Rangers' Matt Rempe suspended 8 games for hit on Stars player

The New York Rangers recalled hard-hitting defenseman Matt Rempe back to the main roster on Friday and three days later he finds himself suspended for eight games.

Rempe elbowed and boarded Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen during New York’s 3-1 win on Friday night. He was given a game misconduct for the play.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced he was suspended for eight games for the play. He was also fined $80,000. The league said Rempe was considered to be a repeat offender. He has only played in 22 career regular-season games and he’s been ejected four times.

Rempe spent a majority of the season playing in the American Hockey League for the Rangers’ affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. He started the season with New York but didn’t last long with the team. He was recalled briefly in November before being sent down again.

NHL COULD HAVE OUTDOOR GAME IN UNLIKELY LOCATION NEXT SEASON: REPORT

Friday night’s win was Rempe’s first game with the Rangers since Nov. 25. He had three goals, two assists and 22 penalty minutes in 18 games with Hartford.

He became extremely popular among Rangers fans late last season and into the postseason because of his hard-nosed style of play. He was ejected twice and received a four-game suspension for an elbow to the head of New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler in March.

The 2020 sixth-round pick has no points and 24 penalty minutes in five games for New York.

The Rangers lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday, 3-1. The team is 16-16-1 this season.

NHL could have outdoor game in unlikely location next season: report

The National Hockey League may be having one of the game's best spectacles in a surprising part of the U.S. next season.

The Florida Panthers are reportedly closing in on hosting a game at LoanDepot Park, the home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins.

It'd be the first time an outdoor game would be played in Florida in NHL history — understandably so.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM

The league did host a game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in January 2014, and Levi's Stadium in San Francisco hosted another the following year. The Cotton Bowl in Dallas was the home of the 2020 Winter Classic.

This year's Winter Classic will be held on New Year's Eve at Chicago's Wrigley Field. It will be the second Winter Classic in the ballpark, having also hosted a game on New Year's Day in 2009. Ohio Stadium, the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes' football program, is also set to host a Stadium Series game in March, featuring the Columbus Blue Jackets in their first outdoor game.

Miami would be the southernmost city to host an outdoor game — there is a catch, though.

YANKEES SIGN ACE PITCHER TO HISTORIC CONTRACT AFTER LOSING JUAN SOTO SWEEPSTAKES: REPORTS

LoanDepot Park's roof is retractable, so there does stand the chance that the room could be enclosed.

The league has hosted 41 outdoor games, and the Panthers have yet to participate in one.

Florida is the defending Stanley Cup champion, but it did not come easily. After leading the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 in the Finals, the opposition fought all the way back to force a Game 7, but the Panthers held serve at home to raise the Cup.

After the current season, the Panthers and the Utah Hockey Club will be the only two NHL franchises to not have played a game outdoors. The Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers are currently tied for the most outdoor appearances with six.

‘Jane Doe’ in Diddy lawsuit revealed to be ex-wife of NHL star: report

A woman who says Sean "Diddy" Combs and others gang-raped her in a recording studio when she was a minor was hoping to stay anonymous as the legal process played out.

However, a judge ruled her name must be used in her lawsuit.

It has since been revealed Jane Doe is Anna Kane, the ex-wife of NHL star Evander Kane.

"I had hoped to use a pseudonym in pursuing justice for what happened to me as a teenager," Anna said in a statement to multiple outlets, including TMZ. "Defendants’ demand that I use my name was an attempt to intimidate me, but I am not intimidated. I am prepared to proceed and hold accountable those who have harmed me."

Kane says Diddy and others gave her drugs and alcohol before forcibly having sex when she was still in high school at the age of 17, according to documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

RANGERS MOVE ON FROM CAPTAIN JACOB TROUBA IN TRADE WITH DUCKS AMID RECENT STRUGGLES

Evander and Anna got divorced in 2021 after Anna accused Evander of domestic violence and sexual assault and alleging Evander had thrown NHL games he had played in after betting on them.

Evander admitted to having a gambling addiction, but the NHL found no evidence he had bet on games.

He has not played this season after hitting the ice for 77 contests last season.

Diddy was denied bail last week and is still being held in a federal prison in Brooklyn on sex trafficking and racketeering charges after his arrest in September.

Rangers move on from captain Jacob Trouba in trade with Ducks amid recent struggles

The New York Rangers are trading captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks after the Broadway Blueshirts dropped to 1-6 in their last seven games and general manager Chris Drury looks to shake up the stagnant core.

