Breaking Down One Direction's Solo Careers by the Numbers

Since One Direction’s 2016 split, members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have each embarked on their own solo careers.

Malik was the first to do so after abruptly leaving the boy band in March 2015. He subsequently signed a solo contract with RCA Records, and released his debut album, Mind of Mine, the following year.

Styles followed suit in June 2016, re-signing with Columbia Records and dropping his self-titled debut in May 2017. Horan, meanwhile, inked a deal with Capitol Records in September 2016, and released his first album, Flicker, in October 2017.

Payne and Tomlinson, meanwhile, put out a series of singles before releasing their debut albums LP1 and Walls in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Despite parting ways, the former boy banders remained in touch over the years and even reunited at Payne’s funeral in November 2024 funeral. (Paye died at age 31 one month prior after falling from a third story hotel balcony in Argentina.)

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” the remaining members wrote in a joint statement in October 2024. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

Below, Us Weekly breaks down the five guys’ solo careers by the numbers:

Joe Biden's Family Guide: Meet His Kids, Grandkids and More

Joe Biden’s family has been in the spotlight before and after he moved into the White House.

The same year Biden won his U.S. Senate seat in 1972, his first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, and their three children, Beau, Hunter and Naomi ‘Amy’ Biden, were involved in a car accident. Neilia and 13-month-old Amy were killed in the crash, while Beau and Hunter survived with serious injuries.

After a period of grieving, Joe’s brother Frank Biden set him up on a blind date with Jill Biden, née Jacobs, in 1975. The couple married two years later and welcomed their daughter, Ashley, in June 1981.

“She gave me back my life,” the politician wrote of Jill in his 2007 memoir, Promises to Keep. “She made me start to think my family might be whole again.”

Biden was elected as the 46th president of the United States in 2020 but dropped out of the 2024 presidential race to endorse his Vice President, Kamala Harris. Harris ultimately lost the election to Donald Trump.

Joe was born in Pennsylvania in November 1942 to Joseph Biden Sr. and Jean Biden (pictured), who had married the year before. His father died in September 2002 at age 86, and his mother died in January 2010 at age 92.

©

Joe is the oldest of four siblings. His sister, Valerie Biden Owens (pictured), has played a substantial role in all of his political campaigns dating back to his first Senate run. Valerie served as a U.S. senior adviser to the United Nations General Assembly and is the vice chair of the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware. Joe and Valerie have two younger brothers, Frank and Jim Biden.

After meeting in the Bahamas, Joe and his first wife married in August 1966. They welcomed sons Beau and Hunter (pictured) in February 1969 and February 1970 and daughter Amy in November 1971. Like Jill, Neilia worked as a teacher and played an integral role in Joe’s political career. The New York native and Amy died in December 1972 on their way to buy a Christmas tree with Beau and Hunter. Neilia was 30.

Born Jill Jacobs, Joe’s second wife grew up in Pennsylvania and went on to obtain degrees from the University of Delaware, West Chester University and Villanova University. She worked as a high school English teacher for 13 years in addition to teaching disabled children at a psychiatric hospital. She made the move to higher education in 1993, when she became an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College. She has worked as a professor at Northern Virginia Community College since 2009.
Jill was previously married to Bill Stevenson from February 1970 to May 1975. After tying the knot with Joe in June 1977, she became a stepmother to his surviving kids, Beau and Hunter, before giving birth to daughter Ashley. During her time as second lady from 2009 to 2017, Jill worked to bring awareness to military families and breast cancer prevention. She continued working full-time as a teacher while serving as FLOTUS, making her the first to do so.

Born Joseph Biden III, Beau followed in his father’s footsteps with a career in public service. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University College of Law, he joined the military and served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service. Beau was elected the 44th attorney general of Delaware in 2006 and held the title until 2015.
Beau married Hallie Biden (née Olivere) in November 2002, and they welcomed daughter Natalie in August 2004 and son Hunter (named after his uncle) in 2006. Beau decided not to seek a third term as attorney general after being diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2013. He succumbed to the disease in May 2015 at age 46.

Born Robert Hunter Biden, Joe’s second eldest child is a graduate of Georgetown University and Yale University, where he obtained a law degree. He is a founding partner of the investment firm Rosemont Seneca Partners and served on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings from 2014 to 2019.
While volunteering at a church in Oregon in 1993, Hunter met Kathleen Biden (née Buhle), whom he married later that year. The pair went on to welcome three children together, Naomi, Finnegan and Maisy, before separating in October 2015 and divorcing in April 2017. In the midst of their split, Hunter entered into a two-year relationship with his late brother Beau’s widow, Hallie. Joe and Jill gave their blessing to the unconventional romance, saying in a statement at the time, “We are happy for them.”
Hunter, who has been open about struggling with drugs and alcohol in the past, went on to have children with stripper Lunden Roberts and filmmaker Melissa Cohen, whom he married in May 2019. His youngest child is named Beau after his late brother.
Hunter received a presidential pardon from his father in December 2024 after being convicted of federal gun possession and tax evasion charges.

Joe and Jill’s only child together attended private school in Delaware before studying cultural anthropology at Tulane University in Louisiana. She went on to get a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. Ashley served as the executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice from 2014 to 2019 and founded the fashion company Livelihood in 2017.
Ashley met her husband, Howard Krein, in 2010 after being introduced by her half-brother Beau. She married the plastic surgeon in June 2012.

Beau and Hallie’s children recited the Pledge of Allegiance in a video that played during the 2020 Democratic National Convention. “Pop told us that this election would be totally different from any other election ever,” Natalie said at the time. “He was worried how it would affect his kids.”

