Season 23 hopeful Abi Bowen may have given one of the most memorable auditions in American Idol history.
During the season premiere of the singing competition, which aired Sunday, March 9, the Tennessee native tried to conquer her stage fright as she stepped in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie for a chance at earning a golden ticket to Hollywood. She was inspired to audition by her late mother, Miriam Collins, who was a fan of the show before her 2023 death.
Before she began to sing Bonnie Raitt‘s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” — the same song Underwood, 41, auditioned with back in 2005 — Bowen took the judges by surprise by turning away from their table and donning a pair of sunglasses. She performed the song with her back to the trio, who eventually snuck away from their seats to stand in front of her.
The unconventional audition left a big impression on the judges in more ways than one. Bryan, 48, even compared Bowen to season 22 alum Emmy Russell, granddaughter of country legend Loretta Lynn, who referred to herself as “timid” during her own audition last year.

While impressed by Bowen’s soulful voice, Underwood urged her to consider what she wanted to get out of the competition — especially with live shows on the horizon.
The judges also teased that Bowen’s eclectic fashion sense — she entered the audition room wearing a large Western hat, bolo tie, a blue shirt and dark-washed denim — didn’t quite help her blend in with the crowd.
Despite her stage fright, Bowen earned her ticket to the next round, celebrating the milestone with her husband and her young son, Stetson.
“This is something I would have absolutely never done before. … I’ve been dealing with stage fright my whole life,” Bowen said in an interview before her audition aired. “This is a big step for me not just in music, but in proving to myself that I can do hard things.”

Bowen added that she has a “go with the flow” mentality, which helped her make the choice to put herself out there. “I kind of woke up one day and decided I was just gonna do it and see what happens because no matter what happens, it’s an experience of a lifetime,” she said of appearing on Idol.
No matter the show, it’s rare for reality TV contestants to be in it to make friends, but making new connections was top of mind for Bowen.
“You don’t realize how many stories there are in this, such a small world,” she said. “Like, you get to know all these people and you find out why they’re doing it. And you know, some people have some pretty crazy stories and I’m really excited to hopefully make friendships that last a lifetime.”

Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell got emotional watching his son, Baylee Littrell, chasing his American Idol dreams.
The 22-year-old’s audition was shown during the Sunday, March 9, premiere of the singing competition’s 23rd season. New judge Carrie Underwood said she noticed something “familiar” about Baylee before he revealed his dad’s identity.
“You must forgive me, I didn’t have your dad’s posters in my room,” Luke Bryan teased as Underwood, 41, exclaimed that Baylee resembled his father.
Baylee opened up to the Idol cameras about growing up in the spotlight at the height of the Backstreet Boys’ success, joking that while he inherited his singing abilities from his dad, the same couldn’t be said for dancing.

“Following in my dad’s footsteps is scary because his career to me is one of the most extraordinary in music history. No one can ever compare,” Baylee gushed. “I remember being 8 or 9 years old and they sold out this huge arena and I got to open up for them. I just had my two little songs and I came off stage and when the guys went on, the screams and the lights went down. I was just mesmerized.”
Brian, now 50, reflected on how his time as a boy band star affected his son, whom he shares with wife Leighanne Wallace.
“Obviously, growing up in the industry, a lot of people look at that as such a perk. But it’s not easy,” Brian said. “I’ve always told everybody that he’s 10 times more talented than I ever was.”
Outside of the audition room, Brian teared up while praising Baylee’s hard work. “We’re super proud. … I think he’s cut out for it,” he added.
Baylee went on to perform an “emotional” original song for Bryan, 48, Underwood and Lionel Richie. “This song is about me personally wanting to give up and not giving up yet,” he told the cameras. “Trust me, I wish I wanted to do something completely different. But if I’m not doing music, there’s no way I can really exist.”

His performance left Underwood stunned — even more so due to the fact that he wrote the song himself. “I think you could go very, very far in this competition,” she said.
Bryan subsequently invited Baylee’s dad to sing the chorus with him. “I don’t know what to do anymore / I seem to be all alone in this war / Always by myself with no one by my side,” the pair sang. “What to do, what to do with my life / It seems I have no more tears left to cry / Misery takes my time / I’m waiting on myself to die.”
Following the surprise duet, Underwood reiterated that Baylee’s talent spoke for itself. “For your superstar singer dad to come in here, I feel like for anybody else, it would make you look bad. But it didn’t. You were right there with him,” she said. “You didn’t pale, you didn’t shy away. You were like, ‘This is my moment.’”
When all three judges agreed on sending Baylee to Hollywood, Brian said proudly, “I’m gonna cry. I’m crying.”

