Ravens coach John Harbaugh shares powerful Christmas message after clinching playoff berth

22 December 2024 at 09:53

The Baltimore Ravens clinched a playoff berth with their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, but head coach John Harbaugh had an important message to share before he addressed the team’s success on the field.

Speaking to reporters after the 34-17 victory, Harbaugh began with something he said was "important" to him and many people around the world. And that was to acknowledge the spirit of Christmas.

"I read this to the team in our postgame prayer and it's this – this is Mary. Mary, the mother of God, said this when she was with Elizabeth. She said this, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior.’ So, I just want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas, happy holiday season, and rejoice," he said.

"Rejoice. Rejoice in life. Rejoice in your circumstances. Rejoice in the tough games. Rejoice in the losses. Rejoice in the wins like we’re blessed to do today as a football team, and just rejoice in the people that you love, the people that are close to you. Rejoice. We aren’t here on this Earth to worry about every little thing and spar with one another. We’re here to rejoice in one another and with one another and love one another. Let’s try to remember that this week. This is a big football week – it’s also a big life week. It’s a big spiritual week."

The Ravens will return on a short week to play the Houston Texans on Christmas Day.

RAVENS TAKE DOWN STEELERS TO KEEP AFC NORTH RACE OPEN

The game comes after a big win over division rival Pittsburgh in what could’ve meant the Steelers clinching the division title with a win. Instead, the Steelers and Ravens are now deadlocked.

"I feel like we've been busting our behind all season long, had ups and downs throughout this whole season, but to clinch a playoff against a great team like that, that's great," quarterback Lamar Jackson said. "That means we're moving in the right direction."

Jackson improved to 2-4 against the Steelers as a starter and recorded his NFL-leading 37th touchdown.

The Steelers will also play Christmas day against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ravens take down Steelers to keep AFC North race open

21 December 2024 at 17:16

The Baltimore Ravens punched their ticket to the postseason and kept their hopes for a division title alive Saturday.

With a 34-17 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore could reclaim first place in the final two weeks.

Pittsburgh (10-5) would have clinched the division with a victory, but now the teams are deadlocked after the Ravens (10-5) won for just the second time in the last 10 games of the series. Baltimore clinched a playoff berth with the win.

The Steelers had already clinched a playoff spot.

Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes, the second of which tied the game at 17 with 5:14 left in the third quarter. Jackson answered with a 7-yard scoring strike to Mark Andrews.

After Pittsburgh turned the ball over on downs, a 44-yard run by Derrick Henry put the Ravens in the red zone.

LIONS' JOSH PASCHAL DISCUSSES WHY HE FEELS LIKE IT'S DESTINY TO BE PLAYING IN DETROIT

That drive ended when Jackson was intercepted for just the fourth time this season, but Marlon Humphrey picked off Wilson and ran 37 yards to the end zone to give Baltimore a cushion in a series that’s been tight of late. The previous nine games between the Steelers and Ravens were decided by seven points or fewer.

Jackson improved to 2-4 against Pittsburgh as a starter. Saturday's game marked his first time facing the Steelers at home since 2020.

Henry rushed for 162 yards.

Pittsburgh entered the game with a plus-18 turnover margin, but the Ravens had the edge in that department Saturday. Baltimore recovered three of its own fumbles and had two big takeaways.

Now the Steelers will have to deal with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day before finishing the season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens will travel to Houston to play the Texans on Christmas Day before finishing the season at home against the Cleveland Browns.

Eagles, Steelers players get into skirmish as rivalry game between title contenders heats up

15 December 2024 at 14:36

It may be cold in Philadelphia, but the rivalry between the Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers heated up Sunday evening at Lincoln Financial Field.

A brief skirmish broke out in the first quarter after it appeared Steelers tight end Darnell Washington blocked Eagles defensive back Darius Slay into the back of the end zone. Players from both teams gathered around them and pushing and shoving ensued.

