Carolina Panthers’ former linebacker Dean Wells has died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 54.
Wells, who played in the NFL for nearly a decade, died on Wednesday, April 3, reported the Carolina Panthers.
As well as the Panthers, the professional athlete also played for the Seattle Seahawks, which he was drafted into in 1993. Prior to his NFL career, he played for the University of Kentucky during his college football career. Wells retired from professional football in 2001.
Wells was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in early 2023 and began chemotherapy. According to the Mayo Clinic, ALL is a type of cancer in the blood and bone marrow and is “a disease that progresses rapidly and creates immature blood cells, rather than mature ones.”
Following months of chemo treatment, Wells’ cancer initially went into remission before he later received the news in the fall that it had returned.
Wells spoke about his cancer fight with sports outlet KSR in April 2024.
“Show me who to tackle and I can do that,” Wells told the outlet. “This is in the doctors’ hands and it’s in God’s hands.”
In the same interview, Wells shared details of the support he had been receiving from those around him and how he was trying to stay positive amid the difficult diagnosis.

“So many teammates have reached out. ‘You’re one of the toughest guys I’ve ever met. I know you’ll beat this,’” he said. “There’s mental toughness that comes into it. You have to have a positive attitude that you can beat it. I’ve done everything that I can with that. It’s like the chemo either works or it doesn’t. You just don’t have a lot of control over it. You wish you had more control.”
Wells added that he learned his positive outlook from his mother.
“Generally speaking, my mother was a very positive person and I think she kind of rubbed off on me in that regard,” he added. “Not that I’m not scared and everything else you would expect with the possibility of dying, but you still gotta find a way to enjoy every day and stay positive.”
According the Carolina Panthers, Wells spent much of the last year of his life raising awareness about how to help in the fight against cancer, including encouraging people to donate blood, donate to cancer research initiatives and to join the bone marrow registry.
The newest Sheriff Country crossover on Fire Country featured some nods to Max Thieriot‘s days on Bates Motel, but did you catch every Easter egg?
During the Friday, April 4, episode, Thieriot’s character Bode found himself helping Sharon’s (Diane Farr) stepfather, Wes (W. Earl Brown), at his off-the-grid marijuana property. The story line felt very reminiscent of Dylan’s days guarding marijuana plants on Bates Motel, which was intentional on Thieriot’s part.
“I’m going to go one level deeper here. Mickey’s dad [on Sheriff Country] is who we bought the motel from [on Bates Motel]. W. Earl Brown is the one who owned the motel that Norma and Norman purchased and that set off the whole thing in the beginning. It’s crazy,” Thieriot, 36, exclusively told Us Weekly. “The big thing for us is the show is centered in northern California and it is a version of a humble town and marijuana is really the industry — and has been for a long time. So we’re back to it. We’re back to some of those Bates Motel ways again.”
“He directed episode 18 [of season 3], which was really exciting for the two of us. Freddie and I are really like brothers in real life. Since we finished Bates Motel, I have been in Los Angeles and he was in Vancouver the whole time doing The Good Doctor. But we miss getting to work together,” Thieriot noted. “Although this was different, it was just fun to get to come together and work on something. Freddie directed when I was on Bates Motel as well but I hadn’t worked with him as a director since then.”
He continued: “Freddie is maybe the smartest person that I know. He is really talented and can do anything and everything. He approaches everything from a different way than most other people do — just because of how cerebral he is. But maybe one day he’ll appear on screen. I know the two of us really want to work together on camera again.”
CBS
Before becoming the star and executive producer on Fire Country, Thieriot was a fan favorite on Bates Motel. The A&E series, which ran from 2013 to 2017, worked as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock‘s 1960 film Psycho, which introduced Norman Bates (Highmore) as a teenager making a move with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), but his deteriorating mental health causes complications.
Bates Motel expanded on the world of Psycho by introducing new characters such as Norman’s half-brother, Dylan, his best friend Emma (Olivia Cooke) and a love interest for Norma a.k.a Sheriff Alex Romero (Néstor Carbonell). Thieriot also appeared on SEAL Team before introducing Us to the world of Fire Country.
“I’ve been really, really fortunate over the years to not only have worked with really incredible actors but also some really just straight up wonderful people,” Thieriot gushed. “I would love to be able to work with them again. There’s at least one or two people on the last two shows that I’ve done that I would love to get over here somehow in some capacity.”
For now, Thieriot is focused on Fire Country‘s success as its first spinoff,Sheriff Country, prepares for its fall premiere. Thieriot isn’t stopping there though, admitting to Us that he always has new ideas on his mind.
“I know there’s a limit to the amount of Country [shows] we can have. I think there’s also a certain point where it’s, like, quality over quantity,” he explained. “So the most important thing is that we’re always nurturing Fire Country — and now Sheriff Country — and making sure that they are getting all the attention that they should be getting so that the audience gets what they deserve. That’s to me the most important thing. But outside of the Fire Country universe, my wheels are always turning — sometimes too to a fault.”
In the segment, King where she attempted to retell one of Lane’s standup jokes, who was on the show to promote his cookbook, Your Pasta Sucks.
“Can we talk about the standup? Can I just say one joke? I hope I don’t get in trouble,” King said to Lane, 38. “You do a riff about white women who approached you, and they said something about cooking, and you said, ‘What in the f——- are you talking about?'”
She added: “I thought that was hilarious. What does that mean?”
Visibly seeming to find the question hilarious, Lane replied, “I love you, Gayle King.”
He continued: “It means exactly what you think it means. White women, they’re fine during the day, but they have one sip of a rosé and they’re like, ‘Tonight’s about me!’ They won’t stop, I’m telling you. Horrible.”
Prior to King quoting the gay slur, Lane had been openly discussing his sexuality with the TV host in the lighthearted segment.
“You embrace being gay and your homosexuality,” King said to Lane. “And I’m wondering — where did this come from? The funniness that you were able to combine with cooking and and your stand-up, too?”
Matteo Lane(Photo by Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images)
Revealing it felt “natural” for him to combine comedy and cooking, Lane shared a little about how his upbringing contributed to this.
He explained that he hailed from “a large family where you have to have something funny to say or be opinionated, so you have to speak up.”
CBS removed the slur from later feeds of CBS Mornings as well as from YouTube and the show’s social media channels.
Lane appeared to have taken the remark in good humor, reposting the official, censored version via his Instagram.
While some viewers weren’t impressed with King’s comment, including one who described it via X as a “messy move,” some prominent LGBTQ+ celebs reacted positively online.
Bob the Drag Queen shared the clip via X and called King “honestly iconic,” while comedian Jay Jurden weighed in by posting: “Can’t spell Gayle without “Gay.”THE HIGH COUNCIL APPROVES.”
King has hosted CBS Mornings and its predecessor CBS This Morning since January 2012.

