I moved from the US to Berlin. I was yelled at and kicked out of registration offices, but I didn't give up. I'm happier than I ever was living in the US.

  • I'm from Colorado and moved to Berlin but never felt accepted until after 7 years of living there.
  • Despite trying to be friendly and smile at strangers, I would usually get weird looks and scoffs.
  • Everything changed after I got my adorable wire-haired dachshund, Toby.

Seven years after moving from the US to Berlin, I was added to my first German WhatsApp group with all the dog owners in my neighborhood. It felt like a miracle.

Up to that point, I always had passive interactions with other Germans. It became a game to get people — like the barista at my coffee shop or my grocery cashier — to smile at me. I had about a 30% success rate, a lot of strange looks, and the occasional scoff.

Where I'm from — Longmont, Colorado — I would smile at random people on the street and they'd smile back. I now realize that smiling at strangers isn't part of the culture in this city.

At the time, though, I was simply living my life in my bubble of international expat friends without fully integrating into German society. Not because I didn't want to but because it felt inaccessible like there was a wall that I couldn't penetrate.

All that changed after Toby, my beloved wire-haired dachshund.

I first visited Berlin in 2015 after graduating from college

When I first visited Berlin, I was instantly enamored with the city's vibrant energy, which was so different from the foothills of Longmont, Colorado, where I grew up.

So in January 2018, I took the leap and moved to Berlin. Soon after, I found my now-husband. We fell in love not only with each other but also with the city.

Early on, we spent every weekend discovering WWII bunkers, eating Turkish döner, and singing Karaoke in the park on warm summer days.

The honeymoon phase didn't last, though.

When my Schengen 90-day visa was about to expire, I sought a long-term, freelance visa

My first experience trying to get my long-term freelance visa in the registration office was being yelled at by a government worker — others soon followed.

"Kein English! Nein!" (You don't speak English! No!) Several government workers shouted at me, shooing me out of their offices.

After a particularly traumatic appointment, I severely doubted if I'd made the right choice to move here.

I messaged a friend for advice and received the tough love I needed. "If you don't really want this, then leave. But you'll never know how your life could turn out if you don't at least try," they said.

Four intense weeks later — after accumulating enough paperwork to fill an entire binder, being ghosted by my accountant, and storming into his office — I was granted my long-term visa.

Sadly, the struggles didn't end there.

Soon after, I had an encounter that permanently changed me

One day, I was at a bar and overheard a group next to me bashing Americans, talking about how dumb and ear-piercingly loud they were.

I didn't feel like their comments were directed at me, specifically, but their very expressive disdain for American culture prompted me to chime in.

Feeling self-conscious, I tried to tell them this was just culture and that every culture has its quirks. I couldn't change their minds, though, and quickly learned these were not the type of people I wanted to hang around with.

To this day, I can't deny that the interaction affected me. My husband still catches me whispering when I'm in public places because I'm afraid of being considered too loud.

These experiences with the visa registration office, group in the bar, and unsmiling locals were unsettling and left me feeling like an outsider for years. Then, Toby came along.

It was like the whole world suddenly opened up to me

We got Toby in 2023 when he was 15 weeks old and not potty-trained. We spent hours trekking up and down our fifth-floor walk-up trying to teach him where — and where not — to go to the bathroom.

I never expected that — after being in this international bubble for so many years — getting a puppy, specifically a dachshund, would change this dynamic. Turns out, Germans love dachshunds.

As soon as Toby hit the streets, the amount of smiles went from 30% to 80%. From our grumpy downstairs neighbor to the grandma and her grandchild across the street, we were met with curiosity and excitement.

Moving to Berlin hasn't been easy. I've faced challenges, loneliness, and moments of doubt. However, I'm happier living here than I ever was living in the US.

Plus, I've built a life full of incredible memories and am blessed to experience a culture so different from my own. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

$1 ice cream and billionaire brother founders: Welcome to the biggest fast food chain in the world

Author holding up Mixue's soft-serve ice cream in front of its storefront in Singapore.
Mixue is known for its soft-serve ice creams and fruity milk teas, all priced under $3.

Aditi Bharade

  • Mixue, the world's largest fast-food chain, had a blockbuster first day as a publicly traded company.
  • The company's shares jumped 30% from its IPO price when markets opened.
  • The chain has over 45,000 stores and has attracted customers with cheap ice cream and bubble tea.

