Airbnb is using celebrities to promote its new 'Experiences.' But its new 'Services' seem more useful.

17 May 2025 at 02:23

Airbnb will let four contest winners toss a football and have a day with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Airbnb

  • Airbnb has an ambitious new plan to help you book anything.
  • It's using celebrities like Patrick Mahomes to promote its new "Experiences."
  • Those "Experiences" aren't quite like the ones you'll actually book β€” but its new "Services" seem useful.

Airbnb is trying to expand beyond just vacation rentals β€” and it's enlisted some celebrities like Megan Thee Stallion and Patrick Mahomes to get some buzz going for its new offerings.

I have some questions.

It seems like these big names are only here to tout the new "Experiences" β€” things like throwing the pigskin with Mahomes or hanging out with Megan for the day. These all cost nothing, but go to only a handful of contest winners.

The celebs are obviously only going to be around for this promo period. After that, are people going to turn to Airbnb for a day tour of Philadelphia or a cooking class in Honolulu? Maybe. I have my doubts.

Meanwhile, another one of Airbnb's launches β€” called "Services" (think private chefs and photographers) β€” could make a lot of sense for people on vacation who need to find a trusted … well, service person.

There's also something big in all of this for Airbnb: your data. More on that later.

For now, let's look at a couple of these "Airbnb Originals" that are part of its new Experiences.

Spend a Sunday Funday with Patrick Mahomes

Toss a football and have a barbecue lunch with the Chiefs quarterback at a rental cabin near Kansas City.

Only four people (and their plus-one ) will get to do this.

Megan thee stallion in pink with stuffed animals
Megan Thee Stallion, an Airbnb host for a day.

Airbnb

Become an Otaku Hottie with Megan Thee Stallion

This is the most exciting option (to me), but also one of the more confusing ones. Twelve winners will get to make ramen with the rapper, dress up in a costume, and play Xbox with her.

The description of the actual run of events looks like this:

mega thee stallion's aribnb desription
The event includes getting a costume, a video game, and finally meeting Megan for a shot of tequila.

Airbnb

There are a handful of other slightly less famous celebrity experiences that do charge. Brooklyn Peltz Beckham (son of David and Victoria, son-in-law of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz) offers a cooking demonstration for $150 per guest. Pro wrestlers Nikki and Brie Garcia offer a chance to sit in on their podcast taping for $195. Chance the Rapper is having a listening party for $110.

A rep for Airbnb told Business Insider that pricing was up to the celebrity and that another A-list celebrity would soon be doing a paid event, with the fees going to charity.

How to actually win these free experiences

There's a disconnect here between these star-studded promotional things and the new Experiences Airbnb is trying to promote. These are largely contests to win a free prize, not an experience or service you pay for.

It's not unlike a classic radio station contest where the 25th caller gets to meet Paul Stanley, or the 1990s MTV contests where suburban teens can win the chance for a big band to perform in their backyard.

The actual product Airbnb is launching is more practical and down-to-earth: high-quality tours and food experiences from vetted providers.

Even charging a nominal amount makes these celebrity experiences very different. Airbnb subsidizes the event, likely cutting the celebrity a big check to participate. This is a different business model from the regular tour guides, who make their money from customers.

A prompt to fill out your user bio with more information

Well, there is something that makes sense about all of this. I figured it out when I started the process to sign up for Megan Thee Stallion's event on the Airbnb app.

It's about getting your sweet, sweet data.

As part of my application process, I was asked to continue to fill out my user bio β€” adding things like my favorite song from high school, my hobbies, where I went to school, and my pet's name (as a tech journalist, I must warn you here not to put information in a public bio that is commonly used for password reminder questions).

Tens of thousands of people want to hang out with Patrick Mahomes and Megan Thee Stallion. Only a handful will get to, but many will fill out their expanded bios, giving Airbnb lots of information on prospective users.

airbnb bio
My new, expanded bio on Airbnb (I didn't fill out all the questions).

Airbnb

These expanded bios are part of Airbnb's new ambitious rebrand: to be a place not just for vacation rentals, but for people to hire other people for anything. And part of that is building out is convincing customers to make personalized bios, so that the vendors can better see who they're dealing with and vice versa.

I think the new feature called Services actually seems like a great idea β€” things like a hair stylist or makeup artist to come to your home or Airbnb rental for a big event are the kind of things people only want once in a while. And it will certainly open up tons of opportunities for chefs, trainers, stylists, etc., to get themselves in front of more clients.

But the Experiences? I'm not sure what this will all look like in a year after the celebrity buzz has died down.

Bill Belichick's comparison of Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes in new book raises eyebrows

Bill Belichick won six Super Bowls during his storied tenure with the New England Patriots that lasted nearly a quarter-century.Β

Belichick and the Patriots mutually agreed to part ways after the 2023 season. Every NFL team then decided to pass on the six-time champion coach during the 2024 hiring cycle. Earlier this year, Belichick reached an agreement with North Carolina football to become the program's next head coach.

But before his first season in Chapel Hill kicks off in the fall, Belichick reflected on his storied pro football coaching career in his new book, "The Art of Winning." However, a "controversial" comparison of quarterbacks Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes in the book is making headlines.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl winner, is widely regarded as one of the greatest players, if not the all-time best, in league history. Brady retired "for good" after the 2022 season. But Patrick Mahomes has made it to the last three Super Bowls, winning two, and is often referred to as the best active NFL signal-caller.

Belichick argued both players are "really good."

CHIEFS' PATRICK MAHOMES ADMITS SUPER BOWL LOSS TO TOM BRADY, BUCCANEERS STILL STINGS

"I've never engaged in this argument with my good friend Andy Reid, the Kansas City Chiefs' head coach, but I have little doubt he will write his own book one day and claim that he had the greatest QB of all time," the 73-year-old Belichick wrote.

The former NFL coach then acknowledged the "controversial" nature of his opinion, writing, "You know what? Brady and Patrick Mahomes are both really good. Controversial, I know."

