The show must go on … but not every New Year’s Eve broadcast has gone smoothly for Ryan Seacrest.

“We have three live countdowns in this show, which I never thought was even possible when I first started,” Seacrest exclusively told Us Weekly in December 2022. “But we’ve got [broadcasts in] Puerto Rico, Times Square and New Orleans, and we’ve also added another party on the West Coast. It’ll be L.A. as we always have a Disneyland [portion].”

Seacrest has helmed Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve since 2005, succeeding Clark himself. (Clark died in 2012.)

“I was a kid watching this show, watching other people do the things that I get a chance to do every day. Wanting to do it,” the American Idol host added to Us in 2022 of taking over the reins. “And I feel like I’ve gotta prove that I’m worthy [of] doing it every single time. I think that is part of what keeps it exciting for me too.”

2010

Jenny McCarthy joined Seacrest’s Rockin’ Eve team in New York, starting a new tradition where she kissed a handsome stranger in the crowd when the clock turned midnight. McCarthy continued her tradition until she married Donnie Wahlberg in 2014. Since then, Wahlberg’s been her designated midnight kiss.

2015

After Taylor Swift performed during the live show, Seacrest gallantly let her borrow his jacket. Swift, however, wasn’t sure what the host was doing. “Are you stripping? This is a family show. This is inappropriate,” she quipped at the time.

Seacrest later told Us that lending Swift his coat caused technical issues.

“When I was with Taylor Swift one year, it was cold, so I gave her my coat after she’d just performed and I realized all of my communication equipment was attached to it,” he said in 2022. “So, I couldn’t really communicate with anybody in the production, which I didn’t think about prior.”

2016

The next year, Seacrest got “stuck in an elevator” when he was trying to make his way up the legendary New Year’s ball.

“That was a little stressful because they tell you to remain calm and it’s almost impossible,” he recalled to Us in 2022. “There are [also other] things that happen along the way that come together in the final seconds. [For example], performers who are not ready, but we try to make things up to say in the interim so that it looks like we’re on schedule.”

2016

Mariah Carey closed out Rockin Eve with a rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” and a medley of her biggest hits. She strutted around the stage before stopping, taking out her earpiece and retorted, “I’m trying to be a good sport here.” Carey later alleged that there were technical issues.

Seacrest denied that Carey had been set up to fail.

“When it was happening, it was hard for me to see and hear because we’re in Times Square and there was a lot going on,” he said on Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in January 2017. “I had to be told that something was going on and then try to find a monitor to react to. So I wasn’t quite sure what was happening, actually.”

He added at the time: “That crew, that team, that staff is the best in the business. They put on the biggest live music events and they know what they’re doing. I know how good they are at their jobs. My reaction was, ‘She was working with the best.’ I find it hard to believe they made big mistakes that bad.”

2020

Seacrest welcomed Post Malone as a special guest, later speculating that that rapper had been overserved.

“Probably quite a few [stars have been drunk on the show]. I think Post Malone was definitely enjoying himself before he went out,” Seacrest theorized to Entertainment Weekly in December 2022. “But it’s amazing, artists can still hit their marks, they can do their songs while drinking.”

2020

When Cyndi Lauper performed a medley of her biggest hits, she left fans thoroughly confused after her glam team ran on stage to remove her scarf.

“I’m on camera, I’m on camera,” Lauper insisted.

2020

Later that night, Jennifer Lopez also took the Rockin’ Eve stage to perform. Dressed in a silver jumpsuit, Lopez notably completed a knee slide at the end of her set but had too much power and ran into the camera.

2021

Cohen and Seacrest’s New Year’s feud began in December 2021 when a drunken Cohen called out Seacrest.

“If you look behind me, you’ll see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing. I’m sorry but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing,” Cohen quipped of the Rockin Eve broadcast.

Cohen has since apologized for his remarks with CNN barring him and Cooper from drinking on air.

2022

The next year, Seacrest claimed that Cohen purposely ignored him during the show.

“It was funny because my big stage was right in front of Anderson and Andy,” Seacrest said during a January 2023 episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan. “When I was not working, I was trying to get their attention. … I just wanted to wave and say high. They have a great show. And Anderson, [is] the best. He turns around and he says, ‘Have a good show.’ Very nice. Andy did not turn around.”

