Rapper ASAP Rocky’s shooting trial just started, and lawyers are already weighing the potential influence his longtime partner Rihanna could have over the proceedings.

On Thursday, January 23, during jury selection and one day before lawyers delivered their opening statements, Deputy District Attorney John Lewin asked one prospective juror — a woman – if she would be able to deliver a guilty verdict to the defendant if Rihanna, 36, was present in court.

“What if Rihanna comes here to court, is it going to be hard for you to look over there and see the defendant’s family and deliver a guilty verdict?” Lewin asked the woman, as reported by the Associated Press.

According to the news outlet, the woman took a long pause before answering “yes.”

Rihanna was not in court on Thursday or Friday, January 24, when Rocky’s trial officially started. The 36-year-old rapper is charged with two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm related to a 2021 shooting incident in Hollywood. Rocky is accused of firing four or five shots at Terell Ephron, a childhood friend, who claims the shots “grazed his knuckles,” per the Associated Press.

Rocky has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers say he committed no crime. If convicted, he faces up to 24 years in prison.

According to the Associated Press, it took both the prosecution and the defense two and a half days to select a set of jurors from a “pool of more than a hundred candidates.” Per the outlet, a podcast editor and actor, as well as a man who has worked at Trader Joe’s for more than 20 years, made the final cut.

While Rihanna — who shares two kids, RZA and Riot Rose, with Rocky — has yet to make an appearance in court in support of her partner, Thomas Zizzo Jr., son of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne, was present on Friday.

The Los Angeles police officer took the stand on day one of the Grammy award-winning rapper’s trial, testifying as one of the first law enforcement officers to arrive on the scene of the alleged 2021 shooting incident. According to TMZ, the officer reportedly “testified about what he saw at the scene when he arrived.”

Rihanna, who started dating Rocky in late 2019, has been relatively silent about her partner’s legal troubles. Still, she has remained by his side. In an April 2024 interview with Interview, she spoke candidly about their relationship.

“We’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve seen him in relationships. He’s seen me in relationships. We’ve seen each other outside of relationships,” she said at the time. “We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives. We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.”

While there was never a conversation about Jonathon Johnson potentially becoming the next Bachelor, he is happy for his good pal Grant Ellis.

“I have no idea [why he was chosen] but I always make the joke it’s ‘cause he’s over 6 foot and I’m 5’11,” Jonathon teased.

“I was surprised. That was something that I haven’t encountered yet as the host in the last four years on any of the franchises,” Jesse, 46, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “Normally, I think, our leads have a little bit more clarity — a lot more clarity — heading into the final day. And I really think that’s how conflicted Grant really was.”

According to Jesse, Grant was so conflicted based on the caliber of his “incredible” group of women.

“They’re phenomenal every year for whoever our lead is [and] making that decision on the final day is always a very, very difficult decision, but I can appreciate some of why Grant was so conflicted. I’ll just say that,” Jesse explained. “But absolutely without giving away too much, that was authentic and it’s real and it’s not an edit.”

Jesse further hinted that Grant seemed “very, very happy with how things ended” on his season.

“I know he’s really excited for everybody to watch this whole thing unfold. Grant’s a very easy guy to root for,” Jesse told Us. “I’m a fan of his and I know he’s a guy that’s been so successful in everything he’s done in his life outside of love [so far]. With Zach [Shallcross] and Joey [Graziadei], we’re kind of running this streak a little bit and I think we have a chance to keep this thing going, fingers crossed.”

Liam Hemsworth enjoyed a rare public outing with his longtime girlfriend Gabriella Brooks at the Australian Open.

The actor, 35, and model, 28, were all smiles as they posed together in matching beige ensembles at the Ralph Lauren Marquee in Melbourne on Sunday, January 26.

Hemsworth looked put together in a caramel-colored ensemble while Brooks rocked a tan jacket over a white blouse and cream shorts, which she paired with a brown belt and heels.