Belichick went on to explain that his opinion centered around both quarterbacks' ability to handle success.

He then pointed to Mahomes' postgame media availability after the Kansas City Chiefs narrowly won a game in 2024. Belichick highlighted how Mahomes decided to focus on how he was "missing opportunities" instead of his personal feats. The Tar Heels coach suggested it was a prime example of leadership.

"This kind of comment is music to my ears. Can’t get enough of it," Belichick noted. "It is fundamentally an example of elite leadership. Very similar to when we would win a game with Tom 28-10 and afterward he’d say, β€˜We should have scored forty-five!’"

Belichick praised Brady for being a football player who never hesitated when it came to doing the "hard things." He also wrote about the challenges he encountered coaching Brady.

"Tom was hard to coach because he was so well prepared. I loved coaching Brady β€” he brought out the best in me," Belichick wrote. "He was smart, mentally and physically tough, and the most dependable player I have coached."

Elsewhere, Belichick's much-discussed romance with former cheerleader Jordon Hudson returned to center stage after a recent television interview. Hudson was accused of attempting to assert her control during Belichick's sit-down with "CBS News Sunday Morning." The interview was part of the book's promotional media tour. In the book's acknowledgment, Hudson is referred to as Belichick's "creative muse."

Patrick Mahomes' half-brother receives invite to Chiefs rookie camp

Patrick Mahomes may have a family member join him on the Kansas City Chiefs for Week 1 of the 2025 season if it all works out in their favor during the summer.

Graham Walker, the half-brother of the Super Bowl champion quarterback, received a rookie camp invitation. Walker is listed as a tight end, according to Arrowhead Pride. He transferred from Brown University to Rice before the start of the 2024 season.

With the Owls, Walker had 24 catches for 252 yards. He will get a chance to make the team as a tight end. He joined Jake Briningstool, Jared Casey, Jake Roberts and Tre Watson on the list of undrafted free agents trying to make the team at the position.

The Chiefs already have Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Jared Wiley at the position from their 2024 roster. Wiley was a fourth-round draft pick last year. Former Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan signed with the Chiefs in the offseason.

RAIDERS' ASHTON JEANTY SAYS HE RECEIVED PRANK CALL ON DRAFT NIGHT

Walker is the biological son of Pat Mahomes Sr. His mother is Jessamyn Walker, and his stepfather is Gerry Howatt. The former MLB player spoke about Walker in an interview with FOX 4 KC back in January 2024. He credited Walker’s mom and stepdad for raising the young man right.

Mahomes Sr. also said that Patrick would help in his NFL endeavors.

"He’s supportive, as he always is. Hopefully in this offseason Patrick will get a chance to throw the ball to him, run routes, as Patrick always has his receivers come down," he said at the time.

Patrick Mahomes discusses why he got viral haircut, reflects back on NFL Draft experience

It was time for a change for Patrick Mahomes.

Back in February, after years of sporting his signature curly Mohawk, Mahomes changed it up by shortening the top a ton, going with a simple cropped style with a fade on the side.

Mahomes' barber, DeJuan Bonds, said he thought "frustration" kicked in, but Mahomes said he had actually kept the look more so because of superstition.

"I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions. I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I didn’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it," Mahomes told the media on Thursday.

But, whether they won another Lombardi Trophy or not, it was time to change it up no matter what.

"I told everybody during the season that win or lose, if we win three in a row or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut like that’s enough. I’m very excited. I’ve looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long, like I look way better now with the short hair, so I’ll be keeping this going forward."

ASHTON JEANTY REVEALS ROGER GOODELL GREETING PLAN AT NFL DRAFT, DISCUSSES HOW HIS GAME TRANSLATES TO NFL

Mahomes had his old look eight years ago when he was gearing up for the NFL Draft .The 10th pick of the 2017 NFL Draft reflected back to his draft day, which he admitted he was "nervous" about.

"I get to spend it back at home. I was very β€” we were talking about it actually today when we were throwing with some of the guys. I was very excited to be able to spend it with the people that I grew up with and the people that believed in me. Being able to get drafted by the Chiefs and the team that I wanted to draft me and draft me 10thΒ overall, it was super exciting. You’re so nervous all day long. I remember I played a round of golf in the morning; I don’t remember one shot from that golf round. You’re just trying to keep your mind off of it. Then you live out your dream, and you find out where you’re going to go. I got to do it with those people that were special to me, and (that’s) a moment that I’ll have, and they’ll have for the rest of our lives."

His Chiefs will pick 31st overall after falling short of a Super Bowl threepeat.

Patrick Mahomes' mom has 2-word reaction to White House trip

Randi Mahomes, the mother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, paid a visit to the White House over the weekend and offered a two-word reaction from the trip.

Mahomes posted a photo of herself along with her daughter, Mia, entering the White House on her Instagram Stories. The post has since expired.

"Priceless visit," she captioned the snap.

The matriarch of the Mahomes family was open about her support for President Donald Trump during the 2024 campaign. She endorsed the president on the eve of the election when she showed up to a Chiefs game wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat.

Ahead of Super Bowl LIX, she talked to Fox News Digital about the president’s visit to the game.

"I think for a president of our country, of the United States, I think it’s amazing," she said. "I think whoever the president is, to support the teams, to support America’s best sport.… I think it’s really neat for a president to be able to support it. You know what, let’s do it."

COLORADO'S SHEDEUR SANDERS, TRAVIS HUNTER SHOULD BE FIRST TWO PICKS IN THE NFL DRAFT, DEION SANDERS SAYS

Last month, Trump had praise for Mahomes and her daughter-in-law, Brittany.

"I love those two women – they’re so great," he told OutKick’s Clay Travis. "And they’re so loyal. They’re so great. I met Patrick’s mother at the game, before the game started she came over.

