Trump is "going to find a way to preserve" TikTok, aide says as ban deadline looms
President-elect Trump will move to "preserve" TikTok, said his pick for national security adviser, Rep. Michael Waltz, on Wednesday — as a potential nationwide ban looms.
The big picture: It's not immediately clear what action Trump could take if the U.S. Supreme Court were to uphold a bipartisan law that would ban the wildly popular video app owned by the Chinese company ByteDance unless it's sold to a U.S. firm.
- The justices seem inclined to uphold the law, which could take effect as soon as this Sunday.
Driving the news: Fox News' Bret Baier asked Walz in an interview Wednesday about how true a Washington Post report headlined "Trump considers executive order hoping to 'save TikTok' from ban or sale in U.S. law" was.
- "If the Supreme Court comes out with a ruling in favor of the law, President Trump has been very clear," Walz said on Fox News' "Special Report."
- "Number one, TikTok is a great platform that many Americans use, and was great for his campaign in getting his message out. But, number two, he is going to protect their data," he said.
- "We're going to find a way to preserve it but protect people's data. And that's the deal that will be in front of us."
Zoom in: Walz acknowledged there are "people out there who don't want the U.S. government seeing all their data and passwords" and we certainly don't want the Chinese government seeing all their data and passwords."
- But he said that Trump "is a dealmaker," adding: "I don't want to get ahead of our executive orders but we're going to create the space to — to put that deal in place."
Between the lines: University of Minnesota law professor Alan Rozenshtein told the Washington Post Wednesday that executive orders "are not magical documents" that would stop a ban from going into effect.
- "TikTok will still be banned, and it will still be illegal for Apple and Google to do business with them," said Rozenshtein, a former national security adviser to the Justice Department.
- "But it will make the president's intention not to enforce the law that much more official."
State of play: President Biden signed into law a bill that passed last year requiring ByteDance to either sell TikTok to an American. company or shut down operations in the U.S. by Jan. 19.
- Trump asked the Supreme Court last month to pause the TikTok ban after previously advocating for one before flip-flopping.
- During oral arguments last week, most of the Supreme Court justices focused on the fact that under the law, TikTok could continue operations if it used an algorithm other than ByteDance's and that as a Chinese company it doesn't have First Amendment rights, per Axios' Sam Baker.
What we're watching: Biden could push the ban's deadline by 90 days if ByteDance makes progress toward a divestiture by Sunday, the day before Trump's inauguration.
- Rozenshtein noted on X Wednesday that the Supreme Court's website suggests it will release an order list on Tuesday, two days after the law is due to take effect.
- "So they might let the law go into effect without actually saying anything either way," he added.

Travis Kelce Says He Is Enjoying 'All Aspects of Life' With Taylor Swift
Travis Kelce is grateful for his “very strong relationship” with girlfriend Taylor Swift.
“I’m enjoying all aspects of life that’s for damn sure,” Kelce, 35, gushed during a Wednesday, January 15, appearance on the Stephen A. Smith Show. “Me and Taylor are happy and I couldn’t be happier to have that confidence and that comfort off the field and all the support I could ever ask for in the stadium.”
Kelce and Swift, 35, have been together since summer 2023 after he attended one of her Eras Tour concerts in Kansas City armed with a DIY friendship bracelet that became synonymous with her shows. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end had hoped to give the bracelet to Swift — which featured his phone number — but was unable to meet the pop star. The three-time Super Bowl champ famously recalled the perceived rejection on his “New Heights” podcast later in July 2023.
After Swift heard Kelce’s plan while listening to the podcast episode, she privately reached out. The pair went public the following September when Swift attended her first Chiefs game.
Travis Kelce Says He’s ‘Proud’ That Taylor Swift Is His ‘Lady’
Now, Swift is a staple at Kelce’s football games. (Throughout the 2024-2025 season, she attended nearly every home game at KC’s Arrowhead Stadium.)
