  • Lauren Sánchez has been wearing daring outfits since the start of her career as a TV news anchor.
  • Her fashion has gotten even bolder while in a relationship with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
  • Her most striking outfit choices have included corset minidresses and see-through lace gowns.

When Lauren Sánchez attends an event, she's tough to miss.

For one thing, the Emmy-award-winning news anchor usually attends red carpets and fundraising dinners alongside her billionaire fiancé, Jeff Bezos. Together, they're often the it-couple at events.

She's also on her way to becoming a fashion force all on her own.

In April 2024, Sánchez first caught major style attention when she wore a semi-sheer corset gown to attend a White House state dinner. The daring dress was divisive and cemented her spot in the world of fashion discourse.

She then attended her first Met Gala that year and was said to have been styled in part by Anna Wintour herself.

Here's a look at her boldest style moments, from see-through pieces to form-fitting gowns.

Lauren Sánchez first experimented with daring fashion in 2004.

She attended the Shalom Foundation Gala that year wearing a strapless brown dress that hugged her body and reached the floor.

It was covered from top to bottom in beaded florals and was held together across its open back with extremely thin strings — one of which also crossed her shoulder like a strap.

She donned a visible corset years later when she attended the 2010 American Music Awards.

She walked the red carpet in a black minidress, which was strapless, lined with mesh, and cinched at the waist with a plethora of small strings.

Sánchez wore the bold garment with strappy sandals and a statement ring.

Her fashion really took a daring turn when she and Jeff Bezos became red-carpet official.

The couple walked their first red carpet together in coordinated outfits featuring bold prints. But Sánchez's red and black gown stood out for a few other reasons, too.

The sequined piece had a plunging neckline that reached her navel, sheer long sleeves decorated with black beads, and a thigh-high slit.

For the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars party, Sánchez tried the "no pants" look.

She walked the blue carpet alongside Bezos in a sequined, off-the-shoulder gown from Elie Saab. It was crafted with a black leotard and sheer overlay.

Aside from thin black stripes, the latter piece was sheer, showing her legs and see-through sandals.

The dress was also designed with a low, V-shaped neckline, adding another daring element to the look.

She's never afraid to rock vibrant colors.

At Kering's 2023 Caring For Women dinner, Sánchez posed for photographers in a fluorescent yellow gown.

The high-neck dress was form-fitting up top, floor-length at the bottom, and covered entirely in sequins.

Sánchez wore one of her most daring looks to date at a Dolce & Gabbana party in January 2024.

She was photographed walking with Bezos to the Milan party, but her black dress captured all the attention.

The form-fitting piece was strapless with a corset top and crafted entirely from lace — meaning it was also see-through and revealed her black underwear.

She wore the daring dress with black sandals, a rosette shawl, sunglasses, and a long silver necklace.

She celebrated the Oscars months later in an eye-catching dress that matched the Vanity Fair red carpet.

Lever Couture designed her red dress with a deep neckline, puffy tulle sleeves, a corset bodice, and a semi-sheer skirt.

The party outfit was as glamorous as it was bold, thanks to Sánchez's accessories. She wore tan pumps, diamond earrings, and a statement, sparkling necklace.

Some of her boldest looks have been controversial, like the corset dress Sánchez wore to the White House in 2024.

Sánchez and Bezos were invited to the White House for a state dinner in honor of then-Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

But while Bezos wore a classic tuxedo, his fiancée took a much bolder approach.

Sánchez, styled by Kelly Johnson, wore a red gown with a satin skirt and see-through corset top. The latter piece had a low neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and lace detailing.

Many questioned whether the daring dress was appropriate in the White House setting, but others — including celebrities like Chrissy Teigen — staunchly defended her character and outfit choice.

She then wore yet another lace corset piece to attend a pre-Met Gala party.

Sánchez made her Met Gala debut in 2024 with much fanfare. According to fashion journalist and author Amy Odell, Anna Wintour helped pick the Oscar de la Renta gown Sánchez wore, and it was the first time Bezos attended with a date in over a decade.

But the couple also attended a celebratory dinner beforehand and an after-party following the ball.

For the former event, Sánchez sported a black minidress that was strapless and made from see-through lace. It also had a corset bodice that was cinched at the waist.

Sánchez opted for a nude-illusion gown in September 2024.

Oscar de la Renta designed the long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder garment she wore to Kering's Caring for Women event.

It had a tan bodysuit that matched her skin tone beneath a sheath of dark floral lace. The dress hugged her body and showed some skin, creating a look that was both daring and glamorous.

Rumors surrounding Sánchez and Bezos's coming wedding have been circulating for over a year. So it was pretty bold of the children's author to wear a white gown that looked like a wedding dress to Vanity Fair's Oscar Party.

The Oscar de la Renta piece was strapless with a mermaid silhouette and embellished with white feathers at the top and bottom of its skirt.

Lauren Sanchez's first trip to space gave her major perspective. Here's what she realized while floating above the Earth.

  • Lauren Sánchez launched to the edge of space on a Blue Origin rocket Monday morning.
  • It's the first all-female crew since 1963 when Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.
  • Sánchez said she was "so proud of this crew" for their bravery.

Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sánchez made history on Monday, becoming part of the first all-female crew to launch toward space in the 21st century. The last time was in 1963 when cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.

Katy Perry, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn joined Sánchez on the flight.

"It was a feeling of joy and camaraderie. It was a feeling of gratefulness. It was a feeling that we're doing this," Sánchez said shortly after returning to Earth.

The journalist and helicopter pilot rode Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket, which takes space tourists to 62 miles above Earth's surface — to the Kármán line, which is the internationally recognized boundary between space and our planet.

The rocket is named after the NASA astronaut Alan Shepard, who conducted a similar, brief suborbital flight to become the first American in space in 1961.

"Alan Shepard did this same exact flight and he became the first American in space, and six women just did the same flight," Sánchez said.

'More connected than you realize'

The six women experienced weightlessness for about three minutes before falling back to Earth. Looking out of the rocket's windows in those few moments of zero-G, Sánchez said she felt connected.

"Earth looked so, it was so quiet," she said adding that, "You look at it and you're like — we're all in this together. That's all I could think about, like, we're so connected, more connected than you realize."

Astronauts have long described similar, overwhelming feelings of awe, unity, and appreciation for Earth's fragility as they gaze down on our planet from space. They call it "the overview effect."

Shepard himself said he cried when he saw Earth from the moon during an Apollo mission in 1971. The Star Trek actor William Shatner also cried when he returned from a suborbital Blue Origin flight in 2021, saying: "It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the suddenness of life and death."

Sánchez said she was proud of her fellow crew members' bravery while venturing into the unknown.

"Gayle — you know we were just talking in the capsule — doesn't even have ear piercings, she's so afraid to do anything. And she got in that capsule, and I think it profoundly changed her," Sánchez said.

Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000 and has been launching tourists to space since the billionaire himself flew on New Shepard's maiden passenger flight in 2021.

Bezos founded Blue Origin with the idea to help move heavy, polluting industries off our planet and into space, and has said the company could lay the groundwork for one trillion people to live and work in space someday.

This goal is still a long way off but Blue Origin is making progress.

Although New Shepard can only skim the edge of space, in January the company flew its orbital mega-rocket New Glenn for the first time. New Glenn is designed to lift heavy payloads to space and the moon.

Katy Perry sang in space. Her Blue Origin crew members wanted a different song.

  • Katy Perry joined Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket.
  • She sang the Louis Armstrong song "What a Wonderful World" while on board.
  • Perry emphasized the flight's focus on collective energy and future women in space.

Katy Perry spent the morning as an astronaut. But while she sailed through space on a 10-minute flight, she reminded the all-female crew that she's a singer, too.

On Monday, Perry, Gayle King, and Lauren Sánchez were among the star-studded crew members who took a flight to space on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket. During the flight, a faint sound of someone singing was audible on the live stream.

After the 10-minute flight, King revealed that Perry was singing "What a Wonderful World." Perry explained why she chose to sing the Louis Armstrong classic.

"I've covered that song in the past," she said. "Obviously my higher self is steering the ship. I had no clue I'd one day decide to sing a little bit of that in space."

King said that she and other crew members, which along with Sánchez included bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and film producer Kerianne Flynn, wanted Perry to sing one of her hits like "Roar" or "Firework," but Perry declined, saying the moment was "not about me."

"It's not about singing my songs," she said. "It's about a collective energy and making space for future women. It's about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth."

  • Lauren Sánchez's all-female space crew took flight Monday on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket.
  • Katy Perry promised to sing on the trip and did so, but it was difficult to hear.
  • Here's what to know about the flight and crew of the New Shepard 31.

Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, and a crew of inspirational women took a trip to space on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket on Monday.

The women were on Blue Origin's NS-31, the 31st flight of the New Shepard rocket program, which launched from its base in Texas.

Here's what to know about the flight and the crew.

The rocket traveled to space at up to three times the speed of sound.

About 2 minutes and 40 seconds after launch, the crew capsule separated from the rocket, allowing it to cruise 62 miles above Earth over the Kármán line — the internationally recognized boundary separating Earth's atmosphere from space.

Once they were past this line, the crew unbuckled to experience a few minutes of weightlessness before the capsule fell back to Earth.

The capsule landed using parachutes roughly 11 minutes after takeoff.

The NS-31 crew featured: Sánchez, an Emmy-winning journalist and finance of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos; pop star Perry; Gayle King, the award-winning CBS News anchor; Amanda Nguyen, a bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist; Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist; and Kerianne Flynn, a film producer.

Not only was Nguyen the first Vietnamese woman in space, but this was the first all-female space crew since 1963, when Valentina Tereshkova, a Russian engineer, crewed a solo flight.

Sánchez told Elle magazine she chose the other crew members because they're all "storytellers in their own right. They're going to go up to space and be able to spread what they felt in different ways."

Sánchez asked Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, the creative directors of luxury brand Oscar de la Renta and co-founders of their own brand Monse, to make fashionable spacesuits for the crew, she told The New York Times.

