49ers' general manager drops the hammer on Brock Purdy's future after disappointing season

8 January 2025 at 20:49

It was a tough season for the San Francisco 49ers, and with it came Brock Purdy's worst stretch as a starter.

Certainly, Purdy did not benefit from injury issues all over the offense, most notably from Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, but Purdy's numbers were worse in 2024 than last season.

He threw for roughly 400 fewer yards, went from 31 touchdowns to 20, and threw one more interception (12) than he did in 2023. After posing QB ratings of 107.3 and 113.0, it dipped to 96.1.

After missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season, though, general manager John Lynch has no plans on letting Purdy walk out the door.

"What we know about Brock is that he's our guy. We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time," Lynch told reporters on Wednesday. "He's done so much for our organization. He's won big games and had a little tougher task, as we all did this year, with some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year. We just never could string games where we were all together. And through that, he continued to lead, he continued to play at a high level, so we have every interest in him being around."

EAGLES' JALEN HURTS, DEALING WITH CONCUSSION, TAKES STEP FORWARD FOR POTENTIAL PLAYOFFS RETURN

Purdy is eligible for a large contract extension – as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, his base salary this past season was less than $1 million. He could see a wild increase, as Spotrac says his market value is $59.7 million annually, which would be the largest in the league.

The site says he could be slated for a four-year deal worth nearly $239 million, which would be more than Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, Tua Tagovailoa, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff.

If he were to sign such a deal, he'd become the 14th QB in NFL history to surpass to $200 million mark, with each of the previous contracts having begun since 2020.

8 January 2025 at 09:17

Olivia Culpo, the wife of San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey, has spoken out about the tragic wildfires raging throughout the Los Angeles area that have forced thousands to evacuate their homes.

The 32-year-old model posted a message on Instagram early Wednesday morning thanking first responders as thousands of firefighters responded to multiple wildfires which seemingly broke out Tuesday evening near a nature preserve in the foothills northeast of LA.

"Praying for everyone affected by these devastating fires. Thank you to the heroes working tirelessly to protect our communities and wildlife," she wrote in a post shared to her Instagram Stories.

Culpo and McCaffrey began dating in 2019 and were engaged in April 2023. Over the summer, the couple officially tied the knot in Culpo’s home state of Rhode Island.

According to reports, they purchased a $14.5 million mansion in Los Angeles in September. The 7,000-square-foot home was previously owned by actor George Clooney, who purchased it in 1995 from Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, according to Page Six.

Culpo shared on her social media in October that she and McCaffrey are staying in a home in San Francisco during the football season.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state has deployed more than 1,400 firefighting personnel, while the Los Angeles Fire Department has made calls for all off-duty firefighters to help.

There are currently four fires burning, with the Palisades fire being the largest, having already burned 4.5 square miles.

49ers' Ricky Pearsall open to meeting with teen accused of shooting him

7 January 2025 at 05:17

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall’s rookie season started out with a scary incident as he was shot in an attempted robbery while shopping.

Pearsall missed a few games but managed to play 11 games and catch 31 passes for 400 yards. He scored three touchdowns as well. The 49ers player said Monday as he cleared out his locker room that he wanted to meet with the teen suspect who was accused of shooting him.

"I don't know how he grew up, so I can't judge him as a man just based off one action that he made," he said, via KNBR. "As violent as a crime as it was, God forbid him doing that to somebody else. I don't ever want that to happen.

"For me, just being able to forgive him at the end of the day like, I have to be able to forgive him to have that weight off my chest. At some point I do want to talk to the kid and make sure that, if I can create an impact on him in any way I think that would be really big. I think I'd be definitely open to doing that, for sure."

A 17-year-old high school senior was charged with attempted murder in the Pearsall shooting and was arraigned back in September. He also faces assault with a semiautomatic weapon and attempted second-degree robbery charges on top of other gun-related charges.

The teen’s attorney, Bob Dunlap, said at the time his client was sorry for what occurred.

"He’s genuinely very sorry that this did happen, as is his family, and I can say on their behalf, as well as on my own behalf, our thoughts go out to the Pearsall family and Mr. Pearsall himself. So there is genuine, genuine remorse in that regard," Dunlap said. "He is a young boy."

Lions' Jake Bates sends fans into frenzy over sultry clip as he sets franchise record

31 December 2024 at 08:40

Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates made two field goals, including a 57-yarder, in a win against the San Francisco 49ers as he set a franchise record.