Washington and Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III were flagged for unnecessary roughness penalties. The Eagles accepted the penalty on Washington. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was upset with the penalties and made it known to one of the officials.

Pittsburgh ended the drive with a 37-yard Chris Boswell field goal.

DOLPHINS' GRANT DUBOSE NEEDS JERSEY CUT OFF, LEAVES GAME ON STRETCHER AFTER SCARY HIT VS TEXANS

Philadelphia responded on the next drive. Jalen Hurts led the team down the field on a six-play, 70-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to A.J. Brown.

Both teams came into the so-called Battle of Pennsylvania as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Russell Wilson seemed to be on his A-game in recent weeks with the defense playing as good as ever as they’ve been in contention for the AFC North crown.

The Eagles, though with some controversy surrounding Hurts and Brown, have maintained the NFC East lead over the contending Washington Commanders.

A win for either team would certainly add to their playoff hopes.

"The fans in Pittsburgh today were so blatantly disrespectful to me and the Browns girls," she wrote on X. "I’ve never felt so attacked by people who I literally did nothing to. Very sad/embarrassing behavior."

Teller added a selfie and another explanation on her Instagram Stories.

"When you’re just trying to have a drink and watch your husbands at work but surrounded by Steelers fans who are screaming at the and you the entire team," she wrote.

George Pickens fined over $20,000 after criticisms about behavior from head coach: report

7 December 2024 at 13:54

George Pickens' on-field actions have hit his pockets once again.

The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was reportedly fined for the fourth time this season, and his latest penalty is his most costly yet.

Pickens reportedly was fined $20,462 for two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, one of which included a finger gun after a long reception.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

He was also fined three times last year - his previous six penalties stem from a blindside block, two taunts, displaying a personal message and two excessive facemasks.

The fine comes amid criticisms by his own head coach, Mike Tomlin, who recently said Pickens needs to "grow up in a hurry."

"This is an emotional game, man. These divisional games are big. He got a target on his back, because he's George, he understands that. But he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up in a hurry," Tomlin told reporters after Sunday's game.

KYLIE KELCE SAYS SHE SEES HUSBAND JASON 'LESS NOW IN RETIREMENT' THAN DURING HIS PLAYING DAYS

Pickens’ conduct has been under the microscope this season. He got into a fight with Cleveland Browns defensive back Greg Newsome II in their Thursday night match last month. He was also accused of taking plays off earlier this season.

Pickens' exchange with reporters the day after Thanksgiving also raised some eyebrows. While talking to reporters, Pickens channeled former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch's viral moment from the 2015 Super Bowl media day.

The 23-year-old has 55 receptions for 850 yards and three touchdowns this season.

The NFL began to crack down on gun-like celebrations this season. There have now been 21 fines due to obscene gestures this season.

Former Ohio State star Cameron Heyward pays off Michigan bet in brutal way: 'I feel like an idiot'

5 December 2024 at 17:11

Ohio State alum Cameron Heyward placed a bet on last week's Ohio State-Michigan game, which his Buckeyes lost, 13-10, in one of the biggest upsets of the season.

The upset was not enough to keep the Buckeyes out of the College Football Playoff, but Heyward likely wasn't concerned about that.

While talking with reporters this week, Heyward reluctantly wore a Michigan hat to settle his wager.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The veteran and Pittsburgh Steelers rookie teammate Roman Wilson, who played a big role in the Wolverines' national championship last year, made the bet.

"That was terrible," Heyward said.

Making matters worse was the bet was Heyward's idea, which is understandable considering the Buckeyes were three-touchdown favorites.

BILL BELICHICK INTERVIEWS FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL JOB AFTER LEGENDARY COACH LEAVES: REPORT

"I approached him, so I feel like an idiot," Heyward said.

Let's just hope Wilson and Heyward didn't come to blows like the players on the field in Columbus.

After the game, Michigan players tried to plant a UM flag at midfield, which many Buckeyes took exception to.

The incident resulted in a brawl between the two teams, and police used pepper spray to settle the situation.

