I tried the viral sleep mask that attaches to your plane seat on a 10-hour flight to Germany. It had its pros, but I won't pack it again.

  • I tried a viral plane pillow with a Velcro eye mask that straps to your airplane seat.
  • The product had its pros. It was compact, had a dual function, and was easy to set up.
  • However, the product put too much pressure on my forehead and face, so I won't pack it again.

My hunt for the best neck pillow continues.

On my last long-haul flight, I packed an inflatable pillow I'd seen all over TikTok. I had my complaints: While I did get some sleep, the pillow was far too bulky for small economy seats.

I wanted a smaller option for my next trip, so I purchased the $21 Sarisun travel pillow, yet another TikTok-viral product. It attaches to your seat and holds your head back with a Velcro eye mask.

After trying the travel pillow on a 10-hour flight from Denver to Munich, I likely won't pack it in my carry-on again.

I boarded the 10-hour flight in hopes of deep sleep

Reading the product's description online, I learned that while it's technically not a pillow, the goal is to help you sleep. The eye mask prevents your head from bobbing as you fall asleep upright and helps avoid neck discomfort.

After settling into my economy Lufthansa seat, I unrolled the product, which came in two pieces. The first was a pad with two straps that wrap around the headrest of an airplane seat. The second was an eye mask with Velcro patches at each end.

The straps are adjustable, so it seemed like it would fit most planes — as long as your seat has a bendable headrest. If there's no headrest, like some seats on airlines like Frontier, then you're out of luck.

Thankfully, my Lufthansa seat had the correct headrest, and I easily looped the pad around the top of the seat and secured it tight. Then, I placed the eye mask around my face and fastened the ends to the other piece.

I questioned if the Velcro would be strong enough to hold the weight of my head, but that wasn't an issue. After I was all set up, I closed my eyes and attempted to sleep — emphasis on attempted.

The eye mask blocked out the light from surrounding plane screens, which I loved. Plus, the size could adjust enough to let me wear over-the-ear headphones or my AirPods. Without music, I found that the pillow buffered nearby plane noises.

The downside was that when I leaned my head forward, I felt pressure along the edges of the mask. This dull pressure was fine for about an hour, but after that, it became increasingly uncomfortable.

After trying to use the pillow for a couple of hours, I ripped it off, balled up my jacket, leaned against the plane wall, and attempted to get some actual sleep.

I had a love-hate relationship with the plane pillow

The pillow had its pros. It was compact, and I liked that I could leave it attached to my seat even when I wasn't sleeping. It worked as an eye mask and pillow, creating one less thing to pack in my carry-on.

Still, even with its pros, I'm not sure I'd use the product again.

The pressure from the eye mask was too much for me, and it only allowed one sleeping position. As someone who tosses and turns, attempts to curl up in balls on plane seats, and constantly searches for comfortable positions, I didn't love the fixed position this product kept me in.

However, plenty of people disagree. Across reviews on Amazon, travelers said that if you're a plane sleeper who predominantly sits up straight and struggles with head bobbing throughout a flight, this pillow could be a game changer.

"Best airplane sleep product yet!" one person wrote.

"The mask was cool and comfortable, and I cannot believe I got a solid 4-5 hours of sleep in economy," another person added.

That wasn't the case for me, which means I'll be looking for better neck pillows for future long-haul economy flights.

6 ways rich Gen Zers are splashing out and redefining luxury for themselves

2 February 2025 at 03:03

  • The richest Gen Zers are confident about being able to build up wealth.
  • When it comes to flexing, young people are splashing on vacations and vintage luxury goods.
  • At home, a well-stocked pantry is a top priority as they're hosting more supper clubs.

Gen Z may be "Generation Stay at Home," but some of them are rich — and more confident than other generations in their ability to build up wealth.

And, like generations before them, those who can afford it are doing luxury in their own way.

While their millennial elders are obsessed with kitting out laundry rooms, spoiling pets, and getting Botox, affluent Gen Zers are inclined to spend money on luxury brands and experiences that align with their values.

Here are six ways they're flexing their spending power.

Rich Gen Zers are booking lavish trips to flaunt on social media.

Gen Zers are either dictating their wealthy parents' travel itineraries or splurging on lavish trips for themselves.

Those who are still traveling with mom and dad are calling the shots on vacation, suggesting activities and destinations based on what's trending on social media.