The NS-31 crew is certified ‘ready to fly to space’ by CrewMember 7 Sarah Knights. The launch window opens tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC.

Garcia and Kim partnered with Creative Character Engineering, a Hollywood costume company, to create the Monse Blue Origin suits.

On Sunday, Perry posted an Instagram video showing the capsule, explaining that they dubbed their crew "The Taking Up Space Crew" and promising to sing during the flight.

During the flight, she sang as she'd previously promised, but the audio was difficult to hear.

King said on the Blue Origin livestream that Perry sang "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

"It's not about me. It's not about singing my songs," Perry said of her song choice. "It's about a collective energy and making space for future women. It's about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth."

Meanwhile, Nguyen said on Instagram she would conduct multiple experiments on women's health and plants during the brief flight.

Blue Origin, founded by Bezos, has been offering space tourism flights since 2021.

The company does not disclose the cost of a space flight, but the website says applicants must pay a $150,000 refundable deposit.

In 2021, Blue Origin auctioned a seat for its maiden flight for $28 million. Tim Chrisman, the cofounder of the Foundation for the Future, told the Observer in 2022 that a board member of the nonprofit paid $1 million for his seat.

Blue Origin has also attracted several celebrities, including William Shatner, the "Star Trek" star.

  • Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez will wed in Venice this summer.
  • Around 200 guests, including Kim Kardashian and Ivanka Trump, are expected to attend.
  • The couple went public with their relationship in 2019 and became engaged in 2023.

Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos are preparing to host the wedding of the year — or maybe even the century.

After months of speculation, the mayor of Venice confirmed in late March that the billionaire and his soon-to-be bride are set to wed within the Italian city's borders this summer.

The ceremony will take place more than six years after the couple went public with their relationship in January 2019.

Here's everything we know about the highly anticipated event so far.

Hundreds of invitations and a luxe destination

Bezos, 61, and Sánchez, 55, have yet to share any details about their coming wedding. However, other involved parties have.

Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro released a statement on Saturday saying the city would host the coming nuptials.

He told The Times that Venice won the couple's affection — they considered multiple destinations — with some help from Dolce & Gabbana designer Domenico Dolce.

Local officials also said four luxury hotels and a fleet of water taxis have been rented for the occasion, The Times reported.

The Amazon founder and his fiancée have invited around 200 guests, according to Brugnaro's statement. That list is said to include Kim Kardashian, Ivanka Trump, and Bill Gates, among other celebrities and billionaires.

However, Brugnaro said Venice is equipped to handle the star-studded ceremony and has "experience in international events much larger than this."

"The organization (Bezos and guests) have categorically not booked large amounts of gondolas or excessive numbers of water taxis," he said. "It is their utmost priority to make sure the city functions as normal, for all, with no abnormal disruption to anyone."

The couple was previously surrounded by rumors that they were hosting a $600 million winter wedding in Aspen last year until Bezos shut down the speculation on X.

Italian publications later said they'd wed on Bezos' $500 million yacht in the region, though The Daily Mail reported that the rumor was false.

Page Six reported that wedding invitations have officially been sent and that the couple's outfit fittings are now underway.

This weekend, photos of Bezos and Sánchez visiting a Dolce & Gabbana store in Milan were published. As they left the boutique, members of their posse were seen carrying white garment bags.

There are also rumors that Sánchez's wedding dress will be designed by Oscar de la Renta, the same designer who created her 2024 Met Gala gown.

The story of Bezos and Sánchez

The couple is said to have connected at an Amazon Studios party for the film "Manchester by the Sea" in 2016 while they were both married to other people.

In 2018, they reconnected professionally when Bezos hired Sánchez's aerial filming company to work with Blue Origin.

Bezos and his now ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, announced their divorce on January 9, 2019, and his relationship with Sánchez was announced hours later.

The couple confirmed their engagement in May 2023 and have been attending major events like White House dinners and movie premieres ever since.

Why Venice's mayor is reassuring locals ahead of Jeff Bezos' wedding

  • Billionaire Jeff Bezos' marriage to Lauren Sánchez is set to take place in Venice this summer.
  • The city's mayor is attempting to reassure locals ahead of the event.
  • He said organizers were working to ensure it would be "respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city."

As the city of Venice confirmed it is gearing up to host the wedding of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez this summer, the local mayor attempted to reassure residents amid the ongoing battle with overtourism.

In a statement on Saturday, the city of Venice said the billionaire and his bride-to-be's upcoming nuptials would not cause disruption to residents or visitors and that the priority would be to make sure the city — long a tourist hotspot — "functions as normal."

The statement said that 200 guests are due to attend the Venetian ceremony, but it stressed that the city was accustomed to handling large international events.

It also denied reports that large numbers of gondolas or "excessive" numbers of water taxis had been booked for the occasion.

"The many speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos' wedding are completely unfounded," the statement continued.

Luigi Brugnaro, Venice's mayor, added: "We are mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city. For this reason, we will work together for best result. Whoever loves Venice will always be welcome."