Retainers, night guards . . . it’s all taboo. Those of Us who suffered through years of braces know how important it is to follow our orthodontist’s orders, but dealing with a retainer can be off-putting, to say the least. It always ends up discolored, funky-smelling and covered in bacteria, no matter how hard we scrub or how often we soak it in denture cleaner.
Most dentist offices have retainer cleaners nowadays, but that doesn’t mean you should wait until your bi-yearly visit to give your retainer or night guard a deep clean. This ‘magic’ clinical-grade device uses dual-action Steribrite technology to destroy 99.9% of bacteria on dental devices while clearing cloudiness and removing odor. High-frequency ultrasonic waves fuel the deep cleaning process while UV-C light kills bacteria, viruses and pathogens, making this device a must-have for anyone serious about their health.
The ultrasonic waves work to dislodge dirt and grime, all without damaging your dental appliance. In other words, it gently lifts those cloudy spots you thought were permanent. UV-C light is the ultimate disinfectant, sterilizing surfaces and killing the harmful microscopic bugs that freeload on your retainer. But don’t worry — UV-C doesn’t harm your appliance, either!
In three to five minutes, your retainer, night guard, dentures, toothbrush heads or aligner will be good as new — no scrubbing involved. There are two modes, one for normal cleaning and one for deep cleaning, taking three and five minutes, respectively; no matter which mode you choose, your appliance is guaranteed to come out sparkling clean. This device is truly one of a kind!
To use, simply fill the Sonic Pro with cold water, add a Sonic Dental Cleaning Tablet and put your retainer in the water. Then, choose between the three and five-minute cleaning cycle options and let the magic happen! When the device is finished, you’ll want to rinse your retainer under cold water to reveal your clean, stain-free retainer (or night guard . . . or dentures).
The only difference between the Sonic Pro and Sonic Pro Bundle is the number of cleaning tablets. If you want to clean your appliance(s) frequently, we recommend the bundle, which includes 30 tablets. For all other needs, the six-tablet Sonic Pro will do.
Reviewers and dentists alike can’t get enough of this device, noting how small, portable, easy-to-use and effective it is. “Tried one out before purchasing them for my patients! This thing actually works,” one dentist wrote. “It’s kind of gross to think of how we cleaned before this. Also it’s aesthetically pleasing on a counter top.”
Narcos: Mexico star Manuel Masalva has been placed in a coma after contracting a bacterial infection.
“My brother is fighting for his life far away from home,” Masalva’s friend Mario Morán said in Spanish in a TikTok video uploaded on Thursday, April 3, adding that the actor, 43, is “one of my best friends.”
Morán, 32, explained that Masalva “fell victim to a very aggressive virus” while on vacation.
“This led him to an induced coma. As of today, his situation remains delicate,” he added.
Morán also shared a GoFundMe link raising money for Masalva’s unexpected hospital costs.
“The medical costs are enormous and in a country where everything is more difficult, any help, no matter how small, can make the difference in this very difficult moment,” Morán said in the clip. “If you can contribute, we thank you with our entire hearts.”
According to the GoFundMe page, which was created on Tuesday, April 1, Masalva contracted an “unknown bacteria” while abroad and was in “serious condition.”

An update on Masalva’s condition was shared via the page on Thursday.
“Manu remains in critical condition; the bacteria has already been detected,” the post which was written in Spanish read. “He’s on antibiotics, and we’re waiting for him to begin to improve.”
The page also shared that Masalva’s family was grateful for the donations received so far. At the time of writing, the GoFundMe total has reached more than 1 million Mexican Pesos (which is around $49,000 USD) from more than 800 donations. The page’s goal was to achieve $1 million.
“Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far; your generosity and support are crucial during this difficult time for Manuel and his loved ones,” the message read. “We deeply appreciate the generosity of acquaintances, friends, and family.”
The post also expressed its gratitude to those who have spread the word about Masalva.
“Thank you for continuing to share this campaign on your social media so we can reach more people who can help,” the post continued. “Together, we can make a huge difference for Manuel and provide him with the strength and support he needs to recover.”
Masalva is best known for playing Ramón Arellano Félix on Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico. The series was a spinoff of the original Narcos and starred Michael Peña, Scoot McNairy, Diego Luna and more. The crime drama ran for three seasons before coming to an end in 2021. Masalva also appeared in several Mexican series, including La Guzmán, Tengo Que Morir Todas Las Noches and more.
Ireland Baldwin gave fans a glimpse at her daughter’s connection with her dad, Alec Baldwin, in celebration of his birthday.
“Happy birthday to Peepaw,” Ireland, 29, wrote via Instagram on Thursday, April 3, sharing a throwback photo of Holland, now 22 months, and Alec, 67, whom the toddler calls “Peepaw.”
Ireland, who is the eldest of Alec’s children, appeared to be writing from her daughter’s point of view, adding, “I’m so glad you were born. Because of your born-ness, I was born-ed. I love you!” Alec replied in the comments section, “And I love you.”
The Boss Baby actor had a big grin on his face in the photo while Holland stood on his lap. The little one threw her hands up over her head while posing for the snap.
While Ireland paid tribute to her father from afar his other seven children saw the birthday boy in person on Thursday.