"And Brittany, I’ve seen so much of Brittany, just being so loyal and beautiful. It’s really nice."

Trump met with Randi and Jackson Mahomes before Super Bowl LIX’s kickoff. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Trump said the Chiefs were invited to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIV win, which was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Patrick Mahomes nearly quit football in high school, mother says

Patrick Mahomes' mother Randi Mahomes opened up on a period during her son's high school football career, when he almost quit the sport.Β

During an Instagram story Q&A on Friday, Randi Mahomes was asked how she kept her son motivated through "challenging times."Β

The mother answered by saying she hadn't had to do much, because the quarterback had been "so determined for himself," but she also recounted a time when he almost quit football in high school.Β

CHIEFS DYNASTY TIMELINES: HOW LOVABLE LOSERS BECAME AN EVIL EMPIRE

"There were times when he would get a little down, even a moment in high school when he wanted to quit football. Yes, he did," Randi Mahomes said. "And I encouraged him that sitting out a season of sports and watching the games, it was not going to be fun for him. And so, he stuck to it, fortunately."Β

The intervention by Randi Mahomes may have very well changed the course of sports history, and history at large.Β

Mahomes went on to be a two-year starter at quarterback at Whitehorse High School in East Texas, where he also met his wife, Brittany Mahomes.Β

HOW JOHNNY MANZIEL WAS ALMOST DRAFTED BY THE CHIEFS, CHANGING THE COURSE OF HISTORY AND HIS LIFE

In his senior year, he passed for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns, while also rushing for 948 yards and 15 touchdowns. That performance earned him the MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year.Β

Mahomes went on to be a three-star college recruit, and committed to Texas Tech. There, he won the Sammy Baugh Trophy as a junior after leading the FBS in passing yards and total touchdowns.Β

It was enough to convince the Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid to execute a trade-up in the 2017 NFL Draft to select Mahomes to be the team's starting quarterback.Β

Since then, all Mahomes has done is turn the Chiefs into a dynasty and win two NFL MVP awards.

And it may have never even happen if his mom hadn't stopped him from quitting high school football.Β

Leigh Steinberg says 'Jerry Maguire' humanized sports agents as public perception was 'not the best' in '90s

Before Leigh Steinberg earned widespread fame as the "real Jerry Maguire," he was already a household name among sports enthusiasts, representing professional athletes such as former NFL quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Steve Young, as well as defensive end Bruce Smith, in the 1980s.

In 1996, Hollywood star Tom Cruise portrayed Steinberg in the comedy-drama "Jerry Maguire," alongside RenΓ©e Zellweger and Cuba Gooding Jr., among others, in a story that mapped out the situational representation of top talent in cutthroat industries like the NFL and MLB.

"I think that it humanized sports agents in the minds of the public and showed that there’s caring that goes on," Steinberg told Fox News Digital of the classic film, which garnered over $150 million at the box office.

SPORTS AGENT LEIGH STEINBERG ON WHY THIS RAMS TEAM IS PERFECT FOR LA, SUPER BOWL PREDICTION

"The image of agents was not the best."

Arguably one of the most quotable films of the 1990s, "Jerry Maguire" features iconic lines like "You had me at hello" and "You complete me."

However, there is one four-word phrase that resonates so deeply with fans of both the film and Steinberg that they, without fail, ask him to deliver it in person.

"Every time I walk through an airport, or go out to dinner, even after 26 years, someone runs up to the table or runs up to me in an airport and shouts four words β€” β€˜Show me the money!,’" Steinberg said.

During a one-minute scene, the juxtaposition of Cruise, stressed in a stuffy office setting, and Gooding, shirtless, dancing in his kitchen, shouting "Show me the money!" back and forth, provided viewers with a comedic and pivotal arc in the film.

β€˜JERRY MAGUIRE' STAR'S NURSING CAREER GAVE HER β€˜PERSPECTIVE’ BEFORE TACKLING HOLLYWOOD

"I thought he did an outstanding job," Steinberg said of Cruise’s portrayal. "Cameron Crowe is a gifted director."

While filming, Steinberg told Fox News Digital that he took Gooding to Super Bowl XXX in Phoenix and "made him pretend he was a wide receiver of mine for a whole week."

"He had to pretend I was his agent," Steinberg said.

Today, Steinberg, 76, continues to represent athletes, including Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In addition, Steinberg dedicates himself to the Leigh Steinberg Foundation, which aims to educate and raise information about the risks of athletic concussions and fund prophylactic treatment of concussions and healing the concussed brain.

"I've been very involved with restating what an agent's responsibility is, and I think part of it is to care for a player's health," Steinberg said.

Trump praises Patrick Mahomes' mom, wife after their support in 2024 election

President Donald Trump praised Patrick Mahomes’ mother and wife in an interview over the weekend as the two major figures in the Kansas City Chiefs star’s life supported the Republican’s re-election campaign last year.

Trump spoke to OutKick’s Clay Travis on Saturday and spoke glowingly about Randi Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes.

"I love those two women – they’re so great," he said. "And they’re so loyal. They’re so great. I met Patrick’s mother at the game, before the game started she came over.

"And Brittany, I’ve seen so much of Brittany, just being so loyal and beautiful. It’s really nice."

Randi Mahomes may have been the most outwardly vocal between herself and her daughter-in-law.

During the Chiefs’ Monday night game before Election Day, she showed her support for Trump by wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat in her box at Arrowhead Stadium.

TRUMP SAYS WHITE HOUSE PLANS TO HOST CHIEFS TO CELEBRATE SUPER BOWL LIV WIN

Brittany Mahomes stoked social media controversy when she "liked" a post on Instagram that outlined the "2024 GOP platform." She then "liked" a separate comment that said "TRUMP-VANCE 2024."

She then made cryptic posts as her support for Trump divided some of her fans.

"I mean honestly, To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood," she wrote. "There's no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well."

The other message read, "Contrary to the tone of the world today…. you can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind. Read that again!"