The city did not disclose the date for Bezos and Sanchez's destination wedding, and representatives for the Blue Origin founder did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, which was sent outside regular working hours.

However, a spokesperson for the mayor of Venice told CNN that the celebrations are due to take place from June 24 to June 26.

Bezos and Sánchez, a former broadcast journalist, became engaged in May 2023. The Washington Post owner was previously married to MacKenzie Scott, with whom he has four children.

It's not the first time the "floating city" has played host to a high-profile wedding.

In 2014, George and Amal Clooney tied the knot at the exclusive Aman Canal Grande Hotel, which faces onto the iconic Grand Canal.

But in recent years, the city — famed for its maze of picturesque canals and stunning architecture — has garnered increasing attention for its attempts to push back on overtourism.

With a population of around just 50,000, the island city of Venice welcomes around 20 million visitors a year — and many of its outnumbered residents are fed up.

Several measures have been introduced to try to tackle the issue, including limiting tourist groups to 25 people, banning large cruise ships from entering the Venice Lagoon, and charging a daily 5-euro (around $5.40) fee to day-trippers.

Meet Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos' fiancée who went to space with an all-female crew

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, have now both been to space.
  • Sánchez, a helicopter pilot and former journalist, went to space with an all-female crew via Bezos' Blue Origin.

Four years ago, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos went to space with his rocket company, Blue Origin. Now, his fiancée can say the same.

Lauren Sánchez, a former journalist and licensed pilot herself, led Blue Origin's all-woman crew on a trip to space in April 2025. The crew also included "CBS Mornings" cohost Gayle King, pop star Katy Perry, Nobel Peace Prize nominee Amanda Nguyen, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

Here's a look at Sánchez's life and career:

Lauren Sánchez had a long career as a reporter and news anchor.

Sánchez grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and studied broadcast journalism at the University of Southern California. She started her journalistic career as an intern on the Los Angeles station Channel 13 during college, according to a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

She began anchoring UPN News 13 on Los Angeles' KCOP in 1999, winning a Los Angeles Area Emmy award for her work on the show in 2001, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Sánchez went on to work as a host at various news channels before landing at Fox 11's "Good Day LA" in 2003, where she worked for six years. She then became a weekend anchor and special correspondent on "Extra" in 2009.

She's even played a news anchor in several movies and TV shows.

In addition to once being an anchor in real life, Sánchez has starred as a news anchor in movies including "Fight Club," "The Day After Tomorrow," and "The Fantastic Four."

Sánchez learned how to fly while working as a news anchor and she started flying planes in 2011 before getting her helicopter pilot's license in 2016.

Her interest in aviation seems to have been sparked at an early age, as her father was a flight instructor and mechanic who rebuilt planes.

"I was always in the hangar growing up but knew nothing about flying," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

She founded her own aerial filming company.

Sánchez founded Black Ops Aviation in 2016, a "female owned and operated" aerial filming company, which has shot footage for Amazon, Netflix, and Fox, among others.

Sánchez also lent her aerial-filming knowledge to Christopher Nolan as a consultant on "Dunkirk."

She used to host a dancing reality show.

Sánchez was a host on the first season of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" in 2005, but she left the show after one season.

Sánchez was married to Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell for 13 years.

Whitesell is co-CEO of the Hollywood agency WME, and his clients include Matt Damon, Christian Bale, and Hugh Jackman. Whitesell and Sánchez married in 2005 and separated in the fall of 2018.

They finalized their divorce in October 2019 with shared custody of their two children, People magazine reported.

Sánchez also has a son from her previous relationship with NFL star Tony Gonzalez.

Bezos and Sánchez first connected at a 2016 Amazon Studios party for the film "Manchester by the Sea," according to Brad Stone's book, "Amazon Unbound."

Their relationship "blossomed" during helicopter rides in 2018, when Bezos hired Sánchez's company to film footage for his rocket company, Blue Origin, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Their relationship came to light in a 2019 tabloid scandal, and the couple went public shortly after Bezos and his now-ex-wife, author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, announced their divorce in 2019 following 25 years of marriage.

In May 2023, CNN reported that Sánchez and Bezos had gotten engaged, citing a source close to the couple. Sanchez was also photographed with a large diamond ring on her left ring finger while onboard Bezos' $500 million megayacht.

In Vogue's December 2023 issue, Sánchez revealed that Bezos proposed on his yacht, Koru.

"When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit," she said.

While Sánchez and Bezos have often been spotted cruising on his yacht or attending high-profile events, including President Trump's inauguration, Sánchez says they also have more mundane days at home.

"On a typical Saturday, we hang out, we have dinner with the kids, which is always fun because you never know where the conversation is going to go with this many kids," Sanchez told The Wall Street Journal in 2023. "We are the Brady Bunch!"

In 2020, Bezos announced that he would commit $10 billion — about 7.7% of his net worth at the time — to fighting the climate crisis as part of an initiative called the Bezos Earth Fund. Sánchez serves as the organization's vice chair.

Sánchez's picture book, "The Fly Who Flew to Space," came out in September 2024.

