American figure skater Jon Maravilla is addressing reports that he was supposed to be on the American Airlines flight that collided with an Army helicopter.
The Daily Mail claimed on Thursday, January 30, that the American pairs figure skater was scheduled to be on the plane flying to Washington D.C., but he was denied boarding due restrictions related to his dog.
Maravilla clarified to the Daily Beast that he did not have a ticket for that flight. He was actually slated to take a Delta flight to Atlanta before transferring to Detroit with his Bichon Frisé, Yuki. While the fact that his dog prevented him from boarding the Delta flight is true, he shared that it was unclear where the false reports originated from but he was devastated by the tragedy.
“I still can’t believe it,” he said. “I was just with them having them have lots of fun and just enjoying their time.”
News broke on Wednesday, January 29, that an airplane crashed into an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport and fell into the Potomac River while trying to land. WUSA9 reported that more than “300 emergency crews” began conducting a search and rescue operation. More than a dozen bodies have since been recovered from the water.
There were reportedly 60 passengers and four crew members on Flight 5342, which left Kansas on Wednesday. The names of the athletes and coaches involved in the collision were not immediately shared, but The Skating Club of Boston has released the names of the American skaters associated with that organization. Doug Zeghibe, CEO and Executive Director, said in a statement, in part, “Our sport and this Club have suffered a horrible loss with this tragedy.”
U.S. Figure Skating also released a statement: “U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C. These athletes, coaches and family members were returning home from National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.”
Maravilla, for his part, documented his travel journey via his Instagram Story, sharing an image from inside Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. “Not allowed past gate to board flight,” he wrote. “Get me tf out of Kansas please.”
In another alleged photo, he shared a glimpse of his drive. “14 hour journey begins,” Maravilla wrote via his Instagram Story, along with the timestamp that read, “12:23 p.m.”
Maravilla reportedly told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti that there were “about 14 figure skaters on the plane, not counting their parents and coaches.” While not wanting to share the names of those who were on the aircraft, Maravilla said, “Such a tragedy.”
Some of the passengers aboard the flight were leaving the 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which was held in Wichita from January 20 to January 26. The U.S. Figure Skating website shared that a reception was held to mark the induction of the Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.

Alabama Barker is setting the record straight on rumors that she hooked up with Tyga and Soulja Boy.
The 19-year-old daughter of Travis Barker clapped back at fans in the comments of a recent TikTok video after Bhad Bhabie alluded to Alabama having a relationship with the two rappers in a recently released diss track.
“Did u mess with Soulja or Tyga?” one fan asked in the comment section of Alabama’s TikTok. She was quick to reply, writing, “Absolutely not.”
Bhabie, 21, whose real name is Danielle Bregoli, released the song “Over Cooked” earlier this week. She did not call out Alabama by name, but listeners are convinced that Bhabie, 21, was referring to the fellow influencer.
“Hatin’-ass hoe tried steal my baby daddy (Baby daddy) / F—in’ on Soulja [Boy] and Tyga got you pregnant (Uh),” the song lyrics read. “Tried to play me close, backdoor me, seen it comin’ (Seen it comin’) / Did all that for nothin’, bitch, he still gon’ come right back (He gon’ come right back).”
A newer version of the song, released via YouTube, has censored Soulja Boy and Tyga.
The comments section of Alabama’s TikTok videos have since been flooded with congratulatory messages. However, she has apparently shut down pregnancy rumors.
“Let’s clear this up,” Alabama wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “I never in my life have remotely been near Tyga. I’ve also never been pregnant, nor do I know Soulja Boy. The end.”
Alabama has been in an ongoing feud with Bhabie since late last month. At the time, Bhabie accused Alabama stealing her boyfriend, Le Vaughn.
“I want to be clear: I have no interest in this man, nor would I ever lower myself to be with someone who has been physically abusive towards women,” Alabama said in an Instagram Story statement, before addressing the situation in a TikTok video. (Bhabie and Le Vaughn welcomed daughter Kali in March 2024.)
“I’ve been to her house one time and I guess he was there, but I never saw his face,” she posted on December 18. “I’m not looking to wreck anyone’s home or family. I don’t get any cool points from that and I don’t benefit from it all. I also would never date this man.”
Alabama claimed that she did meet up with Le Vaughn and he would “continuously lie,” claiming to be single so she “did try to ghost” him.
“Sadly, I fell for his manipulative lies and after I told him I no longer wanted communication with him, he continuously tried to talk to me and put me in a very uncomfortable position,” Alabama continued. “I’m not going to disregard my faults in the situation. There are definitely certain things I could have gone about differently.”
She further claimed that she and Bhabie were “more like acquaintances than anything” else but has “regrets” about letting this drama “become a thing.”
“The situation is unfortunate and goes against my morals as a woman,” Alabama stated. “My intentions are never to break a family apart. That is the lowest of the barrel. Believe me or don’t believe me, that is just disgusting.”
With another Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl on the horizon, there’s no question who Kylie Kelce will be rooting for — but this year, her daughters are getting involved.
