Tiffany Trump and her husband, Michael Boulos, are expecting their first child.

President-elect Donald Trump shared the news at a campaign event in Michigan in October.Β

Michael Boulos began dating Tiffany Trump in 2018 and reportedly proposed to her with a $1.2 million engagement ring at the White House, shortly before Donald Trump left office. The couple wed at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.

Boulos' father, Massad Boulos, is CEO of the Nigerian automotive business SCOA Nigeria and will serve as a senior advisor on Middle Eastern affairs in Trump's second White House administration.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Here's a timeline of Tiffany Trump and Michael Boulos' relationship.

Boulos grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, where his family owns the automotive conglomerate SCOA Nigeria. He was studying project management at City, University of London, when he met Tiffany, then a law student at Georgetown, on vacation in Mykonos.

"I wasn't there when they met," Lohan told People magazine at the premiere party for her MTV series, "Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club," in 2019, adding that she knew both Tiffany Trump and Boulos but didn't know exactly how they met.

"Tiffany is happy she has so far been able to keep things with Michael under the radar," an unnamed source told Page Six. "But she introduced him to her family at Thanksgiving, and he comes across as a very intelligent young man from a great family. There was no mention of the president's unfortunate comment about African nations."

In January 2018, Donald Trump reportedly referred to African nations and Haiti using an expletive during a meeting with lawmakers. He denied the reports, writing on X that the language he used was "tough" but that the widely reported remark was "not the language used."

In a Truth Social post, Donald Trump described Massad Boulos as "an accomplished lawyer and a highly respected leader in the business world."

"He has been a longtime proponent of Republican and Conservative values, an asset to my Campaign, and was instrumental in building tremendous new coalitions with the Arab American Community," he wrote in part.

Trump's description of Massad Boulos as an "accomplished lawyer" may not be accurate.Β Although Massad Boulos listed a law degree from Texas Southern University on his LinkedIn profile, a Business Insider investigation found that he does not appear to be licensed to practice law in any of the countries where he's lived.

Massad Boulos was also widely reported to be the billionaire owner of Boulos Enterprises and told The New York Times in December that his company was worth billions. However, Boulos Enterprises is owned by a different Boulos family. The small automotive company Massad Boulos runs, SCOA Nigeria, is worth about $865,000.

Massad Boulos later told The New York Times that he was referring to his father-in-law's companies when asked about his business. Massad Boulos' wife, Sarah Fadoul Boulos, is the daughter of wealthy Lebanese businessman Michel Zouhair Fadoul, who runs The Fadoul Group's conglomerate.

In an email to Business Insider, Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt called media reports examining Boulos' credentials "fake news."

"The truth is Mr. Boulos is a highly respected businessman who has proudly served as the CEO of some of his family's group of companies based in West Africa for more than 27 years, and his family has employed tens of thousands of people around the globe," Leavitt said.

  • Massad Boulos helped Trump win Arab voters in Michigan. He's also Tiffany Trump's father-in-law.
  • News outlets have called him a "billionaire" and repeated Trump's description of him as a "lawyer."
  • But he doesn't appear to have a law license, and his company has a market cap of $865,000.

Massad Boulos, who has been widely described as a billionaire and a lawyer and was recently named as one of Donald Trump's advisors on Middle East affairs, appears to be neither a billionaire nor a licensed attorney, according to public records and interviews.

Boulos first entered the public eye in 2018, when his son Michael met Tiffany Trump at a club in Greece and the pair began dating. The couple married at Mar-A-Lago in 2022, making Massad Boulos Tiffany's father-in-law. He was credited in news stories with playing a key role in Donald Trump's 2024 electoral victory, helping peel Arab American voters away from Democrats in battlegrounds like Michigan.

Earlier this month, Trump said Boulos would be a "senior advisor" on Middle Eastern affairs, joining a team that includes Trump's longtime friend and supporter Steven Witkoff, his pick for ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, and Marco Rubio, his nominee for secretary of state, who will shape US policy in the region. At the time, Trump described Boulos as an "accomplished lawyer" and a "highly respected leader in the business world."

But Trump apparently inflated Boulos's rΓ©sumΓ©. Business Insider found no proof of Boulos's supposed billions. And while he may have attended law school, he hasn't passed a bar exam and can't practice law.

No connection to a company that shares his last name β€” but he does control a truck dealership worth less than $1 million in Nigeria

Claims of the Boulos family's wealth first started circulating in English-language media in 2018, when Tiffany Trump's relationship with Michael Boulos became public. The New York Post said his family "owns a multibillion-dollar conglomerate" and later mentioned Boulos Enterprises. Vanity Fair echoed the description of the Boulos businesses as "worth billions," a description that was picked up by the Times.

On December 2, the New York Times said Massad Boulos built "his wealth in West Africa" and runs two companies, SCOA Nigeria and Boulos Enterprises. The Financial Times called him an "auto tycoon" who leads both companies, while ABC called him a "billionaire businessman" who "runs Boulos Enterprises."

