Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans can add one more honor to his already illustrious resume — his own holiday. 

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that Jan. 10, 2025, is Mike Evans Day.

"Florida celebrates Mike Evans for his profound dedication to the sport of football, making countless memories for fans across the Sunshine State and across the country," DeSantis said in a statement.

"Mike Evans was named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for the fourth time in his career due to his unyielding commitment to giving back to the Tampa Bay community and improving the lives of countless others through his Mike Evans Family Foundation."

DeSantis also listed the many accomplishments Evans has achieved on the field. 

"Evans’ career includes 168 games played, over 830 receptions for a total of over 12,684 yards and 105 career receiving touchdowns," a statement said.

"Evans’ record of accomplishment has included selection to the Pro Bowl five times and inclusion as a second-team All-Pro in 2016 and 2023."

The Florida governor also noted how Evans accomplished his eleventh consecutive 1,000 yard season, which he achieved in the waning moments of the Bucs' win Sunday. 

With Evans’ eleventh consecutive 1,000-yard season, he tied the legendary Jerry Rice’s all-time record. Evans has never finished a season with fewer than 1,000 yards. 

Evans was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers and became an immediate star.

While Evans may be happy about getting his own day, he has a playoff matchup to think about. 

Evans’ Bucs are playing the Washington Commanders at home at 8 p.m. ET Sunday in the wild-card round.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has cleared concussion protocol. 

His first game back from concussion, ever, will be a Wild Card playoff game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. 

Hurts told reporters on Friday that he doesn't remember what happened in a moment after he suffered the concussion. 

"It's so far long ago, I don't really remember," Hurts said, when asked "What happened in the moment?" when he tried to get back on the field after suffering the concussion. The incident came in the first half against the Washington Commanders in Week 16. 

Hurts says he has never come back from a concussion before, and opened up on how the experience has disrupted his regular routine. 

"Been out of routine, you go through a routine everyday, and being out of that is challenging, I'm obviously dealing with different symptoms, ain't fun either," Hurts said.

Hurts credited his faith for making it through the experience. 

"I have faith, everything's fine," Hurts said. 

Hurts is the latest quarterback to suffer a brain injury in a scary football season for the issue. 

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion – the third of his NFL career – in an early-season tilt with the Buffalo Bills, on a nationally televised game. Tagovailoa had previously suffered multiple concussions within the span of just weeks in the 2022 season. The third of his career sparked national controversy, as some former players and media pundits called on him to retire.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a concussion when he was the victim of an illegal hit by Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair during a game in early December. The hit ended Lawrence's season, as Al-Shaair was suspended for three games and heavily criticized by the public and even an NFL executive. 

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave suffered a concussion after being hit by Panthers safety Xavier Woods in Week 9 and had to be carted off the field. A week later, Falcons linebacker JD Bertrand suffered one in Week 10. 

Alabama A&M University football player Medrick Burnett Jr. died after sustaining a serious head injury in a game in late November. 

At the high school and youth levels, multiple teenage players died in 2024 from brain injuries. 

In Alabama, Morgan Academy junior quarterback Caden Tellier received an injury to the head during the third quarter of his team's 30-22 win against Southern Academy in Selma, Alabama, in late August.

Just days after that, a 13-year-old in West Virginia died after suffering a head injury at a middle school football practice. Eighth-grader Cohen Craddock, who played defensive line for Madison Middle School in Madison, suffered severe brain bleeding and swelling after making a tackle.

Los Angeles Rams receiver Demarcus Robinson has been charged with drunken driving since a November arrest. The news comes just days ahead of the team’s playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings Monday night.

The Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney confirmed to TMZ Sports that Robinson was recently charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol since his arrest Nov. 25. 

Officers with the California Highway Patrol saw Robinson, 30, driving a white Dodge sedan that was "traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour" just a few miles from the Rams’ training complex in Woodland Hills at around 5:10 a.m., according to a news release.

During the traffic stop, law enforcement officials "observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment." The veteran wideout was then arrested on suspicion of DUI, and he was "cited and released to a responsible party." 

The arrest came just hours after the Rams' 37-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at home.

Robinson apologized after the news broke back in November.

"I don’t want to bring that type of light, or any type of negative energy, toward the team," he said. "Things like that are not natural for me, in my nature, stuff I usually do."

Rams coach Sean McVay said at the time Robinson made a "bad decision," but added, "I don’t think that makes him a bad person."

He was not suspended by the team after his arrest. 

According to TMZ Sports, Robinson is due back in court in February. 

The Rams are scheduled to travel to Arizona Friday ahead of Monday’s game, which was relocated to State Farm Stadium due to multiple wildfires in Southern California.

