CES 2025: Self-driving cars were everywhere, plus other transportation tech trends
Even before CES 2025 kicked off a few trends began to emerge — or more accurately, some gaps appeared. All U.S. and some European automakers that have helped turn CES into an auto show were absent. Several Chinese automakers filled that void, notably Zeekr, the EV brand owned by China’s Geely Holdings. Wey, a premium […]

Awesome Games Done Quick raises another $2.5 million for a cancer nonprofit
The weeklong speedrunning marathon Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 wrapped up in the wee hours of Sunday morning, and organizers say it managed to pull in a total of $2,556,305 for Prevent Cancer Foundation.
As could be expected, the event in Pittsburgh brought a good mix of skill and silliness: there was a Crazy Taxi speedrun featuring a live band; FunkopotamusWes played the piano during his run of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, using his head and feet to control the game via motion controls; and Dr. Doot did an Elden Ring bosses speedrun using an electric saxophone. Yes, the saxophone did make little doot doot sounds the entire time.
The marathon ran continuously from January 5-12, so there are many, many more great moments besides these to catch up on if you missed it. Everything can be found on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel.
AGDQ is one of several charity-focused events held by Games Done Quick every year, and the next one, Back to Black is coming up in February. Highlighting Black hosts and speedrunners, that event (Feb 6-9) will raise money for the racial justice nonprofit, Race Forward. Over the years, Games Done Quick has raised more than $54 million for various charities including Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders. AGDQ raised about $2.5 million during its marathon last year, too.

Miley Cyrus Says L.A. Fire 'Hits Me Hard in the Heart' After 2018 Wreckage
The ongoing Pacific Palisades wildfires can be especially difficult for individuals like Miley Cyrus, who previously lost property in similar natural disasters.
“This image hits me hard in the heart today. This is a photo taken of my front porch in 2018 after losing our house in the Woolsey fires,” Cyrus, 32, wrote in a social media message on Saturday, January 11, sharing a picture of the rubble. “It’s a feeling you don’t ever forget. Walking up to the door you would pass through daily, looking forward to being greeted by the ones you love like you always do but instead being met by a pile of ash and rubble.”
Cyrus continued, “My soul aches for those who are experiencing this devestation [sic] firsthand and I cry for my city. It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream’ but the reality today is wreckage and destruction.”
The Grammy winner also shared a link to the Malibu Foundation, a nonprofit that helps victims rebuild after wildfires, and a handful of other GoFundMe campaigns for specific victims.
Celebrities Share Personal Photos of Heartbreaking Los Angeles Wildfires
“Time, resources and dedication from inside and outside of our community will heal us, but it hurts deeply for now,” Cyrus concluded her Saturday note.
A string of wildfires broke out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7, rapidly devastating thousands of acres of property across surrounding neighborhoods. Many celebrities and other residents have lost their homes to the blaze. Others, meanwhile, left the city limits following mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders.
It is not publicly known whether Cyrus’ current residence was affected by the ongoing natural disaster, but one of her previous houses was burnt to the ground in a 2018 fire. At the time, Cyrus was married to actor Liam Hemsworth. (Cyrus and Hemsworth, 34, split in 2019, finalizing their divorce the next year.)
“It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what’s left of my house. Love,” Hemsworth wrote via Instagram in November 2018, sharing an image of their front porch and a “Love” sign. “Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires.”
He continued at the time, “Malibu is a strong community and this event is only going to make it stronger. Thankful for all the great local guys [who] helped keep smaller fires out around my property. I love u guys. I love you, Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California.”
Which Stars Have Been Affected by the Los Angeles Fires?
Cyrus and Hemsworth had evacuated with their menagerie of pets.
“My brother Luke called and said, ‘Get ready, they’re going to issue an evacuation.’ The whole time that I was packing up these animals, I had moments where I’m like, ‘It’s not going to get this far; this is a waste of time, and my house isn’t going to burn down,’” Hemsworth recalled to Men’s Health in a 2020 profile. “And, of course, it did burn down, and it was a s—-y thing to live through.”
While the then-couple and their animals were all safe, he added to the outlet that “pretty much everything” left in the house was “replaceable to a point.”
Three years later, Cyrus appeared to reference their relationship and the fire in her Grammy-winning 2023 single, “Flowers.”
“We were right ’til we weren’t / Built a home and watched it burn,” she sings in the opening stanza. “Mm, I didn’t wanna leave you / I didn’t wanna lie / Started to cry, but then remembered / I can buy myself flowers.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth have since moved on with Maxx Morando and Gabriella Brooks, respectively.

NFL fans rip refs for missed call in Bills-Broncos playoff game
NFL officials are expected to be sharp in the playoffs with a shot at the Super Bowl hanging in the balance, but fans found they missed a crucial penalty during Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.
The Bills drove down the field right out of halftime. Josh Allen got the offense within a few yards of a touchdown. On third down, Allen was forced to take a sack because there were no receivers open. But there was a reason why no pass-catchers could break away from their defender.

Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid appeared to be held in the end zone by Denver Broncos defensive back Patrick Surtain II. The officials didn’t throw a flag on the play and the Bills were forced to settle for a field goal to make the game 13-7.
Head referee Bill Vinovich was seen talking to Allen before Buffalo kicked the ball away.
STEELERS' GEORGE PICKENS MAKES STUNNING REMARK AFTER PLAYOFF LOSS VS RAVENS
NFL fans were not happy with the lack of a penalty, especially in such a crucial spot.
Buffalo was looking to stave off any Denver comeback attempt. They were able to score a touchdown in the second half to take the lead. The Broncos had a chance to tie the game but Will Lutz missed a field goal.
Bo Nix started the scoring with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Troy Franklin in the first quarter. The Broncos haven’t scored since.