Chiefs tap Gardner Minshew as Patrick Mahomes' new backup for 2025 season: reports

Patrick Mahomes enters the 2025 season with another new backup quarterback.Β

Gardner Minshew, who started nine games for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN.Β

Minshew signed a two-year, $25 million contract last offseason to battle for the starting role with the Raiders.Β

He started the first five games of the season, but after going 2-3, head coach Antonio Pierce went with his backup, Aidan O’Connell, for Week 6 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.Β

Minshew was back starting by Week 8 as the Raiders struggled to put together wins. Then, in Week 12, Minshew broke a collarbone that knocked him out for the rest of the season, leaving the quarterback duties in O’Connell’s hands.Β

XAVIER WORTHY ACCUSER GETS PROTECTIVE ORDER AGAINST CHIEFS STAR AFTER DA DECLINES TO PURSUE ASSAULT CASE

Minshew finished the year 2-8 in the 10 games he played, passing for 2,013 yards with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions.Β

However, Minshew has had better seasons in the past, including a Pro Bowl year with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023. He went 7-6 in his 13 starts in place of rookie Anthony Richardson, throwing for a career-high 3,305 yards with 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.Β

For his six-year career, which began as a Jacksonville Jaguars sixth-round pick in 2019, Minshew is 17-29 over his 46 starts with 11,950 passing yards, 68 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.Β

Last season, Carson Wentz, the former Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback, backed up Mahomes in Kansas City. The year before that, it was Chad Henne.

The Chiefs hope Minshew doesn’t have to step into a starting role since it would mean Mahomes would be dealing with an injury.Β

Travis Kelce indicates he will return to Chiefs in 2025: reports

27 February 2025 at 13:22

Travis Kelce appears ready to play another season.Β

The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end indicated to Pat McAfee via text that he will be coming back for another season.

McAfee read a text he suggested was from the Chiefs tight end on Thursday.Β

"My dog!!! I’m coming back for sure. Going to try and get into the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop," McAfee read during his show. "Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle!!!!"

McAfee then added, in his own words, "I think you can say Travis Kelce is coming back to play football yet again."

NFL Network also reported Kelce would return.

With Kelce seemingly set to return for a 13th season, the Chiefs can now go about the rest of the offseason without having to make any big additions at the tight end position.

CHIEFS GM TALKS TRAVIS KELCE'S FUTURE AMID RETIREMENT RUMORS

Although not the offensive force he had been, Kelce last season was still productive as he had 97 catches for 823 yards with three touchdowns. The yardage and touchdown numbers were the lowest of Kelce’s career in a full season.Β

In the Chiefs' AFC divisional round win over the Houston Texans, Kelce turned back the clock with a vintage performance, catching seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.Β

However, in the Chiefs' defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, Kelce only caught four passes for 39 yards, with all of his receptions coming with the game out of hand.Β

Patrick Mahomes took to social media to react to Kelce’s supposed return.Β

The 10-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion is already considered one of the best tight ends of all time, and will have Canton, Ohio, waiting for him when he decides to retire.Β

Patrick Mahomes' barber reveals story behind star quarterback's viral haircut

25 February 2025 at 16:50

Patrick Mahomes officially has a new look.Β

The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback unveiled his new haircut over the weekend, showing off a stark departure from his previous style. Mahomes no longer has his signature Mohawk, a defining feature of his image during the first eight years of his NFL career.Β

Now, he has a simple cropped style with a fade on the side.Β

Mahomes' barber DeJuan Bonds, who's been cutting the quarterback's hair since his rookie year in 2017, told Fox News Digital about the possible reason why Mahomes chose to go with such a drastic change.Β

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

"I just think with the end of the season, frustration maybe, like, β€˜You know what, I’m done. It's time for a new look, change,' and I think that's pretty much what prompted his sudden urge," Bonds said. "It probably was a little bit [frustration], then there was like, β€˜Hey you know, it’s time for a new look.'"Β

Bonds later added that frustration "possibly" played into the decision for Mahomes to cut his hair in such a different way, but can't say for sure.Β

Bonds also said Mahomes was going for a more "adult" and "mature" look with this new style.Β

It wasn't the first time Mahomes proposed the idea of a drastic change in hairstyle to Bonds. The barber said Mahomes previously brought up the idea of getting a shorter haircut when the quarterback was preparing for the birth of his first child, daughter Sterling, who was born in February 2021.Β

But Bonds talked Mahomes out of it, bringing up the fact that the quarterback had notable success with the Mohawk. At that point, Mahomes had already won a Super Bowl, a league MVP award, and was ascending as one of the league's greatest players.Β

"He had mentioned during that time that entering fatherhood, he needed to go ahead and change up his hairstyle and didn't want to be wearing a Mohawk, but we toyed with cutting it off a couple of times, but we were both superstitious and decided that now wasn't the time," Bonds said.Β

CHIEFS DYNASTY TIMELINES: HOW LOVABLE LOSERS BECAME AN EVIL EMPIRE

"Then after this season was when we kind of said, β€˜Well, let’s just get through the season, and then we'll talk about cutting it off."Β

When Mahomes came to this decision, he initially told Bonds that he wanted to "cut it off."

"A lot of times, when someone says, β€˜Cut it off,’ they don't really know. They're just saying something. Me, as an experienced barber, I know that β€˜cut it off’ really don't mean β€˜cut it off,'" Bonds said.

Had Bonds listened to Mahomes without any pushback, then the barber would have proceeded to give the quarterback a cut so low that it would have even been considered a skin fade.

"It could have been very low, but I know better than that. I know better than to follow anybody's directions when they β€˜just cut it off’ unless I ask them multiple times, and they say yes, and they want it all the way off, and I know he didn't want that," Bonds said.