“I think, personally, the beauty of being in a very strong relationship is that you get that support to be able to come in and focus on your craft, focus on being the best version of you,” Kelce added on Wednesday. “That’s why I wanted to be at [her] concerts supporting her and being there for her, making sure she feels comfortable and supported in everything she’s doing in life.”
In between publicly sharing his support for Swift, Kelce asserted that he remains “focused as [he’s] ever been” on the football field.
“I’m as focused as I’ve ever been on my job and being the best player that I could possibly be week-in-week-out for this team,” he said. “It’s because I don’t have to worry about things off the field.”
Why Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's Pals Think They're a ‘Good Match’ (Source)
Kelce had a slow start to the current NFL season, which certain critics blamed on his frequent travel to see Swift perform on stage. (She wrapped her Eras Tour in December 2024, capped off with a celebratory surprise party organized by Kelce.)
“You have to be true to yourself,” he told Smith, referring to the criticism of his relationship. “People are saying things [and] you’ve got to be able to reflect and look at yourself and see, ‘Why are they saying these things?’ I was still playing at a high level knowing all that. We were winning football games, which is all I ever care about and, on top of that, this building knew how hard I worked and how much focus I have on football throughout the year.”
Kelce and the Chiefs secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC and are gearing up for the divisional round of the playoffs on Saturday, January 18, for a chance to play in the conference championship and, hopefully, the Super Bowl.
James Van Der Beek Calls Fake 'Dawson's Creek' Reunion Photo 'Cute'
James Van Der Beek is all for a Dawson’s Creek reunion — even if it’s totally fake.
Van Der Beek, 47, recently gave his stamp of approval on a series of AI-generated photos posted on social media of him and his former costars Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams.
“Merry Christmas to all with these beautiful photos of the quartet together,” the90screek fan account captioned fake reunion snaps of the cast via Instagram on December 24, 2024.
Van Der Beek discovered the images on Tuesday, January 14, replying in the comments section, “Cute!!!”

Among the AI-made photos is a group shot of Van Der Beek, Williams, 44, Holmes, 46, and Jackson, 46, huddled in front of a Christmas tree. A second photo showed the two male actors with Williams bundled up in the snow.
The holiday-themed pictures also featured Van Der Beek in a Christmas sweater smiling with Williams and standing in the snow with Holmes.
Van Der Beek starred as Dawson Leery on The WB series from 1998 to 2003. Holmes portrayed his BFF and childhood love Joey Potter, while Jackson played their other best friend and Joey’s true love, Pacey Witter. Williams, meanwhile, was the edgy Jen Lindley.
‘Dawson’s Creek’ Cast: Where Are They Now?
While the teenage drama ended more than two decades ago, the cast has reunited from time to time.
One of their most iconic reunions came in 2018 when the stars posed for Entertainment Weekly in honor of the 20th anniversary of the premiere.
“I think we’ve all sort of seen each other over the years, but not everybody all together. And never for long enough,” Holmes told the outlet at the time.
Despite their physical distance, the cast appears to have each other’s backs. When Van Der Beek announced his cancer diagnosis in November 2024, another Dawson’s Creek costar Busy Philipps showed him some love via social media.
“My wonderful friend, I’m sending you and your beautiful family all the love and prayers for your healing and complete recovery ,” Philipps, who played Joey’s college roommate Audrey Liddell on the show, wrote via Instagram.
At the time, Van Der Beek revealed that he is battling stage 3 colorectal cancer. “I’m very cautiously optimistic,” he told People in November 2024. “I’m in a place of healing; my energy levels are great.”
James Van Der Beek Reflects on ‘Tough Year’ After Cancer Diagnosis
While celebrating Thanksgiving, the actor gave an update about his “tough year” via Instagram.
“I’m thankful for all of it. For the giant life re-direct cancer has placed in my path,” Van Der Beek added. “For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends come through on such a profound level, and in ways I never would have been able to ask for had I not been going through it.”
He concluded: “I’m grateful to each and every one of you who has reached out and sent good vibes and prayers. It all lands and makes a difference.”

