Bills recruit NBA legend Allen Iverson for creative NFL schedule release

NFL schedule release videos are always fun to see each year, and the Buffalo Bills are always among the teams thinking outside the box.

This year, the Bills had the ultimate play on words when their video began with general manager Brandon Beane calling MVP quarterback Josh Allen, asking if he had any ideas for how to release the schedule.

"Just use AI," Allen told Beane. "That’s what everybody’s doing."

Artificial intelligence has become a useful tool, but what Allen was doing to start the video hinted at how Beane took his suggestion.

Allen was shooting basketballs instead of throwing footballs, and Beane channeled a different AI.

BILLS GM BRANDON BEANE PRAISES ‘HUMBLE’ HAILEE STEINFELD, REVEALS ONE WISH FOR JOSH ALLEN'S WEDDING

Beane called NBA Hall of Fame point guard Allen Iverson, nicknamed "AI."

"Yeah, I don’t know what I’m doing," Iverson told Beane over a web call. "Why am I here?"

"We do want you to reveal the Buffalo Bills’ 2025 schedule," Beane replied.

Iverson liked that Allen was the player who gave Beane the idea, though he did ask if the quarterback meant using artificial intelligence.

"You’re the only AI I know," Beane answered.

So, Iverson obliged and was happy to do so. He held up a piece of paper with all 17 games and the bye week listed.

While Iverson did the schedule release, he wasn’t thrilled with Beane's final request.

"Can I get a ‘Go Bills?’" Beane asked.

"Go Josh Allen," Iverson, a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, replied with a smile.

Buffalo opens its 2025 campaign on "Sunday Night Football," facing the Baltimore Ravens at home. Another notable game is a Nov. 2 rematch of the AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 at 4:25 p.m. at home.

Bills GM Brandon Beane praises 'humble' Hailee Steinfeld, reveals one wish for Josh Allen's wedding

It’s all about love in the city of Buffalo.

Bills general manager Brandon Beane gushed over the relationship between Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld in a recent interview, suggesting that the two stars are a match made in heaven. The Bills executive also revealed his hopes for the pair’s upcoming nuptials.

During an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show" on Tuesday, Beane was asked about Allen’s $330 million contract extension, which the Bills got done in March, and if the new deal meant that Beane could forgo sending a gift off the wedding registry.

"That’s a good one, I’m going to remind my wife of that one – don’t overspend on the registry," Beane responded with a laugh before adding, "Hopefully there’s good booze at the wedding."

He went on to joke that Allen might not "even notice what I brought him with all the zeros he’s got on [contract]."

Allen and Steinfeld got engaged somewhere on the California coastline in November after first being linked to one another in the spring of 2023. The couple has remained relatively private about their relationship, but Steinfeld first made a red carpet appearance with Allen at the NFL Honors in February.

Beane gave the couple his stamp of approval on Tuesday, when he also praised Steinfeld.

"She is as humble as they come," he said. "She's done a lot of stuff with our local women – the wives, girlfriends of the club, and I've heard it not only from my wife, but some of the other [women], just how down-to-earth she is for the success she's had. She just blends right in.

"It’s a testament to her and to Josh – he’s the same exact way."

It isn’t known when the two plan to tie the knot, but Allen’s teammate Dion Dawkins reportedly revealed during a TV interview in March that it would be at the end of May 2025.

Bills GM Brandon Beane calls out Buffalo sports radio hosts for NFL Draft critique: 'You guys are b----ing'

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane had a problem with sports radio hosts in the area during an appearance on Monday morning, and he didn’t hold back his thoughts while on the air.

WGR 550 Buffalo Sports Radio had Beane in the building post-NFL Draft, and co-hosts Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase suggested before the segment with Beane that the team missed by not drafting a wide receiver.

Well, Beane heard them and decided to air out that opinion for all to hear.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

"I was just listening to the last few minutes of your show waiting to come on, and it sounds like 2018 all over with you guys," Beane said. "You guys were b----ing in 2018 about Josh Allen, you guys wanted Josh Rosen, and now you guys are b----ing that we don’t have a receiver."

It’s obvious now that Beane smashed the 2018 draft by taking Allen, the league’s most recent MVP, with their first-round pick. Rosen flamed out as the Arizona Cardinals’ first-round selection as the organization eventually chose Kyler Murray to lead the team at quarterback.