Kylie, 32, revealed during the Thursday, January 30, episode of her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast that she was at the NFC Championship Game over the weekend to watch Jason Kelce‘s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, defeat the Washington Commanders. Jason, 37, was at the AFC Championship Game to cheer on his brother, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
After recapping her experience at the Sunday, January 26, game in Philadelphia, Kylie addressed “the elephant in the room” by revealing which team will have her support in the Super Bowl next month. Jason and the Eagles previously lost to Travis, 37, and the Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl, which some fans dubbed the “Kelce Bowl.”
“Obviously, this time when the Eagles play the Chiefs, it is a little bit different because my husband is retired from the Eagles,” Kylie, who is a diehard Eagles fan independently from her marriage to Jason, explained. “That being said, I am so happy and proud of Travis and the Chiefs’ accomplishments. I think that the opportunity to play for such a historic milestone is incredible to be able to potentially witness. And I think that Travis has been there for his entire career, he has worked so hard and put in so much time that I am truly as always cheering Travis on. I love him, he’s my family. So I will always cheer on Travis’ accomplishments and hopefully successes.”
However, Kylie’s love for her brother-in-law doesn’t quite compare to her love for the Eagles. “I was raised to bleed green,” she continued. “I have friends who are still associated with the team. I have a close relationship with a lot of people in the Eagles organization. I get to live in the Philadelphia community, so I will also be cheering for the success of those people.”
Torn between the two sides, Kylie teased, “Ultimately, the plan is to go to the game and to cheer.”
Travis’ nieces — Kylie and Jason share daughters Wyatt, 5, Ellie, 3, and Bennett, 23 months, with another baby girl on the way — have permission to be a little less biased.
“We have made moves to get the girls ‘Go Uncle Trav’ shirts,” Kylie said on Thursday. “Because they love their uncle, and of course, they love cheering him on. And to be fair, they love cheering on the Birds too, but he is our family. I want to make sure that the girls feel included.”
When there’s not a Super Bowl title on the line, Kylie has no hard feelings toward Chiefs Kingdom. “Any other week, when I see Chiefs fans, I will tell them, ‘Go Chiefs.’ I will not be saying that for the next two weeks,” she said. “I can’t bring myself to do it, because then it feels as though I’m actively wishing it against [the Eagles]. … This is hard, I don’t like this. I’m not having fun.”
Jason, who retired from the NFL in 2024 after 13 seasons, has also been candid about which team he’ll be cheering for. During a March 2024 episode of his “New Heights” podcast, Jason said he would “of course” root for the Eagles, which Travis called “b——-.”
Jason shared even more insight into his loyalty on the Wednesday, January 29, episode of the siblings’ podcast. “Here’s the biggest thing. Obviously, you’re my brother. I’ll always root for my brother. That’s the reality of it, even though I’m decked out in Eagles gear [right now]. I’m always going to root for Travis,” he said, noting that his former teammates still “feel like extended family” post-retirement.
“I still feel like I’m a Philadelphia Eagle and I’m a part of all of these people who root and cheer on our team,” he added. “I would be lying if I said I don’t want the Eagles to win. I want them to, but I also want Travis Kelce to win.”
A more impartial option? “I’m rooting for Cher,” Jason teased after blasting “Believe,” which he called “the f—ing song of Super Bowl LIX.”
“I woke up nine days ago with a weird little sensation in my face,” Palin, 34, said in a Wednesday, January 29, Instagram Story video. “My mouth was pulling this way and it just felt a little off. So, I went and looked in the mirror. I’m like, ‘Wow, this is looking a little weird.’”
After “a couple of hours,” Palin found that the entire left side of her face “was numb and just paralyzed.”
“Couldn’t really blink my eye, definitely had no movement on the side of my face,” she said. “So crazy. [I] went to the doctor. They ran tests, they did a CT scan [and] they put me on steroids, put me on other medications. Nothing came back with all the results. They think it’s just a case of Bell’s palsy maybe brought on by stress or lack of sleep.”
Palin added, “I’m not really sure. There’s nothing that I was super stressed out about, but I think it was brought on by stress.” (According to the Mayo Clinic, Bell’s palsy is a temporary condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face.)
According to the Teen Mom alum, her face still “looks crazy” — but in an improved state.
“This is such an improvement from what I was looking like,” Palin explained on Wednesday. “I’m finally starting to get some of the sensation back. It’s been, like, a little painful the last two days, which is a sign [and a] good indication that it’s getting better, so praise the Lord.”
Bristol, who is the eldest daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, further revealed that she will be grateful for “a normal functioning face” when the paralysis fully goes away.
“This has been wild,” Bristol added. “Also if you know anyone that has any of these symptoms, I would highly suggest going more of the Eastern medicine [route], as well. I’ve been getting acupuncture multiple times and that’s helped speed up the process of recovery tremendously.”
In a series of follow-up videos, Bristol shared that her paralysis worsened over the course of a full week.
“There’s absolutely zero movement on the left side of my face,” Bristol said in a throwback video taken on Day 3. “My nose hurts because it’s a little crooked. So crazy.”
According to Bristol, her face was “still completely numb” by the sixth day of her health scare. Two days later, she thought “it was getting a little better.”
