Aubrey Plaza received support at the 2025 Golden Globes after her husband Jeff Baena‘s shocking death.

The Brutalist director Brady Corbet mentioned Plaza, 40, and Baena at the end of his acceptance speech on Sunday, January 5, after winning the award for Best Director. “My heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family,” he said.

Plaza did not appear at the awards show before the speech, which came two days after Baena died by suicide at age 47. The actress was scheduled to be a presenter before Us Weekly confirmed Baena’s passing at his Los Angeles residence on Friday, January 3.

Baena was an indie filmmaker known for projects such as I Heart Huckabees, Life After Beth, The Little Hours, Horse Girl and Spin Me Round. He often collaborated with Plaza, whom he began dating in 2011 and married nearly a decade later.

“My first movie was a big learning experience on all fronts, and so working with her was a benefit because we have a shorthand and a close relationship,” Baena said of Plaza in an August 2022 interview with Newsweek. “As I’ve made more and more stuff, I’ve come to appreciate everything that she brings.”

Baena praised his wife’s commitment to her work, adding, “She’s insanely talented and so smart and obviously really good at producing. And she’s writing. There are very few people who can wear as many hats as her, as elegantly as she does.”

The screenwriter noted that Plaza is “amazing” at “everything she does.”

“Generally people point her out in whatever project she’s in as being the best part,” he continued at the time. “She’s, like, insanely talented and I’m very lucky to have her in my life.”

While Plaza has remained largely tight-lipped about her marriage, she previously shared details about her and Baena’s nuptials.

“A lot of things happened during COVID for me. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” she shared during a December 2021 appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show. “We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up.”

Plaza added: “I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature. Then the man from Alhambra showed up in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase [to perform the ceremony]. … I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”

You don’t turn your back on family — unless you’re Vin Diesel or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who have been nursing grudges against each other off and on since at least 2016.

The two action stars made their first onscreen appearance together in 2011’s Fast Five, in which the former wrestler joined the already long-running franchise as Luke Hobbs, an agent pursuing the Fast and Furious crew for their various crimes against … every law enforcement agency in the world.

Everything seemed copacetic over the years as Johnson returned for the sixth and seventh entries in the saga, but in August 2016, Johnson set the fandom ablaze with a since-deleted Instagram post in which he referred to unnamed members of the cast as “candy asses.”

Rumors immediately swirled that he was insulting Diesel, who had been part of the Fast franchise since the first movie premiered in 2001. A few days later, after filming for The Fate of the Furious wrapped, Johnson posted another Instagram thanking some of his castmates by name — Scott Eastwood and Nathalie Emmanuel, for example — but pointedly did not mention Diesel.

"Some [male costars] conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't," Johnson wrote via Instagram in August 2016, kicking off the public feud between the two stars. "The ones that don't are too chicken s—t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you're right."
In a follow-up post, the Baywatch star said that conflict could be beneficial, but again didn't name names. “Family is gonna have differences of opinion and fundamental core beliefs,” he wrote. “To me, conflict can be a good thing, when it’s followed by great resolution. I was raised on healthy conflict and welcome it. And like any family, we get better from it.”

After filming for The Fate of the Furious wrapped in August 2016, Diesel posted a video about how happy he was to be home with his family after making two movies back-to-back. He also included a seeming nod to his drama with Johnson, saying, "Honestly, give me a second and I will tell you everything. Everything."

In a November 2016 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Johnson implied that the feud was at least partly free publicity for The Fate of the Furious. “I’ve been in the game a long time,” he said of the conflict. “Would Universal have preferred that didn’t happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest shot through the roof to a whole other level.”