It was a storybook ending for what was a disappointing Wolverines season, who finished 7-5. The bright side for OSU is it is still fighting for a national championship.

Steelers' George Pickens needs to 'calm down,' NFL legend says amid the star wide receiver's on-field antics

5 December 2024 at 12:20

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has been a key part of the offense, as he leads the team in receptions and yards.

However, Pickens has been making headlines with his on-field antics.

Pickens, 23, was flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct in the Steelers' 44-38 win over the Cincinnati Bengals

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

Former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. thinks Pickens needs to calm down.

"He got to tone it down a little bit, just cause people are talking about it. And I’ve been a guy that understands when people are talking about you like that, and it’s going to be this assumed disposition about you. People are going to believe what they see or believe what some other people may say even though the context may not be all aligned," Smith said during a recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ "Pardon My Take."

Smith was known for having a flair in his 16-year playing career, as he was a trash-talker who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind.

"George is going to have to calm down, he’s a heck of a football player. He has one of the best coaches out there who really rocks with you, so if (Mike Tomlin) is telling you, ‘You need to rein it in,’ then guess what, you need to rein in it," Smith said.

MIKE TOMLIN KEEPING SPECIFICS ON HANDLING OF STEELERS STAR GEORGE PICKENS IN HOUSE: 'NOT GIVING YOU DETAILS'

Smith said the message coming from Tomlin about reining it in meant more because of the caliber of receivers he has coached in his career.

"Cause Mike T, if you think about it, Mike T has been around a lot of special wide receivers, guys who can change like that in your favor. He has also seen some of these guys haven’t managed themselves well, so he’s speaking more (as) not ‘I’m better than’ but ‘I’ve seen this movie before, and I know how the ending is,’ so you need to be careful," Smith added.

Tomlin was asked about Pickens’ penalties and if he had addressed them.

"I’m not going to give you any detail about what goes on behind the scenes in terms of his growth and development. That’s my style, and I’m going to be really consistent in it. Being transparent with you guys doesn’t necessarily help or accelerate the growth process, and that’s my agenda, not necessarily feeding the beast," Tomlin said while meeting with reporters Tuesday.

Pickens had three catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in addition to the two penalties in the Steelers' win Sunday.

Penalties aren’t the only thing that has gotten Pickens in the headlines, as the wide receiver was seen getting into it with Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II after the Steelers' 24-19 loss to the Browns.

After the Hail Mary pass from quarterback Russell Wilson fell incomplete, cameras showed Pickens and Newsome getting into it near the stands. Pickens was then shown being held back by two members of stadium security.

Mike Tomlin keeping specifics on handling of Steelers star George Pickens in house: 'Not giving you details'

3 December 2024 at 18:26

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has found himself at the center of controversy multiple times in less than three full seasons in the NFL.

Shortly after the Pittsburgh Steelers' win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, head coach Mike Tomlin pointed out the apparent need for Pickens to "grow up in a hurry."

Pickens led the Steelers with three catches for 75 yards and a first-quarter touchdown against the Bengals. However, Tomlin was unhappy with the penalties Pickens committed.

The receiver had two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the game. Pittsburgh was charged with nine penalties for 103 yards. On Tuesday, Tomlin declined to reveal more details about how he has dealt with Pickens since.

At one point while talking to reporters Tuesday, Tomlin was asked if Pickens' repetitive penalties were something to be worried about.

"If it is or isn’t, I wouldn’t necessarily tell you, to be quite honest with you," Tomlin replied.

STEELERS' GEORGE PICKENS CHANNELS MARSHAWN LYNCH'S VIRAL INTERVIEW: 'I'M JUST HERE SO I WON'T GET FINED'

Tomlin then made it clear he had no intention of making his private treatment of Pickens public.

"I’m not going to give you any detail about what goes on behind the scenes in terms of his growth and development," Tomlin said. "That’s my style, and I’m going to be really consistent in it. Being transparent with you guys doesn’t necessarily help or accelerate the growth process, and that’s my agenda, not necessarily feeding the beast."

