Why Meghan Markle’s Brand Name Change Shouldn’t Surprise Anyone

20 February 2025 at 10:18

Meghan Markle has changed the name of her lifestyle brand from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever — but the swap was years in the making.

The name was changed to reflect the expansive range of products that will be offered — and to suggest something geographically broader and more expansive than ARO, which referred to Meghan and Prince Harry‘s adopted California home (i.e. “American Riviera”), Us learned.

While the Duchess of Sussex, 43, will indeed be sharing things created and grown at home, the brand’s vision is larger in scope. Meghan also has a personal connection to the new name, Us understands.

Meghan has always loved the phrase “As Ever” — used to convey “as it’s always been” — and has signed off letters using the phrase for years.

How Meghan Markle’s New Brand Logo Nods to Prince Harry

Us understands that Meghan registered the company name years ago before making the official change earlier this week.

The brand will officially launch in the spring of 2025.

Meghan announced the name change via Instagram on Monday, February 17.

“Last year, I had thought, ‘American Riviera, that sounds like such a great name.’ It’s my neighborhood; it’s a nickname for Santa Barbara, but it limited me to things that were just manufactured and grown in this area,” Meghan said in the video.

Meghan said she confirmed the name change when “Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business. which was huge. So I thought about it, and I’ve been waiting for a moment to share a name that I had secured in 2022, and this is the moment, and it’s called As Ever.”

“As Ever essentially means ‘as it’s always been,’ and if you’ve followed me since 2014 with The Tig [her former lifestyle blog], you know I’ve always loved cooking and crafting and gardening — this is what I do,” the duchess said.

“And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can, so as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she added.

Meghan dropped Easter eggs about the name change before it was officially announced. Since launching her personal Instagram account on January 1, Meghan has signed off almost every post with the term “as ever.”

The only posts in which Meghan didn’t use the phrase was her first New Year’s Day post, which had no caption, as well as a post about Prince Harry’s Invictus Games on February 9.

Why Tom Holland Wasn't 'Allowed' to Buy His Own Non-Alcoholic Beer

Tom Holland made a hilarious video documenting how he almost got denied from buying his own non-alcoholic beer.

In a video posted via his Instagram Story on Tuesday, February 18, Holland, 28, brought viewers along on his mission to find his non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero, at Target.

“So I haven’t been in the States for a while,” Holland said in the video, which has since circulated on other social media platforms. “And I’m gonna go visit some Bero on the shelves, out in the wild.”

After going to two different Targets with no luck, the Spider-Man star said he eventually found Bero at a third Target store.

“OK, so success! I found some, I bought it,” Holland said while walking through the store’s parking lot.

“They wouldn’t accept my ID because it’s English and I couldn’t prove my age, so a really lovely employee, I guess, scanned their ID,” Holland said.

“Kind of ironic that I wasn’t allowed to buy my own product. But yeah, feeling good. This is exciting,” he added.

Two years into his own sobriety journey, Holland launched Bero in October 2024.

“In early 2022, our founder, Tom Holland, decided to try Dry January. One month turned into one year, and the rest is history,” reads a statement on the brand’s website.

“It was during that first year that Tom was looking for something that just didn’t exist: a non-alcoholic beer that actually tastes great and looks as high-class as a perfectly poured pint. And so the idea for Bero was born,” the site continues.

Tom Holland Says All He 'Could Think About' Was Drinking Before Sobriety

Speaking on Late Night With Seth Meyers last fall, Holland said creating the brand “was a long process.”

“It was a very fun process [and] it was, you know, a lot of trial and error and I had my brothers try it, my friends and family. Everyone would come over and we would really try and figure out how to create something that felt like it was authentically beer,” he said.

“For me, in this journey to sobriety, the thing that I’ve missed most is more the experience of sharing a beer than it is actually the beer itself,” he added.

King Charles III spoke about Prince Harry’s Invictus Games to a former competitor during an outing in London on Wednesday, February 19.

The king, 76, visited the Center for Injury Studies at Imperial College London to highlight the U.K.’s support to injured service personnel in Ukraine, according to a press release issued to Us Weekly.

During the visit, Charles met David Henson, a former British army captain and parasport athlete who competed in the Invictus Games, a sporting tournament Harry founded in 2014 for injured or sick veterans.