Ahead of the Fate release, Diesel told USA Today that the costars were actually friends and the whole situation had been overblown by fans and critics. "I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way," he explained. "I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don't think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne."
He also described himself as the punching bag for the franchise and claimed he was taking hits for the good of all the cast and crew. "I protect the franchise," he added. "I protect everybody including Dwayne. I protected Dwayne more than he’ll ever know. And it doesn’t matter. He doesn’t have to know. But he appreciates it. He knows it. Dwayne has only got one Vin in his life. Dwayne Johnson only has one big brother in this film world and that’s me."

Both stars attended the Fate of the Furious premiere in April 2017. “We still love each other, that's my boy," Diesel told Entertainment Tonight. "When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, ‘Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it's the best movie in history.’ And he delivered." Johnson, for his part, said their feud was the result of "differing philosophies."

After Gibson accused Johnson of being the reason production on F9 was delayed, Diesel defended his costar via Instagram. "Brotherhood ... and all its complexities," he wrote in October 2017, alongside a photo of himself with Johnson in character. "I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the Fast 9 release date was pushed ... but it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault. As we plot the course to expand the Fast & Furious universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here. The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fans' perspective has been instrumental in procuring success. However, like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance."

As viewers of Fate of the Furious quickly noticed, the two actors did not appear together in any scenes. Asked about this fact for a 2018 Rolling Stone interview, Johnson replied, "That is correct. We were not in any scenes together."

Johnson seemingly let go of any remaining grudges after the success of Hobbs & Shaw. In an Instagram video shared in September 2019, he specifically thanked Diesel for his support of the spinoff. "Lastly, but not least, want to thank brother Vin for your support of Hobbs & Shaw," he said. "I'll be seeing you soon, Toretto."

The Bloodshot star reignited conversation about the feud in June 2021, telling Men's Health that creating the Hobbs character required "tough love" on his part. "My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be,” he explained. “As a producer to say, ‘OK, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know’ — Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks.”
He added that any of his potential critiques were in service of his role as a producer on the franchise. "That took a lot of work," he told the magazine. "We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Fellini-esque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

Johnson revealed in July 2021 that he would not be returning to the franchise after he did not appear in 2021’s F9. “I’ve wished them well,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast & Furious movies they do that will be without me.”
The Moana star also commented on Diesel’s “tough love” remarks, telling the outlet, “I laughed and I laughed hard.”

In October 2021, Johnson told Vanity Fair that it wasn't his "best day" when he shared the original Instagram post that started it all. "I shouldn’t have shared that," he added. "Because at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don’t share things like that. And I take care of that kind of bulls—t away from the public. They don’t need to know that. That’s why I say it wasn’t my best day.”
Though he regretted the initial post, the Jungle Cruise star said he wouldn't take back his message if given the chance. "I mean what I say when I say it," he shared. "But to express it publicly was not the right thing to do.” He also claimed that unnamed members of the Fate of the Furious crew "quietly thanked" him for speaking out about Diesel's behavior.

“The jokes never end,” Johnson said during a November 2021 appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show when asked about the jab at Diesel in his film Red Notice. “People were asking me about that, and they find a way. These Vin Diesel jokes — which play great, by the way, to the audience, which is always a good thing because it’s all about them — people think these jokes come from me and they actually don’t.”  
The former wrestler added: “You’d be surprised with how many people come to me with, ‘I’ve got a great one. I’ve got another great Vin Diesel joke.’ I’m sure you do. [They’re] always funny.”

After Diesel made a public plea in November 2021 for Johnson to reprise his role despite their differences, the Moana actor shut it down as a form of "manipulation."
"I didn't like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker's death. Leave them out of it," Johnson told CNN one month later. "We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise with gratitude and grace."
Johnson pointed out that he felt "surprised" by Diesel's approach since he has previously made his decision not to return to the franchise very clear.
"This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly — and privately — that I would not be returning to the franchise," he noted. "I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return."