Pickens has made headlines multiple times this year. While the on-field issues in Week 13 marked his latest incident, Pickens' exchange with reporters the day after Thanksgiving raised some eyebrows.

While talking to reporters, Pickens channeled former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch's viral moment from the 2015 Super Bowl media day.

Pickens repeatedly responded, "I’m just here so I won’t get fined," as reporters directed questions at the 23-year-old.

One of the questions directed at Pickens centered around whether the receiver had heard from the NFL about any potential punishment for his involvement in a scuffle at the end of a Week 12 game against the Cleveland Browns, which the Steelers lost 24-19.

On the final play of the game, Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson tossed a Hail Mary toward the end zone. Pickens was in the area of the pass, but Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II was guarding him and effectively took the wide receiver out of the play.

Cameras missed the beginning of what looked to be a skirmish, but a quick pan appeared to show Pickens and Newsome getting tangled up near the stands. The camera then showed Pickens being held back by two members of stadium security near the seats. One fan was even holding Pickens' arm, leading to initial speculation the player was getting into it with fans.

Steelers' Najee Harris blames brief absence on teammate's girlfriend's Thanksgiving meal

2 December 2024 at 09:59

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris tied the game against the Cincinnati Bengals in the second quarter of their win with a 10-yard rushing touchdown and led the team in yards on Sunday.

But there was a point early in the matchup when it looked like Harris may have suffered an injury.

In the first quarter, Harris was briefly sidelined in what was thought to be a knee injury. However, he admitted it was a bit sillier than that. He told reporters after the game he had too much food at Thanksgiving – hosted by Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth’s girlfriend, Jill.

"It’s Thanksgiving, Pat’s girlfriend, Jill, she made this fire-a-- little banana thing," Harris said. "I had too much. I guess I didn’t know it affected me until that first drive. So, I blame her."

The former Alabama Crimson Tide standout said he ate some oranges to help out with his affliction.

Harris’ touchdown was clutch in the high-scoring affair. He finished with 75 rushing yards on 16 carries. He also had six catches for 54 yards.

Freiermuth had six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown grab. He gave a special shoutout to his girlfriend on X after Steelers fans were surprised with the 44-point result.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin calls out George Pickens: 'He's got to grow up in a hurry'

2 December 2024 at 05:14

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin called out wide receiver George Pickens following the team’s 44-38 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

On Sunday, Pickens avoided a costly ejection over his penalties. One of the flags came when he made a "violent gesture" after picking up a first down. NFL officials believed he was making the gun-like gesture that has been seen throughout the league this season, so a penalty was called. Pickens said officials misinterpreted his hand signs.

The other penalty came when he threw a ball at a group of Bengals players in the first quarter.

Pickens said he did not need to do anything differently.

"No, honestly, like I said, I can just keep running my routes, keep playing," he told reporters in part, adding that he was just happy the team came out on top regardless of "ticky-tack" calls.

Pickens has been the bright spot of the Steelers’ receiving corps this season. He has 55 catches for 850 yards and three touchdowns.

The Steelers are 9-3 this season and are on top of the AFC North.

Steelers tie NFL record with 21 consecutive non-losing seasons after win over Bengals

1 December 2024 at 17:49

The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t know anything about losing records – at least for the last 21 seasons.

Russell Wilson threw for 414 yards and three touchdowns as the Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 44-38 to wrap up their ninth win of the season. The ninth win guaranteed the Steelers will finish above .500.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

It’s the 21st straight season the Steelers have finished at or above the .500 mark, tying an NFL record with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the 18th consecutive season they’ve had a winning year under head coach Mike Tomlin. The other three were under Pro Football Hall of Famer Bill Cowher.

Tom Landry led the Cowboys to 21 straight non-losing seasons from 1965 to 1985.

Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers since the 2007 season. He has one Super Bowl title on his resume. He is 182-103-2 all-time.