Heidi Klum, 51, Stuns in Cheeky Thong Bikini With Her Husband in St. Barts
Heidi Klum appears to be aging in reverse.
Klum, 51, showcased her bombshell body in a string bikini with cheeky bottoms while vacationing in St. Barts with her husband, Tom Kaulitz. The German couple, married since 2019, appeared deeply in love, holding hands and cuddling on the beach.
Klum’s barely-there two-piece highlighted her preternaturally toned physique, while Kaulitz, 35, a guitarist for Tokio Hotel, lounged in bandana-print swim trunks — a retro trend that’s been making a major comeback.
The supermodel beamed at her husband as they chatted and strolled hand-in-hand into the shallows. Later, she donned a pajama-like printed blouse and trousers, accessorized with a straw hat and Gucci shawl, to warm up.
Heidi Klum Goes Topless During Beach Trip With Husband Tom Kaulitz
Klum, who has four children (Leni, 20; Henry, 19; Johan, 18; and Lou, 15) with ex-husband Seal (who also adopted Leni, whose biological father is Flavio Briatore), has openly addressed her and Kaulitz’s 16-year age gap.
“I’m 50 and no longer 20. I’m not a young girl who hasn’t experienced anything yet or has no idea about life,” she has said. “Time won’t stand still for me and Tom will never catch up with me. I’ll always be 16 years older, and I’m aware of that.”
Klum continued: “’I know that I will look older than him sooner. Maybe it will be a problem for me in 10 years’ time, maybe he won’t like it then,” the Teutonic blonde shared. “In 20 years, I’ll be 70. I usually plan for the future – but with my husband, I live in the here and now.”
Klum has also faced criticism for posing in lingerie shoots for Intimissimi with her lookalike daughter Leni, who has followed in her mother’s modeling footsteps. For her part, Klum shared her unabashed delight in seeing her mini-mes wear her vintage clothing.

“I get so excited when I see my daughters re-wearing my clothes,” Klum told People while attending Prince William‘s Earthshot Prize Awards in Cape Town in November 2024.

Jana Duggar and Stephen Wissmann’s Relationship Timeline
Jana Duggar couldn’t always count on finding her forever husband.
For nearly 12 years, the reality star allowed cameras to document her life on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting and the spinoff Counting On. During the show, Duggar witnessed her sisters fall in love, leaving her wondering when her time would come.
“I’m just like, ‘What is it? Is it me? Do I have a problem?’ I know I’ve prayed for this for years and years and definitely been like, ‘What’s the matter,’” she shared with People in August 2024. “All of my siblings, most of them have been married in their early 20s. By far, I am the oldest. So it has been disheartening at times.”
Little did Duggar know that something special was brewing with longtime family friend Stephen Wissmann.
Duggar Family's Courtship Beginnings: How Each Couple Met
While their romance wasn’t exactly love at first sight, the pair reconnected in early 2024, fell in love and experienced a fairytale summer wedding.
“Just to see it coming about is incredible and kind of hard to believe,” Duggar told People days before her August 2024 nuptials. “It’s a dream come true.”
Keep reading to learn more about Duggar’s journey to finding love with her forever partner Wissmann:
2011
Wissmann — who lives in Nebraska with his parents and siblings — first connected with Duggar through their families when they were teenagers.
“[The Wissmann’s] would travel and sing,” Duggar recalled to People in 2024. “I remember them coming to our home, probably 13 or so years ago and they ended up getting snowed-in here, which hardly ever happens in Arkansas. I remember just playing games late into the night, doing puzzles together until the snow melted off, and they were able to travel back home. I don’t really remember Stephen that well because I’m older than him and so he was not at all on my radar.”
A Look Back at Jana Duggar’s Most Empowering Quotes About Being Single
2020-2022
In a 2024 interview with People, Duggar revealed she briefly dated Wissmann a few years ago before going their separate ways. Despite the breakup, the pair remained in touch and “talked to each other on and off over the years.” In March 2022, Duggar’s brother Jeremiah Duggar married Wissmann’s sister Hannah.
