Survivor’s Parvati Shallow Is 'Dying' for ‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 to Drop

Survivors Parvati Shallow Is Obsessed With The White Lotus and Is Dying for Season 3 to Drop

Parvati Shallow is anxiously awaiting for the latest season of The White Lotus to premiere.

“I’m dying for season 3 of White Lotus to drop,” the former Survivor winner, 42, exclusively reveals to Us Weekly about her latest TV obsession.

The award-winning HBO anthology series, which was created by Mike White, follows a group of guests staying at the luxurious White Lotus resort. Each season focuses on a new set of characters staying at the hotel chain in different parts of the world. Before coming up with the idea of the series, White competed on Survivor in its David vs. Goliath season. In each season of The White Lotus, White has called on several of his fellow Survivor tribemates to make cameos in each season.

“How much longer are you going to make us wait, Mike White?” Shallow jokingly asks of her fellow Survivor alum.

‘White Lotus’ Season 3 Gets HBO Release Date and Teaser Trailer

Luckily, Shallow and other fans won’t have to wait for The White Lotus much longer as season 3 is scheduled to premiere on February 16 on HBO.

In addition to being enthralled with The White Lotus, Shallow is also obsessed with “The Handsome Podcast” and the book All Fours by Miranda July.

“It’s rare that a book grabs me like this one did,” the Traitors alum explains of the novel. “It’s weird, kinky, funny, sad and so smart. It hooks into female desire and creativity in the most bizarre and compelling way.”

As for blockbusters, Shallow and her daughter Ama, 6, were both impressed with the film adaptation of Wicked.

“I took my daughter to see Wicked and [she] was blown away by the absolute majesty of that movie!” Shallow says of her daughter whom she shares with ex-husband John Fincher. “The fashion, the colors, the magic, the singing, the sizzling chemistry. Everything popped off the screen and by the end I was flying on the back of that broom with my girl Elphie.”

Survivor's Parvati Shallow Comes Out as 'Queer,' Kisses Mae Martin

When not watching TV or movies, Shallow also enjoys listening to singer Kendall Jane Meade.

“My girl Kendall Jane Meade recently released her post-divorce album. It’s folksy and hopeful,” Shallow shares of what’s on her playlist. “I know what it took for her to write and produce those songs. I’m so proud of her and I’m listening to it all the time!”

While fans couldn’t get enough of Shallow on season 2 of The Traitors last year, she’s making her return to reality TV for Deal or No Deal Island season 2. She’s following in the footsteps of fellow Survivor winner — and friend — Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano who came in fourth place on the inaugural season of the NBC competition series.

Deal or No Deal Island premieres on Tuesday, January 7, at 8 p.m. ET.

General Hospital star Steve Burton and girlfriend Michelle Lundstrom are engaged.

“Engaged 1/3/25. ❤💍♾,” Burton, 54, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, January 4, alongside a slideshow of sweet photos of the couple from their engagement. One snap captured the moment where Burton got down one one knee and popped the question.

Burton’s caption continued, “Jeremiah 29:11. ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Well-wishers flooded the comments section to congratulate the happy couple, including Burton’s General Hospital costars.

Messiest Real-Life Soap Opera Splits: From Steve Burton to Justin Hartley

“Steve and Michelle, I wish you both a long, loving, and fruitful life together! Congratulations!” wrote costar Rick Hearst, while fellow cast member Finola Hughes gushed, “Congratulations! I wish you both all the happiness in the future, you are a wonderful couple! Congratulations, Michelle!”

Burton was previously married to Sheree Gustin from 1999 to 2022, with whom he shares three children: daughters Makena and Brooklyn and son Jack.

Burton’s last marriage made headlines in May 2022 when it was revealed that he and Gustin, 46, had split after 23 years of marriage, and she was expecting a baby with another man. (The pair had legally separated in March that year.)

“I wanted to clear something up. Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine,” the General Hospital star wrote online at the time. “We are still coparenting our three beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”

Gustin went on to welcome her fourth child, daughter Izabella, in February 2023 and the father’s identity has been kept private. (She gave birth to baby No. 5, daughter Addy, in February 2024.)

As for Burton, the soap opera star confirmed his and Lundstrom’s relationship to the Daily Drama in May 2024, but it wasn’t until the following months that the pair made their red carpet debut at the Daytime Emmy Awards last June.

“Our first red carpet together. It was a dream of a night from beginning to end,” Lundstrom wrote via Instagram in June, as she gushed over the night out with her partner. “Thank you for all the beautiful, kind comments & messages. I’m truly grateful ❤🙏🏼.”

At the time, Burton’s General Hospital costar Kirsten Storms wrote in the comments, “You are so cute together, this photo is almost hard to look at. 🥰 ❤.”

Gretchen Mol Talks Life After ‘90s ‘It Girl’ Fame: ‘Stakes Aren’t So High’

Gretchen Mol is opening up about her life after being the “It Girl” of the ‘90s.

“There’s always new fresh faces in Hollywood,” Mol, 52, told People in an interview published on Saturday, January 4. “It’s a constant wheel that turns over. And it is a youth-loving business — that’s a reality there, but that’s okay.

Mol is perhaps best known for her role as Gillian in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, but she has also starred in films such as Rounders, The Notorious Bettie Page, 3:10 to Yuma and Manchester by the Sea.