In a video published by Hello! Magazine, Henson can be seen demonstrating virtual reality biofeedback technology, used to enhance rehabilitation for those who have experienced limb loss. However, the conversation soon turned to Henson’s connection with the Invictus Games.

“Are you still taking part in games and sports?” Charles asked.

“So I’m a touch too old, I think,” Henson responded.

“I did the Invictus Games in 2014 and 2016, Paralympics in 2016 and I stayed one of the trustees until the end of 2023,” he said. “So I’ve certainly been involved with it. I’m back in the defense industry now, I’m working, I’ve got three children.”

“Fantastic,” Charles replied.

It wasn’t Henson’s first time meeting the king. He was previously pictured with Charles, Harry, and Prince William at the Invictus Games in London in 2014 when he served as captain of Team U.K.

Charles’ remarks came as Harry wrapped up the 2025 games in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada.

Around 550 people from more than 20 countries participated in the event between February 8 to 16.

Dominic Reed, CEO of the Invictus Games, previously told Us Weekly that Harry’s commitment to the games is “unparalleled.”

“I’ve worked with the duke for nearly 12 years now. And what I was saying to people who ask, because people obviously do ask, [is that] his commitment is unparalleled,” he told Us.

“He once described [The Invictus Games] to being his second child,” Reed added. “This was before [his daughter] Lilibet was born, and then he quickly corrected himself, ‘my first child.’ It’s a very important thing to him.”

Queen Camilla hosted Cate Blanchett, Andrew Garfield, and other celebrities at a glitzy Buckingham Palace reception on Tuesday, February 18.

The queen, 77, hosted the reception in celebration of the U.K.’s National Theatre, which she has been patron of since 2022.

Other notable attendees included James Corden, Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, as well as Imelda Staunton, who played Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown, and Lesley Manville, who played Princess Margaret in the same series.

The evening took a dramatic turn when English actor Simon Russell Beale performed “Speak the Speech”, a monologue from Shapespeare’s Hamlet about the art of acting, according to a palace press release issued to Us Weekly.

Some of the attendees, including Gatwa, 32, and actress Sharon D. Clarke, also took to the stage to perform a scene from The Importance of Being Earnest.

Clarke, 58, who played Lady Bracknell, stayed in character before and after the performance, telling Camilla that she “can’t nick any” of her jewelry, The Telegraph reported.

“I feel I could borrow a few, for a State Dinner. I think it would be just the job,” Camilla joked, per the outlet. “That’s a very big diamond.”

Camilla took over as patron of the National Theatre from Meghan Markle, who became patron of the arts organization in 2019 shortly after joining the royal family.

The former Suits actress, 43, paid a visit to the theatre when she was pregnant with her eldest child, Prince Archie, 5. The Duchess of Sussex watched a performance inspired by the play War Horse by children from Edith Neville Primary School in Camden, London in 2019.

“As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the U.K. and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role. We can all live a life of service. Service is universal,” a spokesperson for the couple said in February 2021.

Rival As Ever Company Reacts to 'Concern' Over Meghan Markle's Rebrand

A small clothing company called As Ever has addressed Meghan Markle’s decision to use the same name for her lifestyle brand.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, announced that she has renamed her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, to As Ever in a video posted to her Instagram account on Monday, February 17.

However, the name As Ever also belongs to a vintage clothing company based in New York and New Jersey founded in 2017.

“Wow and hello,” the company’s founder, Mark Kolski, began a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday, February 18, after Meghan’s announcement.

Meghan Markle Drops American Riviera Orchard, Names Company As Ever

“I want to say thank you to all the old friends who know and love our small family brand As Ever, and also say hi to all those that have just become aware we exist. In the last 36 hours, there has been an outpouring of support and concern regarding recent events around our namesake brand,” the statement said. “We are aware. We are not affiliated.”

Kolski said the brand’s journey began in 2015 when he reworked vintage military attire into signature tanker pants for his wife. The company officially launched in 2017.

“It’s 2025. We are grateful to still be here making clothing in New York & New Jersey. We are grateful for all the customers coast to coast and worldwide that have supported our venture. We will continue As Ever,” the statement concluded.

Us Weekly has reached out to Kolski for further comment, as well as representatives for the Duchess of Sussex.

Kolski’s brand uses the Instagram handle @asevernyc and has 10,600 followers on the platform at the time of writing on Wednesday, February 19.