The couple was later spotted in the stands alongside Jackie Chan, looking very invested in the men’s final match between winner Jannick Sinner and opponent Alexander Zverev.

Their outing comes after Brooks celebrated her partner of five years via Instagram on January 13. “Happy Birthday to my sunshine ,” she wrote alongside a carousel of photos of the couple over the years.

Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky revealed that her husband, Kevin Manno, is battling papillary thyroid cancer.

“We found out recently that @kevinmanno has Papillary Thyroid Cancer. Thankfully it’s a very treatable cancer,” Fedotowsky, 40, and Manno, 41, wrote in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, January 26. “He has 2 malignant spots on his right side and it appears it is also in one lymph node, but we won’t know for sure until his surgery.”

Fedotowsky also asked her followers to “share any experiences” that they had with thyroid cancer diagnoses.

“We are specifically curious about stories related to whether or not you or someone you know had their full thyroid or half of it removed with the cancer only on one side,” the caption continued. “If the surgeon gets in there and determines the whole thing has to be removed regardless, we will of course move forward with that. But going into the surgery, he has a choice to be aggressive or leave half if possible.”

They concluded, “Thank you all for the love and support you’ve always shown us. We are grateful .”

Fedotowsky and Manno also uploaded a video further discussing his health scare.

“We always try to be very open and honest,” Manno said in the footage. “We’re open books with our lives. We want to give you guys a quick update with something that’s happening over here in the Manno family, but I’m not stressing about it.”

Manno, a radio DJ, had recently undergone both a biopsy and CT scan, which led to the diagnosis.

“The prognosis is very good,” he added. “It looks good. It’s going to be something I can go in [on] February 10th [and have a] surgery. We’re going to knock it out and it’ll be behind us.”

Fedotowsky, for her part, chimed in to note that Manno is “sometimes too positive” about the procedure.

“That’s where I need my mind,” he quipped in response. “I’m not supposed to be stressed, so I need to be positive.”

Fedotowsky and Manno have been married since 2017 and share two children: Molly, 8, and Riley, 6. While they didn’t share the kids’ reactions to the diagnosis, Fedotowsky revealed that the pair already had appointments with a surgeon about removing Manno’s thyroid.

“We also met with another oncologist to get a second opinion and learn,” Fedotowsky added. “The first thing he said to us was, ‘If you have to get cancer, this is the cancer you want to get.’ Because it’s so treatable. He called it a ‘boring cancer.’ That’s good [and] what you want to hear.”

The Challenge alums Kaycee Clark and Nany González have called it quits more than a year after announcing their engagement.

“After a lot of reflection, Kaycee and I have decided to go our separate ways,” the couple wrote in a joint statement shared to Instagram Stories on Wednesday, January 25.

“This definitely wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s what’s best for the both of us,” they wrote.

It continued: “Thank you to everyone who supported us along the way — we’re both moving forward with love and kindness in our hearts & we ask that you respect our need for privacy at this time.”

Clark, 37, and González, 36, met while filming season 35 of The Challenge: Total Madness in 2019. The pair weren’t linked romantically until two years later, when they started posting photos with one another on Instagram.

During an interview with Us Weekly in August 2022, Clark and González revealed they were “super excited” about their future and said they had discussed the possibility of marriage and kids.

“We have talked about it a lot. The next step, obviously, would be marriage,” González told Us at the time.

“And then, of course, after that would be children and that, obviously, would, you know, come with IVF and all of that. So that’s definitely something that we’re going to look into eventually and we’re super excited about just our future together,” she added.

The former couple announced their engagement in a video posted to Instagram on September 17, 2023.

“Zach got to see him before me while he held my leg and watched him come out,” she exclusively told Us Weekly at the time. “But when he was put on my chest and we both got to see him, it was amazing. We made this adorable little life. It’s truly the best feeling ever. We haven’t put him down once yet; we are completely obsessed.”