Julia Carter, the founder of the luxury travel agency Craft Travel, previously told BI that Gen Zers care the most about accommodation.

"You can go to London or Paris," Carter said, "But unless you get these money shots, as they say, how do you show that you really did it in style? The hotel is the proof."

Gen Zers also have a penchant for luxury all-inclusive trips, BI previously reported.

"With social media being so big and being an integral part of their lives, many people are motivated by sharing highly curated content and ultra-luxury resorts," said Malley Goodwin, a luxury travel advisor at Embark Beyond.

They're splashing on brands and experiences that align with their values.

Rich Gen Zers are less inclined to be materialistic with their spending.

When it comes to travel, a press representative of Black Tomato, a UK-founded luxury tour operator offering curated private trips to places such as Mustique and Seychelles, said the company is finding that younger clients want "authentic, hands-on travel experiences" focusing on "sustainability, wellness, and cultural immersion."

Gen Z's value-led spending trend is picking up globally and across other spending categories, such as retail. In China, home to a large population of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, younger generations are eschewing flashy logo-heavy brands to splurge on items and experiences representing their values for bettering the environment and themselves.

Jien Goh, a trend forecaster at WGSN, previously told BI: "At the heart of this trend lies a desire for mindful, slower-paced living and a newly emerging mindset that sees wellness and longevity as the ultimate marker of luxury."

When they buy luxury clothes and accessories, they're often opting for secondhand.

Gen Z prefers the flashiest items in their wardrobe to be pre-loved.

Claudia D'Arpizio, senior partner and global head of Fashion and Luxury at Bain, told BI that, instead of purchasing designer goods new, most Gen Zers are sourcing them secondhand via resale platforms like The Real Real.

Their sustainable values are likely part of the equation. However, D'Arpizio said these platforms are a hit with Gen Zers because they're using them to buy vintage finds and sell them to generate extra cash.

"There is an element of gamification and entertainment that is also interesting for this generation," she said.

At home, Zoomers are prioritizing the pantry.

American Gen Zers are outpacing previous generations when it comes to home ownership, per a 2023 Redfin study that found 30% of 25-year-olds owned their home in 2022, compared to 28% of millennials and 27% of Gen X at that age.

At home, the pantry and what it's stocked with have become markers of social status. A McKinsey survey published in December found that groceries, tied with beauty and personal care, are one of the top three categories Gen Z consumers plan to treat themselves to, behind restaurants and apparel.

Gen Zers are stocking up on expensive snacks, beverages, and condiments, and some are flaunting their pricey grocery store hauls from hot spots like Erewhon, a celebrity favorite in Los Angeles, on social media.

It comes as Elizabeth Tan, a senior culture strategist for WGSN Insight, said food and dining have become a way for younger consumers to express "their values and cultural identity."

A spritz of the right perfume has become a tell-tale sign of wealth and status among Gen Z.

While the luxury goods industry has suffered this past year, particularly from dwindling demand in China, Bain's D'Arpizio said fragrance was one of the few resilient categories.

Fragrances weathered the luxury downturn partly because the category is popular with younger generations, who have continued indulging themselves in smaller, more affordable luxuries while holding back on bigger purchases like handbags or coats.

Perfumes and colognes have also evolved into a medium for Gen Z to carve out their personal brand, as BI previously reported.

The generation is using certain fragrances to identify themselves with popular aesthetics. For example, Upton Clark reports that a Gen Zer hoping to exude a "Clean Girl" vibe might opt for Maison Margiela's Replica Bubble Bath, while one aspiring to give off an air of "Quiet Luxury" might don Maison Francis Kurkdjian's Baccarat Rouge 540.

They're splurging on skincare and treatments to stay young.

The oldest Gen Zers aren't yet 30. While that might be relatively young, they're just as concerned (if not more so) about aging.

In an article on the rise of "Collagen banking," a noninvasive skincare treatment that seeks to boost collagen production, Vogue Business reported that market research firm Circana found 70% of Gen Zers use antiaging serums daily.

As BI previously reported, Gen Z's skincare obsession might be linked to how they are the first generation to grow up with a wide array of social-media platforms and filters, fueling the rise of "prejuvenation" — a trend of mixing skincare with cosmetic treatments to stave off the effects of aging.

The younger generations' desire to maintain their youthful appearances is also changing the cosmetics industry, as Circana reports half of US consumers now look for makeup products that double as skincare, aligning with the attitude of over 60% of Gen Z and millennials.

