Bruce Springsteen Announces Release of 7 ‘Lost Albums’ in June

3 April 2025 at 12:03

Bruce Springsteen announced the June 27 release of seven “lost albums” as part of a new boxed set called Tracks II.

“During the pandemic, what I did during that time is I finished everything I had in my vault,” Springsteen, 75, said in a teaser released on Thursday, April 3. “This is Tracks II. The ‘Lost Albums’ are records that were [full albums], even to the point that they were going to be mixed, and not released.”

Springsteen organized 83 songs in total into a sequel to his 1998 boxed set, Tracks, which gathered rare and unheard material from the earliest days of the E Street Band up through the 1990s. Tracks II features even more unreleased songs recorded between 1983 and 2018.

“For one reason or another, something I felt was missing from some of [the ‘Lost Albums’], or they just didn’t feel complete at the time,” he explained. “Over a period of time, I built a small collection of full albums that for one reason or another, never got put out.”

A Look Back at Bruce Springsteen’s Career Over Six Decades

The first disc, titled LA Garage Sessions ’83, selects 18 songs that were initially developed as part of the Born in the U.S.A. recording sessions. Springsteen originally had a much different conception for Born in the U.S.A., with early tracks sounding much more akin to 1982’s sparse Nebraska than the synthesizer pop sound that eventually made it onto the 1984 record.

Other collections featured in Tracks II include Faithless, gathering selections from an abandoned film project. Somewhere North of Nashville features a country music sound, while Inyo draws on Latin influences. Springsteen experimented with pop orchestration on Twilight Hours, whereas Perfect World is the only disc that wasn’t initially conceived as a single album.

Streets of Philadelphia Sessions comes from Springsteen’s recordings in the mid-1990s, after he’d dismissed the E Street Band and released two solo albums, Lucky Town and Human Touch, on the same day in March 1992. Fans have long suspected that Springsteen planned to infuse contemporary hip-hop into his music around this time, though the material was never officially released until now.

“I read about myself in the ’90s as having some ‘lost period’ or something. Not really. Really, I was working the whole time,” Springsteen said in a teaser for Tracks II.

Springsteen will present his seven ‘Lost Albums’ alongside a 100-page clothbound, hardcover book filled with rare and never-before-seen photographs from the past 40 years. Fans can either opt for the full nine-disc Tracks II set or go for a condensed 20-track companion album titled Lost and Found: Selections From the Lost Albums.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and his E Street Band are scheduled to be back on the road this summer for a 16-date European tour that will see them performing in the U.K., France, Germany and beyond.

Springsteen’s wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa, was missing on most of his North American tour dates in 2024 due to her diagnosis with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in 2018. At the October 2024 premiere of his documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the singer-songwriter said Scialfa’s diagnosis taught him a lesson in mortality.

Bruce Springsteen Gushes Over Wife Patti Scialfa After Her Cancer Diagnosis

“Hey, you get up around our age, and those are the things you’re thinking about,” he admitted. “Patti and I have had to deal with her illness, and you’re worried about … it is a part of your life now, questions of mortality, and it just becomes a part of your life.”

Springsteen was also recently spotted spending time with Jeremy Allen White, as the Bear star will be playing the rocker in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. The Pale Blue Eye director Scott Cooper’s biographical music drama chronicles Springsteen’s efforts in trying to redefine himself with the recording of 1982’s gritty album Nebraska.

Look 10 Years Younger By Switching to This Skincare Routine

3 April 2025 at 11:31

Shopping for clothes can come with its challenges, but shopping for skincare? That’s another beast entirely. In a market laden with “miracle” products and lofty claims, the process of searching for the right ones can be overwhelming, time-consuming and draining, whether you’re browsing online or at your local Sephora. But if you’re serious about finding tried-and-true, research-backed, crowd-loved solutions, take it from Us: Rodan + Fields is the way to go.

