Rivals is coming back for a second season — but is every cast member returning?
Based on Jilly Cooper‘s novel of the same name, Disney+ and Hulu’s Rivals centers around a feud between two men fighting for control of a television station in 1980s Britain. Rivals stars an ensemble cast made up of Aidan Turner, David Tennant, Alex Hassell, Bella MacLean, Nafessa Williams, Katherine Parkinson, Victoria Smurfit, Emily Atack and Danny Dyer.
The first season ended with several major cliffhangers after Declan (Turner), Rupert (Hassell) and Freddie’s (Dyer) Venturer beat out Tony’s (Tennant) Corinium for the franchise recommendation. Things took a turn when Tony learned about Cameron’s (Williams) relationship with Rupert and lashed out by attacking her. Cameron defended herself, and it remains unclear whether Tony is still alive by the end of the season 1 finale.
Meanwhile, Declan had his own issues after his wife, Maud (Smurfit), decided to leave for an acting opportunity. Declan will also likely end up at odds with Rupert after telling his friend not to pursue anything with his daughter, Taggie (MacLean). Rupert broke that promise at the end of the first season when he finally kissed Taggie despite being in a relationship with Cameron.
What would Rivals be without Rupert at the center of it all? Luckily, we don’t have to find out because Hassell is reprising the role in season 2.
“I hope the road to true love is bumpy. I hope that Rupert isn’t changed too quickly and too much,” he teased exclusively to Us Weekly in December 2024. “Part of the pleasure is what Rupert does and gets up to …what a mischief maker he is — on some level — and that he has these huge blind spots.”

A major change from the book was Cameron beating up Tony instead of the other way around. The season 1 finale left Tony’s fate unclear as he bled out in his office, with executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins previously addressing whether Tony was actually dead.
“There are so many possibilities about what could happen, but what we do know is revenge is a dish best served on television,” Collins told TV Insider in October 2024.
Luckily, viewers don’t have to wait until the show airs because the official Rivals social media account teased Tennant’s attendance at the first cast script read for season 2.

Declan — and his mustache — are returning for season 2 of Rivals.
“I was making an excuse with the showrunner Dominic [Treadwell-Collins]. I was saying, ‘I need to keep this mustache for a few weeks because we have reshoots.’ And he said, ‘OK, maybe a week or so.’ And sure enough we did do some reshoots,” Turner recalled to Us in December 2024. “But I remember at the time thinking, ‘I really don’t want to get rid of this.’ And when the reshoots were done, I think I kept it for another week when I didn’t need to.”
He added: “I kind of lied to a few friends saying that they might call us back for more reshoots. I wasn’t ready to get rid of it — and that’s never happened to me before. I think the universe does tell us things and there’s something in that. There’s a reason why I didn’t want to get rid of it. I enjoyed the show so much and I really responded to this character and I didn’t want the world to be over.”

Declan and Maud’s marriage reached a breaking point in the finale, but is this the end?
“She’s sacrificed a lot. It’s slowly dawning on Declan — it comes in waves where he’ll get a lot of it and then he’ll sort of try to shake it up because of the guilt and the shame that’s surrounded with that and get busy again. Then it’ll come back again,” Turner told Us in December 2024. “It’s by the end of the season that it’s really dawning on him the damage that he’s caused.”
Turner wasn’t sure where the story would go from here.
“It always felt to me that Declan has a very complicated and complex relationship with his wife and with his family. But it always felt very real to me. So I always had a door in that didn’t feel like I needed to struggle for it. He is a good guy, essentially,” he noted. “He loves his family and he just wants to be with him. But of course there’s ego and there’s all of these other things that get complicated. Life is tricky and complicated and not what you think it’s going to be. It’s just an understanding of that.”

Williams was seen in footage from the script read through in May 2025. Before the cast reunited, Us spoke to Turner about the chances of Cameron and Declan developing a romance.
“With the Cameron situation, they work very well together. And in the [book], there’s a project they’re both working on outside of the country that brings them both away,” Turner shared with Us in December 2024. “And I think their friendship and their relationship is put to the test. That is all I can say. I don’t want to say too much.”

After ending season 1 on a cliffhanger for Rupert and Taggie, their story is just getting started.
“I’m really intrigued. There’s so many obstacles in our way and Rupert is really conflicted morally. I wonder what will happen now with Taggie,” MacLean exclusively told Us in December 2024. “It will be a lot more bumpy, but what that means for Taggie is a really interesting thing. There’s loads of ideas being thrown around. We’ve got to get season 2 fast.”
Lizzie and Freddie spent the entire first season fighting their feelings for each other until they finally slept together in the finale. Season 2 is expected to address the aftermath since Lizzie is married to James while Freddie is married to Valerie.

Season 1 introduced Sarah as Paul’s (Rufus Jones) wife who was often unfaithful with Rupert and later James. She found out that she’s expecting a child at the end of season 1 — except it’s unclear who the father is. Season 2 is expected to return to address that.
After filming the final season of You, Griffin Matthews made a surprise change in his life by moving overseas.
“I moved to Spain. I left America to try and expand my life and expand my artistry,” Matthews, 42, exclusively told Us Weekly while discussing his arc on season 5 of You. “I’m really looking forward to writing my own show, which I’m currently developing.”
Matthews clarified that his involvement in the entertainment industry hasn’t changed, adding, “It is time for us to see a character that I have played many, many times. I tend to play the same position on TV but I don’t ever see my position as No. 1 on the call sheet. So I’m writing the show for myself and I hope that it happens and everyone gets to see what it is to be in that position.”
While reflecting on his move, Matthews, who shares two kids with husband Matt Gould, acknowledged there were ups and downs.
“It’s been both easy because Madrid is incredible — and it is easy in that way — but it is difficult and it’s hard to immigrate so I have an entirely new respect for immigrants,” he shared. “Obviously, our country is having a lot of conversations about immigrants and I think we don’t give them enough credit.”
Matthews broke down his commitment to his new life in Spain, telling Us, “I’m in Spanish school five days a week, four hours a day learning Spanish. I am expanding my artistry. I actually attended a cinema festival where I’m seeing movies that could never be made in America. But they’re being made here and it’s just incredible work.”
Netflix
He continued: “I am so excited to expand my capabilities of storytelling and language. It’s where we’re at in the world right now. We need to take a pause and learn about other people. For me, the best way to do it and for my children was to pick up and grow and start a new life.”
Matthews has already been doing the work that comes with inclusive storytelling since becoming an actor. His most recent role was Teddy Lockwood in Netflix’s hit series You, which allowed Matthews to prioritize authenticity with his performance.
“We had many, many calls with our showrunners. The showrunners gave me a lot of freedom to make sure that Teddy felt authentic. I had the space to say, ‘I think in this particular scenario, a Black person in 2024 is going to say it like this,'” he recalled to Us. “We had to tackle race and culture and privilege. I wanted people who looked like me to see the show and recognize themselves on screen. So I was so lucky that our showrunners were so open to conversations.”
Matthews noted that Teddy’s appearance was a good example of his involvement, adding, “We did an entire conversation about hair. I spent more time in the hair chair than any of the women on our show: four hours. We were just going hours and hours a day trying to craft a look because Teddy starts with an afro and then as the season progresses, he finally makes it to the end. I wanted him to look the way that he would look in Harlem — but now he’s the CEO.”
There were also discussions about how to capture Teddy properly through his personal life.
“I’ve played many gay men on television and I’ve never had a Black boyfriend or husband. So when I found out that Teddy had a husband and a son, I said ‘It might be interesting if we cast another Black actor and maybe a Black child. Because it will say something about who Teddy is when he’s not inside of this particular world. It will tell the viewer that Teddy is completely outside of this culture, that he’s a fish out of water when he’s in that office,'” Matthews explained. “I give the showrunners a lot of credit because they really heard some of the ideas that I had and implemented them in really, really special and beautiful ways.”

In the case of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Hargitay, she learned as an adult that her late mother, Jayne Mansfield, had a secret fling that resulted in her birth. In another astounding story, Jackie Chan was abandoned by his parents as a young boy when they fled persecution from the Chinese government.
Some of these celebrities and their biological parents were able to find catharsis when they finally reunited, though there are notable instances where families have been torn apart entirely. Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy conceded on The Drew Barrymore Show that a startling discovery about her biological dad damaged her relationship with the man who raised her.
“That was a relationship I sort of let dissolve [and] disintegrate,” McCurdy said in 2022. “There wasn’t really much there to begin with.”