“Happy Birthday, Alec . We love you!” his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, captioned an Instagram video of their children singing Alec “Happy Birthday” around their kitchen table. Alec sang along in the video before blowing out his candles with the help of his little ones.
Alec first became a father in 1995 when he and then-wife Kim Basinger welcomed Ireland. The couple divorced in 2002 after nine years of marriage.
Alec married Hilaria, 41, in 2012 and they have since welcomed Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, 9, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 8, Romeo Alejandro David, 6, Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas, 4, María Lucía Victoria, 4, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, 2.
Ireland and Alec weathered many storms over the years, but since she became a mother in May 2023, they’ve appeared to be back on good terms. (Holland was born six months after Alec and Hilaria’s youngest, Ilaria. Ireland shares her daughter with boyfriend RAC, real name André Allen Anjos.)
“My relationship with my daughter Ireland was so negatively impacted by my divorce with her mother — and having a very protracted custody battle,” Alec recalled on the March 2 episode of his TLC series The Baldwins. “The financials were probably a year and a half and everything else was custody. It was just insanity and really tough.”
The actor noted although he regrets how he handled the divorce, he is happy with where he and Ireland stand now.
“One of my most regrettable things was how it affected Ireland,” Alec shared. “But she is grown and is 29 years old. I have a good relationship with her, and she loves the kids [I share with my wife]. She is sweet to them and is their older sister, but she isn’t in that pack.”