Compono added, “We are looking forward to bringing Anthony home and just having fun being parents. Zach is super hands-on and I can honestly say I haven’t changed one diaper yet. He continues to impress me every day, and you can easily see that being a dad came so naturally for him.”

Compono and Nichols welcomed their second child, daughter Liliana, in December 2022. Carmella followed in February 2024.

“The greatest gift we ever gave you was each other,” Compono gushed via Instagram in November 2024, sharing footage of the three siblings.

The Challenge’s Most Memorable (and Messiest!) Relationships

While the reality TV alums have their hands full with almost four kids, they might not be done expanding their brood. In 2020, Compono ruled out another Challenge stint because of their family plans.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans have watched the cast change on and off screen before the series even debuted.

Sutton Foster was all smiles as she supported boyfriend Hugh Jackman at opening night of his Radio City Music Hall Show From New York, With Love.

Foster, 49, attended the first night of Jackman’s concert on Friday, January 24, in a black sequined dress and matching coat — as seen in photos obtained by People. The Broadway icon was joined at the show by Jackman’s pals: Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds, who also made a surprise appearance in the crowd for an impromptu “Hugh & A” session.

Reynolds, 48, raved about Jackman, 56, telling the crowd, “I wanted to actually just say, I love this man, I care about this man. He is genuinely the best human being I know. And I have 4 children!”

He added that Jackman was “my gotcha for life,” even though, Reynolds claimed, “I’m his second-best friend.”

Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman’s Relationship Timeline

Perhaps his first best friend is Foster, who has also praised Jackman in the past after the duo starred together in Broadway’s revival of The Music Man in 2022, portraying Professor Harold Hill and Marian Paroo, respectively.

“He’s one of the greatest guys ever, an incredible costar,” she told People last year. “And yeah, I think everyone already knows that, though.”

Sources previously told Us Weekly that Foster and Jackman’s friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship during their The Music Man run — and while they were still married to other people. Jackman and his wife of 27 years, Deborra-lee Furness, announced their split in September 2023, while; Foster filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin in October 2024 after 10 years of marriage.

“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” a source close to Foster told Us in November 2024. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”

According to the source, Jackman and Foster “are really happy now.”

The pair were spotted kissing inside a car at an In-N-Out restaurant in the San Fernando Valley earlier this month, and were also photographed out on a date night in Santa Monica. Now, the duo is seemingly back at their home base on the East Coast as Jackman is set to perform seven more weekends at Radio City in 2025 and Foster will appear in Trisha Paytas’ Big Broadway Dream one-night-only show at the St. James Theatre on Monday, February 3, alongside the likes of Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler.

No word yet on if Jackman will support his latest love at the event, but he did cheer Foster on during a performance of Once Upon a Mattress in Los Angeles on January 4.

In 2022, Foster told Vogue that Jackman had become one of her closest friends thanks to The Music Man — and noted that they even had family get-togethers. (Jackman and Furness, 69, adopted son Oscar, 24, in 2000 and daughter Ava, 19, in 2005; Foster and Griffin are parents to Emily, 7, who they adopted in 2017.)

“You usually go into these things thinking, ‘Well, I hope we get along,’ ” she explained, “but we just spent Memorial Day with our families.”

Being asked to host or perform on an episode of Saturday Night Live is a big deal in and of itself — but even more so when a star gets the chance to do both in one night.

Harry Styles joined the impressive club in November 2019, making fans laugh in several sketches before crooning his hit songs “Lights Up” and “Watermelon Sugar” for the Studio 8H crowd.

“It is so great to be here hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time. I’m so excited to be here as more than just a musical guest, [it] feels amazing,” Styles — who previously performed on the NBC show four times — gushed in his monologue. “It feels like when you find out someone likes you as more than just a friend. Saturday Night Live and I have taken things to the next level and just like all my serious relationships, we’re all gonna spend one incredible night together, and then we’ll never see each other again.”