However, the new mark was the last thing NFL fans were talking about on Monday night.

A clip of Bates stretching out went viral on social media. ESPN broadcaster Lisa Salters explained Bates was dealing with a hip issue, but the images of Bates sent fans into a frenzy. It even made Joe Buck and Troy Aikman chuckle.

The rookie was 25-of-28 on field-goal attempts this season and 60-of-63 on extra points, though he missed two against the 49ers.

LIONS TAKE DOWN 49ERS AS DAN CAMPBELL'S 'FULL THROTTLE' MINDSET SAW STARTERS PLAY ENTIRE GAME

Bates’ 135 points through 16 games topped Jason Hanson’s mark in 2012. Hanson had 135 points that season.

The former United Football League (UFL) standout played the hero multiple times for Detroit this season. He was in the UFL playing for the Michigan Panthers when he went viral for a 64-yard field goal.

He was selling bricks in Texas a year ago before he re-signed with the Panthers and eventually made his way to the NFL.

Detroit could wrap up a wild season with an NFC North title next week against the Minnesota Vikings. A win would put an exclamation point on a year in which they powered through a number of injuries on the way to the postseason.

Lions, 49ers players get into scuffle during hotly contested game

31 December 2024 at 06:05

Tensions were high in the first quarter of a Monday night game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions were looking for one more win to build momentum ahead of an NFC North title game against the Minnesota Vikings next week, while the 49ers were hoping to save face from a disastrous and injury-filled regular season that left them without a playoff berth.

So, it was no wonder that a few players got into a scuffle with emotions running high.

The 49ers started the drive with a touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Ricky Pearsall. However, before that play occurred, players from both teams were penalized for a fight.

San Francisco wide receiver Jauan Jennings and Lions defensive back Terrion Arnold got into a scuffle. Jennings blocked Arnold through into the end zone. Kerby Joseph came over and pushed Jennings into the stands while Arnold slapped the player in the helmet.

Joseph and Jennings were penalized for unnecessary roughness. Joseph apologized after the game but made clear he was going to stand up for his teammates.

"Also man, I’m going to ride for my brother, and I’m going to protect him no matter what, right or wrong, but I’m going to have his back," he said, via the Detroit Free Press. "Yeah, you don’t play that.

"No. I don’t play that, especially about my rook, man. That’s my rook. I don’t let nobody play on my rook, man. I’m the only one that get to mess him up and do whatever I do. But I don’t play that, man. I feel like I’m my brother’s keeper, man, and I feel like when my guys are in trouble, man, it’s my job to protect them."

Detroit won the game 40-34. Joseph had two interceptions – both on Purdy.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes while Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 117 yards and a touchdown.

Lions take down 49ers as Dan Campbell's 'full throttle' mindset saw starters play entire game

30 December 2024 at 20:46

The Detroit Lions technically didn’t need to win Monday night’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, begging the question of whether head coach Dan Campbell would pull his starters at some point in this game.

But, as Campbell has shown us too many times in the past, he’s never going to let up no matter the situation. And after saying it will be "full throttle" on the West Coast this week, he meant it.

The Lions took down the 49ers, 40-34, where the starters played throughout the game on both sides of the ball.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Detroit remembers well what happened in January at Levi’s Stadium, having blown a massive first-half lead in the NFC Championship Game. So, there was a bit of revenge in this one despite the 49ers being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

Jared Goff passed his way to three touchdowns, going 26-of-34 for 303 yards in another stellar performance for the Lions. He found Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown, but by far the best Lions touchdown was yet another lateral play that worked to perfection.

Earlier this season, it was St. Brown dishing it back to Jahmyr Gibbs for the score against the Arizona Cardinals. Well, the same concept was used as St. Brown caught the quick slant from Goff, but the speedy Jameson Williams came behind him and took the ball to the house on a 41-yard run.

2024-25 NFL PLAYOFF ODDS: EVERY TEAM'S ODDS TO MAKE THE POSTSEASON

At that point, it was a 14-13 game, as Brock Purdy and the 49ers’ offense were clicking well to start this game.

Purdy orchestrated three straight touchdown drives against Detroit to open it up, including a strike to rookie Ricky Pearsall on the opening drive of the game. Then, he needed just six plays on the next drive to find Kyle Juszczyk from nine yards out, and the third touchdown was a scramble by Purdy for nine yards to make it 21-13.