SAM DARNOLD HELPS VIKINGS NOTCH 10TH WIN OF SEASON IN VICTORY OVER CARDINALS

"I thought our group smiled in the face of it, particularly [quarterback Russell Wilson]," Tomlin said after the game. "It's the first time for him going through AFC North football, and I thought he acclimated himself to it well today. He put himself squarely in the history of this series with that performance today."

The last time the Steelers finished with a losing record was in 2003 when they were 6-10 with Tommy Maddox at quarterback. The team drafted Ben Roethlisberger in the following draft and their bruising defense helped the team to a 15-1 season in 2004. They won the Super Bowl under Cowher in 2005.

With Pittsburgh’s win over Cincinnati, the Steelers took a commanding lead in the AFC North. The Baltimore Ravens fell to the Philadelphia Eagles and will move at least one game behind the Steelers in the win column.

Steelers' George Pickens channels Marshawn Lynch's viral interview: 'I'm just here so I won't get fined'

29 November 2024 at 16:25

George Pickens was not particularly in a giving mood during his media session inside the Pittsburgh Steelers' locker room the day after Thanksgiving.

Instead of providing reporters with thoughtful or insightful responses to their questions, the third-year wide receiver channeled former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch's viral moment at Super Bowl XLIX's media day in 2015.

Pickens repeatedly responded, "I’m just here so I won’t get fined," as reporters directed questions at the 23-year-old.

One of the questions directed at Pickens centered around whether the receiver had heard from the NFL about any potential punishment for his involvement in a scuffle at the end of last week's game against the Cleveland Browns, which the Steelers lost 24-19.

"I'm just here so I won't get fined," he repeated.

UNC 'REACHED OUT' TO STEELERS OC ARTHUR SMITH ABOUT HEAD COACH OPENING

Shortly after the Steelers' surprising loss inside the Browns' snowy home stadium, Pickens placed the blame on the game's weather conditions. "Conditions played a huge, huge part in today’s game. I don’t really think the Cleveland Browns are a good team at all," he told reporters. "I think the conditions kind of saved them today."

"The snow, the conditions were so bad," he continued. "I don't even think the QB could see sometimes. And when you got conditions like that, at the opponent's home field, it kind of plays in their favor."

The snowfall picked up in the second half of the game. While the weather conditions were something both teams had to contend with, Pickens' assertion suggests the Steelers fell to 8-3 due to the snow and wind.

Friday's exchange was not the first time this season that Pickens has shown his apparent lack of fondness for having to interact with the media.

In October, Pickens came under scrutiny after he wore eye black during a game that featured a profane word. The eye black strip, which stretched under his eyes, said, "open f---ing always."

NFL policy prohibits players from adding messages to eye black during games, but apparently the rule was not on Pickens' radar. "Never seen (the rule) before," he said when asked if he was aware of the league's policy pertaining to eye black. "Have you seen it before?"

A reporter then mentioned the fine that Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward had to pay in 2015 when he wrote his father's nickname on his eye black. Heyward's father, Craig, played in the NFL from 1988-1998 and went by the nickname "Ironhead."

Pickens shrugged when his teammate's fine was brought up, saying, "Years ago, when I wasn’t in the league? So, no."

The Steelers will look to solidify their position atop the AFC North when they play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

George Pickens blames snow, wind after Browns upset Steelers: 'Conditions played huge, huge part'

22 November 2024 at 17:26

The latest edition of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns' rivalry was a thriller.

The Steelers entered Thursday night's AFC North game on a five-game winning streak and were widely considered the favorite to win. But Pittsburgh lost 24-19.

Browns star running back Nick Chubb scored a go-ahead touchdown with 57 seconds remaining in the game to help secure Cleveland's victory.

Much of the conversation before, during and after the game centered around the wintry mix players and fans endured.

"Conditions played a huge, huge part in today’s game. I don’t really think the Cleveland Browns are a good team at all," Pickens told reporters after the game. "I think the conditions kind of saved them today.

Pickens' postgame comments were not the only thing he did to draw attention Thursday night.