“I think getting older as an actor actually frees you up. You have more wisdom, more moments where you’ve been both up and down, and the stakes aren’t so high,” Mol told the outlet. “Your jobs become more about the fun and process of creating, rather than what people are going to think about the result or say about you.”

Celebrity Moms Who Stepped Away From Hollywood After Having Kids

Mol’s career has slowed down since she was dubbed the quintessential “It Girl” by Vanity Fair in 1998. She moved from New York City to the Berkshires during the COVID-19 pandemic, choosing to stay there with husband Tod Williams to raise their two teenage children: 17-year-old son Ptolemy and 14-year-old daughter Winter.

“We still go to the city when we need to, but the kids go to school locally,” Mol told People. “It’s such a small, lovely community that we found here. Most people, I know what they do for a living, they know what I do. And it’s just nice to be with them, to know everyone’s names. It’s just really good people.”

According to Mol, her kids are less than interested in her past career accomplishments. “Vanity Fair, in particular, meant something in a way that if I tried to explain to my kids, they’d just be like, ‘What?’” she explained.

Mol is currently starring in Ed Burns’ upcoming movie, Millers in Marriage, which follows an aging, once-cool rock star navigating her second act as she deals with a failing marriage.

Celebrity Parenting Tips of 2024, From Angelina Jolie to Ryan Reynolds

“It’s conversations I have with friends,” she said of the script, which she found relatable with regards to a phase of life where your children don’t demand as much of your attention as they once did.

“I was fortunate that I kept working while raising kids, but my priorities shifted,” Mol continued. “But now I have more time to think about those endeavors I always wanted to do.”

Aubrey Plaza’s Husband Jeff Baena Cause of Death Revealed

Prep: Jeff Baena's Cause of Death Revealed

A cause of death for Aubrey Plaza’s husband, director Jeff Baena, has been revealed.

According to medical examiner records reviewed by Us Weekly, Baena’s official cause of death is listed as suicide. The same medical records revealed that an exam was conducted and his body can be released to the family. At the time of publication, the case status is still listed as “open” despite a cause of death being determined.

No additional causes or significant conditions regarding Baena’s passing were listed.

Baena died on Friday, January 3, at the age of 47, according to the same medical examiner records also viewed by Us. Up until now, the circumstances surrounding his death were unknown.

Baena is survived by Plaza, 40, who has not yet publicly addressed her husband’s passing. Us has reached out for comment.

Aubrey Plaza and Late Husband Jeff Baena’s Relationship Timeline

Baena and Plaza first started dating in 2011 and officially tied the knot in 2020 after a decade together. The pair kept their relationship largely private, but Plaza opened up about her and Baena’s nuptials during a December 2021 appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show.

“A lot of things happened during COVID for me. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled at the time. “We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up.”

The Agatha All Along alum shared at the time that she and her husband had wed at home during lockdown.

“I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature,” she continued at the time. “Then the man from Alhambra showed up in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase [to perform the ceremony]. … I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”

Aubrey Plaza Says She ‘Forgot How to Talk’ After Suffering a Stroke at 20

While both Baena and Plaza each had their own successful solo careers, they were able to work together on numerous projects, including Life After Beth, The Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

“She’s awesome. I’d be working with her if she wasn’t my wife, but luckily she is my wife,” Baena told Reel Talker of working potentially with his wife in August 2022. “The opportunity to do something creative [together] where we’re both fulfilled — how rare is that?”

Months before Baena’s death, Plaza had briefly discussed her marriage during a September 2024 appearance on the Howard Stern Show. “I would stay away [from dating actors],” she quipped at the time. “I’m married to a writer/director. I’ve never, like, really dated an actor [or] been with an actor for a long time.”

She added, “I think about that and I think, like, ‘Oh, God, I don’t want to be with myself’ or, ‘I don’t want to do that.’ But then, sometimes, I see there are so many actor couples and you’re, like, ‘Wow, look at them. They must really laugh it up.’”

‘Maid in Manhattan’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

The film Maid in Manhattan has been captivating rom-com lovers for the past 20 years.

In the 2002 movie, Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) plays a single mother who works as a maid in a fancy Manhattan hotel and dreams of a better life for her son Ty (Tyler Posey). She meets Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), the heir to a political dynasty, who winds up thinking that Marisa is a guest at the hotel. After one romantic evening together, the pair fall in love. Twenty years after the movie hit theaters, Fiennes revealed that while filming Maid in Manhattan, he was caught with Lopez by the paparazzi and ended up acting as a decoy to the public to hide the early days of her and Ben Affleck’s relationship.

“I was set up,” the Grand Budapest Hotel actor shared during a November 2022 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. “I was asked out to dinner with J. Lo and her manager and her agent … We had a nice dinner, chatty chatty chatty … [Afterward,] I think I was walking home, but [we gave each other a] peck on the cheek goodnight. But somehow, the pictures were angled so that as she’s walking away, [it looks like] I’m walking after her.”

Lupe, who previously starred on Succession, was pregnant while filming Netflix’s Nobody Wants This. (Lupe portrays Morgan, the sister of Kristen Bell’s Joanne, whose character is not expecting.)