She's talked about how her own struggles with dyslexia were part of the inspiration for her writing the book. Celebrities such as Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, and Karlie Kloss have endorsed the book, with Kloss writing that the "story sparks curiosity and imagination while introducing young minds to the magic of STEM!"

In April 2025, Sánchez went to space.

The roughly 11-minute journey took the six-person all-women crew past the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Blue Origin says this was the first all-female flight crew since Valentina Tereshkova's flight to space in 1963.

Sánchez told Elle magazine she handpicked her crew, choosing each of the women because they're all "storytellers in their own right. They're going to go up to space and be able to spread what they felt in different ways."

Sánchez said having this unique viewpoint of Earth showed her that people are "more connected than you realize."

Sánchez said Earth looked "quiet but also really alive."

Speaking right after the crew touched back down in Texas, Sánchez said she felt "complete and utter joy and gratefulness."

"I can't put it into words," she said. "It was like quiet but also really alive. And you look at it and you're like we're all in this together. That's all I could think about. We're so connected, more connected than you realize because you just see right here, you see states and all these things that divide us, but we're not."

Sánchez described seeing the moon and joked she had to return because of her and Bezos' upcoming nuptials.

"I had to come back, I mean we're getting married," she said. "If I didn't come back, that would be a bummer for me."

Sánchez and Bezos plan to get married in Venice later in 2025.

The reported guest list for Bezos' and Sánchez's wedding includes names like Kim Kardashian, Bill Gates, and Ivanka Trump.

Venice, which has been sinking, has in recent years tried to curb overtourism, which has contributed to pollution and other quality of life issues for local residents.

Venice mayor Luigi Brugnaro said in a statement that Bezos and Sánchez "have categorically not booked large amounts of gondolas or excessive numbers of water taxis."

"It is their utmost priority to make sure the city functions as normal, for all, with no abnormal disruption to anyone," the mayor added.

  • In an Instagram video, Lauren Sánchez shared details about her Blue Origin flight to space.
  • She said she'd fly with Katy Perry, Gayle King, and other women storytellers this spring.
  • Sánchez, Jeff Bezos' fiancée, wore an $18,120 necklace meant to bring luck.

Flying to space is expensive, but so is Lauren Sánchez's fashion.

On Thursday, Sánchez, a helicopter pilot and former journalist, shared details on Instagram about Blue Origin's all-women space flight while wearing a diamond necklace that cost more than $18,000.

The pricey piece wasn't just a fashion statement — it was also meant to bring her good luck.

The $18,120 necklace was made by the New York City brand Marlo Laz.

It features a gold paper-clip-style chain, a round pavé diamond clasp, and a statement charm embellished with a 6-carat white diamond.

The latter piece is also decorated with the French phrase "porte-bonheur," which translates to "lucky charm."

Sánchez is set to fly to space this spring alongside women whom she described as "extraordinary in all of their fields" and "incredible storytellers."

They are the musician Katy Perry, the "CBS Mornings" cohost Gayle King, the activist Amanda Nguyen, the aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and the film producer Kerianne Flynn.

They'll travel via a rocket created by Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Sánchez's fiancé, Jeff Bezos. Their journey is set to last about 11 minutes and take them past the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. The company said it would be the first all-women flight since Valentina Tereshkova's solo mission in 1963.

Bezos has described Blue Origin as his "most important work" and has discussed his desire to bring space travel to the masses.

Only time will tell if Sánchez brings her lucky pendant along on her flight.

How Lauren Sánchez's style has evolved, from carrying Birkins to daring White House outfits

  • Lauren Sánchez is a former news anchor, the fiancée of Jeff Bezos, and a rising fashion star.
  • Her style has notably evolved over the years from casual minidresses to see-through gowns.
  • She's also become a fan of vibrant colors, including deep reds and neon yellows.

News anchor, helicopter pilot, actor, and mother can all be used to describe Lauren Sánchez. You could also call her a rising fashion star.

The 55-year-old New Mexico native has been wearing bold looks on red carpets since the start of her career. But in recent years — especially while making her relationship with Jeff Bezos public — her style has leveled up.

Here's a look at her fashion evolution, from simple outfits accessorized with Hermès bags to see-through pieces at White House events.

Lauren Sánchez kept her outfits simple at the start of her career.

She regularly wore trendy two-piece outfits in the early 2000s and an assortment of minidresses — like the brown knit piece she sported at the 2002 Environmental Media Awards.

Sánchez also had a signature pair of shoes at that point in her career: a pair of PVC sandals with light-brown soles and thin, see-through heels.

But she wasn't afraid to experiment with daring styles.

At the 2004 Shalom Foundation Gala, Sánchez donned a deep-gray gown that hugged her body at the bodice and reached the floor with its long skirt.

It was also practically strapless, with only a single spaghetti-thin strap across one shoulder. The piece connected to more strings across its open back, which held the dress up and created a daring detail.

Sánchez completed the outfit with crystal earrings and a silver statement watch.

Her accessories were always chic, even in the early 2000s.