And Bonds believes that if he did give Mahomes the full "cut it off" treatment, it would have had the reverse effect that Mahomes was looking for in terms of trying to look older and more mature.Β

"I would advise him not to do that unless he wanted to turn back to a 17-year-old Mahomes," Bonds said, referring to Mahomes' hairstyle in high school when it was essentially just a skin fade. "Even with the haircut that he got right now, it made him look a lot younger, but if I did something like that to him, he would even look younger, and I don't think he wants to look younger like that."Β

So instead, Bonds proceeded with the haircut that he had in mind for Mahomes. As it was going, the televisions at Purple Lable Luxury Barbershop in Overland Park, Kansas, had NBA games on, as they talked about basketball.Β

Bonds recalled Mahomes once tweeting about the Luka Doncic trade during a haircut before the Super Bowl while ESPN's "SportsCenter" played on TV, and then seeing the show feature Mahomes' tweet being discussed just minutes later during the same haircut.Β

And then, after the haircut was over, and Mahomes' new look was cemented, the quarterback smiled.Β

"He basically smiled and said, β€˜Yeah, I like that,'" Bonds said.Β

Bonds is now set to travel to give Mahomes a follow-up cut on Thursday to maintain the look.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes on a 'revenge tour' after losing Super Bowl LIX, teammate says

21 February 2025 at 04:24

The Kansas City Chiefs were unable to make NFL history earlier this month, as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, 40-22.Β

It was a game where quarterback Patrick Mahomes was uncharacteristically off, and a lot of that had to do with the Eagles constantly creating pressure in the pocket. Still, throwing multiple interceptions and missing some open players was very much unlike Mahomes – pressure in the pocket or not.Β

So, as Mahomes and the Chiefs head into the 2025 offseason, one teammate knows that a "revenge tour" is brewing for the two-time MVP signal caller.Β

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Defensive end Charles Omenihu, who has a ring thanks to his performance in Super Bowl LVIII, made an appearance on "Up & Adams," where he responded to host Kay Adams’ question about where Mahomes will be in the next 10 months.Β

"On a revenge tour," Omenihu responded. "Just extreme focus, taking even more control of the organization. We’re going to get my boy Rashee [Rice] back, so that’s going to be great with how [Xavier Worthy] has been playing. Hopefully, we’ll be able to figure out the rest of the pieces."

TRAVIS KELCE'S PODCAST SKIPS NEW EPISODE RELEASE AMID CHIEFS STAR'S RETIREMENT RUMORS

Rashee Rice, who suffered a season-ending injury early in the 2024 season, could be facing suspension due to eight felony charges he faces from a six-car crash in Dallas that he partly caused. The NFL is waiting for the legal process to play out.Β

However, Mahomes and the Chiefs have to love what they saw from rookie first-rounder Xavier Worthy, who got better by the week and made a major impact on the way to another Super Bowl appearance.Β

Kansas City will continue to build around Mahomes, but Omenihu knows his teammate is likely still kicking himself after what transpired at the Caesars Superdome.

"He probably felt like he didn’t have his best performance, and him being who he is and being the best quarterback in the league, he wants to come back and have one of those big seasons," Omenihu said.

"So, I think it’ll be somebody that’s on a mission for sure."

Mahomes finished the Super Bowl with 257 yards passing with three touchdowns and two interceptions, though most of those yards came in the fourth quarter during a comeback attempt that was too little, too late.Β

For the 2024 regular season, Mahomes did not have his usual production, failing to reach 4,000 yards passing for the first time since becoming the full-time starter in Kansas City. Still, he passed for 3,928 yards and 26 touchdowns with 11 interceptions, and went 15-1 in those starts.Β

Patrick Mahomes lost like a champion which can be harder to do than win like one

12 February 2025 at 07:05

The lasting memory Patrick Mahomes left of the 2024 NFL season is that he ultimately lost.Β

He failed.

That, rather than continue his chase of Tom Brady's record seven-ring Super Bowl domination and set an unprecedented mark by winning three consecutive championships, Mahomes fell short. And not just fell short because his team betrayed him, but because he played poorly and wasn't what anyone, including himself, expected.

So, yes, bitter disappointment.

And do you know how, amid all that defeat and failure and disillusion, Mahomes handled the moment?

Like a champion.

He took his beating, as did all the Kansas City Chiefs in that 40-22 final that wasn't really as close as the score, and handled it like a grown man afterward. Like a professional.

Like a winner.

Mahomes sought out opposing quarterback Jalen Hurts, shook his hand and offered congratulations. He also shook hands with a couple of other victorious Philadelphia players, including offensive tackle Lane Johnson, and then he ran off the field.

No big deal?

Tom Brady didn't shake Nick Foles' hand after the Eagles beat the Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Kyle Shanahan didn't shake Andy Reid's hand after the Super Bowl a year ago. It's the classy thing to do, but sometimes the pain and frustration of the moment wipe away the veneer of good sportsmanship.

Because losing these games hurts. A lot. And Mahomes has now lost two of them, including one to Brady in Super Bowl LV.

"Um, I mean, both sucked," Mahomes said. "There’s no way around it. Anytime you lose a Super Bowl, it’s the worst feeling in the world. They’ll stick with you the rest of your career.Β

"I mean, these will be the two losses that will motivate me to be even better for the rest of my career, because you only get so few of these, and you have to capitalize on these, and they hurt probably more than the wins feel good."

Let that marinate for a moment.

The losses elicit a greater lasting feeling than the victories. And yet, amid that kind of personal emotional cataclysm, Mahomes came to the podium to face reporters and answered about 14 questions or so with patience and class.

He talked about Jalen Hurts winning it all.

He talked about Travis Kelce possibly retiring.

And he addressed his rough outing by actually taking responsibility for the loss.

"I threw two interceptions," Mahomes said. "I threw a pick-six, and I threw a pick that they returned to the 5-yard line, and they scored immediately after, so when you give a team 14 points, especially a really good football team, a Super Bowl football team, then not a lot of good things happen.Β

"And so, that’s why I take ownership in this loss more than probably any loss in my entire career, because I put us in a bad spot, and even though we put up some stats at the end of the game, those stats didn’t really matter, because I’d already kind of lost the momentum for this entire team."