Meghan’s brand, using the handle @aseverofficial, has 640,000 followers at the time of writing.

In addition to the statement, Kolski’s brand also reshared messages of support from customers on its Instagram Stories.

One person wrote: “Just a royally scandalous, run-of-the-mill Tuesday. @asevernyc forever.”

Another wrote: “The one and only @asevernyc has a very special place in my heart.”

Meghan is yet to address Kolski’s statement. In a video message posted to Instagram on Monday, the duchess said she decided to change her brand’s name when “Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business.”

Meghan also unveiled a new logo — a palm tree and two hummingbirds — which Us Weekly understands is a nod to her husband, Prince Harry.

In his 2023 memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex wrote about the significance of the hummingbird after the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Soon after our return, a hummingbird got into the house. I had a devil of a time guiding it out, and the thought occurred that maybe we should start shutting the doors, despite those heavenly ocean breezes. Then a mate said: ‘Could be a sign, you know? Some cultures see hummingbirds as spirits,’” reads an excerpt from the book.

Meghan Markle’s new brand logo has a thoughtful nod to her relationship with Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, announced plans to rename her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, to As Ever in a video posted to her personal Instagram account on Monday, February 17.

The brand’s official Instagram account also reflects the name change and the new logo, which features a palm tree and two hummingbirds on either side.

Us Weekly understands that the palm tree was chosen as a nod to Meghan and Harry’s home in Montecito, California, where they live with their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

Meanwhile, the hummingbirds were chosen because they are a favorite of Harry’s, Us can confirm.

In his memoir, Spare, the Duke of Sussex revealed that he noticed a hummingbird in his home shortly after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died.

“Soon after our return, a hummingbird got into the house. I had a devil of a time guiding it out, and the thought occurred that maybe we should start shutting the doors, despite those heavenly ocean breezes. Then a mate said: ‘Could be a sign, you know? Some cultures see hummingbirds as spirits,’” reads an excerpt from the book, published in 2023.

A new photo posted to As Ever’s Instagram account on Tuesday, February 18, revealed that products will be available in the spring.

“You’re warmly invited: As ever, coming Spring 2025,” the caption reads, alongside an image showing a table with sweet treats, including berries, jam, and a croissant.

Though Meghan is tagged in the photo, her face isn’t visible; her arm can be seen pouring jam onto a plate.

In the video announcing the name change, Meghan said the brand’s launch will coincide with the premiere of her Netflix docuseries, With Love, Meghan, set to be released on March 4.

“In two weeks, my show is coming out, which I’m so excited for, and also, my business,” Meghan said in the video.

Meghan said she decided to change the name when “Netflix came on, not just as my partner in the show, but as my partner in my business. which was huge. So I thought about it, and I’ve been waiting for a moment to share a name that I had secured in 2022, and this is the moment, and it’s called As Ever.”

“And I haven’t been able to share it with you in the same way for the past few years, but now I can, so as things are starting to trickle out there, I wanted you to hear it from me first,” she added.

Princess Kate Middleton’s brother, James Middleton, shared an adorable new photo of his son on Valentine’s Day.

James, 37, shared a throwback snap of his son, Inigo, cuddling one of his dogs in an Instagram post published Friday, February 14.

“How it started… Valentines 2024. How it’s going… Valentines 2025. Pure Love,” James captioned the post alongside a heart emoji.

In the first photo, taken in February 2024, Inigo (who was around 5 months at the time) can be seen holding the dog’s paw. In the second photo, Inigo, who is now 17 months, cuddles the dog.

James and his wife, Alizee Thevenet, welcomed Inigo on September 21, 2023.

Inigo is the nephew to James’ older sister Kate and her husband, Prince William.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine in September 2024, James revealed that his son wore hand-me-down clothes from William and Kate’s kids.

“He’s fortunate to have older cousins who can now pick him up and show him things, and as he grows up, they’ll be able to look out for him. There’s definitely an element of curiosity [about] a baby that they have,” James said.

It’s not clear which of James’ dogs feature in the photo. According to his Instagram bio, he has six dogs named Zulu, Inka, Luna, Mabel, Nala and Isla. The dogs feature heavily on James’ social media, and he even published a book detailing his relationship with his late dog, Ella, titled Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life.

