Aaron Rodgers puts Jets teammates on notice with 2 games left in season

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers reflected on the team’s close loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and how the team stays focused on the final two games of the regular season.

Rodgers had 256 passing yards and a touchdown pass as the Jets fell to the Rams, 19-9. He was asked about how the team will keep a positive mindset with the season nearing its end and New York out of contention for the playoffs.

"I think we’re kinda past the ‘keeping it positive’ thing," Rodgers said, via SNY. "I think it’s just about perspective. Perspective informs your truth and your truth makes your reality.

"So, the reality of the situation is what it is, but your perspective is what you can change every single day. So, what you’re focusing on is the most important thing now. It’s not to change the reality of the situation – being 4-11, out of the playoffs, going into an unknown offseason."

Rodgers then spoke about what the next two weeks will mean in terms of building for the future of the organization.

SAM DARNOLD'S REMARKABLE TD PASS TO JUSTIN JEFFERSON HELPS VIKINGS EDGE SEAHAWKS

"You gotta figure out what it means to be a professional," he said. "That's an important part of building culture. The last two weeks we can really see who's on board moving forward and who is ready to get out. It’s just part of the game. I’ve been on a couple of teams who were out of it, and it’s interesting to watch the practice habits, the preparation habits.

"Hopefully, we’ll do the right thing, and it means a lot because everybody’s watching, and it’s a who-you-know business. There will be interesting conversations in the next couple of weeks, but just focus on the relationships we have with each other and try to finish this thing out like a pro."

The Jets underwent dramatic changes during the season, from the dismissal of their head coach and general manager to a major trade for Davante Adams.

The team could see more changes as Garrett Wilson has been noncommittal about his future with the team.

New York is 4-11 on the year.

Jets star Garrett Wilson noncommittal on staying with Jets long term: 'I don't know'

Garrett Wilson is clearly tired of losing.

The New York Jets star receiver is having the best season of his young career from a statistical standpoint, but, from a team perspective, this year is without a doubt the biggest disappointment he's been a part of.

Wilson is eligible for a contract extension after the season, but Wilson said he's unsure if he wants to stay with the Jets long term.

"I don't know, man. I just do whatever, go about my day however, be where my feet at," Wilson told reporters Thursday. "If they do [offer an extension] … that'd be awesome.

Wilson added that he "love[s] the Jets … but I can't be worrying about all that. Just going to finish these three games. I can't be looking at all that right now."

Wilson spoke to reporters just hours after a report that owner Woody Johnson nixed a trade for Jerry Jeudy because of Jeudy's rating in the Madden video game. It's previously been reported Johnson also wanted Aaron Rodgers benched after the team fell to 2-2, and former general Joe Douglas reportedly said his boss was acting like a "teenager."

TITANS HEAD COACH GOES ON EXPLICIT TIRADE WHEN ASKED ABOUT TEAM BEING SOFT: 'TOTAL BULLS---'

Wilson is on pace to set career highs across the board. He's had over 1,000 yards each of his first two seasons, a number he likely will surpass this weekend against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Jets are 4-10, but things have gone from bad to worse since they fired Robert Saleh. The Jets were 2-3 when Johnson axed the head coach, and they are 2-7 since.

On the bright side, Aaron Rodgers has turned back the clock recently. He's thrown 13 touchdowns and just one interception in his last seven games. Maybe Rodgers and Wilson can build off that in 2025 — if Rodgers stays.

ESPN star fires back at Aaron Rodgers after Jets QB calls on critics to share 'vax status'

A day after New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said those who criticize him should "state [their] vax status," former NFL star and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark launched into a minutes-long diatribe ripping the outspoken quarterback.

Clark recently called Rodgers a "fraud" on ESPN after Rodgers criticized the network, which he appears on weekly for "The Pat McAfee Show."

"Now, it’s all talk shows and people whose opinions are so important now, and they believe they’re the celebrities now. They’re the stars for just being able to talk about sports or give a take about sports, many of which are unfounded or asinine, as we all know. But that’s the environment we’re in now," Rodgers said.

That led to Clark calling Rodgers a "hypocrite" last week. And after subtle jabs against one another, Clark posted a video on his X account, noting Rodgers' "continuation of his hypocrisy that started with criticizing ESPN analysts while being paid to be on ESPN."

After further discussing why he believed Rodgers was a "hypocrite," Clark said Rodgers was the "only" person to discuss the vaccine wars.

"Now I know something else you were very interested in was my vaccination status. And yes, I’m vaxxed because I have no spleen, have no gallbladder because of playing in Denver," Clark said in the video. "And as far as your vaccination status, so you can stop trying to trick people into thinking that we want to talk about that above the stink of your film. I’ve never heard it one more time after your incident.