The eatery, located in his home state of Ohio, unveiled a new cocktail on Friday, April 4, that is seemingly directed at Green’s early career: the “Child Actor Margarita.”
“We put a childish twist on this margarita meant for those days when you just don’t wanna act like an adult. 9021-OMG #27ClubCoffee,” the restaurant teased via Instagram, adding a cheeky jab at Green’s time as David Silver on Beverly Hills, 90210 with the “9021-OMG” quip.
The bright green drink is described as “Sour. Soft. Basic.” on the 27 Club Coffee menu. It is made up of tequila, lime, agave, orange and green glitter.
The release of the Child Actor Margarita is the latest barb between Kelly, 34, and Green, 51, who have been publicly beefing since late 2024.
The feud began shortly after the “Bloody Valentine” singer (real name Colson Baker) and Megan Fox broke up in November 2024, ending a two-year engagement. The split made headlines shortly after Fox, 38, announced she was pregnant with her and Kelly’s first baby, her fourth.
Fox shares three sons, Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8, with Green. The exes were married more than 10 years before calling it quits in May 2020. Fox moved on with Kelly that same year, and they welcomed a daughter last month. (Kelly also shares daughter Casie, 15, with Emma Cannon.)
“He’s in his 30s, right?” Green asked a TMZ reporter in December 2024, referring to Kelly. “But in your 30s, I don’t know, grow up. Like, you know, she’s pregnant.”
The former BH90210 actor explained, “I just want the best for her. I want the best for the baby. I want the best for our kids.” (Green is also the father of Kassius, 23, whom he shares with ex Vanessa Marcil. He and fiancée Sharna Burgess welcomed son Zane in June 2022.)
In February, Green asked Kelly to “be honest for once in your life” via his Instagram Story after seeing a story about Kelly calling out an article written about his relationship with Fox.
The following month, Green posted direct messages he allegedly received from Kelly to his own social media feed. “Stop asking when our child is gonna born. You the FEDS,” one message allegedly from the rapper read. “Quit calling TMZ and focus on that apology you owe me for speaking on my name in public.”
Kelly’s alleged rant included a jab at Green’s career. “You chose the wrong one to f*** with mr child actor. Go back to cereal commercials,” the musician’s reported message read.
Green quipped, “I didn’t know ‘child actor’ was something bad. Leo [DiCaprio], careful. He may be coming for you next.”
As Green and Kelly publicly exchanged jabs, Fox has remained neutral as she recently gave birth to her and Kelly’s baby girl. However, a source exclusively told Us Weekly in March that the actress “does not love that MGK is fighting with Brian.”
The insider added, “Megan wants to stay out of their fighting. She feels it’s their issue, not hers.”
Buckingham Palace has issued a statement hoping to clarify the nature of a meeting between King Charles and his younger brother, Prince Andrew.
Andrew, 65, has long been embroiled in controversy, most recently due to his ties to alleged Chinese spy, Yang Tengbo. Tengbo, known by his codename H6, is said to be involved in the Duke of York’s Eurasia Fund, which is intended to raise money for renewable energy projects in Africa.
Yang had denied any wrongdoing and was barred from entering the U.K. in December 2024.
“While His Majesty met with the Duke and his adviser to hear outline proposals for independent funding over the past year, the individual known as H6 was not mentioned at any time or in any way as part of these discussions,” the statement read.
The statement came after written testimony by Dominic Hampshire, a former senior aide to Andrew, alleged that the Prince and King Charles discussed the Eurasia Fund during their meeting.
Though Andrew may have mentioned the fund in meetings with his brother, Hello! reports that “the fund wasn’t discussed in detail and neither the monarch or his advisers gave their approval.”
Pool/Samir Hussein/WireImage
Andrew, for his part, said in December that he had cut off all contact with Yang, and that while dealing with him, “nothing of a sensitive nature [was] ever discussed.” He added that the two met through official channels and he was “unable to comment further on matters relating to national security.”
Buckingham Palace’s statement comes days after another scandal in Andrew’s life took an unexpected turn. Virginia Giuffre, the woman who accused Andrew of sexual misconduct amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, is in the hospital recovering from a bus accident. She took to Instagram on Sunday, March 30, where she said she had only four days to live.
“This year has been the worst start to a new year, but I won’t bore anyone with the details but I think it important to note that when a school bus driver comes at you driving 110km as we were slowing for a turn that no matter what your car is made of it might as well be a tin can,” she captioned a post of herself in what appeared to be a hospital bed with visible injuries.
Local police confirmed there was, in fact, a “minor crash” involving a school bus and car on March 24 but that no injuries were reported.
Giuffre, 41, was reportedly in court days before the crash for allegedly breaching a family violence restraining order. The Daily Mail reported that Giuffre appeared in court in Perth, Australia, near where the accident took place.
Nursing influencer Hailey Okula’s husband, Matthew Okula, is trying his best to turn his pain into purpose.
Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Fire Department engineer’s life was turned upside down when his wife died from an amniotic fluid embolism (AFE) after giving birth to their first child, son Crew. She was 33.
“Hailey was more than I could have ever dreamed of in a wife and partner,” Matthew wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, April 1, when confirming his wife’s passing. “She was gorgeous, smart, hardworking, passionate, trustworthy and above all else, unbelievably loyal.”
While Matthew processes the sudden loss, the firefighter is remembering his wife’s greatest attributes while also speaking out about AFE in hopes of bringing awareness, funding and research.
Through tears, he spoke to Us Weekly on Friday, April 4, for an emotional and honest interview to talk about Hailey’s life, her tragic and untimely death, their love story, fertility journey, Crew’s first days and more.
Support the Okulas by also visiting the family’s GoFundMe.
Hailey’s story has resonated with so many people. What is your reaction to the outpouring of support since she passed and since your son was born?
I feel like I’m almost like… two different bodies. The part of me that’s grieving unbelievably is always there and it hasn’t lightened. It’s more than I can even express — no words could even say how empty my life feels right now. And it’s hard because it’s not making that part better, but another part of me is overwhelmed with how much support is flooding in.
I’ve been thinking about so many things. I’ve been a fireman for over 10 years. People who know the fire service know it’s so big, but also so small. Firemen have each other’s backs, and there’s always support. I have so many brothers and sisters on the job who would be there for me for anything. Hailey has been a part of the fire family for 10 years, and I’ve always known that was there.
I can’t even keep up with a fraction of the emails and messages I’m getting — from firemen and their spouses from different states — offering condolences and support.
I never imagined the nursing community was that tight. Hailey [had] such a trusted following of so many people — it’s unbelievable. I like to think that I’m a pretty special person, but I know that this wouldn’t have been national news if not for her. That’s just how special and impactful she was.
The nursing community is stepping up so much. It’s Hailey’s footprint that’s making all of this happen. I had a rough morning today and I just thought “she’s still making things happen even when she’s not physically here. She’s getting people to support me and Crew so I can figure things out.”
She helped millions of people as an educator. Her nursing community is buying her products, sending messages, praying, donating. The support is overwhelming.
Hailey would love to see her business thriving like this. She worked so hard. Seeing it flourish — and knowing people are learning about who she was — brings me joy.
Her spirit seems to still be here in how you’re experiencing everything.
Yeah, I’m a spiritual guy, but I’ve never really believed in seeing signs or things like that. But I prayed hard for signs that Hailey was watching over me, and every day something happens. Even this interview alone. I’m sitting in her office now, looking around at everything she built. She was a go-getter, and that drive is living on. She’s continuing to make sure me and Crew are going to be okay in these unprecedented times.