Kristin Cavallari reunited with several original Laguna Beach cast members during a live taping of her podcast.
Cavallari, 38, appeared in Chicago for a live recording of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast on Saturday, March 8, as part of her The Headline Tour. The Laguna Beach and The Hills alum shared several photos and videos from the evening via Instagram, which included guest Harry Jowsey.
Another photo showed Cavallari’s former Laguna Beach costars — Lala Olsen, Jason Wahler, Alex Murrel, Talan Torriero and Jess Revans — joining her onstage. “Chicago got wild!!!!” Cavallari captioned her post. “Love my OG Laguna crew and my fave @harryjowsey.”
Members of the “OG Laguna crew” also took to social media to post about the show. Murrel, 38, shared a behind-the-scenes look at her night in Chicago on Sunday, March 9, via Instagram, writing in the caption, “I love Chicago so many laughs, talks, hugs and memories made! Thank you @kristincavallari for having us .”

Olsen, meanwhile, shared a video via Instagram of the “OG Laguna crew” dancing backstage before Cavallari’s show, with all of them lip-syncing, “We’re back!”
It’s likely the Laguna crew’s visit to Cavallari’s live taping may end up in her new E! docuseries, which was announced earlier this month. Cavallari announced her return to TV on the Tuesday, March 4, episode of “Let’s Be Honest,” with the docuseries set to “follow the entire podcast tour journey.”
“I know that I have said I will not go back to reality TV 5,000 times. This is different,” she revealed. “This is not just a show about my personal life. I’m not dating on the show. It’s not trying to come up with drama for story lines. This is truly a docuseries in the best sense of the word.”
Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour will premiere on E! on Thursday, June 5. According to Cavallari, she intends to make the show “as authentic as possible.” She teased, “I’m excited and just show you guys the behind-the-scenes. I’m going to save all the juicy stuff for the show and the actual podcast.”

The Headline Tour kicked off in Atlanta on Friday, March 7, with plans to stop in four cities total, including Chicago, Boston and New York.

“Each tour stop will feature a guest who has made the biggest headlines and impact on the podcast, and together we’ll pull back the curtain and dive in even further,” Cavallari further teased at the time. “This podcast has taught me the power of total honesty — it is liberating — and I cannot wait to experience more of this with all of you.”

Katie Thurston is paying a lot — and we mean a lot — for fertility treatments before she begins chemo later this year.
The Bachelorette star shared a breakdown of the cost of accessing fertility care via Instagram Story. “Just one of my daily shots broken down by cost,” she captioned a screenshot on Sunday, March 9. “As someone with breast cancer, a lot of my fertility treatments will be covered in the state of New York.”
The claim sheet Thurston shared showed the cost of the shot is $24,349.18 and she has a discount of $11,337.43. Her insurance will pay $11,267.43.
Earlier on Sunday Thurston revealed that she’d changed her mind about having children after meeting her fiancé Jeff Arcuri. “One day you think you don’t want kids,” she wrote in the first Story post. “Then one day you meet the man of your dreams and would do anything to make sure we can start a family in the future.”

Thurston also shared a video featuring syringes, medications and alcohol prep pads. The third featured an explanation of everything Thurston is going through ahead of the egg retrieval. “For those who aren’t familiar with fertility treatment here is a typical schedule: 3 pills a day to keep my estrogen down. A shot in my stomach in the AM. Two shots in my stomach in the PM.”
Thurston explained that she visits a clinic for a blood draw “every other day” as part of her fertility treatment. She is currently in her second week of the retrieval process. The reality star shared her breast cancer diagnosis in February.
Thurston and Arcuri got engaged in September 2024. A source confirmed to Us Weekly that Arcuri proposed at Secret Beach in Kauai, Hawaii, in August of the same year. The pair first connected in April and met in person in May.
Thurston confirmed during a May appearance on the “Your Mom & Dad” podcast that she was “happily snatched up.” She explained, “I’m seeing somebody. I haven’t actually said this yet. You heard it here first. [I’ve been] taken off the market.”

Colin Jost should feel “shame” for making less money than his wife, Scarlett Johansson — or so says “Lord Gaga,” the fictional SNL husband of Lady Gaga.
The character (played by SNL cast member Mikey Day) joined Jost on Saturday, March 8, for Weekend Update. After he assured a surprised Jost that there was in fact a Lord Gaga, Day added, “How do you think she became a lady? She married a lord. That’s how she became Gaga, whereas I was simply ‘Born This Way.’”
Day’s Lord Gaga then told Jost he is bemused by Lady Gaga’s career, especially since he sees music as a hobby. He added that he didn’t think Lady Gaga could possibly make more money than he does in textiles.
Lord Gaga then commented on the idea that a wife could ever make more money than her husband — something that is a reality for Jost.

Princess Kate Middleton honored late cancer patient Liz Hatton, whom the royal first met in October last year.
“Celebrating the strength and creativity of Liz and Vicky Hatton,” Kate, 43, wrote via X on Saturday, March 8, in honor of International Women’s Day. “It was an honour meeting them both in Windsor in October. Liz’s memory lives on in Vicky’s unwavering resilience. Thank you for such a moving moment #IWD2025.”
Both Kate and husband Prince William included Hatton, a photographer, on their list of “brilliant women who have inspired us over the last 12 months,” which was shared via X on Saturday.
Kate had previously met Hatton at Windsor Castle in October 2024 during an investiture ceremony hosted by William, 42. While there, Hatton snapped photos of the honorees and met with both William and Kate after the event.