Early 2024
In the early months of 2024, both Jana and Stephen reconnected once again and decided to take their relationship more seriously. “It was like, ‘What are we doing? We still enjoy each other. We still really appreciate each other,’ ” she recalled to People. “I had been a slower mover on it, but just over time, his character, his coming back, still loving me no matter what. I know we have a big crazy family and still kind of putting up with a lot of things. I’m like, my goodness, there are not too many people that do that. He must really, genuinely care about me.”
June 2024
Although the pair never publicly commented on their courtship, they managed to secretly get engaged on June 15, 2024. One month later, fans speculated that Jana was engaged when she posted a series of Instagram photos with a ring on her left hand.

How Danielle Fishel Still Uses What 'Boy Meets World' Taught Her
Danielle Fishel grew up in the spotlight as a child actor on Boy Meets World, and her experience on the show taught her exactly what to do — and what to avoid — when it comes to directing young stars like the ones on Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
“One thing I try to pivot away from that we did a lot on Boy Meets World [is] super fast paced dialogue,” Fishel, 43, exclusively told Us Weekly while discussing her role as director on Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’s inaugural season. “There were a lot of scenes where the people talking to each other were rapid firing things. And depending on what’s being said, that timing could increase the funny, but it also gives the idea that no one’s really listening to the other person.”
Fishel noted that being a good actor is “all about listening to your scene partner” and “letting what they’ve said affect you in some way”— something she feels didn’t always occur on her hit ‘90s sitcom. Now, it’s something she tries to “shy away from” when helming her own episodes.
“I want my actors to feel like they’re living in a reality,” she explained. “Even if that reality involves magic, it is the reality for their character. And so I try to ground people as much as possible.”
Selena Gomez, David Henrie Gave the New 'Wizards' Cast Important Advice
Fishel made a name for herself by starring as beloved character Topanga Lawrence on all seven seasons of Boy Meets World, which ran from 1993 to 2000. While growing up on the ABC series inevitably taught her the “donts” of making successful TV, it also helped her discover the “dos.”
“I definitely try to incorporate some movement. It can be kind of difficult in a show where you’ve got a lot of characters in one set and everyone has to talk to each other,” she said, adding that “finding natural and organic places for people to cross and move” also presents a challenge.
“And one of the things I think we did pretty well on Boy Meets World were the crosses our actors made felt organic,” she continued “They didn’t feel like, ‘Well, why did they just do that?’”
Fishel preps for incorporating movement by blocking episodes in her “mind” ahead of shooting before walking her cast through the paces. In the end, however, she says that an actor is always the “expert” in their character — and she is open to feedback, always.
“If something I’m telling you to do doesn’t feel good for you or doesn’t feel natural for you, I want you to tell me and let’s come up with something else,” she told Us. “You make a suggestion, ‘Let’s try it. This is a safe space and let’s just find the best way to do it.’ And it’s worked very well for me thus far.”
That open communication is something that carries over when approaching any of the younger cast members on her set, especially when it involves giving notes. Fishel understands all too well the feeling of “all eyes” being on her, and doesn’t want that sensation to seep into the actors she’s directing.
“I think one of the really important things is having conversations with each kid, and not in front of everybody,” she explained. “When you’re rehearsing you’re on a set and everyone is standing around — there are crew members, the parents of the children are there, or their guardians; whoever’s there watching them that day. And when you are giving notes and you’re trying to make a scene better, sometimes it can feel like, ‘Everybody’s eyes are on me and I was just given a note.’ And I never want them to think that if I’ve given them a note, it’s that I’m correcting something they’ve done.”
Fishel added that there is “no right or wrong” approach to acting, just “different approaches” about what to try and what risks to take. “And so when I can tell that an actor is maybe feeling a little insecure or needs a bit of a pep talk for whatever reason,” she told Us, “I will ask the parent or guardian and that actor to step aside where nobody can really see us and just have a one-on-one conversation where [I say], ‘Tell me what’s going on for you.’”
