Broncos part ways with linebackers coach who was arrested after allegedly assaulting officer

The Denver Broncos parted ways with linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite on Wednesday following the assistant’s arrest at an airport last month.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton made a statement on the move.

"After thorough discussions as an organization, I met with Michael Wilhoite and informed him we have decided to part ways," Payton said, via ESPN. "We recognize the serious nature of the allegations against him and believe this is the best course of action at this time. I appreciate Michael's contributions to the Broncos and am confident he will move forward in a positive direction."

Wilhoite was arrested on Feb. 23 on a charge of second-degree assault on a peace officer, jail records showed.

Wilhoite had left his car unattended for a time, and an officer at the airport approached him and told him he could not do that, KDVR-TV reported, citing a probable cause statement. He allegedly told the officer explicitly to shut up.

After being told again about leaving the car unattended, Wilhoite allegedly approached the officer in "an aggressive manner and bumped his chest into the victim causing him to step backwards."

Wilhoite was pushed away before he allegedly punched the officer in the face. His next court date is March 10.

Wilhoite was an undrafted free agent out of Washburn when he got his first taste of NFL action in 2012 with the San Francisco 49ers. He played for the 49ers through the 2016 season.

He signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 and only played one year for them.

Wilhoite set his sights on the NFL coaching ranks in 2019 when he signed as a special teams assistant with the New Orleans Saints on Sean Payton’s staff. He was then on the Los Angeles Chargers’ staff in 2021as their linebackers coach. He was let go after the 2022 season.

In 2023, he rejoined Payton but with the Broncos.

The Broncos went from a team at the bottom of the league in points and yards allowed in 2023 to one of the best defenses in the NFL in 2024 – ranked third in points allowed and seventh in yards allowed.

Denver made the playoffs but lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild card round.

Federal appeals court sides with Trump on firing head of watchdog agency

6 March 2025 at 04:26

A federal appeals court cleared the way for President Donald Trump to fire Hampton Dellinger, the head of the Office of Special Counsel, on Wednesday.

Dellinger, appointed to the role by former President Joe Biden, sued the Trump administration in Washington, D.C., federal court after his Feb. 7 firing.

D.C. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson had argued in a filing last month that Dellinger's firing was "unlawful."

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia sided with the Trump administration in a Wednesday ruling, however. Dellinger is likely to appeal the case to the Supreme Court.

Jackson claimed that the court "finds that the elimination of the restrictions on plaintiff’s removal would be fatal to the defining and essential feature of the Office of Special Counsel as it was conceived by Congress and signed into law by the President: its independence. The Court concludes that they must stand."

Dellinger has maintained the argument that, by law, he can only be dismissed from his position for job performance problems, which were not cited in an email dismissing him from his post.

Earlier in February, liberal Supreme Court justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson voted to outright deny the administration’s request to approve the firing.

Conservative justices Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito dissented, saying the lower court overstepped. They also cast doubt on whether courts have the authority to restore to office someone the president has fired. While acknowledging that some officials appointed by the president have contested their removal, Gorsuch wrote in his opinion that "those officials have generally sought remedies like backpay, not injunctive relief like reinstatement."

Here’s why the C1 chip doesn’t have mmWave 5G, says Kuo

6 March 2025 at 04:06

Apple’s first modem, the C1 chip, had one notable omission: there’s no support for mmWave 5G, the ultra-fast variant of 5G.

While I expressed my view at the time that this was no big deal, given that there’s been very limited rollout by carriers, it seems there may be a very specific reason for the decision …

Meghan Markle is explaining why she opted not to film her new Netflix show inside her actual home in Montecito, California.

“I wanted to protect that safe haven,” Meghan, 43, told People in an interview published on Wednesday. March 5. “We’re a close-knit family, and I love those moments — putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, having sacred time together at the end of the day.”

She noted: “Our kitchen is where Mama just cooks for the family, and with a crew of 80-plus people, that’s a lot of people to have in your house!”

Meghan and Prince Harry, 40, moved into their coastal property in 2020 after leaving the United Kingdom and their official royal duties behind. They share two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

Was Meghan Markle’s Netflix Show Actually Filmed in Her Montecito Home?

With Love, Meghan, produced by the couple’s Archewell Productions, highlights Meghan’s cooking, gardening and more, alongside her celebrity friends. In addition to a brief cameo by Prince Harry, Mindy Kaling, Alice Waters and Abigail Spencer appear throughout the series. Meghan used a rental home for indoor scenes, and filmed outdoor segments in her own garden, orchard and chicken coop.

The show premiered on Monday, March 4, coinciding with the launch of Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.

“Archie did the [filming clapboard]! Sweet moments,” she told People. “They would also come with my husband and visit me on-set, and I loved that my children were able to watch me working and see the balance of that and understand what Mama does and is working to create and share. It was really special because up until then, they hadn’t seen me at work.”

The Duchess of Sussex gushed about her family life in a segment on The Drew Barrymore Show that is due to air on Thursday, March 6.

“OK, what’s your favorite thing that you see in your kids that you go, ‘Oh, that’s their dad?’” Drew Barrymore asked Meghan.

Meghan replied: “Oh, some of the words that they still say with a British accent, so they’ll say z-e-b-r-a and what else do they say? They have these little moments where it comes out and because they have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him and I think it’s adorable.”

Meghan also told Barrymore, 50, that she incorporates bedtime stories into her kids’ routines when she travels, and will “always pack a really thin book and I’ll videotape myself reading it so whoever’s with them or Papa can say, ‘Here’s mama reading your bedtime story,’” she said.

She added, “You find ways to show up for each other and if that’s the one thing that I can convey through the show or through As Ever as a brand, I want people to know you can show up for each other because you know how good it feels when someone shows up for you.”