A bubble tea chain from China just went public, and it's clinched the spot as the world's biggest fast food company.

Mixue, a bubble tea and ice cream chain founded in 1997 in China's Henan province, went public on Monday in a splashy Hong Kong IPO. It offered close to 17.1 million shares, amounting to 3.45 billion Hong Kong dollars, or $444 million.

Mixue had over 45,000 stores globally — franchisees and self-owned — as of September last year. It has outpaced Starbucks and McDonald's retail footprints, which have around 40,000 and 41,000 outlets worldwide, respectively.

The stock jumped more than 30% to $262 when markets opened on Monday, the first day of trading in Hong Kong. When markets closed on Monday, it was trading at $294, 45% higher than its IPO price.

The chain's founder, Zhang Hongchao, and his younger brother, Zhang Hongfu, have a combined net worth of $8.1 billion after the share sale, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing its billionaires index.

$1 ice cream, $2 drinks

Mixue's main draw is its cheap products, customers told Business Insider.

The chain has around 20 outlets in Singapore, all operating as to-go counters. When BI visited an outlet near Singapore's Central Business District at around noon on Monday, there were around five people in line.

The storefront's most prominent visual was the brand's "Snow King" mascot — a snowman wearing a crown.

The cheapest item at the store BI visited was the $1.10 Signature King Cone ice cream, while the most expensive item was the Cheese Strawberry drink, priced at $3. Most of the store's drinks were sold in the $2 range.

Mixue's products in Singapore were largely priced under SG $4.
The most expensive menu item at the Mixue outlet BI visited was the Cheese Strawberry drink, which was $3.

Eden Loke, 23, a communications executive, said she first heard of Mixue when someone wearing the brand's inflatable "Snow King" mascot was filmed prancing around at a shopping complex in Singapore. The mascot's shenanigans at the mall — including a dance-off with another brand's mascot — went viral on TikTok.

"The viral marketing, likable branding, word of mouth from family, and unbeatable prices resonated with me," Loke said.

She said her go-to drink is Mixue's Kiwi Oolong Tea, which costs $2.60. Loke said the low price was the biggest factor in making her pick the brand over other stores.

Eli Tun, a student waiting for his regular order — a $2.20 Taro Milk Tea — said he first spotted the brand in Malaysia last year and realized how cheap the drinks were.

Since then, he's switched from buying from other popular bubble tea brands in Singapore, like LiHo Tea or KOI Thé, saying he would rather pay $3 at Mixue than $6 for a similar drink elsewhere.

"I'm not looking for the cream of the crop of drinks, just something to drink while going home," Tun, 19, said.

Nathanael Chow, an investment consultant, said he always gets the Signature King Cone at Mixue — vanilla soft-serve ice cream in a tall waffle cone.

Chow said he was drawn to the brand because of the brand's catchy jingle, which is set to the tune of "Oh! Susanna." Some Mixue outlets play the jingle at the store, though the shop BI visited did not.

Mixue's success lies in courting China's cost-conscious buyers

Jason Yu, the managing director for Greater China at the UK-based consumer research group Kantar Worldpanel, said Mixue's edge in China's highly competitive bubble tea market is that most of its products are priced under RMB 10, or about $1.40.

"This is very attractive to consumers in the lower tier cities and towns," Yu said.

Alexandra Leung, the founder of Monogic, a food and beverage marketing and public relations agency in Singapore and Hong Kong, said Mixue's success can be attributed to having small shops in high-traffic areas, particularly around campuses.

"This approach not only captures a significant customer base but also ensures high foot traffic and brand loyalty, especially among students who frequently consume their products," Leung said.

While other bubble tea brands have been focusing on premium positioning with prices above RMB 20 in tier 1 cities like Beijing and Shanghai, Mixue "successfully established its presence in lower-tier cities where competition is less intense," Leung said.

China has seen a bubble tea IPO boom.

Earlier in February, Guming Holdings had its Hong Kong IPO. Sichuan Baicha Baidao Industrial Co — also known as Chabaidao — went public in Hong Kong last April, although its stock is trading well below its IPO price.

Representatives for Mixue did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The Elon tax: Ad insiders say they're advising clients to spend on X to avoid legal and political headaches

elon musk at trump rally
Elon Musk owns X, which has seen some advertisers return to the platform.