What do you think that says about her?
I have so many words, and I don’t know how to describe it in a sentence. She loved nursing. She loved being an entrepreneur. She loved helping others — the nursing community, my family, everyone. She loved giving back.
She wanted to make a difference for new nurses. A lot of times new grads get bullied by older nurses, and Hailey was adamant about fostering a healthy environment. She stood up for new grads, even if it meant calling people out on her platform of a million followers. That’s how loyal she was.
She started this business to help nurses find jobs. When she was looking, she’d click links and get nowhere. It was exhausting and frustrating. So she started an Instagram page, spent her whole day filtering links, and posted verified job listings for new grads. It removed a burden from them. Her giving spirit created a business that grew and grew. We dreamed of that business letting us spend more time with Crew and build our life together.
She loved helping people.
Exactly. More than anything. I want to say how much of an impact she had — especially sharing our fertility journey. It was a big deal for her to open up about that. She wanted her followers to connect with her and feel less alone. A lot of nurses are trying to start families too, and she knew her story could reassure them.
We talked about sharing it. I was hesitant and wanted to keep it private. But the next morning, I saw a huge post about it on Instagram. I wasn’t mad. I wasn’t surprised. That’s just Hailey.
We were flooded with messages from people thanking her for sharing. It helped so many. Even at work, in a firehouse where that stuff isn’t usually discussed, guys started opening up about their own struggles. She made an impact far beyond nursing.
Can you tell me about your and Hailey’s journey to parenthood?
We got married on September 16, 2022. We were both really healthy people — she was a Division I athlete, and I’m a fireman. We love working out and taking care of ourselves, so we didn’t expect any trouble trying to have a baby. We just wanted everything lined up perfectly first.
We started trying right after the wedding. A few months in, nothing happened. That’s normal, we thought. But after eight months, we started to wonder. We both got tested. She had something minor that might make it a little harder, but nothing that should’ve stopped us from getting pregnant.
I did a full semen analysis — just trying to be supportive — and it came back that while I had plenty, the activity and shape of the sperm were really poor. I broke down. I crumbled. I felt like it all fell on me.
Courtesy of Hailey Okula/Instagram
That’s such a heavy burden.
Yeah, and I knew the road ahead would be hard, but I also knew it would be so much harder for her. I apologized to her, and she didn’t even cry. She just grabbed me and said, “We’re a team. We’ll get through this together.”
We decided to go forward with IVF. It was hard financially, but we were all in.
Out of six embryos, one had Down syndrome, two had PKU [a rare inherited disorder also known as Phenylketonuria], one had a chromosome issue that would likely lead to miscarriage. That left us with two healthy embryos — a boy and a girl.
We decided on the boy first. We wanted Crew to be the big brother. The girl, Oakley Ann, was meant to be our next baby.
She would’ve been an exceptional mom.
She would’ve been such a good mom. We had so many plans — trips, activities, dreams for Crew. She was so excited. After everything we went through, it made the moment that much more meaningful.
Tell us about the moment Crew was born.
She was 41 weeks, so we had to induce. We planned a vaginal birth, but after a long labor, he wasn’t dropping, and we decided on a C-section. We went into the OR on Saturday morning. I was by her head, holding her hand, telling her how proud I was.
We heard him cry. A tear rolled down her face. They held him up over the sheet and she said, “Oh s***, he’s big.” Everyone who knew her knew she’d say something like that.
They brought him to the incubator. I didn’t want to leave her, but I went over and cut the cord. They told me to go with Crew to the next room, and she’d be there shortly. I held her hand and told her he was beautiful, then went with the baby.
You wanted her to hold him first?
Yes. She deserved that. We deserved that family moment. I was waiting in the room, and then the doctor came in and said her oxygen had dropped. Then [the doctor] came back shortly after and said her heart stopped — they were doing CPR.
I ran to the ICU. They had gotten her pulse back, but then she coded again. I stood at the foot of her bed for an hour, holding her foot, praying, talking to her, begging her to fight. They tried everything. But they couldn’t get her back.
She had an amniotic fluid embolism. It’s incredibly rare and devastating. Her OBGYN said they were doing everything they could, but it just took over.
I couldn’t wrap my head around it. She was so healthy, everything had gone well, and then suddenly she was gone.
Even in the ICU with every specialist — cardiologists, pulmonologists — no one could save her. It was just so fast, and her body was hit with everything at once: heart failure, lung failure, internal bleeding. There’s no treatment protocol for this. It’s just rolling with each complication as it comes and trying to keep the patient alive.