2025 NFL DRAFT GRADES: ANALYZING ALL 32 TEAMS' CLASSES

"I don’t get it," Beane continued. "We just scored 30 points in a row for eight straight games. A year ago, I get you guys asking why we didn’t have receivers, but I don’t understand it now.

"You just saw us lead the league in points, when you add all the postseason. No one scored more points than the Buffalo Bills, including the Super Bowl champions. You just saw us do it without Stefon Diggs, same group. How is this group not better than last year’s group?"

Beane’s argument has evidence as the Bills’ run in the postseason gave them the most points of any team in the league last season. During the regular season, only the Detroit Lions had more points averaged per game (33.2 compared to the Bills’ 30.9).

The Bills also had the ninth-best pass attack in the league, averaging 227.9 yards through the air per game with Allen at the helm.

While Diggs, Allen’s trusty receiver of the past, was playing for the Houston Texans after a preseason trade, players like Khalil Shakir and second-round pick Keon Coleman stepped up to make plays in the pass game.

White, though, didn’t want listeners to take their comments the wrong way.

"Don’t let it be the lie that we spent the day railing the Bills GM for not taking a receiver," he said. "That’s not what happened today. We talked about building their defense, the front seven … I thought they would’ve gone receiver earlier … [Beane] heard us bring that up and got mad about it."

The Bills waited until the seventh round to take a receiver: Kaden Prather out of Maryland.

Most of the nine draft picks were used for defense, including first-rounder Maxwell Hairston out of Kentucky with the 30th overall selection. Beane took three cornerbacks, two defensive tackles and edge rusher Landon Jackson.

Jim Kelly reflects on why he 'decided to change my life' and turn to faith

Jim Kelly grew up going to church mostly because his parents made him – but those Sunday visits turned out to be a precursor to how he lives his life today.

The Hall of Fame quarterback is a devout Christian, but it took a long while for him to get to that point.

In fact, even as he began to rely on his faith, God "tested" him, he said on a recent podcast.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Kelly, of course, lost four Super Bowls in his career, but that pales in comparison to his four cancer battles and losing his son, Hunter, at the age of 8 in 2005.

"I even got to a point, it would drive me crazy, I said to my wife, ‘If being a Christian is being like you, I don’t want to be one.' I was mad at God. I was like, ‘Man, you put me through all this? I can’t handle this,'" Kelly said on "Grace Begins"

While his son was sick with a fatal globoid-cell leukodystrophy, Kelly was working as a football analyst and "away from home a lot."

"To be honest with you, it was a tough part of my life, not only for me, but for me and my wife. It was a struggle. We weren't getting along… Me and my wife lost interest in each other," said Kelly, who admitted he was unfaithful.

NFL GREAT STEVE 'MONGO' MCMICHAEL DEAD AT 67 AFTER ALS BATTLE

"Unfortunately, it got to a point where my mother-in-law confronted me and said, ‘If you don’t change your life, you're going to lose everything.' And she was right. I manned up, I said, ‘I’m gonna lose everything.' So, I changed my life… I totally admitted everything."

Kelly said God "threw every curveball at me," but for good reason.

"I know why he put me through all that – to test my faith and if I'm ever going to give up on Him. And there's no way. He's the reason I'm still here, but my wife, my daughters, and the life I live now, I thank God every day for it."

Kelly actually said he "didn't want to hear" about religion, adding that it was "getitng forced on me" by his fellow NFL players. So, he gave advice to those who may want to help others find their faith.

"If you want to change someone's life, don't throw it on them. They'll come around on their time. If you keep throwing it and forcing them into it, you're gonna scare them away. That's what happened to me early on, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted it. I took it slow, my wife did such a great job, she knew when to talk to me about it and when not to. She slowly brought me into it, and here I am now."

Kelly has been cancer-free since 2019.

Mystery remains over cause of death of former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis

The cause of death for former NFL Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis was reportedly undetermined more than a year after he died at a Florida home. He was 35.

Davis’ body was found at a home registered to his grandmother in Southwest Ranches, Florida, WSVN-TV reported. No foul play was suspected, police said at the time.

