How Patrick Mahomes Passed Time as Wife Brittany Prepared to Give Birth

After announcing the birth of their third child, star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes shared some insight into how he passed the time at the hospital.

Just after the start of the new year, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes welcomed their second daughter, Golden Raye, into the world on Sunday, January 12.

According to Sports Illustrated, Patrick revealed during a press conference that he managed to sneak in some playoff prep as Brittany prepared for birth.

“I’m just supporting, you know. Brittany crushed it. It’s been cool to welcome another baby girl in our family and see how my other kids react to her,” Patrick said.

“It was cool that football was on TV when I was in the hospital, so I got to watch a little bit,” he revealed.

Patrick and Brittany are also parents to 3-year-old Sterling Skye and 2-year-old Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.

Patrick was able to be present for the birth of this third child after the Chiefs clinched the top seed in the AFC, giving them a bye the first round of the playoffs.

“It was cool that we got the bye,” he told reporters, according to KSBY, “just cause you can kind of really focus in on just being at the hospital and being in the moment.”

Brittany Mahomes Says Patrick Is ‘Keeping His Promises’ After Chiefs Win

“It’s a special moment that a lot of dads and moms have experienced, and you don’t forget about that stuff. So I was glad I was able to be there and support in the best way I can.”

After Chiefs head coach Andy Reid joked that “once you have three, four and five are easy,” Patrick, who Reid described as a “great” father, said he is “good with three for right now.”

The Best Denim-on-Denim Looks of All Time: Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, More

Denim-on-denim is so back.

The head-to-toe jean look became iconic in 2001 when Britney Spears and her ex Justin Timberlake commanded attention at the American Music Awards. Spears, for her part, wore a strapless jean dress featuring a patchwork A-line skirt. She added just the right amount of sparkle to her look with a chunky crystal choker and chain belt.

Timberlake, meanwhile, rocked a Canadian tuxedo designed by Levi’s and Jezebel equipped with faded fabric. He teamed the look with a denim hat, tan sunglasses and a silver necklace.

In Fall 2024, the trend came back strong with stars including Heidi Klum, Ashley Park, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, Tyla, Tayshia Adams and more wearing the fad.

Swift nailed the trend while cheering on her boyfriend Travis Kelce in a Versace corset top and shorts at a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2024. At the time, she elevated her look with thigh-high maroon Giuseppe Zanotti boots and a Louis Vuitton purse.

Brooke Shields: It Would've 'Been a Disaster’ Having Kids With Andre Agassi

Brooke Shields Says It Would Have Been a Disaster Having a Baby With Ex
Taylor Hill/Getty Images

Brooke Shields never had a baby with her ex-husband, Andre Agassi — a decision she says turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

“I’m glad I never got pregnant with my first husband because it would have been a disaster,” Shields, 59, wrote in her latest memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, published on Tuesday, January 14. “When we got divorced he made that very clear.”

Shields claimed in her book that Agassi, 54, told her to “be thankful we didn’t have children” when they split “because I would not have made this easy for you.”

“Well, thank you for that tidbit, I thought,” Shields quipped in the memoir. “You just made this particular transition much easier!”

Brooke Shields Says It ‘Felt Good’ to Be Less Famous Than Ex Andre Agassi

Shields was married to Agassi from 1997 to 1999 and spoke at length about their tumultuous relationship referencing it on multiple occasions in this book. (Agassi, a former professional tennis player, has been married to Steffi Graf since 2001.)

“One of the reasons I married Andre was that I liked being in a relationship with someone more famous than I was,” Shields explained elsewhere in the memoir. “After a lifetime of always being the focus, it was a relief to be able to slink into the background a bit. He was a gallant guy, too, and I loved that.”

On the other hand, Shields called her marriage a “controlling, rigid relationship” and shared a discussion she had with Agassi about her body.

“When I would profess my insecurities to my first husband, he would always say, ‘I wish you could see yourself the way I see you.’ However, when I said, ‘Will you still love me if I’m big and fat?’ I could never have expected his response,” Shields wrote, noting that she was referring to herself as a pregnant woman.