The brand’s fail-proof Redefine Regimen is an all-in-one anti-aging system with thousands (and thousands!) of five-star reviews. We’re not exaggerating when we say this set does it all. It includes a cleanser, toner, sunscreen and overnight mask, each of which can be semi-customized, depending on your needs. The cleanser comes in two forms, clay and foam, and both exfoliate, detoxify and purify the skin without stripping it of hydration. The foaming cleanser is particularly helpful for removing dirt, oil, sunscreen and makeup.

Toner is also key for achieving an ageless glow and this skin-softening toner is a bestseller by itself. In addition to minimizing pores, the formula contains fruit acids that even out skin tone, promote cell turnover and smooth skin texture. After eight weeks of consistent use, 94% of users noticed a softer, more supple complexion, while over 90% noticed improved firmness. If you want skin that’s plump and sculpted from every angle, this product is a must-have.

Sunscreen is another key player when it comes to anti-aging skincare, but we’re not talking about the spray you find at Walgreens. The Redefine system comes with either a Defense Lotion or a Defense Cream, both of which visibly firm the skin while providing SPF-30 protection. These formulas are nourishing and non-comedogenic, making them suitable for all skin types. The only major difference is the weight. The lotion is a lightweight formula while the cream is medium weight, so anyone with dry skin should opt for the cream.

End your skincare routine with the Overnight Restorative Cream — or Restorative Lotion, depending on your skin type — that’s as nourishing as it sounds. Bakuchiol, glycolic acid, niacinamide and peptides are just a few superstars in the lineup. You’ll wake up with a dewy, lifted appearance, reduced lines and a refined texture, ideal for mature skin.

Reviewers adore the system, with one writing, “I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my appearance. I look younger than some of my friends who are 10 years younger than me!” Others echo the sentiment, calling it “refreshing,” “nourishing” and “better than anything on the market.”

New customers get 25% off their first order with code USWEEKLY25, but only from April 5 to April 15. Now is the time to snag your go-to routine. With this new setup, you’re guaranteed to look as young as you feel!

Tom Cruise Breaks Silence on ‘Top Gun’ Costar Val Kilmer’s Death

3 April 2025 at 11:28

Tom Cruise paid tribute to Val Kilmer after his Top Gun costar’s death at age 65.

“I’d like to honor a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer, for a moment,” Cruise, 62, began during an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 3. “I can’t tell you how much I admired his work.”

The actor asked the audience to join him in a moment of silence: “If we just all take a moment to remember the wonderful time we had with him — let’s just take a moment.” He concluded, “I wish you well on your next journey.”

Kilmer died of pneumonia on Tuesday, April 1, his daughter, Mercedes, confirmed to The New York Times. He had previously been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but later recovered, according to Mercedes.

After the news broke of Kilmer’s death, tributes poured in from his former costars. Cruise and Kilmer famously portrayed rival fighter pilots Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the 1986 blockbuster film Top Gun. Thirty-six years later, Kilmer made a cameo in the 2022 sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, reprising his role alongside Cruise in his final onscreen performance.

In February 2023, Cruise reflected on his meaningful reunion with Kilmer.

“I just want to say that was pretty emotional,” Cruise recalled during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live at the time. “I’ve known Val for decades, and for him to come back and play that character … he’s such a powerful actor that he instantly became that character again.”

Cruise added that while filming the scene where Maverick sought advice from his former rival turned wingman, he felt like “you’re just looking at Iceman.”

“I was crying, I was crying. I got emotional,” he said. “He’s such a brilliant actor, I love his work.”

Kilmer, for his part, told People in 2022 that reprising the role of Iceman was “like being reunited with a long lost friend.”

'Top Gun' Cast: Where Are They Now?

“The characters never really go away,” he added. “They live on in deep freeze. If you’ll pardon the pun.”

In his 2020 memoir, I’m Your Huckleberry, Kilmer revealed that he tried to pass on Top Gun, which became one of the defining projects of his career.

“I didn’t want the part. I didn’t care about the film. The story didn’t interest me,” he wrote. “My agent, who also represented Tom Cruise, basically tortured me into at least meeting [director] Tony Scott.”