AP/Evan Vucci

  • Some ad agencies and consultants say they're advising clients to spend on Elon Musk's X.
  • Industry insiders told BI they felt advertising on X could help brands avoid some political and legal risks.
  • However, many ad insiders bemoaned the way the political environment was affecting ad buys.

You might call it the Elon tax.

Some ad agency execs and consultants tell Business Insider they are begrudgingly advising clients to spend on Elon Musk's X.

Their attitude reflects a wider discomfort in the ad world.

Thirteen ad industry insiders who spoke with BI said they were bristling at the current state of play — namely that advertising on X seemed to be a cost of doing business in a politically charged era with Musk a central force in Donald Trump's White House.

Some of these insiders said they viewed spending on X as a type of insurance policy to avoid an advertiser being singled out publicly as a boycotter, sued, or saddled with some sort of regulatory scrutiny.

These insiders were a mix of marketers, agency executives, and consultants. Most of them asked for anonymity because of concerns about potential reprisals; their identities are known to BI.

On Tuesday, the research and advisory firm Forrester published a blog post that lambasted X while advising advertisers to spend on the platform to avoid potential repercussions. The analysts wrote that advertisers were "losing control of media choice" in the current political environment. They recommended advertisers "lean into non-binding advertising commitments with X" and increase spending gradually if X met specific goals.

Jay Pattisall, VP and principal analyst at Forrester, told BI that the firm heard less feedback than usual for a post weighing in on a hot industry topic.

"It's reflective of the business community at large not wanting to engage in controversy," Pattisall said. "The unique conditions of the moment and politics of the day make for the necessity to put these very common sense, practical pieces of advice out."

Some advertising agency insiders and consultants shared similar sentiments with BI.

"While Musk keeps the position he has, you just have to be a bit more careful," said an ad agency veteran of more than 20 years. "That's the reality."

"Until we get more legal guidance, keep setting aside that money," they added.

Fears of potential political reprisals for advertisers who spurn X got more credence recently with a report in The Wall Street Journal. Citing people with knowledge of the talks, the Journal reported that X CEO Linda Yaccarino and a lieutenant had pushed IPG to spend more money on X. IPG execs interpreted the message as a reminder that the Trump administration could impede a proposed merger with ad giant Omnicom, the Journal report said.

Several ad industry insiders said that if X really used these tactics, they felt it would amount to bullying.

"We do not make spending commitments on behalf of clients to any partner or platform, and decision-making authority always rests with the client," an IPG spokesperson said in a statement.

X and Yaccarino didn't respond to requests for comment.

X has been attracting advertisers, but long-term success is far from certain

While X has attracted advertisers, new and old, in recent months — including big names like Apple — its business doesn't seem to be booming. Marketing research company WARC estimates that X will pull in $1.96 billion in global ad revenue in 2025, down 11% from last year — and a steep fall from the $4.53 billion WARC estimated X generated in 2022, the year Musk acquired it (back when it was named Twitter). X is a private company and doesn't publicly share revenue figures.

X has not historically been a priority media buy because it doesn't provide the scale and performance that platforms like Meta and Google offer.

That said, X has a sizable audience that appeals to many advertisers, especially during high-engagement events like live sports or breaking news.

WPP CEO Mark Read, who runs one of the world's largest advertising holding companies, told the Financial Times that the company had seen more clients returning to X in recent months. He added that WPP was talking with X about how it could support the platform in communicating to advertisers that it is a safe venue to advertise on.

"The usage is definitely up and if you look at the impact that it has on world politics, you have to say it's powerful," Read said in an FT story published last week. "I think for some clients it's a good place to be."

Some advertisers are seeing a higher return on investment on X than in previous years, Michael Beach, CEO of the adtech company Cross Screen Media, told BI.

"Pre-Elon Musk, their adtech was so bad we moved spend away from Twitter," Beach said. "The technology has improved, and small advertisers understand that the inventory is undervalued versus other platforms."

Another top media buyer previously told BI that advertising money was increasingly being used to hedge against political risk — and often, these decisions were being made by the CEOs of big corporations versus the chief marketing officer.

Lou Paskalis, CEO of the marketing consultancy AJL Advisory, said this kind of fraught political situation makes the job of a CMO harder.

"If 10% of my ad budget has to be allocated" to risk mitigation, Paskalis said, "my CFO isn't going to reduce my business goals by 10% — he's simply going to say, you need to deliver your goals with the 90% of your budget that is investable 'rationally.'"