Trouba, 30, was acquired by the Rangers prior to the 2019-2020 season from the Winnipeg Jets and signed a seven-year, $56 million contract with the Rangers.

Prior to the 2022-2023 season, he was named the 28th captain in team history. But his tenure with the Rangers has been a turbulent one, leading to him being scratched from the lineup Friday morning.

Trouba was scratched for roster management reasons because Drury was preparing to move on from the defenseman. In return, the Rangers are receiving 25-year-old defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Ducks.

The Ducks are also reportedly taking on the full salary of Trouba’s remaining contract through the end of next season.

While the Rangers have struggled recently, they are 13-10-1 this season and very much in the playoff hunt.

FLAMES HONOR JOHNNY GAUDREAU WITH EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE MONTHS AFTER TRAGIC DEATH OF NHL STAR AND BROTHER

The Ducks are 10-11-3 and will rely on Trouba’s leadership to help a young team grow.

The trade of Trouba continues a recent trend of unceremonious exits for recent Rangers captains:

Drury tried to trade Trouba in the offseason, but Trouba’s wife, Kelly, had a year left on her medical residency and did not want to leave New York at the time. No deal was made over the summer because Jacob had a no-trade clause, according to The Athletic.

Trouba has struggled this season with just six points in 24 games and was demoted to a third-pair defenseman. He had been a stalwart on the first or second pair most of his Rangers career.

In Anaheim, Trouba will reunite with former Rangers teammates Ryan Strome and Frank Vatrano.

The Rangers will look to get back on track when they play the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Ducks play the Minnesota Wild at 10 p.m. ET Friday, but it is unclear if Trouba will be making his Ducks debut in that game.

Flames honor Johnny Gaudreau with emotional tribute months after tragic death of NHL star and brother

The Calgary Flames paid tribute to former NHL star Johnny Gaudreau before a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, months after he and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, were tragically killed by a suspected drunk driver while riding bikes on a rural road in New Jersey the night before their sister’s wedding.

The emotional night began with a ceremonial puck drop that included Gaudreau’s parents, Jane and Guy, his two sisters and his wife, Meredith, and their two children.

Johnny Gaudreau, who played hockey at Boston College with his brother Matthew and won a national title in 20212, spent the majority of his NHL career playing for the Flames. In 2022, he signed a seven-year, $68.25 million contract with the Blue Jackets.

Tuesday night marked the first meeting of his two former teams since his tragic death on Aug. 29.

As the Gaudreau family walked toward center ice, fans broke out in "Johnny, Johnny, Johnny!" chants. Players on the ice wore Gaudreau’s name and number on their jerseys in pregame warmups.

Johnny was also honored by the Flames after their 3-0 victory over Columbus as he was named the first star of the game. His father walked out on the ice to accept the honor alongside Calgary captain Rasmus Andersson.

BLUE JACKETS HONOR JOHNNY GAUDREAU WITH EMOTIONAL TRIBUTES IN COLUMBUS' FIRST HOME GAME SINCE HIS DEATH

During the game, Andersson, who was a close friend of Johnny’s, pointed to his family seated in a Saddledome box after scoring for the Flames.

"Everyone has been so warm," Meredith said of the emotional return to Calgary. "It feels almost like you’ve never left when you are here for a couple days, so many familiar faces. And, you know, spent so much time here, so a lot of good memories."

Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were set to be groomsmen at their sister’s wedding in Philadelphia in late August. According to law enforcement at the time, the Gaudreau brothers were cycling on a road the night before the wedding when a suspected drunk driver, heading in the same direction, attempted to pass two other vehicles and struck them from behind.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

NHL goalie inexplicably puts lead goal in own net

Charlie Lindgren gave the Tampa Bay Lightning the biggest gift any team could ask for on Wednesday night.

Lindgren was the netminder for the Washington Capitals in Florida on Thanksgiving Eve with the game tied at 3 in the third period.

Well, because of him, that was no longer the case.

As a puck trickled into the Washington zone on the defensive side, Lindgren came out of the crease to play it. Lindgren was aiming to pass it to a teammate, but the net got in his way.

Instead of a pass, Lindgren backhanded the puck directly into his own net, giving the Lightning a 4-3 lead.

Thankfully for the Caps, the mind-boggling goal didn’t crush them too much as they wound up winning the game anyway.

NHL PLAYER RUPTURED TESTICLE AFTER TAKING PUCK TO GROIN

Roughly three minutes after the error, John Carlson tied the game with his third goal of the season. Then, with about five minutes left in regulation, the Caps went on the power play, and Tom Wilson scored what wound up being the game-winning goal.