The ‘Top Gun’ Franchise Cast’s Honest Quotes About Working With Val Kilmer

While Kilmer agreed to audition, he “showed up looking the fool” and “read the lines indifferently.” However, he still got the part and ultimately ended up loving his experience.

“My main joy was the camaraderie of the cast, [producers] Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, along with the incredible, unflappable enthusiasm of Tony Scott and Tom Cruise,” Kilmer told People.

Of his offscreen dynamic with Cruise, Kilmer said, “I am happy to announce we have home movies to prove how much fun we had!”

A Guide to TV Shows and Movies Based on Hit Video Games

3 April 2025 at 11:25

The Last of Us, Five Nights at Freddy’s and Super Mario Bros. are just some of the hit video games that have been adapted into TV shows and movies over the years.

HBO adapted The Last of Us from the video game of the same name in January 2023 with Pedro Pascal playing Joel and Bella Ramsey bringing Ellie to life. The series follows the duo on a journey across the country, 20 years after a zombie-like fungus wiped out much of civilization. Ellie, however, is somehow immune to the disease and is the key to creating a potential cure.

The Last of Us became an instant success and received a season 2 renewal the same month it premiered. The series will continue to take inspiration from the original video game and its 2020 sequel, which is still centered around Joel and Ellie but includes a time jump.

Meanwhile, Five Nights at Freddy’s consists of nine video games, which take place in locations connected to a fictional family pizza restaurant franchise titled Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The story lines were condensed for the 2023 film featuring four animatronic mascots as the main villains.

“We really wanted this to be inclusive to a younger audience and there are so many younger fans with this franchise, but also certainly hope to have nailed some of the jump scares like playing the game. The atmosphere and the creepiness … [were] one of the things that sat in my bones the most,” director Emma Tammi told SlashFilm in October 2023. “Of course, there are the jump scares, iconic jump scares and those are incredibly scary, but most of the time, you’re feeling the creepy atmosphere.”

Scroll on for more video games which have been adapted:

The 2023 movie follows a security guard at an abandoned family entertainment center who discovers four animatronic mascots that move and kill anyone still there after midnight. Five Nights at Freddy’s, which stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson and Matthew Lillard, is based on a video game franchise originally released in 2023.
A first look at the film’s December 2025 sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, was released in April 2025 and featured the return of Hutcherson, Lail and Rubio’s characters.

HBO's TV series is set 20 years into a pandemic which spreads a disease causing people to transform into zombie-like creatures. The video game was released in 2013, one decade before the TV adaptation began, and has since been expanded with a remake and a sequel.
Pascal and Ramsey are among several cast members set to return in season 2, which will follow the events of The Last of Us Part II video game. New cast members include Catherine O’Hara, Young Mazino, Isabela Merced and Kaitlyn Dever, the latter of whom plays the divisive character Abby.

Based on the video game series of the same name, Fallout takes place hundreds of years after a nuclear disaster forced people to live in fallout bunkers, known as Vaults. A young woman named Lucy (Ella Purnell) ventures outside of the Vaults in search of her missing father, encountering dangerous creatures and characters along the way.
The series also stars Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Moisés Arias and Xelia Mendes-Jones. Fallout was renewed for a second season days after its April 2024 premiere on Prime Video.

Tom Holland took on the role of adventurer Nathan Drake in the 2022 adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise. The film saw the character team up with Mark Wahlberg’s Victor “Sully” Sullivan to find a large treasure before it falls in the hands of the villainous Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas).
Plans for a sequel were announced in June 2024, though details about the movie’s release date and plot have not been revealed.

James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz starred in the 2020 film — and its 2022 sequel — which follows a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds. Idris Elba’s Sonic character, Knuckles, got the spin-off miniseries treatment in April 2024, while the franchise’s third film installment hit theaters that December.
The video game series was originally released in 1991 and has since become a cultural phenomenon.