Musk versus advertisers

Musk's takeover of the platform in 2022 laid the groundwork for the current relationship between X and the ad industry.

A wave of advertisers pulled away from X over concerns about brand safety, ad performance, and the return of banned accounts.

But X didn't go down without a fight.

In August, X filed a lawsuit against several of its advertisers — such as Mars and CVS Health — accusing them of illegally conspiring to boycott the platform through their membership in a now-defunct industry initiative called the Global Alliance for Responsible Media. X has since added several more brands to that complaint as defendants, including Colgate, Lego, and Shell. Unilever was initially named as a defendant but reached an agreement with X — the terms of which weren't disclosed by either party — and was dropped from the suit in October. Unilever said X had committed to meeting its responsibility standards around brand safety and performance.

GARM shut down days after the X lawsuit was filed, saying it was a small nonprofit with limited resources. Its parent organization, the World Federation of Advertisers, has maintained that it plans to fight the suit and didn't contravene antitrust laws. The litigation is ongoing.

Jim Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, is also investigating whether advertisers' and agencies' participation with GARM led to conservative media, including X, being demonetized. In December, Jordan wrote to the CEOs of Omnicom and IPG, asking them to provide documents and reserve records regarding their GARM membership.

"Given that your company was a member of GARM from its inception and was also an active participant in GARM during its collusive activities, the proposed merger raises potential anticompetitive concerns," the letters read.

The legal developments — as well as Musk's political rise — have put marketers on high alert.

"I've never seen anything like this before in the history of our business," said a second advertising industry veteran speaking generally about the current political environment for advertisers.

But, they added, "You've got to play defense right now."

Celebrity Exes at the 2025 Oscars: Timothee Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp

Anything can happen at the 2025 Academy Awards, including worlds colliding and exes like Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp potentially crossing paths.

Chalamet, 29, and Depp, 25, were thrust back into the same room on Sunday, March 2, while attending the Oscars at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Chalamet arrived at the awards show in celebration of his nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. The film is also nominated for the biggest award of the night: Best Picture.

Depp, meanwhile, was invited to Hollywood’s biggest night as a presenter. She wore a sheer black dress with lace detail while walking the red carpet prior to the event.

As Chalamet got cozy at his seat with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, Depp dazzled on stage as part of the presenting team for Best Costume Design. Depp was joined by Elle Fanning, who is one of Chalamet’s A Complete Unknown castmates, John Lithgow, Connie Nielsen and Bowen Yang to give Wicked the award.

Former spouses Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan were also spotted attending Hollywood’s biggest night. Quaid, 70, brought his wife, Laura Savoie, as his plus one, while Ryan, 63, walked the red carpet solo. (Quaid and Ryan divorced in 2001 after 10 years of marriage. They share son Jack Quaid.)

Emma Stone and ex-boyfriend Kieran Culkin were more evident about their Oscars reunion. In fact, an eyewitness told Us Weekly that Culkin, 42, and his wife, Jazz Charton, “came down and met Emma and gave her a huge hug and we’re so excited to see her.” The couple were spotted chatting with Stone — who produced A Real Pain, which earned Culkin his first Oscar win on Sunday — for a “few moments” before returning to their seats. (Stone, 36, and Culkin dated from 2010 to 2011.)

While Chalamet wasn’t seen publicly interacting with his ex at the awards show, fans still remember their whirlwind romance well. Us Weekly broke the news in October 2018 that the pair were dating after they were spotted kissing in New York City that same month.

The following year, the Call Me by Your Name actor and Depp made headlines once again after being photographed passionately kissing on a boat in Italy. The September 2019 makeout session went viral and haunted Chalamet for years.

“I went to bed that night thinking that was one of the best days of my life. I was on this boat all day with someone I really loved, and closing my eyes, I was like, indisputably, ‘That was great,’” Chalamet told GQ in his November 2020 cover story. “And then waking up to all these pictures, and feeling embarrassed, and looking like a real nob? All pale? And then people are like: ‘This is a P.R. stunt.’ A P.R. stunt? Do you think I’d want to look like that in front of all of you?!”

Chalamet and Depp’s Italian vacation was their last public outing before they called it quits. Us confirmed in April 2020 that they parted ways after more than one year together.

Us confirmed in April 2023 that Chalamet was seeing Jenner. “He’s very charming and he makes her laugh, and he’s easy to talk to,” an insider said at the time, adding, “He’s not like any of the other guys she’s dated before and although he may not seem like her type, they have really good chemistry.”