You’re hoping her story brings awareness and possibly funding and research.
Exactly. That would bring so much joy — knowing she’s making a difference even now. We’re speaking with Miranda, the founder of the Amniotic Fluid Embolism Foundation. So many people are now asking about it. Hailey would want this awareness to help save lives.
Hailey is reminding me to keep going, to raise Crew the way we talked about. We were dealt a hand that seems so unfair, but I know what she’d want. I’m going to be an amazing dad for Crew.
Are you already telling him stories about his mom?
I talk to him about her constantly. I want him to know how amazing she was — how much she’s still doing for us. He’s going to hear about her all the time. I show him her nursing skits, her gymnastics videos. She wasn’t just a brilliant entrepreneur — she was a Division I gymnast, an amazing wife, sister, daughter, and friend. She impacted so many people.
Do you look at Crew as your miracle baby?
Absolutely. Our families are amazing, but the bond between me and Crew — that’s the connection I have with her now.
Do you feel her presence?
I do. I never used to believe in signs, but I’ve been praying for them — clear signs that she’s here. And she’s showing up. The nursing community, the support, the donations — she’s still making things happen.
This morning, I sat in my car, not able to move. I was waiting for Hailey’s friend to come over. Then I heard her voice — clear as day — calling to our dog Brody just like she used to. It snapped me out of it. I got out of the car, expecting her. But no one was there. That was her.
She knew you needed help in that moment. That’s beautiful.
Yeah, I just need those signs to keep coming.
You’re an engineer with the Los Angeles Fire Department — you save lives. So did Hailey. In your own life, she’s clearly your hero. Is that how you see her?
Absolutely. That doesn’t even begin to describe it. She’s my hero in every way. As a wife, a partner, a friend. We had such a beautiful relationship. We’d been through so much, but we always got through it. And now, after everything, she’s even more magnified in my heart.
Will there be a memorial for people to celebrate her?
Yes. We’re doing a public candlelight vigil on Saturday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. in Huntington Beach, California. We’ll use Sea Lake as a general meeting point. We want to show the love and support she inspired. We’ll also have a private service for family and close friends later.
Robert Downey Jr. is now one of the highest-grossing actors of all time, but he went on a rollercoaster journey to cement his status as a Hollywood legend.
Born in April 1965, Downey Jr. is the younger of two children shared by the late Robert Downey Sr., an actor and filmmaker, and Elsie Ann Ford, an actress. Long before he became Tony Stark, Downey Jr. made his acting debut in his father’s film Pound at the age of 5 and held a small role just a couple of years later in 1972’s Greaser’s Palace.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t just acting talent that the father and son shared. The late Downey Sr. struggled with substance abuse and let Downey Jr. try marijuana when he was just 6 years old. Downey Jr. battled drug addiction due to growing up in a household where he claimed “everyone was doing drugs” in a 1988 interview for Karen Hardy’s book The New Breed: Actors Coming of Age. He even said that substance abuse was something he bonded with his father over.
After being fired from Ally McBeal in 2001 and given the choice of prison or rehabilitation, Downey Jr. realized he needed to get sober and spent the next two years in rehab. He landed his first film role in The Singing Detective after getting sober and starred in Gothika where he met future wife, Susan Levin.
The two married in 2005 and he credits her for helping him on his sobriety journey. Filming for Gothika wrapped up and Downey Jr. was tempted to relapse, but Levin gave him an ultimatum. Something clicked for Downey Jr., because the next thing he did was stop at a Burger King on the Pacific Coast Highway and threw his drugs into the ocean.
Keep scrolling to see the highlights of Downey Jr.’s career in photos:
When his parents divorced in 1978, Downey Jr. moved with his father to California. He dropped out of high school and moved back to New York to live with his mother four years later to pursue acting full-time and landed a role in the Off-Broadway musical American Passion.
Downey Jr. had his acting breakthrough in 1985’s Tuff Turf as Jimmy Parker and as Ian in Weird Science. His first lead role was in 1987 as Jack Jericho in The Pick-Up Artist.
The Johnny Be Good actor married Deborah Falconer in 1992 and welcomed son Indio the following year.
Downey Jr. earned much acclaim for his portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in 1993’s Chaplin. He received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role and won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor.
Downey Jr. scored his first Golden Globe win in 1994. The special award was outside of the competitive categories and was given to specifically honor the ensemble cast of Short Cuts, which also included Julianne Moore, Jack Lemmon and Tim Robbins.
He was arrested several times between 1996 to 2000 for drug-related charges. In 1996, he was charged with possession of cocaine, heroin and an unloaded .357-caliber Magnum. He was sentenced to three years of probation and drug testing. After missing a court-ordered drug test in 1997, Downey Jr. had to spend 113 days in a Los Angeles County jail.
Amid his struggle with addiction and the law, Falconer separated from Downey Jr. in 1996 after four years of marriage, but she didn’t file for a divorce until 2001. Their split was finalized in 2004.
He missed another drug test in 1999 and was sentenced to three years at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, though he was released early in August 2000. One week later, he was cast on the hit series Ally McBeal, but he was arrested for drug use again in November.
“It was just playing a game of wanting to self-soothe or stay loaded, rather than deal with the fact that things had gone off the tracks a little bit,” Downey Jr. said in the 2022 documentary, Sr.
Though Downey Jr. earned an Emmy nomination and won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film, he was fired from the show in April 2001. Following his November 2000 arrest, he was found high and barefoot in April 2001.
After his April arrest, the actor was ready to take recovery seriously. He entered a live-in rehabilitation center later that month. When he faced the court the following July, he pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and was sentenced to three years probation. He was also officially ordered to attend a residential rehab for one year.
After rehab, it was difficult for studios to insure Downey given his history. He made a return to the big screen after Mel Gibson, a close friend, paid his insurance bond for 2003’s The Singing Detective. Downey Jr. starred in Gothika (where producers held 40 percent of his salary until production wrapped as insurance) and met future wife, Susan Levin, on set.
In 2004, Downey Jr. released his debut studio album, The Futurist. He married Levin a year later and the two share children, Exton and Avri. Downey Jr. appeared in Shane Black’s directorial debut of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and the 2007 thriller Zodiac.
Downey Jr. started his journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the title character of 2008’s Iron Man and made a cameo as Tony Stark in The Incredible Hulk. After the film's worldwide success, Downey Jr. had agreed to two Iron Man sequels as well as the first Avengers film.
Downey Jr. starred alongside Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. He earned Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his role of Kirk Lazarus.
Downey Jr. earned a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy as the titular character in Sherlock Holmes. He returned as Tony Stark in Iron Man 2 that same year, and founded the production company, Team Downey, with his wife.
Downey was regularly on the big screen as Tony Stark. Over the next seven years, he starred in The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. His final film as Iron Man, Endgame, became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, earning more than $2.7 billion worldwide.
Downey Jr. portrayed the United States Atomic Energy Commission member, Lewis Strauss, in Oppenheimer. The film follows American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy), who is credited for his role in the Manhattan Project during World War II.
The Oppenheimer star won a Golden Globe and an Oscar for his portrayal of Rear Admiral Lewis Strauss. In July 2024, it was announced that Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, which will premiere in 2026.