Cohen later asserted that he did not see Seacrest, saying he “would have” waved back if he had noticed an interaction between Seacrest and Cooper.

2023

North Carolina resident Pamela Bradshaw won $1 million shortly after the clock struck midnight as part of the Powerball First Millionaire of the Year Drawing — and her reaction instantly went viral. Bradshaw fell to the ground but quickly picked herself back up, turning to kiss Seacrest on stage as she continued celebrating. Seacrest was left flustered but went on with the show like a pro.

“I thank God. I’m so blessed,” Bradshaw gushed, to which Seacrest replied, “I’m so happy for you.”

Kristin Cavallari is looking for the real deal after she and TikTok star Mark Estes called it quits.

“I’m telling you right now: My next boyfriend is gonna be my next husband,” the Hills alum said on a November 2024 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. “I’m already putting that out there. I can’t keep dating. I am dating, but, like, I can’t keep doing it.”

Us Weekly confirmed in September 2024 that Cavallari and Estes, who had a 13-year age gap, went their separate ways after seven months together.

Nearly five years later, Klum revealed via Instagram that she also doesn’t count her calories in a day.

Gwyneth Paltrow is leaving 2024 in the past going into the new year.

Taking to her Instagram on Sunday, December 29, the 52-year-old actress compiled a list of everything she “let go of” over the course of the year.

“This year I have let go of … the phase of life where everyone is always under one roof, our home, some very cherished colleagues, a dog, Los Angeles,” Paltrow wrote before adding more entries, which included letting go of “some people who were not right for me, the idea that I can correct misperceptions [and] believing self-limiting beliefs.”

While Paltrow admitted that she is “still working on” dismantling such limiting beliefs, she also has a lengthy list of goals for the upcoming year.

During the Sunday, December 29, Buffalo Bills game, quarterback Josh Allen reached an impressive career milestone.

Allen, 28, scored a rushing touchdown during the first half of the team’s Sunday game against the New York Jets. It is the athlete’s 65th career touchdown, which ties the Bills franchise record. Thurman Thomas is the only other Bills player who has hit the same milestone.

After Allen carried the ball into the end zone, devoted Bills fans started a raucous “MVP” chant, per social media footage. Others watching on TV noticed a subtle tribute to Allen’s fiancée, actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Comedian Nikki Glaser pushed back her plastic surgery plans to host the annual Golden Globes.

“So, for January 2025, I was going to possibly have, like, a brow lift or some kind of really invasive surgery that I’ve been, you know, looking into getting,” Glaser, 40, said during the Sunday, December 29, broadcast of CBS Mornings.

Before the Golden Globes are held during the first weekend in January, Glaser was contacted about emceeing the ceremony.

She recalled, “[Members of my team were] like, ‘So, this operation, is there any way you could push it ’til maybe the second week of January?’”

Glaser, a stand-up comic and TV host, said yes to the offer and put her surgery dreams on the back burner.

“I’m gonna nail it,” Glaser said on Sunday about tackling hosting duties for the Globes. “Maybe I won’t nail it in some people’s eyes, but I will have nailed it in my eyes because I have set up a system leading up to it that I couldn’t possibly work harder on it.”

There will be a lot of eyes on Glaser running the show, which she hopes gets in her head.

“I thrive on anxiety,” she stressed. “I like feeling like, ‘Oh, what’s gonna happen?’ I like that feeling. I kill it when I’m anxious.”

Golden Globes 2025: Everything to Know So Far

While Glaser is known for her appearances at roasts — she recently participated in Tom Brady’s eponymous version for Netflix — she doesn’t want to be mean at the awards show.

“I think my new challenge is, I wanna be known for being a nice celebrity,” Glaser explained. “I just wanna be someone that people go, ‘Oh, she’s really great to work with. She was really nice to us,’ and not in an inauthentic way. … I wanna spread honesty.”

News broke in August that Glaser would host the annual Golden Globes.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front-row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage),” Glaser said in a statement at the time. “The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so).”

She added at the time, “It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars, who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes.”

The 82nd annual Golden Globes airs live Sunday, January 5, 2025, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET. The ceremony will also be streamed live on Paramount+.

Hilary Swank enjoyed family time during the festive holiday season.

After reports swirled that Justin Baldoni would file a legal motion against his It Ends With Us costar Blake Lively, his lawyer issued a statement.