At the beginning of Super Bowl week, Mahomes was asked multiple times about his faith. And he boldly proclaimed his faith in Jesus Christ. He talked openly about God.

He said he wants to use Jesus as an example of how to live his life.

And, predictably, the haters said that's easy to do when your team wins 15 of 17 regular-season games and two playoff games after that. It's easy to be close to God when the breeze of consecutive Super Bowl wins is at one's back.

But what about the rough times?

Where was the quarterback's God Sunday evening while he was getting sacked six times? And where did this mess of a game leave Mahomes and his professed faith?

The answer to both questions is exactly where it all was before the game.

God apparently allowed the Chiefs to take one on the chin. They say setbacks are a set-up for a great comeback. I believe that's in the Gospels somewhere because Jesus suffered unspeakable punishment on the cross on Friday and died, but didn't stay that way very long.

Sunday's grand victory surely came.

Mahomes, meanwhile, thanked God after the Kansas City loss. He thanked God "for every opportunity he has given me."

That doesn't change the fact the Eagles were better. It doesn't change the fact Mahomes went home with an L.

But neither did that loss change the fact Mahomes took the setback like a champion.

Patrick Mahomes' former teammate pushes back on 'tarnished' legacy narrative around Chiefs star

12 February 2025 at 04:47

Patrick Mahomes’ loss in Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles dropped him to 3-2 in Super Bowls since he took the reins as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.

On Sunday, Mahomes had one of the worst games he has ever had. The Eagles’ defense overpowered the Chiefs’ offensive line and rattled Mahomes early and often. He was sacked six times, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. His QB rating was 11.4 for the game.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The game was on par with his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. He was sacked three times and threw two interceptions, finishing with a QB rating of 42.2.

NFL pundits began to question Mahomes’ legacy in the immediate aftermath of the game. While there were comparisons to Tom Brady going into the game in which some believed Mahomes would be in his stratosphere with a third consecutive title, the loss – for some – diminished his standing so badly that the gap between both is almost insurmountable.

Former Chiefs offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz had none of that. He defended Mahomes in social media posts on Tuesday.

"Someone is going to have to explain to me how a 29 year old’s legacy is tarnished because after the best 7 year start to a career and getting closer than anyone in history to winning 3 straight Super Bowls, one bad game from basically the entire team diminishes that legacy??" he wrote on X.

"Tiger missed cuts in majors even at the height of his powers. Brady had a 16-0 team and lost to a 10-6 team. Missed the playoffs his 2nd year starting. Lost multiple playoff games to teams who threw for less than 100 yards but that doesn’t matter b/c it wasn’t in the Super Bowl?

NFL FANS INTERVENE AFTER RESTAURANT OWNED BY EAGLES' CJ GARDNER-JOHNSON'S MOM HIT BY UNWARRANTED BAD REVIEWS

"The dynamic has gotten very weird where you have to not only win #Ringz but you also get docked this bad for a Super Bowl loss when you’re doing unprecedented things before the age of 30. Brady is the most accomplished QB ever, it’s going to take years to compare their rΓ©sumΓ©s."

As Brady lost to the New York Giants in 2007, Schwartz pointed out, pundits did not jump on his legacy and question his resume. He lamented the "reactionary" state of the media.

"It feels like we’re trying to blend MJ and Brady and hold Pat to that standard. No one is repeating 6-0," he wrote. "Brady didn’t do it. No one else will, especially in football. Football is too interconnected, 1 game is too small. Jordan had 7 games to make sure his team won. Too different."

Schwartz asked talking heads to "pump the brakes" on comparison and legacy talk.

Mahomes has plenty of time to catch Brady – if that is the goal. Brady was 32 years old when he reached his fifth Super Bowl and fell to 3-2 when his Patriots lost to the Giants for a second time.

Brady went 10 years without winning another one. The Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX thanks to an interception from Malcolm Butler at the very end of the game.

Mahomes vowed to recover and bring the Chiefs back to glory.

"I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it," he wrote on X. "Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me.

"We will be back."

Chiefs player speaks out after Patrick Mahomes skipped him while greeting teammates during Super Bowl loss

11 February 2025 at 11:58

Toward the end of the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl loss Sunday, Patrick Mahomes greeted some of his fellow offensive players, giving high-fives and sharing hugs.

But one player β€” running back Samaje Perine β€” was noticeably left out despite standing up as Mahomes approached him.

Mahomes greeted JuJu Smith-Schuster and Hollywood Brown before embracing Isiah Pacheco. Next on the bench was Perine, who stood up, but Mahomes instead approached Travis Kelce, and the two shared a long embrace.

People noticed the apparent snub, and in an Instagram post highlighting video of what happened, many called out Mahomes for a lack of leadership.

However, according to the New York Post, Perine commented on the post and said people were making something out of nothing.

"Lol I actually stood up to untie my pants string, no one blamed anybody," Perine commented. "It’s not that deep."

Perine, third on the running back depth chart behind Kareem Hunt and Pacheco, caught a pass from Mahomes in the AFC championship against the Buffalo Bills, which sealed their victory and sent them to their third straight Super Bowl.Β

PATRICK MAHOMES TAKES BLAME FOR SUPER BOWL LIX ROUT, PROMISES CHIEFS 'WILL BE BACK'

He was used mainly in the pass game out of the backfield, catching 28 passes for 322 yards and one touchdown for the Chiefs during the regular season. He also had 92 rushing yards on 20 carries with a score.Β

In the 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Perine had just one carry for eight yards.

The loss halted the Chiefs' quest for a three-peat, which would have been the first in Super Bowl history.

It's the Eagles' second Lombardi Trophy after winning the 2018 Super Bowl.