Agassi’s reply, according to Shields, was: “I love you too much to let you get big and fat!”

Shields acknowledged that this was “an unfair question” to ask but she “definitely did not” anticipate that reply.

“I started to spin a bit,” she continued. “But we all know how that relationship turned out, so let’s move on.”

Zero Love? Brooke Shields Slams Ex Andre Agassi on Today Show

Following their divorce, Shields moved on with Chris Henchy. She met Henchy in 1999 “at the gym on the Warner Bros. lot” while she was still married to Agassi.

“We became friendly because we’d see each other at that gym from time to time — I was working on Suddenly Susan, he was writing for a show on the lot — but we didn’t start to date until the following year, after I’d gotten divorced,” she wrote.

Shields and Henchy married in 2001 and share two daughters, Rowan, 21, and Grier, 18.

Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old is out now.

Growing number of military veterans committing extremist crimes, research shows

Pete Hegseth, President-elect Trump's pick for Defense secretary, on Tuesday called the problem of extremism in the military "fake," but researchers warn there's a growing trend of military-linked terrorism.

The big picture: The rising number of people with military backgrounds engaging in domestic terrorism over the past three decades can partially be attributed to the difficulty transitioning from active duty to veteran status and a lack of community or purpose, experts say.

Driving the news: In the most recent high-profile cases, the New Year's Day attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas were both carried out by Army veterans.

Zoom in: The FBI said Tuesday the suspect in the deadly New Orleans vehicle attack, Shamsud-Din Jabbar had been isolating himself from society and began following extremist views last year.

  • Investigators believe the 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran was "radicalized online" and he "appears to have been inspired — from afar — by ISIS," retiring FBI Director Christopher Wray told CBS' "60 Minutes" in an interview broadcast Sunday.
  • The Vegas suspect, Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, from Colorado Springs, was an active-duty U.S. Army soldier on approved leave when he died inside a Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in the city, officials said.
  • However, Hegseth said during his Senate confirmation hearing Tuesday that the Pentagon overreacted in attempting to combat extremism and characterized it as "peddling the lie of racism in the military."
  • He added that efforts to weed out extremism pushed "rank-and-file patriots out of their formations."

By the numbers: A December report from the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism found that from 1990 to 2023, 730 individuals with U.S. military backgrounds had committed criminal acts that were motivated by their political, economic, social or religious goals.

  • There has been an incline in the past decade or so: From 1990-2010, an average of 7.1 people per year with U.S. military backgrounds committed extremist crimes. Since 2011, that number has grown to 44.6 per year.
  • Some 84% were no longer serving in the military when they committed extremist crimes, per the report.

Zoom out: The National Institute of Justice said in analysis last year that people who encounter difficulties leaving the military may be attracted to the pull of domestic extremist groups.

  • This is possibly because they can be introduced to additional combinations of risk factors for radicalization, according to Jeffrey Gruenewald, professor and director of the Terrorism Research Center at the University of Arkansas. These include a lack of purpose, social alienation or struggles with mental health.
  • "Knowing this, terrorist groups may target individuals with military experience, as the ideologies underlying violent extremism have something to offer them, including a clear enemy to direct their anger, a sense of belonging and meaning, and a purpose bigger than themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, extremist groups are increasing recruiting online and specifically targeting veterans, Heidi Beirich, chief strategy officer and co-founder of Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, told PBS.

  • The military has "not done a good job of rooting out extremism in its ranks in recent years," she added.

Yes, but: There isn't a single factor or profile that's predictive of radicalization to violence, Gruenewald told Axios.

  • "Nonetheless, it is feasible that military experience for some can increase or exacerbate risk factors associated with radicalization to violence," he said.
  • Being in the military may increase a person's chances of experiencing a significant personal loss, trauma, or feelings of social isolation and alienation, Gruenewald said.
  • It could also exacerbate struggles with identity, mental health and grievances, he added.

Situation report: The Defense Department said in a 2021 report that it "has long prohibited Service members from actively engaging in extremist activities" but after a number of threat attacks, it built a program to "detect, deter, and mitigate such threats."