However, the second half saw a Lions dominance that has been felt by many teams this season. It began with a quick opening drive that saw LaPorta get in the end zone from six yards out. But, once again, the 49ers answered with a touchdown of their own, as Deebo Samuel found his way into pay dirt to retake the lead, 28-21.

This back-and-forth battle was only going to fall off the rails when one team forced the issue, and that’s exactly what Aaron Glenn’s Lions defense did after making it 28-24 with a Jake Bates field goal.

Kerby Joseph, who now leads the NFL in interceptions this season, picked off a Purdy throw that sailed over Pearsall’s head. And when Detroit creates turnovers, points usually follow.

That’s when St. Brown’s touchdown, a four-yard catch, came for the Lions, who went for it on fourth-and-goal to take a 31-28 lead. The ensuing drives saw a missed Jake Moody field goal from 58 yards out, followed by yet another Joseph interception, which gave him nine for the year.

That interception led to the nail in the coffin, as Gibbs, who rushed for 117 yards on just 18 carries, broke a 30-yard touchdown run to add to the Lions’ offensive onslaught.

Purdy was eventually injured on the final 49ers drive of the game, but backup Josh Dobbs did add to the score with a scramble touchdown run to make it a 40-34 game. But the onside kick attempt to keep the game alive was recovered by Detroit.

Looking more at the stat sheet, St. Brown led the Lions with eight receptions for 60 yards, while LaPorta finished with 64 yards on six catches.

Purdy would’ve had a brilliant performance if it wasn’t for the two interceptions, as he was 27-for-35 for 377 yards with three touchdowns. Pearsall had 141 receiving yards for the game-high on eight catches, while George Kittle matched his eight receptions for 112 yards. Jauan Jennings also finished with 67 yards on seven catches.

49ers' Brock Purdy impresses after gifting offensive lineman brand-new cars for Christmas

20 December 2024 at 07:14

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy joked last Christmas that he could not afford the traditional gifts given to the offensive linemen because of his rookie contract, but this year is a different story.

The 24-year-old signal caller surprised his teammates with quite the gift this holiday season, gifting them all brand-new cars.

"Boys, I just want to say Merry Christmas. I got some gifts for you guys — sorry for the wait, but if you want to follow me outside," Purdy said in a video shared by the team on social media.

Once outside, the team saw nine brand-new cars: five Toyota Sequoias and four Toyota Tundras.

"Oh, my God, I can’t believe this," offensive tackle Nick Zakelj said with a laugh.

"Listen to the purr," guard Aaron Banks said as he revved the engine. "Purdy, that purr is Purdy."

"My mind is blown, honestly," offensive tackle Jaylon Moore added. "This is probably the greatest gift I ever got in my life."

Last season, star running back Christian McCaffrey gifted the offensive linemen a custom golf bag, a certificate for fitted golf clubs and a bottle of tequila — a gesture usually reserved for the quarterback.

49ERS' DEOMMODORE LENOIR TORCHES SUSPENDED TEAMMATE FOR REFUSAL TO ENTER GAME: 'LOST ALL RESPECT'

"Financially, I wouldn’t be able to cover that right now," Purdy joked with reporters at the time. "Shout-out to him. Everyone loved it. So, thank you, Christian."

Purdy is still on his rookie deal, a contract that pays him $985,000 this season. However, the fourth-year quarterback is due for a massive payday.

As the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, "Mr. Irrelevant" stunned fans during his rookie season when he took over the starting role as the third-string quarterback following injuries to Trey Lance and eventually Jimmy Garoppolo.

Purdy led the team all the way to the NFC Championship before suffering a devastating injury to his throwing arm. He returned the following season to lead the Niners all the way to the Super Bowl.

Now, the 49ers are expected to lock down Purdy with a massive long-term contract extension in the offseason.

"I think Brock has done nothing but play at a very, very high level," tight end George Kittle said recently of what Purdy’s new deal might look like, per NBC Sports. "The nice thing about contracts is when you play at a high level, you can compare yourself to other people in the league and when other guys are getting paid $50-$60 million, and you’re a better quarterback than they are, it’s hard not to get that same amount of money."

49ers' Deommodore Lenoir torches suspended teammate for refusal to enter game: 'Lost all respect'

17 December 2024 at 09:21

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir torched teammate De’Vondre Campbell after the linebacker was suspended for his refusal to enter their game last week.

