Ravens coach John Harbaugh shares powerful Christmas message after clinching playoff berth

22 December 2024 at 09:53

The Baltimore Ravens clinched a playoff berth with their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, but head coach John Harbaugh had an important message to share before he addressed the team’s success on the field.

Speaking to reporters after the 34-17 victory, Harbaugh began with something he said was "important" to him and many people around the world. And that was to acknowledge the spirit of Christmas.

"I read this to the team in our postgame prayer and it's this – this is Mary. Mary, the mother of God, said this when she was with Elizabeth. She said this, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.’ So, I just want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas, happy holiday season, and rejoice," he said.

"Rejoice. Rejoice in life. Rejoice in your circumstances. Rejoice in the tough games. Rejoice in the losses. Rejoice in the wins like we’re blessed to do today as a football team, and just rejoice in the people that you love, the people that are close to you. Rejoice. We aren’t here on this Earth to worry about every little thing and spar with one another. We’re here to rejoice in one another and with one another and love one another. Let’s try to remember that this week. This is a big football week – it’s also a big life week. It’s a big spiritual week."

The Ravens will return on a short week to play the Houston Texans on Christmas Day.

RAVENS TAKE DOWN STEELERS TO KEEP AFC NORTH RACE OPEN

The game comes after a big win over division rival Pittsburgh in what could’ve meant the Steelers clinching the division title with a win. Instead, the Steelers and Ravens are now deadlocked.

"I feel like we've been busting our behind all season long, had ups and downs throughout this whole season, but to clinch a playoff against a great team like that, that's great," quarterback Lamar Jackson said. "That means we're moving in the right direction."

Jackson improved to 2-4 against the Steelers as a starter and recorded his NFL-leading 37th touchdown.

The Steelers will also play Christmas day against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ravens take down Steelers to keep AFC North race open

21 December 2024 at 17:16

The Baltimore Ravens punched their ticket to the postseason and kept their hopes for a division title alive Saturday.

With a 34-17 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore could reclaim first place in the final two weeks.

Pittsburgh (10-5) would have clinched the division with a victory, but now the teams are deadlocked after the Ravens (10-5) won for just the second time in the last 10 games of the series. Baltimore clinched a playoff berth with the win.

The Steelers had already clinched a playoff spot.

Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes, the second of which tied the game at 17 with 5:14 left in the third quarter. Jackson answered with a 7-yard scoring strike to Mark Andrews.

After Pittsburgh turned the ball over on downs, a 44-yard run by Derrick Henry put the Ravens in the red zone.

LIONS' JOSH PASCHAL DISCUSSES WHY HE FEELS LIKE IT'S DESTINY TO BE PLAYING IN DETROIT

That drive ended when Jackson was intercepted for just the fourth time this season, but Marlon Humphrey picked off Wilson and ran 37 yards to the end zone to give Baltimore a cushion in a series that’s been tight of late. The previous nine games between the Steelers and Ravens were decided by seven points or fewer.

Jackson improved to 2-4 against Pittsburgh as a starter. Saturday's game marked his first time facing the Steelers at home since 2020.

Henry rushed for 162 yards.

Pittsburgh entered the game with a plus-18 turnover margin, but the Ravens had the edge in that department Saturday. Baltimore recovered three of its own fumbles and had two big takeaways.

Now the Steelers will have to deal with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day before finishing the season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens will travel to Houston to play the Texans on Christmas Day before finishing the season at home against the Cleveland Browns.

Ravens waive Pro Bowl receiver Diontae Johnson after drama-filled tenure

20 December 2024 at 17:24

An ugly marriage between the Baltimore Ravens and Diontae Johnson is over.

The Ravens acquired Johnson in October in hopes of jolting their already stout offense.

Johnson did anything but, and he was waived by the team Friday.

The trade was a disaster from the start. In his first game with the team, Johnson had just one catch for six yards. That turned out to be the only catch he had with the team.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The Ravens suspended Johnson earlier this month, saying he refused to play against the Philadelphia Eagles. Earlier this week, the Ravens excused him from practice.

Surely, Johnson had to be relieved to be traded by the lowly Carolina Panthers to a team that is a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Now, he appears to be on the hunt for his third team in as many months.

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANTS BEFUDDLED BY FINAL CLUE RIPPING JETS' SUPER BOWL DROUGHT

Johnson played in just four games for the Ravens.