After briefly being hailed as heroes, the New York Yankees fans who pried a ball out of Mookie Betts' glove after grabbing his wrists won't see their team, or any other, for a long time.

Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen were reportedly banned from all MLB stadiums indefinitely because of the incident.

During the bottom of the first inning in Game 4 of the World Series, with the Yanks trailing three games to none, Gleyber Torres hit a pop fly down the right field line that headed toward the stands. Betts leaped for the ball and made the catch, but he was apparently in a danger zone.

A Yankee fan in the front row tried to rip Betts' glove off of his hand and take the ball out, and another fan held Betts' wrists as the ball eventually came out.

Fans were escorted out of the stadium but were initially allowed to return the following night before the team reversed course and donated the tickets to a child with cancer and his family.

The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder didn't speak much about the ordeal after Game 4, but after Game 5, he let it all out.

"That was wild, man. That was really wild. I’ve never experienced anything like that. I was telling my wife that was like the second time in my life I’ve ever wanted to fight someone," Betts told FOX after he won his third World Series title. "I get it, man. I get it. I don’t know if he was trying to get the ball, don’t know what he was really trying to do. But he had to do what he had to do, and it is what it is."

Capobianco defended his actions, saying it was to help the Yankees.

"We always joke about the ball in our area," Capobianco told ESPN. "We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to D up."

The fans were in the seats of a friend who has been a season ticket holder since 1990. That fan is permitted to keep the season tickets.

Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress, blasted Republicans for focusing on keeping transgender athletes out of girls and women's sports.

Delaware, the state where McBride won election to serve as the representative of its at-large district, does not have laws restricting trans athletes from participating in sports that do not align with their gender at birth.

"I've had conversations with colleagues about many of the bills that are coming before us and certainly have heard from some colleagues who, like me, are mystified that this is a priority for a Republican conference that is entering a Republican trifecta, that this is an issue that they prioritize," she told The Independent recently. 

"And it defies understanding, except for the fact that it's a pretty obvious part of a politics of misdirection and distraction."

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., reintroduced a measure earlier this week to prevent biological male participation in women's and girls sports in the Republican-led Senate. With the approval of leadership, it's expected to get a floor vote. 

The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act has been a years-long crusade for the Alabama Republican, who originally introduced it in 2023.

The measure would maintain that Title IX treats gender as "recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth" and does not adjust it to apply to gender identity. 

Twenty-eight states have limitations on trans athletes participating in sports that align with their gender identity.

Since McBride's election, there has been a battle on Capitol Hill about whether McBride should be allowed to use women's restrooms.

Tuberville's legislation would ban federal funding from going to athletic programs that allow biological men to participate in women's and girls sports.  

President-elect Trump has said he would "ban" transgender athletes born male from participating in girls and women's sports.

President Biden recently dropped potential protections for transgender athletes.

"President Trump ran on the issue of saving women’s sports and won in a landslide," Tuberville, a former college football coach, said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "Seventy percent of Americans agree — men don’t belong in women’s sports or locker rooms. I have said many times that I think Title IX is one of the best things to come out of Washington. But in the last few years, it has been destroyed.

"While I’m glad that the Biden administration ultimately rescinded the proposed rule, Congress has to ensure this never happens again. I am welcoming my first granddaughter this spring and won’t stop fighting until her rights to fairly compete are protected. I hope every one of my colleagues will join me in standing up for our daughters, nieces and granddaughters by voting for this critical bill."

Carson Beck's time in the transfer portal didn't last long.

The former Georgia quarterback entered the portal Thursday, roughly a month after injuring his elbow in the SEC title game.

Backup Gunner Stockton stepped up, but the Bulldogs fell in the quarterfinals to Notre Dame.

But now Beck is already committed to his next stop, and he's soon to be a Hurricane.

"Go Canes," he wrote in an Instagram post, which featured a graphic of him in a Miami uniform and the words "Committed" and "305 Bound."

Beck's girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, and her twin sister, Haley, star for Miami's women's basketball team. Haley is dating Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson.

The Cavinders initially said they were skipping their final year of eligibility, with Hanna completing her playing career and Haley saying she would play this season at TCU. However, they both returned to the Canes.

Beck originally declared for the NFL Draft, then entered the transfer portal this week.

Miamia is losing FBS touchdown leader Cam Ward to the NFL Draft, and Ward is in the running to be the top selection of the draft.

Beck spent five seasons at Georgia, the last two as the Bulldogs' primary starter. He has completed 68% of his passes for 7,912 yards, 58 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his college career. He appeared in 39 games for Georgia, 27 of them in the last two seasons.

He now could follow a similar path as Ward, who considered entering the 2024 NFL Draft before deciding to join Miami. Ward rewrote the Miami record book this season, completing 305 passes for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns, all new Miami single-season records.