"And the only reason we spoke about it then was because, based on your vaccination status, it was going to determine how long you were out. And also, people didn’t care that you weren’t vaccinated. They cared that you were slimy about it. They cared that you were deceitful about it. And they cared that you had this air of arrogance when answering the questions about it. And you’ve kind of been the only person that has talked about it since."

ARMY-NAVY GAME DRAWS ITS MOST VIEWERS EVER RECORDED AFTER TRUMP'S ATTENDANCE

Clark also said he formed his opinion of Rodgers based on conversations he has had with those who were teammates with Rodgers, not because of their vaccine status. The former defensive back then fired off a closing shot.

"But let me be very, very clear. My job is to analyze you. You’ve decided to analyze me. And in analyzing you, what I know is your QBR is 21st. I also know that you’re the quarterback of a 4-10 team who has to win the last three games of the season to even be equal to what last year’s team was without you," Clark continued.

"Now, I get it. You get on the show, and you talk about my broach. And you curse and all this tough talk. I just need you to know, don't none of that scares me. I’m gonna do my job the way I’m supposed to do it. I feel no way about not being able to talk about what the film says because of what my career was. And if you continue to be arrogant, or smug, or hypocritical, and it pertains to my job, I’m going to do it."

Rodgers has since shared regret about his approach in initially discussing his vaccination status.

Aaron Rodgers would succeed in politics because he refused to get COVID vaccine, former NFL rival says

Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher offered his political analysis of Aaron Rodgers as a potential candidate for public office during an interview on "Jesse Watters Primetime" on Tuesday.

Urlacher played against Rodgers twice a year from 2008, when Rodgers took over as the Green Bay Packers starter, until Urlahcer's final season in 2012. But post-retirement, Urlacher finds himself on the same side as Rodgers on many political issues. One aspect of Rodgers' reputation that Urlacher believes makes the quarterback a viable candidate for public office some day is that he refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

"Aaron would be a good one because of all the stuff he went through with the vax, not taking it, kind of standing up for the people who didn't want to get it," Urlacher said. "A lot of guys who played in the NFL didn't have a choice because they were younger and if they didn't get the shot, they'd probably just cut them."

Rodgers incited controversy over his vaccination status in November 2021, when he tested positive for COVID and had to miss multiple games for the Packers. Rodgers had previously said he was "immunized" when asked by reporters if he got the vaccine during training camp in August.

The NFL fined the Packers $300,000 and issued $14,650 in fines to Rodgers for violations of league and players’ union protocols, deeming his comments about being immunized "misleading."

But while many fans turned against Rodgers after that, Urlacher believed it was a moment that may have also garnered support.

"I like that he stood up for the people, kind of the smaller guy, kind of joined in with them… Aaron really stood up for them," Urlacher said. "They put him through hell for it, they gave him a lot of flack in the media, the NFL made it hard for those guys who didn't get the shot, they tested them every day, they went through a little more of a strenuous schedule than the other guys who actually ended up getting the shot."

COWBOYS OWNER JERRY JONES SAYS RACCOON, SQUIRREL ARE AMONG DIETARY PREFERENCES

After testing positive for the virus in November of that year, Rodgers clarified that he used the term "immunized" to describe a homeopathic treatment regimen and not a vaccine. Rodgers also said at the time he was allergic to polyethylene glycol, which is an ingredient in the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and he was also concerned about potential adverse reactions to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

During an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" that November, Rodgers apologized for "misleading" people about his vaccination status.

"I made some comments that people might have felt were misleading," he said. "And to anybody who felt misled by those comments, I take full responsibility for those comments."

However, Rodgers also firmly defended his decision not to get the vaccine.

"I’m an athlete, I’m not an activist. So I’m going to get back to doing what I do best and that’s playing ball," Rodgers said. "I shared my opinion. It wasn’t one that was come to frivolously. It involved a lot of study and what I felt was in my best interest for my body. But further comments I’m going to keep between myself and my doctors, and I don’t have any further comments about any of those things after this interview."

Aaron Rodgers calls on critics to share 'vax status' before scrutinizing him amid bubbling feud with ESPN star

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is far from the one to shy away from anyone who makes the effort to critique him on his play or stances on hot-button topics.

Because of that, Rodgers appeared to respond to the latest back and forth he has had with some ESPN analysts while appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show" on ESPN. Before he left his weekly guest appearance, Rodgers dropped a "PSA" to his detractors.

"I know I gotta say this multiple times because people don’t listen. Say whatever the f--- you want about me, I don’t care. But before you do it, whether you state your name, your accolades, pronouns, whatever it is, state your vax status," Rodgers said. "So, that anything you say afterward gets put in the right light. Just get it out there.

"Because then when you say things about me, people can at least like, ‘Oh, you are captured by the multibillion-dollar propaganda psy-op, and you’re still upset about it.'"