Mariska Hargitay

In the 2025 documentary My Mom Jayne, Mariska revealed for the first time that the man who’d raised her — bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay — wasn’t her biological dad.
Her mother, Hollywood icon Mansfield, split from husband Mickey — with whom she had two other children — and engaged in a brief affair with Italian singer Nelson Sardelli. The fling was short-lived, and Mansfield soon returned to Mickey once she learned she was pregnant. They raised the child together until Mansfield was tragically killed in a car accident that also severely injured 3-year-old Mariska in 1967.
Mariska found out Sardelli was her biological father in her 20s, though Mickey denied it all in his one and only conversation about the topic with the Law & Order star. Nonetheless, Mariska forged a relationship with Sardelli and his family that continues to this day.
“I do know that everyone made the best choice for me,” she told Vanity Fair. “I’m Mickey Hargitay’s daughter — that is not a lie.”
Orlando Bloom

The Pirates of the Caribbean star grew up believing that his mother Sonia Bloom’s husband, the novelist Harry Bloom, was his biological dad. Harry died at age 68 in 1981 when Orlando was just 4 years old.
At age 13, Orlando’s mother told him that his biological father was actually family friend Colin Stone. Colin had taken an active role in helping Sonia raise Orlando even before the future Lord of the Rings star learned the truth.
“We would always spend weekends with [Colin],” Orlando told The Timesin 2020. “He was trying to be there for me in his own way, but he was busy. When I first found out, I was like, ‘Great, when can I move in with you?’ But that didn’t happen. He was married. And that was quite hard for me.”
His mother, Sonia, insisted to Hello! Magazine in 2003 that her son grew up with “a very happy background” despite the family secret.
“Orlando is not sad,” she insisted. “It was marvelous when he learned that Colin was his father. He was brought up surrounded by a loving family.”
Liv Tyler

The Lord of the Rings actress grew up with mother Bebe Buell and her on-off rocker boyfriend Todd Rundgren. While Todd signed Liv’s birth certificate as her father, Buell kept hidden that Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler was actually Liv’s biological dad.
Steven wrote in his memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?: A Rock ‘n’ Roll Memoir, that he first learned about Liv’s existence in 1980. Liv noticed her own physical similarities to Steven as she grew up and finally put the pieces together when she spotted her half-sister Mia Tyler at one of Rundgren’s concerts.
“I kind of figured it out [that Steven is my father] because he looks exactly like me and I have sister, named Mia, who is a year younger than me,” Liv recalled on The Jonathan Ross Show. “I saw her, standing on the side of the stage at a concert, and literally, it was like looking at a twin. She looked exactly like me. I looked at my mom and she had tears in her eyes. I kind of put it all together.”
Liv went on to star in Aerosmith’s “Crazy” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” music videos. However, she admitted on the “Sibling Revelry” podcast in April 2025 that her relationship with Rundgren suffered once she reconnected with Steven.
“I think it’s probably still very hard and painful,” Liv reflected. “I don’t speak to him enough, I love him and I have brothers from him and I had a whole family with them. But I was a kid, so it was really hard because he was mad at my mom, and then suddenly Steven was there and we did a paternity test and it was positive and so we moved to New York. I think I was 11 or 12.”
Rundgren discussed the awkward situation with WXPN in April 2019, admitting that Steven’s involvement impacted his own relationship with Liv for many years.
“Fortunately, there is a happy ending there,” he said. “Just talking about the way everything came about, what happened during the relationship. It was always the one subject in my life that I was most sensitive about; my relationship with Bebe, and such. For years, I was very upset about the fact that [Liv] essentially forgot that I was her father. Things turned out to be a lot of fun for her. I got completely sidelined for a while, and I got bent out of shape about it.”
Jack Nicholson

The Batman actor learned in a truly shocking way that the woman who raised him was not his biological mother. A Time reporter broke the news to Nicholson in 1974 that the woman he’d always thought was his mother, Ethel May, was actually his grandmother, and his “sister,” June Nicholson, was actually his biological mom. Because June got pregnant at age 17, her parents agreed to bring up Jack as their own child.
Jack was informed by the magazine’s researchers that his biological father was alive and living in New Jersey. This revelation was particularly difficult for Jack because he couldn’t discuss it with his mother or grandmother — they died in 1963 and 1970, respectively.
“Both grandmother and mother were deceased before this particular group of facts came to my attention,” Jack told Rolling Stone in 1986. “I was very impressed by their ability to keep the secret, if nothing else. It’s done great things for me.”
He went on, “I mean, I don’t have to question the abortion issue in my mind. It’s an open-and-shut case where I’m concerned. As an illegitimate child born in 1937, during the Depression, to a broken lower-middle-class family, you are a candidate for — you’re an automatic abortion with most people today. So it’s very easy for me. I don’t have to get into the debate of when does the thing come alive. And I’m very pleased to be out of it, ’cause it’s not an easy issue.”
Daisy Lowe

Daisy discovered as a teenager that her mother, fashion designer Pearl Lowe, hid the truth about her father being Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. Until she was 15, the model believed her mom Pearl’s ex-lover Bronner Handwerger was her dad and that Rossdale was her godfather.
The revelation had huge repercussions on the lives of everyone involved. Pearl wrote in her memoir All That Glitters that Rossdale — who was married to Gwen Stefani at the time — was furious when a DNA test confirmed he was indeed Daisy’s dad.
“Daisy beamed when I told her the result. … Later that day I emailed Gavin,” Pearl wrote. “There was no response. When Daisy eventually succeeded in speaking to him, Gavin appeared more concerned with venting his anger about my behavior than engaging with his daughter. All this was very hard on Daisy. She spent most days in tears but it is a testimony to her maturity and strength of character that after she overcame her initial hurt she got on with her life.”
Father and daughter eventually mended fences, with Daisy telling The Guardian in 2015 that it was a long and difficult process to forge a relationship with the rocker.
“I was so happy the day I found out Gavin was my dad,” she said. “I’d always looked up to him. But it was still a s***show trying to get over it. There’s no handbook. As a 15-year-old you have to pull yourself together anyway.”
Daisy confirmed on “That Gaby Roslin Podcast” in 2022 that she’d become close to Gavin and Gwen’s three children — Kingston, born in 2006, Zuma, born in 2008, and Apollo, born in 2014. (Rossdale and Stefani split in 2015.)
“I love them all so dearly,” she said. “I FaceTime with my brothers over in L.A. at least once a week. Kingston is the same age as [my sister] Betty actually. Zuma and Apollo are a bit younger, a bit less into FaceTime understandably. Whenever I go to L.A. I always have the best time with those boys. They’re such brilliant kids.”
Gavin made a rare public comment about his relationship with Daisy after she got engaged to real estate agent Jordan Saul in 2022. (Daisy and Jordan welcomed daughter Ivy Love in April 2023.)
“Daisy has just got engaged. I played some music to her fiancé, my future son-in-law, when they were with me in L.A. and he wrote to me that he loved the new tracks,” he revealed to Metro in 2022. “He’s a budding amateur fighter, so I think he just likes the strength. I don’t know what else he likes but he’s a really good person so I’m super excited about him.”
Jennette McCurdy

Jennette wrote the powerful memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died about her troubled childhood and abuse she endured from her mother, Debra McCurdy, who died in 2013.
Following Debra’s death, her husband, Mark McCurdy, began dating one of Debra’s closest friends, a woman referred to as Karen in I’m Glad My Mom Died. With Karen’s encouragement, Mark told Jennette that he wasn’t her biological father.
“I remember feeling like I got the wind knocked out of me. My mouth was really dry,” she recalled on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2022. “I think I hugged him and his then-girlfriend sort of, like, joined the hug, and she was well-meaning, but I was like, OK, this is just a hug between us two.’”
The Nickelodeon actress said she was ultimately disappointed in the way Mark revealed the shocking news.
“[He said,] ‘It’s not your fault you were born.’ Then he repeated it, he doubled down and then tripled down,” she said. “I thought, ‘This is the weirdest thing to say to somebody after you’ve just told them you’re not their biological father.’”
Jennette recalled feeling equally stunned to learn her biological dad was a local jazz musician, whom she referred to in the book as Andrew. The iCarly actress went with costar Miranda Cosgrove and other friends to introduce herself to Andrew at one of his concerts.
Andrew confirmed to Jennette that he’d known he was her father all along but never reached out because he wasn’t sure whether Debra ever told Mark the truth.
During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Jennette said that the revelation made sense in hindsight because she “always felt” Mark was “pretty disengaged and disconnected” throughout her childhood.
“That was a relationship I sort of let dissolve [and] disintegrate,” she said. “There wasn’t really much there to begin with.”
Tim McGraw
Tug McGraw and son Tim McGraw in 1994Thomas S. England/Getty Images
Tim opened up on Q With Tom Power about meeting his father, legendary New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies baseball player Tug McGraw, at age 18.
Tug had a brief fling with Tim’s mother, Betty Ann D’Agostino, when they lived in the same Florida apartment building. Once D’Agostino became pregnant, her family sent her away to Louisiana and later led Tim to believe D’Agostino’s first husband, Horace Smith, was his father. Tim finally learned the truth at age 11 when he found his birth certificate.
Tug denied being Tim’s father for seven years but eventually agreed to meet him. In his 2023 interview, Tim recalled being presented with a legal letter by Tug when they met.
“We sat there in silence for about five minutes just looking at each other,” Tim remembered. “And I finally said, ‘Look, I’m happy to sign this [legal agreement] and I’ll get out of your hair. It’s not about the money. I’ll work three jobs if I have to. It’s not a big deal. I just want to know, do you think you’re my father?’ And he said [to me], ‘Yeah, I think so. I know so.’”
According to Tim, Tug then offered to tear up the legal agreement so they could forge a relationship.
“He said, ‘I want you to be part of my family,’” Tim said, before revealing with a laugh: “I didn’t hear from him for a year.”
Tug died at age 59 in January 2004 after being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Tim honored his father by spreading his ashes on the pitcher’s mound at the Phillies’ home stadium Citizens Bank Park during the 2008 World Series.
Jackie Chan

The 2003 documentary Traces of the Dragon: Jackie Chan and His Lost Family delves into the action star’s extraordinary background as the son of a Shanghai gambler (his mother, Lee-lee Chan) and a clandestine political operative (his father, Charles Chan). Under political pressure, Jackie’s parents fled China in 1949 and later left 6-year-old Jackie behind to attend school in Hong Kong when they moved to Australia in 1962.
“The fact that his mother was an opium smuggler, a gambler and a ‘Big Sister’ in the underworld was a big shock to Jackie and also to us,” Traces of a Dragon director Mabel Cheung told The Guardian in 2003. “Everybody in Hong Kong knew that his mother was like a common housewife, very kind, very gentle.”
Jackie reconnected with his parents a few years later. In the 1990s, Jackie learned his real name was actually Fang Shilong, as his father had changed their family’s surname from Fang to Chan to avoid scrutiny from the Chinese government. He was told his parents each had two other children from previous marriages, whom Jackie had never known of.
The entire family was eventually reunited in Australia in the late 1990s.
Sean Astin

