"Nonsense": Panama's president slams Trump's claims that Chinese soldiers operate in canal
Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Thursday vehemently denied President-elect Trump's claims that of Chinese interference in the Panama Canal.
Why it matters: Trump has cited China increasing dominance in trade throughout the Americas as a reason to take control of the Panama Canal, one of the world's most crucial pieces of infrastructure that the U.S. ceded in 1999.
- The president-elect doubled down in a Christmas Day message, writing on Truth Social: "Merry Christmas to all, including to the wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal."
What they're saying: "There is absolutely not any interference" from China or any other nation in the operation of the canal, Mulino said during a Thursday briefing, emphasizing that Panama is open for business equally to all interested parties.
- "If they're Chinese, if they're Costa Rican, if they're American, all are welcome who want to invest in the country. There is no discrimination here in foreign investment," he said.
- "There are no Chinese soldiers in the canal, for the love of God," added an animated Mulino, addressing Trump's post directly. "It's nonsense. There is not a single Chinese soldier in the canal."
Between the lines: China's government has in recent years heavily invested in operations in the Canal Zone, raising concerns about its neutrality.
- It's the primary source of products going through the Colón Free Trade Zone, a free port in Panama dedicated to re-exporting a variety of merchandise to Latin America and the Caribbean, noted the Center for Strategic and International Studies in 2021.
- Beijing's "increasing presence in and around the Canal has made the waterway a flashpoint for U.S.-China competition over spheres of influence," added the CSIS in the report.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Reveals Her Experience With Ageism in Hollywood
Jennifer Love Hewitt has been a bonafide Hollywood starlet since the 1990s — and she’s opening up about the unrealistic expectations that come with being in the spotlight for decades.
“I feel like fans pick this age that they love that they think represents you, and you’re never supposed to grow beyond that,” Hewitt, 45, told Fox New Digital in an interview published on Thursday, December 26. “For me, it was like me and my 20s. People seem to have a really hard time accepting that I don’t look that way anymore.”
While Hewitt started her acting career at a young age on Kids Incorporated, she had her first big break at 16 years old when she landed the role of Sarah Reeves on Fox’s Party of Five. Two years later, she became a global sensation with 1997’s slasher hit I Know What You Did Last Summer and its subsequent sequel. She has since starred in shows like Time of Your Life, The Client List and Ghost Whisperer, and released four studio albums.
While some may have had trouble watching her evolve over the years, Hewitt — who shares kids, Autumn, 11, Atticus, 9, and Aidan, 3, with husband Brian Hallisay — sees aging as a beautiful thing.

“Age is age,” she explained. “I think women really come into this acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”
These days, she stars as Maddie Buckley on ABC procedural 9-1-1 and just released The Holiday Junkie, a TV film which she directed and starred in.
“It’s hard because I think as humans, we want to evolve,” she continued. “We want to have lines on our faces, and you know our boobs be lower from breast-feeding our children, or, you know, our butt’s bigger.”
However, Hewitt is only human, and can’t help but occasionally notice trolls’ comments on social media.
7 Times Celebs Clapped Back At Aging Comments
“Whatever it is, you just want to have the freedom to be whoever you are at that age,” she explained. “And it’s hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because they’re having a hard time adjusting to it.”
The criticism reached a boiling point last year when Hewitt posted a photo of herself with no makeup, leading to claims that she was “unrecognizable.” She addressed the photo on a December 2023 episode of Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast.
“The picture ended up somewhere. And a bunch of people were like, ‘Jennifer Love Hewitt is unrecognizable,'” she said. “’She’s unrecognizable and so she’s gone to filters because she doesn’t want us to know how bad she actually looks now in her 40s.’ And I was like, ‘This is crazy.’ Right?”

Hewitt also took time to look back at her younger self and offer some advice to the teenager who graced the cover of Maxim at age 17.
“Look, it’s going to work out. You’re going to start getting old, and they’re still going to let you do things,” she said. “It’s OK. You’re fine.”

Justin Baldoni and Gina Rodriguez's Friendship Timeline
Justin Baldoni and Gina Rodriguez evolved from onscreen love interests to best friends.
The duo met on the set of Jane the Virgin, which premiered on The CW in 2014. Based on a Venezuelan telenovela, Jane the Virgin starred Rodriguez as devout virgin Jane who became pregnant after an accidental artificial insemination by her gynecologist while Baldoni played Rafael a.k.a the father of her baby.
Before Jane the Virgin came to an end five seasons later, Baldoni reflected on the impact the show had on his life.