The Ravens will host the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday, so it speaks volumes the Ravens gave up on him roughly 24 hours before an AFC North rivalry game that could determine playoff seeding.

Baltimore didn't lose that much in the initial trade, giving up a fifth-round pick.

Johnson's role in Todd Monken's offense was questioned before the loss to the Eagles and again after he didn't enter a game when Rashod Bateman went down with a knee injury.

In 39 snaps with the Ravens, Johnson had just one catch for six yards despite being the Panthers' leading receiver through the first seven games of the season.

Ravens star Lamar Jackson launches 5 touchdowns to destroy Giants

15 December 2024 at 15:05

The highest point spread of the NFL season came to fruition on Sunday as the Baltimore Ravens thrashed the New York Giants, 35-14, with Lamar Jackson throwing five touchdown passes to lead the way for the flock.

Baltimore, coming off its Week 14 bye, is now 9-5 on the season. Meanwhile, the Giants are eyeing the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft after falling to 2-12.

It was an inauspicious start for the Ravens after Justice Hill got them in terrific field position with a long kickoff return. However, on the first offensive snap, Jackson fumbled what would've been a first down run.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

But the Ravens forced back-to-back punts from the Giants before finally getting their way into the colored paint.

It was Mark Andrews finding the end zone on a 13-yard strike by Jackson, and he set a Ravens record in the process with his 48th career score for the most in franchise history.

Andrews finished the game with two catches for 24 yards and the score.

2025 NFL MOCK DRAFT: TRAVIS HUNTER, SHEDEUR SANDERS TO GO 1-2?

Rashod Bateman, though, was the Ravens’ leading receiver in this game despite having just three catches. He scored twice for Jackson, including a beautiful pass on the run for a 49-yard score.

Bateman would score again on the very next drive, this time from 20 yards out in the back left of the end zone.

The game would see a 21-7 score at halftime, with the Giants able to get Devin Singletary into the end zone to at least get on the board.

But Baltimore set the tone in the second half with a 12-play drive that churned 6:38 of clock and made it 28-7 with Devontez Walker scoring his first career touchdown, a 21-yard catch-and-run.

Meanwhile, the Giants had Tim Boyle enter the game after Tommy DeVito suffered a head injury. He was able to find Malik Nabers, who had 10 catches for 82 yards, in the end zone.

But that came after Jackson had found Hill for another long touchdown, this time a 27-yard catch-and-run for his fifth and final touchdown on the day.

Jackson was uber efficient in this one, going 21-for-25 for 290 yards while also rushing for 65 yards on six carries.

It was a rather pedestrian day for Derrick Henry, who rushed 14 times for 67 yards.

NFL to extend halftime for Beyoncé's performance on Christmas Day: report

12 December 2024 at 08:57

The NFL is giving Beyoncé fans a gift on Christmas.

The league is extending its halftime intermission for when the superstar singer-songwriter takes the stage during the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens matchup, per TMZ Sports.

Beyoncé won’t get a Super Bowl’s halftime length, but she will get about 20 minutes to perform.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The normal halftime is about 12–15 minutes long, and for the Super Bowl, halftime can last for 25 minutes.

Netflix is streaming both NFL games on Christmas, the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET and the Ravens-Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The two games are the first ever streaming exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix will be under a lot of pressure to ensure people are able to tune into the stream to watch the games after a lot of people had issues watching the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight in November.

PAUL-TYSON FIGHT STREAMING ISSUES LEFT TRAVIS KELCE 'PRETTY P----D'

Ronald "Blue" Denton, from Florida, actually filed a lawsuit accusing Netflix of "breach of contract" for constant glitches during the fight, per TMZ.

Netflix acknowledged the issues users had streaming in a statement following the fight.

"This unprecedented scale created many technical challenges, which the launch team tackled brilliantly by prioritizing stability of the stream for the majority of viewers," said Netflix executive Elizabeth Stone.

"I'm sure many of you have seen the chatter in the press and on social media about the quality issues. We don't want to dismiss the poor experience of some members and know we have room for improvement, but still consider this event a huge success."

Netflix revealed that the Paul-Tyson fight drew 108 million viewers, making it the "most-streamed sporting event ever."

If Netflix cannot resolve their buffering issues come Christmas, the streaming service is going to have NFL fans and the "BeyHive" upset.

Ravens suspend Diontae Johnson 1 game after refusing to play vs Eagles

4 December 2024 at 14:27

The Baltimore Ravens announced wide receiver Diontae Johnson has been suspended one game for conduct detrimental to the team, and general manager Eric DeCosta didn't shy away from the conduct that led to the discipline.