Lindgren came into the contest with a 2.64 GAA. Unfortunately for him, that number went up with his own work.

Lindgren led the NHL in shutouts last year with six, finishing in eighth place in the Vezina voting in what was a career year.

He quickly found his groove after becoming a full-time starter, but the own-goal was certainly one he’d like to have back.

Ex-NHL player Paul Bissonnette assaulted by 6 men at Arizona restaurant: 'It escalated extremely quickly'

Paul Bissonnette, a former NHL player and hockey analyst on TNT, was assaulted by six men at a restaurant in Arizona on Sunday night after he alleged that a group of "drunk golfers" were causing a scene after being refused service.

Bissonnette, who last played in the league for the Arizona Coyotes, released a video statement on social media on Monday after news broke that six men were arrested and are facing charges of assault and disorderly conduct for the incident that took place at Houston’s restaurant in Scottsdale.

The former hockey player, who also hosts a podcast on Barstool, gave his version of events in a video posted on X. He explained that the incident took place at a restaurant he frequents and that he became involved after he saw one of the men become physical with the restaurant’s manager.

"I go to dinner at this place called Houston’s – I go there like three or four times a week. The staff’s incredible, the food’s incredible and, just like good people, I love going there," he began.

"At one point there was a bit of a ruckus going on in the bar – it was a bunch of drunk golfers. Things obviously continued to escalate. They asked one guy to leave, and then one guy kept getting in the manager’s face, put his hands on him, and that went on for probably 30–45 seconds. You could tell he was a little shocked and surprised and stunned.

"It’s a family restaurant, I don’t think there was anybody in there who could go maybe help him out. So I went over, I just grabbed the guy's arm that was on [the manager]. I said ‘Sir, if you continue to harass and assault the staff, we’re gonna have problems.’ And then they just started chucking. So, it escalated extremely quickly. I think it was seven guys I fought with throughout the course of the restaurant all the way into the parking lot over to CVS."

NHL PLAYER RUPTURED TESTICLE AFTER TAKING PUCK TO GROIN

Bissonnette, 39, said the fight spilled out into the street and claimed that he was kicked in the head several times. He said he was taken to the hospital as a result.

"Got taken down a couple of times. I got boot f---ed in the head three times by the CVS – luckily didn’t get knocked out," he said in the video.

"Just like bad dudes. Way too drunk and I don’t know what else they had in their system, but yeah, I’m very, very angry at these guys and kind of want their names out there and want them to pay the piper. Just unacceptable behavior at a family restaurant just because they couldn’t grab another cocktail and didn’t want to hear ‘No’ for an answer. Like I said, at that point with the guy all over the manager I just figured I had to go over."

According to FOX10, Scottsdale police arrested six men involved in the fight on charges of assault and disorderly conduct. Five are facing misdemeanors and the sixth is facing a felony. They were not identified by law enforcement, according to the report.

"There was an altercation inside the restaurant with six adult men and the management. Reportedly, Paul Bissonnette tried to help management calm the men and get them to leave. The situation escalated to the men assaulting Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside of the restaurant," Scottsdale Police Sgt. Allison Sempsis told the station.

Bissonnette played in the NHL from 2008-2014, spending his final six seasons with the Arizona Coyotes.

NHL player ruptured testicle after taking puck to groin

Mats Zuccarello took a puck where no man ever wants to be hit.

The Minnesota Wild star was in front of the net in a game against the Montreal Canadiens Nov. 14, when a shot hit him in the groin.

Zuccarello immediately dropped to the ice and needed help leaving the rink.

Zuccarello has not played since.

According to teammate Marcus Foligno, Zuccarello ruptured a testicle.

"Poor guy got hit where the sun don’t shine, and it ruptured his testicle. He can’t even lift anything," Foligno told the 93X "Half-Assed Morning Show" Wednesday.

Foligno said he and his teammates "thought he was gonna lose one nut."

"But it actually survived, and he’s got them both still," Foligno added.

Folgino said Zuccarello's protective cup had a "massive dent in it."

ALEX OVECHKIN'S QUEST TO BREAK WAYNE GRETZKY'S COVETED NHL RECORD ON HOLD AFTER BRUTAL INJURY

"It was hilarious," Foligno said. "It’s funny after, now that he’s OK."

Zuccarello underwent surgery after the injury, and he's expected to miss about four weeks.

Zuccarello is fourth on the team with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) and has skated on the first line with three-time All-Star Kirill Kaprizov and center Marco Rossi.