"Due to the totality of the circumstances, including inconsistencies between the scene and the findings at autopsy, the cause and manner of death in this case is best classified as undetermined," according to ESPN, which cited the Broward County Medical Examiner’s report.

The report noted that Davis had abrasions near his right eye and a hemorrhage in the muscles of his back. A toxicology report also indicated the former defensive back had substances in his system, including amphetamines or methamphetamines.

The Miami Dolphins selected Davis in the first round of the 2009 draft. He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts before the start of the 2012 season, and he had a few great seasons with them.

NFL GREAT TERRY BRADSHAW CLARIFIES ROLE IN OPENING JAMMED PLANE DOOR AFTER CLAIMS OF HEROISM

He joined the Buffalo Bills after the 2017 season and only made one appearance for them, retiring in the middle of a game.

In 121 games, Davis had 22 interceptions and 395 tackles. He was named to the Pro Bowl while with the Colts in 2014 and 2015.

Former NFL star tight end Vernon Davis, Vontae’s brother, released a heartbreaking statement at the time of his death.

"This thing definitely caught me by surprise. I just don't know what to make of it," Vernon told the Daily Mail at the time. "I'm leaning on the detectives to figure it out, but, right now, we have no answers.

"They are going to run tests, and they said they'll get back to us. It could be as long as a month, a month and a half, until we know anything."

Hailee Steinfeld struggles to say nice things about one of fiancé Josh Allen's bitter rivals

Hailee Steinfeld complimented the Kansas City Chiefs without complimenting them.

Steinfeld, 28, was asked to say three nice things about the Chiefs, her fiancé Josh Allen’s AFC rival, in a recent interview.

"Anger the Bills Mafia by saying three nice things about their rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs," actor Michael B. Jordan asked of Steinfeld during a recent episode of "Hot Ones Versus."

"I can find nice things to say about anybody, even if I don’t like them, even if we don’t like them," Steinfeld replied.

The Chiefs have eliminated the Buffalo Bills from the playoffs four of the last five seasons. One of those losses was the AFC championship game last season, which the Chiefs won 32-29.

The sting of the playoff losses made it difficult for Steinfeld to come up with kind things to say about the football team, so the Oscar-nominated actress went in a different direction.

"Yellow and red really complement them all pretty well. They are very loud. … It’s great. You want that from a fan base," Steinfeld said.

"They go hard for their team," Steinfeld added, providing her third and final nice thing to say.

Steinfeld’s answer made her and Jordan burst out laughing before they moved on.

Allen and Steinfeld got engaged somewhere on the California coastline in November after first being linked in the spring of 2023. The couple has remained relatively private about their relationship, but Steinfeld made a red carpet appearance with Allen at the NFL Honors last month.

While the Bills fell short of their ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl, Allen had the best season of his career. The 28-year-old quarterback was named league MVP after he combined for 41 touchdowns while throwing a career-low six interceptions.

Super Bowl champion Matt Stevens dead at 51, family says

Former NFL defensive back Matt Stevens has died, his family announced. He was 51.

According to an obituary, Stevens died on March 20. A cause of death was not immediately provided.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Stevens age 51, beloved son and father," the obituary stated.

Stevens had resided in Durham, North Carolina, since retiring from football in 2003.

Stevens rose to football stardom at Appalachian State, where he became a two-time All-American. He is a member of the App State Athletics Hall of Fame.

The football program expressed condolences to Stevens' loved ones.

The Buffalo Bills selected Stevens in the third round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He recorded a career-high six regular-season interceptions in 1999 when he played for Washington.

Stevens played for the New England Patriots in 2001. He was a member of the Patriots' Super Bowl XXXVI-winning team. The Patriots' 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams marked the first Super Bowl title in the franchise's history and kicked off New England's dynasty.

Stevens ultimately had stints with five NFL teams.

Stevens was in a motorcycle accident in 2007 and was paralyzed from the waist down as a result. Several years later, he used special braces that allowed him to regain his ability to walk.

A memorial service for Stevens is scheduled for Friday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Stevens is survived by "his mother, Jean Thillberg, his father Vincent Stevens, his brother Mark Stevens and his children Cassidie and Colin Stevens of Avon by the Sea, New Jersey, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins," according to the obituary.