“What a magical experience @cwjanethevirgin was. Even from the audition there was something so special / magical about it,” he wrote via Instagram in 2019. “Its a longer story for another time but we set our intention from the beginning (actually before the official beginning) to be of service with our work. Love @hereisgina — so proud of all the bad ass magic she is creating right now.”
Baldoni went on to praise Rodriguez as a scene partner, adding in a separate post, “So proud of my soul sister @hereisgina. I’ve been watching her create magic for the last five years, I’ve seen how hard she works both on screen and off to create change and make a difference.”
He continued: “The business deals in between scenes, the love and respect for the crew and family, the 14 hour days and press on the weekends, the fight for representation and care to always look to cast and hire the marginalized and under-represented. She is so full of love and talent and I am so damn proud to call her a friend.”
Rodriguez was just as proud of Baldoni amid his success as a director and producer. “Justin is also one of my closest friends and we talk all the time,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in August 2024.

The 12 Best Hanukkah TV Episodes to Watch: 'Friends,' 'The O.C.' and More
From Friends to The Goldbergs, there are plenty of Hanukkah-themed TV episodes to watch this season, whether you’re Jewish or not. So put on your yarmulke, it’s time for Hanukkah!
Us Weekly rounded up the best TV episodes that pay tribute to the Festival of Lights. For a more comical spin on Hanukkah, start by streaming Friends’ “The One With the Holiday Armadillo.” During the show, Ross (David Schwimmer) dresses up as an armadillo after his attempt to get a Santa suit does not work out. He dons the silly costume to try and teach his son Ben about his Jewish heritage.
The O.C., on the other hand, combined both Christmas and Hanukkah to create Chrismukkah in all four seasons of the series. Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) looked forward to the joint holiday every year — as did many fans of the drama — but season 1’s “The Best Chrismukkah Ever” is the best episode of all.
Saturday Night Live recruited Adam Sandler to create the iconic “Hanukkah Song” in 1994, which can be used to set the scene for any Hanukkah celebration. Plus, Rugrats explained the traditional tale of the season through the eyes of the babies, showing a humorous side to the timeless traditions of the holiday.

Susie Evans Says She And Justin Glaze Are ‘Working on Things’ After Split
Bachelor Nation’s Susie Evans and Justin Glaze connected over a vlog in winter 2022, but it wasn’t until the following year that things turned romantic.
Fans met Evans during season 26 of The Bachelor, which aired in 2021. Following an explosive finale in which Clayton Echard broke up with Evans, the pair announced they were dating again that December. However, they called it quits in September 2022.
Glaze, meanwhile, was the runner-up on season 17 of The Bachelorette in summer 2021. The season’s lead, Katie Thurston, ultimately accepted a proposal from Blake Moynes.
Following their respective Bachelor Nation heartbreaks, Glaze and Evans connected in late 2022 when Glaze asked Evans to help him film a video for work. Throughout 2023 the two sparked romance speculation as they continued to hang out.
Evans confirmed their romantic relationship in January 2024, sharing PDA-filled photos on social media. “Okay fine … y’all were right ,” she captioned the images.
Less than a year later, Glaze announced in August 2024 that he and Evans had gone their separate ways.
Scroll down to see Evans and Glaze’s complete relationship timeline:
Bachelor Nation Couples Who Got Together Outside the Show
December 2022
“We’re hard launching a collaboration,” Evans exclusively told Us Weekly, shutting down rumors that she was dating Glaze. “I was there to help him film an ad, which had nothing to do with my blog. … His videographer wasn’t available and I live three hours from him and he was like, ‘Hey, is there any chance you’d be available on this date to do a videography thing?’ And I was like, ‘Can we exchange yes for a blog collaboration?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, absolutely.’”
She recalled having “so much fun” working with Glaze, revealing, “We were dying laughing going through the DMs [of dating questions I got] so I imagine it’ll be entertaining to watch back.”
Evans released the video collab where the pair answered fans’ DMs about their love lives later that month.
August 2023
After hanging out with fellow Bachelorette contestant Andrew Spencer at the Barbie premiere in July, Evans trolled rumors about her alleged romance with each man on social media.
Evans wore “Team Justin” and “Team Andrew” friendship bracelets to a Los Angeles’ Taylor Swift Eras Tour stop. The jewelry choice caused some fans to think she was indeed dating one of the Bachelor Nation stars.
October 2023
The pair’s relationship changed after Evans told Glaze in October 2023 to stop “messing around” regarding their flirty banter. “In the back of my head, I was like, ‘If you’re serious, I’m serious.’ That was kind of my mindset,” Glaze told E! News in January 2024 of the turning point. “I had always been testing the lines, and I wasn’t sure if she would go for it. So, I didn’t want to cross those boundaries.”