  • This included efforts to combat extremist groups from recruiting military personnel and veterans.
  • Defense Department spokesperson Sue Gough said even a single incident in which those in the military commit prohibited extremist activities "can have an outsized impact on the Department and its mission."
  • She added in her email: "There is no place for prohibited extremist activities in the Department of Defense. Every attempt is made to ensure such behavior is promptly and appropriately addressed and reported to the authorities."

The bottom line: People with U.S. military backgrounds represent only 14.7% of the broader set of extremists who have committed criminal offenses in the United States since 1990, the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism report found.

  • "The problem is that somebody who has military training who gets radicalized can be far more deadly," Beirich said.
  • "Mass attacks that are perpetrated by active-duty military or veterans are more lethal than those that aren't."

Flags to fly at full-staff for inauguration after Trump's complaints

Flags at the U.S. Capitol will fly at full-staff during President-elect Trump's inauguration despite President Biden's directive that they remain at half-staff through January to honor former President Carter's death.

Why it matters: House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and some Republican governors are promising to fly flags at full-staff Monday after Trump repeatedly complained about them being lowered for his swearing in.

Driving the news: Johnson announced Tuesday that flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff for the inauguration and then return to half-staff the next day in honor of Carter.

Zoom out: An increasing number of Republican governors have ordered that flags at state buildings be flown at full-staff on Inauguration Day.

  • These include Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds.
  • Some cited a federal statute that calls for the flag to be displayed 24 hours a day on certain occasions for "patriotic effect," instead of from sunrise to sunset.
  • "While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America," Abbott's announcement said.

Between the lines: Flags at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club returned to full-staff days after Carter was buried in Plains, Georgia, AP reported.

  • Trump took to Truth Social in early January to complain: "The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my inauguration," he wrote, incorrectly using the term to refer to a flag on a ship.
  • "Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it," he added. "Let's see how it plays out."

Love Jennifer Lopez's Comfy $690 Sneakers? Get the Look for $34

If we’re ever going to get Jennifer Lopez’s style . . . we’re going to have to recreate it. The mega movie and music star is always dressed head-to-toe in designer and if we had her budget, we honestly would too. But for now we don’t, which is why recreated her designer sneaker look — and the style is just $37.

The This Is Me… Now: A Love Story star was spotted in December in some designer shoes we haven’t stopped thinking about since. Shopping at the Brentwood Country Mart is Los Angeles, California, the singer nailed a casual day slay, wearing a Coach herringbone coat, a black Hermès Kelly croc bag, some silver hoop earrings from Jennifer Fisher and oversized dior shades.

She must’ve known she’d be doing a lot of walking, seeing that she reached for the Chloe Kick sneakers, which are a sleek and comfy tennis shoe style. Like with most things J.Lo wears, the shoes were an expensive buy (per our standards), coming in at $690. And since we could use a casual kick style for ourselves, we searched the internet to find a similar version and landed on this $34 style on Amazon.

15 Everyday Dresses to Look Rich This New Year — Our Favorites Under $50 on Amazon

So, the Belos Lightweight Casual Retro Tennis Shoes aren’t an exact lookalike . . . but they’re close enough to Us! They still have that rich-looking, upscale aesthetic, made with a similar mesh woven upper. They also have a similar neutral color combination, lace-up closure and slip on design.

Of course, the shoes have their differences too. Unlikes the singer’s pick, the shoes are made with a thick rubber sole, which allows for greater traction and shock absorption. They also feature an exposed knit detail around the bottom, which provides added visual interest. You could keep the neutral aesthetic going like Lopez with their cream option, or switch it up with something different. Find them in several color options like multi, gold and black and sizes 5 to 11 too.

Proving that these shoes are worth a buy is their fan base of Amazon shoppers of whom over 1,600 have given a five-star rating.

They’re “a show stopper,” one buyer exclaimed. After having several people give her compliments on them, the reviewer said that they’re an “ amazing addition” to their collection.

“Not only do they look amazing, they are also very, very comfortable, [are] true to size and are] very well made,” they said.