CNN is looking back at the life and legacy of basketball great Kobe Bryant, from his on-court triumphs to the sexual assault allegation that cast a cloud over the second half of his career.
Part two of the three-part Kobe: The Making of a Legend series debuts on Saturday, February 1, and delves into the sexual assault complaint levied against the late Los Angeles Lakers star.
In an exclusive look provided to Us Weekly, the episode features video of Bryant heading into a Colorado courtroom before journalist Miki Turner, prosecutor Ingrid Bakke and district attorney Mark Hurlbert take turns reading the statement Bryant released after the charges against him were dropped.
Bryant was accused of raping a 19-year-old woman at a Colorado hotel in 2003. The alleged victim filed a police report and authorities questioned Bryant about bruising on her neck. Bryant initially denied the sexual encounter before admitting it took place but insisting it was consensual. The Lakers star was arrested that July and was preparing to stand trial the following when a prosecutor dismissed the charges after the accuser experienced harassment and death threats and opted not to testify.
“First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman involved in this incident,” his statement began. “I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure.”
He went on to reinforce his claim that the sexual encounter was consensual, though he understood the alleged victim did not feel the same way.
“I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did,” he said. “After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney and even hearing her testify in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”
Though the criminal charges against Bryant were dropped, the NBA star and his accuser settled a civil lawsuit out of court for an undisclosed amount of money.
Bryant’s wife Vanessa, whom he married in 2001, stood by his side throughout the legal proceedings and until his death in 2020. The two shared four daughters, Natalia, Gianna, Bianka and Capri. Gianna died with Kobe and seven others in a helicopter crash that took place while they were on their way to one of Gianna’s basketball games.
In the years after the alleged incident, Bryant began to regain the sponsors he lost and repair his reputation. He went on to win two more NBA championships and an MVP award. In 2020, he was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Episode 2 of Kobe: The Making of a Legend premieres Saturday, February 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CNN.

The couple enjoyed a rare public outing at the London premiere of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, on Wednesday, January 29. Grant, 64, channeled his inner rom-com leading man in a classic black tux and white dress shirt, while Eberstein, 41, looked chic in a long-sleeved white tweed dress with fringe details. She accessorized her look with a matching white clutch and nude heels.
The pair were all smiles while posing on the pink carpet. In addition to taking snaps with his wife, Grant also joined several of his costars for group photos, including fellow OG Bridget Jones stars Renée Zellweger, Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones, as well as new additions Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Grant famously played Daniel Cleaver, the rival love interest to Colin Firth’s Mark Darcy, in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. He did not return for the third installment, 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. His character was seemingly killed off, though a newspaper headline shown at the end of the film revealed that Daniel was alive.
Mad About the Boy, which hits Peacock next month, picks up with Bridget (Zellweger) after Mark’s death. While navigating life as a single mother with the help of Daniel, she seemingly catches feelings for her son’s science teacher, Scott (Ejiofor), while starting up a romance with the much younger Roxster (Woodall).
Off screen, Grant and Eberstein kept their romance under wraps until the birth of their son, John, in September 2012. The pair briefly split before reconnecting and welcoming their daughters, Lulu and Blue, in December 2015 and March 2018, respectively. (Grant also shares his eldest daughter, Tabitha, 13, and son Felix, 12, with Tinglan Hong.)
Grant married Eberstein in 2018 and previously revealed that his wife isn’t a big fan of rom-coms. “My wife is the man in our house, really. She likes violent films, gangster films while I’m sitting there watching Roman Holiday or The Sound of Music or something,” he shared in a November 2020 interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “So, she’s never liked those films I did in the past, which are all romance and stuff. But now she’s starting to get a taste for [my work].”
Eberstein supported her husband at the Berlin premiere of his movie Heretic in November 2024. The horror film scored him a 2025 Golden Globes nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Eberstein joined him at the January 5 awards ceremony, where he ultimately lost the award to Sebastian Stan for A Different Man.
Grant and Eberstein weren’t the only couple who attended the Bridget Jones premiere on Wednesday. Though leading lady Zellweger, 55, walked the pink carpet solo, she was later joined by her boyfriend, Ant Anstead, at the film’s afterparty at the London restaurant Brasserie Zedel. The duo, who began dating in 2021, were spotted leaving the event together in photos obtained by the Daily Mail.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy premieres on Peacock Thursday, February 13.
U.S. figure skater Spencer Lane shared a photo from his flight before the American Airlines plane crashed in Washington D.C.
Lane, 16, took to Instagram Story on Wednesday, January 29, to upload a photo of the jet on the runaway at Wichita Airport in Kansas before it took off. “ICT -> DCA,” read the post, which are the codes for Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington D.C.
In a separate post, Lane reflected on his professional accomplishment, writing, “NDC!! I am so happy to have qualified for national development camp earlier in november, it has been my goal almost ever since I became aware that it was a thing. I learned so much new information that i can apply to my everyday life, and met so many amazing people!”