Middleton was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer early in 2024, limiting all public engagements while she underwent a preventative round of chemo. She finished her treatment in September 2024.
“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate said in a video statement at the time. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”

On Sunday, March 9, Spelling shared a photo of a sleeping Beau in her Instagram Story, along with a caption that will send chills down the spine of any parent during flu and cold season.
“Sorry for the pause in social media lately,” the mom wrote. “Norovirus waits for no one.” In case fans didn’t fully grasp the gravity of the situation, Spelling also shared a vomiting emoji.

Hailey Bieber is seemingly done with all the social media chatter surrounding herself and husband Justin Bieber.
“Pastors and preachers really love to just put words together with the same letter and act like it’s HITTING, so crazy,” Hailey, 28, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, March 9. “‘There’s blessing in the brokenness,’ ‘There’s grace in the gratitude.’ S— drives me bananas.”
She added, “And then people sit there like this eating it up! Anyways…”
While Hailey did not clarify what she was referring to, several hours earlier her rep shut down recent accusations that she “liked” a shady TikTok comment about Selena Gomez and her fiancé, Benny Blanco. A social media creator recently claimed that Hailey had allegedly endorsed an online video poking fun at Gomez and Blanco’s loved-up Interview magazine profile. “This never happened,” Hailey’s rep exclusively told Us Weekly earlier on Sunday. “This entire story has been fabricated by a content creator looking to capitalize off of an old, tired narrative.”
Gomez, 32, and Justin, 31, previously dated on and off from 2009 to 2018. Months later, the “Peaches” singer moved on with Hailey. The pair, who wed later in 2018, frequently shut down claims that there was any relationship overlap.
“It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf because it was their relationship,” Hailey recalled on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in September 2022. “I honestly respect that very deeply, but I just know what was going on when we got back together. And I know what had to happen for that to come back together in a healthy way, and I think it was the most healthy, mature decision that he could have made and I respect that.”
The next year, Hailey and several of her pals were accused of posting social media footage that appeared to poke fun at Gomez’s own beauty tricks. Both she and the Only Murders in the Building actress subsequently denied any speculation of bad blood.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,” Gomez wrote via Instagram Story in March 2023. “This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
The Rhode founder revealed via her Instagram Story that same month that she and Gomez had been “discussing [over] the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative.”

“He is a really great dad to Jack, and is very protective over him,” a source told Us last month, with a second insider noting Justin did not have a “breakdown” but “ really doesn’t care what people think.”
Justin, who welcomed son Jack Blues with Hailey in August 2024, was later seen holding what appeared to be a joint in a February 27 social media video while singing along to Don Toliver’s “Attitude.”
Neither Justin nor Hailey further addressed the speculation.

Michael Jackson’s son Prince Jackson made a rare public appearance for the opening night of MJ: The Musical.
Prince, 27, stepped out for the Australian premiere of MJ: The Musical at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney on Saturday, March 8. Prince donned a navy blue pinstripe suit with a purple tie and wore his long hair tied back in a low ponytail.
Prince, who rarely makes public appearances, has previously been open about his father’s legacy. In a December 2024 interview with the Associated Press, he acknowledged coming from “a very rich family history,” noting that “those are some big shoes to fill.” He said, “I don’t know if I ever could. But I wear it with … it’s like a badge of honor.”
At the time, Prince added that he and his siblings — sister Paris Jackson, 26, and brother Bigi Jackson, 22 — each choose to honor their late father, who died in 2009 at age 50, in their own ways. (Michael welcomed Prince and Paris in 1997 and 1998, respectively, with ex-wife Debbie Rowe, whom he was married to from 1996 to 1999. They welcomed son Bibi via surrogate in 2002.)

“My siblings and I, we each kind of got a piece of him in different ways,” Prince explained at the time. “For me, it’s that philanthropic kind of giving back, and that’s where I’m really passionate about. I just hope the work that we do makes him proud.”
The trio have previously attended MJ: The Musical together, stepping out in a rare joint appearance last year for the musical’s premiere in London’s West End. Prince, Paris and Bigi walked the red carpet together in March 2024 outside of the Prince Edward Theatre.
While he was a student at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles in 2016, Prince cofounded the nonprofit Heal Los Angeles (inspired by Michael’s song “Heal the World”) which focuses on homelessness, hunger and children. Ahead of the holidays last year, Prince hosted an event at a Mattel toy store allowing kids to load up on toys to take home.
“It warms my heart when we see the kids smile at the end of the day,” he said. “So, it’s really fun.”

At the time, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the “King of Pop” would be proud of how his three children had turned out following his death. “Some people could let nepotism get to their heads, but they are the complete opposite of that,” the insider shared. Meanwhile, a separate source noted that Prince “loves riding motorcycles and his charity work.”
The second source also praised the close bond shared between the three siblings. “They are each other’s best friends and all stick together,” the insider said. “Michael would be so happy.”