Glaze decided in that moment to express his feelings fully. “I was like, ‘Hey listen, I don’t know where you stand on our friendship or relationship. Obviously, I respect you so much, and I appreciate our friendship. But I’d be lying if I [said I] haven’t thought about if there is potential for more than a friendship just given the natural chemistry that we had as friends,’” he recalled, revealing that they shared a kiss that night.
January 2024
During the same E! News interview, Evans confirmed for the first time that Glaze was her “boyfriend.” The couple proceeded to share a series of cozy photos on social media as their relationship hard launch.
February 2024
The twosome celebrated their first Valentine’s Day as a couple, sharing tributes on social media. “I can’t espresso how much u bean to me ,” Glaze wrote via Instagram alongside pictures of the duo drinking coffee.
“Happy day of love to my not-dramatic-at-all boyfriend @justinglaze,” Evans teased in her own post, sharing a funny video of Glaze being over the top.
March 2024
The pair enjoyed a getaway to New York City before taking in their first Los Angeles Kings hockey game at the end of the month.
April 2024
Evans and Glaze kicked off the month with a romantic escape to Mexico.
August 2024
Speculation sparked that the two had split when fans noticed the pair hadn’t posted each other on their respective social media accounts. Evans told Us at the time that she realized it’s “better to protect your privacy and your peace than to appease what people want from you.” Glaze, for his part, told Us later that month that he and Evans were taking their relationship “day by day.”
Days later, Glaze confirmed that he and Evans called it quits. “Susie and I, we’re not together,” Glaze revealed during an episode of the “Almost Famous” podcast. “We are doing our best to — kind of, like I said — protect each other, keep things private as we try to navigate what this looks like for us.”
September 2024
Glaze and Evans were spotted sitting next to each other in the Dancing With the Stars ballroom as they cheered on Jenn Tran during the season 33 premiere in Los Angeles.
December 2024
During a December episode of “Almost Famous,” Evans gave OG Bachelorette Trista Sutter an update on where she and Glaze stand at the moment.
“We are working on things, and seeing if it makes sense for us and taking things slow, taking things privately,” Evans said of her and Glaze. “[We are] just kind of seeing what really makes sense for us.”
Evans added that it’s been “cool” that they “have been able to maintain a very positive friendship” since their breakup. While she is “grateful” to still remain on good terms with Glaze friendship-wise, she shared the pair’s next steps include figuring out if their romantic connection has longevity.
“I think a big thing in life is compatibility,” she explained. “We’re just at points in our life where we have to figure out if we are compatible.”
Michael Bolton Shares Rare Pic 1 Year After Brain Tumor Diagnosis
Michael Bolton is cozying up with his loved ones on Christmas.
In an image shared via Facebook on Wednesday, December 25, Bolton, 71, sat on a couch alongside his family with a Christmas tree visible in the background. (Bolton shares daughters Isa, Holly, and Taryn with ex-wife Maureen McGuire. He is also a grandfather.)
The family rocked Christmas-themed loungewear as Bolton donned a red Santa hat and Grinch shirt underneath a black jacket. A light blue blanket, featuring presents, snowmen and trees, laid on his lap.
“Sending warm wishes for a holiday season filled with peace, love, and joy. May the New Year bring health, happiness, and countless moments to cherish,” Bolton captioned his post. “Here’s to fresh starts and beautiful moments in 2025!”
Michael Bolton Had ‘Immediate Surgery’ After Brain Tumor Diagnosis
Bolton’s festive snap came nearly one year after he shared he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
“I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year! I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges. Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery,” Bolton wrote via Facebook in January. “Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success.”
Bolton said he was “recuperating at home” while spending time with his loved ones and noted that he still has a long road ahead of him toward a full recovery.
“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring,” he explained. “It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon.”
Michael Bolton Reacts After Police Cars Spotted at Singer’s House
Bolton concluded his message by expressing gratitude for “the love and support” he’s received from his fans through the years. Three months later, Bolton shared an update on his health.
“Hi everyone, just a quick update that I am healing well and doing better every day. I’ve been enjoying the company of my daughters and grandkids during this time at home, and practicing on my putting green whenever it’s not raining!” he wrote via Facebook in March. “Thank you all so much for all the kind messages and I hope to see you very soon!!”
Bolton signed the message, “MB … with lots of time, love and tenderness.”