Sunday's game was a rematch of the Super Bowl two years ago, which the Chiefs won, 38-35.Β

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes leaves out teammate while shaking hands during Super Bowl LIX loss

10 February 2025 at 14:38

Vibes weren’t high on the Kansas City Chiefs’ sideline during Super Bowl LIX as they were uncharacteristically blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles.Β

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, though, was spotted walking down the bench dapping up his teammates, trying to keep spirits high at a time when they were at their lowest all season.Β

However, Mahomes is being scrutinized for seemingly forgetting to shake hands with one of his running backs, Samaje Perine, as he went down the line.Β

Perine had stood up, acting like he was going to shake hands with his quarterback, but Mahomes skipped him to talk to tight end Travis Kelce instead.Β

The video of Mahomes went viral after the 40-22 loss, with many wondering why he would pass up on Perine after going through the rest of his teammates.Β

Perine is a veteran in the NFL, playing his first year with the Chiefs in 2024 after spending time with the Washington Commanders, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos in prior seasons.Β

Perine was used mainly in the pass game out of the backfield, hauling in 28 receptions for 322 yards and one touchdown for the Chiefs during the regular season. He had 92 rushing yards on 20 carries with a score as well.Β

Perine caught a pass from Mahomes in the AFC Championship against the Buffalo Bills, which sealed their victory and put them into their third straight Super Bowl.Β

While Mahomes never commented on what happened with forgetting Perine on the sideline after the game, he did post about the loss after the worst start of his career.Β

"Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom. I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me. We will be back," he wrote on X.

8 fashion moments you need to see from the 2025 Super Bowl

  • There was a ton of fashion at Super Bowl LIX, from athlete outfits to celebrity ensembles.
  • Taylor Swift, for example, wore a necklace that nodded to Travis Kelce.
  • DeAndre Hopkins wore his late father's mink coat before the game.

There was a lot more to Super Bowl LIX than football.

Kendrick Lamar performed a statement-making halftime show, huge brands battled for attention during commercials, and Tubi made a bigger name for itself by streaming the event.

There was also a lot of standout fashion, from athletes to celebrity attendees.

If you were more focused on the game, here are some of the best style details you might have missed.

Tom Brady walked around with a $740,000 watch on his wrist.

Brady made his debut as a Super Bowl commentator on Sunday, and he did so in style.

To complement his gray suit and black tie, the former football player accessorized with a Caviar Tourbillon timepiece from Jacob & Co.

The watch featured 48.92 carats of yellow sapphires and 1.32 carats of white diamonds arranged in a cluster meant to resemble caviar. It also had an alligator leather strap.

Compared to other outfits Swift has worn to Chiefs games this season, her Super Bowl ensemble seemed overly simple.

However, it was actually expensive and sentimental.

She wore a $3,253 Saint Laurent blazer, a $1,300 AlaΓ―a bodysuit, crystal-covered shorts, $1,120 Paris Texas boots, a $990 Givenchy purse, and ruby rings from Effy Jewelry that cost $12,495 and $5,195.

Swift also donned a ruby bracelet from the same brand, a $4,350 Logan Hollowell hand chain, a $32,200 Panthère watch from Cartier, and the same Lorraine Schwartz T-charm chain she first wore at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The casual look seemingly called back to the first outfit Swift ever wore to a Chiefs game: a white DΓ΄en tank top and a black pair of Ksubi shorts.

The flashy chain Kendrick Lamar wore during his performance might have had a few subtle meanings.

When the rapper got onstage, you couldn't miss his diamond necklaces. The oversize pieces were layered and embellished with a massive "a" initial charm.

The latter piece could have referenced Lamar's ongoing feud with Drake in two ways.

Some fans say it might have stood for Aubrey, Drake's legal first name. Others pointed out that Lamar's "a" charm was lowercase and potentially meant to reference his famous "tryna strike a chord and it's probably a minor" lyric from "Not Like Us."

It's also possible that the charm more simply represented Lamar's creative company, pgLang, which uses the same style "a" in its logos.

His pregame ensemble included a checked blazer and matching trousers in a teal shade that looked a lot like "midnight green," one of the Eagles' colors.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback also wore a blue tie, a white button-up shirt, and Oakley glasses.

Travis Kelce wore a few accessories, including a unique pin.

On Instagram, Kelce's stylist, Danielle Vanessa Salzedo, said the metallic flower pinned to his lapel was a real rose dipped in gold.

Amiri designed the pin, his '70s-style suit, and his sunglasses.

His suit, on the other hand, was originally designed for women.

The ensemble debuted at Paris Fashion Week in January, featuring the same orange-tinted blazer, trousers, and sparkling undershirt Kelce wore.

The brand's designer, Mike Amiri, told GQ that Kelce was the perfect person to wear the outfit, regardless of who it was originally designed for.

"He's just such a great person to dress because he can wear clothes, clothes don't wear him. He can make anything kind of work," he told the publication.

DeAndre Hopkins donned a fur coat that honored his family.

As ESPN reported, the mink coat belonged to Hopkins' father, who died in 1992 around the time his son was born.

The wide receiver previously told the network that he'd wear it on his wedding day or at the Super Bowl, depending on which happened first.

"My dad was a leader of the family, leader of our community," Hopkins told ESPN. "So it means a lot just being able to have a little bit of him with me."

First, there was his Jacob and Co. watch, which retails for $348,000 and is embedded with gems resembling planets.

Patrick Mahomes takes blame for Super Bowl LIX rout, promises Chiefs 'will be back'

10 February 2025 at 05:30

Patrick Mahomes chose a poor time to play perhaps the worst game of his career.

Mahomes had just 33 passing yards in the first half of Super Bowl LIX, the lowest of his career. Despite three touchdowns in the second half, it was too little too late, and his Kansas City Chiefs were blown out, 40-22, by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs were going for their third consecutive Super Bowl title, a run that began two years ago against the same Eagles. However, the Birds' defense had other plans.