Fishel’s directing career kicked off in 2014 with the BMW revival series, Girl Meets World. While she reprised her role as Topanga for the Disney series, she also stepped behind the camera for the first time. It’s there she realized that her “maternal instincts” were strong — stars Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter felt “very much like my kids,” she told Us — but it wasn’t until she became a mother herself that her approach to directing changed entirely. (Fishel shares sons Adler, 5, and Keaton, 3, with husband Jensen Karp.)
“I know from seeing my own kids and seeing their vulnerabilities that every kid, even when they are the star of their own TV show, is dealing with their own insecurities and is having self-doubt,” she shared. “And if I can just come in and be a person who encourages them and makes them feel like, one, they learn something throughout the week or [two], possibly have a better understanding of what they do or why they do it and that they had a good time and would like to do it again, then I feel like I’ve succeeded in my job.”
Fishel has since directed countless episodes of popular TV series’ like Raven’s Home, Sydney to the Max and Lopez vs. Lopez. Her debut on Wizards Beyond Waverly Place — a revival of the hit from the early 2000s — airs on Disney Channel this month. The episode, titled “Potions Eleven” follows teen wizard Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) as she enters mentor Justin Russo’s (David Henry) mind to figure out what really happened to get him fired from being a professor at WizTech years earlier.
The plot line carries over from the OG series’ finale — which starred Henry alongside Selena Gomez, who also reprises her role as Alex Russo — and unveils a secret fans have been curious about since the show’s pilot. That pressure was not lost on Fishel.
Danielle Fishel Doubled ‘Boy Meets World’ Salary — But Was Still Underpaid
“The biggest challenge was just overcoming my own fear that I was gonna let anybody down,” she explained, noting that the Wizards franchise is “so special” and “so meaningful” to fans. “The unicorn incident is a big [story] — it’s a big episode — and having it be in my hands was a little nerve wracking.”
Luckily, everyone on set made Fishel feel “comfortable” — especially fellow former child actor Henry, 35, who is also a producer on the series.
“David Henry is so amazing, and the minute I got on set with him I saw what he was capable of doing, both with the, like, more heartfelt, vulnerable moments and the over-the-top wacky physical comedy. He can really do it all,” she gushed. “And so once I got in there and I saw what this entire cast was capable of, I was like, ‘Oh, there’s no failing here. There’s only success.’”
New episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place air on Disney Channel Fridays at 8 p.m. ET.

Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough’s Relationship Timeline
The late Lisa Marie Presley and ex-husband Danny Keough’s whirlwind romance continued to make headlines years after their split.
After first meeting in 1985, Presley and Keough exchanged vows in October 1988. The couple welcomed daughter Riley Keough and son Benjamin Keough in 1989 and 1992, respectively. (Benjamin died by suicide at age 27 in July 2020.)
Two years later, in 1994, Danny and the only daughter of Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley called it quits. Despite their split, the pair remained close through the years.
“Their life was very simple,” Riley said of her parents during a January 2025 episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “Not with the press and the craziness. But in terms of at home, she didn’t have ten million assistants. She didn’t need all of that. And I think that changed.”
Following their split, Lisa Marie moved on with Michael Jackson. The twosome secretly tied the knot less than three weeks after her divorce from Danny was finalized. (After her divorce from Jackson in 1996, Lisa Marie was married to Nicolas Cage from 2002 to 2004 and to Michael Lockwood from 2006 to 2021. Lisa Marie and Lockwood welcomed twins Harper and Finley in 2008.)

2003
Following their split, Lisa Marie and Danny remained close. “The smartest thing I’ve ever done is have children with this man because I knew this is the one man I could be connected to for the rest of my life,” Lisa Marie said during a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone.
2005
Lisa Marie told People in 2005 that her relationship with Danny was “like brother and sister.”
“Ultimately this is a good message to send out to people: You don’t have to put your crap on your kids even if you are not together. You can still be civilized,” she said at the time. “I knew at the age that I had the kids with him that Danny was someone I could be connected with for the rest of my life. I knew he would be a good father.”