While attending a High Flying fundraiser in 2008, Sánchez opted for trendy styles at the time: a high-neck, short-sleeve blouse tucked into a black-and-white circle skirt, knee-high boots over semi-sheer tights, and a leather belt.

But her purse was timeless. She carried a solid black Hermès Birkin bag with what appeared to be palladium hardware.

She started to look like a Hollywood star around 2010.

She attended Vanity Fair's Oscars after-party that year in a shimmering gown that was fit for an award winner.

The dress was sleeveless, form-fitting, and covered from top to bottom in silver sparkles. It also had a tan lining that gave the dress a nude illusion and a deep V-neckline.

She began introducing vibrant colors to her wardrobe around the same time.

At the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, Sánchez sported a strapless, understated gown. It had a fitted bodice, a straight skirt, and solid fabric.

But its bright-red shade stood out on the carpet and made for a memorable look. The color has become one of Sánchez's go-to shades in recent years.

She completed the look with platform sandals and diamond jewelry.

She wore a black-and-red dress that was as daring as it was glamorous. It featured long sleeves made from dotted mesh, a plunging neckline that reached her navel, and a thigh-high slit that showed her platform sandals.

The piece also had a geometric print crafted from sequins that shimmered in the light.

And even when they began coordinating their outfits, Sánchez's daring aesthetic still shined.

The couple attended the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in matching black outfits. While Bezos sported a classic suit, Sánchez stood out in a bold Elie Saab gown.

The dress had a corseted bodice with off-the-shoulder sleeves, black sparkles arranged in stripes, and a see-through skirt that revealed her legs.

In recent years, color has remained a staple of Sánchez's outfits.

At the 2023 Kering Caring for Women dinner, for example, Sánchez sported a neon-yellow gown from Dolce & Gabbana.

The halter dress hugged her body, reached the floor, and didn't need any accessories. It sparkled entirely on its own.

So have see-through dresses — even while visiting the White House.

Sánchez and Bezos attended a 2024 state dinner hosted by Joe Biden in honor of then-Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Though the couple's presence was notable on its own, Sánchez's outfit caught even more attention.

She wore an off-the-shoulder gown crafted from red satin and lace. Its corseted bodice was semi-sheer with a low neckline, and its skirt was tightly wrapped around her legs.

Sánchez wore it with gold-leaf sandals and diamond earrings.

She stunned in an Oscar de la Renta gown. It featured a strapless black bodice with a sweetheart neckline and a full skirt decorated with reflective pieces shaped like roses.

It was even rumored that Anna Wintour had a hand in the outfit choice.

She then took on the style of a businesswoman to promote her children's book.

At the Forbes Power Women's Summit in September 2024, Sánchez talked about the start of her career, writing her first children's book, and being engaged to Bezos.

For the occasion, she sported an all-white outfit with long trousers, a blazer that revealed her lace bralette, and platform heels.

After wearing her McQueen suit to the Forbes panel in September and a New York Times book event in December, she donned it again at Donald Trump's inauguration.

This time around, however, she paired it with another daring piece: a Schiaparelli coat made from brushed wool, mohair, and gold-brass buttons designed to look like nipples.

The Italian piece retails for 8,700 euros, or about $9,073.

See the parties where Silicon Valley's elite and DC insiders celebrated Trump's inauguration

  • Tech CEOs, GOP megadonors, and media personalities celebrated Donald Trump's inauguration.
  • Parties thrown by the likes of billionaire Peter Thiel and X attracted big Silicon Valley names.
  • The weekend demonstrated a realignment of the richest's Trump support as he starts a second term.

Tech CEOs and billionaires were front and center, quite literally, at Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday — as well as at the parties celebrating his ascendence to president for the second time.

The photos of the Silicon Valley elite taken this past weekend in Washington, D.C., seem to leave little doubt of a broader realignment of Trump's relationship with some of the wealthiest individuals in the country as he heads into his second term. It's a marked change from 2016 and Trump's first term, which often saw the same tech CEOs at odds with the president.

Throughout the weekend, a similar cast of very rich characters was spotted at various events dedicated to the new president.

The Crypto Ball on Friday night kicked things off. One of the evening's stars was David Sacks, a PayPal Mafia member and Trump's incoming AI and crypto tzar. The event drew a number of billionaire guests from the industry, like crypto investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong.

On Saturday, billionaire venture capitalist and GOP megadonor Peter Thiel threw an exclusive party at his D.C. mansion, attended by Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Uber founder Travis Kalanick, The New York Times reported.

On Sunday night, at a party thrown by X, Uber, and Bari Weiss's The Free Press, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi posed with UFC fighter Conor McGregor, while X CEO Linda Yaccarino smiled with podcaster Lex Fridman. The same evening, at a dinner at the National Building Museum, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, chatted with Ivanka Trump.

Monday night's official events — the Commander-in-Chief Ball, the Liberty Ball, and the Starlight Ball — included performances from the likes of the Rascal Flatts, Gavin DeGraw, and Nelly, while Meta CEO Zuckerberg, who'd also had a prime place in the Capitol Rotunda, cohosted a party with billionaire GOP donor Miriam Adelson, Todd Ricketts, and billionaire Tilman Fertitta.

