It was a tough season for the San Francisco 49ers, and with it came Brock Purdy's worst stretch as a starter.
Certainly, Purdy did not benefit from injury issues all over the offense, most notably from Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, butPurdy's numbers were worse in 2024 than last season.
He threw for roughly 400 fewer yards, went from 31 touchdowns to 20, and threw one more interception (12) than he did in 2023. After posing QB ratings of 107.3 and 113.0, it dipped to 96.1.
After missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season, though, general manager John Lynch has no plans on letting Purdy walk out the door.
"What we know about Brock is that he's our guy. We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time," Lynch told reporters on Wednesday. "He's done so much for our organization. He's won big games and had a little tougher task, as we all did this year, with some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year. We just never could string games where we were all together. And through that, he continued to lead, he continued to play at a high level, so we have every interest in him being around."
Purdy is eligible for a large contract extension – as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, his base salary this past season was less than $1 million. He could see a wild increase, as Spotrac says his market value is $59.7 million annually, which would be the largest in the league.
The site says he could be slated for a four-year deal worth nearly $239 million, which would be more than Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, Tua Tagovailoa, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff.
If he were to sign such a deal, he'd become the 14th QB in NFL history to surpass to $200 million mark, with each of the previous contracts having begun since 2020.

In November 2022, Aaron Phypers was driving his wife to work in Los Angeles when a bullet suddenly struck the back of the cab of their truck. As they kept driving, the shooter allegedly followed them, eventually blocking their vehicle in.
“It wasn’t like we got cut off. It was just all of a sudden this guy was following us,” Richards, 53, said while appearing on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live in February 2023. “He was kind of aggressive, and Aaron tried to scootch over, and he pulled over and [the shooter] pulled over.”
According to Richards, Phypers, 52, rolled down the window to confront the man.
“He put his hands up and goes, ‘I don’t know what you’re upset at. I’m just trying to take my wife to work,'” Richards recalled.
While Phypers seemingly appeared calm during the unpredictable moments, Richards said her reaction was the opposite.
“I did not handle it well,” Richards told Jeff Lewis when describing the moments she started screaming. “I was literally on the floor almost peeing my pants.”

At one point, Richards started to jump out of the truck to escape before Phypers pulled her back in for safety.
She later told the unidentified individual, “Please, I don’t know what we did, but he’s just trying to take me to work.” According to Richards, the man proceeded to roll up his window and drive away.
As Richards tried to heal from the experience, the actress was met with some Internet trolls.
When one Twitter user suggested it would be OK if Richards was injured, she replied: “I would never wish any harm on anyone. What I experienced yesterday with my husband, not that you care. Was the most terrifying situation I have ever been in. I’m sorry a shot didn’t graze my neck … a–—–.”
Since the ordeal, Richards has been able to move forward as she continues raising daughters Sami, 20, Lola, 19, and Eloise, 13.
In addition to starring in Special Forces, Richards will also appear in a new reality show focused on those closest to her.
“It’s a big glimpse into our family,” Richards told Us Weekly in December 2024.“We’re finishing up everything. I’m excited, but I’m also like, ‘Oh my gosh, everyone’s gonna see my family.’”

General Hospital is issuing a warning to viewers ahead of upcoming episodes as wildfire spreads in the Los Angeles area.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the fires currently raging in Los Angeles county,” the show’s official account shared via social media on Wednesday, January 8. “In light of current events, today’s episode of General Hospital (and several that follow) may prove too difficult to watch for some.”
A wind storm sparked brush fires on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, leading local areas to be evacuated. Several A-listers have been affected by the wildfires, with other stars voicing their support for the Los Angeles community.
“Please keep this in consideration prior to tuning in,” the message from General Hospital concluded. “Thank you for your understanding.”
The warning is referring to the latest General Hospital story line about Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) being set on fire by an explosion and screaming in pain. Two months before the scene aired, Duell, 37, announced his decision to exitGeneral Hospital after more than 14 years.
“This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life,” he wrote via Instagram in November 2024. “I’m beyond grateful to [executive producer] Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.”