How to get jobs and internships at top hedge funds like Citadel, D.E. Shaw, and Point72

Four D. E. Shaw interns gathered around a computer.
D.E. Shaw interns.

D. E. Shaw

  • The biggest hedge funds are battling it out to attract and retain top talent and outperform peers.
  • Business Insider has talked to elite hedge funds to get a peek into their recruiting processes.
  • From internships to high-paying tech jobs, here's what we know about their hiring practices.

The war for hedge fund talent cuts across all levels and positions, with firms like Citadel, Point72, and Millennium constantly competing to gain an edge in a cutthroat industry.

These behemoth funds are now putting serious time and resources into recruiting for internship and training programs to create a steady employee pipeline. Steve Cohen's Point72 and Ken Griffin's Citadel recently opened applications for their 2026 summer internships to undergrad students.

Eye-popping pay, challenging work environments, and the promise of working with some of the best investors in the industry can make them an attractive employment option.

Internships at quant fund D.E. Shaw, for example, can pay up to $22,000. Salaries for entry-level analysts and software engineers are often in the six-figure range. Portfolio managers with winning strategies can take home millions.

Business Insider has talked to some of the biggest hedge-fund managers about how they attract talent, as well as their advice to prospective hires.

Here's everything we know about getting a job at a large hedge fund.

Internships

Years ago, the opaque and secretive world of hedge funds might not have been an obvious career choice for most college graduates. However, these investing behemoths are now investing in getting young, diverse wunderkinder, especially mathletes, familiar with their brands as soon as high school.

Internships are another talent pipeline for some of the biggest multi-strategy hedge funds, which employ armies of traders and engineers. Programs can be uber-competitive and harder to get into than many top Ivy League schools.

Citadel

Citadel's summer internship program, for example, has become increasingly competitive. Last year, the hedge fund accepted around 300 interns to spend 11 weeks at Griffin's hedge fund or his market maker, working with stock-pickers, quants, engineers, and more. The firm told BI that there were more than 85,000 applicants for the programs, with an acceptance rate of roughly 0.5%.

We also spoke to Point72 and D.E. Shaw about what they looked for in interns and how to stand out for a potential job offer down the line.

Analyst and investment training programs

In the past, hedge funds acquired investment talent from investment banks. Increasingly, however, the industry's top players are recruiting college students through intensive training programs that can lead to jobs straight out of college.

Creating a pipeline of portfolio managers has been an increasingly popular strategy for hedge funds locked in an increasingly expensive battle for top talent.

Tech jobs and training programs

Hedge funds have long been competing with the finance industry and top tech companies for top technologists. Engineers and algorithm developers are key to helping researchers, data scientists, and traders develop cutting-edge investment strategies and platforms. Quant shop D.E. Shaw also has a unique approach to finding talent.

Gaza deal's future hangs on Trump-Netanyahu meeting

2 February 2025 at 03:00

The future of the Gaza hostage-release and ceasefire deal is hanging on the outcome of a meeting between President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that is set to take place on Tuesday at the White House, three Israeli officials told Axios.

Why it matters: Netanyahu reluctantly agreed to move forward with the first phase of the deal between Israel and Hamas, and the families of the hostages and Israeli negotiators are concerned he won't follow through to the second phase as he fights for his political survival.

  • Israeli officials told Axios Netanyahu is waiting to see where Trump stands on the second phase of the deal, which is supposed to lead to a permanent ceasefire and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, before he makes any decisions.
  • Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas on the second phase are supposed to begin on Monday but there is already a major gap: Hamas wants to end the war and stay in power in Gaza and Israel opposes ending the war as long as Hamas is still in power in Gaza.
  • Netanyahu hopes he will be able to influence Trump's thinking and convince him to endorse his plans for the war in Gaza, the officials said.
  • One Israeli official said if Netanyahu decides not to move toward the second phase of the deal, the implication could be at least another year of war in Gaza in an attempt to topple Hamas.

Driving the news: Israeli officials say the negotiations won't start on Monday as outlined in the deal because Netanyahu decided not to send the negotiations team to Doha before he meets with Trump on Tuesday.

  • Netanyahu is expected to arrive in Washington on Sunday evening.

The Israeli Prime Minister's office said in a statement on Saturday that Netanyahu spoke on the phone with White House envoy Steve Witkoff on Saturday.