"Diontae's suspension from refusing to enter our game against the Philadelphia Eagles," DeCosta said in a statement on the matter.

DeCosta said it was a "difficult decision" to suspend Johnson, who won't play following the team's bye week against the New York Giants.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

DeCosta traded for Johnson prior to the NFL's deadline earlier this season, but it hasn't been the best relationship since he left the Carolina Panthers.

The Ravens haven't played Johnson much since he came over, playing just 16% of offensive snaps over four games (one start).

JUDGE MAKES RULING ON BAIL FOR RAVENS FAN ACCUSED OF BRUTAL ASSAULT ON COMMANDERS FANS: REPORT

Johnson's role in Todd Munken's offense was questioned prior to the loss against the Eagles, and it was even more so after he didn't enter the game when Rashod Bateman went down with a knee injury in the second half.

In 39 snaps with the Ravens, Johnson has just one catch for six yards despite being the Panthers' leading receiver through the first seven games of the season this year.

This isn't good for Johnson, who is set for free agency after this season, as decreased production and refusing to play in the process may not be something a team wants to be added to their roster.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson spoke about Johnson after the game, saying that "we want him out there."

"He's a great receiver," he said, via ESPN. "We didn't get him from the Panthers for nothing."

Johnson was once Ben Roethlisberger's favorite receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but rifts with the Steelers led to a trade before the start of this season to Carolina.

Johnson was a Pro Bowler in 2021 with Pittsburgh, hauling in 107 receptions for 1,161 yards with eight touchdowns. He totaled 4,363 yards on 391 catches and 25 receiving touchdowns over 77 games with the Steelers.

Judge makes ruling on bail for Ravens fan accused of brutal assault on Commanders fans: report

4 December 2024 at 11:15

Baltimore Ravens fan who was caught on video attacking two Commanders fans in October will remain in jail while he awaits his trial after a Maryland judge denied his bail for a second time because of his substance abuse issues.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Yolanda A. Tanner ruled Tuesday to deny bail for 24-year-old Jack Callis after finding that no viable options for inpatient care were presented in court, The Baltimore Banner reported.

"Instead of using the time to tell me what’s new and what’s available, it was just a catfight today," Tanner reportedly said. "I’m just incredibly disappointed in what was presented by counsel."

District Judge LaTina Burse Greene denied Callis’ bail during his first hearing on Oct. 23, but said she would consider releasing him to an inpatient treatment program with home detention, according to the report.

Callis turned himself in to Baltimore Police on Oct. 21, just days after he was accused of assaulting two Washington Commanders fans. The incident, which was caught on video and went viral on social media, showed Callis walking up to the men in the street before immediately attacking them.

Callis, who was wearing a Lamar Jackson jersey, knocked one of the men out, according to the video, and the second victim was repeatedly punched by Callis and then thrown against a wall. He currently faces one count of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault.

During his first bail hearing, Callis admitted to daily cocaine use for the past four years, including the day of the attack, CBS News reported. A history of assaults was also revealed during the hearing.

Callis faces up to 25 years in prison for the first-degree assault charge and up to 10 years in prison for each second-degree assault charge.

Ravens' Lamar Jackson admits mom wanted him to run more in loss to Eagles: 'She just cussed me out'

2 December 2024 at 05:40

Lamar Jackson seemed to find an edge against the Philadelphia Eagles with his ability to run the ball, but the Baltimore Ravens ultimately failed to come away with the victory on Sunday evening.

Jackson threw the ball 36 times – the most since an October loss to the Cleveland Browns, when he threw the ball 38 times. He ran the ball eight times for 76 yards.

He told reporters after the game he got an earful from his mother, Felicia Jones, about not running the ball more in the loss.

"My momma just told me that. She just cussed me out," he said, via the Ravens’ website. "I'm mad. We're going to get after it. I'm not going to lie to you, we're going to get after it. I can't wait for this bye to get on. We got the Giants coming up, I'm ready to go.

"She said there were lanes I should have taken and ran. I was just trying to let guys develop routes. We had developing routes. I was just trying to go through my progression, but yeah, she [was] right."

Jackson added he felt like the team left a lot of scoring on the table.

The reigning NFL MVP fell to 23-2 against the NFC as a starter.