The Stranger Things actor’s mother, Hollywood icon Patty Duke, was involved in three romances around the same period in 1970 with then-17-year-old Desi Arnaz Jr., Addams Family star John Astin (who was married to Suzanne Hahn at the time) and rock music promoter Michael Tell.
Duke quickly married Tell when she got pregnant, but their union only lasted 13 days. She raised her son Sean to believe John was his father since they eventually got together following John’s 1972 divorce.
Duke confessed to Sean when he was 14 that Arnaz was actually his biological father — though Sean eventually learned this was not true. Sean underwent a DNA test to confirm that Tell was his biological father all along, despite Duke’s insistence that she’d never consummated her 13-day marriage.
Sean told People in 2001 that he was able to develop “a good relationship” with Tell, though he would always think of John as a father.
“I don’t fault anybody, I don’t fault myself or with Desi, who is like my godfather, I have such a powerful love bond with this man, he’s a gorgeous human being,” Sean said.
Duke remained skeptical about the possibility of Tell being her son’s father, telling People in 2001 that she simply “didn’t buy the [DNA] test.”
“I can support [Sean’s] truth as long as my truth, if not supported, is respected. I have told him I know what I know to be true,” she insisted. “When God looks me in the eye and says, ‘Anna Marie [her real name], you have been mistaken all these years,’ then I will consider [Tell’s paternity].”
Duke died at age 69 in 2016 from sepsis caused by a ruptured intestine.
Wynonna Judd

In the 2025 docuseries The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, Wynonna opened up about her famously complicated relationship with late mother Naomi Judd. The country music icon grew up believing her mother’s first husband, Michael Ciminella, was her biological father but learned in her 30s that she was conceived during Naomi’s brief fling with another man, Charles Jordan.
“There was all this pressure and everybody kinda freaked out, and [Jordan] went off to join the Army,” Wynonna explained. “Look, I understand it, but I was really angry with her about it. I was so devastated that I thought there was a part of me that’s missing. The glass is half empty. Learning about my birth father, I feel more like him than I do my mother in certain areas. And I think Mom was terrified of that half of me because she couldn’t control it. She couldn’t bring it in and train it. That’s why Mom was very hard on me.”
Wynonna never got a chance to meet her biological dad because Jordan died in 2000. Naomi died by suicide at age 76 in April 2022.

Peering into the lives of the rich and spoiled has always been popular — and these days, the worse they act, the more we love them.
We are a nation of voyeurs, and our fixation with other people’s lives — both fictional and not — is often directed upward, to folks dripping with wealth, privilege and Botox. The best part? Those with the most often act with the least: that is, the least self-awareness, decorum and general connection to reality.
From unscripted reality shows like the Real Housewives franchise and The Kardashians to irresistible dramas like the current AppleTV+ hit Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm as an unemployed hedge fund manager who steals from his wealthy friends, and the HBO sensation The White Lotus, which focuses on the most cluelessly wealthy people ever, we are totally obsessed with rich people behaving badly.
That’s not new: “When there was a recession in the early ‘80s, shows like Dallas and Dynasty proved hugely popular,” Broadcast historian Finola Doyle has told Metro. “They were luxe and opulent. They were a form of escapism. There were fewer of those shows in the ‘90s and noughties, and more of a focus on gritty realism. The economy was performing better, so there wasn’t such a chasm.” Enter Swamp People, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty, three reality shows The Hollywood Reporter called part of cable TV’s major “blue collar boom” back in 2013.
So, what’s happening now? Clinical psychologist Sarah Bishop tells Glamour, “In times of economic uncertainty, such as a cost-of-living crisis, people often seek escapism through media. Watching the privileged can trigger social comparison processes. People may feel better about their own lives when they observe the flaws and failures of the wealthy, as this reinforces the notion that happiness and success are not solely determined by wealth.” Meaning, a lot of us in ordinary towns with ordinary jobs and ordinary hair that just sort of hangs down instead of swishing sumptuously may never own a mansion in the Hamptons or sashay into a gorgeous beach resort in Sicily, but at least we’re not so miserable.
When the people on Badly Behaved Rich People shows scream, cry, brawl or throw a tantrum because they didn’t get the biggest room on vacation, it’s a welcome reminder that money can buy all the handbags, but not all the happiness.
Watching Housewives flaunt their money and make terrible choices gives us the thrill of feeling morally superior, even for just a minute, to people who technically have it all. When they mess up, it’s a delicious kind of justice — way tastier than caviar (at least, we imagine). Whether it’s passive-aggressive dinner parties or a meltdown in a mansion, we’re hooked on all the compelling chaos and, sometimes, cruelty behind those perfect blow-dries and infinity kitchen islands.
And yet, despite these people’s lives often being way more of a disaster zone than our own, we still want to be a little more like them, too. As Zoe Williams of The Guardian says of White Lotus season 3 compared with its first, “It feels a lot more like early 21st-century wealth porn.” We’re disillusioned with wealth but still seduced by the fantasy.
The stats don’t lie: Style videos tagged “rich mom energy” have had over 100 million views and counting on TikTok and many clothing retailers optimize their products on Google for “rich mom fashion” search terms. And that makes perfect sense. Maybe still, deep down, we believe that if we could only access all that these obsessively watchable and chronically extra people have, we’d be better off.
Williams and Strong met while acting at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2004 when they were both in their early 20s. The actors weren’t starring in the same production at the time — Williams appeared in The Cherry Orchard while Strong starred in Haroun and the Sea of Stories — but they struck up a bond nonetheless.
“We were both very young without real access to an interior of a life in the theater or in cinema,” Williams recalled during a May 2025 appearance on NPR’s “Fresh Air” podcast. “We were hungry, we were wanting and striving. That is hard and takes a lot of effort and also a lot of doggedness to keep at it.”
That same year, Williams filmed Brokeback Mountain, during which she started a romantic relationship with costar Heath Ledger. She and Ledger welcomed their daughter Matilda in 2005. They split in 2007, months before his death.
Ledger died at age 28 in 2008 following an accidental drug overdose, and Williams’ friendship with Strong helped her cope with his passing.
Keep scrolling for a breakdown of Williams and Strong’s friendship:
His Bond With Matilda
Williams was asked about Strong — and his method acting following a controversial New Yorker article at the time — during a 2022 interview with Variety. She spoke candidly about the Succession alum’s character and how he helped her daughter following Ledger’s death.