Meghan Markle wore a signet ring gifted by Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Canada.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, wore a gold ring engraved with the couple’s royal monogram, which features their initials underneath a coronet.

A source told Us Weekly: “It was an anniversary gift from the Duke last year, crafted by a private jeweler.”

The monogram on the ring was created after Meghan and Prince Harry, 40, got married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, in May 2018.

Meghan was pictured wearing the ring while watching the wheelchair basketball tournament at the Invictus Games in Vancouver on Sunday, February 9. However, most onlookers didn’t notice the unique accessory until fashion blogs and outlets including Hello! Magazine and British Vogue shared close-up photos this week.

Why Meghan Markle Hasn’t Been Wearing Engagement Ring From Prince Harry

Signet rings have traditionally been associated with aristocracy and royals, though they have become increasingly popular with celebrities. Most recently, Taylor Swift’s signet ring — a gift from Gigi Hadid in June 2024 — was personalized with a portrait of her cat, her lucky number, and Travis Kelce’s jersey number.

Meghan’s ring is thought to have been designed by royal-warrant holder Bentley & Skinner, British Vogue reported, though this has not been officially confirmed. (Us Weekly has reached out to the brand for comment.)

Meghan was in Canada to support Prince Harry, who founded the Invictus Games for wounded or injured servicemen and women in 2014. The 2025 games kicked off in Vancouver on Saturday, February 8, and the closing ceremony is due to take place on Sunday, February 16.

The ring marks another unique piece in Meghan’s meaningful jewelry collection. The duchess was also pictured wearing diamond cascade earrings worth $3,600 that were gifted by Prince Harry for Valentine’s Day during the same trip.

The duchess has several pieces of clothing and jewelry that are customized. While filming an Instagram Reel that was published on February 4, Meghan wore a $37 sweatshirt with her children’s names embroidered on it.

It’s tradition for members of the British public to receive a birthday card from the monarch when they turn 100, but one lucky woman got an even more special gift.

Rona Grafton was treated to a rare in-person greeting from King Charles III on her 100th birthday on Thursday, February 13.

Charles, 76, presented her with a birthday card during his visit to Middlesbrough, England. In a video, posted via social media by the Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, approached Grafton during a walkabout.

Charles can be seen shaking Grafton’s hand and presenting her with a card before asking which day her birthday was.

Proud Grandpa! King Charles' Sweetest Moments With His Grandchildren

“Today!” he repeated excitedly.

The meeting with Charles was a complete surprise to Grafton, according to BBC News, which reported that the visit was arranged by the local council and Buckingham Palace.

The tradition of sending 100th birthday cards dates back to 1917, when King George V first sent telegrams to centenarians.

According to the U.K. government’s official website, members of the British public can receive cards from the king and queen to celebrate their 100th and 105th birthdays, as well as each year following.

Additionally, couples celebrating their 60th, 65th, and 70th anniversaries (and each year following) are also entitled to a special card.

Around 1.3 million birthday cards were sent to people in the U.K., the Realms and overseas territories during Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign, People reported.

Meanwhile, Camilla tested out her table-tennis skills during the visit on Thursday.

The queen was photographed playing with Alesha Hussain, 15, and Kaleb Autsun, 14.

“She was good, I didn’t know she liked table tennis,” Alesha told BBC News.

Kaleb told the outlet, “It was nice, that was a new experience because I’ve never seen any of the royal family before.”

Love is in the air for the Prince and Princess of Wales!

Prince William, 42, and Princess Kate Middleton, 43, shared a sweet PDA moment in a candid photo shared to social media for Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14.

In the image, captioned with a heart emoji, William and Kate can be seen sitting on a blanket with woodland surroundings. They hold hands as William kisses Kate on the cheek.

The image was taken from the couple’s video message in September 2024 when Kate announced she had completed chemotherapy treatment.

In the video, Kate leans on William’s shoulder and the couple spend time playing cards and walking in the woods with their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

In January 2025, the princess said her cancer was officially in remission.

“It is a relief to now be in remission,” Kate said in a statement shared via Instagram on January 14.

“And I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she said.

Though senior royals traditionally rarely share public displays of affection, it has become more common for the younger generation, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were recently photographed sharing a kiss while attending the Invictus Games opening ceremony in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday, February 8.

How Kate and William ‘Strengthened Their Bond’ Amid Cancer Battle

Meanwhile, William and Kate have become more open and vulnerable in their social media exchanges.