He continued: “Thank you so much @team.genia.vadim , @annehgoldbergbaldwin , and @skatingclubbos for supporting me in achieving my goal, and always pushing me to be the best i can be. Thank you @usfigureskating and the local organizing committee for making everything happen, and lastly, huge thank you to all the amazing friends, coaches, and faculty that i have met over the last week, it was such an amazing experience.”
News broke on Wednesday night that an airplane crashed into an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. and fell into the Potomac River while attempting to land. According to WUSA9, more than “300 emergency crews” arrived to conduct a search and rescue operation. More than a dozen bodies were recovered from the water by divers.
“U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C.” a statement from the organization read. “These athletes, coaches and family members were returning home from National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.”
The International Skating Union addressed the tragedy in their own statement after it was reported that two Russian skaters, Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were also on the plane.
“We are heartbroken to learn that figure skaters, along with their families, friends, and coaches, are understood to be among those on board,” they stated. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. Figure skating is more than a sport — it’s a close-knit family — and we stand together. We remain in close contact with U.S. Figure Skating and offer our full support during this incredibly difficult time.”
Some of the passengers on the flight were coming back from the 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which took place in Wichita from January 20 to January 26. The U.S. Figure Skating website noted that a reception was held to mark the induction of the Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.
The Princess of Wales, 43, visited Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in Sully near Cardiff, Wales on Thursday, January 30, according to a Buckingham Palace press release issued to Us Weekly. Middleton was named patron of the charity on the same day.
Middleton took over the role from father-in-law King Charles III, 76, who had been patron of the hospice since 2001. The late Princess Diana was also a patron during the charity’s initial fundraising stage.
However, Diana wasn’t able to see the impact the charity had when it opened as Wales’ first children’s hospice in 1999, two years after her death.
“We are deeply honoured that Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has become Patron of Tŷ Hafan and it was an absolute pleasure to welcome Her Royal Highness to our hospice for the first time today,” Irfon Rees, chief executive of Tŷ Hafan, said in a statement.
“As our Patron, Her Royal Highness will be an inspiration for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, our dedicated staff and volunteers and everyone who so generously supports us,” Rees said.
“No parent ever imagines that their child’s life will be short. Sadly this is the reality facing thousands of families in Wales. We can’t stop this happening, but together we can make sure that no one lives their child’s short life alone,” the statement concluded.
Middleton spent time with children, families, and members of staff during her visit to the hospice.
It’s an important cause for Middleton, who has centered many of her royal duties and projects around childhood development. In 2021, she launched the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood “to raise awareness of why the first five years of life are just so important for our future life outcomes.”
The engagement comes after Middleton and Prince William met with Holocaust survivors for Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday, January 27.
The royal is slowly getting re-adjusted with royal duties after announcing her cancer was in remission on January 14.
In an interview for Us Weekly’s latest cover story, royal historian Marlene Koenig said Middleton is “not a person who likes to sit on her hands.”
“She’s shown such grace. Even in her illness, she recognized the responsibility of her privilege and did what she could, whether it was just a word of comfort or a message or speaking to people involved with her different charities,” Koenig said.
Meanwhile, a source told Us that “all eyes are on Kate” during her return to work.
“Part of the issue is she’s so popular and gets so much attention. It’s like any royal event she attends has a halo around it and goes well, so the public wants as much of her as possible,” the source said.
Matlock is building up to unveil Matty’s secret identity, but not everyone — including Skye P. Marshall — is ready for the reveal.
“I did not want to know her secret until season 3, to be honest with you,” Marshall, 43, joked during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. “I wanted Matty Matlock to just carry on with her shenanigans and her MacGyver techniques.”
Marshall, who plays Olympia on the CBS series, would have preferred to see Kathy Bates‘ character come clean on her own instead of being caught.
“The audience has got to witness what this has been doing to this woman and the impact that she has on everyone around her — and if she can see it or not. Does she see what her goal is and how that is contributing to other people’s pain — like with her husband, Edwin, and grandson Alfie,” she noted. “I wanted Olympia to stay laser-beam focused on her goal of accomplishment.”
Matlock, which premiered in September 2024, became an overnight hit in large part due to its innovative storytelling. The series follows a wealthy retired lawyer named Madeline Kingston (Bates) who pretends to be a poor widower named Matty Matlock to get a job at a firm. It’s eventually revealed that Matty thinks someone at the company is complicit in the opioid epidemic that resulted in her daughter’s death.
Olympia is one of the suspects until she and Matty start to form a bond. Their friendship starts to chip away at Matty’s commitment to her mission, but Olympia is not aware of Matty’s suspicions as she remains focused on her own personal and professional challenges.
“I had the same trials that Olympia had. There was so much familiarity there that I have found myself personally in that pursuit of happiness in the industry of acting. I just couldn’t quite see everything else that was happening around me because I was so focused on the goal,” the actress recalled. “I wanted to share that same challenge with Olympia. The fact that she gets up and she’s always put together because she has to make sure that she’s a step ahead of everyone and she also has to figure out how to take care of her family.”
Marshall continued: “I don’t think she even knows that Matty Matlock would want her to know or need her to know. I was just going to wait for that to happen. And our writers did not tell us anything, so at every table read, I was just like, ‘Is this the episode that she finds out? Nope, not this episode.’”