“Jeremy was serious enough to hold the weight of a child’s broken heart and sensitive enough to understand how to approach her through play and games and silliness,” Williams said. “[Matilda] didn’t grow up with her father, but she grew up with her Jeremy and we were changed by his ability to play as though his life depended upon it, because hers did.”
She added, “We’ve watched him work harder than anyone and wait a long time for other people to recognize it. So, when he became so celebrated, we all celebrated.”
Naming Her House
The Variety article revealed that Strong moved into Williams’ house following Ledger’s death. She offered more details about that time in her life during a May 2025 appearance on NPR’s “Fresh Air” podcast.
“There were, sort of, multiple people going in and out of that house,” Williams said, noting that she had two friends — including Strong — and her sister living there. “We had a name, I think maybe Jeremy came up with it, and he called it Fort Awesome. It was like Pippi Longstocking or something. Something [like] what you imagine as a child, you imagine this place where you could go, and you could make some of the rules and you would be together, and it would be full of fun and play and ideas and personalities and acceptance and love. … I think that was kind of like what that time was. It was like Fort Awesome.”
Their Familial Bond
During the same podcast episode, Williams said she and Strong have raised their children “in great proximity” to one another. (Along with Matilda, Williams shares three kids with husband Thomas Kail. Strong is the father of three daughters with wife Emma Wall.)
“He would be engaged for as long as Matilda wanted to be on fairy princesses or tea parties or dress up,” she recalled. “I think I was trying to communicate that there’s another aspect to this person, this friend of mine who I love so much, and to shine a little light on that.”
Praising His Worth Ethic
While Strong’s dedication to his career has received widespread criticism, Williams had nothing but praise for her friend.
“I think it’s really inspiring to see the way that he’s held on to that work ethic, even though he has now such great success in so many accolades,” she said during her “Fresh Air” appearance. “He’s still working, like, banging on that door, just like when we were young. And I really admire that.”
There are few humans in the world as mysterious and hard to shop for than the common dad. While it can be easy to neglect poor ol’ pop on the 16th most important gift-giving event of the year, please don’t.
We have it on good authority (mom’s) that despite what he claims, he’d be disappointed to not get a gift on Father’s Day.
If you’re lucky enough to have a dad to spoil on Father’s Day, our picks below are guaranteed to delight every hard-to-shop for patriarch. Whether he loves professional wrestling, grilling or wants to be left alone with a slice of pie, these thoughtful Father’s Day gifts are guaranteed to make him smile.
There's something truly rewarding about making a big honking breakfast. Whether you're cooking enough bacon for a small army or flipping pancakes like a pro, the sense of accomplishment is staggering. That might be why griddles, like this versatile and polished one from Smithey, are so popular.
Designed for enduring quality, Smithey's pieces make excellent heirlooms. Dads and their proteges alike will enjoy the smooth surface, which makes cleanup a breeze, and the classy stainless steel handles, because … well, who doesn’t want elegant cookware?
This combination of legacy-building and breakfast creation, unsurprisingly, holds particular appeal to dads, making it a perfect gift for Father’s Day.
It’s no secret, dads love golf. Perhaps it’s the combination of stillness and barely-there exercise, or perhaps there’s nothing quite like the feeling of nailing a golf ball as hard as you can across a sea of green.
And while it can be an impossible task to buy your dad a new diver (as he already knows what he wants but won’t tell you,) this limited edition Owala is hole-in-one! Not only does it come with Owala’s signature, beloved FreeSip spout, but it’s also dimpled to feel like a golfball. And that’s cute. Like all Owala drink ware, the triple layer insulation keeps dad’s iced tea cold for all 18 holes.
As I grow older, I’ve learned a thing or two about dads. Universally, they like to get stuff done, move at their own pace and they all love sitting (finally, something my dad and I have in common.) And if I had to recommend something for the sitting connoisseur, it’d be this Steelcase Karman chair.
Despite being comfortable and customizable, it’s also not an eyesore, which is rare for office chairs. Its sculpted high back, clean lines and subtle accents make it a task chair worthy of dad’s home office.
If you’re anything like me, your parents are far too comfortable navigating and commenting on Facebook. And if that’s the case for you, there is, perhaps, no better gift for dad than an upgrade for his beloved iPad.
This particular model is perfect for browsing social media, keeping up with friends and former co-workers and, of course, posting pictures of people you’ve forgotten about. As with any Apple device, setup and use is a breeze. Plus, dad is likely already very familiar with it, thanks to his iPhone or previous model iPad.
A staple in my fridge for over a decade, the Secret Aardvark habanero hot sauce is the perfect blend of flavor and heat. Everyone who sampled it at my home has raved about it. It’s definitely spicy, but not painfully so. It’s honestly a perfect hot sauce.
There's no better way to start the morning than with coffee. And while that sentence was as painful to read as it was to write, the quality of brew that comes from the Technivorm Moccamaster is anything but.
Everyone who has owned and experienced the coffee produced by the Moccamaster is astounded by its consistency and ease of use. There's a lot of magic happening behind the guise of its retro design. The Technivorm Moccamaster brews coffee at the ideal temperature range consistently — which is what dad wants from his coffee maker. This means one thing; the best cup of coffee possible every single time.
In case you haven’t heard, professional wrestling is cool again. But you know whose passion for it never wavered? Dad. Surprise him with the gift that any professional wrestling fan has always dreamt of owning; the big one. More specifically, wrestling’s Big Gold Belt, arguably the most historically important belt in history. It’s appeared in so many wrestling promotions over the years, including the NWA, WCW, and the WWE, on the shoulder of several legends in the industry. If your dad is a fan, this is the one to start his collection with.
Ever since I binged The Last of Us on HBO, I've been obsessed with waxed trucker jackets. Perfect as a transitional weather piece or to complete a layered outfit, waxed trucker jackets, like this one from Flint and Tinder, are unbelievably versatile. Every man should have one in their wardrobe. Like the best things in life (see: dad), it gets better with age, and this piece will last him a very, very long time.
For the carnivore, a flight of steak is the ultimate 'I see you' gift. This particular gift from Crowd Cow includes a pair of sirloin steaks, a wagyu petite striploin and a ribeye. For what it's worth, these were some of the best steaks I've ever made at home; great marbling, a generous portion and perfect for grilling this summer.
For my money, the lemon chess pie is the king of pies. Sweet, tangy and with a bright zip, this treat from the Southern Baked Pie Company is a definite crowd pleaser, though, I doubt your dad will want to share. As with any great pie, the crust on this one is buttery and hold its shape well even after being sliced.
This 10” pie is the perfect punctuation to an outdoor gathering (see: Father’s Day brunch). It's best served with fresh whipped cream and iced tea.
There are three main knives to own; a chef’s knife, a paring knife and, the oft-neglected, bread knife. While the former two get all the attention, it’s important to have a well-rounded set — and it’s about time a handsome bread knife made its way into your dad’s hands. Opinel’s Les Forgés 1890 8-inch Bread Knife is designed to stay sharp, feel perfectly balanced, cut through hard crust and look good during it.
Memorial Day is meant to be a time to reflect on the men and women in the military who laid down their lives for our country during times of war.
In the spirit of that holiday, the only war movies appropriate for Memorial Day are those that acknowledge the high cost of war for the people who go into battle and the loved ones they leave behind.
That’s why the Watch With Us team has carefully selected three war movies to watch on Memorial Day.
Two of the films feature world-class directors delivering some of their finest work. And our second selection is often recognized as one of the greatest war movies ever made.
In 2006, Clint Eastwood stepped behind the camera to bring Flags of Our Fathers to the screen. This Oscar-nominated film is based on the real story behind the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima, one of the most famous photographs from World War II. As correctly depicted in the movie, the photograph by Bill Genaust (Kirk B. R. Woller) was taken during the second time the flag was raised, but it captured such an iconic moment that the picture became a sensation back in the United States.
John Bradley (Ryan Phillippe), Mike Strank (Barry Pepper), Ira Hayes (Adam Beach), Rene Gagnon (Jesse Bradford), Harlon Block (Benjamin Walker) and Franklin Sousley (Joseph Michael Cross) are the men who raise the flag in the photo. Not all of them get to come home from the war. Those that survive discover that they now have more value to the military as fundraisers and morale boosters than they do as soldiers. But the psychological toll of their shared experience may be too much to bear.
The way that the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan depicts the Normandy invasion is so stunning and realistic that it went a long way towards winning Steven Spielberg his second Oscar for Best Director. The rest of the movie isn’t quite as harrowing as that, but it’s still a powerful tale about the search for one man, James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon).
Ryan and his three brothers went to war, but James is the only survivor at the beginning of this film. To prevent the Ryan family from suffering the loss of all four sons, Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) leads a small team through Europe’s frontlines to find James and bring him home. The search is dangerous because World War II is far from over, and even the men on this mission question whether it’s worth all of their suffering and misery to save one man’s life.
Over two decades after making Saving Private Ryan, Tom Hanks starred in another World War II film called Greyhound. In this film, Hanks plays Ernie Krause, a recently promoted commander who is tasked with leading a convoy of military and merchant ships from America to England during the height of World War II.
The truly dangerous waters in the Atlantic are the areas where Krause’s fleet has no air support, and they remain vulnerable to German U-boat attacks. While the initial attempts to ward off attacks are successful, the fleet’s dwindling resources place them in a dire situation with fewer options to defend themselves.
Nolan Siegel might be a motorsports phenom, but away from the racetrack he’s just another 20-year-old.
Siegel will make his first appearance in the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25, as part of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team. With a victory, Siegel would become the youngest driver to ever win the historic race. (The youngest Indy 500 driver of all-time was A.J. Foyt IV, who competed on his 19th birthday in 2003.)
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly during race week, Siegel explained how he likes to spend his time when he’s not trying to make history while driving hundreds of miles an hour.
“In the summer now I can go golf and play pickleball,” Siegel said. “I have plenty of friends that live close by. Basically the entire IndyCar field lives within 15 minutes of me, so I’ve got plenty of people to go and do things with. It’s been fun.”
The Palo Alto, California native recently made the move to Indianapolis, which he admitted was a bit of a tough transition.
“A lot of the activities that I could do in northern California are no longer options,” he said with a laugh.
Siegel added, “When I first came and started spending a lot of time here, it was like the start of winter. So that was a bit of a shock for sure.”
Nolan SiegelMiguel J. Rodriguez Carrillo/Getty Images
Once he adjusted — at least as best as he could — to the change in climate, Siegel started taking things into his own hands.
“I got my pilot’s license over the offseason and that’s been a new activity that I’ve really enjoyed,” he said. “That’s been a good, fun thing to do in Indiana.”
Professionally, Siegel finds himself busier than ever. And as his non-racing friends continue to hit certain milestones, he’s been forced to acknowledge that some aspects of his life aren’t quite so normal.
“There are definitely things I’ve missed out on all through school,” Siegel admitted. “Obviously now, all of my friends are in college and I’m missing out on that.”
He continued, “But I do not regret it at all. I wouldn’t trade this for that any day. Yes, there are things that I’m missing out on. But there are plenty of things that I get to do that they don’t get to do.”
One of those things, of course, is the thrill of racing in his first Indianapolis 500, which airs live on Fox Sunday, May 25, at 12:45 p.m. ET.
In the drama series, which quickly rose to become the No. 2 show on the platform, Bacon plays Hub Halloran, a bail bondsman who is killed on a job and resurrected by the devil. Now an agent of Hell itself, he works with his handler Midge (Jolene Purdy, Donnie Darko) and his mother Kitty (Beth Grant, The Mindy Project) to hunt down escaped demons and return them to Satan’s custody.
In a strange move, Amazon Prime Video has already decided not to renew the series, even though it was ranked highly on the platform and earned a solid 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. But even though there’s no second season coming, you should still watch it. Here’s why.
Kevin Bacon Exudes Star Power