Lily-Rose, meanwhile, confirmed her romance with 070 Shake (real name Danielle Balbuena) in May 2023. The twosome initially sparked relationship speculation when they were spotted at Paris Fashion Week together that February.

Timothee Chalamet Flies Solo at SAG Awards, Doesn't Bring GF Kylie Jenner

Outside of running into his ex, the Oscars marked the end of a big awards season for Chalamet. The actor was previously nominated for his role in A Complete Unknown at the BAFTA Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards and many other smaller awards ceremonies.

He won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of the iconic musician at the 2025 SAG Awards in February.

“I was not expecting this at all, truly. I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is this was five and a half years of my life,” Chalamet said during his February 23 acceptance speech. “I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist. Mr. Bob Dylan. A true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him.”

Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka Use Elton John Oscar Party as Date Night

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have defied Hollywood odds with their long-lasting marriage.

The actors met when they were both on Broadway, with Harris in Cabaret and Burtka in Gypsy. Burtka was in another relationship at the time, and often commuted to Los Angeles to see his then-boyfriend.

“I didn’t want to be that guy who was creating some sort of romantic interference,” Harris explained to Out in 2012. “So, I was always around when he was around, hoping the stars would align. When we all hung out for the first time — I was invited by [mutual friend] Kate to an American Idol viewing party — I just stammered around him. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.”

The twosome began dating in 2004 and Harris publicly came out as gay two years later. The pair expanded their family in October 2010, welcoming fraternal twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace via surrogate. Harris and Burtka secretly tied the knot in 2014 with only 45 guests in attendance.

The pair went on their first date a week after Burtka went through a breakup. Harris admitted that he said those three little words before his better half was ready to say them back.
"I initially fell for David harder than he fell for me," the Doctor Who guest star told Out in 2012. "I was in love with him before he was comfortable saying it, and I think that speaks to our past experiences. I remember saying, 'I think I love you,' and he was like, 'That’s really nice,' which is not necessarily what you want to hear. But I appreciated his honesty in not jumping the gun and saying something because he felt obliged to."

The It's a Sin actor publicly came out as gay.
In 2021, Harris reflected on the process of announcing one's sexuality. "The coming out process, I just feel strongly, that it is so individual, there are so many variables and shades of grey within it, that it's no one's right to dictate any of it," he told Glamour UK. "There's a lot of metaphoric thought processes that come with making decisions. I think it's a long process."

Harris announced his engagement after the state of New York legalized same sex marriage. However, he said the proposals happened years prior.
"David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago!" he wrote via Twitter. "We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."
Burtka popped the question in 2007 on the street corner where they first met. Harris made his own proposal to Burtka in 2008 during their Valentine's Day celebration in Santa Monica.

Harris and Burtka celebrated their 20th anniversary.
“Our first date was 20 years ago today. Man, how time has flown by … and yet … we’ve shared so many adventures, created so many remarkable memories. If the next 7,300 days are like the previous ones, I’ll be absolutely thrilled,” Harris wrote via Instagram to commemorate the occasion. “Happy anniversary, David. I love you unconditionally, most of the time. XO.”
Burtka also shared a sweet post of his own.
“My dreams have come true since we decided to take this incredible journey together. Today marks 20 years since our first date and I can’t imagine a better life,” he wrote alongside a photo of the pair holding hands. “@Nph I love you with all my soul. I deserve a fking medal … and so do you.”

Michelle Trachtenberg Not Mentioned in 2025 Oscars In Memoriam After Death

Michelle Trachtenberg Honored at 2025 Oscars
Leon Bennett/WireImage

The 2025 Oscars In Memoriam section did not pay tribute to Michelle Trachtenberg days after her death at age 39.

While Trachtenberg was not in montage, which played during the Sunday, March 2, ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, she was listed as one of the names that Hollywood has lost in 2024-2025 on the official Academy website. (Shannen Doherty was also absent from the ceremony’s montage and only listed online.)

Days before the event, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Oscars executive producers are not responsible for who ends up in the tribute — instead the responsibility is bestowed upon an executive committee representing all 19 Academy branches. The group must compile a four-minute montage, which isn’t enough time to include everyone.