Bills’ Josh Allen quips back at reporter over ring upgrade question after lucrative contract extension

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was seemingly caught off guard during his first press conference with the media since signing a lucrative six-year contract extension after he was asked if the new deal meant he was going to upgrade Hailee Steinfeld’s engagement ring.

Fresh off his MVP season, Allen signed a $330 million contract extension with a record $250 million guarantee earlier this week that will likely grant the veteran quarterback his hope of finishing his career in Buffalo.

The deal made Allen among the highest paid players in the NFL – but not the highest.

"It’s weird to say this, but what is $5 million more going to do for my life that I can’t already do right now. It’s not that crazy to me," Allen said Wednesday. "I was like, if it has any impact on the cap, let’s figure out a way to not do that."

But more eyebrow-raising than the number on the contact was one reporter’s question to Allen about whether the new deal meant he would upgrade his fiancée’s engagement ring.

"A bigger ring, you said?" Allen chuckled in apparent disbelief. "No, I think she likes the one she’s got."

Allen and Steinfeld got engaged somewhere on the California coastline in November after first being linked to one another in the spring of 2023. The couple has remained relatively private about their relationship, but Steinfeld made a red carpet appearance with Allen at the NFL Honors last month.

"I’m so grateful for what’s going on in my life and finding the person that I want to share it with," Allen said Wednesday. "When you have that piece figured out, it seems like everything else kind of comes a little bit easier."

Allen finished off one of his most memorable seasons by being named the 2024-2025 NFL MVP.

Despite missing out on the Super Bowl, he combined for 41 touchdowns, including one receiving, with a career-low six interceptions in a 13-win season.

Bills agree to terms with five-time Pro Bowler Joey Bosa on 1-year contract: reports

Joey Bosa is moving from one AFC contender to another.

Bosa, 29, agreed to terms with the Buffalo Bills on a one-year, $12.6 million contract on Tuesday after being released by the Los Angeles Chargers last week for salary cap reasons, per numerous reports.

The Chargers selected Bosa with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 out of Ohio State, and Bosa recorded 72 sacks over his nine seasons with the Chargers.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Bosa’s 72 sacks are tied for 10th most since 2016, but he’s combined for only 14 over the past three seasons as the Ohio State product was hampered by injuries.

The five-time Pro Bowler played 14 games last season and had five sacks, 22 total tackles, and two forced fumbles. His five sacks were his fewest in the six seasons during which he played at least 12 games.

The Bills released pass-rusher Von Miller on Sunday, opening a void in the defense that they filled with Bosa.

DEANDRE HOPKINS, RAVENS AGREE TO 1-YEAR DEAL FOR STAR RECEIVER'S 13TH NFL SEASON: REPORTS

Miller spent three seasons with the Bills after signing a six-year, $120 million contract prior to the 2022 season, but didn’t live up to expectations.

Miller had eight sacks in 11 games in 2022 but tore his ACL on Thanksgiving and ended his season.

The following season, Miller returned and played in 12 games but did not register a sack.

Last season, Miller played 13 games but did not start one as he was used as a rotational pass-rusher and had six sacks in a limited role.

The Bills finished 18th in the NFL with 39 sacks last season and will rely on Bosa to help bolster their pass rush.

Bills' Josh Allen agrees to 6-year extension with record-setting guarantee: reports

The Buffalo Bills are rewarding Josh Allen for his MVP 2024 season by making him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

The Bills and Allen agreed to a six-year extension, which the team announced on Sunday. The deal keeps him in Buffalo through the 2030 season as its franchise quarterback.

ESPN reports the deal is worth a $330 million extension, which includes $250 million fully guaranteed, making it the largest guarantee ever given to an NFL player in history.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Allen’s extension comes after winning his first MVP Award, as he threw for 3,731 yards with 28 touchdowns to six interceptions, while rushing for 531 yards and 12 scores over 17 games. He became the only NFL player to ever throw for at least 25 touchdowns, rushing for at least 10 touchdowns, and give up fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season.

The Bills went 13-4 in the regular season but ultimately fell to the Kansas City Chiefs again in the AFC Championship Game.