But Massad Boulos doesn't run Boulos Enterprises, according to several former employees and its actual boss, Boulos Boulos. Boulos Enterprises is part of the Boulos Group, a holding company owned by a different group of Lebanese Nigerians with the same last name.

A due-diligence report for Boulos Enterprises Ltd. created by Moody's Orbis database doesn't mention Massad Boulos. Archived copies of the Boulos Group website from 2016 and 2018 didn't mention him, either. And Elephant Africa Holding, a Mauritius company created by the Boulos Group to hold its paper businesses, also doesn't mention Massad in its corporate filings.

On Thursday, the Times called Boulos's wealth and backstory into question and said he previously misled one of its reporters by answering "yeah" when asked if it was accurate to call his company a multi-billion dollar business.

Beyond headlines in news outlets, BI couldn't find any evidence to suggest Massad Boulos is a billionaire. The company Massad Boulos actually does run, SCOA Nigeria, which has a subsidiary called SCOA Motors, is a penny stock. Its shares trade for about two Nigerian naira, roughly a tenth of a US cent, making the entire business worth about $865,000. That's not Billionaire's Row money, but it could buy you a 957-square-foot condo in Queens.

The company's latest annual report, which is partly printed in Comic Sans, is consistent with such a valuation. For its financial year ending September 30, SCOA reported about 5.9 billion naira, or $3.7 million, in revenue and about 25 million naira, or $15,562, in post-tax profits. The year before, when sales were weaker, SCOA lost about 715 million naira, or $444,000.

In interviews with the New York Times, Boulos has said he didn't correct the record because he doesn't discuss his businesses. He also said it was hard to value his family's businesses.

It's possible that Massad Boulos's family could have other sources of wealth. His wife, Sarah Fadoul Boulos, is the daughter of another Lebanese businessman in Africa, Michel Zouhair Fadoul, whose company boasts of a presence in "more than 10 countries" and has been listed among the most successful Lebanese businesses in Africa.

On social media, Massad and his family seem to live large, posting content from a yacht floating off the southern coast of France and a ski run in the Alps. While Massad Boulos has virtually no history of political giving, his son Michael made $200,000 in political contributions in two days in 2020. Michael was also reported to have proposed to Tiffany with a $1.2 million ring β€” which he "upgraded" to an even pricier piece by their wedding day.

Phone numbers listed for Massad Boulos and his wife were disconnected. Efforts to reach him through family members and political associates weren't successful. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment.

'Is not now, and never has been, an attorney licensed to practice law'

It's also not clear that Massad Boulos is a "lawyer," as Donald Trump has described him.

Some news outlets say that Boulos has a law degree from the University of Houston. But a spokesman for the University of Houston system said that's not correct; Boulos has a bachelor's degree in "general business" from one of its smaller schools, the University of Houston-Downtown.

In a 2015 interview on Nigerian TV, Sarah Boulos said her husband "graduated as a lawyer from Thurgood Marshall School," part of Texas Southern University, before they moved to Nigeria. Massad Boulos also listed a law degree from the school on his LinkedIn profile before the profile went offline, according to information saved in the contact database Rocketreach.

Texas Southern officials didn't respond to several requests for comment on Wednesday and Thursday.

But graduating from law school doesn't make someone a lawyer. Nahdiah Hoang, the executive director of the Texas Board of Law Examiners, said in an email that Boulos applied to take the July 1996 bar exam, but he either didn't take it or didn't pass.

A spokeswoman for the Texas Bar said Boulos "is not now, and never has been, an attorney licensed to practice law in Texas."

BI also checked bar records for DC and 47 other states β€” covering 99% of the US population β€” and found Boulos wasn't registered as a lawyer in any of those states, either. (BI was unable to confirm if Boulos was registered to practice law in Alaska or South Dakota.)

L'Orient Le Jour, a Lebanese newspaper, reported that Boulos is also a citizen of Lebanon, Nigeria, and France. There's no public evidence that Boulos is licensed as a lawyer in any of those places.

He was not listed in the directories for the 11 largest French bar associations, which cover two-thirds of French lawyers. Lawyers in Lebanon must be registered with one of two bar associations; one of them, the Beirut Bar Association, said Boulos wasn't in its database, and the other didn't respond to repeated inquiries. The Nigerian Bar Association and the country's Supreme Court, which maintains its registry of lawyers, did not respond to emails about whether Boulos was an attorney.

Here's the role every Trump family member will have — or won't have — in the White House

  • Some Trump family members may serve as unofficial White House advisors in his second term.
  • After serving as a senior advisor during Trump's first term, Ivanka Trump will not reenter politics.
  • Charles Kushner and Massad Boulos, Trump relatives by marriage, will have formal White House roles.

President-elect Donald Trump's family members may not hold as many formal White House roles in his next presidency as they did during his first term, but they'll still remain important parts of his political operation.

Melania Trump will return as first lady. Charles Kushner and Massad Boulos, both fathers of Donald Trump's sons-in-law, will also serve in the Trump administration.