Ryan Reynolds voiced Pikachu in 2019's Detective Pikachu, which follows the Pokémon character as he helps a boy solve the disappearance of his father. Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse and Rita Ora appeared in the film, which also featured other memorable Pokémon characters.
The video game, meanwhile, is based on the Pokémon franchise, which has been around since 1996.

In 2001, Max Payne was released as a video game about a New York City police detective turned vigilante after his family was murdered by drug addicts. Mark Wahlberg took on the titular role in the 2008 film adaptation.

Tomb Raider has been around since the '90s, but it wasn't until 2001 that the film starring Angelina Jolie hit theaters. She reprised the role of the archaeologist two years later in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. For the third installment, 2018’s Tomb Raider, Alicia Vikander was brought on to play Lara Croft.

In 1996, video game developer Capco debuted with Resident Evil. The video game's success led to a film adaptation starring Milla Jovovich in 2002, which turned into five more sequels.
The Resident Evil universe has since been expanded with a 2021 Netflix series. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was another take on the source material released later that year.

The martial arts video game was released in the '90s and subsequently became a film starring Linden Ashby, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Robin Shou, Bridgette Wilson, Talisa Soto and Christopher Lambert. Fans were later surprised with two more films — 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and 2021’s Mortal Kombat — while Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters in October 2025.

The iconic video game rose to fame in the '80s and has since been adapted in various forms. In 1993, a live-action film was released with Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi.
An animated version appeared in theaters 30 years later, with Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy and Charlie Day. A sequel to the animated film is expected to premiere in April 2026.

The video game follows a fictional struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who enforce order and control. After being released in 2007, the franchise grew to include 13 more games. A film starring Michael Fassbender came out in 2016. While a sequel was planned, it has since been canceled.

How Dating Travis Kelce Changed Kayla Nicole’s Outlook on Romance

3 April 2025 at 11:14

Kayla Nicole’s experience dating Travis Kelce has altered the way she moves in relationships.

“I am like John Cena now with men,” Nicole, 33, shared on the Thursday, April 3, episode of Dear Media’s “The Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole” podcast. “You don’t see me. You don’t see me with a man, and you will never see me with a man until I’m married with kids. Scout’s honor.”

While the Special Forces alum acknowledged that some men may take it as her “being sneaky,” she sees the game plan in a whole different way.

“I’m protecting me and I’m protecting you,” she shared. “I don’t think I ever want to publicly date another man until I am absolutely sure that they are my long-term person just because I want to protect the things that mean the most to me.”

Everything Kayla Nicole Said About Travis and Taylor on ‘Special Forces’

Although Nicole didn’t say Kelce’s name in the podcast episode, the exes dated on and off for five years before calling it quits in 2022. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, has since moved on with Taylor Swift.

When Nicole compared herself to Cena, 47, some fans may have recalled the actor and WWE champion’s highly publicized breakup with Nikki Garcia in July 2018 after six years together.

In October 2020, he then surprised followers when he married Shay Shariatzadeh at an attorney’s office in Tampa, Florida. They later hosted a second wedding celebration in Canada in July 2022.

“Sometimes, when you’re a little too open [or] you’re a little too transparent, you open yourself up to a world of opinion, a world of entitlement,” Nicole explained. “People want answers, people think that you owe them an explanation about every single thing in your relationship, every up and down and happy or sad moment. I just want to be able to love without the pressure.”

So far, her game plan appears to be a winning strategy.

While she’s not ready to share if she’s dating someone special, Nicole joked that she’s “out here hiding, dating and hiding.”

Travis Kelce’s Ex-Girlfriend Kayla Nicole Praises His Athleticism

“I’m the queen of a private room and a back room and a corner closet, and I have no shame in it,” she said. “And honestly, to each his own. But for me, I feel like it’s working right now. And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

During a listener Q&A, Nicole was also asked if she regretted going to the Super Bowl in February — where Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. The quick answer was absolutely not.

“I didn’t think twice about it,” she said. “The biggest day in sports? The biggest game of all the games? … I want to go to every game.”