Allen had four years remaining on his current deal with the Bills, but they nixed that to make sure he was compensated fairly. The six-year extension pays out $55 million per season, tying him with Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love, and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence at the same price tag.

DION DAWKINS: BILLS ‘WOULD'VE PUT ON A BETTER SHOW' THAN CHIEFS IN SUPER BOWL

Only Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ($60 million) gets paid more per season over his extension.

Since being taken seventh overall by Buffalo in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen has led the Bills to six straight AFC East titles, while quickly cementing himself as one of the best quarterbacks in today’s game.

Allen is known as much for his legs as he is for his arm, scoring 65 total rushing touchdowns since entering the league. But he’s thrown for 195 touchdowns to 84 interceptions, the latter of which being something he really tried to cut down on in 2024, and it worked.

Allen’s lowest interception total for his career was during the 2018 campaign, when he gave up nine picks. Throwing just six this season, compared to his career-high 18 in 2023, was one of many goals he checked off.

Speaking of goals, it was clear Buffalo was trying to shore up their cornerstone pieces this offseason, and Allen is the latest and biggest one thus far.

The Bills also gave a four-year, $80 million extension to edge rusher Greg Rousseau, paid Allen’s favorite target in 2024, Khalil Shakir, a four-year, $53 million extension, and made sure linebacker Terrel Bernard was compensated properly with a four-year, $50 million extension that keeps him away from free agency.

The Bills are gearing up for another season, where they not only want to make it seven in a row for the AFC East crown, but finally make that first Super Bowl appearance since 1993. They came so close again last year, but getting past the Chiefs is something Allen has yet to do in the postseason in four appearances.

It’s not hard to realize that’s the ultimate goal heading into 2025, but the Bills made sure their franchise quarterback can worry about that alone, as financials are more than settled moving forward.

Dion Dawkins: Bills 'would've put on a better show' than Chiefs in Super Bowl

After watching the Kansas City Chiefs’ poor performance in last month's Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles, one Buffalo Bills star says his squad would have had a "better chance" at winning.

Kansas City had a letdown game in New Orleans, losing 40-22, and the score didn’t necessarily reflect the overall outing the team had. The Eagles were dominant on both sides of the ball before allowing 16 points in the fourth quarter with the game already out of reach.

To get to their third straight Super Bowl, the Chiefs had to get through the Bills yet again, and they did the job at home despite it coming down to the wire in the end.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

After watching what the Chiefs did, Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins is confident his team would’ve done much better against Philadelphia.

"We would’ve put on a better show in the Super Bowl," Dawkins told "The Pivot Podcast."

Dawkins was in New Orleans for Super Bowl week and attended the game at the Caesars Superdome.

TRAVIS KELCE HAS A ‘BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH’ AFTER ANALYZING CHIEFS' SUPER BOWL FILM: ‘LET MY GUYS DOWN’

While he accepted another postseason loss to the Chiefs, Dawkins was confident in assessing how it all went down.

"Now, after going to the Super Bowl and seeing it and feeling those emotions, not to say that we would’ve just went in there and beat the Eagles. We would’ve had a chance," Dawkins explained. "We would’ve had a better chance."

Dawkins has been with the Bills eight seasons and has the important job of protecting MVP quarterback Josh Allen’s blindside. He was a second-round pick out of Temple in 2017.

With the Bills, Dawkins has experienced success during the regular season, leading to playoff berths in all but one of his seasons.

However, the Chiefs have knocked them out of the playoffs four different times. All four of those have come in the last five seasons.

Allen and the Bills’ offense were unable to come back at Arrowhead Stadium once again as the Chiefs’ defense came up clutch, and Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense got the necessary first downs to ice the victory.

Buffalo must first reach the Super Bowl to test Dawkins' theory.

And it’s likely the Chiefs will continue to be a team the Bills have to go through to make that happen.

Khalil Shakir, Bills agree to 4-year contract extension

25 February 2025 at 13:01

The Buffalo Bills aren’t letting wide receiver Khalil Shakir go anywhere.

The team announced on Tuesday that they signed the 25-year-old wide receiver to a four-year contract extension that runs through 2029.

Shakir’s contract is worth up to $60.2 million, with $32 million guaranteed at signing per ESPN.