“I auditioned knowing I was pregnant and that I was not going to be telling anyone I was pregnant until I was on the set and into the show,” she told Today last month. “The more evolved, feminist version of me knew it was not my problem, and that I’m going to be private about this, and it’s my prerogative. I need to care most about my mental health and the baby.”

She added at the time, “Erin [Foster], the showrunner, was pregnant, and two other women on set were pregnant, so four of us altogether. And I’m so glad I just tried to surrender and not freak out.”

Nobody Wants This is a romantic comedy series following the unexpected love story of Joanne, an outspoken and agnostic podcaster, and a “hot rabbi” named Noah (Adam Brody). The show was loosely inspired by Foster’s real-life romance with husband Simon Tikhman. (Foster, 42, had converted to Judaism ahead of their wedding. They welcomed daughter Noa in May 2024.)

Is 'Nobody Wants This' Inspired by Erin and Sara Foster's Real Life?

Nobody Wants This was honored with three nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, which will be held on Sunday, January 5. The cast, which also stars Timothy Simons and Jackie Tohn, will later reunite for a recently renewed second season.

“I’m just excited for whatever the writers bring my way,” Lupe teased to Us on Friday. “They’re so good, they’re so talented. Jenni and Bruce are new to the show, and I just respect their work so much that I’m really looking forward to being surprised.”

‘Star Wars’ Child Star Jake Lloyd Shares Schizophrenia Health Update

Jake Lloyd, best known for playing a young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace, offered an update on his schizophrenia diagnosis.

In an interview with Clayton Sandell published via Substack on Wednesday, January 1, Lloyd, 35, shared that he was “pretty good, considering these 20 years of time that have come to an end.” He revealed in late 2024 that he was currently living in a rehabilitation center after completing an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility in Southern California.

Lloyd shared that, along with schizophrenia, he had been diagnosed with anosognosia. According to the Cleveland Clinic, anosognosia is a neurological condition that causes someone’s brain not to recognize their health conditions, often causing patients to avoid or resist treatment.

“I can now accept taking on continued treatment, and therapy, and my meds. Everyone’s been very supportive,” Lloyd shared, describing how he feels while taking his medication. “I don’t have the time for feeling volatile. It is very much a cushion.”

Lloyd was only 8 years old when he was cast as a young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. According to the former actor, his experience with Star Wars has been positive overall.

“The experience I’ve had with the fans is immediately therapeutic,” he shared. “Right now, it’s still therapeutic. It’s helpful for people and healthy. It isn’t something I’d shy away from.”

He added that he still has fond memories of his time making the Phantom Menace. “I really do appreciate the time that’s been taken on us,” Jake said. “I’m very appreciative.”

Jake’s mother, Lisa Lloyd, told Sandell, “Jake’s actually getting so much better than he was. It’s a big relief for me and the rest of his family. We’re all just thrilled that he’s doing as well as he is, and that he’s working really hard at it. We appreciate that.”

Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Reveals Health Issues Caused By Intense Anxiety

Jake was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2016 after a 10-month stint in jail. Early in 2024, Lisa had opened up about Jake’s mental health struggles and revealed that he had been admitted to a mental health rehabilitation facility in March 2023 after suffering a psychotic break.

“Jake started having some trouble in high school,” Lisa explained in March 2024, recalling the first time she noticed a change in Jake’s personality. “He started talking about ‘realities.’ He didn’t know if he was in this reality, or a different reality. I didn’t really know exactly what to say to that.”

After he was admitted to the inpatient program, Lisa shared that Jake was “doing much better than [she] expected.” She shared, “He is relating to people better and becoming a little bit more social, which is really nice. It’s kind of like having more of the old Jake back, because he has always been incredibly social until he became schizophrenic.”

Speaking with Sandell in 2024, Jake shared that he loves all of the new Star Wars media that has been released in recent years, including the new Star Wars: Ahsoka series on Disney+.

Pro Surfer Koa Smith Reflects on Being ‘Depressed, Suicidal, Heartbroken’

Pro surfer Koa Smith is opening up about his past mental health struggles in a candid Instagram post celebrating his 30th birthday.

“Oh Man… 30 years old and what a trip this life is! No one told me that with every year life as an opportunity just gets better. Slowly the rules of the game uncover day by day,” the athlete posted on Friday, January 3. “The magic just gets thicker, the colors more clear, the purpose refined, the love that surrounds me grows. My connection to life only gets deeper. I am so grateful.”

Smith, 30, went on to explain that “at times” he closes his eyes and goes back “to visit the version of myself that was struggling.”

Drew Carey Reflects on His Battle With Depression and 2 Suicide Attempts

“Concussed, depressed, suicidal, heartbroken,” he continued in the moving post, which also featured numerous photos of the surfer riding big waves, spending times with friends and enjoying the beach. “I put my hand on his heart and say it’s all worth it! You just wait, it all worth it!”

He concluded, “Thankful for everyone of you! Let the Abundance Flow and the light shine bright!”

In a March 2022 interview with The Independent, Smith opened up about a catastrophic injury he sustained while surfing in Indonesia that resulted in the surfer experiencing mental health issues.