The 49ers suspended Campbell for three games over the incident. Lenoir did not hold back when he was asked his thoughts about it on Monday.

"When he first got signed, I was thinking in my head, like, we got another guy we can add to the defense who can contribute," Lenoir recalled, via NBC Sports Bay Area. "For that to happen, and him to do that, I just lost all respect."

Campbell had been brought onto the team in the offseason as fellow linebacker Dre Greenlaw healed up from a torn Achilles suffered in the Super Bowl.

Greenlaw returned for Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams but started to feel soreness in his Achilles in the third quarter. When the 49ers told Campbell to enter the game, he refused.

EX-NFL STAR SUGGESTS CHIEFS BENCH PATRICK MAHOMES FOR PLAYOFFS AFTER ANKLE INJURY

Lenoir said he thought it was "crazy" to quit on the team while they were in the trenches.

"I’d never be a part of something like that. I got too much love for the game, too much pride to even tell the coach I’m not going into the game," Lenoir said. "I’m a person who’s going 110% every play. So if I’m hurt and the guy behind me is not backing me up and can’t go in or don’t want to go in, I feel like that’s being a cancer to the team."

It has been one of those years for San Francisco. The team had high hopes going into the season with Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk re-signed. However, offseason turmoil seeped into the regular season with losses piling up.

The 49ers are now 6-8 and on the verge of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season.

NFL legend gives 49ers star Deebo Samuel hard truth about dropped balls

17 December 2024 at 07:02

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice called out San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel for his crucial mistakes in the team’s 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week.

Samuel had three catches for 16 yards on seven targets. He voiced his frustrations about allegedly not receiving the ball enough. Through the loss against the Rams, Samuel is third in targets with 71 and has 34 carries.

Rice dropped some hard truths in an interview with 95.7 The Game in San Francisco on Monday.

"I would’ve been p----d at myself, I would’ve been p----d at the whole scenario, and I would go to work, go to work on the football field, during practice, and if you do it during practice you’re going to be able to do it during the game," Rice said. "That ball that he dropped, after you complain about not getting that many touches? You cannot drop the football because everybody is going to get down on you, and they’re going to come after you.

"I never said anything about not getting touches or anything like that. I just worked, man. I just kept working, and if you show it during practice, they're going to make the call during the actual football game where you're going to have opportunities, where you can make catches, get into a rhythm and be productive."

Samuel, as well as the entire 49ers team, is in the midst of a down year.

He has 43 catches for 569 yards and a touchdown catch in 13 games. He also has 95 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. The numbers are among the lowest of his career and a far cry from the Pro Bowl and All-Pro season he had in 2021.

San Francisco is 6-8.

49ers suspend De'Vondre Campbell after he refused to enter game vs Rams

16 December 2024 at 12:16

The San Francisco 49ers suspended linebacker De’Vondre Campbell on Monday after he refused to enter Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers lost the game 12-6.

49ers general manager John Lynch announced the three-game suspension in a statement.

"We have suspended De'Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team. We will have no further comment on the matter," he said.

Campbell lost his starting job when Dre Greenlaw came back from the Achilles tear he suffered in a Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan wanted to put Campbell into the game because Greenlaw was aching from soreness in his Achilles tendon, Campbell refused. Shanahan said he never got an explanation about why the linebacker refused to play.

Shanahan said Friday that he didn’t expect Campbell to be with the team from Week 16 onward.

"We're working through the semantics of exactly how to deal with it," he said, via ESPN. "But I mean you guys heard from me last night, you guys heard from our players, his actions from the game, it's not something you can do to your team or your teammates and still get to be a part of our team.

"We're working through exactly the semantics of it right now, but we'll handle the situation appropriately."

Campbell signed a one-year deal with the 49ers in the offseason as Greenlaw was on the mend.

The one-time All-Pro spent the previous three years with the Green Bay Packers, a year with the Arizona Cardinals and four years with the Atlanta Falcons.

In 2023, Campbell had 75 tackles and a pass breakup.

49ers' Charvarius Ward opens up about loss of 1-year-old daughter

16 December 2024 at 06:42

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward admitted the team has had a "dark cloud" hanging over it all season long amid a spate of injuries and off-field issues.

Ward suffered his own tragedy earlier this year when his 1-year-old daughter passed away. He opened up a bit about it in an interview with The Athletic on Thursday night.