Johnson surprised fans in May 2023 with a post-credits cameo in Fast X, hinting that his character, Hobbs, will be back for the franchise's final installments. "The peace treaty … I kind of [brokered it]. We all did. Ultimately, the movie did,” director Louis Leterrier told The Hollywood Reporter after the film's release. “We sort of looked at each other from across the room and winked a few months back, saying, ‘We should work together.’ And then I had this idea and I presented it to the producers and the studio. And then we reached out to Dwayne and his team, and said, ‘Just come and watch the movie. You have to love the movie first.’ So, he came to see the movie and really loved it, and then we started talking. It was very smooth." 
Diesel, for his part, said that he and his costars "lead with love" when asked about Johnson's return. "We have such a great cast," he told Entertainment Tonight after the Fast X premiere. "We try to create an environment where people can do their best work. That's all actors really want, is to feel as though they're supported to create unique characters. Characters that last forever, and you see that in this franchise."

The Jumanji star confirmed in June 2023 that he would be making a full return to the Fast and the Furious franchise as Luke Hobbs. 
“It has been so incredibly personally gratifying and satisfying and exciting to see your reaction around the world,” he gushed in an Instagram video. “First of all the secret of Hobbs being back … that was a secret that was impossible to keep. Despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we’ve been like brothers for years, and despite our differences, when you lead with — number one, resolve — but also you think about the future and plans that are much bigger than ourselves. Those bigger plans are the buildouts. They are the North Star.” 
Johnson added that his “North Star” has remained his “guiding light" throughout his career and in the fast of the Fast and the Furious, that North Star is “the franchise that we love,” the “characters that we love” and the “fans that we love.”

Cena, who joined the Fast & Furious family after Johnson’s departure, shared that he believed that the actors butted heads since they were so similar in personality. 
“You have two very alpha, driven people. You get two, there can only be one,” Cena said in an April 2024 of the “Armchair Expert” podcast. “[I] know the room and just kind of adapt to what's going on. I'm being invited into someone's home, into someone's family and regardless of how they look physically in comparison into another human being, this is one IP that is nine installments and it's an action movie. That's rarefied air.”

The 2025 Golden Globes were full of celebrity couples — and some stood out among the rest.

The first awards show of this year’s season took place at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 5. Celebs like The Bear actress Liza Colón-Zayas and Monsters breakout star Cooper Koch stepped out on the red carpet with their significant others, taking date night to a whole other level.

Colón-Zayas was one of the first of the night to arrive, with her husband, David Zayas, by her side. The duo stunned — and packed on the PDA — while posing for photos.

First-time nominee Koch arrived shortly thereafter, looking dapper in a tuxedo with boyfriend Stuart McClave on his arm. Tonight’s awards show marks the second time the duo walked a red carpet together.

The 2025 Golden Globes was a big night for Monsters — despite not winning any awards — after helping renew interest in Erik and Lyle Menéndez‘s murder case.

Monsters was nominated on Sunday, January 5, for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series for Cooper Koch‘s performance as Erik and Best Male Supporting Actor — Television for Javier Bardem‘s performance as José Menendez. Bardem lost his category to Tadanobu Asano from Shōgun, Koch lost out to Colin Farrell for The Penguin and Baby Reindeer won over Monsters.

Season 2 of the hit Netflix series debuted in September and chronicled Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik’s (Koch) 1990 arrest for the murder of their parents, José (Bardem) and Kitty (Chloë Sevigny). Taking inspiration from footage of the trial and subsequent interviews, Monsters mirrored key moments from the siblings’ lives before and after they were sentenced to life without parole for shooting their mother and father.

“I got the audition and I watched the trial videos for the first time,” Koch, 28, told GQ Australia in December 2024 about his devotion to the role. “I was so moved and I believed them immediately. It was then that I found all the similarities and I became quite obsessed with the case and with their story.”

Koch recalled auditioning to play Erik in two other high-profile projects before Monsters, adding, “I was taping and taping, auditioning and auditioning, for seven years. Then finally you get the one that is supposed to happen.”