Throughout the weekend, many of Trump's billionaire donors who have been supporters since his first term were also out celebrating, as were members of the media, like podcaster Theo Von and YouTuber Jake Paul.

Here's a look at how the rich and famous celebrated Trump's inauguration:

Crypto Ball

One of the first events of the weekend, Friday's Crypto Ball in the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, brought together many of the biggest — and richest — names in cryptocurrency.

The four hosts of the "All-In" podcast — venture capitalists Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks, and David Friedberg — were in attendance. Sacks will serve as the White House's artificial intelligence and crypto czar.

Monday night's festivities included three official balls, as well as other celebrations — like the one cohosted by Zuckerberg.

Lauren Sánchez recycled a daring outfit from her closet for Donald Trump's inauguration

  • Lauren Sánchez wore a white Alexander McQueen suit and lace bra to Trump's inauguration.
  • She previously wore the ensemble to a book event in December and at a Forbes event in September.
  • This time, she paired it with a Schiaparelli coat that retails for over $9,000.

Lauren Sánchez seems to have a favorite outfit.

For at least the third time since September, the journalist has worn a white Alexander McQueen suit with a lace bra peeking out of its blazer for a public event.

The latest outing was Donald Trump's inauguration, which she attended on Monday alongside her fiancé, Jeff Bezos.

She wore the designer outfit beneath a brushed wool and mohair coat from the Italian fashion house Schiaparelli.

The statement design costs 8,700 euros, or about $9,073, and features gold-brass buttons designed to look like nipples.

Some loved Sánchez's feminine look, while others criticized the set — specifically its visible bra, which was cut low and had small cutouts. They described it as risqué on platforms like X.

Sánchez, however, isn't one to shy away from being bold at political events. She previously wore a red, satin, and lace gown with a sheer corseted bodice at a 2024 state dinner hosted by Joe Biden in honor of Japan's prime minister at the time, Fumio Kishida.

Stylist Kelly Johnson put together the most recent ensemble, which Sánchez has worn on numerous occasions. Johnson and representatives for Sánchez did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The children's book author previously wore the outfit (minus the coat) to The New York Times DealBook event in New York City on December 5 and once earlier at the Forbes Power Women's Summit in September 2024.

At the latter event, Sánchez spoke onstage about being Bezos' fiancée, how she sees the role as a responsibility, and their work together on Bezos Earth Fund, a $10 billion effort to fight the climate crisis.

"I'm in this room with all these influential and powerful women," she said at the time. "I'm looking around and going, 'Whoa,' and it doesn't escape me that most of you know me as Lauren Sánchez, comma, Jeff Bezos' fiancée."

"I get it, but I can choose to do something, or I can choose to do nothing," Sánchez said. "And I'm choosing to do something."

Historically, women who wear white at presidential inaugurations have been recognized as making political statements.

When Hillary Clinton wore the color at Trump's first inauguration in 2017, for example, many saw her outfit as a symbol of women's suffrage.

It's unclear if Sánchez's outfit had a hidden meaning or if she just really likes her McQueen suit.

  • As the holidays approach, the ultrawealthy will decamp to some of the world's most expensive destinations.
  • Whether aboard yachts or ski lifts, the 0.01% tend to travel to familiar locales.
  • Here's a look at some of the most popular places for the rich during the holidays.

Billionaires are deploying their private jets and superyachts in preparation for the holiday season, with many headed to familiar hot spots.

Each December, the richest among us depart for expensive destinations to enjoy time with their families — and often other billionaires.

This year will be nothing different.

"It's going to places that are exclusively pretty much high net worth," Winston Chesterfield, the founder of Barton, a consulting firm focused on luxury and the wealthy, told Business Insider. "They want these private resorts away from everyone else because they don't want to be around everyone else."

Many of the world's largest yachts have already sailed to warmer waters.

Jeff Bezos' yacht Koru and Barry Diller's Eos are both floating in the Caribbean Sea, according to ship tracker Marine Traffic. Eric Schmidt's Whisper is headed to Barbados, and Len Blavatnik's Odessa II was most recently docked in Antigua.

Once their billionaire owners are aboard, several of these ships will likely make their way to St. Barths.

"I always say if you want to have your toes in the sand and eat a croissant that feels like you're in Paris, St. Barths is the place for you," Elisabeth Brown, the membership director at luxury concierge service Knightsbridge Circle, told BI.

Known for its exclusivity, fine hotels and restaurants, and natural beauty, the island has been a favorite among the uberwealthy for decades. Rockefellers and Rothschilds built estates there in the mid-1900s.

Last year, Bezos, his fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, and Michael Jordan were spotted on St. Barths, and David Geffen's superyacht, the Rising Sun, was seen nearby.

For those who don't stay on yachts, popular luxury hotels like Eden Rock and Cheval Blanc, owned by billionaire Bernard Arnault's LVMH, cost upward of $5,000 per night for a room at this time of year.

