Finland detained an oil tanker it says was part of Russia's 'shadow fleet' helping fund its war in Ukraine

  • An undersea cable in the Baltic Sea that provides power to Estonia was cut on Wednesday.
  • Finnish authorities say they've seized an oil tanker they suspect caused the outage.
  • Finland's president raised concerns of Russia's "shadow fleet" on social media.

Finnish authorities said they've seized an oil tanker on Thursday as part of its probe into the cutting of an undersea cable in the Baltic Sea which provides electricity to Estonia.

Finnish customs authorities and the European Union's executive commission said the tanker may be part of Russia's "shadow fleet" of oil tankers, The Associated Press reported.

Finland police said in a news release that the vessel, Eagle S, was registered in Cook Islands. MarineTraffic, a global ship tracking website, also stated that the ship was flying under the flag of Cook Islands and was sailing between St. Petersburg, Russia, and Port Said, Egypt.

On Wednesday, Finnish authorities began investigating the rupture of Estlink-2, an undersea power cable connected between Finland and Estonia, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said on X.

Finland police said in the press release that the case is being investigated as "aggravated criminal mischief."

A spokesperson for Finland's police did not respond to a request for comment sent outside of working hours.

Russia has been using a network of mostly aging ships that are difficult to trace back to the country in order to evade costly Western sanctions that were imposed after the start of the Ukraine war in 2022.

According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clear Air, a Finland-based think tank, more than half of the 369 vessels exporting Russian crude oil and oil products in November were shadow tankers.

"Our main task is to find effective means to stop the shadow fleet," Orpo said at a news conference, according to The New York Times. "The shadow fleet pumps money into Russia's war fund so that Russia can continue to wage its war in Ukraine against the people of Ukraine, and it has to be stopped."

Finland's President Alexander Stubb also said in a post on X that the risks of Russia's shadow fleet need to be addressed.

The damage to the Estlink-2 further highlights growing concerns among countries around the risks of sabotage against undersea power cables and pipelines.

In November, two data cables were cut under the Baltic Sea, linking Germany and Finland as well as Sweden and Lithuania.

German Foreign Minister Boris Pistorius said without evidence that the incident was no accident.

"We have to assume, without certain information, that the damage is caused by sabotage," he said.

Mark Wahlberg Shows His Abs for 4 A.M. Post-Christmas Cold Plunge

Mark Wahlberg Strips Down for a 4 AM Christmas Morning Cold Plunge

Mark Wahlberg continued his Christmas celebration by stripping down and taking an early morning cold plunge.

“4 A.M. rain or shine,” Wahlberg, 53, said in a video shared via Instagram on Thursday, December 26. “It’s raining outside, but we’re still gonna plunge.”

In the clip, Wahlberg walked out of a locker-room shower wearing a pair of navy short swim trunks. The actor also rocked a watch on one wrist and a navy blue bracelet on the other. As Wahlberg faced the camera, his abs were on full display as he prepared to exit the facility, and a pair of sneakers were resting behind him.

“Nothing like a cold plunge in the rain🥶🥶🌧 @thecoldlife @municipal 🏹📈💯 4 am club,” Wahlberg captioned the post.

Wahlberg’s fitness routine seemingly takes no days off — especially during the holiday season. The day before his cold plunge, Wahlberg woke up early on Christmas morning to squeeze in another workout session.

“4 am club 🥶🔥🏹📈💯,” he captioned an Instagram video of him lifting weights.

Wahlberg donned a cut-off tank top from his Municipal fitness clothing brand as he performed a series of reps with a set of dumbbells. As he lifted the weights, Wahlberg flexed his muscles for the camera.

Hours after the gym session, Wahlberg gathered with his family to celebrate Christmas together. He shared a tiny glimpse of the festivities via his Instagram Story which included family members gathered in a living room with a Santa Claus statue in the background.

In honor of the holiday, Wahlberg posted his brood’s Christmas card which featured his wife, Rhea Durham, and their four kids: Ella, 21, Michael, 18, Brendan, 16, and Grace, 14, all sitting together on a couch.

“Merry Christmas from my family to yours ❤🙏❤,” Wahlberg captioned the photo.

Durham, 46, also shared the card on her social media page and wished her followers a happy holiday.

“Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happiest holidays!” she penned. “Love, The Wahlbergs ❌⭕✝🙏🏼.”

Wahlberg’s time in the gym during the holidays hasn’t deterred him from the celebrations. He previously opened up about how Durham runs the show during the family time — but he makes sure he takes her and their kids on a special excursion.