Episodes 4 and 5 received critical and fan praise for how it approached Erik and Lyle’s claims that they killed their parents in self-defense following years of alleged physical, emotional and sexual abuse. However, the show received backlash for other inaccuracies about the Menéndez brothers, including the insinuation that they were in a sexual relationship.

“I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show,” read a statement from Erik, now 53, that was shared via Lyle’s Facebook page in September. “I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.”

Erik wasn’t thrilled about how he and Lyle, now 56, were portrayed.

“It is sad for me to know that Netflix’s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime have taken the painful truths several steps backward — back through time to an era when the prosecution built a narrative on a belief system that males were not sexually abused, and that males experienced rape trauma differently than women,” Erik’s statement continued. “Those awful lies have been disrupted and exposed by countless brave victims over the last two decades who have broken through their personal shame and bravely spoken out. So now Murphy shapes his horrible narrative through vile and appalling character portrayals of Lyle and of me and disheartening slander. Is the truth not enough?”

What Does 'Monsters' Get Wrong About Erik and Lyle Menendez's Murder Case?

While creator Ryan Murphy has stood by the scripted show’s vision, Koch has shown support for Erik.

“I’m very hopeful that we can correct that injustice and heal what has been such a long, devastating trauma,” Koch told GQ last month. “If I had anything to do with it, I’m so glad. But there are a lot of people who are working behind the scenes who are really helping.”

Erik and Lyle are currently awaiting their next court date after the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office recommended a resentencing following the renewed public interest from Monsters and Netflix’s documentary The Menéndez Brothers.

The Golden Globes is one of the biggest nights in Hollywood, and it wouldn’t be complete without stars celebrating their wins with their loved ones.

In January 2018, Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick shared a smooch on the red carpet as they kicked off their 30th year of marriage. They’re not the only ones who’ve packed on the PDA over the years.

In January 2020, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban showed that their romance was still red hot while attending the Golden Globes. The country crooner playfully lifted up the Big Little Lies alum, whom he wed in 2006, as they posed for pictures together.

While the 2021 broadcast was done via Zoom amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it didn’t stop couples from sharing intimate moments with viewers. In fact, when Sacha Baron Cohen won his two awards that evening for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, his then-wife, Isla Fisher, gave him a big kiss on camera. (The pair announced their separation in April 2024 after 14 years of marriage.)

Annabelle Wallis was Sebastian Stan’s No. 1 fan when he won his first-ever Golden Globe trophy on Sunday, January 5.

After it was announced that Stan, 42, won the trophy for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, Wallis, 38, leaped to her feet to congratulate her beau with a kiss.

In Stan’s acceptance speech, he also closed out his remarks with a sweet tribute to Wallis.

“Annabelle, I love you,” Stan gushed as she gave him a standing ovation.

Stan won the comedic Globe for his role in A Different Man, in which he plays a character with facial difference. He was also double nominee on Sunday and is up for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice. 

“Our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end now. We have to normalize it and continue to expose ourselves to it and our children and encourage acceptance,” Stan further said in his acceptance speech. “One way we can do that is by continuing to champion stories that are inclusive. This was not an easy movie to make — neither is The Apprentice.”

He added, “These are tough subject matters, but these films are real and they’re necessary and we can’t be afraid and look away. … This is for my mom, who left Romania in search of a better life and gave me everything — and for my stepfather, Tony, who took on a single mom and a grown-up kid. Thank you for being a real man. Golden Globes, I love you.”

Stan and Wallis were first linked in May 2022 when they were spotted at Robert Pattinson’s birthday party. Weeks later, they were seen cozying up on a vacation to Greece. Neither Stan nor Wallis had publicly addressed their relationship until Sunday, which serves as their red carpet debut.

Walking the carpet together, Stan wrapped his arm around Wallis as they posed for the cameras. He wore a tailored black suit with white trim, while Wallis opted for a sparkly, pink column gown.