“I heard this crazy, super peaceful violin,” he told the publication at the time, referring to the moment he crashed while attempting to ride a wave. “I had one of those moments where I was above the whole bay looking down. I could see my friends in the lineup. I could see the boats in the bay. I could see the mountains. Then all of a sudden I realized that I was actually underwater.”

He continued: “I felt maybe I was leaving my body. The weird thing was it was a very comfortable, very loving, euphoric state. There was no fear. It was just like being home.”

Celebs Who Have Spoken About Ketamine Use: Matthew Perry, More

The somewhat euphoric feeling was short-lived — when the surfer regained consciousness, he could not recall his own name or his address. As a result of the crash, Smith said he suffered a severe concussion and later realized “something just broke” inside of him.

“I couldn’t even function anymore,” he explained at the time. “I had to spend 10 hours a day in my bed in the dark and just kind of figure out what I wanted to do from there.”

After struggling with his mental health despite seeing doctors, Smith told The Independent he decided to try psilocybin mushrooms as part of his “healing process.”

“It took me back to my childhood, that fire inside me as a child,” he explained. “It reminded me that I was a good person and that I was here to do good in this world. It reminded me that I should use my head injury as a guide to healing.”

Michael J. Fox Receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

Michael J. Fox gained worldwide recognition beginning in 1982 on the NBC sitcom Family Ties and continued his rise to fame for the next four decades.

The Back to the Future star was born in Alberta, Canada, in June 1961 and began his acting career at the age of 16 in the Canadian TV series Leo and Me. After making the move to Los Angeles in 1979, Fox landed his breakthrough role in the sitcom Family Ties, which aired from 1982 to 1989. The Stuart Little star’s role of “Young Republican” Alex P. Keaton earned him three Emmy awards in 1986, 1987 and 1989.

“I was still pretty fresh off being an 11th grade dropout,” Fox told PBS in a May 2023 interview. “Literally, in three years, I go from being the kid stuffed in lockers to having a conversation with Steven Spielberg about doing his next movie. Doesn’t happen.”

During his time while filming Family Ties, Fox met his future wife, Tracy Pollan, while on set. The pair tied the knot in 1988 and welcomed four children – son Samuel in 1989, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler in 1995 and daughter Esmé in 2001.

Fox was later diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, news he publicly revealed eight years later. While he retired from acting in 2020, he has continued to be an advocate for Parkinson’s and even launched an eponymous foundation.

Fox was born in Alberta, Canada, in June 1961, however, his family lived in different cities growing up because of his father’s career as a police dispatcher. Due to encouragement from his theater teacher, the Good Wife alum auditioned and starred in the Canadian TV series Leo and Me at the age of 16. Two years later, Fox moved to Los Angeles to further pursue his acting career.

Nearly three years after his move to Los Angeles, Fox made his television debut in the U.S. on the NBC sitcom Family Ties.
“I was a jerk. You just want to slap me,” Fox recalled his behavior on set of Family Ties in his 2023 Still documentary. “You just want to go, ‘Shut up, sit down, have a Diet Coke and relax and sit in the corner.’”

Fox played Marty McFly in Back to the Future and because of its popularity, two more sequels were made. That same year, the Secret of My Success star appeared in Teen Wolf, which became another commercial success.

The Canada native married his Family Ties costar in July 1988 and welcomed son Samuel, twin daughters Aquinnah and Schyler and Esmé in 1989, 1995 and 2001, respectively.
“Tracy gives our family everything that we need,” Fox said during the premiere of Still in March 2023. “Any good in our family, anything good that we do, comes from her.”

While filming Doc Hollywood, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the age of 29.
“I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t know what was coming. So what if I could just have four glasses of wine and maybe a shot?,” the actor said in the 2023 documentary. “I was definitely an alcoholic. But I’ve gone 30 years without having a drink.”

Amid his battle with Parkinson’s, Fox starred in the ABC show Spin City, which won him an Emmy award in 2000. He announced he was leaving the show during its fourth season.

Nearly eight years after his diagnosis, the Boston Legal star came forward about his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
“It was seven or eight years after I had been diagnosed … [and] the paparazzi and stuff, they would stand outside my apartment and heckle at me, like ‘What’s the matter with you?’” Fox recalled in an October 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I said, ‘I can’t be making my neighbors deal with this,’ so I came out, and it was great. It was a great thing.”

The Designated Survivor actor revealed that he was stopping his acting career after issues with his speech and memorizing his lines.
“I thought of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, there’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines anymore,” Fox told Empire magazine in a May 2023 interview. “He just goes back to his dressing room and he’s screaming at himself in the mirror. Just freaking insane. I had this moment where I was looking in the mirror and thought, ‘I cannot remember it anymore. Well, let’s move on.’ It was peaceful.”

Ariana Grande Thanks ‘Friends Botox and Juvederm’ for Rising Star Award

Ariana Grande thanked two special “friends” while accepting her first major award of the year.

“Thank you guys so much,” the 31-year-old Wicked star told the crowd at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival on Friday, January 3, where she was presented with the rising star award by The White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge.

“You don’t know how much it means to me,” Grande continued. “I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words ‘rising star’ again, so I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvederm.”

Grande’s quip was met with laughter from the audience as she added, “I thought I’d be hearing ‘slightly withering star’ or ‘drooping star’ by now, so thank you.”