One of the reasons why Netflix is still the most popular streamer around is that it has shows from all over the world.
If there’s ever a week where you can’t find something new to watch in English, there’s a mountain of international series waiting for you.
What to Watch’s picks for the three underrated Netflix shows to watch this weekend include series from Spain and South Korea that both have the potential to become breakout hits in this country as well.
But the first pick of the weekend is Netflix’s stab at making a medical drama that seems to follow some very familiar patterns.
‘Pulse’ (2025)
If you can’t get enough of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix, the streamer now has a soapy medical drama of its very own. Pulse is set at Maguire Hospital in Miami, and there’s never any shortage of patients who need emergency care. That is if the doctors and residents can break away from their own steamy affairs.
There’s a lot of unresolved tension between third-year resident Danielle “Danny” Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) and the hospital’s Chief Resident of Emergency Medicine Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell). So much so that she’s filed a sexual harassment suit against him. If they thought their workplace was tense before, wait until their colleagues start taking sides even before the full story of what happened between them is revealed.
The Lady’s Companion is a Spanish romance series that may give you Bridgerton vibes. The title character, Elena Bianda (Nadia de Santiago), is a relatively young woman living in Madrid during the 1880s. Although Elena has never married, she’s developed a talent for helping women younger than she is find suitable matches of their own.
However, Elena may have taken on too much for her latest assignment, which calls upon her to chaperone three sisters: Cristina (Isa Montalbán), Sara (Zoe Bonafonte) and Carlota (Iratxe Emparan). Elena is very good at her job, but even she can’t be in three places at once. One of these young ladies is going to cause a scandal that could threaten their family’s standing, and Elena has to find a way to fix that. She may even find someone to love for herself.
Karma is a new South Korean thriller that pieces together a twisty narrative over six episodes. The name of the series is also a promise that some very unsavory people are going to get what’s coming to them.
No one deserves it more than the Debtor (Jun Hee Lee), a man who is so deeply in debt to a loan shark that he asks his co-worker Gil-ryong (Kim Sung-kyun), to set up the Debtor’s father for a hit-and-run accident so he can claim the life insurance fee.
Unfortunately for them, someone beat them to the punch and now a murder investigation is underway. Squid Game’s Park Hae-soo co-stars as a witness who saw what really happened to the Debtor’s father — and he’ll only stay quiet for a price.
Since welcoming their first baby together last week, there’s been a “noticeable change” between Megan Fox and her ex Machine Gun Kelly, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. “The baby has brought them closer together,” the insider adds, noting that the parents are “obsessed” with their little girl. Months after she and Kelly, 34, split, Fox, 38, gave birth to their daughter on March 27. “Megan has noticed his energy is different, the look in his eyes is different, his aura has changed,” the source says. “She feels the baby is exactly what he needed, and she is hoping it sticks.” Read on for more exclusive updates and top stories:

Dan Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino don’t seem opposed to the idea of filming more Gilmore Girls— or working with Lauren Graham again.
At the Amy-Sherman Palladino Universe PaleyFest event on Saturday, March 29, Sherman-Palladino, 59, explained that she and her husband, 65, were happy with how they finished the series with 2016’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix.
“A Year in the Life meant we got to actually end it the way we wanted to end it,” she shared with Us Weekly. “So I feel very happy.”
While Palladino, 65, seemed to agree with his wife, he also couldn’t help hinting that there could be more Gilmore Girls in the future.
Gilmore Girls, which ran from 2000 to 2007, followed the lives of single mother Lorelai (Graham) and her academically gifted daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) as they live in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. (Sherman-Palladino and her husband weren’t part of season 7.)

While there aren’t any plans to renew Gilmore Girls quite yet, Sherman-Palladino hopes she gets the opportunity to work with Graham, 58, again in some capacity.
“She was working while we were doing Étoile, which is annoying,” Sherman-Palladino told Us, referring to her and Palladino’s new Prime Video series. “Again, I only want her working with me, but you never know. I definitely want to get back in Lauren’s face on a daily basis.”
Although they’d love to reconnect with Graham again, the couple did reunite with some of the actors they’ve previously worked with, including Yanic Truesdale and Kelly Bishop from Gilmore Girls and Luke Kirby and Gideon Glick from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
“We just need the best of the best and we’ve been very lucky to work with the best, and they spoil us because we think everybody’s going to be like that and not everybody’s like that,” Sherman-Palladino told Us. “So we long to work with them again.”
Étoile, which also stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Lou de Laâge, David Alvarez and Simon Callow, will follow the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies as they swap their most talented stars.
While the story is fictionalized, the producing partners later learned that something similar may have happened in real life.
“Someone told us there was an actual swap that we knew nothing about, and it might’ve made our job a lot easier if we had known about it at that time,” Sherman-Palladino explained. “Literally I would say, ‘Hey, kids, do your research! Save yourself some time.’ But we didn’t know! And it’s a great idea! So hopefully it worked.”
Étoile premieres on Prime Video Thursday, April 24.
The couple tied the knot in 2005, two years after they met on the set of 2003’s Gothika. Downey portrayed Dr. Pete Graham in the horror flick, while Susan served as a producer on the film. Susan even helped her husband score one of his biggest roles to date, Sherlock Holmes, by suggesting his casting to director Guy Ritchie.
“If Susan hadn’t been in the room, Robert probably wouldn’t have become Sherlock Holmes,” Ritchie told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2014. “She facilitated it, definitely.”
In addition to welcoming their two children, Exton and Avri, the couple have teamed up on a number of projects over the years through their production company, Team Downey, including The Judge, Dolittle and Sweet Tooth. (Robert also shares son Indio with ex-wife, Deborah Falconer, whom he was married to from 1992 to 2004.)
Scroll down to relive Robert and Susan’s biggest relationship moments:
2003
Robert and Susan met on the set of the film Gothika, which also starred Halle Berry and Penélope Cruz. “Everybody else ordered Japanese, but Robert told us how oatmeal was the ‘superfood,’” Susan recalled of their early interactions in an October 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “He brought his own packets of oatmeal to have at lunch. And he had this box of various herbs and stuff. And then he started doing these yoga moves. I mean, he was interesting but weird.”
In October of that year, the duo made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Robert’s film The Singing Detective. They announced their engagement one month later.