"The front just kept at it, that’s it. We didn’t keep a spy on him, we didn’t do anything extra," Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean said.

Saquon Barkley's crucial touchdown keeps Eagles ahead in win over Ravens

1 December 2024 at 17:08

Saquon Barkley was a headache for the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles were able to make a 3rd-down conversion with 9:52 left in the game, and then Barkley got the ball. He ran for 14 yards on the next play. And two plays later, he beefed up the margin with a 25-yard touchdown run.

The run helped Barkley get closer to the 100-yard mark. He surpassed it on the Eagles’ next drive.

Baltimore scored a touchdown with 3 seconds left on the clock. Ultimately, Philadelphia won the game, 24-19, to pick up its 10th win of the season.

Barkley’s MVP-caliber season continued. He had 107 rushing yards on 23 carries. He also had two catches on four targets for 10 yards. It was the third consecutive game he rushed for at least 100 yards, and it was the sixth time out of the last seven games he hit 100 yards rushing.

Jalen Hurts was 11-for-18 with 118 yards and a touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert. He had 29 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well.

The Ravens could never break out of their funk after the first quarter. Baltimore was up 9-0 early in the game behind a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lamar Jackson to Mark Andrews. But they only scored another field goal before the half and a garbage-time touchdown to Isaiah Likely.

Tucker’s field goal woes continued in the game. He missed an extra point after the Andrews touchdown. He was 2-of-4 on field goal attempts.

Jackson was 23-of-36 with 237 passing yards and two touchdown passes. He also had 79 yards on the ground.

Philadelphia notched its 10th win of the season. Baltimore fell to 8-5.

Ravens star admits 'tall task' stopping Saquon Barkley this week, but Derrick Henry could be the solution

1 December 2024 at 03:00

The Baltimore Ravens came away with a huge road win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night as John Harbaugh beat his little brother, Jim, for the third time in their illustrious coaching careers.

While the Ravens got back in the win column, they have a short week and a very tough opponent upcoming which requires special attention from one player in particular when breaking down the film.

Saquon Barkley, the elite running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been putting together an MVP-caliber season that notched another milestone in the team's latest win over the Los Angeles Rams.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Barkley set the single-game franchise record for rushing yards with 255, breaking Eagles Hall of Fame member LeSean "Shady" McCoy, who had previously held it with 217 yards. Barkley did so by ripping over two monster rushing touchdowns, while also hauling four catches for 47 receiving yards to break 300 yards from scrimmage on his incredible night.

At the moment, Barkley is on pace to beat Adrian Peterson's 2012 rushing season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he ultimately won MVP after falling just nine yards shy of breaking the single-season rushing record by Eric Dickerson.

All of that is to say the Ravens have a "tall task," as one of their star defenders said to Fox News Digital.

RAVENS STAR KYLE HAMILTON TALKS ABOUT HELPING MILITARY CHILDREN FOR NFL'S ANNUAL MY CAUSE MY CLEATS

"A lot of teams have tried and failed at it this season," Ravens star safety Kyle Hamilton said while also discussing his choice of Our Military Kids as the organization to represent for "My Cause My Cleats" this week. "But I think on a short week, it’s gonna be a lot of preparation, just mental stuff to put us in the right position to be successful. Not being in the wrong gaps, not fitting wrong as a DB, tackling well.

"[Running the ball] I think that’s such a big part of this team. They run the ball really well, but they also have weapons on the outside to throw the ball to if you get too aggressive. They keep you honest, but I think knocking out the run game will help us out a lot winning that game."

Barkley leads the NFL with 1,392 rushing yards and has scored 10 times on the ground this year, making him one of the most productive backs in the NFL.

But Hamilton knows Barkley and the Eagles, while owning the top rushing attack at 193.4 yards per game, are not the best all-around offense in the league. He watches it every week when he’s on the sidelines.

The Ravens are averaging a whopping 426.7 yards per game compared to the Eagles’ 389.1. And while quarterback Lamar Jackson’s dual threat abilities with his arm and legs play a large role there, a lot of it has to do with the addition of Derrick Henry this offseason, which is clearly paying dividends.

In the Ravens’ win over the Chargers, Henry totaled 140 yards on the ground, giving him 1,325 total on the year – just behind Barkley. He also has 13 rushing touchdowns, though for the first time this season, he wasn’t able to find the end zone against Los Angeles.

While Hamilton and his defensive brothers are ready to make plays in one of the league’s most anticipated games this Sunday, he also wants to see himself on the sidelines more often than not.