"It’s been hard for me personally to go to work every day, every game — even to practice or go to meetings," he told the outlet. "I almost left a couple of times. S---, I know fans probably hate me (for saying that), but f--- it, it’s real life. It’s bigger than football.

"This is the hardest time of my life for sure."

Ward missed three games from Nov. 10 to Nov. 24 and returned to the 49ers for their 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Dec. 1.

He announced that his daughter, Amani Joy, had passed away on Oct. 29.

"We are heartbroken that our beautiful baby girl, Amani Joy passed away on Monday morning. She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyous spirit made us smile from ear to ear. She taught us to have patience, trust, and a positive outlook on life. She showed us true strength and bravery. She overcame adversity at a young age and was always happy, lighting up every room with her smile.

"Having the privilege of being her parents and seeing the world through her eyes has changed us for the better. She will forever be daddy’s best friend and mommy’s little girl. We’ll miss you and love you forever, Amani Joy."

The San Francisco Chronicle detailed Ward and girlfriend Monique Cook’s parenthood journey earlier this year, beginning with their fear after learning their baby had Down syndrome after a blood test, and a heart defect was spotted in an ultrasound.

Ward was the optimist in this situation, telling Cook that she would be a beautiful girl, and regardless of what happened, they would love and take care of her.

Amani underwent open-heart surgery 10 months after being born, and Ward admitted that seeing his baby at night when he would lay her down to sleep just filled him with joy.

Ward, a 28-year-old undrafted free agent, is in his seventh NFL season. He began his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping the team win a Super Bowl before joining the 49ers in 2022.

The 49ers gave Ward as much time as he needed to get back.

Taylor Swift remarks on 49ers' Brock Purdy: 'He put me through a lot last February'

15 December 2024 at 13:50

Brock Purdy was maybe one or two plays away from helping the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl championship over the Kansas City Chiefs with an apparently nervous Taylor Swift in attendance.

Swift, who is dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce, made an appearance at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday and was asked whether the song "Paper Rings" was about Purdy.

"I don’t mind Brock Purdy. He put me through a lot last February. I was very stressed for a second," Swift said while signing an autograph for a child.

Purdy was 23-of-38 with 255 passing yards and a touchdown pass. The touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings in the fourth quarter put the 49ers up three points with 11:22 left in the game.

The teams traded field goals to force overtime, and San Francisco went up three early in the overtime frame. However, Patrick Mahomes got the last laugh and his 3-yard pass to Mecole Hardman gave Kansas City its championship.

For what it’s worth, Purdy was still at Iowa State when "Lover" was released to the masses. He took over as the 49ers’ starting quarterback during the 2022 season and won his first 10 regular-season starts.

Purdy has suffered through an injury this season. He has 3,174 passing yards and 15 touchdown passes in 13 games.

49ers' De'Vondre Campbell's refusal to enter game likely to lead to suspension: report

San Francisco 49ers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell stunned the NFL world on Thursday night when it was learned he refused to go into the game against the Los Angeles Rams.

On Sunday, NFL Network reported that the 49ers are likely to suspend Campbell for the remainder of the season.

Shanahan said Friday that he didn’t expect Campbell to be with the team from Week 16 onward.

Rams outlast 49ers with zero touchdowns scored in pivotal NFC West matchup

13 December 2024 at 03:49

Not a single touchdown was scored, but the Los Angeles Rams picked up a crucial NFC West victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, 12-6.

The Rams moved to 8-6, while the 49ers fell to 6-8.

Both quarterbacks, Matthew Stafford for the Rams and Brock Purdy of the 49ers, had fantastic Week 14 performances, leading many to believe that this game would be an offensive onslaught.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Instead, with some first-half rain not helping matters, both offenses were out of sync, and big defensive plays were being made to stymie some of the game’s best weapons with the ball in their hands.

The first half only saw six total points put on the board, with the 49ers’ Jake Moody nailing a 53-yard field goal on the team’s second offensive possession, and Josh Karty finally getting the Rams on the board with 1:05 left in the half to make it a 3-3 game.

All the other drives ended in punts – 11 to be exact – as the Levi’s Stadium crowd began to murmur about the lack of scoring.

CAN PLAYMAKING WR PUKA NACUA KEEP THE RAMS IN THE PLAYOFF RACE?

