Pro golfer John Daly finished in last place at the Insperity Invitational in Texas last weekend, but in his mind, he’s a winner anyway. Daly, 59, has endured 16 surgeries in his life, including an emergency hand surgery in January.
“I’m like Lazarus, I keep coming back from the dead,” he told The Associated Press in a story published earlier this week. “Waking up is a win for me.”
Daly announced his emergency procedure in January, sharing a photo of himself in a hospital bed via his Instagram Story.
“Emergency hand surgery,” he wrote at the time. “Thankful [it] went great.”
Daly told the AP that putting remains one of his problems on the course as his recovery continues. Still, he’s determined to keep playing. Despite finishing 27-over last weekend, he’s already looking forward to his next event, the senior golf tour’s Regions Tradition May 14 to 18.
He chose that tournament over the PGA Championship, which is at the same time.
“I can go there and miss the cut and get $6,000,” Daly said of the PGA Championship. “But I’m playing Birmingham. I love Regions. They’re a great sponsor. But why are they scheduling Regions the same week as the PGA Championship, where I can see Brooks [Koepka] and all the guys?”
Daly has endured even more medical challenges over the years. He underwent surgery for bladder cancer in 2020, and while he has admitted the cancer could return, he said he was thankful that doctors caught the cancer early.
“I’m cutting way, way back on the Diet Coke and counting minutes before I can have a cigarette,” he said during a 2020 interview with the Golf Channel. “I’m trying to quit smoking. The doctors aren’t saying it’s too late.”
Daly once admitted to smoking 40 cigarettes per day and drinking 10 to 12 cans of Diet Coke — sometimes reaching 26 to 28 cans in a day. During his heyday as a golfer, Daly was known to both smoke and drink Diet Coke on the course.
“We will just see what happens,” he added. “Maybe there’s a miracle.”
Daly announced in February that his cancer is in remission.
One year before his diagnosis, Daly was vacationing in England, when he was bitten by a brown recluse spider. He then developed sepsis and required emergency surgery.
Daly has also opened up about his struggles with alcohol, undergoing multiple stints in rehab. In a 2024 appearance on golfer Bryson DeChambeau’s YouTube channel, he told DeChambeau that he was on his 20th drink of the day.
“Oh I started drinking at nine this morning,” he said. “Might be the 20th. I’ve slowed down. I’ve slowed down a little bit. This is an important day, I’m with my son and we are going to break 50.”
Jenn Tran is down for Dancing With the Stars partner Sasha Farber to keep it within Bachelor Nation for the next season of the ABC competition series.
“Joan Vassos should go on Dancing With Stars. I love that woman. She’s actually the sweetest and the greatest and I think she would enjoy it,” Jenn, 27, told Us Weekly during an exclusive interview at an event to celebrate her partnership with Clorox Scentiva, adding that the OG Golden Bachelorette, 62, would “absolutely” be in a good match for Sasha, 41.
Jenn met Sasha on season 33 of DWTS. While she finished in 7th place, she found a romantic connection with the pro dancer and considers the series a major highlight of life since she appeared as the season 21 Bachelorette.
When Us pointed out to Jenn that it’s been about a year since she returned from filming the dating show, Jenn described the last 365 days as “nothing that I could have ever imagined.”
“I think you go into [The Bachelorette] thinking, ‘This is gonna happen, that’s gonna happen.’ And nothing happened that I thought was actually gonna happen,” she said. “Instead, better things happened and I’ve been just so surprised. I constantly am and I’m just so grateful. The past year, I’ve really felt a lot of gratitude for what it has brought me.”

Jenn said her “highest high” occurred the first time she stepped onto the Dancing With the Stars ballroom.
“That very first rehearsal was when I was really like, ‘Holy s***. I’m on Dancing With the Stars.’ That show has been a lifetime goal of mine — a delusional goal, or so I thought.”