As always, Footloose heartthrob Kevin Bacon is magnetic onscreen as Hub. The bounty hunter is flawed yet likable, and as he tracks down evil demons, he also tries to make up for the sins of his past to avoid being sent to Hell when he dies. This means reconciling with his ex, Maryanne (Jennifer Nettles of the band Sugarland), and their son, Cade (Maxwell Jenkins, Reacher).
Bacon shows every facet of his considerable talents in the series, from action hero to singer. Yes, that’s right, Bacon sings a few tunes because Hub was an aspiring musician before he turned to bounty — and then demon — hunting.) The actor’s natural charm and his chemistry with Nettles make the show addicting.
It Comes From a Horror Mastermind
The Bondsman is a production of Blumhouse, Jason Blum’s production company, which brought us horror hits like Get Out, Paranormal Activity and The Black Phone, among others.
The expertise shows in The Bondsman, which combines bone-chilling visual effects with great action and smart storytelling.
The World Building Is Devilishly Good
The Bondsman portrays the state of affairs between Heaven and Hell in a really interesting way, with Midge serving as an employee of the Pot O’Gold corporation, “Satan’s front company on Earth.” Each escaped demon, she explains, presents a risk to the fragile truce between Hell and Heaven.
Each episode showcases a different kind of demon, creating opportunities for fun visuals and creepy stories.
The premise of The Bondsman isn’t completely unique by any means — shows like Supernatural, Lucifer and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have all done the “demon hunter” thing to great success — but placing it in the context of a day job puts an interesting spin on it. If you think you have a hard time maintaining work-life balance, try walking in Hub’s shoes for a day or two. It’s not fun, but it sure is fun to watch.
So, Should You Stream ‘The Bondsman’?
Even though it’s been prematurely slain, The Bondsman is a fun and engaging series packed with action and great performances. And, let’s be honest, it’s just always a pleasure to watch Kevin Bacon do his thing.
(And FYI, although the season finale does feel like it’s setting up a season 2, it’s not an unbearable cliffhanger. So you won’t be feeling totally bereft once the last episode ends.)
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first started dating in 2016, the world has had strong opinions about their union, their exit from the UK and much more. Over the past few months, Meghan has become more visible than ever — there’s the Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, her As Ever lifestyle line and new “Confessions of a Female Founder” podcast. This omnipresence coupled with Harry becoming more outspoken about his years-long rift with the royal family means that those public opinions have reached a crescendo.
Now, it’s not just regular, anonymous people in Facebook comments saying what they think about Meghan, but celebrities too. These high-profile stars — whether they have met Meghan themselves or don’t know much more about her than the general public — have used their platforms to air their views, and sometimes even offer some nuggets of wisdom and professional advice for the Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan has always been a divisive figure, and that’s something most big names can relate to. So, let’s hear what they have to say about one of the most controversial women on the planet.
The entrepreneur and Real Housewives of New York City alum has taken to social media a number of times over the years to say exactly where she thinks Meghan is allegedly going wrong, and how she can fix it.
Most recently, in March 2025, she shared that she had cracked the reason for Meghan’s polarizing public persona. “It’s a combination of jealousy and frustration,” she said via Instagram. “I remember when she walked down the aisle … she was beloved and it was amazing that she was divorced and that she was Black. It was like, it’s this modern royal family and the monarchy’s changing and it was great! And then the wheels came off. She has every right to be unhappy about her life but … I think they underestimated how much they would be on their own. I would do anything to just advise her. It feels like the last girl in the murder movie — like ‘why are you making all the wrong turns?’ Most people don’t have these opportunities. The pot of gold is right there. It’s frustration, we don’t understand. Just like – stop! How did you do it this way?!”
Previously, in July 2023, she said similar things about both Meghan and Harry, posting “How do you do every single thing wrong? I can’t imagine going from hero to zero like that” and adding that their outbursts against the monarchy were “a botched job” and they should “go away for a long time.”
The TV chef exclusively told Us Weekly on March 26 that she is pro-Meghan — and can’t understand why With Love, Meghan has attracted so much criticism.
“I was actually surprised about the backlash to the show,” she said. “[I’ve been] in the lifestyle space for years. We have mixed relatable and unrepeatable elements [too]. Meghan’s show is very well done [and] beautifully filmed. [It has] calming, serene content — and she even used my trick of using a plastic bag as a piping bag for her cake! I’m happy for her. Her crew is doing a great job.” She even had a few words of motivation for the duchess. “Keep on going, and inspire people to make beautiful things,” she said.
On May 3, the actress and comedian posted an Instagram Reel captioned “Meghan Markle can totally fix this if she just does this” where, in a long, hilarious rant, she explained that Meghan’s mistake has been not being more candid about how she and Harry got together.
“She is just avoiding talking about the one thing we all want to hear about,” she said. “Girls are programmed from the time they are literal children to marry a prince, to land a prince. We don’t really want them but, like, give us that intel. What did you do? How did you get them? Just tell us how you got him! Was it kegels? Did you laugh at his corny jokes? Did you let him keep up his Die Hard poster? Like, what did you do?! Just tell us — you’re wearing full butt underwear? Just tell us!”
She went on to poke fun at some of the homemaking tips in Meghan’s show. “I know it’s not the petals on the cookies,” she said. “We know you don’t get men with petals. We don’t want him, we’re just curious! What was the trick — you just listened, and every time he talked you were like, ‘That’s so interesting! Oh my God, that’s so smart! I never would’ve thought about that!’? Do you ask him questions that you already know the answer to? Do you walk with pigeon toes? Are you wearing skirts, aprons? Like, what is it? Just tell us how you got him and we’ll like you.”
As a fellow founder of a huge lifestyle brand, Goop, all eyes were on Paltrow when As Ever launched. But, disappointingly for anyone who loves a drama, the Oscar-winning actress is supportive of Meghan’s work and thinks there’s plenty of room for competition. “I wish Meghan nothing but the best,” she said on “The World’s First Podcast With Erin & Sara Foster” in March 2025. “It’s so great what she’s doing. I’m proud of her. Every woman deserves to go into anything they want to do.”
In fact, Paltrow hasn’t even ruled out collab-ing with the duchess, revealing on May 17 that the two powerful women have been chatting over text.
It’s not the first time both Paltrow and Meghan have been at pains to emphasize that they’re on good terms. “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” the actress told Vanity Fair in March, when the comparisons between Goop and As ever were first drawn. “I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try. Another woman is never your competition.”
The former View cohost and political scion might share her name with Meghan, but that’s where the similarities end. “I was originally a Meghan Markle supporter, I thought she was cool, stylish and refreshing,” she wrote via X in January 2025 after seeing a clip of With Love, Meghan. “Like the rest of the world my opinion changed when she disrespected the royal family. Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocracy what she seems to forget is Americans want real, raw, uncensored. All of this even in the trailer is highly curated, produced and out of touch. I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego.”
Everyone wants to know what Kaling — as one of Meghan’s most high-profile With Love, Meghan guests — really thinks of the duchess. And, of course, she’s a fan — and finds all the attention their friendship gets pretty overwhelming. “I noticed that whenever I do something, anything related to Meghan it becomes big news,” she said on The View in March 2025. “We were making sandwiches, then they’ll push in on my face on TikTok, and they’ll be like, ‘Look at how this emotion you felt,’ and I honestly didn’t even remember it because we shot it like nine months ago.” The actress added: I loved my time with Meghan. I’m also like, ‘Let her promote her show, and I’ll talk about (Kaling’s new show) ‘Running Point.’ It was great, and it’s really fascinating seeing the reaction.”
Katherine Ryan
The Canadian comedian used to be a supporter of Meghan — but, since watching With Love, Meghan, her feelings have changed a little. On her podcast, “Telling Everybody Everything” in March 2025, Ryan questioned her authenticity. “I liked Meghan Markle,” she said. “I was rooting for Meghan Markle… though she is very Hollywood – even for me – and I don’t like that in people. I don’t think she’s a bad person. Her whole act just seems very manicured and very forced.”
Like Cummings, Ryan thinks the former Suits actress should acknowledge the wonder of their relationship more. “I think she likes cozying up to celebrities and she wants the hundred million dollar deal and she likes the fact that she’s married to a prince,” she said. “I would rather someone lean into that and be like, oh my God, I used to be on Suits and now I’m married to a prince. I would rather that than this act of ‘Oh, I’m just so humble.’”
Tina Brown
The former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief (who has written two books about the royal family) has never minced her words when it comes to Harry and Meghan, calling their decision to quit royal duties for life in the U.S a “disaster” at the time. And now she’s gone further. Speaking on “The Ankler” podcast in 2025, the British journalist said “The trouble with Meghan is that she has the worst judgment of anyone in the entire world. She’s flawless about getting it all wrong. All of her ideas are total crap, unfortunately.” She also described Harry as “the lamb to the slaughter” and said the prince “blindly followed her like a child.” Ouch.
The outspoken Osbourne offspring once declared Harry a “f–king t–t” but later clarified her opinions on the couple with a little more nuance. “Maybe it’s because I feel a certain level of disappointment in the sense where I feel like they had an opportunity to become the most liked, loved people in the entire world that could actually bring some positive change,” she said on her family’s podcast in September 2023. “But then, they went down this, like, victim road instead. I get wanting to leave [the royal family], but then just leave. Don’t leave and then just give, “Woe is me” stories about how difficult it was.”
Kelly isn’t the only Osbourne who has issues with Meghan — her mom Sharon isn’t a fan either. Speaking with Piers Morgan on his show, Uncensored, in September 2023, she said the couple were “just so horribly disrespectful and just a whine fest.” She added: “Well, do you know what? You have a great life, you have a beautiful family, and you are so much in love. Move on. Get a life and move on.”
The singer-songwriter is one star who doesn’t understand why the world has such a problem with Meghan. “This profound hatred and annoyance at Meghan Markle specifically — mostly coming from women, I have to say — it’s unfathomable to me,” she shared via TikTok in December 2022. “People are saying, ‘Oh, a woman should never take a man away from his family. That’s all that this is.’ Um, have you seen this family? I just don’t [understand it]. I never have. But people have been annoyed by royals or a particular person in the royal family for centuries.”
This Meghan has her namesake’s back. The Real Housewives of Orange County alum said that it was the Meghan & Harry Netflix series that saw her “turning to their side.” Sharing via her Instagram Stories in 2023, she said “I think Harry seems like his mother and the two of them are in love and want to protect their kids. There’s nothing more relatable in the world than that. I can only imagine how unsafe they feel judging from my baseline of often feeling vulnerable and unsafe.”
The comedian had her say on the controversial couple via Instagram in December 2022 — and, yet again, the Duchess is being criticized for not owning up to her remarkable trajectory enough. “Acting like they can do so much good in the world, which is great and aspirational,” she said. “But when’s the last time a royal did anything that helped the world? That’s all I’m saying. [Meghan] kinda acts like she was never on Deal or No Deal and when I say ‘kinda acts like,’ I mean they don’t acknowledge it at all which is hilarious to me. … You don’t think it’s funny when Meghan acts like she doesn’t know what hair and makeup is?”
The actress and presenter spoke to Meghan on a November 2022 of the Duchess’s “Archetypes” podcast — and said she feels vehemently protective over her. “It’s just an unfathomable amount of s— that you take, Meghan,” said The Good Place star. “I can’t believe it. And I fought back on your behalf for years before I’d ever met you because I was so outraged by the twisting of this, very normal, very kind, very civilized woman. That demonization just shows how afraid they are of you.”
When it’s just too hot outside but you still want to look cute and feel covered, a romper is the answer. But not just any romper. We’re talking one that’s flattering, comfy and earns compliments like it’s a full-time job. Amazon shoppers think they’ve found the one: a boutique-worthy romper that’s breezy, polished and, best of all, seriously good at smoothing the midsection. One reviewer even dubbed it the “best tummy hider” — and we’re sold.