©

When Hunter and Kathleen’s firstborn daughter graduated from Columbia Law School in May 2020, Joe delivered a keynote address at the ceremony. Naomi later tweeted, “I am proud to be your granddaughter every single day @JoeBiden.”
Naomi wed her husband, Peter Neal, on the lawn of the White House in November 2022.

©

Hunter and Kathleen’s second daughter got her name from Joe’s late mother, whose maiden name was Finnegan. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, the alma mater of many of her relatives, in 2021.

©

Naomi and Finnegan’s younger sister, Maisy, plays basketball and is best friends with Obama’s daughter Sasha Obama, her former classmate at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. Maisy is also a University of Pennsylvania alum, having graduated from the school in 2023.

Cuffe Owens is the eldest son of Biden’s younger sister and political confidante, Valerie Biden Owens, and John T. Owens, an attorney and former classmate of the president. The former VP's nephew has two younger sisters, Missy Owens and Casey Owens Castello. Like his father, Cuffe is an attorney who attended Georgetown University for undergrad and went to the University of Southern California for law school. He was admitted into the California bar in 2009. Unlike many of his relatives, Cuffe managed to keep a low profile until it was revealed that he was dating The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Meghan King in September 2021. Less than one month after making their relationship Instagram official, the two were married in a “small family wedding” attended by POTUS and the first lady.
Cuffe and King called it quits after two months of marriage in December 2021 and had their marriage annulled in July 2022.

His comment came a day after he gave a statement to People amid social media speculation about Spears, saying that he has "always wanted nothing but the best for my better half and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves."

I was like, ‘Oh s—t. I'm meeting a real human being that has passion.’ And you know what's crazy? … The fact that someone so successful, someone — it's going to help me down the line, it's helping me as we speak — is that someone that's on her level or her level of success could be so sweet and so humble, you know what I mean?” he said. “Versus you meet some people that are not so successful that don't have that attitude. You understand how these people that are on the level as she is, why she's there because they make people fall in love with them. Just like her, just like the Rock. They make people feel amazing being around them. It's the energy when they enter a room, it's so amazing you know. That's what helps me, and I hope I have that energy.” The actor added that Britney is taking the lead when it comes to wedding planning.“She's wearing the pants. And something with my relationship is, it's very hard, but something about a secret and something about spontaneous things and privacy — you don't get that anymore - so I'm really trying to respect that. Not only for her but for me,” he said. “Because I want to have this amazing future, and if you practice that now, I think it's always going to be there.”

Asghari opened up about his relationship with the “Lucky” pop star in an interview with GQ. He revealed that he and Spears don’t have a joint back account and they trade off who pays for dinner. “We do travel a lot and I am dating a girl that's very expensive. She has an expensive taste but I do try to incorporate my lifestyle to her as well, and if it was up to me, we would cut down on the traveling and stay at a much cheaper hotel, and we would probably live off of $60 a day,” he said. The Iranian emigreé also opened up about how he picked an engagement ring for the “Oops I Did It Again” singer. “I figured with her taste, she wouldn't want something super big and super celebrity. Celebrities get that million dollar ring. And usually, it's free because it's for promotion, but I want it to represent something. I want it to come from my heart and I want it to go to someone that wasn't a big jeweler. It was a big company but it was a company that was willing to do it the way that I wanted it,” he told the outlet, adding that he went with “a princess cut, for a real life princess.” The Can You Keep a Secret actor proposed to Spears at their home. “We do have videos of it but that's only for our eyes,” he told GQ. “I didn't tell anybody [about the proposal] to be honest with you. “She was calm, but said in a quiet, level tone that she would never stand for being spoken to like that. I nodded. She wanted to know where it came from,” Harry recalled in his memoir. “I don’t know. [She asked,] ’Where did you ever hear a man speak like that to a woman? Did you overhear adults speak that way when you were growing up?’ I cleared my throat, looked away [and responded], ‘Yes.’”

“Numerous people [were] like, ‘He's changed, she must be a witch. He's changed,” Harry said during his 60 Minutes interview when talking about how Meghan positively influence him. “As opposed to, ‘Yeah, I did change, and I'm really glad I changed.’”
He continued: “Rather than getting drunk, falling out of clubs, taking drugs I've now found the love of my life. And I now have the opportunity to start a family with her.”

Meghan and Harry made a rare public appearance at the 2023 Women of Vision Awards in New York City. The Duchess of Sussex turned headed in a gold strapless gown designed by Johanna Ortiz. Meanwhile, Harry wore a navy suit while escorting his wife and her mother, Doria Ragland, to the event. The outing came shortly after the Duke of Sussex returned from his father's coronation in the U.K.
The group were involved in a “near catastrophic” car chase with paparazzi on their way home from the event, according to their spokesperson. A source source exclusively told Us that Harry and Meghan “were terrified throughout the whole ordeal” and that “everyone is still very upset.” The NYPD later confirmed that the family’s transport was “challenging” but asserted that no collisions or injuries occurred. Buckingham Palace did not comment on the incident at the time.
Harry and Meghan’s security told CNN later that month that the chase could have been “fatal.” Meanwhile, taxi driver Sukhcharn Singh claimed the couple’s version of the story was “exaggerated.”
“New York City’s the safest place to be,” Singh told BBC of the chase. “There’s police stations on every corner, there’s no reason to be afraid in New York.”

Meghan offered details about her Thanksgiving plans with Harry and the kids.
“We’re always making sure we have something fun to do,” she told Marie Claire. “Like any other family, you spend time having a great meal, and then what do you do? Play games, all the same stuff, someone brings a guitar — fun.”
Meghan said that the holiday season gets better as kids Archie and Lili continue to grow up.
“At first, I think as a mom with children you’re just enjoying having them there, but they’re not understanding everything that’s happening yet,” she said. “But now we’re at the age where I just can’t wait to see it through their lens every year.”