That means Jackson, Henry and the Ravens’ offense are in control.

"We want to be out there playing and making plays, but typically if you dominate time of possession, you win the game," Hamilton explained. "Having those long drives, keeping us fresh and going out there playing fast. We get three-and-outs, you kinda get into a groove right there and you can get the score really high at that point. Score points, get a three-and-out.

"We’ve had plenty of games like that where we’ve made big waves. So, it’s something that’s easier said than done, but if we get consistent with that, we’re going to be tough to beat."

Two of the league's best teams, with the top two running backs in terms of yards, will be going head-to-head for a 4:25 p.m. matchup Sunday in Baltimore.

Ravens star Kyle Hamilton talks about helping military children for NFL's annual My Cause My Cleats

26 November 2024 at 15:10

One of the best weeks in the NFL season is upon us, as My Cause My Cleats will bring attention to hundreds of organizations players around the league chose to help through customized cleats worn on game day.

Over the next two weeks, players will be permitted to break outside their traditional team colors for their game day footwear, and Baltimore Ravens star safety Kyle Hamilton unveiled his cleats ahead of a matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.

Hamilton, in partnership with USAA, the official Salute to Service partner of the NFL, chose to help Our Military Kids, a nonprofit organization for kids with parents in the military, either deployed or recovering from combat injuries.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Hamilton spoke to Fox News Digital about why this was the right cause for him while discussing his time with several of those children in the program that he surprised a few weeks back at the Ravens’ complex.

"My Cause My Cleats is a great week of the year for players to show some individuality and highlight some causes they feel need to be talked out, and I feel like I appreciate USAA for partnering with me on this," Hamilton, in his third year with the Ravens, said.

"We had them to the facility a few weeks ago, and about six or seven of them, ranging from ages 7 to about 13, had a great time. Got to talk with them and play some football, play some basketball. [We] broke a good sweat. We were playing for probably an hour. It was awesome.

LAMAR JACKSON THROWS FOR 2 TOUCHDOWNS, RUSHES FOR 1 AS RAVENS TAKE DOWN CHARGERS

"To have that time to humanize myself and give those kids the opportunity to ask questions or whatever. It was pretty cool."

While Hamilton had a good time at the Ravens’ complex with the children from Our Military Kids, his greatest moments were the conversations he had with them, which led to an understanding of how much they sacrifice like their parents.

"It kinda puts everything into perspective," Hamilton said. "They have such a happy outlook on life, and I’ve always said, they don’t get to choose their families or their situation. But they make the most of it, and I feel like that’s something all of us can take from even 7-, 8-year-old kids. To have a great outlook on life, play the cards that you’re dealt. And it definitely rubbed off on me to take a step back and appreciate where I am."

Hamilton also mentioned going to South Korea to a United States Army base, Camp Humphreys, outside of Seoul, where he met even more kids during a football camp. Each time he interacts with these children and families, he develops a greater appreciation for our armed services and those affected by the sacrifices made each day.

"It’s not the situation I’m sure they’d want to be in," Hamilton said of military children. "I’m sure they’d rather be at home playing high school basketball with their friends, but it’s the sacrifices that their families make. And just my ability to highlight that and appreciate them and do as much as I can to just show they’re being thought of, it's the least I can do."

Hamilton's cleats were designed by Marcus Rivero, also known as Soles by Sir, and he featured the Our Military Kids logo front and center on one of the shoes with a picture of kids playing together.

On the other shoe, different branches of the military are spelled out in different fonts and colors on a purple base.

Ten other Ravens, including tight end Mark Andrews and receiver Rashod Bateman, will be wearing custom cleats to show off the causes they are helping this year.

Lamar Jackson throws for 2 touchdowns, rushes for 1 as Ravens take down Chargers

25 November 2024 at 20:42

The "Harbaugh Bowl" at SoFi Stadium went to John, as he beat his brother Jim's Los Angeles Chargers, 30-23, on "Monday Night Football" to get his Baltimore Ravens back in the win column.

The Ravens moved to 8-4 on the season, while the Chargers dropped to 7-4.

It may have been the first game he didn’t score this season, but the Ravens’ offense was once again led by the strong rushing attack of Derrick Henry.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Henry tallied 140 rushing yards on 24 carries (5.8 per attempt), as Baltimore’s run game continues to beat up on NFL defenses this season.