Rodgers’ rant came in the midst of an apparent feud with Super Bowl champion and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark. The former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back called Rodgers a "fraud" on the network following the quarterback’s own criticism of the network.

COWBOYS OWNER JERRY JONES SAYS RACCOON, SQUIRREL ARE AMONG DIETARY PREFERENCES

The Jets star said last week on "The Pat McAfee Show" that ESPN is not the same as it was more than 10 years ago.

"Now it’s all talk shows and people whose opinions are so important now, and they believe they’re the celebrities now, they’re the stars for just being able to talk about sports or give a take about sports, many of which are unfounded or asinine, as we all know. But that’s the environment we’re in now," Rodgers said.

Clark said in response that the only reason Rodgers is able to say "asinine" things is because someone is paying him to do it.

"This dude is a fraud. He’s been a fraud. He acts like he’s above everybody and everything," Clark said.

Clark wrote on X that he tried to call into "The Pat McAfee Show" to respond.

"Aaron & Pat can say what they want," he wrote in a separate post. "I only want to speak to Pat because I didn’t say anything negative about him and spoke with no ill intent. So him jumping in this for Aaron is confusing if he’s calling me jealous or thinking I’m attacking his business model."

Aaron Rodgers suggests JFK assassination piqued his interest in politics, 'disheartened' with two-party system

Aaron Rodgers’ flirtation with politics was addressed in the second episode of his three-part Netflix documentary, "Enigma."

The New York Jets quarterback was floated as a possible running mate to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. earlier this year before the independent presidential candidate eventually dropped out of the race and endorsed Donald Trump.

Rodgers and Kennedy went on a hike, and the four-time NFL MVP admitted to Kennedy that John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963 initially piqued his interest in politics.

"I mean, I got into politics back when I was a sophomore in high school. I mean, the idea, all around, honestly, your uncle’s death, and that was my first entrance into pulling the veil back, as I call it, on, like, what’s actually going on because I read the Warren Commission’s report about it. I remember it hit me going, ‘This is what they said happened?’ This can’t be real," he said.

"And then I went to Berkeley, which is a crazy political environment. It’s super leftist, and I grew up in a really conservative, small-town environment. So, that was fun to have, like, my ideologies tested. But, I mean, it’s … I’ve just been disheartened forever, that there’s a two-party system that’s really one party. The one party that's ruling is the people with the money. So, I really didn’t have any hope in politics until, really, you announced your candidacy."

EAGLES' JALEN HURTS BENEFITING FROM 'PRETTY PRIVILEGE,' ESPN NFL ANALYST SAYS

Rodgers later confirmed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asked him to be his running mate. However, he chose to continue playing football with the Jets.

"Retire and go into politics or play two or three more years," he said. "I definitely envisioned a life without football, and it wasn’t scary. I felt comfort in being able to move on at some point. But I love football. I want to keep playing. And I hated the way last year went. There’s still some unfinished business in New Jersey."

Amid the drama that came with the possibility of Rodgers being Kennedy’s running mate was a report that claimed he allegedly shared conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting.

Rodgers denied the allegations at the time and in the episode he seemed shocked that someone would paint him that way.

"Misrepresentation is a trigger for sure. Trauma, trigger, whatever," Rodgers said.

Jets' Aaron Rodgers shares thoughts on drones flying over New Jersey: 'What the hell is that?'

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers lives in New Jersey and has noticed the drones recently flying throughout the state.

"Do you know what’s been going on in Jersey lately? And I’m not talking about the football, not talking about the football. There’s been some crazy things going on. There is some drones in the sky," Rodgers said during a recent appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, who has held briefings with Homeland Security, the FBI, Secret Service and state police officials, told Fox News Monday he’s seen no evidence of concern for public safety.

A video was shown of a drone in Bedminster, New Jersey, prompting Rodgers to ask, "What the hell is that?"

Rodgers noted the drone in the video is "large" and that he doesn’t know what is going on with the drones.

"There is other videos that I’ve seen, and I’ve talked to some friends of mine that are police officers — shoutout Mario. There’s some interesting things going on. Interesting things with the drones. I don’t know what’s going on with them. Maybe it’s just some kids messing around, maybe not though," Rodgers said.

The Jets quarterback just wants answers about what the drones are being used for.

AARON RODGERS GETS TESTY WITH REPORTER WHEN ASKED TO REFLECT ON JETS' DREADFUL PLAYOFF DROUGHT

"They need to tell us what’s going on. It's military or not military, UAP or whatever the hell it is. But there’s people in Jersey, it’s people interested on what the hell is going on with these drones."

Fox News contributor Brett Velicovich thinks these drones may not be benign, adding another country may be operating the drones.

The large drones have been spotted with smaller, more rapidly maneuverable drones, resembling what are referred to as "drone motherships" that have been deployed in Ukraine, Russia and China. The motherships launch smaller drones, which do not have the necessary range antennas to carry them a further distance. That suggests, according to Velicovich, that a foreign adversary could be at play in New Jersey.