Candace Cameron Bure Recalls ‘Hard Time’ Moving to Great American Family
Candace Cameron Bure is looking forward to shooting “another four to five movies” with Great American Family in 2025, but her road to happiness with the network hasn’t been easy.
“It certainly is difficult when talking to media outlets,” Cameron Bure, 48, confessed to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Wednesday, December 25. “While we are grateful for media outlets that point people to our channels, there’s still always a risk because the answers can be written out of context.”
The actress noted that her past comments about Great American Family — which is a channel under the Great American Media banner — focusing on “traditional marriage” as opposed to Hallmark Channel’s more inclusive story lines (including same sex couples, etc.) was a bump in the road.
“That certainly happened to me when moving over to Great American Family, and it was a really hard time,” Cameron Bure recalled. “And to be misunderstood in that way was difficult.”
Everything Candace Cameron Bure Has Said About Leaving Hallmark for GAF
The Full House alum made headlines in April 2022 when she announced that she was leaving Hallmark Media after 13 years to work exclusively with Great American Media. The move reunited Cameron Bure with Hallmark’s former CEO, Bill Abbott, who raised eyebrows before his own departure from the network when he removed an ad featuring a same-sex couple from the channel.
In November 2022, Cameron Bure explained her reason for switching networks after previously being the face of Hallmark’s holiday coverage and being dubbed the “Queen of Christmas.” She told The Wall Street Journal’s WSJ. Magazine at the time, “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them.”
She claimed that Hallmark was a “completely different network than when I started” and she was excited to work with Great American Family due to its desire to “promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
Cameron Bure added, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”
The comment caused outrage among fans and celebrities alike with some people calling Cameron Bure a “bigot.”
Cameron Bure — who has now produced several movies for Great American Family under her Candy Rock Entertainment production company banner — shared a message of sadness at the time over the backlash she received.
Candace Cameron Bure Doesn't Speak for Great American Family, Says CEO
“All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people,” she began in a lengthy statement shared via Instagram in November 2022. “It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone. It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.”
She noted that she is a “devoted Christian” who said she is “called to love all people.”
Cameron Bure concluded: “To everyone reading this, of any race, creed, sexuality, or political party, including those who have tried to bully me with name-calling, I love you.”
Two years later, Cameron Bure said that Great American Family is still trying to get their footing in the media realm and working toward its faith-focused content.
“We are a relatively new channel. This is only our fourth year in Christmas,” she told THR. “Like any new business, you have your core demographic and what you’re looking for, and you’re going to produce the product that will best suit that audience.”
The Fuller House alum continued: “Most networks are not trying to be all things to all people. What really differentiates our channel from some of the other ones out there is that we’re not afraid to talk about God and God’s hand in our lives instead of fate or providence.”
Candace Cameron Bure Defends Leaving Hallmark: ‘I’m More Than an Actor’
Cameron Bure pointed out that Great American Family leans into “faith in our movies” that align with their tagline for the channel which is: “Christmas as it’s meant to be.”
Because of that, the actress and producer said she looks for stories to tell on the network that “touch the heart and have more purpose to them than just the magic of Christmas or the Santa Claus of Christmas.”
Despite any past backlash over her remarks, Cameron Bure said she has always stayed true to her goal with Great American Family — which means putting love and God first.
“It’s always been the spirit of all the movies that I’ve produced. God loves all of us, and so that’s the spirit in which I make everything,” she concluded.
Beyonce and Jay-Z's Daughter Blue Ivy Is Growing Up: Photos Over the Years
With Beyoncé and Jay-Z as parents, Blue Ivy was born into music royalty when she arrived in January 2012.
“Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful,” the couple wrote in a statement at the time. “We are in heaven.” They went on to write that the little one was “delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of” their lives. (Beyoncé and Jay-Z went on to welcome twins Sir and Rumi in 2017.)
Blue Ivy began following in her parents’ famous footsteps at a young age, as Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, exclusively told Us Weekly in November 2018 that Blue Ivy had been performing “since birth.”
Earlier that year, Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, called Blue Ivy “a star,” telling Us that Blue Ivy shares a lot of traits with her mother and aunt. “[Blue Ivy] reminds me a lot of Beyoncé and Solange [Knowles] when they were that age,” he explained in April 2018. “I can see [them in her].”
Mathew went on to state that he will support Blue Ivy “in anything and everything,” as long as she is passionate about it. “’If it is your passion, then you have a huge chance of being successful. It can’t be what I want or what your mother and father want. It needs to be what you want to do,’” he said. “So if that was [her] passion, absolutely, I would be all for it.”