Shakir was star quarterback Josh Allen’s top target last season, as he led the team in targets (100), receptions (76), and receiving yards (821).

The sure-handed wide receiver dropped just one pass last season and was a threat with the ball in his hands as he was third in the NFL in yards after the catch with 597.

The only two players who had more yards after the catch are Cincinnati Bengals superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase (787) and Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane (665).

EAGLES' VIC FANGIO CHIDED DEFENSE FOR ALLOWING 22 POINTS IN SUPER BOWL LIX 2ND HALF, LINEBACKER SAYS

In the Bills' three playoff games, Skakir caught 18 of his 20 targets for 174 yards.

The 2022 fifth-round pick out of Boise State has seen an uptick in his production year after year. In his rookie year, Shakir caught 10 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown in 14 games.

In 2023, Shakir started to become a bigger part of the offense, and finished with 39 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns.

The 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver might not be a true No. 1 wide receiver, but Shakir is at the very least a strong No. 2 wide receiver who has a solid connection with Allen.

Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel are among other wide receivers who are under contract for the Bills next season.

Hailee Steinfeld roasts Bills' divisional rivals: 'Three sons'

20 February 2025 at 13:37

It appears Hailee Steinfeld has fully ingratiated in football trash talk.

Steinfeld became engaged to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen late last year. And even though she’s rarely shown on television at games, it doesn’t mean she’s not invested in the NFL MVP’s or the team’s performance. She showed in a recent interview that she can dish out some banter.

The actress/singer played a game with WhoWhatWear and one of the questions was to name each of the teams in the AFC East.

LIONS' JAMESON WILLIAMS WON'T BE DISCIPLINED BY NFL AFTER FACING ARREST IN GUN-RELATED INCIDENT: REPORT

The Bills have won the AFC East in each season since 2020, which coincided with the year that Tom Brady left the New England Patriots and joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Allen has come into his own since then as well. In 2019, the Bills were 23rd in points scored and 24th in yards gained. Since then, the team has not finished outside of the top 10 in either category.

The Bills, however, have yet to get to a Super Bowl in the Allen era. Buffalo lost in the AFC title game in 2020 and 2024. The team lost three consecutive times in the divisional round in between conference championship appearances.

Allen and Steinfeld got engaged in November. The two had been dating since 2023.

Bosa was seen wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat after a game and even did Trump’s dance as a sack celebration.

"I think you know the answer to that question," Bosa said in November about what inspired him to do the move, via the San Francisco Chronicle. "All the guys wanted me to do it. I wasn’t even going to do it, but the boys reminded me. And it was fun."

Trump was at Super Bowl LIX to watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs. He picked the Chiefs to win the game, but it was the Eagles who eventually came out on top.

The president was also at the Daytona 500 and could complete the sporting trifecta should he show up at the 4 Nations Face-Off final in Boston later this week.

Bills offensive lineman retires at age 26 due to nerve damage from latest injury

14 February 2025 at 17:56

Tommy Doyle is now a former football player at the age of 26.

The Buffalo Bills offensive lineman announced Friday he's retiring due to "permanent" injuries.

Doyle has not appeared in a game since Week 3 of the 2022 season, and an injury he sustained during the 2023 preseason left him with nerve damage.

"At this point, with the calendar and the healing process, it looks as though it's permanent. I'm just unable to play football at a high level, and it's time. When you know, you know," Doyle said.

Doyle tore an ACL in 2022.

"I was really battling and competing and working to come back from that injury, only to be kind of struck with an even more disastrous injury," Doyle said. "But, at the end of the day, there was a lot of negative emotions and anger. … Doing a lot of reflecting lately and looking back on it, I've learned a lot of valuable lessons from it.

"Football is something that I've loved and put my life into. And I put a lot of time, effort and energy to try to get back on the field. But, ultimately, that's really not the plan God has for me, and I know that to be true. I feel that this is the time to announce it and move on.

"I think what I will remember most is just the relationships formed with the guys on the team, with the coaches, with the trainers, with the fans. It's an amazing town. It's an amazing city. The fan base is awesome. Throughout my four years playing in Buffalo, just the different locker rooms and how tight-knit it was, was something truly special."

Doyle was a fifth-round pick out of Miami of Ohio in 2021. In his rookie season, during the wild-card round against the New England Patriots, he caught a touchdown.