Ariana Grande Credits Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo for Helping ‘Heal’ Her

In September 2023, Grande revealed to Vogue that she had botox and “a ton” of lip filler through the years, but had stopped using both in 2018.

“Being exposed to so many voices at a young age, and especially when people have things to say about your appearance at a young age, it’s really hard to know what’s worth hearing or not,” she explained at the time. “When you’re 17, you don’t really know that yet.”

In her speech on Friday, Grande also thanked Wicked director and “fearless leader” Jon M. Chu, as well as her costar and “brilliant sister” Cynthia Erivo, who portrayed Elphaba to Grande’s Glinda in the 2024 movie musical. She went on to say that comedy was her first love, even before she became a pop star.

“Being able to play Glinda the Good was not only the honor of my life but it felt like a homecoming,” Grande continued. “For those of you who don’t know, I started out in stand-up comedy. My first professional gig was in our living room in Boca Raton, Fla., [to entertain] my grandparents. I was 4 years old and my mom gave me $5.”

Ariana Grande’s ‘Relationship With Makeup’ Transformed Because of ‘Wicked’

She continued, “I learned early on that laughter was one of our greatest escapes and I remember the infectious impact that it had, not only on the people in my life, but how it fed me in return. And the past 10 years when I was really focused on music I really missed that feeling. So it really does feel like the beginning of a new chapter.”

The Grammy winner has also been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award for her role as Galinda, aka Glinda the Good, in Wicked: Part One.

“In Wicked, Ariana Grande’s portrayal of Glinda elevates her to new heights with a powerful acting performance that beautifully combines her outstanding musical talent, brilliant characterization and impeccable comedic timing,” Palm Springs Film Festival chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said in a statement regarding the singer/actress’s honor.

“Ariana is an iconic global performer, who has seamlessly transitioned to film in her first major starring role, proving herself to be a multifaceted and undeniable talent,” Chandi continued. “This role is certain to be the beginning of the many accolades she will garner throughout her acting career. It is our great honor to recognize Ariana Grande with the Rising Star Award.”

UGA Football Coach Kirby Smart's Dad Dead After Fall Ahead of Sugar Bowl

University of Georgia football coach Kirby Smart’s dad, Sonny Smart, has died. He was 76.

Sonny had suffered a fall in New Orleans, where he had traveled to watch the UGA Bulldogs play Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. (The championship game was postponed from New Year’s Day to Thursday, January 2, after a Texas man deliberately drove a rented truck through a Bourbon Street crowd and killed 14 individuals. The driver was later killed in a police shootout.)

“[Sonny] was hospitalized and underwent hip surgery; unfortunately, complications arose,” a Saturday, January 4, statement released by UGA read, per ESPN. “He fought valiantly but was unable to overcome his injuries. The Smart family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Ochsner hospital and medical staff for the exceptional care provided to Sonny.”

The statement continued, “Additionally, they ask for your continued prayers for those affected by the tragic events that occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The Smart family treasures everyone’s thoughts and prayers and now prays for God’s comfort, strength and guidance.”

NFL Tragedies of 2024: The Saddest and Most Shocking Deaths

Sonny is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their three children: Karl, Kirby and Kendall. Kirby, 49, spent part of New Year’s Day at his father’s bedside before returning to game day obligations. The UGA football team ultimately lost to Notre Dame 23-10.

Sonny was a former football star, previously playing for Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, before becoming a coach for the local Holtville High School. He also coached for Bainbridge High, where son Kirby played safety, and Rabun County High.

Kirby has been candid about their father-son relationship.

“He’s taught me so much just about the way you handle things, the right way, the wrong way,” Kirby previously told reporters in January 2023. “Control the controllables. The moment’s never too big if you’re prepared. And I always watched the way he prepared our teams and our staff in high school.”

Sports Moments That Tugged at Our Heartstrings in 2024

The collegiate coach added at the time, “He was a very wise man, a man of few words. I tried to follow his mantra as a coach. I’ve certainly evolved from going to coach for other people, but a lot of my core beliefs came from the way he ran our programs in high school.”

The college football community has expressed their condolences via social media.

“Marty, the girls and I are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Sonny Smart,” Brian Kemp, the governor of Georgia, wrote via X on Saturday. “An incredible father and husband and a great coach in his own right, he was a constant presence at Georgia football games along with his wife Sharon. Sonny embodied the values and strength that we should all wish to have. We are praying for Sharon, Karl, Kirby, Kendall and all of their loved ones during this difficult time.”

Brianne Howey Teases the 'New Sides' to Ginny and Georgia in Season 3

'Ginny & Georgia' Season 3 Brings 'Entirely New Sides' to the Characters, Star Brianne Howey Says

Get ready, peaches — Ginny & Georgia season 3 will bring an array of twists and turns.

“We see entirely new sides of Ginny and Georgia,” star Brianne Howey exclusively told Us Weekly at the 2025 WWD Style Awards on Friday, January 3. “I feel, like, [it’s] surprising ’cause we’ve already seen so many sides of them, but lo and behold, there’s more.”