“I am not going to speak to when or how many lawsuits we are filing but when we file our first lawsuit, it is going to shock everyone who has been manipulated into believing a demonstrably false narrative,” Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, told Deadline on Saturday, December 28. “It will be supported by real evidence and tell the true story.”

He added, “In over 30 years of practicing, I have never seen this level of unethical behavior intentionally fueled through media manipulation.”

Lively, 37, sued Baldoni, 40, for sexual harassment earlier this month, accusing him of causing her “severe emotional distress” and fostering a “hostile work environment” when they filmed It Ends With Us. (Lively and Baldoni played a couple in the film about an abusive relationship, which he also directed.)

Lively also alleged that Baldoni launched a “social manipulation” campaign in an attempt to destroy her career and reputation.

“I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted,” the Gossip Girl alum told The New York Times in a statement earlier this month.

Baldoni categorically denied the accusations through attorney Freedman. According to Freedman, the claims were “completely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious” and the court motion was allegedly filed to “fix her negative reputation” and “rehash a narrative” regarding the film’s production.

Freedman also claimed to Us at the time that Lively made “multiple demands and threats” while filming It Ends With Us, including “threatening to not show up to set, threatening to not promote the film, ultimately leading to its demise during release, if her demands were not met.”

On Saturday, the Daily Mail reported that Baldoni was planning to file a countersuit and suggested that Lively’s publicist tried to tarnish his image by leaking stories to the press.

“I was contacted on 8/11 by Sara Nathan (Melissa Nathan’s sister) forwarding an anonymous tip that Page Six received, regarding allegations of HR complaints on the set of It Ends with Us,” Lively’s rep, Leslie Sloan, tells Us Weekly in a statement. “After that, I was contacted by various press outlets asking about allegations of HR complaints. When contacted, I responded to press questions by referring them to Wayfarer or Sony for information regarding HR complaints.”

Sloane added, “It’s clear that Mr. Baldoni and his Wayfarer Associates are suggesting that I originated press stories about HR complaints on set, which is false. Please read Ms. Lively’s Complaint and the Complaint filed by Jonesworks LLC and Stephanie Jones, which provides the details of the campaign against my client.”

Nancy Meyers broke her silence after her ex-husband, fellow director Charles Shyer, died at the age of 83.

“Charles Shyer 1941-2024 ,” Meyers, 75, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, December 29, alongside two throwback photos from an unidentified movie set.

Meyers and Shyer were married between 1980 and 1999. They shared two daughters: Annie, 44, and Hallie, 37.

Actor Hudson Joseph Meek was laid to rest on Saturday, December 28, one week after he suddenly died at age 16.

Meek’s loved ones reconvened at the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama, to honor his memory, according to an Instagram live stream of the Celebration of Life service.

Meek, best known for acting roles in 2017’s Baby Driver and recent episodes of MacGyver and Found, died on December 21. He sustained injuries from blunt force trauma earlier that week after falling from a moving vehicle.

“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” a statement shared via Meek’s Instagram page read. “His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”

He was confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous and quick-witted. He never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter.”

Hudson was more than just a talent, he was a source of inspiration and touched so many lives with his enthusiasm, kindness, smile and innate ability to light up a room and never meet a stranger. He will be remembered with great affection by us all.”

Humanitarian and social media personality Dora Moono Nyambe died at the age of 32.

“It is with a heavy hearth that we announce the sudden departure of our beloved Dora,” a Friday, December 27, statement shared via Nyambe’s Instagram read. “She will be remembered as a loved mother, heroine, peace philanthropist and an extraordinary woman.”

Nyambe primarily worked as a humanitarian and educator in the village, helping to provide food and shelter to youth residents. She also documented her work via YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, garnering over 4 million followers.

A teacher who worked with Nyambe’s organization confirmed her death in a TikTok video shared earlier this week.

Nyambe previously moved to Zambia to start a boarding school through her Footprints of Hope nonprofit.

Ryan, whom Haddon shared with ex-husband Glenn Souham, further explained how she planned to honor her mother’s legacy moving forward.

Haddon had been found unconscious inside Ryan and husband Marc Blucas’ Pennsylvania farmhouse after a suspected carbon monoxide leak. A police investigation is ongoing.

Brooks Nader made a statement during her Friday, December 27, date with Dancing With the Stars pro Gleb Savchenko.