While Styles insisted that music was his No. 1 priority, he still had room for busting out his comedy chops, spending time with loved ones and having great hair. “I love being here at SNL. It has so much history,” Styles gushed.

“A Complete Unknown just got eight Academy Award nominations — and I’m truly overjoyed,” Chalamet, 29, said during the Saturday, January 25, show. “I was literally crying in my dressing room here when I found out. The entire creative team worked extremely hard to bring to life the brilliant artist Bob Dylan, a man whose music and career has become a guiding light to me.”

Chalamet was recently honored with a 2025 Golden Globe nomination for the role, which he ultimately lost to Adrien Brody. Earlier this week, he scored a 2025 Oscars nomination for the same performance.

“It’s an enormous honor going to these award shows. It’s such a great experience, but I just keep losing,” he lamented in his monologue. “Each time it gets harder to pretend it doesn’t sting.”

According to Chalamet, he ended up licking his post-Golden Globes wounds via “another lonely night with my Dune popcorn bucket.” (The actor also starred in the Dune films, which AMC promoted by releasing a themed popcorn container that many fans believed appeared sexual.)

“The most embarrassing part is I’ve got this sad, little speech in my pocket for four years that I’ve never gotten a chance to read,” Chalamet said. “I was thinking, maybe tonight, I could read it for everyone here.”

As Chalamet prepared to use the SNL stage as a would-be award show to finally deliver his speech,  longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson took over the moment.

“Thank you, thank you,” Thompson, 46, quipped, holding a fake trophy. “We did it! Thank you so much. I didn’t expect this. To my fellow nominees, you did beautiful work this year. Anyway, I love Bob Dylan. This is for you, Bob. We got a great show for y’all.”

Chalamet then pretended to sulk, even lamenting that Thompson the iconic SNL catchphrase.

“Come on, Kenan, can I do that part? I’m never here,” Chalament pleaded. “I just wanted to say that I’m really excited for tonight. You might not know the Bob Dylan songs I’m performing, but they’re my personal favorites. I’m so grateful that Saturday Night Live is still doing weird stuff like this 50 years in. They’re either really nice for letting me do this or incredibly mean. I sincerely can’t tell. We’ll find out.”

Later in the episode, Chalamet performed “Tomorrow Is a Long Time” and “Outlaw Blues/Three Angels.” His performances were introduced by former SNL star Adam Sandler, who kept making jokes about mispronouncing Chalamet’s last name.

So, what is it that’s making so many famous names opt not to follow in their parents’ footsteps? Obviously, the enormous wealth and success of their elders has empowered them to take risks — if those jobs don’t work out, they’re probably not going to be on the breadline — but ultimately they’re rejecting the glamorous world they grew up in. While they might have enjoyed many of the perks of fame, like living in incredible houses and traveling the world from a young age, they’ve also witnessed the pitfalls firsthand, too: the lack of privacy, the pressure and the shallowness of life in Hollywood.

Trace Cyrus has another public message for his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, amid alleged back-and-forth drama surrounding the singer’s health.

“Dad, my message was beyond loving. I could have been extremely honest about a lot more, but I don’t want to put your business out there like that,” Trace, 35, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, January 25. “But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace. Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment, I can assure you.”

Trace continued, “You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you, but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not. Get help.”

Billy Ray, 63, has not publicly responded to Trace’s accusations and it is not clear what type of alleged “legal action” the Grammy winner appeared to be considering against his son. Us Weekly has reached out for comment.

Trace, for his part, doubled down on his stance and further claimed that he learned of the apparent legal battle through an unnamed “family member.”

“For all of you wondering, no, I still haven’t heard from my dad,” Trace claimed via his Instagram Stories on Saturday. “He did contact a family member to let me know he’s taking legal action against me for encouraging him to get help.”

The former Metro Station frontman added, “Dad, I live 30 minutes away from you. You could’ve just come and talked to me like a man.”

According to Trace, the “last good day” he had with Billy Ray was during a Father’s Day visit in 2022.