  • "They agreed that the negotiations on the second stage of the hostages deal will begin at their meeting in Washington this Monday, the 16th day of the agreement, within the framework of which they will discuss the Israeli positions," the prime minister's office said.
  • The office said that later in the week Witkoff will speak with the Prime Minister of Qatar and the director of Egyptian intelligence who are mediators in the negotiations.
  • "He will then discuss with the Prime Minister steps to advance the negotiations, including dates for the departure of delegations to the talks," the prime minister's office said.

Behind the scenes: Netanyahu was supposed to hold a meeting on Saturday night with the heads of the negotiations team — Mossad director David Barnea, Shin Bet director Ronen Bar and Israeli Defense Forces Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon.

  • A senior Israeli official told Axios the negotiations team intended to present Netanyahu with a plan for beginning negotiations on the second phase of the deal in an effort to push the talks with Hamas in a positive direction.
  • But shortly before the meeting was scheduled to begin, Netanyahu cancelled it and sent his military adviser Maj. Gen. Roman Goffman to notify the heads of the negotiation team that the prime minister decided not to send a delegation to Qatar at the moment, the Israeli official said.
  • "Netanyahu made this decision without even holding a discussion with the negotiations team and hearing them out. He prefers not to do anything until the meeting with Trump," the official said.

Netanyahu's decision not to send the delegation to Qatar comes two days ago after he informed the heads of the negotiation team that his confidant Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer will be taking over as chief negotiator, two Israeli officials said.

  • The officials said Netanyahu's reasoning was that the negotiations on the second phase of the deal are more political and strategic in nature and are directly connected to the "day after" plan for Gaza that Dermer has been working on.
  • Netanyahu also said the negotiations will be conducted mainly with Witkoff, who is Dermer's counterpart.

But some Israeli officials think Netanyahu is trying to have full control over the negotiations and marginalize the role of the heads of the security and intelligence services in the talks.

  • A senior Israeli official said Barnea and Bar warned the prime minister that this change could harm the negotiations on the second phase of the deal and emphasized that the talks are not with the U.S. but with Hamas through Qatar and Egypt.

What to watch: "The real serious negotiations over phase two will only begin after Bibi meets Trump. Nothing meaningful will happen before that," a senior Israeli official said.

I spent 2 nights in one of Salt Lake City's only 5-star hotels. It epitomized luxury and was shockingly affordable.

  • The Grand America Hotel is a five-star hotel built in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympics.
  • The hotel is renowned globally and frequented by celebrities and traveling NBA teams.
  • I recently stayed there and found it incredibly luxurious for the price point.

Five-star hotels aren't the norm in Salt Lake City.

The metropolis of Utah's Silicon Slopes has a surprisingly thin supply of luxury accommodations. There were none before the Grand America Hotel was built in 2001 to serve the 2002 Olympics.

"One of the stipulations to bring the Olympics here was to build a five-star hotel," a hotel representative told Business Insider. "We hosted the Olympic committee."

In 2024, the Grand America Hotel was ranked among the best hotels in the world by CN Traveler's Reader's Choice Awards.

It's also a hot spot for celebrity sightings, and traveling NBA teams often stay there, the representative told BI.

I recently spent two nights at the premier hotel. With a starting rate of about $300 (depending on hotel occupancy), I thought it offered more luxury for your buck than any other accommodation I've booked.

There are four tiers of rooms. The lowest is a 700-square-foot premier room with a sectioned-off sitting area.

The second tier is an 880-square-foot executive suite with a living room.

A 1,000-square-foot kitchenette suite is the third tier, and the top tier is a 2,4000-square-foot presidential suite with two bathrooms, a whirlpool tub made of Italian marble, and a full kitchen, breakfast bar, and dining room.

The Grand America Hotel aims to be an American-sized, European-esque hotel. And I think it delivered.

The spaces were decorated with Italian marble floors and glass chandeliers, as well as French cherry-wood furniture and classic antiques.

The hotel reminded me of the lavish cars on the iconic luxury sleeper train I rode from Paris to Venice in 2023 — the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

After checking in, I made my way to my suite.

I booked an executive suite with a base rate of $340 a night, though BI received a media rate for the one-night stay.

Knowing the room's rate, I was astonished when I stepped inside. The accommodation was on par with luxury hotels I've booked that cost $1,000 a night.