WWE star CM Punk rips Bears' leadership amid team's disappointing season
Phillip Brooks, better known by his WWE ring name, CM Punk, is not happy with the state of his hometown NFL team.
Punk, who was born in Chicago, aired some of his grievances with the Bears during a guest appearance on Netflix's NFL coverage Christmas Day.
"Nothing’s going to change until the McCaskeys sell the team. I said it," Punk said in reference to the family that inherited ownership of the Bears from team founder George Halas several decades ago.

"We’re live on Netflix, I don’t care. I’ve been there. Oh, Lovie Smith is going to change the Bears. Oh, Trubisky is going to change the Bears. Then, we trade up and we lose [Patrick] Mahomes."
ROOKIE QB CALEB WILLIAMS IS FRUSTRATED WITH LOSING, AND SO ARE BEARS FANS
While quarterback Mitch Trubisky finished his four-year run in Chicago with more than 10,000 passing yards, his tenure was viewed as a disappointment.
"We’re going to just walk off the set and let you rant," pregame show co-host Devin McCourty said.
"Mahomes right now. No, he’d be on the Bears. Sorry," Punk responded.
Trubisky was the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, when the Kansas City Chiefs used the tenth overall selection for Mahomes. In April, the Bears had the draft's first overall pick after trading the 2023 top pick to the Carolina Panthers. This year, the Bears kept the pick and selected USC Trojans standout Caleb Williams.
Williams has struggled at times this season.
The Bears enter Thursday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks with a 4-11 record. The Bears have already been eliminated from playoff contention and parted ways with coach Matt Eberflus last month.
But Punk, a self-proclaimed "Chicago sports fan," suggested the franchise's shortcomings should fall at the feet of the team's leadership.
"I’m a Chicago sports fan," Punk said. "And, ladies and gentlemen, it doesn’t get any lower than that right now."

Meta's Quest VR headset seemed to be a hot holiday gift
- Meta's Horizon app topped Apple's App Store on Christmas Day, signaling strong VR headset demand.
- Quest headsets, starting at $299, are gaining mainstream traction in virtual reality.
- Despite strong demand, Meta's Reality Labs faces significant financial losses.
Meta's virtual reality ambitions got a Christmas boost this year.
On Christmas Day, the company's Meta Horizon app, which users must download to set up the Quest virtual reality headsets developed by Meta, was the top free app in Apple's App Store in the US and the UK, indicating strong holiday demand.
Meta has never disclosed how many Quest headsets it has sold. The surge in app downloads suggests that the Quest is solidifying its status as one of the most mainstream VR headsets. The devices, which start at $299 and are developed by Meta's Reality Labs division, are a relatively affordable gateway to virtual and mixed-reality experiences. They let people watch movies on giant virtual screens, play immersive games, and even work out.
Meta did not respond to a request for comment about Quest sales from Business Insider.
Quest competes with VR headsets from other companies, including Sony, HTC, and Apple, although Apple's Vision Pro headset costs much more, at $3,500.
Meta has been working to make VR more accessible to a broader audience. In October, the company launched the Quest 3S, a less expensive version of the more advanced Quest 3, priced at $299 — $200 less than the standard model. Like the Quest 3, the 3S lets people experience mixed reality in full color, making it a compelling entry point for VR newcomers.
Meta's quarterly revenue from Reality Labs, which includes $299 Ray-Ban glasses that let people take pictures and talk to Meta's AI chatbot, was $270 million — an increase of 29% compared to the same quarter the year before, the company announced in October.
Still, Reality Labs continues to bleed money. In the third quarter of 2024, Meta reported that Reality Labs lost $4.4 billion, up from $3.7 billion in the same quarter of 2023. For the first nine months of 2024, Reality Labs lost nearly $13 billion, Meta's earnings report said, and the company has warned investors that it expects the division to lose even more money.
"Overall, I'd say Reality Labs is clearly one of our strategic long-term priorities," said Susan Li, Meta's chief financial officer, responding to a question about Reality Labs' losses on the earnings call. She added that Meta expects it to "be an area of significant investment as we build out towards the very ambitious product road map that we have there."
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has remained bullish on the company's VR strategy. On the call, Zuckerberg highlighted the company's strong demand for its Ray-Ban glasses and expressed optimism about Orion, an early prototype of its glasses that superimpose digital elements onto the real world.
"We're not too far off from being able to deliver great-looking glasses that let you seamlessly blend the physical and digital worlds," Zuckerberg said on the earnings call.
Unlike the Meta Horizon app for Quest headsets, Meta View, the app for setting up the Ray-Ban glasses, however, isn't on the App Store's top charts.
