Top union calls cops on itself to orchestrate 'civil disobedience' stunt at GOP office: source

24 April 2025 at 06:53

FIRST ON FOX: Members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the largest and most politically active unions in the country, contacted local California police with a plan to get arrested on purpose during a scheduled protest outside the office of GOP Rep. Young Kim, Fox News Digital has learned.

A source familiar told Fox News Digital that SEIU informed the Anaheim Police Department about a protest held Tuesday, in which they wanted to be arrested during a staged "civil-disobedience type of event." The protesters planned to block the office entryway to prompt an arrest by police officers.

Following conversations with law enforcement, the source said SEIU decided to go "in a different direction," by holding a rally outside the office with "small civil disobedience toward the end," like blocking a driver outside Kim's office to get cited by police.

"Sorry, I have no information on that," an Anaheim Police Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital when reached for comment.

When reached by Fox News Digital for comment, a spokesperson did not confirm or deny that SEIU called the cops on itself.

"I'm glad our action got your attention! You may have missed the real news today, which is that the lives of people with disabilities are at stake," the spokesperson said while including information about the "devastating effects cutting Medi-Cal would have on Rep. Kim's constituents who live with disabilities."

'CHAOS AND CONFUSION': HOW DEMOCRATS INFILTRATED 'THUNDEROUS' GOP TOWN HALLS

About 1,000 people gathered outside Kim's office on Tuesday in a peaceful protest where no one was arrested, ABC 7 Eyewitness News reported.

At one point, roughly a dozen people blocked a driveway near the building. Police instructed them to move and when they refused they were marched to another parking lot and cited with tickets for blocking a roadway, the outlet reported.

Protests outside representatives' offices and at their town halls have erupted during President Donald Trump's second term, as massive layoffs and spending cuts led by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have triggered outrage among Democrats across the country.

SEIU has been at the forefront of those protests nationwide, advocating for workers' rights and protecting Americans' access to healthcare. The protest outside Kim's office was about protecting Medicaid as Democrats have been sounding the alarm about potential threats to the program since Trump's November victory.

"The GOP budget would gut $880 BILLION from Medicaid – the biggest cut in U.S. history – just to hand $7 TRILLION to billionaires. This will hurt working families, seniors, kids, veterans & people with disabilities," SEIU posted on Friday

While Democrats have said there is no way to preserve Medicaid given Trump's ambitious tax cuts included in his "big, beautiful bill," Republicans have maintained that Trump will not cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits.

Kim, whom the SEIU protesters were targeting with their staged arrests, joined 12 House Republicans in a letter to House leadership opposing any budget resolution that would make cuts to Medicaid services. Her office is also shutting down the implication that congressional Republicans are hiding from their constituents.

"I had a productive meeting with many of these local healthcare advocates last week and will continue to make clear to House leadership and my constituents that any budget resolution that cuts vital Medicaid services for the most vulnerable citizens in our community will not receive my vote. My door is always open," Kim told Fox News Digital in a statement.

"Rep. Kim recently wrote to House leadership to make clear once again that any budget resolution that cuts vital Medicaid services for the most vulnerable citizens in our community will not receive her vote. She appreciates the work of these advocates on healthcare issues. She is committed to protecting and strengthening our healthcare system, including vital Medicaid services for our most vulnerable, and has worked across the aisle to expand access to care for her constituents," a spokesperson for Kim added in a statement.

Kim's spokesperson said the California congresswoman was "recently ranked the most effective federal lawmaker from California" and emphasized her efficiency and bipartisan leadership in Congress.

Progressive protest groups organized disruptions at Republican-held town halls and local legislative offices earlier this year, effectively shutting them down. Some lawmakers, including Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., reported safety concerns following threats of violence. Many Republicans opted for tele-town halls as a result, citing productivity in a controlled environment.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the former vice presidential candidate, has joined a growing number of Democrats hosting town halls in Republican-held congressional districts, following reports that the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) told congressional Republicans to stop holding in-person town hall meetings after protesters began disrupting them earlier this year.

Northrop Grumman is taking a financial hit on its B-21 Raider stealth bomber

  • Northrop Grumman posted a drop in profits in the first quarter of 2025.
  • It said higher manufacturing costs for the B-21 Raider stealth bomber were to blame.
  • The plane is the first new stealth bomber designed for the US military in 30 years.