Susan revealed that their romance helped Robert overcome his addiction battle. “[I said], ‘This isn’t gonna work.’ I made it clear that to stay with me, nothing could happen,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I think he saw what we had. There was something magical there, something we couldn’t put our finger on. He always says that we became this third thing when we got together — something that neither of us could have become by ourselves — and I think that’s true.” (Robert has been drug-free since 2003.)
January 2010
Robert gave his wife a hilarious shout-out while winning Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Sherlock Holmes at the 2010 Golden Globes. “First of all, I’d like to thank Susan Downey for telling me that Matt Damon was going to win, so don’t bother to prepare a speech,” he joked.
He added: “I really don’t want to thank my wife because I could be bussing tables at the Daily Grill if not for her. Jesus, what a gig that would be.”
Robert and Susan launched their production company, Team Downey, which has gone on to make documentaries such as 2022’s Sr., which followed the relationship between Robert and his late father. Robert Downey Sr., and shows such as Perry Mason.

We just enjoy a bit of whimsey and fun. And we definitely don’t like boring.”

Jenna Bush Hager is getting real about being a parent and raising children.
During a recent episode of the Today show, Bush Hager recalled a revelation she had a few years ago while celebrating Halloween with her family, which includes husband Henry Hager and their three children, Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5.
“I had this really crazy realization maybe two years ago. We’d always had Halloween with our family and family friends,” Bush Hager, 43, explained, before her oldest daughter, Mila, hit her with a statement that initially took her by surprise.
“Mila, my daughter was like, ‘I want to go trick-or-treating with other people,’” Bush Hager recalled. “At first, I was like, ‘Wait — what? Like, how dare you.’”
But after taking a step back, Bush Hager faced a harsh truth, that a parent’s goal is to raise well-rounded, independent and confident children.
“I realized: I’m not going to be in all my kids’ memories … we should make our kids feel confident so they can go and be their own people,” Bush Hager shared.
And many fellow parents agreed in the comments.

“So hard, but so important!” one commenter wrote.
“Beautifully said,” shared another fan.
“Definitely needed to hear this today navigating the pre-teen years!” a fellow mom added.
In 2023, Bush Hager told People that her most important job of all the jobs she holds is being a mom.
“It goes so fast,” she said of making her time spent with her kids count. “I have a 10-year-old. It feels like she was born yesterday,” she said of Mila at the time.

“So I want every moment with them to be precious. And I want them to feel my presence not just to think that ‘Mommy’s home and she’s tired again.’”
And the love for her kids and for creating last memories with her kids while she still can was the inspiration behind her latest children’s book she wrote with her sister, Barbara Bush, titled I Loved You First.
Bush Hager told Hello! that she wants “[love] to be the last thing they hear before they go to bed, but also I want to cheer up and to feel that before I go to sleep.”
She added that she believes their book is a “sort of mediation on parental love” and “how much we love our kids.”
Access Hollywood coanchor Kit Hoover has filed for divorce from her husband of 25 years, Athlete Advantage CEO Crowley Sullivan.
According to documents obtained by Us Weekly on Friday, April 6, Hoover, 54, filed the paperwork on March 26 in a Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as a reason for the split.
She and Sullivan married in August 1999 but separated in May of last year, according to the documents. They share daughters Campbell, 22, and Hayes, 21, and son Crowley Jr. Crowley Jr., 18, is listed as a minor in the filing. Hoover is seeking joint legal and physical custody.
Hoover also indicated that she and her estranged husband have come to a separate support agreement.
Us Weekly confirmed in December that Hoover and Crowley had separated, with a source saying, “She’s been telling people she is single and getting divorced.”
People was first to report the news of their separation.
“How do you maintain that? I mean, it’s one thing to say it, but I know you really live it,” Hoover said. “Any nuggets you could share on that?”
Hurley explained that she sees her exes as family.
“I wouldn’t know how to not have them in my life, in a way, because it would really be like not talking to my brother again,” she said. “Or a family member. I do feel like they’re family and still have all those same feelings that you have for family. Where you can be frustrated and pissed off with them, of course you can. But you’d also be incredibly protective over them.”
Talk of a potential split between Hoover and Sullivan intensified last year when Hoover appeared to ditch her wedding ring. Though she posts frequently on Instagram, she also seemed to stop featuring her husband.
It’s a stark difference from the year before, when she posted a tribute to him on their 24th wedding anniversary.
“Holy Cow – We are 24 years old in this pic and NOW – Happy 24th anniversary Honeybun!!!” she wrote under the August 2023 post. “Thanks for loving this lunatic and for our beautiful family that is my EVERYTHING. I love you. #stillhavingfun #stilltheone #grateful #joyfulliving.”
While she didn’t post a similar tribute on their 25th anniversary last year, she has made sure to honor each of her kids along the way. On March 16, Crowley Jr.’s 18th birthday, she posted a slideshow of photos from his childhood.
“You’ve always been the ‘talk of the town,’” she wrote in the caption. “Happy Birthday sweets!!! I say it all the time, YOU are pure SUNSHINE. Keep shining bright. WE LOVE YOU!!!!!”