Wallis last dated Chris Pine until their split in 2022. Stan, for his part, has previously been linked to the likes of Alejandra Onieva, Jennifer Morrison, Dianna Aaron and Leighton Meester. The Gossip Girl alum, 38, was also present at the 2025 Golden Globes, attending alongside her husband, Adam Brody, who was nominated for Nobody Wants This.

Zendaya turned heads at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards when she rocked a sparkling ring on that finger.

The Challengers actress, 28, walked the red carpet solo on Sunday, January 5, while wearing a custom Louis Vuitton gown and Bulgari jewelry. On her left hand, Zendaya sported a diamond ring — sparking rumors she’s engaged to boyfriend Tom Holland. While inside the ceremony, Zendaya changed into a white dress and posed for a photo with Ayo Edebiri — and was still sporting the diamond ring but not the Bulgari necklace. Us Weekly reached out to her rep for comment.

Zendaya was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role as Tashi Duncan in Challengers. She lost the award to Demi Moore, who starred in The Substance. (Nightbitch’s Amy Adams, Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo, Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascón and Anora’s Mikey Madison were also competing in that category.)

Zendaya and Holland, 28, met while working on Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, taking their romance public five years later when they were spotted packing on the PDA in his car. After their relationship was confirmed, a source exclusively told Us that Zendaya and Holland’s friendship played a pivotal role in taking their connection a step further.

Ahead of the holidays, Holland revealed on “The Dish” podcast that he was excited to spend time with “my girlfriend’s family.”

When they’re not together, Holland noted that he’s supporting Zendaya from afar. During an interview with Men’s Health earlier this month, Holland explained that he doesn’t typically walk a red carpet with Zendaya “because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us.”

Nelly Furtado has entered 2025 feeling sexier in her skin than ever before.

Furtado, 46, took to social media on Sunday, January 5, to share two makeup-free photos of herself rocking a neon orange bikini. The Instagram carousel started with a front-on, full-length shot of the singer and closed with a selfie of Furtado snapping her frame from the side.

The “Maneater” hitmaker paired her post with a lengthy message that reflected on her experiences throughout 2024. “This year I became aware of the aesthetic pressure of my work in a brand new way , while simultaneously I experienced new levels of self -love and genuine confidence from within,” Furtado began before recalling that she took “legal action against a few charlatans” who were allegedly “selling health and beauty myths about me.”

Furtado offered no further details into the legal action before shifting into the subject of her appearance and revealing some recent dental work. “For whoever cares, I have never had any face or body surgeries or augmentation, besides for veneers on the top row of my teeth, quite recently,” Furtado wrote. “So far, I have not had any face or lip injections or fillers of any kind.”

She then discussed some long-held beauty secrets, including an “old school facialist” Furtado began seeing when she was 20 and drinking “a lot of water” plus sleeping on her back to ensure she looks fresh on red carpets and while professionally photographed.

“Sometimes on the red carpet or at photo shoots my makeup artist uses face tape to give my eyes, skin and makeup more lift,” Furtado also revealed in the post. “Sometimes my stylist uses body tape to give a certain look to different silhouettes. Body makeup can also sometimes be contoured to achieve a certain look. Makeup can do magical things! So can great eyebrows! So can a great hairstylist!”

Furtado — who shares daughter Nevis Gahunia with ex Jasper Gahunia and another daughter and son (whose names haven’t been publicly revealed) with ex Gerard Damien Long — added that she is proud of the “spider veins” her body possesses. “They remind me of my mom and aunties and life so I think that’s why I haven’t parted with them so far ❤.”

The musician concluded her candid post with an encouraging message to her fans. “Express yourself freely, celebrate your individuality and know that it’s perfectly OK to be OK with what you see in the mirror, and it’s also OK to want something different,” she wrote. “We are all cute little humans just bouncing around the earth looking for hugs.”