While viewers see Matty’s reasoning, Marshall has preferred to keep herself in the dark.
“When I would go through the script, I would skip over any conversations that Matty had with her family. Olympia does not know that universe. She doesn’t know Matty’s intentions or her goals. I wanted to do my best to stay focused on who Olympia is,” she explained. “I think Matty has created such a web of lies that Olympia has no reason to expect her to be someone else. Olympia wouldn’t investigate any further.”
Marshall went on to praise Matlock for balancing a case of the week with more personal stories for each character.
“[Creator] Jennie Snyder Urman is an incredible writer and she has such a unique way to create such a delicious mystery where you will cry and you will laugh in the same episode,” she told Us. “She has a way of making people feel more connected to characters that they’re just getting to know. That’s not easy these days, so when everybody shows up every week to tune in — a large fraction of that turnout is because the writing is just so fantastic.”
After sharing the screen with Bates, 76, for an entire season, Marshall gushed over her costar, adding, “She is so unpredictable. When she performs, I only do my best to not act and just be present with her because I know that she’s giving the editors such a variety to choose from. It challenges me to also expand the variation of responses that I give. It is phenomenal that we can keep the same language on the page but change the tone and change the pace. That chemistry is what the audience is really hooking onto.”
Marshall concluded: “Then you have the overarching mystery that keeps the audience hooked in this back half of new episodes leading to the season finale. There’s the momentum of both Olympia getting to her own personal goal of making it to the top of the food chain at the law firm and Matty figuring out who’s responsible for hiding evidence. It gets amped all the way up where you see Matty and Olympia just running full throttle toward our goals until you get to what is going to be an insane outcome.”
Matlock airs on CBS Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET and new episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.
The results of an investigation into Russell Brand’s conduct while working at the BBC have been published, with the British broadcasting network apologizing to staff who felt afraid to speak up about the star’s behavior.
In the report, released by the BBC on Thursday, January 30, Peter Johnston, the broadcaster’s director of editorial complaints and reviews, found that there had been eight complaints about Brand’s misconduct during his period as a radio presenter on stations Radio 2 and 6 Music from 2006 to 2008 — but only two were made while he worked there.
The report revealed that staff felt “unable to raise” concerns due to Brand’s star power. “The culture of the time undoubtedly influenced what was acceptable/tolerated, but I have found that a number of individuals had concerns about Russell Brand’s behaviour which they felt unable to raise then,” Johnston noted. “Many interviewees believed, rightly or wrongly, that Russell Brand would always get his way and therefore they stayed silent.”
Some of the behavior reported included allegations of Brand, 49, urinating into cups while in the radio studio, throwing objects around, having sex on the premises — on one occasion, with a competition winner — and exposing himself to staff and visitors. One incident involving a woman, referred to by the alias Olivia, in which Brand allegedly followed her into the bathroom moments before a show and showed her his penis, was “fairly common knowledge” among colleagues, the report suggests.
“I have heard it was often ‘joked about,’ which is unacceptable for something so serious,” Johnston wrote.
The investigation also spoke to a woman, given the alias Alice, who said she was in a relationship with Brand for around three months when she was 16. She said that Brand would send drivers, supplied by the BBC, to take her from her school to his home in north London.
Johnston claimed, “If Russell Brand did persuade a taxi or mini-cab pre-booked on his behalf by the BBC to make these journeys, I find that this is likely to have been done without the knowledge of the BBC staff who booked his cars for him in advance and to and from fixed locations.”
The report concluded: “What is clear is that many BBC staff and freelancers, especially in more junior roles, found Russell Brand demanding and difficult to work with and his behaviour extreme, but all felt that there was no point in complaining as they believed they would not be listened to and, rightly or wrongly, that Russell Brand as a high-profile presenter had the support of the station management.”
The BBC has accepted responsibility for not dealing with some of the issues at the time. “It is also clear that there were compliance inadequacies on some of Russell Brand’s Radio 2 shows which led to content being aired that would not be broadcast today,” they said. “Russell Brand left the BBC in 2008 following a high-profile editorial breach. As has been reported, there is an ongoing police investigation into Russell Brand. The BBC has been in contact with the Metropolitan police throughout the review and they have seen the report. The BBC acknowledges that Russell Brand categorically denies all public allegations made against him.”
The BBC launched the investigation after, in 2023, several women accused the star of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse. Brand has denied all allegations and said his relationships were “always consensual.”
So far, Brand and his reps have not commented on the BBC’s findings.
“It’s the first time that I’d be sitting on a couch and all of a sudden my daughter, who’s 8 years old, is starting to talk about football to me,” Edelman, 38, told Us Weekly exclusively while promoting Angel Soft’s first-ever Super Bowl commercial. “I’m a football player, so I think it’s been so cool for that aspect. My daughter and her friends, they all talk about the Chiefs.”
Edelman joked that as a former New England Patriots wide receiver “it’s tough” for him to hear about his daughter’s newfound Chiefs fandom. Still, overall, he says thinks “it’s great” that Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce has made football exciting to watch for more people. (Edelman played for the Patriots for 12 seasons from 2009 to 2020.)