On the flip side, Jenn’s low point was her finale of The Bachelorette, where fans watched her relive her proposal with then-fiancé Devin Strader despite him already ending things once filming wrapped. “I think everybody saw my lowest of lows, and that’s OK.” she told Us. “I’m glad I got to share it with the world.”
Since wrapping DWTS, Jenn has returned to PA school while also taking on the opportunities that come post-reality TV.
“I live in Miami but I’m just never home. I don’t sleep and I’m just constantly thriving in chaos,” she said. “Things just pop up and I’m traveling here, I’m traveling there, I’m seeing patients here and there. I’m really just trying to take it one day at a time.”
Jenn made it clear that she was “very passionate about medicine” before and after landing her first gig on The Bachelor.
“I spent a lot of my life trying to get into PA school because it’s not an easy master’s program to get into. So it didn’t make sense for me to suddenly — just because I had a really fun year— to give it up and do other things because it is a very hard spot to get,” she explained. “My program was very nice to give me that year break, but I knew that I wanted to go back. I knew that healthcare was something that I wanted to pursue and still do and want to work in and just use my degree to help people. … There’s a lot of specialties that PAs can do and you can switch around. Once I graduate, it’ll be a little bit of trial and error.”
Overall, Jenn describes herself as in a “good” place after all the ups and downs.
“I mean, I feel like I’m running around with my head off because I’m just in five places at once, but I very much feel like I have purpose,” she said. “Being at school grounds me and I feel good about the decisions that I’ve been making.”
Jenn also finds time to work with brands that she believes in, including Clorox and she’s loving the latest scents from the Scentiva line.
“You gotta keep your home clean somehow — and I’ve been using Clorox for so many years. This new scented bleach line is amazing,” she said, referring to Clorox Scentiva bleach, which has a lavender base. “But my favorite are the wipes that you can use on the counter. I am very cautious or very aware of how people perceive me when they smell me and I think the same thing about your home, what people smell is how they perceive your home.”
Jenn mentioned Sasha when discussing her sensitivity to smells.
“He was teaching me a dance and I was like, ‘Why am I suddenly thinking about Sam from The Bachelor?’” she recalled, referring to her Bachelorette villain. “I was, like, sniffing him and I was like, ‘Oh my God, you’re wearing Sam’s cologne.’ I’m very sensitive to smells. They really do bring back memories. I feel like it transports you. And so I was like, ‘That is crazy. You’re never wearing that cologne.'”

‘The Ninth Gate’ (1999)
If you always suspected that antique book collectors are secretly devil-worshipping murderers, then boy, is The Ninth Gate the movie for you. This Roman Polanski oddity stars Johnny Depp as Dean Corso, a rare book dealer hired by a wealthy man, Boris Balkan (Frank Langella), to find a rare book that can summon the devil.
Dean doesn’t believe in all that mumbo jumbo, but he soon has doubts as everyone who knows about the book either mysteriously dies or wants him dead. Can Dean survive long enough to find the book and collect his paycheck? And even if he does, has his skepticism given way to a curiosity that may jeopardize his eternal soul?
The Ninth Gate is wonderfully enjoyable nonsense, a mystery about Satanism and the death of God that doesn’t take itself seriously at all. Depp hadn’t become a parody of himself yet, so his Dean is one of his characteristically cool antiheroes like Hunter S. Thompson and Edward Scissorhands, who are always fascinating to watch. The Ninth Gate is nice to look at (the cinematography is by Darius Khondji), and the film’s score by Wojciech Kilar evokes a dark, sinister European decadence that’s perfect for Polanski’s devil cult story.
When Michael and Karen Carr (Kurt Russell and Madeleine Stowe) are assaulted inside their Los Angeles home, they are saved by Officer Pete Davis (Ray Liotta), who offers to secure their residence to prevent any future break-ins. But Pete’s generosity quickly turns into an obsession as the LAPD cop falls in love with Karen and believes Michael is too weak to protect her. Now, Pete will stop at nothing — blackmail, bribery and even murder — to get what he wants, and what he wants is Michael dead.