The Eagles were able to sack Mahomes six times, pick him off twice (including a pick-six) and throw him completely off of his game.

Green jerseys were in Mahomes' face all night. Even more impressive is that the Eagles did not blitz once during the entire game.

While he did not necessarily get help from his offensive line or weapons, Mahomes took the blame for the tough loss.

EAGLES' NICK SIRIANNI HAS MESSAGE FOR KELLEN MOORE AS COACH IS RUMORED TO TAKE THE SAINTS' JOB

"Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom. I let y’all down today," he posted on X after the game. "I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me."

However, he added that the Chiefs dynasty is not done just yet.

"We will be back."

Mahomes could have become the first person to win four Super Bowls before turning 30 in NFL history, but that is no more - he will turn 30 on Sept. 17 later this year.

Kansas City was in their fifth Super Bowl in the last six seasons; they are 3-2 in those games, with both losses being rather ugly.

Trump meets Patrick Mahomes' family in Super Bowl LIX suite amid prior support

10 February 2025 at 05:07

Members of the Mahomes family were vocal about their support for President Donald Trump.

Amid becoming the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, he paid his fans a visit. The Mahomes family, sitting in a suite, was spotted taking a photo with the president while watching Patrick Mahomes on the field in his fifth Super Bowl contest.

Mahomes' mother, Randi, wore a red "Make America Great Again" hat with a Chiefs sweatshirt when K.C. hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the eve of the election.

"I think for a president of our country, of the United States, I think it’s amazing," she told Fox News Digital in New Orleans this week. "I think whoever the president is, to support the teams, to support America’s best sport. … I think it’s really neat for a president to be able to support it. You know what, let’s do it."

In his Super Bowl interview with Bret Baier, Trump also praised Patrick's wife, Brittney, who first indicated her support for Trump on Aug. 13, when she liked Trump's Instagram post that outlined the "2024 GOP platform."

"She’s a Trump fan. She’s a MAGA fan, so I happened to love her, but she’s a great person," Trump said in the interview.

TRUMP GREETS CHIEFS STAR ON FIELD AT SUPER BOWL LIX AFTER PICKING THEM TO WIN LOMBARDI TROPHY

Trump was also spotted shaking hands with Chiefs star pass rusher Chris Jones on the field ahead of the game.

However, there was no Trump magic to rub off on Kansas City, as they suffered a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs, one of the best offenses in the NFL this season, and a team that has obvious history in this game over the past two years, had just 34 total yards of offense in the first half as the Eagles defense was thriving against the offensive line.Β

Patrick Mahomes was never comfortable, and it showed as they punted their first three possessions. Mahomes threw two picks, one of which was taken to the house by rookie Cooper DeJean. The Eagles defense sacked Mahomes six times.

Eagles win Super Bowl LIX, denying Chiefs history in dominant fashion

9 February 2025 at 19:23

The Philadelphia Eagles halted NFL history in its tracks, as they dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, to win Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday night.Β

The Chiefs were looking to be the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, but the Eagles, a team who lost to the Chiefs two seasons ago in the "Big Game," made sure to enact revenge.Β

Philadelphia now has its second Lombardi Trophy for the organization, having defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2018.Β

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Those that believed the Eagles would win this game didn’t see it coming in this fashion, as they dominated the Chiefs in all three phases from the beginning of this game right until the end.Β

The Chiefs, one of the best offenses in the NFL this season, and a team that has obvious history in this game over the past two years, had just 34 total yards of offense in the first half as the Eagles defense was thriving against the offensive line.Β

Mahomes was never comfortable, and it showed as they punted their first three possessions. Meanwhile, despite punting on the first possession, the Eagles were able to get in the end zone the second go-around.Β

TRUMP RECEIVES RAUCOUS RECEPTION AS HE SALUTES DURING SUPER BOWL LIX NATIONAL ANTHEM

After moving downfield, Jalen Hurts found Jahan Dotson for a 28-yard strike, which was initially believed to be the first touchdown of the game. But, after review, Dotson was spotted down at the one-yard line.Β

But you know what happens there.Β

Hurts was tush-pushed into the end zone to put the Eagles up 7-0, and they didn’t look back after that.Β

It was clear throughout both halves how uncomfortable Mahomes was, as the Eagles’ pass rush continued to get home no matter how many players were sent by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Mahomes was sacked at most five times in a single game in 2024, and the Eagles tallied six on the night, showcasing their domination. But it wasn’t just the defensive line – the secondary was putting in work, too.Β

It came in the first half when rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, who celebrated his 22nd birthday, picked off Mahomes on a scrambling throw and ran it all the way back for a 38-yard pick-six, which put the Eagles up 17-0.Β

Mahomes would throw yet another interception on the first play of a drive already deep in their own territory late in the second quarter. Two plays later, Hurts found A.J. Brown, which he did in Super Bowl LVII as well, for a touchdown that almost felt like a dagger at 24-0.Β

When the second half kicked off, the Chiefs were already in desperation mode, and five plays into the first drive, they were forced to punt. And after the Eagles kicked a field goal, Mahomes saw his fourth-and-short pass knocked down as he turned it back over to the Eagles.Β

Then, the true dagger was seen in this game, as DeVonta Smith, who grew up an hour from New Orleans in Amite City, Louisiana, broke out a 46-yard touchdown catch on a perfectly thrown ball from Hurts.

At 34-0, the deficit was insurmountable for Mahomes and the Chiefs, even if rookie Xavier Worthy found the end zone on a 24-yard pass from Mahomes. Β

But ultimately, the Chiefs were never close to a comeback as the Eagles kept making plays, and never let the classic "Mahomes Magic" get put to work.Β

History wasn't made in New Orleans on Sunday, but the Eagles will forever be the team that halted what seemed to be the unstoppable Chiefs.Β

The Eagles are not just flying -- they're soaring as Super Bowl champions yet again.Β