Murphy said there were 49 drone sightings Sunday night alone. And though that total might be somewhat exaggerated, "it's really frustrating that we don’t have more answers as to where they’re coming from and why they’re doing what they’re doing."

Rodgers encouraged New Jersey residents to film what they see.

"Film it. Film all of it, especially if you live out by Woody (Johnson) and (Donald) Trump’s course. Film everything," Rodgers said.

"Be safe out there all my fellow New Jerseyans, Be safe out there."

Aaron Rodgers gets testy with reporter when asked to reflect on Jets' dreadful playoff drought

The New York Jets’ awful playoff drought continued on Sunday with a loss to the Miami Dolphins.

It has now been 14 straight years since the Jets have made the playoffs. New York has not made the postseason since the 2010 season when Rex Ryan was the head coach, Darrelle Revis was patrolling the secondary and Mark Sanchez was slinging the pigskin around the field.

Even as the Jets built their team around four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and close confidants of his, the team has only appeared to get worse. The Jets dropped to 3-10 with the loss to the Dolphins and could only finish the season 7-10 if they win their final four games.

Rodgers didn’t appear to want to hear about the playoff drought when he was asked to reflect on it.

"What’s the question?" Rodgers asked tersely when a reporter brought up the drought.

"I mean I’ve been here, I’ve started one year. I’m a part of it for one year. It’s disappointing."

RAMS HOLD OFF BILLS IN NFL'S HIGHEST-SCORING GAME OF 2024 SEASON

Rodgers threw for 339 yards and had a touchdown pass in the loss to Miami. It was the first time since December 2021 he’s thrown for at least 300 yards in a single game.

"We have to find a way to finish, give our best when our best is required," Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said. "And not getting that accomplished, I've got to look at myself first."

Davante Adams, who the Jets acquired before the trade deadline, said the team is "playing for our pride at this point."

Tua Tagovailoa's clutch touchdown passes lift Dolphins to overtime win over Jets

The Miami Dolphins made a splash on Sunday afternoon.

Tua Tagovailoa threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jonnu Smith on the first drive of overtime to give the Dolphins a 32-26 win over the New York Jets and keep their playoff chances alive.

Miami and New York battled all game long.

Dolphins running back De’Von Achane started the scoring for the Dolphins with a 2-yard run in the first quarter. The next touchdown was scored in the second quarter when Jets running back Isaiah Davis ran in for a 17-yard score. Davis’ touchdown put the Jets up 10-9.

The Jets looked as though they were getting ahead in the third quarter.

Aaron Rodgers threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams and Anders Carlson hit a 40-yard field goal. The Jets took a 23-15 lead into the final quarter.

Tagovailoa led Miami on a nine-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. The 2-point conversion was also completed on a pass to Jaylen Waddle.

GIANTS FAN SENDS MESSAGE TO TEAM CO-OWNER AMID ABYSMAL 2024 SEASON

A pair of field goals sent the game into overtime. The Jets’ offense never took the field.

Tagovailoa was 33-of-47 passing with 331 yards and two touchdown passes. Hill had 10 catches for 115 yards and Waddle had nine catches for 99 yards.

Rodgers went over 300 yards passing for the first time since Dec. 12, 2021.

Adams had nine catches for 109 yards along with the touchdown. Garrett Wilson led the team with seven catches for 114 yards, including a 42-yard catch.

However, it was Miami that buried New York’s playoff chances firmly in the ground.

It was the Dolphins’ fourth win in their last five games and their sixth win overall. The Dolphins need to win at least three of their final four games to possibly sneak into the postseason with a logjam for the final three AFC wild-card spots.

Miami only has the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens in front of them for the final playoff spot.

Aaron Rodgers says it 'ridiculous' to believe he has more to prove, still hopes to return to Jets next year

The New York Jets entered the 2024 season with considerably high expectations.

After four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers went down to injury in last year's season opener, the star quarterback was able to recover and entered this year's regular season in good health. However, the wheels came off quickly in 2024, and the Jets enter Week 14 with just three wins.

While Rodgers has not had the impact anyone associated with the Jets likely hoped for, the 41-year-old still wants to play for Gang Green next season. He also pushed back against any narrative suggesting he needs to perform at a certain level in order to improve his odds of remaining on the Jets roster in 2025.

"That is ridiculous, with all due respect," Rodgers responded when asked about the idea he needed to prove something to the Jets brass down the stretch. "If they want me to stay, fantastic. If it takes these five games, maybe they don’t know what I bring to the table. That being said, I'd love to play really friggin well the last five games."