I entered a spacious hallway leading to a large living room with a workspace. To the right was the bedroom, which had a king-sized bed. Both rooms had floor-to-ceiling windows framing the downtown Salt Lake City skyline and the hotel gardens below.

I had a huge walk-in closet with mirrored doors leading to the bathroom.

The bathroom was coated in Italian marble, with a shower and separate soaking tub. I found Grand America-branded luxury toiletries on the counter and in the shower. The lotion smelled so good that I asked for a couple more to bring home.

Ryan Reynolds Allegedly Calls Justin Baldoni a 'Stand Up’ Guy' in Texts

1 February 2025 at 18:00

Justin Baldoni has escalated his legal battle against his It Ends With Us costar Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.

In a series of text messages released by the director on Saturday, February 1 via his new website, thelawsuitinfo.com, Reynolds, 48, allegedly referred to Baldoni, 41, as a “stand up person.”

The texts were part of a 224-page complaint shared on the website, which hosts two PDF files titled “Amended Complaint” and “Timeline of Relevant Events” available to download.

When Did Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Unfollow Justin Baldoni on IG?

In one text, Reynolds allegedly told Baldoni he’d been in a “writing cave” and that his daughters were sick. In response to a message from the director, Reynolds wrote, “What a loving and generous message. Thank you. We’re both looking forward to getting to know you and your family better. We’re also big fans over here. Since before we met and more-so after.”

“You’ve been a wonderful collaborator with B and that means a great deal — to both of us,” Reynolds allegedly continued. “Being a stand up person is everything. And you’ve been just that since day one. Thank you.”

Reynolds allegedly went on to praise his wife, Lively, 37.

“You’ve hit the jackpot with B. She literally passes on every film and every filmmaker all the time. But one thing I know — and I speak from a deep wellspring of experience here, having her in your court behind the scenes, as a creative, is invaluable,” he allegedly wrote.

Reynolds allegedly added that “some of the greatest creative decisions ‘I’ve’ made are in fact Blake.”

“I’m excited for you to work together,” he also wrote. “I’m excited for Blake to crack open her creative piggy bank with someone as dynamic as you. This is gonna be INCREDIBLE.”

The actor also asked if Baldoni could adjust the film’s shooting dates by two weeks so that he “could have my family reunited as soon as possible.” He added, “We’re hardwired for keeping our family together, it’s how to win us, and it’s also how to kill us when we can’t.”

“All this to say, I’d have your … producer’s face tattooed to my perineum if he/she/they can figure out how to start two weeks earlier,” Reynolds also wrote. “Completely understand how big of an ask that is. But the perineum is one of the most nervy parts of the human body to expose to trauma. So…”

Justin Baldoni's Lawyer Reacts to Blake Lively Statement: 'Heinous Pivot'

Us Weekly reached out to reps for Lively, Reynolds and Baldoni for comment.

Baldoni’s team announced that a website was forthcoming last month. “Justin and team have the right to defend themselves with the truth,” Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, said in a statement to Us on January 21. “And this is what we will be continuing to show with the upcoming website containing all correspondence as well as relevant videos that directly quash her claims.”

Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing the director of creating a hostile work environment on the set of It Ends With Us and of sexual harassment. Baldoni has denied the allegations.

Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios filed their own lawsuit against Lively, her publicist Leslie Sloan, and Reynolds. He accused the group of civil extortion, defamation, invasion of privacy, and more. He is seeking $400 million in damages. Lively has denied the allegations and is seeking to have the lawsuit against her dismissed.

Justin Baldoni Posts Notes From 'It Ends With Us' Intimacy Coordinator Meeting

(Photo by Gotham/WireImage via Getty Images)

Amid his ongoing legal battle with Blake Lively, It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni has shared his alleged handwritten notes from a meeting with an intimacy coordinator for the film.

The notes from Baldoni, 41, were shared via a website with the URL “thelawsuitinfo.com” which Us Weekly confirmed went live on Saturday, February 1. Last month, the director promised the now-live website would support his allegations against Lively. Two documents were uploaded to Baldoni’s website titled “Amended Complaint” and “Timeline of Relevant Events” and are available to download.

The timeline claims that Baldoni met with an intimacy coordinator on April 21, 2023, to go over how they would shoot the sex scenes for the movie. Both the timeline and the amended complaint note that it was “important to [Baldoni] that the intimacy coordinator be a woman to help craft sex scenes that would speak to the book’s mostly female audience — i.e., be written from the ‘female gaze.’”