Northrop Grumman posted a drop in first-quarter profits, blaming higher manufacturing costs for its B-21 Raider stealth bomber.

Sales totalled $9.5 billion in the quarter, down 7% compared to last year, the company said. Reuters reported that the figure was below the analysts' average expectation of about $9.92 billion.

The company said it recorded a pre-tax loss of $477 million on its B-21 programs, and that investments to boost future B-21 production and higher-than-expected material costs were to blame.

In a conference call, Kathy Warden, Northrop Grumman's president, said the drop was "largely relating to higher manufacturing costs" for the B-21, per The War Zone.

She said it was "primarily resulting from a process change we made to enable a higher production rate, as well as increases in the projected material cost."

She said Northrop Grumman had "underestimated the amount of consumption of both materials as well as the price increase that we are seeing."

The B-21 is the first new stealth bomber to be developed for the US Air Force in 30 years, and took its maiden flight in November 2023.

Business Insider reported last year that the plane is expected to form the backbone of the US bomber fleet, and that its state-of-the-art stealth capabilities are designed to evade sophisticated air defense systems.

A low rate initial production contract — a contract for the manufacture of a small batch of B-21s for testing — was signed in January 2024.

Gen. Anthony J Cotton, head of US Strategic Command, said last month that he wanted to see the Air Force boost the number of B-21s it plans to deploy from 100 to around 145.

He said the plane's initial low production rate was set "when the geopolitical environment was a little bit different than what we face today."

The B-21 is expected to enter service by the end of the decade.

In the conference call, Warden said that the company was taking a financial hit now in order to be in a position to ramp up production of the plane going forward.

Former British PM reveals which Trump department is perfect 'playbook' for conservative revolution

22 February 2025 at 09:00

EXCLUSIVE: Former United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss is ready to bring the "conservative revolution" home from the 2025 Conservative Political Action Conference, telling Fox News Digital her plan to "Make the West Great Again."

World leaders took center stage at CPAC this week, telling the crowd of American conservatives they’re ready to see President Donald Trump’s agenda on the world stage. Truss, the shortest-serving prime minister in British history, said world leaders are envious of Trump’s second term and his Department of Government Efficiency

"There's a lot of momentum, and people are very envious of what's happening in the U.S. We'd love to be able to get the truth from government departments about what's actually being spent," Truss told Fox News Digital.

Truss praised Elon Musk’s DOGE as a "playbook for what needs to happen" in the United Kingdom, but she said that a DOGE UK would be unrealistic under Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership.

‘MR. BREXIT’ ADVOCATES FOR UK DOGE OVER 'COMPLETE WASTE' OF TAXPAYER MONEY

"What Musk is doing, going straight to the payment system, is a fantastic idea that we need to adopt in Britain, but the reality is that is not going to happen under the current government, because the current government are part of the problem. They are defenders of the deep state. They're not going to be investigating themselves. I think this is something that has to happen when there's a change of government. We are watching very closely what Elon Musk is doing. It's a fantastic playbook for what needs to happen in the U.K."

DOGE’s revelations about America’s federal funding and the mass layoffs of government employees have shaken up Washington this past month. Truss said that Musk is even holding the British government accountable.

CHAINSAW-WIELDING ELON MUSK MAKES ‘DARK MAGA’ APPEARANCE WITH JAVIER MILEI AT CPAC

"Sometimes I say that Elon Musk is the leader of the opposition in Britain, because he's the one actually on X, challenging Keir Starmer's policies, talking about issues like the grooming gangs, the appalling gangs who have been raping girls as young as 12. It's Elon Musk that's been taking the fight to Keir Starmer," she said.

Musk and Trump’s ability to seize the social media narrative and America’s growing independent media space inspired Truss to establish a "new free speech media network" in the United Kingdom.

"We have a massive problem with free speech in Britain," Truss said. "People are being locked up for posts on Facebook and on X, which is extraordinary. We're the country that invented freedom of the press back in 1695. It was almost 100 years before the First Amendment. And now we are, as a country, locking people up for saying things online."

"This needs to change. So, what I'm establishing is a new free speech media network, which will enable people in Britain to hear what is actually going on, and people across Europe to hear what's going on." she continued. "I think that's really important. If you look at the Trump revolution, independent media was a major part of that."