NFL fans intervene after restaurant owned by Eagles' CJ Gardner-Johnson's mom hit by unwarranted bad reviews

12 February 2025 at 03:51

Del Johnson watched from Florida as confetti fell on her son, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and his teammates after the Philadelphia Eagles routed the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

The Eagles safety's mother was in Cocoa Village, Florida, not New Orleans for the big game. She was there because she also had something to celebrate — the opening of her second restaurant. However, the celebratory mode was short-lived due to an influx of negative Yelp reviews for Johnson's other establishment, Kings Grill in Rockledge, Florida.

The spike in poor reviews began shortly after Gardner-Johnson took aim at Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

"Should’ve stayed with that thick s--- ," Gardner-Johnson captioned an Instagram Stories post. The caption seemed to reference Kelce's former romance with Kayla Nicole, who attended this past Sunday's big game and celebrated the Eagles victory on the Caesars Superdome turf.

Fans of singer Taylor Swift, who are often referred to as "Swifties," appeared to be responsible for at least the initial stream of bad Google reviews and negative Yelp reviews for the Kings Grill. Swift has made numerous appearances at Chiefs games over the past two seasons and is currently dating Kelce.

"I have friends who were sending me the screenshots," Delatron Johnson told TMZ Sports. "They were going, ‘Oh my god, look at this!’ And the first thing everyone said was, ‘the Swifties have attacked.'

"Yes, we’ve seen all the reviews. The joke is really on the Swifties and everyone entertaining the reviews because Kings Grill is closed."

The unfavorable reviews were later removed and Yelp placed an "unusual activity alert" on the restaurant's page which "temporarily disabled the posting of content."

"This business recently received increased public attention, which often means people come to this page to post their views on news. While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to this incident, we’ve temporarily disabled the posting of content to this page as we work to investigate whether the content you see here reflects actual consumer experiences rather than the recent events," the post read.

A Yelp spokesperson added that "moderators" would eventually "clean up the page so that it reflects firsthand consumer experiences."

"For Yelp to remain a useful resource to the community, reviews must be based on a genuine, firsthand experience with the business," the spokesperson said in a statement. "Due to the increased activity we detected on the business page, Yelp’s User Operations team worked quickly to temporarily disable the posting of content to the page and placed an Unusual Activity Alert on Tuesday, February 11. When we see the activity dramatically decrease or stop, our moderators will clean up the page so that it reflects firsthand consumer experiences."

Some Eagles fans took notice of the flood of negative reviews Johnson's restaurant received and showed their support by leaving a considerable number of positive reviews for the establishment.

Supporters of other NFL teams also came to Johnson's aid.

"Saints fan here, thank y’all for getting CJ a ring. Kinda sad that people are trying to attack this place because the Chiefs are sorry. I’m sure the food and service here are great though so gonna easy 5 star. Go birds I guess," a New Orleans Saints fan wrote. Gardner-Johnson spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Saints.

A Las Vegas Raiders fan suggested the restaurant had top-notch service. "Service was on point thank you! Food was on point thank you! Ambiance was on point thank you! #RAAAIIIDERSSSS," the Raiders fan wrote.

Hall of Famer says Josh Allen edged Lamar Jackson in the MVP race 'for the wrong reason'

8 February 2025 at 13:12

Josh Allen finally earned his first MVP award Thursday night by a slim margin.

The Buffalo Bills quarterback edged Lamar Jackson by 21 points. Allen received 27 first-place votes to Jackson's 23.

Allen has been a perennial MVP candidate throughout his career but had always fallen short prior to Thursday.

He was a finalist three previous times, and with Jackson having just won last year, one Hall of Famer suggested Allen received sympathy votes this year.

"I get it, because [Josh] is a great quarterback. He hadn't won one. Lamar had two. And they're like, 'Let's just give him one.' But that's the wrong reason," Jonathan Ogden told TMZ Sports. "But it's all good. What are you going to do? But they made the wrong choice. But that's all good.

"I don't want it to sound like I'm hating on Josh because the brother is a tremendous quarterback. But he didn't have the year Lamar had."