Nursing Influencer Saw Newborn 'For a Split Second' Before Death at 33

3 April 2025 at 11:12

Late nursing influencer Hailey Okula briefly met her newborn son in the fleeting moments before her sudden death, according to her husband, Matthew Okula.

“She was able to see him for a split second, and I’m always going to remember that,” Matthew told Fox 11 Los Angeles in an interview published on Wednesday, April 1. “It just came upon me so quickly and unexpectedly.”

Hailey, who was 33, gave birth to son Crew on Saturday, March 29. Within moments, she faced a medical complication post-delivery.

“We both looked at him and [it was] just Hailey’s personality. She said a little something because she saw how big he was. We had a quick little laugh there, she had a little tear on her face,” Matthew recalled. “Me and Crew walked out of the room and they said they were finishing up, she’ll be there in a moment. Literally a minute later, the doctor came in and let me know they’re doing CPR on her. I’m making the decision, ‘Am I going to the ICU with my wife or am I staying with my newborn baby?’ Not the decision we thought I’d be making.”

Late Nursing Influencer Hailey Okula's Quotes About Fertility Journey

According to Matthew, Hailey suffered cardiac arrest on the operating table.

“The doctors say it was from a very, very rare complication known as amniotic fluid embolism,” Matthew, a firefighter in L.A., added to the outlet. “There’s no treatment, there’s no way of diagnosing it. It’s so sad to think of other people having to go through what I’m going through right now.”

Former collegiate gymnast Hailey and EMT Matthew met in college before eventually getting married. After struggling with infertility for two years, they completed a successful cycle of IVF in April 2024. Hailey announced via Instagram the following September that she was pregnant.

Celebrity Deaths of 2025: Stars We've Lost

“She wanted to be a mom, so incredibly bad. She never put it on me, and the reality is it’s my fertility issues,” Matthew said on Wednesday. “We found out [at the time and] she grabbed me and said, ‘We’re a team. We’re getting through this together.’”

According to Matthew, he will always remember Hailey as he now raises Crew as a single parent.

“I know she would be up there telling me that ‘You got it, raise this kid, don’t baby him too much, make sure you do everything we talked about doing,’” he tearfully concluded. “She gave her life in the most noble way.”

Jeff Probst ‘Lost’ It When Sai and Charity Raced for ‘Survivor’ Advantage

3 April 2025 at 11:12

Even Jeff Probst couldn’t believe how Sai Hughley swooped in to grab the challenge advantage over Charity Nelms.

“When I saw this in the first cut of the episode, I lost my mind,” the Survivor host, 63, said on the Wednesday, April 2, episode of his “On Fire” podcast. “Because here’s what I saw. The guy who shot that, Louis Powell, one of our South Africans, has been with the show for a very long time. Met his wife on the show, Maria Karakashian, and they got married. They’re an amazing couple. Just another example of family on Survivor.”

Probst continued: “I couldn’t believe his camera work. Because what he did, if you go back and watch that, is he framed that shot so that we only saw Charity as she was running toward it. And then he pans over just as Sai comes into frame.”

On the Wednesday episode of the competition series, the three starting tribes united on one beach as they entered the next phase of the game: the merge. As players vied to earn their spot in the merge with the upcoming challenge, an advantage was hidden on the island.

Survivor’s Jeff Probst on How the Game Has Evolved Over 45 Seasons

Viewers saw Nelms, 34, approaching the object in the jungle only to be bested by Hughley, 30, who seemingly came out of nowhere.

“It was like a horror movie!” Probst quipped. “It was unreal. I was squirming in my chair as they [raced] to the advantage.”

Probst couldn’t help but continue to gush over how proud he was of the cameraman for using the opportunity to tell a story with such a “tiny little moment.”