Donald Trump's youngest son, Barron Trump, has begun venturing into politics and advising his father on appealing to young voters. Other Trump family membersΒ likeΒ Ivanka TrumpΒ and Tiffany Trump will remain out of the spotlight.

Here's a rundown of how Donald Trump's relatives will β€” or won't β€” be involved in his administration.

During Donald Trump's first term, Melania Trump fulfilled first lady duties such as planning state dinners, promoting children's well-being with her "Be Best" campaign, and decorating the White House for Christmas.

Still, she was also known to break White House tradition and defy expectations of the role.

She made infrequent appearances with her husband on the 2024 campaign trail and declined Jill Biden's invitation to meet at the White House after the election, indicating that she will likely play by her own rules during Trump's second term.

CNN reported that Melania Trump is "unlikely" to live at the White House full-time.

Trump Jr. and Guilfoyle have reportedly broken off their engagement after six years of dating, but Guilfoyle will remain in the Trump orbit as ambassador to Greece in Donald Trump's second White House administration.

"For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally," Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad."

When Donald Trump launched his 2024 campaign, Ivanka Trump announced that she was stepping back from politics.

"I love my father very much," she said in a statement shared on social media. "This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics. While I will always love and support my father, going forward, I will do so outside the political arena."

She made a few appearances with her father during the campaign but largely returned to her life as a socialite. In a July interview on the "Lex Fridman Podcast," Ivanka Trump reiterated that she did not plan to return to politics, calling it "a rough, rough business" that is "at odds with what feels good for me as a human being."

Kushner told Axios in February that he would not rejoin the Trump administration as a senior advisor for a second term, but CNN and the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that he would serve as an unofficial advisor, building on the relationships he formed with leaders in the Middle East while brokering the Abraham Accords.

In a Truth Social post, Donald Trump called Charles Kushner "a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & interests."

Donald Trump pardoned Kushner, a billionaire real-estate developer who pleaded guilty to tax evasion and witness tampering in 2004, during his first term. Kushner donated $1 million to Donald Trump's super PAC in 2023.

Eric Trump has served as an advisor throughout Donald Trump's presidential runs, frequently appearing at rallies and on cable news. He remains the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, overseeing the Trump family's luxury real-estate portfolio as he did during Donald Trump's first term.

New York Attorney General Letitia James led a yearslong investigation into allegations of fraud at the Trump Organization. In February, the civil fraud case resulted in a $364 million penalty against Donald Trump and other company leaders. The Trump Organization denied any wrongdoing and appealed the verdict.

Lara Trump was voted cochair of the Republican National Committee in March after receiving Donald Trump's endorsement.

She shared the job with Michael Whatley, a Trump loyalist and former North Carolina's GOP chair. Together, Lara Trump and Whatley oversaw the RNC's platform and funds, further cementing Donald Trump's hold over the Republican Party.

Some GOP members, including Alabama Sen. Katie Britt, Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, and Florida Sen. Rick Scott, called on DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump to the Senate seat that Sen. Marco Rubio will vacate if he is confirmed as secretary of state.

In December, Lara Trump stepped down as RNC cochair and wrote on X that she'd decided to withdraw her name from consideration for the US Senate, but teased a forthcoming "big announcement."

Massad Boulos, a Lebanese-American businessman who owns an automotive company in Nigeria, campaigned with Donald Trump in Michigan ahead of the 2024 election in an effort to reach Arab-American voters.

In a Truth Social post, Donald Trump called Boulos "an accomplished lawyer and a highly respected leader in the business world" and said he was "instrumental in building tremendous new coalitions with the Arab American Community" during the campaign.

While Boulos was widely reported to be the billionaire owner of the Nigerian company Boulos Enterprises, it is owned by a different Boulos family.

Boulos previously told The New York Times that his company, SCOA Nigeria, was worth billions. It's actually worth about $865,000, the Times reported. Boulos later said that he was referring to his father-in-law's business ventures β€” his wife's father, Michel Zouhair Fadoul, is a wealthy Lebanese businessman who runs The Fadoul Group.

There's also no proof that Boulos is an "accomplished lawyer" as Donald Trump described him. A Business Insider investigation found that while Boulos listed a law degree on his LinkedIn profile, he does not appear to be licensed to practice law in any of the countries where he's lived.

"The truth is Mr. Boulos is a highly respected businessman who has proudly served as the CEO of some of his family's group of companies based in West Africa for more than 27 years, and his family has employed tens of thousands of people around the globe," Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt previously told Business Insider in an email, adding that media reports questioning Boulos' credentials were "fake news."

Ahead of the 2024 election, Barron Trump began venturing into politics after turning 18, serving as an at-large Florida delegate at the Republican National Convention.

In an August interview with streamer Adin Ross, Donald Trump shared that Barron Trump had told him to appear on the show, saying, "Dad, he's really big."

While Barron Trump will be busy with his studies at New York University during his father's second term, he may continue offering advice to appeal to young citizens.

Representatives for the Trump transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
