I'm jealous of my adult children because they have their whole lives ahead of them, and I don't

  • My kids are college-age, in the prime of their lives, and thriving in every way.
  • Meanwhile, I'm struggling with the woes of midlife, and I feel envious of their youth.
  • I am persistently trying to accept this and find the silver lining.

I recently found a gray hair in my eyebrow, and my heart skipped a beat.

I suppose it might be comical to those who have accepted aging and the speed at which life passes us by, but that's not me — not yet, anyway. No one ever told me that eyebrows turn gray. I suppose no one really had to. I mean, I'm sure I've seen gray eyebrows before, but I never imagined I would fall victim to this atrocity — especially not so soon.

This unexpected gray hair — just like every wrinkle, hot flash, and new joint pain — was a reminder that there was still so much I wanted to do and even more that I wish I had done already.

And just as I angrily plucked that sucker right out of its place, my daughter walked in. "Are you almost done? I need to curl my hair."

My beautiful, young daughter, Nora, is about to decide where she will attend college next fall. She is excited about prom, graduation, and her upcoming senior night for hockey. Her hair is thick and gray-less. The world is her oyster — and she doesn't even know it.

Molly is my oldest daughter. She is about to study abroad in Spain. She is dedicated to fitness, has correctly identified her deepest passions, and is pursuing them with ambition and confidence. She is one of the bravest people I know. I look at her and see nothing but a vibrant, fulfilling future. The world is her oyster, too, and she just may know it.

To be honest, I'm jealous of my daughters. They have everything ahead of them, and it feels like my life is behind me.

I often find myself envious of my daughters' youthfulness

I am so incredibly proud of my girls. They have grown into such dynamic, wonderful young women, and the world is a better place because they are in it.

If I am being honest, though, I can't help but feel a pang of envy when I observe them living their best lives. They have youth and time and their whole lives ahead of them. Sometimes, I want to warn them that before they know it, they will wake up with gray eyebrows and an ex-husband.

Other times, I find myself selfishly living vicariously through them as if their experiences are indeed my do-over at life. I often yell at them, "Show me pictures from that party last night," "Let's find a fun place for you and your friends to go dancing this weekend," or "You should major in this and not that."

I'm worried I wasted my youth

I often say I have no regrets in life, but this gray hair reminded me that I do. At times, I am desperate for a rewind button.

I wish I could go back to my teenage years and choose a different college, complete a different major, and take a new journey altogether. I dream of going back to the days when I consistently weighed 138 pounds so that I could appreciate that as skinny and fit rather than berating my young self for being "fat."

I also want to redo my love life. I want to take the wisdom I have gathered from every failed relationship. I want to say "no" to those who caused me pain and "yes" to those who had the potential to love me the right way.

I want to prioritize financial wealth because, as an 18-year-old, I naively thought my husband would take care of "all that stuff." As a result of that false belief, I now live paycheck to paycheck.

I'm finding ways to accept and appreciate my aging

Don't get me wrong, I am often happy. But at times, life is hard. What's even harder is looking into the mirror and realizing that I have lived more years than I have left.

I often wonder: Are my best years behind me? Did I take them for granted? If a genie granted me a wish, would I truly go back in time, and if so, would I cherish the gift of time more?

Of course, there is part of me (maybe a very big part) that would love to be 16 again — but I want to be 16 with the wisdom of a 46-year-old. I suppose that proves aging isn't all bad, thanks to everything I have learned.

I do know one thing, though: Today, I am the youngest I will ever be. I suppose there is a 75-year-old version of me in the future, with a full set of gray eyebrows, wishing she could be 46 again. Or perhaps my 75-year-old self will fondly remember 16 and 46 while feeling joyful to be 75, living in the present, and appreciative of all that is possible.

I think my 46-year-old self would be wise to listen to her.

Speaking to TMZ on Saturday, February 22, the couple shared that things were looking “positive” at the moment for the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum.