17 Hamptons-Chic Sweaters for That East Coast Rich Mom Look

Lopez’s outfit is a template for how the shoes can be worn for running a few errands, while thrown with some jeans, a t-shirt and your favorite winter coat. They can be styled way beyond just that though. They can go with leggings and sweater outfits for spring travels, and will even be able to go with dresses and skirts once the spring rolls around. They’re not meant for anything drastic like a hike, but they’ll certainly make you look stylish while walking miles.

Maybe one day ( when we win the lottery), we’ll be able to buy Lopez’s actual designer shoe picks. But for now, these make a fantastic lookalike in our closet and our wallets will be singing about them too.

Sunny Hostin’s Husband Emmanuel Named in Lawsuit: Everything We Know

Sunny Hostins Husband Emmanuel Named in Lawsuit Everything We Know
Sunny Hostin and Dr. Emmanuel Hostin Joy Malone/Getty Images

Sunny Hostin’s husband, Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, made headlines after he was named in an insurance fraud lawsuit.

According to legal documents viewed by Us Weekly on January 7, 2025, Emmanuel is one of almost 200 defendants included in a lawsuit filed with the New York Eastern District Court.

The orthopedic surgeon, based in New York, is accused of federal insurance fraud and “getting kickbacks by performing surgery and … billing a company that insured taxi companies and Uber and Lyft drivers,” as reported by the Daily Mail.

Emmanuel’s attorney has denied all the allegations on behalf of his client.

Sunny Hostin and Husband Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Hostin's Relationship Timeline

In addition, Sunny has defended her husband and claims that the plaintiff, American Transit, an insurance group that primarily works with ride-share drivers, has “a history of filing frivolous claims.”

Keep reading for an overview of the ongoing case:

Who Is Dr. Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Hostin?

Emmanuel is an orthopedic surgeon based out of New York City with nearly 29 years of experience. He graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1996 and is the owner of Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, a practice the surgeon established in Manhattan in 2006.

Married to Sunny since 1998, the couple share son Gabriel, a student at Harvard University, and daughter Paloma, a student at Cornell University.

What Is Dr. Emmanuel Hostin Being Accused of?

According to the lawsuit viewed by Us, Emmanuel is accused of allegedly and “knowingly” providing “fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries to Covered Persons through Hostin Orthopaedics.” The surgeon is also accused of fraudulently billing American Transit for the costs.

Emmanuel allegedly perpetrated this fraud “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.” He denies the allegations.

What Has Dr. Emmanual Hostin Said About the Lawsuit?

Emmanuel addressed the allegations via his attorney, Daniel John Thwaites, who told the Daily Mail that his client “denies each and every allegation.”

Thwaites added that the lawsuit is a “blanket, scattershot, meritless lawsuit by a near-bankrupt insurance carrier.”

“It is meant to intimidate and harass doctors from collecting for care given to American Transit insureds and their passengers,” Thwaites continued. “American Transit has rushed into the lawsuit without ever conducting an examination of Dr. Hostin or expressing any concerns to his lawyers. The real story here is about an insurance carrier abusing the legal system to limit and restrict health care benefits to its insureds and their passengers, and write off its proper obligations.”

What Has Sunny Hostin Said About the Lawsuit?

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Sunny slammed the “frivolous civil lawsuit” against her husband and approximately 200 other doctors.

“In an attempt to poison the well of public opinion because it does not have a valid case against my husband, American Transit instead used my celebrity status to start a disgusting media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children,” she said. “They plastered pictures of our family all over tabloid publications.

'The View' Cohosts Through the Years and Why They Left

American Transit is harassing me and my family in a frantic attempt to not pay its bills. Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain unbowed.”

Hostin confirmed she retained Mark Geragos as her attorney and has “put American Transit on notice and will file a $5 million counter lawsuit for their defamatory claims, an amount that is likely to increase as the reputational damage that American Transit has intentionally caused is difficult to quantify at this time.”