Duell wrote at the time that this “isn’t a goodbye — it’s a see you later.” The following month, he opened up about his decision to walk away from the series.
“It’s a life adjustment,” he said on an episode of the “Daily Drama” podcast in December 2024. “A lot of stuff’s been going on in my life. There’s a few things behind it but one thing I did say is my dad passed away and I’m still coming to terms with that.”
Duell shared that he wanted to spend more time with partner Luana Lucci and their 16-month-old son, Dawson.
“I’m preparing myself for next chapters,” he continued. “Right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I feel like I stifled myself in certain aspects and sometimes you need to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable and that’s not what I’ve done in a long time.”
While reflecting on his run with the series, Duell said he had “a very strong comfort in this for such a long time that my identity was wrapped up in that.”
“It’s going to be a process, but kind of unraveling that and really seeing who I am and where I am now in my life,” he said. “It’s going to be a little journey. I don’t know what the future holds, but there is a lot of work I have to do to achieve the potential that I know I have. Not just career-wise, but a lot of aspects.”

Scott Disick knows first-hand the dangers of substance abuse after multiple stints in rehab, and now, he’s committed to making sure his son Mason doesn’t follow in his footsteps.
Mason, 15, is the eldest of the three kids he shares with ex Kourtney Kardashian. The former couple, who split in 2015, are also parents to daughter Penelope, 12, and son Reign, 10.
Disick, 41, appeared on the first episode of Khloe Kardashian’s “Khloe in Wonder Land” podcast on Wednesday, January 8, where he shared that he’s had those tough conversations with Mason.
“The truth is, I do explain to Mason how drinking affected me and how badly it put me in certain places,” he said. “I talk to him all the time about it.”
Disick’s ups and downs have played out publicly, starting when he first appeared on Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007. He and Kourtney dated on and off from 2006 to 2015, with his substance abuse being a point of tension throughout their relationship.
They split shortly after both of Disick’s parents died, with the added trauma exacerbating the problem. He first checked into rehab in 2014 before returning multiple times in 2015 and again in 2020.

When Khloe praised Disick for his honesty with his son, Disick added that he will treat Mason like any other kid when it comes to alcohol.
“He, for a while, thought I was going to treat him differently because of that,” Disick said of his substance abuse history. “And I said, ‘I’m not treating you any different because of my mistakes or how I lived. But if I see a problem with alcohol with you, I will take action. But other than that, you are just like every other kid. You’re going to try drinking when you’re going to try drinking, but if I see a problem that might be hereditary, then I’ll jump in. But until then, you’re treated like every other kid.'”
Khloe also speculated that Disick going through the worst of his problems in the public eye could help keep Mason from making the same mistakes.
“Maybe if he sees the outlandishness of you, like the Miami days and all that, maybe that would prevent him from drinking because he’ll see how…” she suggested.
“[He’ll say,] ‘Wow like my dad was a real d— then,’” Disick joked.
“But he also knows how incredible you are now,” Kardashian interjected. “So it’s not like you’re still like this.”
Alec Baldwin is the oldest and most known of the siblings, having been nominated for an Oscar as well as winning three Emmys and three Golden Globes. His younger brothers, Daniel Baldwin, William “Billy” Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin, have all followed in his footsteps and made a name for themselves as actors.

Their father, Alexander, died in 1983 at the age of 55. Their mother, Carol, who ran the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund, died in May 2022. She was 92.

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is hoping to set the record straight when it comes to Grace O’Malley’s alleged salary with the company prior to her exit.
“Grace went on Theo Von’s podcast and sort of insinuated like we didn’t pay her fairly, so I figured I’d just say what she made here so people can decide for themselves,” Portnoy, 47, wrote via TikTok on Tuesday, January 7. “She was in the last year of a 3-year deal.”
According to Portnoy, O’Malley’s base salary was $175,000 a year. In addition, she received 70 percent “of anything that we were able to sell on her personal socials.”
“She got another $75,000 in 2024 that way,” he also claimed. “[Her interview] could have been cut up, misconstrued a little bit, but it does bother me when people make it seem like they’re not getting paid fairly. I think we treated — as I’ve said from the beginning — Grace great.”
While appearing on the Monday, January 6 episode of the “This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von” podcast, O’Malley opened up about her experience with Barstool Sports before she signed a deal with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper‘s Unwell Network.
“I didn’t make anything when I was there. I had a salary and that was kind of it,” she alleged. “I had the option to leave and I took it.”

In response to O’Malley’s remarks, Portnoy said she was referring to her “PlanBri Uncut” podcast cohost Lapaglia, 25.
“I know she’s like, ‘My friend made a lot more.’ She’s referring to Bri,” Portnoy said. “Bri was a much bigger personality, way more followers, bigger everything, and really, obviously, Grace’s star has risen recently with the blowup and everything happening, but you know, that is why Bri got paid more.”
Portnoy also pointed out that once Barstool makes back your base salary, “we will split every dollar moving forward fifty-fifty.”
“I just don’t like it when people make it seem like we scam our creators, because we f—ing don’t,” he added, “and that’s why a lot of them have been with us for over a decade.”