This sleeveless one-piece features a relaxed fit that creates shape without clinging. Shoppers love the soft, drapey fabric and the easy pull-on style that makes getting dressed a no-brainer. Whether you’re headed to brunch, the beach or just running errands in the heat, this romper delivers that effortlessly put-together vibe. Bonus? It’s less than $30 — but only for a limited time.
The romper comes in more than 25 colors, and they’re so gorgeous it’s hard for Us to choose just one. And shoppers agree! “So cute, I bought three different colors,” one reviewer wrote. “It’s super comfy and well-made, so I’ll be ordering a few more to rotate through during the summer months.”
It has a loose, drapey fit that’s “super forgiving,” and feels cool and comfortable even in the humid summer heat. The spaghetti straps of the romper are adjustable so you can get the perfect fit up top. And yes, it has pockets (two on the sides) that reviewers say are deep enough to actually hold your essentials.
This is the versatile, throw-on-and-go piece to have in your summer wardrobe. When the weather gets chillier, wear a thermal or long-sleeve underneath. But in the meantime, pair it with a tee and dress it up or down with sneakers or sandals. “I need another one!” one shopper said. “I ordered it as a cover-up for vacation, but ended up wearing it multiple times with tee shirts or tanks underneath. It can be dressed up or down, and is so comfy!”
A functional romper that feels like loungewear? Sign Us up! It’s only a matter of time before you order more colors.
Sometimes we all need a little break from reality. That’s one of the most appealing aspects of sci-fi, as it offers a temporary glance at worlds that only resemble our own.
Some of the most popular sci-fi movies ever made also revolve around war, including the obvious example, Star Wars. But not all those flicks function as escapist entertainment and war stories.
The Watch With Us team has selected three great sci-fi movies to watch on Memorial Day Weekend that successfully blend war into the stories without getting oppressively grim.
Our first pick is a sci-fi classic from the late ’90s, followed by a remake of an iconic science fiction novel and a more recent film that debuted as a Prime Video original.
Robert A. Heinlein‘s Starship Troopers novel is neither a comedy nor a satire, but director Paul Verhoeven and screenwriter Edward Neumeier added a satirical edge to the film that has made it a cult classic. In the future, humanity’s reach extends far beyond the Earth as the colonization of the universe begins. The humans are initially dismissive of the giant alien arachnids that they encounter until the bugs launch a devastating long-distance assault on Earth.
Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), Dizzy Flores (Dina Meyer), Carmen Ibanez (Denise Richards) and Carl Jenkins (Neil Patrick Harris) didn’t join the military because they wanted to go to war. Yet all of them are swept up in a galactic conflict that is rapidly becoming an inevitable triumph for the bugs. Unless something changes quickly, humanity is about to become an endangered species.
Tom Cruise‘s second collaboration with director Steven Spielberg was a modern adaptation of H.G. Wells‘ classic novel, The War of the Worlds. And unlike Cruise’s previous Spielberg film, Minority Report, he’s no action hero here. Instead, Ray Ferrier (Cruise) is just a divorced dock worker taking care of his kids, Rachel (Dakota Fanning) and Robbie (Justin Chatwin), when aliens suddenly arrive on Earth and launch a devastating attack.
Earth’s military forces can’t hold off the aliens’ superior technology, and Ray is forced to flee with his children and keep away from the invaders. Since the aliens appear to be harvesting humans for blood, there’s seemingly nowhere safe to run. The only thing Ray can do is keep his children alive as long as possible.
Guardians of the Galaxy leading man Chris Pratt stars in The Tomorrow War as James Daniel Forester Jr., a former Green Beret who thought his military service was behind him. Unfortunately for Dan, humanity’s darkest days are ahead, as evidenced by the arrival of soldiers from the future. These visitors from another time come with a dire warning that humanity will perish in a war against alien invaders if modern soldiers and civilians don’t enlist to go to the future and fight the war alongside their descendants.
When Dan gets to the future, he discovers that the situation is even more desperate than he was led to believe. He also teams up with his now-adult daughter, Colonel Muri Forester (Yvonne Strahovski), and eventually reunites with his estranged father, James Daniel Forester, Sr. (J. K. Simmons), to find a way to end the alien reign of terror.
Shopping for clothes has never been easy for me, namely because I’m pretty short — 5’3″ to be exact. But while you might think I’d struggle with pants the most, I’ve had one too many issues with summer dresses. So many silhouettes and patterns make me disappear, to the point where the dress is wearing me rather than the other way around.
I’ve spent years trying to find the best designs that accentuate my petite frame and even help me look a little taller, so I know exactly what will make other petite women feel like a million bucks. If you’re ready to exude confidence and look amazing, keep reading for the best summer dresses for petite frames.
15 Summer Dresses That Don’t Swallow Petite Frames
1. Our Favorite: Babydoll dresses are a solid choice for petite frames. They hit you in all the right places, accentuating your waist while also making your legs appear longer.
2. Flowy & Flattering: Some looser fitting dresses can make petite gals look like a sack of potatoes. This relaxed shift dress isn’t restrictive or bulky, so you can confidently wear it out.
3. Midi for Minis: Midi dresses oftentimes end up looking like maxi dresses for those under 5’4″. Luckily, this ruffled pick lands right below the knee — no hemming required!
4. Ideal Neckline: Once you slip into this floral stunner you’ll want to wear it all season long. The halterneck creates a continuous line, elongating your stature to help you look taller.
5. Cute and Casual: What’s better than shorts and a T-shirt? A wear anywhere T-shirt dress. The fun waist bow ensures the garment shows off your shape.
6. Petite Party: One thing we especially love about Lands’ End? The brand offers petite sizing in their dresses, including this summery cotton maxi, which is currently on sale at Nordstrom!
7. Floral Fantasy: Loud patterns can often drown out petite frames. However, when they’re paired with silhouettes that lengthen your figure — like this Petal & Pup design — you end up looking almost as tall as a supermodel.
8. Drop Waist for the Win: Drop waist dresses can make petite frames look longer. This strapless pick was made for elevated events, like weddings or dressy summer brunches.
9. She Was a Skater Girl…Not actually, but she was wearing a skater dress! This silhouette — and particularly this athletic pick — always looks amazing on petite frames.
10. Fits Like a Glove: The Skims Soft Lounge Long Slip Dress has gone viral for numerous reasons — including for how it helps petite women appear longer and leaner.
11. Stretchy Denim: This top-rated Quince denim dress comfortably stretches to hug your curves, and ultimately makes you look about five inches taller.
12. Get It While You Can: The angular hem on this casual jersey dress from Quince shows off a little more leg, which — you guessed it — stretches out your frame. The brand is discontinuing it soon, so be sure to add a few colors to your cart.
13. Color Block Cutie: While loud patterns aren’t always the best choice, a little colorblock number won’t overpower petite women. We love this shift dress that was made for the summer months.
14. Dress It Up or Down: Some of the best pieces you can add to your closet end up being the most versatile ones. Take this floral wrap dress — pair it with heels and you have a fancy fit, or wear it with sneakers to make your overall look more casual.
15. Vacation Ready: A beach dress that flatters your figure? We’ve got you covered with this boho-inspired design.
Until fairly recently, the flow of content between Hulu and Disney+ only went in one direction. The latter got to play with all of Disney’s biggest brands while Hulu’s superior lineup of films and TV shows was used to shore up Disney+’s shortcomings.
Now, Disney seems much more willing to give Hulu subscribers a taste of what they’re missing on Disney+ with a handful of Star Wars movies as well as a few Marvel TV shows.
This month, Daredevil and The Punisher are streaming on Hulu, which is ironic since both were Netflix original series produced by Marvel Television nearly a decade ago. Both of those series are worth catching for superhero fans who want more mature storylines, but the one Hulu show you have to watch in May 2025 is The Defenders.
The Defenders was the culmination of Marvel Television’s attempt to bring four different TV superheroes into a single miniseries. Think of it as The Avengers on a much smaller scale. It’s not the best show that Marvel has ever produced, but there are definitely things it does very well.
The Team-Up Feels Like a Genuine Event
If you’re expecting The Defenders to match the scale of Marvel’s Avengers movies, then you’re bound to be disappointed. It’s got a lot lower budget than the big Marvel movies. What it does have is TV-MA action that borders on R-rated, and it’s really enjoyable to see Matt Murdock/Daredevil banter with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Jessica always seems to know the most cutting line to say while she’s around Matt.
Similarly, the live-action pairing of Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) felt very natural. In the comics, Cage and Rand had a long partnership, but they’re initially strangers to each other in this story. Jones’ performance as Danny was widely panned in the first season of Iron Fist. But in this series, Jones seemed more relaxed and in command of his character. There were some shaky moments with Iron Fist’s decisions late in the season, but it was still an improvement.
After establishing those two separate pairings, the show finally brings the four of them together for the final stretch of the season. They may not be Earth’s mightiest heroes, but they’re an entertaining group.
‘The Defenders’ Blends the Casts of Four Different TV Series
This wasn’t simply a show for the four main heroes. Almost all of the important supporting cast members from their respective shows also had roles in this crossover. Rosario Dawson‘s Claire Temple was the natural choice to appear, since she had previous interactions with all four of the main characters.
Iron Fist‘s Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and Luke Cage‘s Misty Knight (Simone Missick) had a longtime partnership in the comics that was given a nod on this show. Marvel did reunite them in Luke Cage season 3, but this miniseries had some of their best interactions. Jessica Jones‘ Rachael Taylor and Eka Darville and Daredevil‘s Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll weren’t as prominently featured, but they also took part in this miniseries. That made The Defenders feel like a true continuation of all four shows.
Sigourney Weaver Embraces Her Villain Era
In the ’80s and ’90s, Sigourney Weaver‘s Ellen Ripley was practically a superhero in the Alien movies. But in The Defenders, Weaver seemed to relish the chance to play Alexandra, one of the main villains. On the face of it, having a 68-year-old Caucasian actress play the leader of The Hand — a Japanese ninja clan and a death cult — didn’t make a lot of sense. Weaver was probably cast in the role for her star power, and she chews the scenery like a great villain should. The show presents Alexandra and her fellow five fingers of The Hand as functionally immortal, but also facing their own potential deaths if they don’t move forward with their plans for New York City.
That brings us to Élodie Yung‘s Elektra, the former lover of Matt Murdock and a key figure in Daredevil’s backstory. Alexandra resurrected Elektra to be her weapon in this show, but Elektra ultimately had other ideas and went down a darker path. Yung has since headlined four seasons of The Cleaning Lady on Fox, and she may not be reprising her role as Elektra anytime soon. Thankfully, she’s very good in the short time she played the character, and she was also a believable physical foil for the Defenders.
It Inadvertently Sets Up ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2
This wasn’t planned back in 2017, but The Defenders is now in the odd position of foreshadowing the return of Jessica Jones to the MCU. It was recently announced that Ritter will reprise her role in Daredevil: Born Again for the first time since Jessica Jones ended in 2019. Ritter’s return had been rumored for years, but not confirmed until earlier this month. That almost certainly means Jessica will reunite with Matt at some point during the season and resume their somewhat contentious relationship.
Given the way that Born Again season 1 ended with Matt recruiting allies to help him take down NYC Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), getting the Defenders back together was the natural way to go. For now, there’s no word about whether Colter or Jones will also reprise their roles as Luke Cage and Iron Fist when Daredevil: Born Again premieres in 2026. But fans will likely welcome them back if they are.
From fantasies to crime thrillers and medical procedurals, HBO and Max has every sub-genre of drama you could imagine. If you’re not sure where to begin when diving into their massive library of content, Watch With Us has you covered with the 7 best drama shows you must watch on HBO and Max this May.
See how talented actors like Idris Elba got their start, or watch veterans like Noah Wyle return to the small screen. All of these drama series are exciting, engaging and gripping shows that will keep you coming back for more.
The Pitt is HBO's first medical procedural that's already one of the breakout TV hits of 2025. ER alum Noah Wyle returns to the onscreen hospital in this pulse-pounding drama, which mimics 24 with its storytelling style. Each episode coincides with one hour out of a 15-hour shift in the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Hospital, meaning that literally every second counts.
The Pitt also stands out for its medical accuracy, which real ER doctors have praised, and for the powerful performances from Wyle (who plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a wonderfully flawed and vulnerable character) and the rest of the cast. This series, which was renewed for a second season almost immediately after it began airing, is perfect for fans of Grey's Anatomy who wish for a little less soap and a little more grit.