SUPER BOWL CHAMP RIPS JETS' AARON RODGERS FOR HIS 'SMUGNESS' AMID SEASON OF LACKLUSTER PLAY

Rodgers also doubled down on his hopes that his relationship with the Jets will continue into 2025, but he also conceded that he "won't be upset" if the franchise ultimately decided to move on.

"I just redid my house here in Jersey. My goal was to play a few more years here. I'd like to play well and feel like I'm wanted back. If not, I will not be offended, I won't be upset".

If it turns out the interest from the Jets is not mutual, Rodgers said he would then weigh his options.

"I'll look at other options, but first, I'll think about whether I want to play or not," Rodgers said.

From a statistical point of view, Rodgers is having a down season. He's thrown for 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions through 12 games this season. He has not finished any game this season with 300 or more passing yards.

RFK Jr asks Aaron Rodgers about getting into politics in Netflix docuseries trailer

The New York Jets quarterback's three-part docuseries on Netflix, called "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma," will be released on Dec. 17.

The trailer for the show was released during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

In the trailer, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asked the Jets quarterback about getting into politics.

"Have you thought about going into politics?" Kennedy said.

There were rumors that Kennedy was considering Rodgers to be his vice president while he was running for president. Kennedy instead picked Nicole Shanahan, a California lawyer and philanthropist, as his running mate.

Kennedy suspended his campaign in August and endorsed Republican presidential nominee and eventual President-elect Trump

Trump tapped Kennedy to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

While Rodgers was not selected to be Kennedy’s running mate, he said the documentary is "pretty wide open" with what will be included in it.

"Yeah, I’m thankful for the last year. You know, when Gotham reached out after I got hurt we had a good conversation, and it was fun to have him along for the ride and Liam and Sarah and some really amazing people I got to meet along the way," Rodgers said during his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"It chronicles a lot of the rehab; it chronicles a trip down to Costa Rica where we did Ayahuasca. There is some great backstory stuff you know from my 18 years in Green Bay and some interesting interviews. So yeah, I mean it’s pretty wide open, it’s talking about all different types of topics in the episodes."

"It was definitely vulnerable to open up and allow them to be around and to take them to some of these things but yeah, I’m excited. I haven’t seen the final cuts or anything, but you know I’m thankful for the people I’ve met in the process and that there’s this history of the most difficult and most rewarding year of my life, kind of now to go back and look at in 20 years."

The Jets are currently 3-9 and have lost three games in a row. Rodgers has struggled this season, completing 62.5% of his passes for 2,627 yards while throwing 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich was asked after the Jets' 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks about potentially making a quarterback change.

"Not as of today," Ulbrich replied, leaving the door open for a change.

On Monday, Ulbrich shut a potential change down, saying he has great belief in Rodgers, and that he gives the team the best opportunity to win.

Rodgers and the Jets will look to stop their slide when they take on the Miami Dolphins on the road on Sunday.

Super Bowl champ rips Jets' Aaron Rodgers for his 'smugness' amid season of lackluster play

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets suffered another heartbreaking defeat against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

The Jets had a 21-6 lead in the second quarter of the game but failed to score in the second half and allowed the Seahawks to get back into it and win. Seattle scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to pick up the 26-21 victory.

Rodgers was 21-for-39 with 185 passing yards, two touchdown passes and an interception. Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams returned it for a touchdown.

Former Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon scrutinized Rodgers for his performances as of late while still maintaining the same type of personality.

"That’s who Aaron Rodgers is. That’s who he has always been," Colon said after the game on SNY. "He’s just covered that up because of the way he has played. You can be smug and cocky when you are winning MVPs, and you’re balling. You can make every play on the field, you can be smug. The problem is his smugness and his play aren’t matching up.

"The issue moving forward is that if you are a Jets’ fan, you’re damn right you have to be upset. All of us have sat through the Zach Wilson era. And we were told by Joe Douglas and his regime that once we get Aaron Rodgers, the bad times are behind us.

"They’re not. If anything, this is an ultra reset. So yeah, if you are a Jets fan, you have to be damn p---ed off at Aaron Rodgers because when we give you the ball, the Aaron Rodgers, in game-winning situations, this is Kobe (Bryant). This should be an easy W for us. And our defense isn’t horrible."

Colon, a Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers, critiqued the decision-making as well, citing the Jets going 1-5 after firing Robert Saleh and not doing too much to inspire fans with the offense despite having Davante Adams, according to Awful Announcing.

"… I’m looking at a quarterback who will be wearing a gold jacket one day," he added. "And he’s the worst in the NFL. If you are a Jets fan, burn the whole damn thing up. Burn the whole building up, nothing makes sense. Everything is worse than it was before."

Rodgers said after the game it came down to execution.

"Plays at the end of the second quarter cost us this game," Rodgers said. "Then comes the fourth quarter — it’s execution, it’s strain, it’s the little things, it’s accuracy. And we just have a lot to go around, myself included, first and foremost."