Trump leaned on new media during his 2024 presidential campaign, posting TikTok videos from the campaign trail, spending nearly three hours with the widely popular podcaster Joe Rogan and using Truth Social as a direct line to his core base.

Truss said that Trump is leading a "conservative revolution" and attended CPAC this year to learn how she can model his American success back in the United Kingdom.

"What we're seeing happening in America is a revolution. It's a conservative revolution. All of the problems we have in our societies in the West, the leftist ideology that's taken over, whether it's wokeism or extreme environmentalism or anti-capitalism, all of those are being taken on by President Trump. And I want to see a similar revolution in Britain, which is why I'm here to learn about how they're doing it, to talk about how we build that kind of movement in Britain," Truss said.

The former prime minister said she agrees with Trump on "everything from deporting illegal migrants; to cutting taxes; to drill, baby, drill; to being clear that men can't be in women's bathrooms." She said Britain needs to implement these policies and fire the "permanent bureaucrats who are part of the problem."

"The big difference with Britain is our bureaucracy is more powerful than the American bureaucracy. Most people working in government are career bureaucrats, and that's what I think we need to learn from America. We need to change," Truss added.

Truss said she has had productive conversations with European and world leaders this week, strategizing about how to broaden their conservative coalition and create policies to bring energy prices down and boost the economy. Truss even said she had plans for a British CPAC.

Truss resigned as British prime minister after 49 days in office in 2022 after her large tax cut plan destabilized the economy. She was one of three prime ministers in the United Kingdom within a four-month period in 2022.

"I recognize that, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party," Truss said in her resignation.

The United Kingdom’s current prime minister and leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, ended 14 consecutive years of Conservative party rule when he was elected in 2024.

There is a UK DOGE movement gaining traction on social media for revealing wasteful British spending. The Procurement Files is an X account that combs through more than 300,000 contracts on the United Kingdom’s public government database to reveal mismanagement of British taxpayer money, much like the official US DOGE account does.

Nigel Farage, the Reform UK party leader who initiated Britain’s departure from the European Union, has explicitly called for a UK DOGE. Despite the discontent from conservative leaders on British government efficiency, the prime minister’s office said that it has created initiatives to cut government waste.

"The Chancellor has asked all departments to deliver savings and efficiencies of 5% of their current budget as part of the first zero-based Spending Review in seventeen years," an HM Treasury spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"Every pound of government spending is being interrogated, to root out waste and get the best value for taxpayers as we deliver on their priorities set out in the Plan for Change. We have also created an Office for Value for Money that is underpinning our work driving out waste and inefficiency, alongside cutting out hundreds of millions of pounds worth of consultancy spending in government over the next few years," the spokesperson added.

Trump admin turns tables on policy 'exploited' by Biden DHS to shield more Haitians from deportations

21 February 2025 at 09:56

The Trump administration has canceled an extension of deportation protections for migrants from Haiti implemented by the Biden administration, opening the door for them to be removed from the country sooner.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced that she has vacated a decision by the Biden administration to extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals by 18 months in June of last year.

"President Trump and I are returning TPS to its original status: temporary," Noem said in a statement.

TRUMP ADMIN ENDS DEPORTATION PROTECTIONS FOR MASSIVE NUMBER OF VENEZUELANS AMID ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION CRACKDOWN

It now means that instead of ending in February 2026, TPS protections will end in August.

TPS grants protection from deportation and allows work permits for nationals living in the U.S. from countries deemed unsafe for them to be returned. Republicans have been skeptical of the program, saying it has been used too broadly, with 17 countries designated by the end of the Biden administration.

In a release, DHS said TPS has been "exploited and abused" and noted that Haiti had been designated for TPS since 2010. More than 520,000 Haitians were estimated to be eligible for TPS protection in July.

"Biden and Mayorkas attempted to tie the hands of the Trump administration by extending Haiti's Temporary Protected Status by 18 months—far longer than justified or necessary," a DHS spokesperson said in a statement.

"We are returning integrity to the TPS system, which has been abused and exploited by illegal aliens for decades. President Trump and Secretary Noem are returning TPS to its original status: temporary."