The Last of Us is a sci-fi show based on a video game, but don't let that description mislead you. It's a far cry from Super Mario or Call of Duty. Instead, it's an intensely emotional, gripping drama about a broken man named Joel (Pedro Pascal) and an unusual girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) who venture across the country in hopes of helping to cure the terrifying mushroom parasite that has turned millions of people into vicious "infected." While Joel and Ellie both have walls up, they form a father-daughter bond on their journey that comes at a terrifying cost.
Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series is out now, and it's just as shocking, innovative and entertaining as season 1. With mind-blowing special effects and gut-wrenching performances, The Last of Us redefines what we expect from genre storytelling.
When you watch the first episode of The Sopranos, it's easy to see how the mafia drama blew people's minds and changed television forever. The story of mob boss Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) made people understand that television can be an art form on the same level of feature films with its emotional complexity, gripping storylines and nuanced performances.
As Tony begins attending therapy with Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco) to try and stop his panic attacks and anxiety, his self-analysis leads the story into themes of identity, legacy, and morality. Created by David Chase, the series is not only a deep exploration of a mobster's psyche but also a dissection of American family dynamics and the existential struggles faced by its characters.
The series boasts a talented ensemble cast that brings the world of New Jersey crime to life. Edie Falco is a force to be reckoned with as Carmela Soprano, Tony's strong-willed and complicated wife; Michael Imperioli bristles with chaotic energy as Christopher Moltisanti, Tony's impulsive protégé; and Dominic Chianese is intimidating as Corrado "Junior" Soprano, Tony's uncle and a rival within the family business. The Sopranos has left an indelible impact on the landscape of modern television, setting a benchmark for character-driven narratives in the crime genre.
When Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the CEO of a major media conglomerate, suffers a major health scare, his four children and several of his employees begin scrambling for the title of CEO. Unfortunately for them, the Roy siblings, as Logan eventually says, are "not serious people," having all been alternately spoiled, coddled and abused by their wealthy family. Connor (Alan Ruck) Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) will constantly shock you with their ability to backstab and lie, even to themselves.
Yet despite the high-stakes drama, the writing on Succession is some of the most darkly funny material you'll ever hear. Siobhan's husband Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and the ever-scheming Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) are as slimy as they are duplicitous. It's endlessly entertaining to watch these maladapted children squabble over billions, with little thought to the real-world consequences of their behavior.
Succession took home multiple Emmys during its run and with good reason. The twists are thrilling, the performances are great and the insights into the lives of the privileged class are perceptive and shocking.
Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) oversaw this sequel/redo of the 1986 comic book series of the same name by Alan Moore. But if you never read that series, don't worry — the show does a good job filling in the gaps, and a quick glance at the Wikipedia page for the original Watchmen will answer any questions you may have.
Regina King stars as Angela Abar, a police officer in a world where law enforcement takes on costumed identities to avoid being targeted by terrorist groups. Angela fights crime in Tulsa, Oklahoma, under the name "Sister Night," but when her boss Judd Crawford (Don Johnson) is murdered, she begins to uncover a conspiracy around crimefighting that reaches far back into history — starting with the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.
Watchmen won eleven Emmys for its one and only season (so far). Between the compelling performances, stellar writing and shocking twists, it deserved every one of them.
Game of Thrones bears the unfortunate legacy of having an ending that almost nobody liked. And even a few years after the 2019 finale, it's still easy to see that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss kind of bungled it. But in the early seasons, it was one of the most exciting, well-written and moving shows on television, and the awe-inspiring moments are worth the so-so ending. Based on George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire novels, Game of Thrones tells the story of Westeros, a magical land where seasons can last decades and dragons once roamed the earth.
Leading the cast are Sean Bean as the honorable Eddard "Ned" Stark, Peter Dinklage as the cunning and sharp-witted Tyrion Lannister, and Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, whose journey from exile to power is central to the series. Other notable cast members include Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Lena Headey as the ambitious Cersei Lannister, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, and Maisie Williams as Arya Stark. The intricate plot spotlights more characters and storylines than we can name, but they all have themes of loyalty, betrayal, revenge and family.
David Simon's critically acclaimed Baltimore crime drama series dives deep into the different facets of the city's ecosystem with a complex narrative that tackles the intricate relationship between institutions and individuals. The show was lauded for its focus on the operational challenges faced by working-class citizens as well as police officers and drug dealers.
The Wire launched the careers of many talented actors, most notably Dominic West as Detective Jimmy McNulty and Idris Elba as Stringer Bell. The stories of these complex characters infuse social commentary into gripping storytelling with authenticity and depth, provoking nuanced conversations about the issues that plague urban society. It's a must-watch for drama fans, especially those who appreciate gritty, grounded series.
Netflix‘s Nonnas, starring Vince Vaughn, is currently one of the most popular movies on the streamer right now.
The sweet film is a tribute to the way human beings express love through food and how fine cooking can be an art form.
If you love detailed tributes to deliciousness and close-ups on culinary confections, Watch With Us has recommendations for you.
These five movies and shows, from Ratatouille to The Bear, are incredible examples of the art of “food on film,” in addition to being entertaining stories with wonderful casts.
Jon Favreau and John Leguizamo star in this charming road trip movie about Carl Casper (Favreau), a chef who has grown frustrated and creatively stifled. He's also grown disconnected from his son Percy (Emjay Anthony) and his ex-wife, Inez (Sofia Vergara). When he's let go from his restaurant job, he starts a food truck with his friend Martin (Leguizamo) and Percy. Together, they drive across the country, incorporating local ingredients into their delicious sandwiches. Thanks to Percy's tech savviness, they become a social media phenomenon, and father and son grow closer than ever.
Chef is a feel-good comedy with an earnest love of food that will bring a smile to your face. The sweet story combined with the delicious dishes will leave you hungry for more.
Across oceans, years and cultures, food connects us. In From Scratch, it's what helps the love between artist Amy (Zoe Saldaña) and chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) survive family drama, illness and more of life's ups and downs. The first episode of this limited series, which is based on Tembi Locke's memoir of the same name, features a particularly sensuous montage at Lino's restaurant when he serves food to Amy and her friends.
Throughout the couple's many hardships, food is a constant source of both comfort and passion. The cinematography in this stunningly beautiful series captures the magic of Italian cuisine, Texan barbecue and everything in between. It's a tearjerker, but the whole series is also mouth-wateringly satisfying.
Liz (Julia Roberts) takes a culinary trip around the world in this romantic dramedy, an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir of the same name. Whether you dream of pasta, pizza, curry or naan, you can salivate over any of them in this film, which follows Liz from Italy to India to Bali on a journey of self-discovery following a difficult divorce.
The film's cinematography captures the essence of her delicious meals in such detail that audiences can almost taste them themselves, which plays a significant role in communicating Liz's rediscovered love for life's simple pleasures. She also delivers a moving monologue about refusing to let an obsession with calories keep her from enjoying incredible food. Directed by Ryan Murphy, Eat, Pray, Love skillfully combines lush visual storytelling with an exploration of themes such as self-discovery, spirituality, and the pursuit of happiness.
This Emmy-winning FX and Hulu series is a runaway hit for its depiction of the chaotic energy of a real gourmet kitchen. Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) is a Michelin Star-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago and transforms his brother's beloved but decrepit sandwich shop into a fine dining establishment. Real-life chef Courtney Storer creates the incredible dishes on this show, which all look so delicious you can almost smell them through your screen. In addition to its stellar cast, which features Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bacharach and Abby Elliot (among others), The Bear also shines a spotlight on real chefs like Matty Matheson, Christina Tosi, Christopher Zucchero and more.
The culinary artistry showcased in The Bear is a visual feast, elevating the series beyond traditional kitchen drama. It's a tribute to the craft of cooking, in all its beauty and its ugliness. Should you watch it? "Yes, Chef!"
If you've ever wished you were a better chef but felt too intimidated to step into the kitchen, think back to Ratatouille's theme: "Anyone can cook." Remy (Patton Oswalt), a rat, has a passion for flavor that emanates from the screen in this heartwarming animated movie. When he befriends Linguini (Lou Romano), a food-lover who lacks much in the way of cooking skill, the duo team up to form an unstoppable (albeit unconventional) culinary team.
Ratatouille captures the essence and artistry, beautifully depicting food and the passion of the people who make it. From the sizzle of fresh vegetables to the aromatic wafts of prepared dishes, every scene is a testament to the film’s love for the culinary arts. Characters are seen treating ingredients with reverence, showcasing not just the technical skills required to prepare exquisite meals but also the creativity and love that go into creating extraordinary cuisine. No matter where you come from, Ratatouille seems to say, the culinary arts belong to you, too.
Comedy movies and war films aren’t the easiest genres to combine in a single project.
There are a handful of war comedies, but not as many as you may think. Satirical war films are difficult to make, and sometimes, given the subject matter, they’re also difficult to laugh at.
The Watch With Us team’s picks for the three must-watch comedy movies to stream on Memorial Day weekend include two rare films that successfully combined armed conflict and hilarious situations.
However, the final selection only has a slight connection to war. But if you love broad comedy, you’ll be laughing too much to care about that.
It’s hard to go wrong with two out of the four original Ghostbusters appearing alongside fellow comedy legends John Candy and John Larroquette. Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman helmed Stripes and cast Bill Murray as John Winger, a down-on-his-luck slacker who impulsively joins the army. He also talks his best friend, Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis), into enlisting with him.
However, Winger has a severe personality clash with his drill sergeant, Sergeant Hulka (Warren Oates), and figures out too late that army life isn’t a good fit for him. He and Ziskey also find time to romance Louise Cooper (Sean Young) and Stella Hansen (P. J. Soles), a pair of military police women. Winger’s antics may be hilarious for audiences, but they get him and Ziskey in a lot of trouble. And they can only stay in training for so long before being sent on an actual military assignment.
War Machine is a satire that’s loosely based on events that actually happened during the war in Afghanistan during the term of President Barack Obama (Reggie Brown). Brad Pitt stars as General Glen McMahon, a man who has been given broad leeway to come up with a plan to end the war, as long as it doesn’t include a request for more troops.
Journalist Sean Cullen (Scoot McNairy) gets a first-hand look at McMahon’s contempt for civilian authority and his conclusion that there is no way to win without a troop surge. McMahon’s efforts to change the armed forces’ strategy are thwarted more than once, and it’s darkly comical that he can’t seem to fully comprehend that the people of Afghanistan have long since tired of having the U.S. troops around.
Top Secret! isn’t really a war movie, but it is a very funny spy comedy that parodies everything from Elvis Presley movies to World War II flicks. The Naked Gun directors Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker gave Val Kilmer his first leading role as Nick Rivers, a rock star who doubles as a spy for the U.S. government.
Nick’s cover as a musician gets him undercover inside East Germany as a performer. But his actual mission is to foil a reunification plot by General Streck (Jeremy Kemp) that will bring West Germany under the control of the communist-led East German government. Things get very silly as Nick attempts to carry out his orders, and this is a true comedy classic.