Braison, 30, later claimed that Billy Ray was both “healthy” and “happy.”

“I’ve spent the last year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” Braison wrote via his Instagram Stories on Friday, January 24. “After he spent a week in the hospital in the fall, I’m grateful that my dad is happy, healthy and ready to make this record.”

Hours earlier, Braison revealed that he would be producing his dad’s next album.

“It’s a rare opportunity to make something this special and tell my dad’s story through music,” Braison added on Friday. “Can’t wait to finally share it.”

In response to Braison’s claims, Trace appeared to insinuate that neither his sibling nor his dad were doing well.

“Birds of a feather, flock together,” Trace alluded on his Instagram Stories. “This is what healthy looks like. Braison, I can help you too. Damn, man up boys.”

Braison later told People on Saturday that he doesn’t “have any bad feelings toward anyone in my family,” referring to the apparent sibling squabble.

Tim Allen is proud of how his Shifting Gears character differs from his past sitcom roles — starting with not being a typical “man’s man.”

“He’s more like me. I’m more of an artist. I was a design student and a philosopher and my standup comedy is really about messing with people in a good way,” Allen, 71, exclusively told Us Weekly. “I came from a huge family run by women. So my perspective is very different about men. I don’t think we run things. So I want this to be that guy. He’s not a ‘man’s man’ in that term, and he wasn’t trying to be anything but what he does.”

The actor noted that Matt is “not like the other guys” he brought to life.

“This is a new character and it’s much closer to [who I am]. I’ve been through grief in my life with losing my father,” he shared. “I’ve been blessed to be a comedian and so that’s who this [character] is. If I did it again, I wanted to get as much closer to the [man] that I am.”

What to Know About Tim Allen and Kat Dennings' ABC Sitcom 'Shifting Gears'

Before Matt, Allen was known for playing Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on the ABC sitcom Home Improvement, which ran from 1991 to 1999. He moved on to Last Man Standing, where he played Mike for nine seasons on ABC. Shifting Gears, meanwhile, follows widowed father Matt (Allen) and his estranged daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), as they find themselves living together and working to repair their relationship.

“From the very beginning, [the creative team has said] that we’ve never seen Tim Allen in a sitcom with a romantic interest. And I said, ‘Well, I’ve just lost my wife so I don’t see it.’ So I love where we are,” Allen told Us. “I said, ‘If it happens over time and happens organically with two people that do not get along then it is OK. I just am really cautious about this. I just want it to happen where it’s organic and proper.”

In addition to Allen and Dennings, 38, Shifting Gears also stars Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis. Jenna Elfman, meanwhile, has been cast in a recurring role as spirited choreographer Eve Drake, who owns a dance studio across from the classic car restoration shop run by Allen’s character.

Us exclusively revealed earlier this month that Shifting Gears is hosting a reunion between Allen and Nancy Travis. The duo previously shared the screen on Last Man Standing, where Travis, 63, played Allen’s onscreen wife.

“The Nancy Travis story is really, really clever,” Allen teased before reflecting on his offscreen friendship with Travis. “Nancy Travis once told me [something] after I called her during Last Man Standing. I said, ‘Have you talked to the girls [who play our daughters] over the summer?’ Then there’s this long pause and she goes, ‘Tim, these aren’t our daughters and I’m not actually your wife.'”

He quipped: “She was so wonderful about it because sometimes when they were having trouble on the show, I’d go, ‘How do you think they feel?’ And she would respond, ‘Tim, they’re actors. We just read [what is on the page but] she’s not really that sad.'”

While Allen has enjoyed shaping his character on Shifting Gears, he admitted he wasn’t initially sure about joining the show.

“It was a complicated decision. I was doing Disney+’s Santa Claus series at the time and I said, ‘I really can’t think about this now,'” he continued. “Do I want to do linear TV? I was so depressed at how streaming has hurt television. So if I did it, I want to elevate it.”