Seahawks stars Geno Smith, Leonard Williams burn former team; Seattle extends winning streak

Geno Smith and Leonard Williams were among the catalysts in the Seattle Seahawks’ win over the New York Jets as they both put together solid performances in a revenge game of sorts.

Both Smith and Williams starred for the Jets at points during their careers.

Smith was a second-round pick of the Jets in 2013. He played with them from 2013 to 2016 before he parted ways with them and eventually found himself with the Seahawks. Williams was with the Jets from 2015 to the middle of the 2019 season, when he was traded to the New York Giants. He was traded to the Seahawks last season.

Smith had 206 passing yards and one touchdown pass, and Williams had two sacks and an interception returned 92 yards for a touchdown. Seattle won the game 26-21.

New York had a 21-7 lead in the second quarter when Aaron Rodgers’ pass landed in the hands of Williams with about 7:39 to go in the first half. It sparked the epic comeback.

Smith led the Seahawks on a nine-play, 71-yard drive that ended with a Zach Charbonnet 8-yard touchdown run. Seattle was able to get new sets of downs thanks to two Jets penalties on fourth down. They eventually burned them for it.

Seattle’s defense clamped down on the Jets’ offense in the second half. Seattle had a ton of special teams miscues in the first half that helped the Jets take advantage early.

An early fumble on a kickoff led to a Jets touchdown and then Kene Nwangwu returned a kick 99 yards for a score.

Rodgers was 21-of-39 with 185 yards and two touchdown passes. Davante Adams and Isaiah Davis each had touchdown catches.

The Seahawks moved to 7-5 on the season and are on a three-game winning streak.

New York fell to 3-9 on the season.

Aaron Rodgers 'long shot' to return to Jets in 2025: report

The final six games of the New York Jets’ 2024 season could be the last time fans see Aaron Rodgers in the green and white.

Ahead of the Jets’ Week 13 game against the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL Network reported that it was a "long shot" for Rodgers to return to the team in 2025.

Rodgers is in the midst of the worst season of his career. He has 2,442 passing yards, 17 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. It’s the second time in the last eight years he’s had at least seven interceptions in a single season. He had 12 in 2022 with the Green Bay Packers.

The report noted Rodgers’ $35 million option bonus for the 2025 season if the team decided to bring him back.

The star quarterback’s name had been in the rumor mill during the team’s bye week. He addressed reports he had already decided he wasn’t going to return to the Jets in an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option," he said.

He also debunked reports that he wants to play elsewhere next season instead of with the Jets.

RAVENS STAR ADMITS 'TALL TASK' STOPPING SAQUON BARKLEY THIS WEEK, BUT DERRICK HENRY COULD BE THE SOLUTION

"As far as my future goes, I haven’t told anybody in my life that I want to play in 2025 and not on the Jets," he said. "That’s 100% false. I actually said the opposite. I said that I’m going to wait and see what happens at the end of the season, and if they want me back, what happens with [interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich], what happens with the offensive staff, obviously the GM at the time. They just fired Joe.

"There’s a lot of things out of my control when it comes to that, but I’ve really enjoyed my time in New York. Obviously, we haven’t had the success we all wanted to have. But I’ve made some great friendships on the team. I’ve enjoyed living in Jersey, I’ve enjoyed my time in the city, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the fans. And I came here to win here. So I’m not jumping off ship like, ‘Oh, I definitely want to play and not in New York.’"

Rodgers was off of the injury report going into the game against Seattle. But he acknowledged his age in his appearance on McAfee’s show.

"When you’re 40 going on 41, you’re obviously at the end of your career so, obviously if it’s New York, they have to want me to be here, and then new GM, new staff, all have to want me to be with the Jets. And then body-wise, got to see how I’m feeling, and if I want to sign up to go back to the grind," he said.

Rodgers has been battling numerous injuries following his Achilles tear from 2023, including ankle, hamstring and knee injuries this year.

Aaron Rodgers questions 'journalistic integrity' amid reports he says are 'limited in its truth'

The New York Jets’ 2024 campaign has been full of tribulations and adversity, and as such, owner Woody Johnson decided to fire head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas with a new regime in mind for the future.

With that being the reality the team faces at 3-8, the future of Aaron Rodgers as the team’s starting quarterback has also come into question. It was a topic of conversation during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," but the four-time MVP had time for those reports that had been coming out, both individually and about the team, during these hard times.

While Rodgers addressed his Jets future during his appearance, he also spoke at length about the media, and not in a good way.

"There is not a lot of journalistic integrity anymore, I don’t think," Rodgers said, which prompted McAfee to respond by saying, "Standards."

"The standards are what they are," Rodgers replied. "Listen, some of the stuff that I’ve read I would say the majority is limited in its truth, and questionable in its content. Meaning, I don’t understand why some of the articles written last year, because it seemed like they were really trying to ruin people’s lives."