“We have to recognize all the art forms that go into the creation of motion pictures,” former Academy executive director Bruce Davis, who helped run past committees, said. “And if you include all the people, the steam goes out of the boiler very quickly.”

2025 Oscars Red Carpet Fashion: From Ariana Grande to Halle Berry

A source close to the outlet claimed that previous Oscar winners and Governors Award honorees have the best chance of being featured, followed by recipients of the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards. After that, a nominee would be considered. (Trachtenberg was not an Oscar nominee in her career.)

Us Weekly confirmed on Wednesday, February 26, that Trachtenberg was found unconscious inside her apartment in New York City’s Midtown West. Police sources told Us that the incident was not believed to be suspicious.

“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,” a rep for Trachtenberg told Us in a statement. “The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.”

The city medical examiner’s office told the New York Post on Thursday, February 27, that Trachtenberg’s death was officially listed as “undetermined” because her family objected to an autopsy.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s Mother Found Her in NYC Apartment: Report

Multiple sources told Us that Trachtenberg had a liver transplant before her death. It is unclear whether the organ transplant played a role in her death.

Trachtenberg skyrocketed to stardom in the 1996 movie Harriet the Spy, which she starred in alongside Rosie O’Donnell. In a statement to Us on Wednesday, O’Donnell, 61, called Trachtenberg’s death “heartbreaking,” adding, “I loved her very much. She struggled the last few years. I wish I could have helped.”

Trachtenberg went on to join the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Sarah Michelle Gellar’s onscreen sister, Dawn. Gellar, 47, mourned the loss of Trachtenberg in an emotional social media tribute on Thursday.

“Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you,’” Gellar wrote via Instagram, quoting a scene between her and Trachtenberg’s characters. She then quoted Dawn’s famous line from the musical episode: “‘The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.’ 💔💔💔🗝.’”

Michelle Trachtenberg’s Rep Confirms Her Death With ‘Great Sadness’

Trachtenberg also made appearances as a guest star on Gossip Girl as Georgina Sparks, as well as films including 17 Again and Ice Princess. The actress reprised her role as Georgina in 2022 and 2023 episodes of the short-lived Gossip Girl revival, which premiered in 2021.

In the wake of Trachtenberg’s passing, a source exclusively reflected to Us on how much “people loved her.”

“You’d hang out with her, and it wasn’t like she was crazily famous, but those who loved her were obsessed and would come up and talk,” an insider told Us, while a separate source added, “She was a lovely human being and a good friend. She remembered birthdays, was kind, and if she saw something on Instagram, she would reach out and say something nice.”

Emma Heming Willis celebrated Demi Moore’s 2025 Oscars nomination by cheering her on via social media.

Emma, 46, who is married to Moore’s ex-husband Bruce Willis, posted two tributes to Moore, 62, via Instagram Stories ahead of the Oscars kicking off on Sunday, March 2.

The first Story featured a stunning photo of Moore, nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Leading Role for her work in The Substance, dressed in a strapless black gown and accompanied by a caption that read, “Today’s the day!! Bring it home baby!!” Moore was tagged in the post and a small Oscar trophy image was also placed next to Emma’s text.

The second Instagram Story shared Moore’s daughter Rumer Willis’ supportive Instagram post from earlier that day, which featured a throwback photo of Moore and a caption that read, “My mama. My hero. My forever winner. @demimoore.” Emma wrote over Rumer’s post, “Mothers and their daughters 🤍🤍.”

Demi Moore Dazzles With Her Daughters at Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Moore shares three daughters with Bruce, 69, whom she was married to from November 1987 to October 2000 — Rumer, 36, Scout Willis, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 31. (Emma married Bruce in March 2009 and the pair share two daughters of their own, Mabel, 12, and Evelyn, 10.)

Emma, a model and actress, and Moore have formed a close friendship over the years, with the duo regularly showing public support for one another. In March 2019, Moore even attended a ceremony that saw Emma and Bruce renew their vows. Emma told Us Weekly exclusively at the time, “She [Demi] welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours. I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there.”

In January, Emma paid gushing tribute to Moore via Instagram, celebrating the Ghost actress’ Golden Globes win in the category of best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her performance in The Substance. “We are screaming over her!!! Congratulations @demimoore!!!!!” Emma wrote at the time.