“Well, obviously any information about Teddi will be given out by her family but what we do know is that, we heard a little bit of good news today, which we’re really happy about and we’re sending all of our good wishes and thoughts to Teddi and her family,” Heather, 56, told the outlet.

While the couple didn’t share specifics about Mellencamp’s current condition, Terry echoed the sentiment that things are going as well as they can be, given the seriousness of the situation.

Mellencamp, 43, publicly revealed her health battle earlier this month, sharing via her Instagram that she was undergoing brain surgery after doctors found tumors.

“For the last several weeks I’ve been dealing with severe debilitating headaches,” Mellencamp, wrote on February 12. “Yesterday the pain was unbearable and required hospitalization.”

She explained that after getting a CT scan and an MRI, “Doctors found multiple tumors on my brain, which they believe have been growing for at least 6 months.”

In the post, Mellencamp added that two of the tumors were being removed in surgery that same day, while the others will be dealt with afterwards.

“The remaining smaller tumors will be dealt with via radiation at a later date,” Mellencamp wrote.

Mellencamp’s estranged husband Edwin Arroyave and their children have been by the reality TV star’s side throughout her health battle. Jennifer Love Hewitt is marking her 46th birthday by celebrating her natural beauty.

The actress reflected on ageing and self-love in a sentimental post alongside a makeup-free selfie she shared via her Instagram on Friday, February 21 to commemorate turning a year older.

“46 years old. No make up and no filter. (One of my besties hates a filter so this is for you ❤) It’s been a hard start to the year. I don’t quite feel myself. But yet I feel like maybe this is all to bring me closer to who I am meant to be,” she wrote in the caption.

Hewitt — who shares kids, Autumn, 11, Atticus, 9, and Aidan, 3, with husband Brian Hallisay — also made reference to her loved ones as she voiced her gratitude for the love surrounding her.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Reveals Her Experience With Ageism in Hollywood

“In this feeling of loss and being lost I have found a strange calm and letting go that doesn’t usually come easy to me,” she wrote. “I know that I have the greatest kids and husband ever. My brother’s hugs heal me. I feel my mom with me everyday. My friends make me want to be a better human daily.”

She continued: “I have all the things I really need and long truly for nothing other than joyful moments, continuing in the career I love, more time with friends, delicious food and to feel a shift to this year that brings clarity and hopefully the return of a little magic.”

Hewitt went on to state that society can be harsh towards women as their physical appearance inevitably changes as they get older, but countered it by explaining the benefits of ageing that she had also witnessed.

“I have experienced and seen how the world can be cruel to women as they age and yet seen the women I admire become happier, sexier and more powerful with every added number,” she wrote. “I am so deeply grateful for this life. I love all who choose to do it by my side and I am ready to give love today to the younger me and the older me because they are my ride or die’s. Sending love to all and cheers to 46! ❤

Jennifer Love Hewitt Went Through ‘A Lot No One Knew About’ in 2023

It’s not the first time Hewitt, who has graced screens since her 1990s, has been candid about her thoughts on ageing in Hollywood and the unrealistic expectations placed on women.

“I feel like fans pick this age that they love that they think represents you, and you’re never supposed to grow beyond that,” Hewitt told Fox New Digital in December 2024. “For me, it was like me and my 20s. People seem to have a really hard time accepting that I don’t look that way anymore.”

She added, “Age is age. I think women really come into this acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”

A crowd of Blue Jackets fans sang ‘happy birthday’ to Johnny Gaudreau Jr. in a touching moment in the wake of his father Johnny’s tragic death last year.

The Blue Jackets were facing off against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, February 22 at Nationwide Arena, Columbus when fans were informed during a stoppage midway through the first period that Johnny Gaudreau Jr. was celebrating his first birthday.

The arena’s video board then showed Johnny’s widow, Meredith, holding up baby Johnny Jr.

After the crowd was asked to sing the traditional birthday song, fans sang in unison while Meredith held Johnny Jr. up to soak in the emotional moment.