Howey, 35, portrays the titular Georgia in the multi-season Netflix drama about a young single mother who moves her family to Wellsbury, Massachusetts after a scandalous past. Ginny & Georgia also stars Antonia Gentry (Georgia’s daughter, Ginny), Diesel La Torraca (Georgia’s son, Austin), Felix Mallard (Felix Baker), Sara Waisglass (Maxine Baker), Scott Porter (Paul Randolph) and Raymond Ablack (Joe).

A third season was renewed in May 2023 with few details confirmed except that the latest batch of episodes will hit the streaming giant later this year.

'Ginny & Georgia' Cast: Who the Stars Have Dated in Real Life

While speaking with Us on Friday, Howey teased just three adjectives to sum up the story lines.

“Oh my gosh: It’s uplifting, heartbreaking and hysterical,” Howey quipped.

Ginny & Georgia season 2 dropped on Netflix in 2023, in which Georgia and Austin finally discovered their mother’s murderous past. By the finale, Georgia is arrested on her and Paul’s wedding day for the murder of fellow Wellsbury resident Cynthia’s husband. (Georgia kills her frenemy’s terminally ill husband after learning Cynthia blocked Austin’s dad Gil’s application to move to Wellsbury.)

“Did you believe it? She’s coming from a good place,” Howey previously told Us in January 2023. “She’s trying to put this man out of his misery and she’s trying to help this woman move on and not feel guilty about it and try to keep this pristine image of Zach’s father for Zach. But yes, that’s exactly what ruins the house of cards.”

Now that filming for season 3 is wrapped, Howey is enjoying both the red carpet glamour at events like the WWD Style Awards and the quiet moments in home life with her 18-month-old daughter and her husband, Matt Ziering. (Howey gave birth in June 2023 but has not publicly shared her daughter’s name.)

“My happy place is with my daughter,” she gushed on Friday before going on to share Ziering’s most romantic moment. “It was maybe a few years ago, but he surprised me with [a] hotel room and flowers and champagne, and you can’t really go wrong [with that].”

Blake Lively Called Intimacy Coordinators 'Critical' Prior to Lawsuit

Blake Lively Said It Was Critical to Have an Intimacy Coordinator for It Ends With Us Before Lawsuit
Blake Lively Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images

Before Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment, retaliation and more, the actress opened up about the vital importance of intimacy coordinators.

“I think it’s critical to have an intimacy coordinator,” Lively, 37, told DigitalSpy in an August 2024 interview, published three months before she filed her lawsuit against Baldoni with the Southern District of New York.

“You coordinate stunts, you coordinate dancing, it is choreography,” she continued. “So it’s to be able to say, ‘This is what happens here, here and here in a stunt,’ and ‘This is what happens here and here in a dance,’ but like ‘Now you guys put your bodies together, and your mouths and whatever’ and just action and cut.”

Lively went on to say that she believes “being choreographed” during intimate scenes is “critical for everyone’s safety.”

Justin Baldoni Claims Blake Lively 'Kicked' Him Out of 'It Ends With Us'

Lively officially sued Baldoni on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Us Weekly previously confirmed, alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, breach of contract, infliction of emotional distress, invasion of privacy and lost wages. In addition to Baldoni, Lively is suing publicists Melissa Natahan and Jennifer Abel, as well as Wayfarer Studios.

Lively also filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, citing similar claims.

“I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted,” Lively said in a statement to Us.

In response, Baldoni filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times on the same day and for its reporting on Lively’s sexual harassment accusations. In the suit, Baldoni accuses the publication of libel and false light invasion of privacy, alleging that the newspaper “cherry-picked” communications and omitted context in order to mislead readers.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's Reported 'It Ends With Us' Drama Explained

The lawsuit also alleges that Lively pursued a “strategic and manipulative” smear campaign against Baldoni, using false “sexual harassment allegations to assert unilateral control over every aspect of the production.”

Baldoni also alleges that Lively never met with an intimacy coordinator while filming It Ends With Us.

“In this vicious smear campaign fully orchestrated by Blake Lively and her team, the New York Times cowered to the wants and whims of two powerful ‘untouchable’ Hollywood elites, disregarding journalistic practices and ethics once befitting of the revered publication by using doctored and manipulated texts and intentionally omitting texts which dispute their chosen PR narrative,” Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, said via a statement to Us on Tuesday, December 31.

“In doing so, they pre-determined the outcome of their story, and aided and abetted their own devastating PR smear campaign designed to revitalize Lively’s self-induced floundering public image and counter the organic groundswell of criticism amongst the online public,” Freedman continued. “The irony is rich.”

Revisiting Late Director Jeff Baena's Film Career and Stars He Worked With

Jeff Baena wrote and directed a slate of indie TV shows and films ahead of his sudden death in January 2025.

“[Directing is] all I ever want to do; it felt really comfortable and fun,” Baena told Seensome in 2014, referring to directorial debut Life After Beth. “I’ve been a writer for 12 years now and it was always a means to an end, I never wanted to be a writer, I wanted to be a director so this was always my intention and it felt right.”

Life After Beth starred Aubrey Plaza, who started dating Baena four years earlier. The couple, who got married in 2020, later collaborated on films Three Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

It’s an amazing experience to work with your partner in this way,” Plaza gushed to MovieFreak in 2017. “I’ve worked with Jeff since his first movie. I’ve seen him evolve, and I’ve seen him grow. It’s a really special dynamic that we have. It’s challenging at times, but it’s also really rewarding to do something together.”