“It’s growing the sport and that’s what we all want,” he said.
While Lily is a budding NFL fan, she will not be joining her dad at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
“She’s got school, so she will not be making it,” he told Us. “Daddy’s got to work. Maybe soon we’ll bring her to a Super Bowl. It’s a lot. There’s so many logistics — passes for this, passes for that line. It’s chaos.”
This year’s Super Bowl, set to take place on Sunday, February 9, will feature the Chiefs going against the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of 2023’s Big Game.
Edelman will be working, but he’ll “definitely” be on the lookout for Swift — especially when it comes to the possibility of an autograph for Lily, whom he shares with model Ella Rose. (Edelman noted that he might have met Swift in 2010 when she played at Gillette Stadium during his Patriots tenure.)
“We’ll get that,” he assured Us. “I mean Trav, dude, help me out.”
Edelman teamed up with Angel Soft to give football fans a bathroom break — or potty-tunity — during the Super Bowl next month.
“They’re taking out, literally, a full commercial at the Super Bowl to allow you — and all of us who are glued to the TV because the game and the commercials — to take a bathroom break,” he explained, noting that the “cutie” Angel Soft angel is always there as a reminder.
Angel Soft debuted their commercial on Tuesday, January 28, telling fans that the ad spot is designed to be missed so they can use the bathroom right before Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show. Edelman teamed up with sports commentator Charissa Thompson for his portion of the commercial, which features him running from the bathroom to the Big Game.
“It was fun. It was tough doing a running hallway scene in Jimmy Choo boots 50 times,” he quipped. “Feet are probably broken, but thankfully I had some Angels Soft to put ’em on afterwards.”

“They’ve both kept their promises, and their marriage has done a 180,” a source exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “They’re in a completely different place than they were a year ago.”
Justin, 30, and Hailey, 28, had a vow renewal ceremony in May 2024. The couple subsequently revealed they were expecting their first child. Hailey gave birth to their son, Jack, in August 2024. Since expanding their family, the connection between the pair has only strengthened.
“Justin and Hailey are both trying their best to balance parenting and their lives,” the insider tells Us. “They have a different marriage now — and their priorities have shifted.”
Earlier this month, Justin raised eyebrows after eagle-eyed fans noticed that his Instagram account was no longer following his wife, which Us later confirmed. The incident came just hours after the “Baby” singer had shared a sweet tribute to his wife while showing photos from a winter getaway, calling Hailey the “greatest woman I have and will ever know.”
Hailey, however, was still following her husband.
The unfollow sparked speculation that the duo had hit a rough patch — but the musician was quick to set the record straight.
“Someone went on my account and unfollowed my wife,” he wrote via his Instagram Story on January 21. “S— is getting suss out here.”
Justin later shared a selfie via his Instagram Story set to the song “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” by Kendrick Lamar. Hailey, for her part, posted a series of snaps that featured Justin. In one pic, Justin seemingly appeared to be sleeping while sitting inside a restaurant. Later, the Rhode founder followed up her post by uploading a snap of herself toting a bag with “Mrs. Bieber” emblazoned across the front.
Hailey and Justin first started dating in 2015. The pair split one year later but rekindled their romance in 2018. They got engaged just months later and wed in a New York City courthouse in September of that year. In 2019, they hosted a second wedding with their family and friends in attendance.
After welcoming Jack, a separate source exclusively told Us that Justin and Hailey’s relationship had completely changed.
“He’s truly brought them so much happiness and a renewed bond,” the insider said at the time.

If you practically live in two-piece outfits lately, same. The right two-piece outfit set is one of the most versatile outfits there is, especially since it can be dressed up, down and all around depending on the occasion. But some two-piece sets are just a matching sweatshirt and sweatpants; that’s why it’s key to find the right one!
The right outfit set — one that checks both the stylish and comfortable boxes — is classy, cozy and luxe. It’s typically made of a luxury material like cashmere, but I found one on Amazon that looks and feels like the high-end ones without breaking $40. In fact, I prefer it over my expensive ones! It makes me look Italian or French everywhere I go — including to the couch.
This knit lounge set is made of a lightweight polyester and rayon blend that’s breathable, skin-friendly and cooling. The short-sleeve top has drop shoulders, a crew neckline and contrasting color block lines that match the hems. It also has side splits and a darling high low style! The sleeves are loose and flowy, hitting just above the elbows. I adore the way this top half-tucks into the pants, but you can leave it out hanging free for an equally classy look!
The pants are swoon-worthy in and of themselves. An elastic waistband ensures they don’t squish or squeeze, perfect for days when you want to look put together but feel like you’re wearing sweatpants . . . so, every day. They have a wide-leg design with a high waist, a duo that lengthens your legs and makes you seem taller.
For an athleisure flair, try wearing this outfit with all-white sneakers and a casual zip-front sweatshirt. If dinner out is on your agenda, I love the look of this set with chunky platform boots, a trench coat and plenty of sparkly jewelry. I wear it with strappy sandals and Birkenstocks during the summer, too, so it’s really an all-year-round outfit!
