Kaia Gerber started dating Lewis Pullman several months after she split from Austin Butler, a source exclusively tells Us Weekly.

“Kaia and Lewis have actually been together for a while now,” the insider says. “They started dating in early December [2024]. They kept it under wraps until the news of her and Austin’s split came out. Kaia and Austin have been broken up since October.”

Gerber, 23, dated Oscar nominee Butler, 33, for three years before reports swirled earlier this month that they called it quits. After the model moved on with Pullman, 32, they tried to keep their connection low-key.

“In early December, Kaia and Lewis started seriously hanging out and were seen all around L.A., but mostly on the east side,” the source adds. “Kaia would make sure to be in a hat to try and be unnoticed, but they would be at their favorite restaurants, bars and clubs, holding hands and showing PDA. They were just frequenting crowds that didn’t really know them.”

Kaia Gerber Spotted With Lewis Pullman in L.A. After Austin Butler Split

According to the source, Gerber and Pullman have “known each other for a while now.” They both grew up in Los Angeles and have famous parents. Kaia is the daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Casamigos tycoon Rande Gerber, while Lewis’ father is actor Bill Pullman.

“They run in the same circle and have similar friend groups, and that’s how they were introduced,” the insider tells Us, noting their romance is “very natural and relaxed” thus far. “Kaia likes that this relationship feels low-pressure and that Lewis is a very low-key guy.”

Kaia and Lewis were recently spotted packing on the PDA in L.A. earlier this week, with the source noting that they both seemed “beyond smitten.”

“They have a lot of chemistry and a very easygoing relationship. She’s really happy and feels like she can be herself,” the insider says. “There’s no pressure to be an A-list couple like there was in her past relationships.”

Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber’s Relationship Timeline: The Way They Were

Kaia has frequently kept details about her love life private throughout relationships with the likes of Butler and Jacob Elordi. She previously told Vogue in May 2021 that her romance with Elordi, 27, taught her new lessons about what she’s looking for in a partner.

“Being able to be with someone I trust, where we don’t want anything from each other, having a safe, steady relationship like that, has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of love and what it feels like to love without conditions,” Kaia said at the time. “Lust is touching other people or wanting them, but love is really seeing someone.”

Lewis, who previously starred in Top Gun: Maverick, last dated Andie MacDowell’s daughter Rainey Qualley in 2022.

Air ambulance service involved in Philadelphia plane crash once flew MLB icon David Ortiz after he got shot

A medical transport jet headed for Missouri and carrying a child patient and five others crashed in Northeast Philadelphia Friday night.

The jet was part of the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which provides global ambulance flight services.

It's the same service that once helped transport Boston Red Sox legend and MLB Hall of Famer David Ortiz with a critical injury after he was shot in his home country of the Dominican Republic June 9, 2019, at a bar in Santo Domingo.

Ortiz was severely wounded but survived emergency surgery.

A portion of Ortiz's intestines, colon and gallbladder were removed, and he also reportedly had liver damage. The next day, a Jet Rescue plane transported Ortiz to Boston, where he received further treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital, including a second surgery.

Ortiz was moved out of the intensive care unit on June 22, 2019, and he was released from the hospital over a month later on July 26, 2019.

The suspected shooter was later identified as Rolfi Ferreira-Cruz, but an investigation also found Ortiz was not the intended target. The Dominican Attorney General announced June 19, 2019, Ortiz was shot by mistake, and Sixto David Fernandez was identified as the intended target of the shooting.

On Friday, Jet Rescue said it's Learjet 55 crashed while departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport around 6:30 p.m.

"Our immediate concern is for the patient's family, our personnel, their families and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground," Jet Rescue Air Ambulance said in a statement.

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to react to the tragedy.

"So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. More innocent souls lost. Our people are totally engaged," Trump wrote. "First Responders are already being given credit for doing a great job. More to follow. God Bless you all."

The crash comes just days after an American Airlines passenger plane collided with an Army Black Hawk Helicopter near Reagan National Airport, killing 67 people.

Sam Altman says OpenAI will embrace two new AI approaches, one from DeepSeek and another from Meta

  • DeepSeek's powerful, cheap AI models have taken the tech world by storm.
  • Altman said OpenAI will embrace one of DeepSeek's popular approaches.
  • The CEO said OpenAI has "been on the wrong side of history" when it comes to model weights.

When rivals take a different approach and succeed, it sometimes pays to change course.

This is what Sam Altman said OpenAI will do, according to a Reddit AMA session on Friday.

The discussion touched on several AI topics, but in particular Altman was asked about DeepSeek, which has taken the tech world by storm after rolling out top-performing AI models that are relatively cheap to use.

One Reddit user asked if OpenAI could show "all of the thinking tokens." This refers to the chain of thought that new "reasoning" AI models use to break tasks into smaller steps — similar to how humans think through complex challenges.

OpenAI's o1 and o3 models use this reasoning approach, however they don't show any of the intermediate thinking steps to users, and instead just show the final answer.

DeepSeek's reasoning models, such as its R1 offering, show every step to users. When Business Insider demoed DeepSeek with the Chinese lab's DeepThink setting, it shared about 16 pages of mathematical steps before providing the correct answer to a tough question.

On Friday, Altman said OpenAI would follow DeepSeek's approach. "Yeah we are gonna show a much more helpful and detailed version of this, soon. Credit to R1 for updating us," he wrote.

Open-source and open weights

Meta chief AI scientist Yann LeCun has said the biggest takeaway from DeepSeek's success is the value of open-source AI models versus proprietary ones.

Meta's Llama models are mostly open-source, letting anyone access important details such as weights and parameters for free. Sharing the inner-workings of models like this allows other developers and many companies to customize these models for their own use.

Despite its name, OpenAI has taken a more closed approach to AI development so far. Most of its models are proprietary and the startup charges for access.

During the Reddit AMA on Friday, Altman was asked if OpenAI would consider releasing some of its model weights, and publishing some research.

"Yes, we are discussing. I personally think we have been on the wrong side of history here and need to figure out a different open source strategy; not everyone at OpenAI shares this view, and it's also not our current highest priority," Altman replied.