Aubrey Plaza and Late Husband Jeff Baena’s Relationship Timeline

Baena echoed Plaza’s sentiments several years later, telling Reel Talker in 2022 that “she’s awesome.”

“I’d be working with her if she wasn’t my wife, but luckily she is my wife,” Baena quipped. “The opportunity to do something creative [together] where we’re both fulfilled — how rare is that?”

Baena died nearly three years later in January 2025, at the age of 47. Keep scrolling to revisit his star-studded filmography:

‘I Heart Huckabees’

Baena cowrote the 2004 film with David O. Russell, who also served as the director. The movie starred Jude Law, Mark Wahlberg, Jason Schwartzman, Naomi Watts, Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin and Isabelle Huppert.

He wrote and directed Joshy in 2016, working with actors Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally, Nick Kroll, Jenny Slate, Brett Gelman, Lauren Graham and Alison Brie, in addition to Plaza.

“Jeff [came] to the set of Community in our sixth season and asked me to play a small role in his film, Joshy,” Brie recalled of working with Baena during a 2022 interview with Collider. “There was no script for that. All of his films that I’ve been involved with, prior to this one, were fully improvised. So, he came to my dressing [room]. We set a meeting, and he came to meet me. … I knew a lot of the cast members in that movie. Nick Kroll, Jenny Slate and Adam Pally were friends of mine. I just thought, “Yeah, that sounds fun to do.” It was one day. I’m in two scenes in that movie. I thought the story was cool. And then, it just grew from there.”

The next year, Brie and Plaza reunited to play nuns in 2017’s The Little Hours. Brie’s husband, Dave Franco, also starred in the flick, as well as Kate Micucci, Fred Armisen, Jemima Kirke and Nick Offerman.

Brie told Collider in 2022 that Baena pitched The Little Hours on a phone call with her and Franco, who were both excited about the prospect of working on a completely improvised film.

Brie once again led Baena’s Horse Girl, which debuted in 2020. The film also featured Shannon, Goldenite, Stella Chestnut, John Ortiz and Debby Ryan.

Dave and I lived quite close to Jeff and Aubrey. Jeff and I started hiking together pretty regularly, just as buddies, and during these long hikes, we would talk about different ideas,” Brie told Collider two years later. “Eventually, I felt comfortable enough with him to talk to him about my idea for Horse Girl, which we co-wrote and co-produced together. That was such a good experience.”

Baena created and cowrote the eclectic 2021 TV show with episodes starring the likes of Brie, Christina Ricci, Chloe Fineman, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Jake Johnson.

“This project is way up my alley. I just loved just the concept of it,” Plaza told AwardsWatch in 2021. “It almost felt like a new art form for me, like, it’s beyond just overdubbing a movie, it’s creating a new movie out of old stuff, and I don’t know, there’s just something very film noir and nerdish about it. To me, it talked to my film school brain.”

‘Spin Me Round’

Baena cowrote 2022’s Spin Me Round with Brie, who also starred in the romantic comedy alongside Plaza. Other performers included Jake Picking, Lil Rel Howery, Ego Nwodim, Alessandro Nivola and Zach Woods.

“It’s an insane benefit to have the person that you’re collaborating with on all fronts also be on the other side of the camera,” Baena told AV Club in August 2022 of collaborating with the film’s leading lady, Brie. “Because in addition to understanding, obviously, where the script is coming from and what the intention is, they can also set the tone in terms of acting.”

Nicole, 57, accepted the award for her role in Babygirl on Friday, January 3, which was presented to her by Jamie Lee Curtis. In her speech, Kidman thanked Babygirl director Halina Reijn and dedicated the award to her late mother, whom she said she was “still grieving.”

“Thank you for giving me the chance to say, ‘This is for my mom,'” Nicole said in her tearful acceptance speech. “My whole career has been for my mom and my dad, who are not here now. I’m still going to keep working and giving to the world because I love what I do and I love you all, and I’m so grateful for the privilege to be a part of the film community.”

She added, “I’m sorry that I’m crying, I didn’t want to do that. But I feel my mom right now, so this is for you.”

Aubrey Plaza Gave Insight Into Her Marriage 3 Months Before Husband's Death

Aubrey Plaza briefly gushed over her marriage to husband Jeff Baena three months before his sudden and unexpected death.

“I would stay away [from dating actors],” Plaza, 40 quipped during a September 2024 appearance on SiriusXM’s Howard Stern Show.

Plaza married Baena in 2020 after a decade of dating. He died on Friday, January 3, at the age of 47, according to medical examiner records viewed by Us Weekly.

Per the medical examiner’s website, Baena’s case status is listed as “open” with an exam already scheduled. A cause of death has not been revealed nor has Plaza publicly addressed his passing. Us Weekly reached out for comment.

The Agatha All Along actress and Baena first crossed paths in 2011, later tying the knot to mark their 10th dating anniversary.

“A lot of things happened during COVID for me. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled during a December 2021 appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up.”

Aubrey Plaza and Late Husband Jeff Baena’s Relationship Timeline

She added at the time, “We were in the lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially in my house. My husband got really into tie-dying and when I say tie-dying, I mean 50 shirts a day.”

Plaza and Baena wed at home.