It is unclear which articles Rodgers specifically was discussing when it came to the Jets last year while he was out with an Achilles tear. However, there were numerous Jets storylines, including Zach Wilson’s struggles and whether the team should move on from him, while the focus on Rodgers’ recovery and potential quick return was reported on constantly.

AARON RODGERS DEBUNKS REPORTS SAYING HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY FOR JETS IN 2025: ‘100% FALSE’

When it comes to reports about himself, Rodgers has been vocal in the past about how small his inner circle is, and no one would find anyone talking to the press on his behalf. He reminded everyone of that on Tuesday as well.

"Nobody that I have a relationship with does that," he said. "I don’t have anybody, I don’t believe, that is in my inner circle that would spend any time talking to a reporter about other people’s s---, or trying to slam ‘em, or trying to protect themselves. But, unfortunately, this business has turned into a lot of cover you’re a--, you know. I guess that’s part of what this is, people trying to cover their a--, so they gotta have a fall guy. It was [Nathaniel] Hackett, It was Robert [Saleh], it was Joe [Douglas], then it’s me.

"That’s fine, I can take it, I don’t care. Those guys can, too."

Rodgers added that he still speaks with his old head coach, saying Saleh is "totally fine."

"It’s still like the slander that went his way, I think was totally unfair. I think the slander that went Hack’s way, and has gone Todd’s [Downing] way, it’s interesting the motivation behind people who would try and leak things. Then again, the actual content and fact around the leaking is usually very limited, I would say."

Rodgers did admit that "every now and then" these reports from various outlets do end up being true, but he feels the majority is "overexaggerated" and lacks the facts about the matter.

One of those reports came from The Athletic, which stated Rodgers wants to continue playing in 2025, but not for the Jets. Rodgers said on the show that it was "100% false" and that, if he does decide to play next season, the Jets would be his first option.

The Jets’ storylines will continue to flood the papers and websites as the season comes to its natural end, and it surely will involve Rodgers as he continues to salvage this rollercoaster campaign.

However, Rodgers’ words perhaps come as a warning, at least in reports regarding himself: Don’t believe everything you read.

Aaron Rodgers mocks people still giving 'vax status,' says to 'look out' with RFK Jr in Trump's admin

Aaron Rodgers made his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, and while the New York Jets were a main topic, vaccines also crept its way into the conversation.

Rodgers is infamous for his public comments about the COVID-19 vaccine, which included his time with the Green Bay Packers, where he said he was "immunized" in 2021. He would later admit he regretted using that verbiage when asked if he had the vaccine or not.

What sparked the talk of vaccines on Tuesday was Rodgers mentioning that he does not "give a s--- about what any of these people are saying about me."

McAfee said that it was a good mindset to have, as Rodgers added he does not listen to people he would not take advice from. Then, Rodgers got sarcastic with his next comment.

"They still got to do their vax status, they haven’t been doing it, they kinda stopped doing it. They still got to let everybody know, they got to let everybody know what their vax status is, so people can put it in the right context," Rodgers said.

McAfee fueled the new topic, saying he still gets asked by people if Rodgers would ever forget about those who attacked him during the vaccine.

"Remember the old adage, ‘Forgive and forget?’" Rodgers asked. "There is a little extra something that goes with that and if there is some sort of admission maybe wrong-doing at some point along the way. Like maybe the ridiculous Orwellian things, mandates that we put on society or maybe the things that we said or did or maybe this miracle vaccine wasn’t always meant to be and some of things we did and said to be people, ‘Hmm, we’re wrong.’ Then, I think we can all kind of move past it."

Rodgers also brought up Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who President-elect Donald Trump chose as his Department of Health and Human Services secretary, saying to "look out."

"Hey look, you know, maybe things will change with Bobby in charge now," Rodgers said, smirking. "Look out, man, look out.

"There are some people quaking in their boots right now, tell you that much."

Rodgers and Kennedy had been linked earlier this year, when the former was rumored to be the latter’s running mate in this year’s presidential election. However, Rodgers ultimately said in May that he chose to continue his NFL playing career rather than get into politics.

Aaron Rodgers debunks reports saying he doesn't want to play for Jets in 2025: '100% false'

With the New York Jets' season looking grim at 3-8, the future of Aaron Rodgers as the team’s quarterback remains cloudy.

The four-time MVP, however, decided to comment on the rumors and reports regarding his future with Gang Green during his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday. He said his mind isn't made up about whether he wants to play in 2025.

"I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option," Rodgers told McAfee and the crew.

Rodgers also debunked reports that he wants to play elsewhere next season instead of with the Jets.

FORMER JETS GM JOE DOUGLAS FELT ‘RELIEF’ AFTER FIRING: REPORT

Before making those comments, McAfee broke down the reports, which included strained relationships at One Jets Drive with Rodgers, while others said the Jets are looking to move on from the soon-to-be-41-year-old signal caller heading into next season.