And while the set pieces are designed to be worn together (obviously), I’ve been mixing and matching them with other pieces in my closet for endless winter looks. The pants pair perfectly with a tank top and black denim jacket; they can also be worn with an oversized sweater and dainty necklace for running errands or meeting the girls for coffee. I’ve worn the top with black leather pants and boots, too!
There are 10 different luxe-looking colors to choose from, all with either black or white hems. You’re destined to find your new favorite outfit, whether for lounging, dining, flying or all of the above. Reviewers are obsessed, too, writing that it’s “so well made and comfortable” and “not pajama-looking”. One reviewer says it’s “great, comfy, and professional looking”, writing, ” I’m buying another color right now! This is a dream comfort outfit – feels like jammies but be a go-to for work.”
Another reviewer titled her review, “I think everyone bought this!” and wrote, “My bestie showed up at my house in this set and I immediately purchased one as well. I just went to a professional tradeshow and saw three women in this . . .”
Let this be your sign! It’s on sale right now, so take advantage of it.
Get the Ekouaer Knit Lounge Set for $39 (originally $50) on Amazon! Please note, prices are accurate at the date of publication, January 30, 2024, but are subject to change.

The Virgin River universe is growing with an upcoming prequel — but how will the show reintroduce fans to Mel’s parents?
The beloved family drama, which premiered in 2019, follows the lives of residents living in a small town in Northern California, including Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her love interest Jack (Martin Henderson). The series also stars Colin Lawrence, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, Mark Ghanimé and Kai Bradbury.
Mel’s complicated personal life has always been at the forefront of the series, but a Christmas special in season 5 kicked things up a notch when she found out the identity of her biological father, Everett (John Allen Nelson). Season 6 explored the duo’s budding relationship, as well as provided flashbacks revealing how Everett and Mel’s mom, Sarah, first met. The insight into their love story paved the way for an enhanced story in prequel form.
“What we’re exploring more in season 6 [of Virgin River] is who Everett Reid is, what his backstory is, what his connection to Virgin River was when he met her mom and then also what it is today,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline in December 2023, noting that the season would explore the “relationship of Everett with the town as well as Everett and Mel.”

When Will the ‘Virgin River’ Prequel Premiere on Netflix?
The spinoff is currently being developed by Smith, who has been a showrunner on Virgin River since season 5. Smith teased the show’s progress in December 2024, telling TVLine, “I’m writing it as soon as I get off [the phone] with you, so we’ll see. Fingers crossed!”
What Time Period Would the Prequel Explore?
Based on the flashback seasons from season 6 of Virgin River, the prequel would go back to the 1960s. Smith elaborated to Deadline in December 2024 about his plan to “still speak [to] and feel relevant to issues of today” despite being a period piece.
“That is what Virgin River itself has done beautifully in its balance of not being so boxy but also having something to say that still matters,” he said about the “romance-forward” and “character-based” expansion of the Virgin River universe.
Who Makes Up the Cast?
Virgin River season 6 introduced Callum Kerr as the young version of Everett while Jessica Rothe played young Sarah. Fans of the fictional small town can probably expect to see more of characters such as Bert (Trevor Lerner), Connie (Nicola Cavendish), Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) — if not more.
“Each book was focusing on one couple and expanding the world outside of it, to put Sarah and Everett in the foreground of their own story, while populating, as Virgin River has, the world with supporting characters and other relationships — but all still running it through the romance lens — to me, is what defines a lot of what an expansion of the show and the franchise would be,” Smith told Deadline.
The screenwriter elaborated while speaking with Us Weekly, “And it felt like looking at Mel’s biological parents as having the depth of this epic romance that would be book worthy. [Something] that could span time, that could be star crossed and could have a pregnancy and a child and a father that wants to be a part of that. And everything just felt like a unique way to explore a couple in this through the lens of this show in a way that we haven’t seen before.”
What Do We Know About Everett and Sarah’s Love Story?
Virgin River explained to Us that Mel’s mother died when she was 11 years old, but it wasn’t until season 5 that she found out the identity of her biological father. Mel learned of Everett through love letters he once sent her mother, although he initially pretended not to know who Mel was when she first confronted him. He ultimately returned with a music box that featured Sarah’s voice.
“[The prequel would] expand Sarah and Everett’s story more while also expanding and learning more about the history of Virgin River,” Smith shared with Us in December 2024. “One reference that was made in the pilot that had never really been explored before was Hope says that the McCrae Cabin is a place that people within 50 miles know all about, which implies there she has a sort of family legacy to this area that we haven’t really gotten to scratch the surface of.”
“When we committed to the idea of introducing Everett, it felt like a great opportunity as somebody who we know has resided in the area but has kind of removed and isolated himself from the community to have this history and have this relationship to this town and to this area,” he explained about having an “opportunity that we could introduce a new couple, which the show has done fairly consistently over the course of the seasons, and not inherit another couple that we have to keep servicing in the present.”
U.S. Figure Skating announced that American Airlines Flight 5342 was carrying several of its athletes when it crashed into the Potomac River.