For Kate’s 43rd birthday on January 9, William wrote in a loving tribute on social media, “To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable.”

“George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W,” the message concluded.

The 2025 games kicked off with an opening ceremony in Vancouver on Saturday, February 8, with performances from Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado and Roxane Bruneau.

“Your leadership did not end when you stepped off the battlefield or took off the uniform,” Harry told veterans in the crowd at the ceremony. “It endures. The example you set is a compass for the world. We need you and we’ll always need you.”

Meanwhile, Hello! and Town and Country reported that the earrings were given to the duchess for Valentine’s Day last year. (Us Weekly has reached out to confirm this detail.)

Justin Baldoni will open up about his “intense year” in a podcast filmed before his legal battle with Blake Lively.

Baldoni, 41, appeared to wipe away tears in a promo clip for his upcoming appearance on the “Gent’s Talk” podcast, which was filmed in November 2024.

“I had a intense year,” Baldoni said in the clip, which was published on social media on Saturday, February 9.

Later in the clip, Baldoni mentioned that he experienced anxiety and said he planned to open up about things which hadn’t been shared publicly at the time of filming: “I haven’t talked about this yet but…”

Justin Baldoni Is ‘Devastated Financially’ After Blake Lively Battle

It’s not known if Baldoni will share new details about his experience working with Lively, 37, on the podcast episode, which is due to be released on Monday, February 10.

In an Instagram Story to promote the episode, the “Gent’s Talk” account wrote that host Samir Mourani “chats with Justin about the film, domestic violence, his relationship with his father, mental health, marriage and masculinity.”

It added that the interview was filmed in Baldoni’s “Man Enough” studio in L.A. during the press tour for It Ends With Us, which Baldoni directed and starred in alongside Lively.

Lively filed a legal complaint against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment during filming. The Gossip Girl star also claimed that Baldoni attempted to launch a smear campaign against her.

Baldoni denied Lively’s allegations, and in January 2025, he filed his own lawsuit against the actress, alleging that she was “determined to make Baldoni the real-life villain in her story” to mask her alleged “tone-deaf” promotion of the film. Lively denied Baldoni’s claims.

In an interview with Us Weekly, licensed psychotherapist Marni Feuerman said the decision to go public with their lawsuits will have emotional consequences for both Lively and Baldoni.

“As of now, Blake and Justin have not chosen [a private] route and instead have gone in the opposite direction, basically declaring war on each other,” Feurman said. “[This] is certain to increase the emotional price they’ll pay both during the process and when trying to heal in the aftermath.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted Stanley Tucci for a star-studded dinner at their Highgrove House estate on Friday, February 7 — and the menu looked mouth-watering.

The king and queen dined with Tucci, David and Victoria Beckham, Helen Mirren and Maria Grazia Lambertini, the Italian Ambassador to the U.K., ahead of the couple’s state visit to Italy in April.

The menu for the evening was created by chef Francesco Mazzei and inspired by Tucci, a renowned foodie, according to a Buckingham Palace press release issued to Us Weekly.

Here’s a look at the entire menu:

Reception

  • Rare and Pasture “Salumi”
  • Tuscan-Style Paté and Coppa
  • Yorkshire Pecorino Cheese Puffs
  • British Vegetable Caponata Tartelletta

Dinner

  • Scottish Crab Panzanella
  • Westcombe Ricotta
  • Highgrove Fine Herbs Ravioli
  • Isle of Wight Tomato Passata
  • Suffolk Red Porchetta
  • Pumpkin and Sage Mash
  • Tuscan Kale

Dessert

  • Zuppa Inglese
  • Biscotti

“Created using entirely British ingredients blended with Italian culinary traditions and local flavours, the menu aims to fully embody the principles of Slow Food,” reads the press release, referencing the slow food movement, which was created to promote fair and sustainable practices.

The monarch said that meals are how people join forces. “Good food brings people together and what we choose to eat helps to define us — as families, communities and nations,” Charles said in a speech during the dinner.

“It brings us sustenance, but also comfort. It binds generations, as recipes are passed down from one to another. It is a thing of beauty — ‘edible art,’ as you have put it, Stanley! And I know that it provides — as it doubtless will this evening — a topic of endless fascination and discussion around every Italian family dinner table,” he added.