The pair have also provided unwavering support to Bruce, who is suffering from frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and came together to celebrate the Die Hard actor’s 68th birthday in March 2023. “Happy birthday, BW! So glad we could celebrate you today. Love you and love our family. Thank you to everyone for the love and warm wishes — we all feel them,” Moore captioned an Instagram video at the time. The clip featured herself, Emma and their respective children singing to a delighted Willis.

‘Suits LA’ Makes 1st Harvey Specter Reference Before Gabriel Macht’s Debut

How Suits LA Referenced Harvey He s Too Pretty

Suits LA made the spinoff’s first reference to Harvey Specter when discussing Ted Black’s past life in New York City.

Troy Winbush was introduced as Kevin in the show’s premiere, but now that he’s onboard to help Ted (Stephen Amell) with a case, the depths of their relationship are starting to unfold. The Sunday, March 2, installment of Suits LA featured a scene during the latter part of the episode in which Winbush’s Kevin takes a seat in Ted’s fancy lawyer chair while they discuss Lester Thompson’s (Kevin Weisman) murder case — but more on that in a second.

When making a reference to the “old days,” Ted looks over to a picture hidden in the corner of his office. Kevin also spots the image, featuring Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter.

“I remember this guy,” Kevin states. “Great ball player. What was his name? Harry, something like that, right?”

'Suits LA' Has Some Major Similarities to 'Suits': A Complete Breakdown

An annoyed Ted responds, “Harvey. You know that.” (OG Suits watchers will know that this reference is cannon as Harvey did used to play baseball but injured his shoulder during his senior year, forcing him to sit out from the state championships.)

“I know I never liked him,” Kevin continues, talking about Harvey. “Because he’s the only person I knew cockier than you.”

Ted replies, “That’s funny. That’s exactly why I liked him.”

Kevin notes that Harvey was also “too pretty.” He added: “Can’t trust the pretty ones.”

For those needing an update on Lester’s murder case, well, it seems he was doing some pretty shady things involving money. As Kevin tells Ted, it’s getting harder to believe Lester’s innocence.

Over in the entertainment law world, Erica (Lex Scott Davis) and Rick (Bryan Greenberg) are still arguing — but kind of getting along? — about who will ultimately represent actress Dylan Pryor (Victoria Justice).

How Is Stephen Amell's 'Suits LA' Character Connected to Harvey Specter?

Spoiler alert, Rick — who, maybe, needs to stop spending time inside the firm he betrayed — wins this round, but he taught Erica a huge lesson about listening to her clients. Also, he revealed that they had an, ahem, romantic past and not just buckets of sexual tension. (Ted is “pissed” about this. He makes that clear before another Suits-esque sports reference.)

“The reason we stopped doing — what we used to do — is because you never respected the way I work,” Rick notes. “Caring about my clients does not make me less of a killer than you. It might even make me more of one.”

Erica replies with, “You might be right. But, Rick, you have no idea why we stopped doing what we used to do.”

New episodes of Suits LA premiere on NBC Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.

Amy Poehler and Boyfriend Joel Lovell Make Red Carpet Debut at 2025 Oscars

Amy Poehler and boyfriend Joel Lovell are red carpet official.

Poehler, 53, and Lovell posed together while attending the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Poehler rocked a classic black gown, which she paired with gold and diamond necklaces. Lovell, meanwhile, wore a black tuxedo and bowtie while holding hands with Poehler during their first public outing.

The couple have kept their romance low-key after October 2024 reports that they were dating. This marks Poehler’s first public relationship after dating fellow comedian Nick Kroll from 2013 to 2015. She moved on with Kroll, 46, after her high-profile divorce from Will Arnett.

Poehler and Arnett, 54, got married in 2003 and expanded their family with sons, Archie, 16, and Abel, 14. Following nine years of marriage, the duo announced their separation and filed for divorce in April 2014. Their divorce was finalized in 2016.

Arnett previously praised the way the pair successfully transitioned into their new coparenting relationship.

“It’s been almost 10 years and my kids are so lucky that Amy is their mother,” he told The Guardian in February 2022. “And I’m so lucky that we’re such a huge part of each other’s lives, even more so than we were five years ago.”

Arnett admitted how “excruciating” it was to return to work after the split, adding, “Just brutal, brutal, brutal. I was driving to the set [for Arrested Development] one day and I pulled over to the side of the road and cried for an hour.”

Poehler also opened up about the ups and downs that came with ending a long-term relationship.