When the second half began, back-to-back field goals made it 6-6, though the Rams were able to be the first team in the red zone with the ball as far as the 49ers’ four-yard line. But nonetheless, no one found pay dirt.

The Rams’ were able to get their first lead of the game after forcing a three-and-out, and Puka Nacua, who had two scores and over 170 yards last game, broke out for a 51-yard catch to immediately get back in 49ers' territory.

However, Los Angeles was unable to convert from two yards out for a first down, and Karty came on again to make his third field goal of the game.

Purdy and the 49ers’ offense were dying to respond, and the signal caller took a shot deep downfield to Jauan Jennings, another receiver who scored twice in Week 14. However, veteran Darious Williams was the recipient of the pass for an interception.

With head coach Kyle Shanahan not believing his eyes about how his offense was playing, Stafford and head coach Sean McVay were looking to be methodical to churn the clock and hoped they could close out the game.

That is exactly what happened, as Stafford dissected a great 49ers defense, picking up key first downs in the pass game, while Kyren Williams chewed up yardage as well.

Karty nailed his fourth field goal with just 20 seconds left to force the 49ers to score a touchdown for the win. With not enough time left to make that happen, the Rams moved themselves into great playoff chances, while the 49ers’ hopes got even slimmer than they already were.

Looking at the box score, it was not too pretty as Stafford went 16-for-27 for 160 yards, but Nacua accounted for 97 of those on seven receptions. A shocker, though, was Cooper Kupp not catching a single pass on three targets.

Williams also tallied 108 yards on the ground on 29 carries to lead the way on those scoring drives.

For the 49ers, Purdy was 14-for-31 for 142 yards with his interception, and George Kittle was his top receiver, securing four catches for 61 yards.

It is also worth noting that Deebo Samuel Sr., who posted that he wants to get the ball more after not producing his usual amount this season, had a shaky performance in this one. He finished with just three catches for 16 yards and three yards on two carries.

Also, perhaps the game’s only touchdown would’ve come when Purdy hit Samuel right in between the numbers on a slant route with tons of open field to work with in Rams territory. However, Samuel dropped it and boos showered the field along with the rain, as 49ers fans knew what was said by their star entering this matchup.

Deebo Samuel doubles down on frustrations after social media post flagged by community notes on X

11 December 2024 at 07:42

San Francisco 49ers star wideout Deebo Samuel took to social media this week to vent about his lack of production, only to get trolled by X’s community notes. The post was later deleted, but not before creating a media frenzy.

Samuel is currently in the least productive stretch of his six-year NFL career, but the 49ers star seemingly pointed the finger at his quarterback in a post on X, writing in a post, "Not struggling at all just not getting the ball!!!!!!!"

The post, which was later deleted, was hit with a community note that read, "He leads the team in drops. He is struggling."

Ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, Samuel was asked to expand on what was said in the post and admitted feeling "frustrated."

"You read what you read. A little frustrated, for sure."

Samuel is averaging just 2.9 yards on his 32 carries and is on pace for his worst season in terms of catches and receiving yards per game with 40 receptions for 553 yards. He hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 6.

CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY’S BACKUP LANDS ON IR AS 49ERS LOSE 2 RUNNING BACKS IN ROLLER-COASTER SEASON

Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters on Tuesday, explaining that he understands "Deebo saying that."

"Deebo wants to help us out and the only way he helps us out is getting the ball more, and we’d like to get it to him more and we’ll continue to work at that."

Shanahan added that he wished Samuel would’ve kept the issue offline, but said the incident is "water under the bridge."

Brock Purdy, who seemed to be the subject of Samuel’s post, echoed that sentiment.

"Deebo and I talk all the time and he’s like one of my best friends on this team. I absolutely love Deebo and what he’s done for me and helping me out," the quarterback said Tuesday.

"I think he’s right. He’s doing great right now with what we ask of him in the offense. And he is not struggling or anything. It’s just, like I’ve said before about guys like Ricky [Pearsall] or last year with Aiyuk for a little bit. There’s just moments, I guess, throughout seasons where guys just don’t get the ball, just depending on the scheme or what the defensive scheme is and them taking guys away. So, I want to get Deebo the ball every play if I could. I want to have him break all the records as best as possible. I want Deebo to do Deebo things and we all do in this building. So, that’s just how the games have gone. But I love my guy and I’m going to do everything I can to give him the ball."