In Lisa Marie’s memoir, published posthumously, she revealed that she regretted getting an abortion during her relationship with Danny.
“I’d never gotten pregnant with any other person, which is fascinating because I’d been equally as sloppy, not using birth control or whatever,” Lisa Marie wrote. “With Danny it happened the first time, and then it happened again when we got back together.”
Lisa Marie recalled not knowing about her first pregnancy for four months. She went to the hospital after experiencing “horrible pains.” According to Lisa Marie, doctors initially thought it was her appendix. “They had rushed me into surgery,” she wrote. “When I came around, they told me I’d had an ectopic pregnancy.”
With her second pregnancy, Lisa Marie and Danny “didn’t know what to do” so she had an abortion. She wrote, “It was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. I was devastated. I did it and we both cried. We were both destroyed and not long after that we fell apart and broke up. I couldn’t live with myself.”
Lisa Marie Presley's Dating History
The pair ultimately reconciled. “I planned and I plotted and I schemed,” Lisa Marie wrote, noting that she knew “exactly” when she was ovulating and went to visit Danny. “I remember getting back on the ship hoping I’d f—ing done it.”
Lisa Marie admitted she “didn’t really mean” to trap Danny, while Riley wrote in her portion of the book that her mom “absolutely meant to trap my dad.” (Riley finished From Here to the Great Unknown following Lisa Marie’s death at age 54 in January 2023.)
Both Lisa Marie and Riley claimed there were “multiple attempts” from Priscilla to stop Danny from being a part of their lives. “It felt like me and Danny against everybody,” Lisa Marie recalled.
2025
Riley shared details of her dynamics with her parents during an episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “There were just not a lot of boundaries. It was very, like, everyone knew everything about everybody. If I was breaking up with a boyfriend, she was involved,” Riley said of her mom. “Everyone, my brother, my dad. We’re very enmeshed, I think.”
Every Tarte Influencer Trip Controversy: Drama, Unfair Room Sizes, More
#TrippingWithTarte: We know it, we love it and we (sometimes) raise our eyebrows at it.
If you’re anything like Us, you’ve been following Tarte influencer trips for years. From makeup gurus posting content from Turks and Caicos and Alix Earle bringing her mom on the brand’s Dubai trip to Ken Eurich and Brianna “Chickenfry” LaPaglia squashing their beef in the British Virgin Islands, the getaways are filled with drama, fun activities and more.
Tarte had their most recent brand trip in January 2025, where Eurich and LaPaglia became friends again, and JaNa Craig, Mei Mei Monstaa and more partied on the sandy beaches of Neckter Island, played tennis and created tons of content.
Some fans were upset to see the influencers partying while the greater Los Angeles wildfires spread, and shared their thoughts via social media.
The Messiest 'Real Housewives' Girls Trips in Bravo History
“Tarte never fails to make me roll my eyes anymore lol, their brand trips always leave a bad taste in my mouth but especially now sending all these influencers to this lavish private island while people are losing their homes and loved ones,” one person wrote via X.
Aware of the sensitive situation, Tarte donated $250,000 to Wold Central Kitchen to aid in the fires, as well as donated their proceeds from January 8 through January 11 to the non-profit.
They also donated $10,000 to the Los Angeles Department, as well as another $10,000 to California Wildfire Response Fund for wildlife rescue as the girls enjoyed a game of Neon Beach Olympics.
From friendships forming — and breaking — to unfair hotel room sizes, keep scrolling to see all the controversies that have happened on Tarte trips.
Influencers Spreading Rumors About Each Other
Tana Mongeua and Brooke Schofield shared that they planned to spread a fake rumor about someone on their Bora Bora Tarte trip until a tropical storm canceled the outing.
After “campaigning” for herself to go on a Tarte trip for “years,” Schofield had the idea to start “the most out of pocket rumor” and test how long it took for the girls on the trip to air it out on social media.