The less expensive hotels aren't exactly cheap — which is part of the appeal. A room in the least expensive hotel available for the week between Christmas and New Year's costs more than $3,000 per night.

"There is nothing mass-market about it. It's impossible to be there unless you are really wealthy," Chesterfield said.

Other superrich travelers opt for colder destinations, choosing to embrace the winter weather.

"The holidays in the mountains are more of an escape than any other holidays, even escapes to their own remote private islands and things," Chesterfield said.

In Europe, that means the Alps. Gstaad, St. Moritz, Courchevel — which was a favorite of Russian oligarchs — and Val-d'Isère are classic choices for the ultra-high net worth set, Chesterfield and Brown said.

Recently, Chesterfield said he's seen some choose quieter destinations, like Crans-Montana in Switzerland, where billionaire Vicky Safra has a home, or Kitzbühel, Austria.

"You're less likely to bump into people that you know there," he added.

Some of the very wealthy own eight-figure chalets that they rent out for as much as $40,000 a week during peak season. Real estate prices continue to rise in these locations, with homes in Gstaad, the most expensive locale, costing 41,500 euros per square meter (about $43,350), according to property consultancy Knight Frank's 2024 Alpine Index.

Buying luxury condos within resorts, like the Six Senses in Courcheval, is becoming more common, too, in large part due to the amenities, which include spas, saunas, ski valets, and concierges.

Stateside, Aspen remains the most elite ski resort.

The town has the highest density of residents worth more than $30 million in the US, according to a 2023 study by data firm Altrata. Billionaires like Steve Wynn, Daniel Och, and Terry Taylor own homes there, and in recent years, wealthy celebrities like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner have been photographed downtown during the holidays.

"It is the closest you'll get to a European après situation," Brown said. "Great mountains, great skiing, the hotels are top-notch, the restaurants are awesome."

There's a restaurant by chef Nobu Matsuhisa, designer shops like Prada and Gucci, and private clubs to make the uber-rich feel at home. Plus, there are plenty of top resorts like the St. Regis and Little Nell, where rooms cost four figures a night.

Of course, sometimes billionaires are just like us — at least kind of. One of Brown's clients is gifting their family a trip to Disney World, though it will cost more than the typical American family's vacation to Cinderella's Castle.

"It's a few days, for about seven or eight people. It'll probably end up being $75,000, give or take," Brown said.

  • Lauren Sánchez, 54, says she never expected to have so much to look forward to in life after turning 50.
  • "When I was 20, I thought, 'Oh my gosh, life is over at 50,'" she said on the "Today" show.
  • Apart from her wedding to Jeff Bezos, Sánchez also has a space flight to look forward to.

These days, Lauren Sánchez, 54, thinks that growing older is a gift.

During a "Today" show interview on Wednesday, Sánchez told hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie that she never thought she would have so much to look forward to at this point in her life.

"I never thought at 54 — I'm going to be 55 — that I'd be an author, that I'd be getting married. I mean, life is just beginning," Sánchez said. "When I was 20, I thought, 'Oh my gosh, life is over at 50.' Let me tell you: It is not, ladies. It is not over."

Sánchez also said that life "just gets better and better" as she grows older.

"When women are like, 'Oh, What is it like turning 50?' I was like, 'It's just the beginning,'" she added.

In May last year, news broke that Sánchez had gotten engaged to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The couple first went public with their relationship in 2019, shortly after Bezos and his ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott, divorced.

Although Sanchez did not share any details about when their wedding would be, she said she was "very excited" and had already started thinking about her dress.

"I do have a Pinterest, I'm just like every other bride. So I do have a Pinterest board," she said.

In addition to her wedding, Sánchez also has a flight to space to look forward to, although it is unclear when the trip will happen. She first announced her plans to go to space in 2022.

While she didn't divulge any details about the all-female crew who will be accompanying her to space, she referred to them during the "Today" interview as a group of "explorers."

"When we think of women, a lot of times we don't think of them as explorers," she said. "We think of Magellan and Jacques Cousteau, but we're explorers."

The mother-of-three shared that it was Bezos who first used the word "explorer" to describe her, and it changed the way she perceived herself and other women.

"He goes, 'You know, you're an explorer.' I was like, what? He goes, 'Yes. You're a pilot. You like to see the world,'" Sánchez said, recalling Bezo's words. "And I never thought of myself as an explorer. And when he said, 'Okay, why don't you take an incredible group of women up?' I was like, I'm picking all explorers so that they could come back and tell their story about how going to space changes them."

This isn't the first time that a high-profile individual has spoken about embracing aging.

In March, Anne Hathaway, 42, chose to do "The Idea of You" because she wanted to "tell the story of a woman blooming."

"I don't know why we don't have more stories about human beings blooming at any age. We're always coming of age, all the time," she said.

In August, Oprah Winfrey, 70, shared on the "Today" show that she wasn't worried about getting older because she wants to live in the present.

"I'm excited to make every number. I remember many, many years ago as a young girl, I had always thought that I would never make it to the 60s or 70s," Winfrey said.

A representative for Sánchez did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Business Insider outside regular hours.