There’s only one episode remaining in The Last of Us season 2, but the finale is far from the end of the story.
However, The Last of Us season 2, episode 6 may be the final time that Pedro Pascal appears as Joel. Following Joel’s death at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) earlier this season, Pascal has been kept off-screen. Fortunately, episode 6’s extended flashbacks gave the audience some closure for Joel’s time on the show.
Ellie (Bella Ramsey), on the other hand, won’t be satisfied until she’s tracked down Abby and made her pay for Joel’s demise. She can’t be at peace until that happens.
To get everyone ready for the last episode of the season, Watch With Us has put together this guide to everything you need to know about The Last of Us season 2 finale.
Yes. Max may not offer free trials of its own, but it does have a deal in place with DoorDash that can be very enticing. DoorDash offers free access to Max with ads for anyone who signs up for its annual DashPass membership. But if you want Max’s ad-free tier, DoorDash charges an additional fee.
What Happened in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2, Episode 6?
Almost the entire episode took place in the past. The first flashback introduced Better Call Saul‘s Tony Dalton as Javier Miller, the father of Joel and Tommy. Joel put himself between his father’s abusive rage and his younger brother, and he was rewarded for his bravery with a heart-to-heart conversation. Javier also expressed his hope that Joel will do better with his own children than he did with his.
To a certain extent, Joel did. The rest of the episode touches on Joel’s life with Ellie in Jackson, including the time he gave her a hand-crafted guitar for her birthday. However, the emotional distance between Joel and Ellie grew larger over the years, especially when she declared her intent to move out of his house. On Ellie’s 19th birthday, she and Joel went out on patrol and encountered Eugene (Joe Pantoliano) after he had been infected. Eugene begged Joel to let him see his wife, Gail (Catherine O’Hara), one last time. Ellie made Joel agree to that, but she was angered when Joel executed Eugene anyway. That’s why she exposed his lies to Gail.
In the final flashback, Ellie confronted Joel after the New Year’s Eve party and demanded the truth about what happened with the Fireflies. Joel admitted that he executed all of them rather than let Ellie be euthanized in the name of finding a cure. Ellie was angered because she felt that was worth dying for, but she told Joel that she wanted to try to forgive him. In turn, Joel told Ellie that he hopes she does better with her children.
What’s Going to Happen in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2, Episode 7?
Expect to see a major turning point for Ellie’s story, since this episode will be the last for at least a year or two. It will be interesting to see if The Last of Us leans into a cliffhanger ending or if the conclusion to season 2 will be left more open-ended.
Is There a Trailer for ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2, Episode 7?
Yes, and it looks like Ellie and her girlfriend, Dina, will be reunited at least one more time this season. Dina’s ex, Jesse, appears and makes a very good point about the war for Seattle that they’ve inadvertently stepped into. It’s not their fight, but they may not get a choice in the matter if he tries to leave with Dina.
As for Ellie, she’s already made her decision. She’s going to find Abby or die trying.
How Many Episodes Are There in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?
There are seven episodes in The Last of Us season 2.
Who’s Joined the Cast of ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2?
In addition to Dever as Abby, Merced as Dina and Wright as Isaac Dixon, Young Mazino also joined the cast as Dina’s ex, Jesse.
Catherine O’Hara plays Gail, who was Joel’s therapist in Jackson before he passed away. While Gail’s husband, Eugene, was only briefly seen in the game, Joe Pantoliano portrayed that character on the show. Gabriel Luna is reprising his season 1 role as Joel’s younger brother, Tommy.