“We devised this evil plan for our live shows,” Mongeua explained. “If you guys have ever seen these trips you know how it goes. Rumors get spread, drama gets started, s— blows up on the internet.”
Schofield added, “We were like, ‘What kind of drama should we stir up on this trip?’” Although they didn’t have a chance to create a rumor about one of the travelers, there still has been a lot of other drama that went down before influencers.
Brianna Chickenfry and Kennedy Eurich Drama
During an episode of her “Dumber Blonde” podcast, Eurich called LaPaglia out for being mean to her on a previous press trip.
“I get the email about the Tarte trip,” Eurich said, referencing the January 2025 trip she took to Neckter Island, the British Virgin Islands.
After her manager told Tarte that Eurich was “down” to go and asked for a guest list, the cosmetics team asked her to hop on a phone call, making the TikTok star suspicious about who else was attending.
“I have a feeling it’s gonna be about: someone Kennedy doesn’t work well with is going.” On the call, Eurich found out that LaPaglia was also invited. “Here’s the thing,” she said. “If Brianna Chickenfry would have just said, ‘Hey girl, sorry I probably was a bitch to you, I would have been like, ‘Girl, you are so good.’”
Name ’Em! The Most Iconic ‘Real Housewives’ Quotes of 2023
“Who knows?” she continued. “Maybe she’ll apologize on this trip and the world will be sunshine and rainbows and buttieflies but she doesn’t give me the vibe of a bitch who would apologize.”
Eurich posted the podcast clip to her TikTok account on Monday, January 13, as she was still vacationing with LaPaglia. In response, LaPaglia took to TikTok on Tuesday, January 14, to share a clip of her and Eurich telling fans they “squashed” their beef.
“It was squashed,” Eurich said, as LaPaglia admitted, “Ok listen, I was a c—.”
Eurich then replied, “No, I was a c—. We were both c—s.” LaPaglia suggested that they might “butt heads a lot” because of how similar their personalities are, and tested a vlog coming soon.
Unequal Hotel Room Sizes
Tarte caught heat in April 2023 when influencer Sri Lankan shared a room tour with her followers during the brand’s Turks and Caicos getaway.
Fans noticed that Lankan’s room was not nearly as nice as Meredith Duxbury’s, who had a beach-front view, a walk-in shower, two balconies, a vanity and more.
Lankan later addressed fans’ comments after returning from the trip, agreeing that her room was “way too small.”
“I’m a brown minority creator and a lot of the time I get the short end of the stick,” she said. “I hope people will understand it was never about the size of the room, it was about getting treated equally to my counterparts.” Lankan noted that she talked to the Tarte team and they explained that some of the rooms were assigned while others were picked out randomly.
PR Gifts
Not all gifts are created equal when it comes from Tarte. After a number of influencers including Halle Kate and Olivia Boblet, Lauren Wolfe received $700 Mini Hermès Kelly bracelets in a PR gift in September 2024, other creators shared via social media that they received a similar package from Tarte but with a $30 necklace replacing the designer accessory. Eurich was in the batch who received the Every Jewels name necklace, and took to TikTok to discuss the matter.
“They’re picking favorites and this is f—ed up,” she said. “Ya’ll are on my s— list for that. That’s sick and it’s twisted.”
Tarte later made it up to Eurich during their Neckter Island trip when the brand’s CEO and founder Maureen Kelly gifted the beauty guru an Hermès scarf and mini Kelly bracelet.
“Better late than never!” Kelly said in the clip.
How Much Do the Trips Cost?
With luxurious locations and five-star hotels such as Dubai, Bora Bora, Greece, Hawaii, Turks and Caicos and more, fans have wondered how much the influencer trips cost the brand, as they watch guests enjoy spa days, photoshoots, snorkeling, jet skiing and more. TikTok user Jill Justine, who claimed she used to manage the influencer trips, put fans’ minds at ease while she explained the vacations were “a lot more affordable [for the brand] than you think.”