"Zuccy’s such an important part of the team. I’ve really enjoyed coaching him. He’s a veteran player. He’s an extreme competitor. He’s got great hockey sense, his value on the power play, obviously his chemistry with Kirill. But, to me, the way he’s come in this year and he’s played, he’s a real key guy," head coach John Hynes said.

"That being said, he’s played a long time, too. So, I know when he comes back, he’s going to be back to where he is."

This is Zuccarello's 15th season in the NHL. He spent his first nine with the New York Rangers before a brief stint in Dallas with the Stars. He joined Minnesota in 2019.

Alex Ovechkin's quest to break Wayne Gretzky's coveted NHL record on hold after brutal injury

Alex Ovechkin was on a hot streak, and it became a matter of when, not if, he would eventually break Wayne Gretzky's record for the most goals in NHL history.

But the future Hall of Famer's quest for that record will have to wait.

After scoring two goals Monday, Ovechkin left the game with a lower-body injury.

On Thursday, the Washington Capitals announced it is a broken fibula that will keep Ovechkin out four to six weeks.

The Capitals updated Ovechkin’s status Thursday after he was evaluated by team doctors upon returning from a three-game trip. The 39-year-old broke his leg in a shin-on-shin collision Monday night with Utah's Jack McBain, and some of his closest teammates knew it was not good news even before Ovechkin was listed as week to week and placed on injured reserve.

Ovechkin had a hat trick in the previous game and leads the league with 15 goals this season.

Ovechkin in his first 19 seasons missed 59 games and just 35 due to injury. Durability, even while throwing his body around with his physical style, is a big reason he is on track to pass Gretzky’s mark of 894 goals that once looked unapproachable.

CANUCKS STAR JT MILLER LEAVES TEAM FOR PERSONAL REASONS

Ovechkin has 868 and needs 27 to surpass "The Great One."

He was on pace to break the record and score No. 895 sometime in February.

For the record, if Gretzky never scored a goal his entire career, he still would have the most points ever.

Canucks star JT Miller leaves team for personal reasons

Vancouver Canucks star J.T. Miller has taken an indefinite leave of absence for personal reasons, the team announced Tuesday.

Miller has played for the Canucks since the 2019-20 season after spending time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers. He was an All-Star for the first time last season.

So far this year, he’s appeared in 17 games this season, scoring six goals and tallying 10 assists.

"Right now, our sole focus is making sure that J.T. knows the entire organization is here to support him," general manager Patrik Allvin said. "Out of respect to J.T., we will have no further comment at this time."

The team did not say what sparked the leave.

NHL REF LEAVES GAME ON STRETCHER AFTER COLLIDING WITH AVALANCHE PLAYER

"Obviously, he’s a massive part of our team and a superstar in the league. So any time you miss a guy like that, you’re going to feel it," Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes said. "But at the same time, we have a lot of confidence in the guys we have here. Coming into the year we thought we had a contending team, and it’s not just one guy, it’s our whole group."

Last year, Miller finished with 37 goals and 66 assists. His 103 points was a career-high.

"Obviously, a very big hole to fill. But we wish him well in his personal matter, and we’re here to support him, the whole organization," Elias Pettersson said.

NHL ref leaves game on stretcher after colliding with Avalanche player

NHL referee Mitch Dunning was stretchered off of the ice during a game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night.

Dunning was skating away from the puck when Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson collided with him in the first period. Dunning hit the ice hard and was down for several moments as trainers and medical staff came out and attended to him.

He was later taken off the ice on a stretcher.

"Referee Mitch Dunning has been taken to hospital for precautionary reasons following a collision in the @Avalanche / @NHLFlyers game," the league said in a post on X. "All neurological signs are normal, he is fully communicative and can move all his extremities."

The game was delayed several minutes.

BLUES PLAYER HIT IN NECK WITH PUCK, KEEPS PLAYING BEFORE EVENTUALLY BEING STRETCHERED OFF

Dunning is a former professional hockey player in the Ontario Hockey League. He played parts of three seasons with the Sarnia Sting and Windsor Spitfires. He suffered a serious knee injury during the 2010-11 season with the Spitfires.

He retired from hockey after he played for Windsor University during the 2012-13 season and turned to coaching before eventually getting into officiating in the Windsor Essex Referee Association in 2014.

He worked his way up the officiating ladder through the OHL, East Coast Hockey League, American Hockey League and later the NHL. He was offered a minor league refereeing contract in 2018 and promoted to the NHL in 2022.

Dunning’s first NHL game was between the Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators in March 2019, according to his NHL Officials Association bio.