“I’m very involved, though I don’t cook all that much. I mean, I’ll grill some steaks and make some burgers, stuff like that,” Wahlberg shared of their traditions while speaking to Us Weekly on the red carpet for his 2017 film Daddy’s Home 2. “But very involved — when it comes to the holiday, my wife does the decorating, my wife purchases the gifts. I make sure I get something special for her. I plan the vacation and take them away on a holiday.”

  • On Thursday, season two of "The Flipping El Moussas" premiered on HGTV.
  • Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa flipped a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Los Angeles.
  • The flip took longer than they anticipated, but they still made a profit on the property.

Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae El Moussa are back to flipping houses on HGTV.

In January, the couple will appear in the competition series "The Flip Off" with Tarek's ex, Christina Haack. And on Thursday, season two of Heather and Tarek's show, "The Flipping El Moussas," premiered on HGTV, diving into the couple's house-flipping business.

In the episode, Tarek and Heather flipped a three-bedroom house in Los Angeles that was filled to the brim with trash when they started the project.

As the episode opens, Tarek and Heather check out a three-bedroom, two-bath house in Los Angeles.

Tarek's company, Tarek Buys Houses, had purchased the 1,200-square-foot property for $430,000, which they said was on the low end for the area because the house was in disarray, filled with trash, rat droppings, and human feces.

They originally intended to sell the home to another flipper at wholesale, but because it was so dirty, Tarek and Heather would have had to invest money in cleaning it out before they could sell it to another flipper.

Instead, they decided to flip it themselves. They set a budget of $184,000 for renovations and hoped to sell the home for close to $1 million.

The home's large living area was full of garbage when Tarek and Heather started working on it.

HGTV

The large living area had an open-concept feel, though it was difficult to see the layout when Tarek and Heather first toured the property because it was covered in debris.

Tarek said in the premiere that it took his team three days and 10 trips to the dump to clean out the property.

Tarek and Heather decided to fully open the living area during the flip.

The new living space felt large and airy after the renovation.

Tarek and Heather took down the wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the living area, making the space feel larger.

The space was full of light thanks to its white walls and the sliding glass doors that took up nearly a whole wall in the living room. Touches like beachy lighting modernized the space.

The backyard wasn't much to look at before the renovation.

The fenced-in backyard offered privacy, but that was the only redeeming quality when the El Moussas worked on the project. The grass had died, and the house wasn't in great shape.

However, the El Moussas noticed that a raised patio would create a view of the area, so they decided to add it to the property.

A patio made the house feel more luxurious.

HGTV

The episode revealed that adding the patio to the home wasn't simple. The team originally constructing it built an unstable structure and burned a hole through it, to Heather and Tarek's dismay.

But the final version of the patio created an indoor-outdoor living vibe thanks to the sliding doors.

The El Moussas also added a new fence, grass, and a gravel area to the yard for additional seating.

The kitchen was originally full of dark cabinetry.

HGTV

To make the kitchen feel grander, the El Moussas decided to place the oven and gas range in the center of the space so they were visible when you entered the home.

They had to move some windows around to make the change, which ended up causing them weeks of delays on the flip.

The delays were worth it, as the range became the centerpiece of the kitchen.

The kitchen looked cohesive with the living room, featuring white counters, appliances, and built-in open shelves.

When Tarek and Heather first walked through the house, they found that the primary bedroom had a bathroom attached to it, but it was accessible from the home's laundry room and kitchen as well.

The El Moussas decided to close off the bathroom and move the laundry room to a closet to make the bedroom bigger and have a true en suite.

Rather than one large window, the El Moussas added two windows framing the bed in the primary to give it a sense of grandeur.

Heather and Tarek's vision for the bathroom paid off, as they were able to use the former laundry room to add square footage to the bathroom.

The walk-in shower featured a bench, and tile floors with a star-shaped pattern brought a pop of color to the room.

The wooden cabinetry also matched the shelving in the living area, giving the home a sense of cohesion.

The flip took longer than the El Moussas wanted, but they still made a profit.

HGTV

Due to project delays, Tarek and Heather spent 12 months flipping the property in Los Angeles.

They also spent nearly $100,000 over their original budget on the renovation and invested $276,000 in the flip. Considering the carrying and selling costs, Tarek and Heather's breakeven price for the house was $793,000.

They originally listed the house for $999,999 and got an offer of $920,000.

It’s “worth every penny,” one five-star reviewer said. “Dries fast, easy to switch out each tool. Three different air speed settings and heat settings. Everything Candace Cameron Bure Has Said About Leaving Hallmark for GAF

Candace Cameron Bure shocked fans in April 2022 when she announced that she was leaving Hallmark Media for Great American Media.