Jeff Probst Lost His Mind Over Sai and Charitys Race for an Advantage
Robert Voets/CBS(2)

“We talk about what separates Survivor all the time,” he explained. “It’s the instinct of a storyteller behind the lens — like Louis was in that moment that he could see with his left eye, ‘Oh, here comes Sai, I’m going to wait, wait, wait… BOOM! Let her enter the frame.’ And now the audience goes, ‘Oh my God, where did Sai come from?'”

Probst added the moment was “unbelievable” and encouraged fans to try to watch it “frame by frame” to get the full experience.

“I’m telling you, when you see it, it looks like Sai appears out of nowhere. It is really freaky,” he said. “That’s because of great camera work. He just framed it beautifully.”

In addition to giving his production team props, Probst applauded Hughley for her strategic prowess.

“Sai is everywhere. Sai is such a great player,” he shared. “She always kind of knows where to be and how to get at you. And then look at this, she snakes the advantage from Charity.”

Biggest ‘Survivor’ Onscreen Controversies Through the Years

The advantage automatically gave Hughley a plate at the merge feast plus a chance to win individual immunity. During the challenge, the players were divided into two teams and members of the winning team would be the only ones eligible for the safety competition.

While the move was great for Hughley’s game, Nelms ultimately lost out. She was on the losing team with no chance at immunity. And then, at tribal council, the vote ended up between Hughley and Nelms. The tribe sent Nelms home.

Survivor airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and is available to stream on Paramount+ the next day.

According to an official synopsis, Veronica is one of the three college “vixens” who are hoping to win over Max (Joshua Jackson). The other “vixens” include Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe’s daughter, Paris Jackson, and Bill Lawrence and Christa Miller’s daughter, Charlotte Lawrence.

Ahead of Ava’s acting debut, Witherspoon, 49, previously shared that she didn’t think her daughter would follow in her career footsteps while addressing the idea of her life being made into a movie.

Ava and Deacon Phillippe Are Sibling Goals at Madewell Party

“I don’t think all the chapters of my life have been told yet, so I don’t think I’m ready for a biopic,” Witherspoon revealed during a 2021 interview with Fox 5 New York, before weighing in on whether she would want Ava to play her. “She’s not an actress. She’s so happy with her life and I am just so enormously proud of her and the incredible, compassionate young woman she’s become.”

Witherspoon continued, “It’s very cool having adult children. You just can’t believe that they’re grown up. I could cry talking about her, I love her so much.”

Witherspoon and Ryan also share son Deacon Phillippe, who made his foray into acting on season 3 of Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever. (Witherspoon is also mom to son Tennessee, whom she welcomed in 2012 with ex-husband Jim Toth.)

Kaling, for her part, has gushed over collaborating with Deacon, 21. “We were breaking the season and there was this role that seemed like it would be perfect for Deacon,” Kaling, 45, explained to Variety in August 2022. “He’s obviously so talented and he’s great-looking, and we just thought he would be great and he was excited to come and do it. He’s just such a well-raised kid. He’s so talented, he’s so funny and fit in perfectly with the cast. The cast and the crew loved him and it was special to have him.”

She continued, He’s such a humble kid and he just wants to learn. And he’s been raised by two very successful actors. He’s not wary or anything. He just came in with this open mind and was excited.”

Cher and Val Kilmer Stayed Friends After 2-Year Relationship: Romance Rewind

3 April 2025 at 10:58

Cher formed a friendship with actor Val Kilmer before they took things to the next level in the 1980s. While the two A-listers weren’t endgame, there wasn’t any drama between them that led to a breakup. In fact, Cher and Kilmer stayed friends after going their separate ways — and she was one of the stars to pay tribute to him when he died in 2025.

Keep scrolling to look back at their love:

How It Began

Things between Cher and Kilmer started as all good relationships do, with a friendship. One of Cher’s friends invited Kilmer to the singer’s birthday party back in the day, which is where they first crossed paths.

“She said, ‘I invited this guy and I think either you or my friend who’s an editor will like him,’” Cher told People in 2021. She and Kilmer quickly formed a bond.