Steelers' George Pickens gets into it with Browns player on final play of blizzard game, held back by security

22 November 2024 at 04:16

An AFC North rivalry had another page added to its long book of ugly history on Thursday night.

The Cleveland Browns squeaked out a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in blizzard conditions on their home turf, but as soon as the game ended, things turned sour for two players.

Russell Wilson was aiming for the end zone on the final play of the game, and his pass fell incomplete to give the Browns a 24-19 victory.

Wide receiver George Pickens was guarded well by Greg Newsome II, totally taking him out of the play. Apparently, they started to get into it.

Cameras missed the beginning of what looked to be an ugly skirmish, but a quick pan appeared to show the two getting tangled up by the stands.

The camera then showed Pickens being held back by two members of stadium security near the seats. One fan was even holding Pickens' arm, leading to initial speculation that Pickens was getting into it with fans.

Newsome is eventually seen standing up from the ground and walking away from the ruckus.

It is not the first time Pickens' temper has gotten out of hand. In his rookie season, he yelled at coaches after a teammate dropped a pass.

Last season, he was called out for what appeared to be a lack of effort.

"You know we are all frustrated, but we've got to manage our frustrations in a professional, mature way. And when it’s not done that way, it’s not necessarily pushing us toward solutions," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said last year regarding Pickens' sideline outbursts at the time.

The Browns initially blew a 10-point lead, but Jameis Winston led a game-winning drive in the game's final minutes. Nick Chubb scored twice, including the game-winning touchdown, as the Browns got their third win of the season.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, suffered their third loss of the season opposite their eight victories.

Browns use blizzard conditions to upset AFC North rival Steelers in 4th quarter comeback

22 November 2024 at 04:11

The league’s first snow game of the season appeared to be a low-scoring bout at first, but a fourth-quarter thriller ensued in the harsh conditions as the Cleveland Browns upset the Pittsburgh Steelers, 24-19, in a wild AFC North battle.

The Browns moved to 3-8 on the season, while the Steelers are now 8-3.

High winds, a temperature that felt below 30 degrees and tons of snow were dumped on Huntington Bank Field throughout this contest, and both teams were attempting to get acclimated to the conditions that continued to get worse as time ticked on the clock.

The Steelers found themselves down two scores after Jameis Winston powered his way into the end zone on fourth-and-goal to make it 18-6 after a failed two-point conversion.

However, Russell Wilson and the Steelers’ offense, which had not scored a touchdown all game to this point, knew it was now or never early in the fourth quarter to get moving.

First, the Steelers’ defense had to get the ball back from Winston and company, and while a punt would have sufficed, Nick Herbig had something else in mind.

On the second play of the drive, Herbig strip-sacked Winston and the ball was recovered on Cleveland’s 27-yard line. Three plays later, Wilson threw a dot to Calvin Austin in the back of the end zone to make it a 19-18 game.

However, the Browns, with fans braving the weather in the stands to cheer them on, found life on their final drive of the game, where Nick Chubb scored his second touchdown of the game with 57 seconds left on the clock to go up five points after the two-point conversion failed.

Chubb, who found the end zone with four minutes left in the second quarter, as well, finished the game with 59 yards on 20 rush attempts.

His score, however, would not have come without Jerry Jeudy hauling in a fourth-and-3 pass to move the chains earlier in the drive, while also going for 15 yards on third-and-6 to land on Pittsburgh’s 15-yard line to set up Chubb’s score. Jeudy finished the game with a team-high 85 yards on six catches.

Wilson had a last-ditch effort to try to retake the lead, attempting to keep the Steelers’ five-game win streak alive. But his efforts were all for naught. He finished the game with 261 yards passing on 20-of-26 with his touchdown to Austin, who had 69 yards on just two catches.

For the Browns, Winston was 18-of-27 through the air for 219 yards.