The actress starred in 10 holiday films for Hallmark Channel during her 13 years with the network, earning her the title of “Queen of Christmas” from viewers and critics alike.

She also helmed Hallmark Mystery’s Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise, appearing as librarian-turned-amateur-sleuth, Aurora Teagarden, in 18 films before her 2022 departure.

Cameron Bure’s exit came one year after former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott launched the new network following his controversial handling of a same-sex commercial for the channel.

Shortly after the release of her first Great American Family holiday film in fall 2022, Cameron Bure made waves for her comments about the network’s faith-based programming. She told WSJ. Magazine that GAF aligned with her beliefs partly because they were focusing on “traditional marriage” story lines, which caused backlash from her fanbase.

Scroll down to see everything that Cameron Bure has said about her transition to Great American Media — and why Hallmark was no longer a good fit — below:

“I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” the Kind is the New Classy author said in an April 2022 statement. “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose. GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family.”

©

“Candy Rock Entertainment’s mission is to bring to life compelling stories that the entire family can enjoy while feeling a sense of togetherness and connection. I’m so proud of the first of these projects because they are exactly that,” the California native said in a September 2022 press release when announcing her first holiday film for Great American Family. “A Christmas … Present is about slowing down enough to recognize what’s right in front of our eyes. The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season will arrive before we know it but it’s through the quiet moments that we hear God speak to us, directing our path to what’s most important.”

©

“The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And those have been absolutely wonderful,” the A Shoe Addict’s Christmas star told Variety in September 2022. “It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up. So we did not start having those discussions until we were well into negotiations with Hallmark Channel for renewing. And as every business person knows, you’ve got to do what’s right for contracts. It didn’t work out with Hallmark and so we started talking to Bill.”

©

“I’m that person that just sits and watches and observes from the sidelines. Bill has just always been a champion. He’s been a champion for others through his whole career and that’s what has made him an incredible president and CEO of a company — because he knows he’s not doing it himself,” Cameron Bure told the outlet in September 2022 of the former Hallmark Channel CEO. “It takes a team and it takes loyalty and it takes people doing their best. And he acknowledges that always, which makes him a great leader. … It’s been an almost 15-year relationship.”
She added: “I trust what Bill has done over the years and that really means a lot to me. That’s also why a move to Great American Family was a good move for me because of the long standing relationship with Bill.”

©

“It absolutely is representing family. It’s representing faith, which is a really big component. They are going to move much more forward in the faith content, and having both — still having lots of movies, rom-coms and Christmas movies that don’t involve faith, but also ones that really do,” the Fuller House alum said in September 2022 of Great American Media’s focus. “I think that that’s going to be a big difference in Great American Family channel, as well as patriotic content. I love hearing stories about our veterans, about our servicemen and women, those reunions when they come home. We want to showcase all of that — all of the good that’s going on and we want to tug on those heartstrings.”

©

“It basically is a completely different network than when I started because of the change of leadership,” Cameron Bure told WSJ. Magazine in November 2022, when asked about her departure from Hallmark Media.
When it comes to the stories being featured on Great American Media’s channels, she confessed, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”
The comment came after Abbott’s 2020 exit from Hallmark Media following his choice to cut a same-sex commercial from the network. Hallmark has since begun to feature more diverse couplings and lead characters — but Great American Media has hinted that won’t be its focus moving forward.
“I want to be able to tell that story in a beautiful way, but also that is not off-putting to the unbeliever or someone who shares a different faith,” the former child star added.

©

Cameron Bure told the magazine in November 2022 that she was ready to make movies that didn’t include the stereotypical rom-com tropes such as cocoa dates and snowball fights that lead to forever love.
“My own kids have said, ‘Mom, are you leaving the big city and going to the farm, meeting the love of your life?’” she quipped, noting that she will still make rom-coms for Great American Media in the future. “Those are all fun things that we love, but we see over and over and over.”

©

Cameron Bure responded in November 2022 to claims that she’s a “bigot” after she told WSJ. Magazine that Great American Media would focus on “traditional marriage” story lines.
“It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone,” she wrote in a lengthy social media statement. “It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.”
The former View cohost also clarified why she chose to move to Great American Media, implying that her original interview comments were taken out of context.
“I have long wanted to find a home for more faith-based programming. I am grateful to be an integral part of a young and growing network. I had also expressed in my interview, which was not included, that people of all ethnicities and identities have and will continue to contribute to the network in great ways both in front of and behind the camera, which I encourage and fully support,” she claimed. “I’ve never been interested in proselytizing through my storytelling, but in celebrating God’s greatness in our lives through the stories I tell.”