Justice Samuel Alito spoke with President-elect Trump the day before the Republican leader's lawyers asked the Supreme Court to halt Friday's sentencing in his New York hush money case, the judge confirmed Wednesday.
What they're saying: Alito said in a statement first reported by ABC News that he agreed to take the call from Trump on Tuesday afternoon after his former clerk William Levi asked him to recommend him for a job in the incoming administration.
"We did not discuss the emergency application he filed today, and indeed, I was not even aware at the time of our conversation that such an application would be filed," Alito said.
"We also did not discuss any other matter that is pending or might in the future come before the Supreme Court or any past Supreme Court decisions involving the President-elect."
Why it matters: It's not unusual for justices to give job recommendations for former clerks, but the timing of the call, hours before the filing of an appeal against the conviction of what would be the first-ever criminal sentencing of a living president, drew criticism from advocates who've campaigned for more transparency in courts and raised ethics concerns.
What they're saying: Gabe Roth, executive director of the advocacy group Fix the Court, called the call "an unmistakable breach of protocol," per AP.
"No person, no matter who they are, should engage in out-of-court communication with a judge or justice who's considering that person's case."
Roth told the New York Times what made the call particularly problematic was recent ethical issues concerning the Supreme Court and especially Alito.
The other side: Carrie Severino, president of the conservative advocacy group JCN, on X called the reaction to Alito's call "the newest manufactured 'ethics' scandal over a simple reference check."
She added, "The Left is once again making up fake ethics rules as a way to smear a justice who they despise for authoring the Dobbs opinion and faithfully following the Constitution" — in reference to the Supreme Court's majority decision to overturn Roe v Wade and end federal abortion protections.
Representatives for Trump and the Supreme Court did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment in the evening.
Two of the most powerful labor groups in the country are teaming up, with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) rejoining the AFL-CIO after nearly 20 years apart.
Why it matters: Organized labor is consolidating power ahead of Donald Trump's return to office.
Where it stands: SEIU's 2 million workers will join 12.5 million represented by the AFL-CIO.
"We think we will be more powerful than ever as joint forces," AFL-CIO president Liz Shuler told Axios Wednesday afternoon.
This reunion has been in the works for nearly two years, SEIU president April Verrett said. The aim was to build enough power to organize workers and push for pro-labor policies.
"It's not a reaction to, or a statement about, Trump," she added. But with his return to the White House it is "an affirmation that we're doing the right thing and that now is the time."
Zoom in: SEIU represents many low-wage workers across its three branches — public sector employees, healthcare workers and those in building services (like janitors).
Many are immigrants, including some who are undocumented and at risk under Trump's proposed deportation policies.
"It's not just our undocumented or our immigrant workers that are worried about what a Trump administration can bring," says Verrett.
There are other issues. About half the union's members depend on Medicaid, she said. Republicans have reportedly been considering cuts to the health insurance program to pay for an extension of the 2017 tax cuts.
Zoom out: The AFL-CIO is a huge federation of unions that includes all kinds of workers, from screen actors to teachers to miners. The organization provides policy and politics support to its affiliates — so they can focus on organizing and bargaining.
Flashback: SEIU split off from the group 20 years ago, as the service sector was becoming a bigger part of the economy. The unions' leaders had a pretty tense break-up. (The Teamsters also left the AFL-CIO at the time and haven't come back.)
At the time, Democrats and union officials worried the schism would weaken the labor movement.
Though unions have seen a resurgence recently — and SEIU has had some big success, with Fight for 15 in particular — organized labor's power has diminished over the decades.
The share of the workforce that is unionized is at historic lows.
"This [reunion] means a more unified labor movement," says Patricia Campos-Medina, a former union organizer who is now executive director at Cornell's Worker Institute.
The big picture: During his campaign, Trump positioned himself as an ally to workers. Teamsters president Sean O'Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention, and he's had some influence on the transition team.
But both Shuler and Verrett were vocal supporters of vice president Kamala Harris.
"SEIU would probably have benefitted from a Harris victory, and probably feels more threatened by a Trump administration than most other unions," says John Logan, a labor historian at San Francisco State University.
Most union observers worry that the second Trump administration will follow the same sort of anti-labor roadmap as the first.
What's next: The unions will formally announce the move on Thursday afternoon in advance of a civil rights event in Austin.