Cher Reveals the 1 Celebrity Who Dumped Her: 'I Was Madly in Love'

“We became friends because we laughed at the same things constantly,” she recalled. “He would sleep over and it was just a friendship [at first]. That took a long time. Well, I guess not really a long time.”

How Long It Lasted

Cher and Kilmer were together for two years, from 1982 to 1984, before he broke things off.

“Look, I was madly in love with Val Kilmer, and he left,” she recalled on The Howard Stern Show in November 2024. “Because sometimes you’re only meant to stay with someone for so long.”

How It Ended

Other than Kilmer calling it off, there aren’t a lot of details about why they split.

“Our sense of humor, and what we would put up with from one another, was more than I think I’ve ever had with any other guy,” Cher told People. “He would just go off and do his own thing and you just had to be prepared. And he was so beautiful. It went from madly in love and laughing hysterically to respecting each other’s ability.”

She remembered him as “creative” and “brave” as well.

“He can be a brat too but you forgive him. You forgive him [for] everything,” she added. “Even when I was angry, it was still a joy. If he called, it wouldn’t matter where I was, I would go.”

What They Said About Each Other

Kilmer remembered Cher as “the funniest person you’ll ever meet,” in his 2020 memoir, I’m Your Huckleberry.

Cher's Star-Studded Dating History Through the Years

“Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves,” he wrote. “Cher trafficked an intoxicating glamour and I, a Valley boy, fell under her spell.”

Kilmer added, “We had a wild ride, and though we’d eventually veer off in different directions, our spirits stayed united.”

What They Say Now

Cher remembered Kilmer following his death at age 65 in April 2025. (Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but was declared cancer-free in 2016. He died of pneumonia.)

Tom Hanks’ Daughter E.A. Reflects on Troubled Childhood in New Book

3 April 2025 at 10:54

E.A. Hanks, Tom Hanks’ only daughter, hit the open road to learn more about her mother, Susan Dillingham. Now, she’s ready to talk about it.

Her new book, The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road, details what she learned — the good and bad — about Dillingham, who died from lung cancer in 2002 at age 49.

E.A. (short for Elizabeth Anne), 43, and her older brother Colin, now 47, lived with Dillingham when she and Tom divorced in 1985 after five years of marriage. Though Dillingham was never diagnosed, E.A. believes she suffered from bipolar disorder, leading to episodes of paranoia and delusion. In one instance, she moved her two kids from Los Angeles to Sacramento without notice.

“My dad came to pick us up from school and we’re not there,” E.A. recalled in an excerpt from her book, obtained by People. “And it turns out we haven’t been there for two weeks and he has to track us down.”

At first, E.A. and Colin lived with Dillingham and saw Tom and his wife, Rita Wilson, on weekends and over the summer. (Tom and Wilson also share sons Chet, 34, and Truman, 29.)

But as their mom’s condition worsened, that soon changed.

“As the years went on, the backyard became so full of dog s*** that you couldn’t walk around it, the house stank of smoke,” she wrote. “The fridge was bare or full of expired food more often than not, and my mother spent more and more time in her big four-poster bed, poring over the Bible.”

Eventually, Dillingham became violent, according to E.A., and the custody agreement was changed.

“One night, her emotional violence became physical violence, and in the aftermath I moved to Los Angeles, right smack in the middle of the seventh grade,” she continued. “My custody arrangement basically switched — now I lived in L.A. and visited Sacramento on the weekends and in the summer.”

From ‘Forrest Gump’ to ‘Elvis’! Tom Hanks Through the Years

“My senior year of high school, she called to say she was dying,” E.A. wrote.

More than 20 years after her mother’s death, E.A. traveled from Los Angeles to Palatka, Florida, along Interstate 10 (hence the book title), hoping to learn more about Dillingham.

“Reckoning with the past, the present, her memories, and herself, Hanks brings us along a beautiful voyage towards understanding how the stories we tell about the places we’re from ultimately become the stories we tell about the people we are,” reads the book’s synopsis.

The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road releases on Tuesday, April 8.