©

Cameron Bure gave insight into her reason for switching from Hallmark to Great American Family during a May 2024 Instagram Story Q&A. “It wasn’t so much about leaving as it was about an opportunity to grow a new network that puts faith and family at the forefront of its content,” she replied. “I’m very proud of the work I did at Hallmark for 15 years and love all my friends there.”
The actress explained, “I’m more than an actor. Growth in my company as well as my achievements in business is extremely important to me.” She also confirmed two new projects from Great American Family: The Ainsley McGregor Mysteries and A Christmas Less Traveled.

©

“Hallmark has been so loved for so many years, and I loved working there. So it’s like, how can you leave?” Cameron Bure exclusively told Us in November 2024, reflecting on her network move. “And it’s just like, well, things grow and things change and there are new chapters, and I love that I’m getting to build a new network and one that truly carries a message that’s more meaningful for me personally.”
She explained that with Great American Family she gets to bring “stories of faith” to the forefront. “We have ones that aren’t about faith and more in the traditional rom-com space, but our viewers really want messages that are more meaningful,” she said.
Cameron Bure added that with her new projects she is able to include “biblical message[s]” and remember “the reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the birth of Christ.”

©

Two years into her time with Great American Family, Cameron Bure told The Hollywood Reporter that they’re still “relatively new.” She explained in December 2024, “Like any new business, you have your core demographic and what you’re looking for, and you’re going to produce the product that will best suit that audience.”
Cameron Bure noted, “Most networks are not trying to be all things to all people. What really differentiates our channel from some of the other ones out there is that we’re not afraid to talk about God and God’s hand in our lives instead of fate or providence.” The actress added that Great American Family isn’t afraid to lean into “faith” that aligns with their tagline for the channel which is: “Christmas as it’s meant to be.”
With that tagline in mind, Cameron Bure has focused on finding stories that “touch the heart and have more purpose to them than just the magic of Christmas or the Santa Claus of Christmas.”
She concluded: “It’s always been the spirit of all the movies that I’ve produced. God loves all of us, and so that’s the spirit in which I make everything.”

Jennifer Lopez enjoyed time with family during her first Christmas since her divorce from Ben Affleck.

Lopez, 55, shared a series of festive photos via Instagram on Wednesday, December 25. In one snap, she posed on a bench next to child Emme, 16, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony, and niece Lucie, also 16. The trio held warm beverages in their hands, staying cozy in the snowy locale.

Lopez also took a selfie with sister Lynda and shared a photo of Emme and Lucie sitting by a Christmas tree dressed in matching holiday pajamas. In a separate video, Emme and twin brother Max could be seen lounging in a room by a blazing fireplace.

“Merry Christmas Eve to you and yours,” Lopez captioned the clip.

While Lopez spent Christmas away from Affleck, 52, the pair met up to exchange gifts on Sunday, December 22. In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Lopez and Affleck reunited at the members-only social club Soho House in West Hollywood. Affleck was seen carrying a black tote bag seemingly filled with presents.

Lopez filed for divorce in August after two years of marriage. In her divorce docs, she listed April 26 as her and Affleck’s date of separation. Although their marriage didn’t work out, Lopez and Affleck have been spotted together on several occasions since their split.

Jennifer Lopez Breaks Silence After Filing for Divorce From Ben Affleck

Earlier this month, Lopez joined Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner at a youth play. Emme was in the production along with Seraphina, 15, whom Affleck shares with Garner, 52. (Affleck and Garner also share Violet, 19, and Samuel, 12.)

In September, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that Lopez and Affleck experienced “lingering doubts” about whether they were making the right decision by divorcing, especially when considering their blended family.

“There’s still a lot of love between them,” the insider shared, adding that the divorce is “going forward” nonetheless. “When they’re together as a family and see the kids together, it reminds them of how good they are as a team and what’s important.”

Jennifer Lopez Calls Twins Her 'Whole Heart' Amid Marriage Woes

A second source shared that Lopez and Affleck “know they will be in each other’s lives because of the kids and are remaining friendly.”

Lopez and Affleck have a long history together. They initially got engaged in 2002 but called off the wedding in 2004. After their respective divorces from Anthony, 56, and Garner, they rekindled their romance in 2021. However, it eventually became clear that they weren’t meant to be, a source exclusively told Us in August.

“It was more and more apparent they weren’t a good match,” the insider explained. “It boiled down to [the fact that] they are two different people. … She came to the realization things weren’t going to change and they were incompatible. Spending time apart — it became obvious it wouldn’t work.”