It was his sitcom past that eventually caused Allen to reconsider. “I’ve done Mike Baxter [on Last Man Standing] and Tim Taylor [on Home Improvement],” he noted. “So if I do this again, I pitched three things: I want a guy that lost his wife recently, so he’s dealing with grief; I want a guy with the family that doesn’t get along; And then he has a custom car shop.”

Shifting Gears airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.

The mother of the late musician Jeff Buckley, who drowned in the Wolf River in May 1997, had a good reason to turn down Brad Pitt’s request to play the singer-songwriter in a biopic years ago.

“We’re going to dye your hair, put brown contact lenses on those baby blues, and you’re going to open your mouth and Jeff’s voice is going to come out?” a skeptical Mary Guibert told Variety of the star in an interview published on Saturday, January 25.

Despite the fact that Pitt invited Guibert to his wedding to ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, Guibert wouldn’t budge. The pair kept speaking about the possibility of a film about Buckley’s life, and with the help of director Amy Berg, eventually landed on the best way to pay tribute to the late musician: a documentary.

“Once I started listening to his voicemail messages and his DAP player and demos and reading his journals, I just couldn’t imagine it being anything but a documentary,” Berg explained to the outlet. “And I just didn’t know how you could kind of replicate Jeff in that scripted sense.”

The result is the documentary It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Friday, January 24.

The son of Guibert and musician Tim Buckley, who left when his son was six months old and later died of a drug overdose at age 28, the younger Buckley signed a three-album deal with Columbia Records in 1992 for almost $1 million. He released his only record, Grace, in 1994 but struggled to handle the overwhelming praise from fans and musicians he admired, like his idol Bob Dylan.

His death three years later was, as Variety put it, “shrouded in mystery.” Rolling Stone published an investigation into what went wrong that night but failed to include Buckley’s autopsy results, something that Berg believes “contributed to the legacy that Jeff probably overdosed.” Instead, the singer drowned due to the massive river’s strong undertow.

“One of the great things about Jeff Buckley is you discover him when you’re meant to discover him,” Berg also said of the singer, who is still perhaps best known for his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

“He has definitely made a big impact on TikTok, where I was surprised to see that he has more followers on the Jeff Buckley hashtag than even Bob Dylan,” she continued. “He’s definitely having another moment in pop culture history.”

Dave Franco is responding to the people comparing him to Luigi Mangione.

Franco, 39, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, January 25, where he was asked if anyone had told him about the comparisons people have made between the actor and Mangione’s likenesses. Before Franco could answer, his partner Alison Brie said, “Anyone? Do you mean everyone?”

Franco told the outlet, “I have never received more texts in my life about anything. Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it.”

Much of the comparisons took place on social media, with people even suggesting Franco should play Mangione in a movie. “I don’t think there have been any official offers,” Brie, 42, jokingly replied. Franco added, “No, no official offers.”

Mangione, 26, is the man suspected of shooting and killing CEO of UnitedHealthcare Brian Thompson in New York City on December 4, 2024. After a five-day search, Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with murder on December 9. He was found with a ghost gun similar to the one believed to be used in Thompson’s murder, as well as a handwritten manifesto criticizing the healthcare industry. Mangione had undergone back surgery in recent years.

Photos of Mangione went viral following his arrest, with a number of celebrities commenting on his looks. Stephen Colbert addressed the internet’s interest in Mangione during a December 2024 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

“This story started tragic, but then it very quickly [became] weird, because when authorities initially released security photos of the suspect, the internet reaction was swift and horny,” Colbert said. “You know [the] guy’s Italian because you could grate parmesan on those abs.”

While a movie adaptation of the event has not been announced, a documentary is already in the works from filmmaker Stephen Robert Morse, which will examine the fatal shooting of Thompson and its aftermath.

Morse, a two-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker, noted that he expects “the documentary will be memed,” adding that he hoped to “foster a deeper understanding” of the case through the varying perspectives of everyone involved, including Mangione.