“Further, we demand that they withdraw these false allegations, pay my husband what he is owed and issue a public apology,” Sunny continued. “Insurance companies like American Transit make an already broken healthcare system nearly impossible for Americans to navigate and get good healthcare by engaging in despicable tactics like harassing doctors. Let me be clear, where I come from, American Transit will receive a PHD from FAFO University.”

What Hallmark Stars Have Said About Their Contracts: Luke Macfarlane, More

What Hallmark Stars Have Said About Their Contracts
Brooke Shields, Luke Macfarlane Phillip Faraone/Getty Images; Tristan Fewings/Getty Images

Hallmark Media made headlines in 2022 when they upped their exclusive contracts following a mass exodus of their talent to competitor Great American Media.

“It’s usually for either two movies, and some of them are for a Christmas movie,” Hallmark executive vice president Lisa Hamilton Daly told Deadline in May 2022 of their approach to keeping stars such as Lacey Chabert and Nikki DeLoach. “It’s really to make sure that we have access to that talent during the year.”

Chabert and DeLoach were among the network’s biggest names who stayed with Hallmark after former stars Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar left that year for Great American Media. (The former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott is in charge at GAM.)

Hallmark isn’t new to inking massive deals with big names. In fact, Brooke Shields revealed in her January 2025 memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, that she signed a 16-film deal with Hallmark in 2014.

Stars Explain Why They Love Working With Hallmark

While the contract was lucrative, the actress ended the working relationship after just three Flower Shop Mysteries films.

“I’d completed only three when I realized I had to renegotiate. I’d been hired, I was told, to help change the face of the network,” she wrote. “They wanted me to be funny and bring more comedy to their offerings, but as filming progressed on each of the Flower Shop Mysteries — the franchise I was hired to headline — all the humor had evaporated.”

After playing flower shop owner and ex-lawyer Abby Knight in three Flower Shop Mysteries movies in 2016, Shields cut ties with Hallmark.

“Not everything is for everyone, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Hallmark Channel — God knows it has a huge fan base — but it was not the future I wanted for my career,” Shields wrote in her Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old memoir, which was released in January 2025. “I’m never against hard work, but I am now a believer in only saying yes to work that serves me.”

The actress realized, “I simply could not do ten more films that were not what I was promised and felt completely wrong for me. So I quit. I definitely surprised some people, and in plenty of ways I surprised myself. I certainly would never have done that in my 20s.”

Macfarlane, who has been a Hallmark staple since 2014, explained that his contract has changed over the years.

“I’ve had overall deals with them and in [the terms it says,] I’m gonna commit to five Christmas movies or five movies, but I can’t work for any other network — and they name all the other networks — and they can’t be holiday-related movies,” he explained during an appearance on Tosh Show in December 2023. “So I was able to do [Netflix’s Single All the Way] because I was outside my deal with them.”

The actor noted that Netflix paid less than his Hallmark projects which pay “well.” Macfarlane is also a fan of his residuals from the network.

“They have to air a certain amount of time before you start getting [residuals],” he said of Hallmark. “If you end up doing one of the ones that kind of hits and is popular, it gets aired more and more, so you eventually get residuals.”

Cameron Bure stepped away from her role as Hallmark’s “Queen of Christmas” in April 2022. She gave insight into her decision to move to Great American that September, claiming it was partially because of negotiations.

“The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And those have been absolutely wonderful,” she told Variety at the time. “It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up.”

Cameron Bure — who starred in 18 Aurora Teagarden Mysteries on Hallmark Mysteries — alleged that she waited until the contract was up before talking with Great American Media. “We did not start having those discussions until we were well into negotiations with Hallmark Channel for renewing,” she continued. “And as every businessperson knows, you’ve got to do what’s right for contracts. It didn’t work out with Hallmark and so we started talking to Bill.”

McKellar became a fixture on Hallmark in 2015, but parted ways with the network in October 2021 as one of the first stars to ink a deal with Great American Media. In November 2024, she revealed that she wasn’t under contract with Hallmark at any point.

“At Hallmark, I never had an overall deal. And, with Great American, I had these multi-picture deals,” McKellar claimed during an episode of the “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” podcast. “They let me be way more involved in the writing and the producing. It is so creatively fulfilling.”