The organization provided a statement to news outlet WUSA9 on Thursday, January 30. “U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C.” the statement read. “These athletes, coaches and family members were returning home from National Development Camp held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.”
There were reportedly 60 passengers and four crew members on Flight 5342, which departed from Kansas on Wednesday, January 29. The names of the athletes and coaches involved in the crash were not immediately revealed.
News broke late Wednesday night that an airplane crashed into an Army helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. and fell into the Potomac River while attempting to land. WUSA9 reported that “more than 300 emergency crews” arrived to the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation. Divers recovered more than a dozen bodies from the water.
According to an Army official, three soldiers were on the helicopter at the time of the incident. A person familiar with the matter told the Associated Press that there were multiple fatalities, but the exact number of victims is unknown.
The International Skating Union issued its own statement following the crash, noting that it was “deeply shocked by the tragic accident.” (It was reported that two Russian skaters, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were also on the plane.)
“We are heartbroken to learn that figure skaters, along with their families, friends, and coaches, are understood to be among those on board,” the organization noted, per ESPN. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. Figure skating is more than a sport — it’s a close-knit family — and we stand together. We remain in close contact with U.S. Figure Skating and offer our full support during this incredibly difficult time.”
The 2025 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place in Wichita from January 20 to January 26, including individual and pairs events, per the U.S. Figure Skating website. A reception was also held to mark the induction of the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame’s class of 2025.
“Timothée is very focused on his career and Kylie loves being on the sidelines cheering him on,” a source exclusively shares in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “She loves that she’s in the spotlight more than her. It’s been a breath of fresh air.”
Chalamet, 29, and Jenner, 27, have been together since 2023 and recently made a pair of back-to-back appearances earlier this month. The Kardashians star made a low-key appearance in New York City on January 25 in support of Chalamet’s Saturday Night Live episode.
Weeks earlier, she joined him at the 2025 Golden Globes when he was nominated for a trophy for his role in A Complete Unknown. (Chalamet, who played Bob Dylan in the biopic, lost Best Actor in a Drama to Adrien Brody in The Brutalist.)
While neither Chalamet nor Jenner have publicly spoken about their romance at length, the insider further tells Us that her famous family has “welcomed Timothée with open arms.” The source also notes that Jenner’s two children — Stormi, 7, and Aire, 3, whom she shares with ex Travis Scott — have also met Chalamet.
“They love him,” the source adds, noting that the couple aren’t in a rush to take the next step in their romance. “This is a very different relationship dynamic than what Kylie is used to. [It’s] opened her eyes to the more artistic side of the industry.”
Jenner has since been by Chalamet’s side at several of his movie premieres and both the 2024 and 2025 Golden Globes, respectively. A second source previously told Us that Jenner and Chalamet balance their relationship with their respective busy schedules.
“They both have really busy schedules but make as much time for each other as possible,” the second insider told Us in January 2024. “Timothée is always making Kylie smile. They have a very special connection.”
A third source later told Us in July 2024 that Jenner and Chalamet “communicate on a regular basis.”
“They’ve gone on a number of dates recently, but they always do their best to try and stay under the radar as much as possible,” the third source added.
While Jenner has yet to publicly discuss her romance with Chalamet, she has admitted to enjoying his film projects.
“I do love that movie,” she quipped to WSJ. Magazinein October 2023 when asked about Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
Chalamet, of course, has starred in the two-part franchise based on Frank Herbert’s dystopian novel of the same name.

Princess Beatrice of York and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second child together on Wednesday, January 22.
Buckingham Palace shared news of the birth in a statement to Us Weekly one week later on Wednesday, January 29, and revealed that the couple had named their daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.
Athena has not yet been added to the line of succession on the royal family’s website; however, she is expected to be named 11th in line to the British throne behind Beatrice and Edoardo’s eldest daughter, Sienna, who was born in September 2021. (Edoardo also has a son, Christopher Woolf ‘Woolfie’ Mapelli Mozzi, born in 2016 from a previous relationship with Dara Huang.)
Athena’s arrival will place Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, back one place to 12th in line. Eugenie’s children, August (born in February 2021) and Ernest (born in May 2023) will be pushed back to 13th and 14th place respectively.
This also means that King Charles’ youngest brother, Prince Edward, 60, will move from 14th to 15th place in the line of succession. Edward’s children, James, Earl of Wessex, 17, and The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, 21, will move to 16th and 17th place respectively.
Charles’ sister Princess Anne, 74, will also be affected. Anne — known as the U.K.’s “hardest working royal” — will move from 17th to 18th place in line to the throne.
Prince William, 42, is first in line to the throne, closely followed by his children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
Prince Harry, 40, is fifth in line, followed by his own children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Prince Andrew, 64, is eighth in line while Beatrice, 36, is ninth in line.
Like her older sister, Beatrice’s new baby is unlikely to have a royal title.
As Beatrice and Edoardo aren’t working royals, baby Athena will most likely be a private citizen and will not be expected to undertake official duties as she gets older.
“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday, January 29.
“The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces,” the statement said. “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”