“I am proud of how my ex-husband Will and I have been taking care of our children,” she wrote in her 2014 memoir, Yes Please, adding that she felt “incredibly alone” amid the breakup. “I am beyond grateful he is their father, and I don’t think a ten-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks.”

Arnett was briefly linked to interior designer Elizabeth Law in late 2016 following his divorce. He later moved on with Alessandra Brawn in 2019. The couple welcomed their son, Alexander, in 2020.

Earlier this year, Poehler received public support from Arnett after she launched her new podcast.

“So you’re doing a podcast, huh? That is awesome,” Arnett, who hosts the “Smartless” podcast, said in the February announcement video before changing the topic, “Would you happen to know my blood type? I’m gonna put it down in this form.”

Gene Hackman was honored for his extensive career in Hollywood at the 2025 Oscars.

During the live telecast at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 2, Morgan Freeman kicked off the In Memoriam portion of the show by sharing his fond memories of working with the late Oscar winner in the 2000 film Under Suspicion.

“I learned he was a generous performer and a man whose gifts elevated everyone’e work. He received two Oscars, but more importantly, he won the hearts of film lovers all over the world,” Freeman shared. “Gene always said, ‘I don’t think about legacy. I just hope people will remember me as someone who tried to put in good work.’ I think we speak for us all when I say, ‘Gene, you’ll be remembered for that and for so much more.’ Rest in peace, my friend.”

The tribute comes days after the actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were confirmed dead inside their shared Santa Fe, New Mexico, house. Hackman was 95 while his wife was 63.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy. He was loved and admired by millions around the world for his brilliant acting career, but to us he was always just Dad and Grandpa,” Hackman’s daughters and granddaughter told Us in a statement. “We will miss him sorely and are devastated by the loss.”

According to the Santa Fe sheriff’s department, an official cause of death has yet to be determined. However, foul play is not suspected.

Hackman’s daughter Elizabeth told Us Weekly on Thursday, February 27, that some initially suspected he and Arakawa died from carbon monoxide poisoning. The fire department, however, found no signs pointing to any leaks.

During his acting career, Hackman was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two including Best Supporting Actor in 1992 for his role as Little Bill Daggett in Unforgiven. He also won Best Actor in 1971 for his performance as detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in The French Connection.

In a 2008 interview with Reuters, Hackman mentioned that he was no longer accepting acting work and had decided to retire.

Gene Hackman and Wife Betsy Arakawa’s Relationship Timeline

“I haven’t held a press conference to announce retirement, but yes, I’m not going to act any longer,” he confirmed at the time. “I’ve been told not to say that over the last few years, in case some real wonderful part comes up, but I really don’t want to do it any longer.”

Ultimately, the Oscar winner became one of the world’s most recognizable actors throughout his six-decade career, thanks to iconic roles such as Lex Luthor in the Superman franchise

“[I want to be remembered] as a decent actor. As someone who tried to portray what was given to them in an honest fashion. I don’t know, beyond that,” Hackman told GQ in a 2011 profile. “I don’t think about that often, to be honest. I’m at an age where I should think about it.”

The couple performed together as part of Derek’s fall 2021 residency at the Venetian in Las Vegas, and Derek joked about getting married at one of the city’s famous little white wedding chapels during one of their first shows.

During September 26’s Derek Hough: No Limit show, the choreographer playfully proposed to his longtime love on stage. The banter between the pair began after Erbert told Derek he made a “bad dad joke” and the two laughed about not having kids together yet.
“Want to change that?” Derek asked his girlfriend, to which she replied, “You gotta put a ring on it first!” The former pro cheekily continued, “We are in Las Vegas. Hold on, there's wedding chapels and you can get divorced in the same day. This is unbelievable information that we need to look into immediately!”
The Make Your Move actor then dropped down to one knee to tie his shoes as Erbert said, “Oh, babe!” to which he responded, “I’m just playing.”

Derek got choked up while discussing Erbert’s brain surgery.
“[We were] living out our dreams on stage and doing what we love with the person that we love, and then it just all came to a screeching halt in the most devastating way,” he said in a sneak peek at a clip from a package on Dancing With the Stars season 33’s Dedication Night.
Derek recalled Erbert “having full seizures and essentially dying” backstage at his Symphony of Dance Tour in December 2023.
“It’s really hard to even put into words other than just pure fear,” he said while tearing up. “The doctor said that, ‘She might not make it and even if she does make it, she won’t be the same person.’”
