Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and President-elect Trump met on Saturday and discussed the "mutual importance" of a U.S.-Canadian energy relationship and the hundreds of thousands of American jobs supported through Albertan exports.

"Over the last 24 hours I had the opportunity to meet President [Trump] at Mar-a-Lago last night and at his golf club this morning," Smith wrote in a post on X. "We had a friendly and constructive conversation during which I emphasized the mutual importance of the U.S. - Canadian energy relationship, and specifically, how hundreds of thousands of American jobs are supported by energy exports from Alberta."

She continued, saying she had similar discussions with "several key allies" of Trump’s incoming administration in which she became encouraged to hear about their support for "a strong energy and security relationship with Canada."

"On behalf of Albertans, I will continue to engage in constructive dialogue and diplomacy with the incoming administration and elected federal and state officials from both parties, and will do all I can to further Alberta’s and Canada’s interests," Smith said. "The United States and Canada are both proud and independent nations with one of the most important security alliances on earth and the largest economic partnership in history. We need to preserve our independence while we grow this critical partnership for the benefit of Canadians and Americans for generations to come."

Smith posted about the meeting on X, nearly a week after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation amid growing pressure from within his own Liberal Party and heightened criticisms over his handling of the economy and threats levied by Trump.

However, as Trudeau announced on Monday his plan to resign as prime minister once the Liberal Party that he leads chooses his successor, the biggest pushback to Trump’s pitch to annex Canada – and his planned 25% tariffs on exports from the country – has come from the premier of Canada’s most populous province, Ontario.

Doug Ford, a former businessman and conservative who has served as Ontario’s 26th premier since 2018, told Fox News Digital in an interview that the president-elect’s targeting Canada is both "crazy" and "ridiculous."

He said the bilateral focus should be on "strengthening" what the Canadian government calls a nearly trillion-dollar two-way trade relationship to "make the U.S. and Canada the richest and most prosperous jurisdiction in the world."

The president-elect has been trolling Canada in recent weeks, floating the idea of it becoming the 51st state and posting a doctored photo of him standing beside a Canadian flag on top of a mountain.

Trump has also been pushing for Denmark to sell the North Atlantic island of Greenland to the U.S.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown raised eyebrows on Sunday night during the team’s playoff win against the Green Bay Packers with what he was doing on the bench.

In the fourth quarter, Brown was on the bench sitting between his teammates when the FOX broadcast caught him pulling out a book to read.

"I haven’t seen too many people read books, but I have seen a quarterback eat a hot dog," Tom Brady remarked, in reference to former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez’s own viral moment during his playing days.

The broadcast then happened to catch the title of the book: "Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible life." The book was written by Jim Murphy.

Brown said after the game he brings the book to the sidelines each week.

"It gives me a sense of peace," he said, via NFL Network. "That's a book I bring every single game. My teammates call it a recipe. … It's got a lot of points in there. A lot of mental game."

Golf great Stewart Cink and PGA Tour coach Matt Killen are both quoted in support of Murphy’s book, according to its Amazon page.

"My #1 tip for success: Read ‘Inner Excellence’ by Jim Murphy," Cink is quoted as saying.

"I read the first version of ‘Inner Excellence’ six times. I recommend all my clients read it," Killen is quoted as saying.

Philadelphia won the game, 22-10. Brown had one catch on three targets for 10 yards.

Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket is ready for liftoff. After some weather-related delays over the weekend, the Jeff Bezos-owned space company said that the $2.5 billion reusable rocket, which has been in development for nearly 13 years, will target its first launch no earlier than Monday, January 13. Its three-hour launch window kicks off at 1AM ET. The webcast will begin an hour before launch, and you can watch New Glenn take flight on Blue Origin’s website, X or the company’s YouTube channel.

New Glenn’s inaugural mission (NG-1) will serve as its first Space Force national security certification flight, necessary to compete against the likes of SpaceX for Department of Defense and national intelligence contracts. Its reusable first stage is designed for at least 25 flights. Blue Origin has several New Glenn vehicles in production.

Blue Origin describes New Glenn as “our giant, reusable rocket built for bigger things.” The “giant” bit is apt: The rocket stands over 320 ft (98 m) high. As for its “bigger things,” that includes the metaphorical (like potential missions to Mars) and literal: It can carry over 45 metric tons to low Earth orbit (LEO) and 13 to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO). By comparison, rival SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy can lift nearly 64 metric tons to LEO and almost 27 to GTO orbit.

On its maiden voyage, New Glenn will carry a prototype of the company’s multipurpose Blue Ring Pathfinder. The craft is designed to transport, refuel and host satellites and other spacecraft and can carry three metric tons of cargo into space. Friday’s launch will test Blue Ring’s core flight / ground systems and operational capabilities.

After New Glenn lifts off from Launch Complex 36 in Cape Canaveral, its reusable first stage will land on a barge, “Jacklyn,” floating several hundred miles away in the Atlantic Ocean.

New Glenn, named after pioneering astronaut John Glenn, completed its first launch countdown dress rehearsal on December 27. After several countdown attempts over a few hours, the rocket’s seven BE-4 engines ignited and fired for 24 seconds (spending 13 seconds at 100 percent thrust), paving the way for Friday’s targeted launch. The rocket’s first flight was initially slated for October, carrying two Mars-bound NASA satellites, but the launch was scrapped because it wouldn’t be ready by then.

The Philadelphia Eagles are flying through to the Divisional Round of the playoffs, as they beat the Green Bay Packers, 22-10, in their wild card game on Sunday night. 