Released right after the 1992 L.A. riots, Unlawful Entry is a still-relevant thriller that effectively exploits the audience’s distrust in authoritarian figures. (Especially from Los Angeles.) While Russell and Stowe are very good as the film’s helpless couple, the film belongs to Liotta, who makes Pete a memorable, unsettling villain. The late actor holds nothing back as a cop who has lost all sense of morality, and his unhinged performance rivals Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lecter as one of the most iconic boogeymen of the ’90s.
When Luis (Antonio Banderas) first meets his bride-to-be Julia (Angelina Jolie), he makes two observations: She’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, and she’s not to be trusted. But he marries her anyway, and they live a seemingly happy life in late 19th-century Cuba. But when an American detective, Walter (Thomas Jane), reveals that Julia has taken nearly all of his money and split, the two men team up to find out where she went and why she deceived Luis.
That’s just one part of the long, twisty plot of Original Sin, a bonkers remake of François Truffaut’s 1969 movie, Mississippi Mermaid. The rest of the story takes so many turns, it might make your head spin, but it’s never boring and often ridiculously watchable. More importantly, the film has two beautiful movie stars, Banderas and Jolie, at the center of its madness, and they are more than believable as a tempestuous couple who can’t help but love and destroy each other.
The University of North Carolina has addressed a report that Jordon Hudson, the girlfriend of head football coach Bill Belichick, was banned from their football facilities.
“While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities,” Carolina Athletics said in a statement to Us Weekly on Friday, May 9. “Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick’s personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the University.”
Earlier in the day, journalist Pablo Torre reported on his podcast “Pablo Torre Finds Out” that Hudson, 24, was “no longer allowed in the football building, she is not allowed on the football field.”
“I don’t think you’ll be hearing much from Jordon moving forward,” a source at the school reportedly told Torre.
After North Carolina’s dismissal of his reporting, Torre issued a staunch rebuttal.
“UNC can now choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson’s involvement however it wishes, following the publication of our episode,” Torre posted via X. “We requested comment and filed dozens of FOIA requests that were not satisfied. And we stand by the specific reporting in our episode, which came from the highest levels of the football program.”

Belichick, 73, was officially announced as the new head football coach at the university in December 2024. His $10 million annual salary makes him the highest-paid public employee in the entire state of North Carolina.
Hudson accompanied Belichick to his introductory press conference in December and later raised some eyebrows when she was seen wearing high-heeled boots on the field at a North Carolina football practice on April 12.
When journalist Tony Dokoupil attempted to ask Belichick how he and Hudson met, Hudson interjected from off-camera saying, “We’re not talking about this.”
Belichick and Hudson met on a plane in 2021 and started being spotted in public together in 2023. Hudson made their relationship official via an Instagram post in October 2024.
Despite the controversy surrounding Hudson’s behavior during the interview, Belichick defended her in a statement days later.
“I was surprised when unrelated topics were introduced, and I repeatedly expressed to the reporter, Tony Dokoupil, and the producers that I preferred to keep that conversation centered on the book,” Belichick said in a statement released by the University of North Carolina on April 30. “After this occurred several times, Jordon, with whom I share both a personal and professional relationship, stepped in to reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion.”
CBS responded to Belichick’s criticism, saying their interview with Belichick was not presented with any restrictions.
“There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation,” a CBS spokesperson said on April 30. “This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
Amid all of the conversation surrounding his relationship with Hudson, Belichick reportedly made a proactive move in an attempt to steer his public narrative in a more positive direction.
Belichick has been talking to former Chicago Bears vice president of communications Brandon Faber “in the hopes of boosting his book tour and/or the overall interests of the North Carolina football program,” according to a Sunday, May 4 report by NBC Sports.
“The potential assignment encompasses working directly for North Carolina and/or assisting Belichick with non-UNC matters,” the outlet reported.