Jackson's numbers do trump Allen's mostly across the board, but there is something to be said about Allen's Bills running away with their division despite letting go of top receiver Stefon Diggs.

This season marked the first time since 2019 Allen did not pass for 4,000 yards, but he did lead the NFL with a 77.4 total QBR. While his 28 passing touchdowns were also his lowest since 2019, he did run for 12 touchdowns, the second most of his career.

After winning his second MVP award last year, Jackson hit career highs with his first 4,000-yard campaign and his first season throwing 40 touchdowns.

Allen got the benefit of a rather subpar division, clinching the AFC East Dec. 1. But it became clear that as long as Allen is in the fold, the Bills have a chance to compete.

Allen received 22 second-place votes to Jackson's 26 (Saquon Barkley and Joe Burrow each received one), while Allen also got a third-place vote. Jackson recorded a fourth-place vote.

This comes despite Jackson receiving more first-team All-Pro votes than Allen. It's the first time since 1987 (John Elway) a first-team All-Pro did not win the MVP.

Former NFL player, coach Dick Jauron dead at 74

8 February 2025 at 12:42

Dick Jauron, the former head coach of two different NFL franchises, died Saturday. He was 74.

The Chicago Bears confirmed the death. Jauron was the Bears' head coach from 1999 to 2003.

He was previously diagnosed with cancer, The Daily Item in Massachusetts reported.

He became the Buffalo Bills' head coach in 2006, a role he maintained until 2009. The next season, Jauron was named the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive backs coach under Andy Reid.

Reid and the Eagles will meet the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans on Sunday for Super Bowl LIX.

Jauron was a two-sport star at Yale in the early 1970s, and he was drafted by both the Detroit Lions in the NFL Draft and the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball amateur draft. He ultimately made football his lifelong pursuit, beginning with five seasons as a defensive back in Detroit and three more with the Cincinnati Bengals before his retirement in 1980.

The well-liked Jauron moved into coaching and five years later was hired by the Bills as a defensive backs coach. He went on to coach defensive backs in Green Bay and became friends with Reid, who was an assistant offensive line and tight ends coach.

Jauron had just one winning record in five seasons with the Bears, winning the NFC North in 2001 before losing to the Eagles — then coached by Reid — in the divisional round of the playoffs.

He finished with a 60-82 record and one playoff berth over parts of 10 seasons as a head coach.

Jauron’s death came just two days after the Bears announced the death of Virginia Halas McCaskey, who inherited the franchise from her father, George Halas, and spent four-plus decades as the principal owner.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Bills' Josh Allen wins 1st career NFL MVP

6 February 2025 at 19:46

Josh Allen finally has some hardware.

The Buffalo Bills quarterback was named the NFL's Most Valuable Player for the first time on Thursday.

Fans wondered what Allen would do after the Bills traded Stefon Diggs in the offseason. Well, he clearly was just fine.

Allen threw 28 touchdowns against a career-low six interceptions while also scoring a dozen touchdowns with his legs. Allen’s 77.4 QBR was the NFL’s best, which is more impressive considering he didn’t exactly have household names to throw to – Khalil Shakir led the team in targets (100), receptions (76), and yards (821).

Allen got the benefit of a rather subpar division, clinching the AFC East on Dec. 1. But, it became very clear that as long as Allen is in the fold, the Bills will have a chance to compete.

He beat out Lamar Jackson narrowly – perhaps the AFC divisional round was foreshadowing of the MVP vote, as Allen’s Bills pulled out a narrow 27-25 win over Baltimore two and a half weeks ago.

Allen received 383 total voting points, while Jackson got 362. Allen got 27 of 50 first-place votes, while Jackson received the other 23 - Allen received 22 second-place votes to Jackson's 26 (Saquon Barkley and Joe Burrow each received one), while Allen also got a third-place vote. Jackson actually recorded a fourth-place tally.

This comes despite Jackson actually receiving more First-team All-Pro votes than Allen - it's the first time since 1987 (John Elway) that a First-team All-Pro did not win the MVP.

Allen is yet to get over the Kansas City Chiefs hump, losing to them for a fourth time in the playoffs in the AFC title game. However, a long-coveted MVP is finally on Allen’s resume.

Allen also beat out Saquon Barkley, Joe Burrow, and Jared Goff.