"It’s all true," Rodgers sarcastically said while laughing. "…when it comes to me, my circle is really small. I’m not talking to people who are talking to [reporters] like that. At best, it’s a third game of telephone with me and I don’t have relationships with reporters who are going to break stories like this."

Reports or not, Rodgers is well aware that a new regime is incoming for the Jets, so like he said, there are things out of his control.

The Jets still have six games remaining on the schedule following the bye week, but Rodgers will be taking things a step at a time when it comes to what 2025 has in store for him.

NFL Network even reported that Rodgers doesn’t want to do any scans "out of fear of having to come off the field."

Rodgers said there has been no mandate to get scans for his injuries, but rather his good relationship with the Jets’ medical staff has led to conversations about how his body feels. Being in the league for two decades, Rodgers is confident he knows when he’s good to play or not.

It's been a whirlwind season for Rodgers and the Jets, who are more than likely heading to their 14th straight year without a playoff berth. The lack of success has led to the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas, as owner Woody Johnson tries again at bringing in the right regime to turn the tide.

Whether that blueprint involves Rodgers for another year remains to be seen, but it’s clear, while the Jets will make their assessment, the quarterback will also be thinking about his future after this tumultuous campaign.

Aaron Rodgers has resisted injury scans to avoid being benched: report

It's becoming increasingly clear that Aaron Rodgers, who turns 41 next week, is not at 100% health.

Rodgers ruptured his Achilles on just his fourth snap in a New York Jet uniform last year, but he looked like he turned back the clock a bit in Week 3 against the New England Patriots.

However, since then, he's looked like a 40-year-old quarterback off a major injury.

Rodgers has limped off the field several times in the last few weeks, but apparently, he is doing whatever he can to avoid coming off the field.

That, reportedly, includes avoiding scans on potential injuries.

The NFL Network reported that Rodgers has "resisted getting scans done, not wanting to reveal the severity of his injuries out of fear of having to come off the field."

MICHIGAN ALUM TOM BRADY HELPED CONVINCE NO. 1 RECRUIT TO SWAY FROM LSU TO WOLVERINES: REPORT

Sure, one can't blame Rodgers for wanting to play – but it's also very clear he is not the solution, but rather, a part of the problem – although there are many.

The Jets are 3-8 after many expected them to break their playoff drought, which is the longest in the big-four professional sports leagues in North America.

Earlier this week, owner Woody Johnson fired general manager Joe Douglas. Last month, he fired Robert Saleh.

It is becoming increasingly unlikely that Rodgers will return to the Jets next season. In fact, one report said Johnson wanted Rodgers benched after the team's Week 4 loss to the Denver Broncos, where Rodgers apparently suffered a hamstring injury that he has said to essentially be ignoring.

New York is on a bye week, so perhaps Rodgers can convince Jets brass to keep him next season if he can get a little healthy – but many signs say the front office's mind is made up.

Rodgers is completing 63.4% of his passes, but he is on pace for his second-lowest yard total in a full season, and his 88.9 QBR would be the lowest he's ever posted in a full season.

Aaron Rodgers interested in playing in 2025 but not with Jets: report

The honeymoon is officially over.

The New York Jets’ tumultuous season has led to a massive overhaul that saw owner Woody Johnson fire head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in a span of just a few weeks, and, according to a report, the quarterback position could be next on the chopping block.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Saturday that tensions between Johnson and Aaron Rodgers have boiled over this season, which began with Super Bowl aspirations.

Sources told the NFL insider that Johnson has lost confidence in Rodgers’ ability to end the Jets 14-season playoff drought, and while no decisions have been made, Rodgers "could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks."

Sources around the league even speculated the four-time league MVP could be cut before the season ends.

But the feeling is reportedly mutual.

JETS OWNER WOODY JOHNSON FLOATED BENCHING AARON RODGERS BEFORE FIRING COACH, GM: REPORT

Russini reported that the relationship between Johnson and Rodgers has been strained for months, and, according to sources with the team and around the league, the former Green Bay Packers star wants to play next season, just not with the Jets.

The report follows an earlier report from the publication that indicated Johnson’s desire to bench Rodgers after the team’s Week 4 loss to the Denver Broncos. According to sources, Johnson was talked out of the move, but, after another loss, the decision to fire Saleh was made.

Hoping to restart the offense, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was then stripped of play-calling duties just a few days later in favor of passing game coordinator Todd Downing. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, the team’s one bright spot at the time, was also promoted to interim head coach.

Despite the changes, the Jets went 1-5 after Saleh’s exit and sit at third in the AFC East with a 3-8 record heading into their bye week. Douglas was fired this week after the team’s latest loss, and the Jets appear further away from a playoff push than ever before.