Christian McCaffrey’s backup lands on IR as 49ers lose 2 running backs in roller-coaster season

2 December 2024 at 14:39

Just as the San Francisco 49ers confirmed Christian McCaffrey suffered a season-ending PCL injury in the loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, his backup is also heading to injured reserve.

Jordan Mason, who filled in admirably for McCaffrey as he dealt with Achilles tendinitis in both his ankles at the start of the season, will miss at least the next four games due to a high-ankle sprain also suffered in the blowout loss to the Bills

The 49ers have no choice but to turn to rookie Isaac Guerendo to be their lead running back for what could possibly be the rest of the season with just five games remaining.

For McCaffrey, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that his star could "potentially" be out for the remainder of the season.

"I think PCL is usually a couple weeks, but I’m not exactly sure yet," Shanahan said prior to learning that it’s six weeks for him to heal with not that many games remaining on the schedule.

JOSH ALLEN MAKES NFL HISTORY AS BILLS CLINCH AFC EAST WITH WIN OVER 49ERS IN DRIVING SNOW

At 5-7 after losing three straight, the 49ers are grasping at straws hoping they can go on a run to end the year and get back into the playoffs.

But they currently sit in last place in the NFC West, though the division-leading Seattle Seahawks are only 7-5.

Considering that a running game is crucial for Shanahan’s offense to work, he will be asking a lot of his rookie running back to carry a workload that San Fran was hoping McCaffrey could do after healing his Achilles injuries.

McCaffrey had 53 rushing yards on seven attempts and two catches for 14 yards before leaving the game on his own power. During one of those runs, he slid after feeling something wasn’t right.

McCaffrey has played in just four games this season, rushing for 202 yards with no touchdowns on the ground nor through the air.

As for Mason, he broke out earlier this season, rushing for more than 100 yards in three of his first four games as the lead back with McCaffrey hurt. He slowed down a bit but has still smashed his career highs with 789 yards and three touchdowns.

Guerendo, a fourth-round pick out of Louisville, has tallied 246 yards and two touchdowns on 42 rush attempts over 12 games thus far.

"It’s been extremely hard trying to process the saddest Hello and Goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure," she wrote. "Last Sunday night on 11/24/24; I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz 18.5 in long little body at 11:38pm. At only 35 weeks, your impactful and quick arrival didn’t even give mommy time to get an epidural. I’m so grateful to have had your Aunt Katina (who also cut your cord) and nurse Hannah by my side.

"As much as I tried to prepare myself for our meeting, I wasn’t prepared nor would I ever be. After losing your twin early in the pregnancy, I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 wasn’t true and wouldn’t be the fate of my long awaited beautiful Son-shine. My firstborn and only son, I’ve always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you more. Knowing you are in Heaven with your Great-Aunt Vivian and that you will Always be our Guardian Angel brings me great comfort in the midst of all this sorrow. My heart is heavy. Being home without you in my arms has been quite an adjustment. Knowing I will never be able to watch you grow older alongside your sisters has my eyes filled with tears."

Williams recalled the indescribable feeling of leaving the hospital.

49ERS' CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY SUFFERED 'POTENTIALLY' SEASON-ENDING KNEE INJURY VS BILLS, COACH SAYS

"I can’t even begin to describe how I felt leaving the hospital without you. Nor how it feels being home celebrating Thanksgiving without my baby in my arms. My heart is broken and my arms are empty. But I know you’ll always be near watching over me and your sisters. And for that, my heart smiles with gratitude.

"Thank God for allowing us to bond for 35 weeks and for me to birth you so I could hold you in my arms. I’m at peace knowing you will never have to suffer. Although I will never hear your soft coos and cries or see those beautiful little eyes staring up at me, I am grateful to God for the time I shared with you. Madison loved listening to your heartbeat and watching your waves of movement in my tummy. Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr., my sweet baby boy, we love you our Forever Angel!"

Trent Williams missed Sunday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

49ers' Christian McCaffrey suffered 'potentially' season-ending knee injury vs Bills, coach says

2 December 2024 at 09:30

San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey left Sunday night’s 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury, but it appeared to be much worse than that.

McCaffrey is believed to have suffered a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury and could "potentially" see his season come to an end, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said.

"I think PCL is usually a couple weeks, but I’m not exactly sure yet," he added.