NOEM MAKES AGGRESSIVE NEW MOVE TO RAMP UP ARRESTS, DEPORTATIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

Migration from Haiti was under scrutiny in 2024 as the Trump campaign drew attention to massive amounts of Haitian migration under the parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV), when 30,000 migrants were allowed in each month. At that point, if eligible, they could not be removed after their parole expired due to TPS. It affected a number of towns, including Springfield, Ohio, and Charleroi, Pennsylvania.

The TPS move comes after Noem first revoked a TPS extension for Venezuelan migrants and then revoked TPS status for 300,000 nationals altogether.

The administration has also largely ended the use of parole to allow migrants into the U.S. President Donald Trump stopped the use of the CBP One app to allow in migrants at ports of entry, as well as the CHNV program. Fox News Digital reported this week that the administration has paused applications for CHNV and two other parole programs, citing national security and fraud concerns.

Alex Bregman leads list of MLB free agents still available as pitchers and catchers report to spring training

12 February 2025 at 03:45

Pitchers and catchers are in Florida and Arizona to gear up for the marathon that is the baseball season.

Spring training is officially underway after a wild offseason that saw over $3.3 billion in contracts signed.

However, there are still some players with All-Star resumes who do not know where they will be on March 27 when the season starts.

Here are the top six available free agents who are still on the market with just over six weeks until Opening Day.

One of the more consistent players in baseball is a free agent for the first time, and it has not exactly been the ideal offseason for the two-time All-Star.

Alex Bregman just won his first Gold Glove Award with the Houston Astros in 2024, and since 2021, he is slashing .262/.350/.444.

It was reported that Bregman was offered a six-year, $156 million deal to return to the Astros, but he declined. His name has circulated around several rumors, but the Scott Boras issues continue this side of Juan Soto.

While Bregman may not be his MVP-candidate self anymore (he led the majors with an 8.9 WAR in 2019), his bat-to-ball skills are still elite, and as the Gold Glove Award states, so is his defense.

Jose Iglesias, 35, had a career resurgence upon releasing the hit song "OMG" that became the rallying cry for the New York Mets.

After not playing in the 2023 season, Iglesias was scooped by the Mets midseason and was more than what anyone had expected. The sure-handed infielder hit .337 and racked up a career-high 3.1 WAR despite playing just 85 games.

His veteran leadership surely played a role in Queens throughout 2024, and if anyone needs a post-game concert, Iglesias will not cost anything extra.

To stick with the Mets, Jose Quintana is coming off a 170-inning season, his most in five years. The lefty posted a 3.75 ERA and could very well be a solid middle-of-the-rotation guy for some teams out there.

The 2025 season would be Quintana's 14th, and while no team should expect him to make the All-Star Game for the first time since 2016, pitching comes at a premium in the big leagues.

At age 36, the Colombia native could be a cheap short-term option.

One thing that all teams yearn for is a swing-and-miss arm, which is exactly what Nick Pivetta is. He ranked in the 88th percentile in whiff rate last season, while his 2.2 BB/9 was the best mark of his career.

YANKEES MANAGER TAKES SHOT AT DODGERS, ALLEGES LACK OF 'CLASS' WITH WORLD SERIES TITLE TALK

Sure, Pivetta's career ERA of 4.76 is not ideal, but he has pitched to a 4.09 in the last two years with the Boston Red Sox, and his metrics showed he pitched into some bad luck, as well.

He does get hit hard, but if a team can tap into that strikeout potential, he could be a weapon. Pivetta also turns 32 on Thursday, so it is a young arm to take a chance on.

David Robertson just wrapped up his 16th MLB season but seems to be a bit of an ageless wonder. This past season with the Texas Rangers, he pitched to a 3.00 ERA, which is par for the course throughout his career.

He will turn 40 on April 9, but he knows how to get the job done and has shown no signs of slowing down. His 12.4 K/9 was his best since 2017, as well.

In a game built on bullpens, Robertson's services would be more than welcome.

Alex Verdugo's bat had a down season with the New York Yankees in 2024, but in his lone season patrolling the outfield in the Bronx, he looked more than comfortable and was a Gold Glove finalist.

From 2019 to 2022, Verdugo hit .289 with a .778 OPS; his numbers deteriorated in his final year in Boston amid rumors of tension between himself and the team, and perhaps he felt the pressure of playing in a contract year in 2024.

However, Verdugo can play all three outfield positions very well and is another guy who can put the bat on the ball when you need him to.