It was nothing flashy for Henry, but one of the best defenses in the league couldn’t figure out how get the big stop when he had the ball in his hands.

Meanwhile, two other rushers were able to find the end zone, with Lamar Jackson getting in for the Ravens’ first score of the game and Justice Hill putting the dagger in the victory with a 51-yard score in the fourth quarter.

EAGLES' SAQUON BARKLEY SETS FRANCHISE SINGLE-GAME RUSHING RECORD IN STATEMENT WIN OVER RAMS

Things went so well for Los Angeles to start this game off, as Justin Herbert was methodical as he charged downfield and ultimately rushed it in for an opening-drive touchdown. But it was the only one of two touchdowns the team would score all game, as Cameron Dicker was active kicking field goals.

Jackson, on the other hand, was able to get two of his passes into the end zone with Mark Andrews leaping to haul one in during the fourth quarter, while Rashod Bateman fought through a defensive pass interference call at the end of the first half to snag a 40-yard bomb from Jackson to take a 17-13 lead at the time.

Gus Edwards was able to score from one yard out with less than a minute to play in the fourth quarter, giving Dicker a chance to have an onside kick with a one-score game.

But Isaiah Likely secured the attempt to seal the Ravens’ victory, a much-needed win for Baltimore after faltering in Pittsburgh last week.

Jackson finished the game with 177 passing yards on 16-of-22 through the air with his two touchdowns and one rushing score. Zay Flowers was his top receiver with 62 yards on five receptions, while Andrews had 44 yards on five catches as well.

For Herbert, he went 21-of-36 for 218 yards, where drops were an issue for his receivers on the night. Quentin Johnston was the main culprit of that as he couldn’t haul in any of his five targets.

Ladd McConkey, who has been a standout rookie for Los Angeles, had 83 yards on six catches.

Also worth nothing for the Chargers: J.K. Dobbins, the ex-Ravens who has shined for the Chargers this season, left the game with a knee injury. Dobbins has a history of torn ligaments in his knee, so Chargers fans are waiting with bated breath to see what happens with their star running back.

Ravens star kicker Justin Tucker says Steelers' field conditions weren't 'ideal' after shaky performance

18 November 2024 at 13:57

This week’s NFL slate wasn’t a particularly good outing for kickers across the league, including one of the greatest of all time.

Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker hasn’t been his usual elite self this season, and his worst game couldn’t have come at a worse time against their AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tucker missed two field goals in what eventually became a deciding factor in the 18-16 loss for Baltimore, giving Pittsburgh possession of the AFC North throne for the moment.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

After the game, Tucker was asked if the field conditions weren’t to his liking, to which he didn’t make an excuse.

However, he did mention it wasn’t the best conditions considering Pitt’s football team played Clemson in their college football matchup on Saturday before the Ravens and Steelers kicked off.

"I wouldn’t say the surface was an issue, but it wasn’t ideal," Tucker told reporters. "That’s something that we make it a point to account for by going out there in pre-game warmups and getting our feet under us, figuring out what the wind may be doing. But we’ve dealt with that plenty of times here, elsewhere, at home. Then, throughout the course of the game, the most action takes place in between the hashes, and it naturally gets chewed up."

STEELERS TAKE COMMAND OF AFC NORTH WIN WITH OVER RAVENS

As Tucker says, he’s not making any excuses, but social media didn’t take that as such considering Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was a perfect 6-for-6 on his field goal attempts, which ultimately won the Steelers the game.

Tucker was able to drill a 54-yard field goal to keep the Ravens in the divisional bout, but the 34-year-old has already missed six kicks this season, and he’s only missed a total of seven in a single season during his career.

Despite his struggles on Sunday, Boswell, who is having a solid season with just one miss on 30 attempts, was humble when asked if he’s taken the crown as the league’s best kicker from Tucker.

"No, not even close. That dude’s a legend," Boswell said. "He’s a Hall of Famer and next thing you know, he’ll go on another 100-field-goals-[made] streak and everyone will forget about this."

Tucker’s Ravens teammates and coaches also have confidence in their veteran kicker.

"The best option is to get Justin back on point," head coach John Harbaugh said, per ESPN. "We certainly haven’t lost any confidence in Justin. He’s definitely our best option."

Tucker added: "I’m still confident I’m going to go out there and nail every single kick. Part of the way we stay confident is by continuing to work and trust the process. I might sound like a broken record, but it's a part of what brings us success – is just trusting the process and then taking it one kick at a time."