Intimacy Coordinator 'Surprised' Justin Baldoni's Team Released Dance Clip

Us has reached out to reps for both Baldoni and Lively for comment.

The document includes an image of Baldoni’s handwritten notes from the meeting, which he claimed were shared with Lively during one of their “script-writing meetings” at her residence in New York.

“These notes would later become the basis for Lively’s Complaint, in which she states that Baldoni would talk about his own sex life and insert gratuitous scenes with Lively’s character orgasming,” the document alleged. “As seen in the notes, these mentions come directly from the intimacy coordinator’s notes — ‘goes down on her,’ ‘orgasm,’ ‘foreplay,’ ‘The clit test.’”

The document continued, “Ideally, these conversations would have taken place directly between Lively and the intimacy coordinator directly, as Baldoni had requested. However, Lively declined to meet with her, leaving Baldoni in the less than ideal position of having to relay these notes to Lively in her penthouse.”

Blake Lively Called Intimacy Coordinators 'Critical' Prior to Lawsuit

Lively, 37, officially filed a lawsuit against Baldoni on December 31, 2024, Us previously confirmed, wherein she accused the director of sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy and lost wages.

Baldoni has denied the allegations, going so far as to file his own lawsuit against Lively, her publicist Leslie Sloan, and Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds. In his lawsuit, where he is seeking $400 million in damages, he accused the trio of civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy and more. In his lawsuit, Baldoni claimed Lively had never met with an intimacy coordinator while filming It Ends With Us.

Lively denies the allegations.

Last month, Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman released footage from the set of the film, obtained by Us, in an attempt to disprove Lively’s claims that Baldoni was behaving inappropriately while filming a slow dance montage.

Blake Lively Versus Justin Baldoni's Version of 'It Ends With Us'

Freedman said in a statement to Us after the footage was released in January: “Us received this video from legal counsel, Bryan Freedman who has gone on record numerous times and told the public that Justin Baldoni and team has nothing to hide and this video, once more proves this. Justin and team have the right to defend themselves with the truth and this is what we will be continuing to show with the upcoming website containing all correspondence as well as relevant videos that directly quash her claims.”

Lively’s lawyers, however, retaliated with a statement to Us: “Justin Baldoni and his lawyer may hope that this latest stunt will get ahead of the damaging evidence against him, but the video itself is damning. Every frame of the released footage corroborates, to the letter, what Ms. Lively described in Paragraph 48 of her Complaint.”

The statement continued, “Every moment of this was improvised by Mr. Baldoni with no discussion or consent in advance and no intimacy coordinator present.”

“Mr. Baldoni was not only Ms. Lively’s costar, but the director, the head of [the] studio and Ms. Lively’s boss,” Lively’s attorneys continued. “The video shows Ms. Lively leaning away and repeatedly asking for the characters to just talk. Any woman who has been inappropriately touched in the workplace will recognize Ms. Lively’s discomfort. They will recognize her attempts at levity to try to deflect the unwanted touching. No woman should have to take defensive measures to avoid being touched by their

Real Housewives of New York alum Luann de Lesseps shared her secrets to staying fit at 59.

“You should not drink while you eat,” de Lesseps said in an interview with Fox News Digital published on Saturday, February 1, starting with a tip she gleaned from visiting Austrian spas.

“People are drinking cold drinks while they eat,” the reality star, who recently launched her Countess Cabaret tour, continued. “What happens is digestion starts in the mouth. That’s why we salivate because when we’re hungry, you think — the burn — the digestive juices are already going, so the most important thing is to chew a lot while you eat. Pay attention to that. And don’t drink while you’re eating.”

De Lesseps explained that, for example, “Europeans are thinner because they sip wine,” as opposed to “big, cold drinks.”

She went on, “That’s not their thing. This is a very key thing in order to stay in good shape. Drink water 20 minutes before you eat or drink — whatever you want to drink. But 20 minutes before you eat and 20 minutes after. So, not while [eating] because it waters down your digestive enzymes and juices that metabolize your food.”

Another secret for the TV personality’s fit physique is portion control.

“In America, we eat a lot. We get big portions. So, it’s about portion control as well, and eating slowly,” she told the outlet. “When you eat slowly, you don’t eat as much because it takes time for your brain to register that you have actually kind of had enough.”