Browns' Myles Garrett has words for Steelers' TJ Watt ahead of AFC North battle

20 November 2024 at 09:11

Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers defensive stars hyped up the AFC North battle that’s set to take place on Thursday night.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was named the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year as he secured 14 sacks and 42 total tackles in 16 games on his way to a fourth consecutive Pro Bowl selection. He received 23 first-place votes and narrowly won over Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt.

Watt led the NFL in sacks with 19 and had 48 total tackles in 17 games. He appeared to be upset with the alleged snub and expressed his feelings in a social media post, saying "nothing I’m not used to."

Garrett told reporters Tuesday he thought Watt should apologize after he didn’t reach out to congratulate the Browns star.

"No, he didn't say nothing to me. He's got to apologize to me when I see him," he said.

Garrett explained he was never one to complain about losing out on an award.

"I've never complained about the trophy not being in my house and vice versa," he added, via NFL.com. "He shouldn't be feeling two ways about it going to me. So, I'm just going to play the game, I don't play against T.J., he doesn't play against me. But we have a plan to go out and do what we're supposed to, win the game and dominate on defense. But it's up for grabs this year, and we'll see the best man win."

Watt took an opportunity to praise Garrett’s abilities on the football field.

"I have respect for everybody in the league. Obviously, he's a guy who has been a top pass rusher in the league for a long time," he said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "But I don't compete directly against him. It's our team versus their team, and at the end of the day, I just want the Pittsburgh Steelers to come out with a win."

The two star defenders are going head-to-head again for the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Garrett has seven sacks and 23 tackles in 10 games. Watt has 7.5 sacks and 36 tackles. He also leads the NFL in forced fumbles with four.

Ravens star kicker Justin Tucker says Steelers' field conditions weren't 'ideal' after shaky performance

18 November 2024 at 13:57

This week’s NFL slate wasn’t a particularly good outing for kickers across the league, including one of the greatest of all time.

Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker hasn’t been his usual elite self this season, and his worst game couldn’t have come at a worse time against their AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tucker missed two field goals in what eventually became a deciding factor in the 18-16 loss for Baltimore, giving Pittsburgh possession of the AFC North throne for the moment.

After the game, Tucker was asked if the field conditions weren’t to his liking, to which he didn’t make an excuse.

However, he did mention it wasn’t the best conditions considering Pitt’s football team played Clemson in their college football matchup on Saturday before the Ravens and Steelers kicked off.

"I wouldn’t say the surface was an issue, but it wasn’t ideal," Tucker told reporters. "That’s something that we make it a point to account for by going out there in pre-game warmups and getting our feet under us, figuring out what the wind may be doing. But we’ve dealt with that plenty of times here, elsewhere, at home. Then, throughout the course of the game, the most action takes place in between the hashes, and it naturally gets chewed up."

STEELERS TAKE COMMAND OF AFC NORTH WIN WITH OVER RAVENS

As Tucker says, he’s not making any excuses, but social media didn’t take that as such considering Steelers kicker Chris Boswell was a perfect 6-for-6 on his field goal attempts, which ultimately won the Steelers the game.

Tucker was able to drill a 54-yard field goal to keep the Ravens in the divisional bout, but the 34-year-old has already missed six kicks this season, and he’s only missed a total of seven in a single season during his career.

Despite his struggles on Sunday, Boswell, who is having a solid season with just one miss on 30 attempts, was humble when asked if he’s taken the crown as the league’s best kicker from Tucker.

"No, not even close. That dude’s a legend," Boswell said. "He’s a Hall of Famer and next thing you know, he’ll go on another 100-field-goals-[made] streak and everyone will forget about this."

Tucker’s Ravens teammates and coaches also have confidence in their veteran kicker.

"The best option is to get Justin back on point," head coach John Harbaugh said, per ESPN. "We certainly haven’t lost any confidence in Justin. He’s definitely our best option."

Tucker added: "I’m still confident I’m going to go out there and nail every single kick. Part of the way we stay confident is by continuing to work and trust the process. I might sound like a broken record, but it's a part of what brings us success – is just trusting the process and then taking it one kick at a time."