Actor Marc Blucas has previously been candid about fixing up his Pennsylvania farmhouse, which is where his mother-in-law, Dayle Haddon, died on Friday, December 27.

“You know what’s amazing, our house was built in 1711, you know, before George Washington was born,” Blucas, 52, quipped during a 2016 interview on Hallmark’s Home & Family. “It’s a way to stay creatively stimulating when I’m not filming and working.”

He added, “We wanted to be closer to family so we moved back to the East Coast to be by them. It’s the only place in the United States that has that kind of architecture with old stone barns and old stone houses.”

“New Hope Eagle Volunteer Fire Company was also on scene and detected a high level of carbon monoxide in the property,” a police report read. “Two medics were transported to Doylestown Hospital for carbon monoxide exposure and one Solebury Township Police Officer was treated at the scene. This tragedy is currently under investigation by the Solebury Township Police Department.”

Dayle is survived by Ryan — her daughter with ex-husband Glenn Souham — and her four grandchildren.

Andi Dorfman underwent a “quick/safe procedure” at the hospital less than one week after giving birth.

“Welp, we’re back! This time for Mama (minor setback and need a quick/safe procedure) but got a quick snuggle with this little nugget first,” Dorfman, 37, wrote via Instagram Story on Saturday, December 28, sharing a hospital selfie with her infant daughter.

She added, “Lesson Learned: No matter how clueless you are about motherhood, you still know your body best! Listen to it! Yes, recovery is tough and everyone is different but your instincts are valid (and probably right).”

Dorfman was diagnosed with “one large and one small hematoma” that was causing her discomfort. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a hematoma is defined as a closed wound, where blood collects and fills a space inside your body because it can’t flow or drain out.

“Within a few hours, we were at the hospital and prepped for surgery,” Dorfman wrote on Saturday. “A very straightforward procedure but still pretty terming having a 6-day-old baby, plus loads of hormones still lurking.”

Darnell had claimed that her mother bought the fake luxury goods from The RealReal, a brand that boasts only selling authenticated items.

TikTok star Kylan Darnell’s luxury Christmas haul went viral over speculation that many of the designer presents were actually dupes.

“I don’t know what to say because I don’t really owe y’all an explanation,” Darnell, 20, said in a Friday, December 27, TikTok video. “Some of my stuff that’s designer is real and some of my stuff is fake. I thought that was, like, an everybody thing.”

She added, “I know people that I go to college with [and] their parents have way more money than I could ever dream of having [and they] have real and have fake. I didn’t know that would be that big of an issue.”

After Christmas on Wednesday, December 25, Darnell and sister Izzy posted individual videos of the luxury holiday presents they received from their parents. The videos, which have since been deleted from TikTok, featured the sisters marveling over handbags and shoes from Chanel, Dior and more famous luxury brands. (Darnell initially rose to fame as one of “Bama Rush” hopefuls going through 2022 sorority recruitment at the University of Alabama.)

Social media users flooded both of the influencers’ comment sections, claiming that most of the items weren’t actually name-brand as advertised.

“I have real and I have fake. I didn’t know that this was going to blow up the world,” Darnell said on Friday. “My mom [gave] us some real things and some fake things. I thought that was normal. I didn’t mean to offend anyone, but whenever my mom hands me Christmas presents, I was raised to be grateful for whatever I got.”

According to Darnell, she would never ask “for the card showing it’s authentic.”

“I would never do that to somebody. I would be like, ‘Oh, thank you. I love it.’ And I would still wear it,” she stressed. “I’ve seen so many people that are uber-rich be like, ‘I  don’t care if it’s real or fake. Like, who cares?’ That’s why I didn’t think it would be a problem to post it.”

Darnell — who further noted that she didn’t even “think to ask” about each gift’s authenticity — also clapped back at the “far-fetched” rumors about her family and their financial situation.

“I’m just gonna keep being positive and ignore it because the more hate I get, the more money I make,” she quipped. “Actually, keep hating because maybe next time, you’ll buy my next Gucci bag!”

Darnell and her sister reposted their holiday haul on Saturday, December 28 and “shared receipts” from each purchase.

“We have to show the tags otherwise you guys will clock us,” Darnell quipped, holding up a Louis Vuitton handbag purchased secondhand from Forward, a resale website for luxury goods.