She said, “So, it’s taking time to eat and taking your time and eating slowly and chewing well. This way, you feel satiated. A lot of people just skip over that point and just eat everything and, you know, listen, I’m guilty of the same thing sometimes. But that’s how I stay fit.”

For de Lesseps, intermittent fasting is another method she uses to maintain her figure. “I love fasting,” she said. “Intermittent fasting, which is you eat late in the morning and you try not to eat [after] 6 p.m. because digestion will wake you up during the middle of the night. Like, if you have a steak at night, you’re bound to wake up in the middle of the night because digestion needs energy, so it wakes you up.”

De Lesseps also advised eating some sort of protein and a salad for lunch instead of dinner, saying that “salad is a no-no after” 6 p.m.

“They’re having a salad at night with their protein and all that, dressing, with parmesan cheese and croutons — and they’re like, ‘This is light,’” she explained. “Well, the problem with salad is it’s 99% water. So, what is that doing? It’s watering down your digestion, just like if you had a drink. People are washing it down with drinks as well, so digestion’s out.”

Instead of salad after 6 p.m., de Lesseps suggested “cooked vegetables,” which she says will have “much more to give you than a salad ever will.” She said, “Not to say that dark greens aren’t good for you. Arugula, spinach, iron filled with vitamins, but during the day. Or you make sautéed spinach at night, and you don’t have salad.”

Apart from diet, de Lesseps suggested being active as another way for people to stay healthy.

“I’m a jock. I love sports. So, I’m very active. I think being very active is one of the best things that you can do in order to stay fit,” she said, listing “water aerobics” and “SoulCycle” as options for being physically active.

“So, those are big tips,” she added. “It’s really about digesting, the way you eat and just keep it moving.”

Nikki Bella made her surprise return to WWE during the 2025 women’s Royal Rumble match.

Bella, 41, was the 30th and final entrant in the over the top rope battle royal at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, February 1.

The wrestler entered the ring wearing her iconic outfit featuring her backwards red hat. Once in the ring, Nikki joined forces with her fellow wrestlers in an attempt to throw Nia Jax out of the ring. (To no avail   Jax threw nine wrestlers off of her at one time, as one does.)

Nia ultimately eliminated Nikki, before Charlotte Flair took the crown as the 2025 Royal Rumble champion and secured herself a ticket to this year’s Wrestlemania in Las Vegas, Nevada

The match marked Bella’s first in-ring appearance since she was a surprise entrant in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match. She and her twin sister, Brie, officially retired from full-time wrestling action in 2019.

However, Nikki recently told Us Weekly that she was itching to get back inside the squared circle after making an appearance at WWE Raw’s debut on Netflix on January 6.

“I’ve missed it for quite a few years,” Nikki said in an interview published Wednesday, January 29. “I miss being Nikki Bella. I miss being around that family. I definitely miss being in that ring. When they put me in the crowd that night and to feel the energy and see the Bella Army, whether they were in the crowd or online, it starts to give you these feels.”

Nikki added, “Going home to WWE, I don’t think people understand, I started at 22. That’s all I ever knew up until a little bit ago. So, that’s been the biggest home for me and to go back and be home and the environment there is so incredible. The women were just, what a great locker room. They were just so awesome and together and one and unity and everyone back there was just so happy. You could tell the energy there right now is just incredible.”

When Nikki was ringside for the Netflix debut earlier this month, she explained how it gave her an appreciation for the glass ceilings she and Brie were able to break.

“I’m like, ‘This is why we paved roads in this industry,’” Nikki gushed. “I feel so blessed to go back and experience it. I’m like, ‘OK, I think I need to experience this more.’ I really love it. I feel like I’ve still got it, so we’ll see.”

Nikki even hinted that she might be able to convince her sister to join her in the ring again soon.

“When I went and I came back, I was like, ‘Brie, it’s so amazing,’” Nikki said. “So maybe we should make a comeback. She’s so in mom mode, but Brie has that fire in her, too. She has that last run. I feel like it wouldn’t take a lot to get her to come back with me.”

While she’s focused on being a “great mom,” Nikki is excited to show her son that she doesn’t fit into one box.

“[I want to] also show my son how amazing it is that women can do all these incredible things,” she said, “whether that’s kicking butt in the ring, running a boardroom, being amazing at school.”