The Eagles will await their opponent in the Divisional Round, as both the Washington Commanders-Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams-Minnesota Vikings games need to be played. 

This was not a game to remember for Green Bay, and it started on the opening kickoff when Keisean Nixon fumbled after a hit by Oren Burks, leading to an Eagles recovery on the 28-yard line.

Just three plays later, Jalen Hurts, who got through concussion protocol after missing the team’s final two games, had all the time in the world in his pocket before firing a dart to Jahan Dotson for his first touchdown of the season. 

Now, while that was all the offense the Eagles got in the first half other than a Jake Elliott field goal later in the first quarter, Jordan Love and the Packers just never found a rhythm. 

The first two offensive drives ended in punts, and trying to get something positive going, Love launched a ball deep down the right sideline intended for Dontayvion Wicks, but it was instead intercepted by Darius Slay.

That was Love’s first of two interceptions in the first half, as Zack Baun jumped a route ran by Malik Heath and picked him off late in the second quarter. And to add insult to injury, the Packers’ first true drive into Eagles territory ended in Brandon McManus missing a 38-yard field goal – his first career miss in the postseason. 

But when the second half began, a 10-0 game wasn’t a big enough lead for the Eagles to say the game was in the bag. The Packers were able to finally get on the board when their opening drive of the half ended with a field goal made this time, though they certainly wanted seven points instead. 

Philadelphia, though, quickly responded with a touchdown drive that was capped by an angry catch-and-run by tight end Dallas Goedert for 24 yards, as he stiffed armed Carrington Valentine multiple times as he tried to tackle him down the sideline. 

With a 16-3 deficit, the Packers were in desperation mode even with it being the third quarter because they couldn’t get anything going offensively. That’s where Josh Jacobs, their workhorse starting running back, answered the call. 

On second-and-10 from Philadelphia’s 32-yard line, Jacobs bulldozed his way through multiple Eagles players, throwing them to the ground and rushing to the goal line where it looked like he had gotten in to close the gap. Replay review would spot him down at the one, but the Packers would give it right back to him to bust into the end zone to make it 16-10 with more than enough time to rectify previous mistakes. 

But as the Eagles have been doing all season, they answer in the face of adversity, and they kicked a couple field goals and forced two turnovers, including Love’s third interception of the game, to ice their victory. 

Looking at the box score, Hurts was 13-for-21 for 131 yards with two touchdowns, while Saquon Barkley led the game with 119 rushing yards on 25 carries. And though he didn’t get in the end zone, DeVonta Smith was the leading receiver in the game with four catches for 55 yards. 

Love was 20-for-33 for 212 yards with his three interceptions, while Jacobs rushed for 81 yards on 18 carries. He lost receivers Jayden Reed, who had four catches for 46 yards, and Romeo Doubs in this game due to injury. Packers center Josh Myers was also seen carted off the field, as injuries piled up at the wrong time.

Djimon Hounsou has dozens of award-winning films and two Oscar nominations under his belt, but the actor says he still struggles financially and is “definitely underpaid.”

In a new interview with CNN published on Friday, January 10, the Beninese-born actor, 60, said he doesn’t feel he has been compensated fairly for his work and still faces systemic racism in the industry.

“I’m still struggling trying to make a living,” Hounsou, who earned Oscar nominations for In America (2002) and Blood Diamond (2006), told Larry Madowo. “I’ve been in this business making films now for over two decades with two Oscar nominations, been in many blockbuster films, and yet, I’m still struggling financially. I’m definitely underpaid.”

Hounsou, whose best-known performances include Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000), Steven Spielberg’s Amistad (1997)and The Quiet Place franchise, went on to discuss racism in Hollywood.

“I was nominated for the Golden Globe [for Amistad], but they ignored me for the Oscars, talking about the fact that they thought that I had just came off the boat and off the streets,” Hounsou stated in the CNN interview. “Even though I successfully did that [film], they just didn’t feel like I was an actor for whom they should pay any respect. This conceptual idea of diversity still has a long way to go. Systemic racism don’t change like that anytime soon.”

Hounsou — who shares 15-year-old son Kenzo with ex Kimora Lee Simmons and 2-year-old son Fela with partner Ri’Za — has been open about his career struggles in previous interviews. In a 2023 sit-down with The Guardian, Hounsou said he “felt seriously cheated” after his Blood Diamond costar Leonardo DiCaprio got the best actor nod while he was left in the supporting actor category despite the movie focusing on his character’s journey.

“Today, we talk so much about the Oscars being so white, but I remember there was a time where I had no support at all: no support from my own people, no support from the media, from the industry itself. It felt like: ‘You should be happy that you’ve got nominated,’ and that’s that.”

He continued: “I’m still struggling to try to make a dollar! I’ve come up in the business with some people who are absolutely well off and have very little of my accolades. So I feel cheated, tremendously cheated, in terms of finances and in terms of the workload as well.”

“I still have to prove why I need to get paid,” he added later in the interview. “They always come at me with a complete low ball: ‘We only have this much for the role, but we love you so much and we really think you can bring so much.’”

In 2025, he’s set to star in Beneath the Storm alongside Phoebe Dynevor and The Zealot with Kodi Smit-McPhee after making appearances in a few DC and Marvel films. Still, Hounsou insisted to The Guardian that studios assumed he “went back” to Africa after Amistad and wasn’t “a true actor.”

“When you hear things like that, you can see that some people’s vision of you, or what you represent, is very limiting,” he said. “But it is what it is. It’s up to me to redeem that.”