“I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature,” she recalled to host Ellen DeGeneres. “Then the man from Alhambra showed up in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase [to perform the ceremony]. … I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But I’m pretty sure it’s legal.”

Plaza was then able to use their newlywed life as inspiration for her character in The White Lotus season 2. (Plaza played Harper, who was married.)

“This character is me,” Plaza quipped to GQ in November 2022. “It’s probably the first project that I’ve ever done that I’m like, whoa, this is really close to home. … I don’t have kids. I’ve been with my husband for 12 years. I relate to being in a relationship that has peaks and valleys, and going through a rough patch and comparing yourself to another couple that seems perfect.”

In addition to their respective solo careers, Plaza and Baena also worked together on the movies Life After Beth, The Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

“She’s awesome. I’d be working with her if she wasn’t my wife, but luckily she is my wife,” Baena told Reel Talker in August 2022. “The opportunity to do something creative [together] where we’re both fulfilled — how rare is that?”

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman to Skip 2025 Golden Globes Amid Justin Baldoni Lawsuit

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Blake Lively will not be in attendance at the 2025 Golden Globes.

Lively, 37, will sit out the annual awards ceremony on Sunday, January 5, amid her ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni. But it’s not just Lively missing the event — her husband Reynolds, 48, and his Deadpool & Wolverine costar Jackman won’t be attending the Golden Globes this year either.

“Ryan and Hugh were not confirmed to attend and the decision has nothing to do with [sic] legal battle,” a source confirmed to Us Weekly.

According to Deadline, Lively, Reynolds and Jackman made their decisions not to attend the awards ceremony on Sunday well before the It Ends With Us legal battle, and their respective absences from the ceremony are not related to the ongoing scandal.

It’s likely there won’t be any mention of It Ends With Us at the awards show this weekend, either. Comedian Nikki Glaser, who has been tapped to host this year’s Golden Globes, has already made it clear that she won’t be making any jokes about the “hot-button” Lively-Baldoni issue on Sunday.

Blake Lively Dropped Out of Hosting ‘SNL’ Premiere Amid Costar Drama

“I think the Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” Glaser, 40, told Yahoo! Entertainment on Thursday, January 2. “I also don’t want to give his name any [weight].”

She added, “I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”

Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, 40, in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and fostering a “hostile work environment” on the set of It Ends With Us, a film adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s novel about domestic violence. (In addition to Baldoni, Lively is also suing publicists Melissa Nathan and Jennifer Abel, as well as Wayfarer Studios.)

The actress’s complaint claimed Baldoni had caused her “severe emotional distress” and had orchestrated an alleged “social manipulation” campaign to damage her reputation.

Blake Lively Allegedly Tried to Ban Justin Baldoni From Movie Premiere

“I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted,” Lively told Us Weekly in a December 21 statement.

Baldoni has denied Lively’s accusations and filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times for libel and false light invasion of privacy, and is reportedly planning a separate lawsuit against Lively as well.

“We plan to release every single text message between the two of them. We want the truth to be out there,” Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman told NBC News on Thursday. “We want the documents to be out there. We want people to make their determination based on receipts.”

Prince William Reacts to Nanny’s Stepson's Death in New Orleans Attack

Prince William expressed his condolences after learning his former nanny’s stepson, Ed Pettifer, was one of the victims in the New Orleans attack on New Year’s Day.

“Catherine and I have been shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ed Pettfer,” William, 42, wrote in a Saturday, January 4, Instagram Story statement, also mentioning wife Princess Kate Middleton. “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Pettifer family and all those innocent people who have been tragically impacted by this horrific attack.”

William signed the note with a “W,” his personal designation based on his first initial.

A 42-year-old Texas man drove a rented truck through a crowd on New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street on Wednesday, January 1. Pettifer, who was 31, was one of at least 14 fatalities. The driver was shot and killed during a shootout with police.

“The entire family is devastated at the tragic news of Ed‘s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew and a friend to so many,” a Saturday statement from Pettifer’s family read, shared with London’s Metropolitan Police. “We will all miss him terribly.”

The statement continued, “Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their family members due to this terrible attack. We request that we can grieve the loss of Ed as a family in private. Thank you.”

Pettifer was the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who previously worked as a nanny for William and his brother, Prince Harry, when they were children. (William and Harry, 40, are the sons of exes King Charles III and the late Princess Diana.)

“[She was] our favorite nanny, to be accurate, though Tiggy couldn’t stand being called that,” Harry recalled in his Spare memoir. “She’d bite the head off anyone who tried. ‘I’m not the nanny, I’m your friend!’ Mummy, sadly, didn’t see it that way. Mummy saw Tiggy not as a nanny, but as a rival. It’s common knowledge that Mummy suspected Tiggy was being groomed as her future replacement. (Did Mummy see Tiggy as her Spare?)”

As noted in the passage, Harry also named his 2023 memoir after the notion that he was brother William’s “spare” in the line of succession. William is the direct heir to father Charles, 75, as the regent of England. Harry immediately followed until William and wife Kate, 42, welcomed their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

While Harry is now the fifth in line for the British throne, he stepped down from his position as a senior working royal in 2020. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle now live in Montecito, California with their two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Harry has not yet publicly addressed Pettifer’s death.