The running back was a focal point of the 49ers’ game plan early against the Bills. As the snow came down on the field at Highmark Stadium, McCaffrey ran the ball seven times and was targeted three times through the air.

He had 53 rushing yards and two catches for 14 yards before he left the field.

It was a crushing blow to a team that has been riddled with injuries on both sides of the ball. The snow made matters much worse for San Francisco. Brock Purdy had only 94 passing yards on 18 attempts.

"He’s one of the best running backs in the league," Purdy said of McCaffrey. "When you lose him like that, I think it takes away just sort of how we do some things in the offense."

Shanahan said he believed McCaffrey hurt himself after getting tackled after an 18-yard run in the second quarter. He went down a few plays later.

"It looked like he just got shoe-stringed there, he was about to break a house call," Shanahan said. "It was frustrating. He had a great week of practice. I could feel his urgency and stuff. Thought he came out great, looking real good."

McCaffrey has been on the shelf for most of the season. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year missed the first eight games of the season with Achilles tendinitis.

In the four games he has played, he has 202 rushing yards as well as 15 catches for 146 yards. He has not scored this season.

Josh Allen makes NFL history as Bills clinch AFC East with win over 49ers in driving snow

1 December 2024 at 20:12

Josh Allen made every play a quarterback could make and more.

Fresh off his engagement to pop star Hailee Steinfeld, Allen had to deal with the driving lake-effect snow that plagued the Buffalo area over the holiday weekend and into Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

Allen definitely had more pep in his step as the Bills took down the 49ers, 35-10. Buffalo also clinched the AFC East division for the fifth straight season.

The superstar quarterback got into the scoring column with a 7-yard pass to wide receiver Mack Hollins before halftime. Buffalo had a 21-3 lead going into the locker room but were far from finished.

Allen was credited for a receiving touchdown in the third quarter after Amari Cooper lateralled the pass from Allen back to the quarter, who then ran in for a score. Allen officially had zero catches but seven receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.

To cap off the night, Allen ran for an 8-yard score in the fourth quarter to put the game completely out of reach. Mitchell Trubisky took over from there.

STEELERS TIE NFL RECORD WITH 21 CONSECUTIVE NON-LOSING SEASONS AFTER WIN OVER BENGALS

Allen became the first NFL quarterback to throw for a touchdown, run for a touchdown and catch a touchdown in a single game since the merger, the team said.

He had 148 passing yards on 13 completions as well has 18 rushing yards.

Bills running backs James Cook and Ray Davis also were able to get on the board. Cook had a 65-yard touchdown run while Davis had a 5-yard touchdown scamper. Cook had 107 rushing yards on the night and Davis had 59.

The 49ers had no answer to the Bills’ offense the entire night. Players didn’t appear to get any type of feel for the snowy conditions as they were slipping and sliding across the surface.

San Francisco’s best hope was to get Christian McCaffrey every possible opportunity. But the running back suffered a knee injury in the first half and never returned.

Brock Purdy was under 100 yards passing. He was 11-of-18 with 94 passing yards. He was sacked twice. Isaac Guerendo scored San Francisco’s lone touchdown.

Buffalo is now on a seven-game winning streak and have 10 wins on the season.

San Francisco fell to 5-7 and it looked like their season was about to slip away.

NFL fans help clear snow from Bills' stadium ahead of game vs 49ers: 'Ready for football'

1 December 2024 at 16:42

The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night as wicked weather plagued the New York area and covered Highmark Stadium in snow.

Fans did their best to shovel out the snow as kickoff neared. Photos showed several people embarking on the task of trying to clear the snow from seats, walkways and the field.

The game was still set to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET.

"Ready for football," the Bills wrote on X.

Lake effect snow pounded western New York, south of Buffalo, with as much as three feet of snow, according to Fox Weather.

Parts of Interstate 90 were forced to shut down because of the storm that moved across parts of Ohio and into Eric County, Pennsylvania.

New York State Department of Transportation workers did their best to clear roads around Highmark Stadium.

"NYSDOT forces have been doubling up on plow beats in and around the stadium since last night on Route 20, Route 20A, Route 219, Route 5, and Route 179," the agency wrote on X. "Tow trucks will be on standby to clear vehicles quickly and ensure traffic keeps moving.

"Go Bills!"

Another one to two feet of snow was possible for western New York and another two to three feet of snow was possible for areas in northern New York, according to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office.