“Most of the time, all of those things were free because we were partnering with the hotels, with the event, with the experience, because all of them are getting exposure as well,” she said.
“Honestly, the only thing we didn’t get for free sometimes were the flights,” she continued. “And even then, sometimes we would partner with the airlines and get those for free too.”
What is Tarte getting out of the trips?
Tarte benefits from their lavish trips by networking with influencers and being able to share content with their millions of followers.
Breaking Down the Pettiest Scandals — and Feuds — of 2024
Kelly told Forbes in February 2024, “We believe that our investment in relationships has been mutually advantageous. We get to know our amazing influencers and appreciate their individual perspectives, they get a fun, relaxing experience and they get to know Tarte. She continued, “To us, this is far more valuable in the long term vs a one-off media campaign like a multi-million dollar Super Bowl commercial.”
Kelly also shared that “in the beginning we just couldn’t afford to take any other approach.” She added, “We had to be resourceful — we connected with influential people and media outlets and allowed them to discover and fall in love with the brand and products at their own pace and on their own terms.”

The Pentagon says US troops' pay is 'strongly competitive' compared to the private sector
- A new Pentagon report said its troops earn more than most of their full-time civilian counterparts.
- It said that after one year of service, the top 70th percentile of enlisted earners get about $1,000 a week.
- But that figure includes far more than base pay, which Congress recently voted to raise significantly.
A Pentagon report said its troops often earn more than their civilian counterparts and would stand to lose out if they were to leave the service.
"Our military compensation package is strongly competitive with the civilian labor market," it wrote in its review for military compensation, which is released every four years.
The report comes just a month after Congress voted to raise basic pay for US troops by 4.5% across the board, citing concerns about recruitment difficulties and food insecurity among soldiers. Junior enlisted troops, who hold rank equivalents of E-1 to E-4, received an even bigger raise of 14.5%.
Many of these troops were earning less than $30,000 a year in basic pay, and the bill passed in December aimed to raise their salaries to that level.
However, the Pentagon uses a different metric that extends beyond basic pay, which it calls regular military compensation. This includes benefits such as tax advantages and housing and food allowances.
By that measure, the Defense Department's new report found that "military pay among Junior Enlisted Personnel is higher than 90th percentile of earnings for civilians with similar education and experience."
"Basic pay is a blunt and costly instrument," the report said. "And should be used only when there are system-wide problems, such as widespread retention and recruiting shortfalls, which cannot be solved more efficiently with other policy instruments."
Its findings relied largely on a benchmark that compared two things: the 70th percentile of compensation for enlisted soldiers and the 70th percentile earnings for full-time civilian workers with the same education.
The report said that for enlisted soldiers with one year of service, the top 70th percentile received about $1,000 a week in regular military compensation.
Meanwhile, the report listed the 70th percentile of civilian earners as needing 10 years of work experience to get $1,000 a week.
The Pentagon said that for enlisted soldiers with 10 years of service, the top 70th percentile of earners gets $1,500 a week.
On the other hand, the 70th percentile of officer earnings stands at $1,500 a week for those with one year of service, going up to nearly $2,500 a week for those with 10 years of service.
It compared those earnings to the 70th percentile of civilians with college degrees, whom the report said consistently earn about $200 to $300 less a week.
Overall, the report said that enlisted personnel earn more than 83 out of 100 civilian workers with the same education and experience, and officers earn more than 76 out of 100 civilian workers with the same background.
The Pentagon mostly recommended "quality-of-life" improvements instead of a pay bump. It asked the military to look more into expanding its retirement savings programs, providing better childcare access for serving parents, and asking its personnel to move less often to avoid hurting the careers of soldiers' spouses.
In its budget overview for the 2025 financial year ending September 30, the Defense Department said troop pay and benefits make up about 30% of its total budget request for $850 billion.
In the new report, the Pentagon said its current pay structure is mostly working.
"Recent retention is strong, recruiting has significantly improved, and favorable comparisons between military and civilian pay suggests that levels of basic pay are more than adequate," it said.