Sculptural necklines were (rightfully so) all the rage at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Stars including Brianna Chickenfry, Elle Fanning, Zoë Saldaña and more rocked the design at the awards, which were held on Sunday, January 5, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Take Fanning, for example, who delivered elegance and charm in a Balmain gown featuring a sculpted bodice complete with a bedazzled cheetah print. The crystals cascaded into a pleated bodice attached to a ball skirt. Fanning accessorized the look with a glittery bracelet and gold Cartier choker.

Demi Moore gave viewers a moment to remember at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.

Moore, 62, won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the Sunday, January 5, awards show, which took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

“I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now,” Moore gushed during her acceptance speech. “I’ve been doing this a long time, like, over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. And I’m just so humbled and so grateful. Thirty years ago I had a producer tell me that I was a ‘popcorn actress,’ and at that time I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have. … I bought in and I believed that. And that corroded me over time to the point where, a few years ago, I thought that maybe that was it. That I’d done what I was supposed to do.”

She added, “I was at kind of a low point, [and] I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance. And the universe told me, ‘You’re not done.’”

Five other nominees rounded out the category: Amy Adams for Nightbitch, Cynthia Erivo for Wicked, Karla Sofía Gascón for Emilia Pérez, Mikey Madison for Anora and Zendaya for Challengers.

Prior to the ceremony, Adams, 50, and Zendaya, 28, were already Golden Globe winners. Adams previously took home Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy in 2014 for American Hustle and in 2015 for Big Eyes. She has also received seven additional nominations for her roles in Enchanted, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, Arrival, Vice and Sharp Objects. Zendaya, for her part, earned Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama for Euphoria in 2023.

Erivo, 37, and Moore, 62, both had three previous Golden Globe nods before the 2025 awards show. Erivo landed hers for her work in Harriet and Genius: Aretha, while Moore received prior nominations for Ghost and If These Walls Could Talk.

As for Gascón, 52, and Madison, 25, this year marked the first time they were recognized by the Golden Globes.

After the nominations were announced in December 2024, Madison said in a statement that she was “deeply humbled, honored and absolutely overjoyed” by the news, calling it a “dream come true.”

Gascón, meanwhile, noted, “This has been an overwhelming morning. Tears filled my eyes when I heard the news.” She went on to thank “all of you who support me and live with my successes as if they were yours,” adding, “This nomination gives me hope for humanity.”

Moore, for her part, told Variety that she was excited to be included in the awards season conversation after decades in the industry.

“I don’t want to make it mean too much,” she explained. “But I have to remember: don’t make it mean too little. Because then you miss the moment of the joy and really the beauty of all the hard work that’s gone in to get to this point.”

More than two decades after Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton divorced, they both stepped out at the 82nd annual Golden Globes.

Jolie, 49, is nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama thanks to her role in Maria and stunned on the red carpet in a glitzy silver Alexander McQueen gown with matching jewelry and stilettos. She was joined by 19-year-old daughter Zahara, who was a vision in white.

“Z is here. She’s hiding over there ‘cause you’re live,” Jolie quipped to Variety, noting her daughter approved of the red carpet look. (Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt, who recently finalized their divorce, share Zahara and five other children.)

Thornton, 69, meanwhile, skipped the red carpet before he was pictured in the Beverly Hilton ballroom alongside wife Connie Angland. While Thornton opted for a classic black tuxedo, Angland, 60, donned a white gown with a black ribbon cascading off each shoulder. (Thornton and Angland have been married since 2014.)

Before Jolie married Pitt, she was married to Thornton between May 2000 and May 2003. (It was Jolie’s second marriage; she was married to Johnny Lee Miller from 1996 to 2000.)

Jolie and Thornton went public with their whirlwind romance in June 2000 shortly before they tied the knot. Their relationship famously made headlines after Jolie got “Billy Bob” tattooed on her arm and they started wearing vials of each other’s blood on chains around their necks.