Johnny, 31, was killed, along with his brother Matthew, 29, in August 2024 when they were struck and killed by a driver while riding bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. The tragic incident occurred the night before their sister Katie’s wedding.

As well as wife Meredith and son Johnny Jr., Johnny was survived by his daughter Noa, 2. For his part, Matthew was survived by his wife Madeline, who later gave birth to their first child, a son named Tripp Matthew, in December 2024.

Following Johnny’s death, Meredith revealed she was nine weeks pregnant with the couple’s third child during September 2024 memorial service for the late brothers.

“We’re actually a family of five,” Meredith said at the September 9 , 2024 ceremony held at St. Mary Magdalen Parish outside Philadelphia. “I’m in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby. A total surprise, but again, John was beaming and so excited.”

Meredith added, “I was so nervous because this was, again, a total surprise. But his reaction was just immediately kissing me and hugging me even though I was driving the car. After the initial excitement sank in, every time he looked at me, he would say, ‘You’re nuts, you know that? Three kids?’”

During her speech, Meredith also vowed to keep her late husband’s legacy alive on the ice.

“John, I promise to have baby Johnny on skates soon and to be a dedicated hockey mom that drives any distance to all the tournaments,” she said. “I’ll wake up early for the games, even if that means baby Johnny shows up in Winnie the Pooh pajamas and sleeps on the bench, just like you did.”

A month later, Meredith posted a poignant tribute to her late partner, who she was married to just shy of three years prior to his death.

“John, we love you so much,” Meredith wrote via Instagram in October. “I grow more and more proud of you every single day, (I have since the day I met you) and it continues even though you are in heaven. Thank you for giving me our hockey family, our children and such a beautiful life as your wife.”

She continued: “You are and will always be my everything. I love you so much. I love you more every day. I always told you there are no words to describe my love for you. There just aren’t. ‘You know how much I love you, right?’ 🤍.”

Millie Bobby Brown Rings in 21st Birthday in Bikini

Millie Bobby Brown is celebrating her milestone 21st birthday in style.

The Stranger Things actress took to social media on Saturday, February 22, to share a series of happy snaps via her Instagram which showed her celebrations in Long Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos Islands.

Brown stunned in a bikini in a photo showing her relaxing in a hammock while reading a magazine as the ocean water glistened behind her.

Another photo featured Brown and her friends making sandcastles while yet another showed them on a boat checking out the marine life below.

Millie Bobby Brown Denies She Moved to a Farm ‘For the Aesthetic’

Brown simply captioned the post, “birthday magic ✨

The vacation destination is located between the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic and is a British Overseas Territory.

The islands are known for their surrounding turquoise blue water, pristine beaches, luxury resorts and array of activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, water sports, fishing and chartered boat rides.

Earlier this year, Brown clapped back at internet trolls who criticized her looks, claiming she appeared older than she is in reality.

“Women grow!!” she wrote in a since-expired Instagram story in January. “Not sorry about it :).”

Away from the bright lights of Hollywood and her acting career, the Enola Homes star has been embracing a more low-key lifestyle.

Brown and husband Jake Bongiovi, who she wed in May 2024, are living in on farm in Georgia, a lifestyle she’s wholeheartedly embracing.

“I’m not doing it for the aesthetic,” Brown told Vanity Fair in an interview published earlier this month. “I’m doing it because I love it.”

The actress admitted that she feels her happiest while on the farm, and regularly goes off the grid by rarely checking her phone and allowing others to handle her social media.

Brown added that she doesn’t subscribe to the “trad wife” trend — a concept that rejects being a modern feminist in favor of glorifying an old-fashioned lifestyle with a “traditional” housewife.

“There are maybe some trad wives out there doing it because it seems wholesome, but it is not,” Brown said. “If you’re not picking up horse sh— or washing a cow with your bare hands, then that life is not made for you. At all.”

Bongiovi, who is the son of musician Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea Hurley, has also embraced farm life since tying the knot in May 2024 with Brown after two years of dating.

“We were pretty united going into it,” Brown said of Bongiovi. “We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want. It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him.”