“The necklaces were a very simple thing,” Thornton explained during a June 2018 appearance on the “HFPA In Conversation” podcast. “‘Hey, let’s poke our finger with a pin and smear a little on there, and when we’re away from each other, we’ll wear the necklace.’ That was that easy, but by the time it came out in the press, it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks.”

Jolie, for her part, eventually removed the ink amid the divorce.

Since then, Thornton has been candid about what went wrong in their relationship.

“I never felt good enough for [Angelina],” Thornton previously told GQ in 2016. “I’m real uncomfortable around rich and important people. I like how I am.”

Three years later, Thornton exclusively told Us Weekly that he and Jolie remain “good friends.”

“We’ve been friends for years and years and years,” he told Us in September 2019. “So we keep up with each other. She’s not in town a lot, so we don’t see each other much, but we talk.”

Jolie also remains on good terms with Thornton’s family and his children. Thornton shares sons Harry and William with ex-wife Pietra Dawn Cherniak, daughter Amanda with ex-wife Melissa Lee Gatlin and daughter Bella with Angland.

“To this day, she still sends me Christmas gifts every year and stuff like that,” Harry, now 30, told Entertainment Tonight in January 2022. “I don’t talk to her on the phone every day but every now and then we talk. She was so cool!”

He added at the time, “She took [my siblings and I] camping every week and she rented, like, an RV one time, and we went on a full camping trip. She was just so fun for us back when we were, like, younger. Like, she was a lot of fun.”

Ali Wong attended the 2025 Golden Globe Awards without Bill Hader.

The actress, 42, walked the red carpet solo ahead of the Sunday, January 5, awards show at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. During the broadcast, she accepted the award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for her Netflix special Ali Wong: Single Lady — and made no mention of Hader, 46, in her speech.

“My best friend is here, Mia, thank you so much for all of your love and support throughout the years,” she said during her speech. “This means a lot. Thank you so much.”

Jamie Foxx, Nikki Glaser, Seth Meyers, Adam Sandler and Ramy Youssef were also up for the award that Wong took home for her special, which premiered in October 2024.

Wong is already a Golden Globe winner, having secured the trophy for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Amy Lau on the Netflix show Beef in 2024. She and Steven Yeun starred in the series as two individuals involved in a road rage incident.

Hader — who is a four-time Golden Globe nominee himself — supported Wong last year when she won her first Golden Globe. Although they walked the red carpet separately in January 2024, the couple shared a kiss and multiple hugs when she learned of her victory.

Wong did not mention Hader in her acceptance speech at the time, but she gave a special shout-out to her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta, with whom she shares daughters Mari, 9, and Nikki, 7. (Hader, for his part, is the father of daughters Hannah, 15, Harper, 12, and Hayley, 10, with ex-wife Maggie Carey.)

“I really need to thank the father of my children and my best friend, Justin, for all of your love and support,” she said. “It’s because of you that I’m able to be a working mother.”

Wong was first linked to Hader in 2022 following her separation from Hakuta, 43. Wong and Hader briefly split later that year, but Us Weekly confirmed in April 2023 that they were back together.

In Wong’s Golden Globe-nominated comedy special, she opened up about the origins of her relationship with Hader.

“Hey, Ali, I just happened to hear the news of your divorce today, and I gotta tell you … I’m excited,” she recalled Hader telling her in a phone call after he got her number from a mutual friend. “I am, Ali, because look, I have had a crush on you forever, and I actually told my best friend years ago that you were my dream girl. And I know this sounds crazy, but, uh, I want you to be my girlfriend.”

Wong revealed that Hader then sent her flowers in multiple cities during her tour in Europe, which her female friends thought was “so sweet.” However, her male friends warned her that Hader could be a “psychopath.”

“That’s how cheap and lazy men have become,” Wong quipped. “That now when a fellow man commits any act of kindness, any romantic gesture, it must be a symptom of an undiagnosed mental illness.”
