Us Explains Tom Cruise’s Viral Popcorn Meme
Tom Cruise recently set the internet ablaze not for his epic stunt skills but because of his affinity for popcorn.
Cruise got the internet’s attention when he noticed a fan in the front row for a screening of his new movie, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, was tragically out of the beloved movie snack.
“You ate all your popcorn already!” Cruise chided the moviegoer before encouraging them to “go get some more.”
After that clip made waves online, another fan took to social media to weigh in on Cruise’s obsession with popcorn.
Tom Cruise Plans to Make Movies Into His 100s: 'I Will Never Stop'
“To add onto the Tom/popcorn lore: I need y’all to realize THIS is how he eats popcorn,” the social media user captioned a video of Cruise enthusiastically eating popcorn during a 2018 screening of Mission: Impossible — Fallout.
While hanging out on the side of the theater, Cruise went to town on a bucket of popcorn, shoving pieces into his mouth and occasionally dropping some to the floor. After the clip resurfaced, many fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on how Cruise consumes his go-to snack.
In addition to the discourse, more instances of Cruise and popcorn emerged online, including a 2023 promotional video for Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.
“I love my popcorn. Movies. Popcorn,” Cruise said as he ate from a large bucket of the snack on a leather sofa. “Four cities. Four screenings. We had so much fun at the first fan screenings for Mission: Impossible! Thank you to everyone who came out.”
Keep scrolling as Us explains why Cruise’s love for popcorn took the internet by storm:
The Key Players

Cruise attended a fan screening for his new movie Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Writer Todd Spence shared a clip online of Cruise chatting with an unnamed fan about popcorn. Another fan, who goes by the username @seifwtf, added more to the popcorn lore online.
The Gist
While at the May 2025 screening at BFI IMAX in London, an unnamed fan was in the audience with an empty bucket of popcorn. Before taking the stage, Cruise saw the fan in the audience and pointed out he needed to get some more popcorn before the movie started.
After that interaction got shared online, @seifwtf shared a throwback clip of Cruise chowing down on popcorn during a screening of Mission: Impossible — Fallout in 2018.
Why It’s a Big Deal
Spence’s post quickly went viral, and other instances of Cruise eating popcorn resurfaced, causing more fanfare. During a later appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Cruise was asked by Darius Butler whether he really eats popcorn that way. Cruise owned his love for the ultimate movie snack.
“Man, I’m eating popcorn,” Cruise said as he laughed. “They know when I’m going to these movies that I’m watching, I’m eating popcorn.”
What People Are Saying

The clip took the internet by storm, and fans didn’t hold back their thoughts by providing hysterical commentary.
“This is how my dad eats popcorn,” one user commented, while another added, “Tom Cruise eating popcorn like he an uncle with a handful of peanuts.”
Butler, for his part, also shared his reaction to Cruise himself.
“I’ve never seen anyone eat popcorn [like] this,” Butler said to the actor. “Are you actually eating popcorn or are you full of s*** right here, TC? I’ve got to know.”
Other fans have pointed out that Cruise’s love of popcorn is just one manifestation of his unshakeable love for the experience of watching movies in a theater. The popcorn thing is a joke, but it’s also proof that no one in Hollywood is as happy making movies and watching them as he is. As the man himself told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.”
What We’re Saying
Cruise clearly loves popcorn just as much as he loves doing his own stunts.
What’s Next
Cruise will most likely continue to enjoy his favorite movie snack. Who knows — maybe a popcorn-themed partnership could be in his future!

Machine Gun Kelly Shares Rare Glimpse Inside Home as Infant Daughter Sleeps
Machine Gun Kelly gave a rare glimpse into his life as he coparents his two-month-old daughter with ex Megan Fox.
MGK (real name Colson Baker) shared an Instagram video on Friday, May 23, of himself reacting to discovering that he is on Spotify’s New Music Friday cover. In the video, the musician, 35, is seated in a kitchen and can be seen jumping for joy when he opens his Spotify app.
He then excitedly FaceTimes his 15-year-old daughter, Casie, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Emma Cannon. (Fox, for her part, also shares sons Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8, with ex Brian Austin Green.)
“You’re sister’s asleep so I can’t scream but I want to scream so loud,” he tells her.
Machine Gun Kelly 'Scored' the Birth of 1st Baby With Megan Fox
Though Kelly did not confirm he was in Fox’s kitchen, the rapper has been staying with his ex-fiancée several nights a week to help out with their baby, who lives full-time with the Transformers actress. Eagle-eyed commenters noted what appeared to be a breast pump in the background of the clip and a few claim they were able to hear Fox’s laugh off camera.

The kitchen itself was busy, with a cluttered countertop and well-stocked pantry slightly ajar behind MGK. He was seated at a round table and a staircase was visible through the doorway to his left.
While Fox has been impressed with how Kelly has supported her with the baby, a source exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month that the two are not about to rekindle their relationship.
“Megan thinks MGK has stepped up and is being a good dad but doesn’t think they have a future together romantically,” the insider said. “Megan is in heaven with her baby girl and is really focused on being a mom right now.”
Megan Fox 'Feels Renewed and Refreshed' After Welcoming Baby With MGK
MGK gave fans a peek at the pair’s daughter on Thursday, May 22, via an Instagram carousel that he captioned, “Stop what you’re doing these pictures are v important.”
In one of the photos, he had the baby strapped to his chest in a baby carrier. The baby was visible mostly in a car’s reflection and her face is hidden.
The photo came one day after Fox revealed via Instagram that her pregnancy was “unplanned.” She shared the revelation in a video via her Instagram Stories that teased her cameo on the new Hulu comedy Overcompensating.
“38 years old six weeks pregnant (unplanned but a happy surprise),” she captioned the video. “Please stop listening to the patriarchy. Women are eternal light beings.”
She added, “We do not have an expiration date. Don’t let them rob you of your power.”

Katie Couric Reacts to Death of Sheinelle Jones' Husband, Uche Ojeh
Katie Couric is sending her love to a member of her Today show family.
The former coanchor of the NBC morning show took to Instagram on Friday, May 23, to pay tribute to Sheinelle Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, after his unexpected death at age 45. “Sending so much love, support and sympathy to @sheinelle_o following the loss of her beloved husband Uche after a valiant struggle with glioblastoma,” she wrote alongside a photo of the couple.
Couric, 68, continued, “My heart is breaking for her and their three children. Please hold them in your hearts. Love you Sheinelle .”
Couric left her role as Today’s coanchor in 2006, eight years before Jones, 47, joined the series as a Weekend Today cohost. Jones has served as a cohost of the show’s third hour alongside Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer since 2019.
Stars Rally Around Sheinelle Jones After Death of Husband Uche Ojeh
Jones has been absent from Today since December 2024. In January, she clarified via Instagram that she was “taking time to deal with a family health matter.” During Friday’s Today broadcast, Savannah Guthrie broke the news that Ojeh had died after a private battle with the brain cancer glioblastoma.

“There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him,” Guthrie, 53, tearfully announced.
The show aired a video package revisiting the couple’s biggest moments, from falling in love as students at Northwestern University to their 2007 wedding to becoming parents to their three kids — son Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12.

“We just want to say Sheinelle, Kayin, little Uche and Clara, the Ojeh family, we are with you. We love you,” Guthrie added. “You are our family, and we are just sending all of our love to you right now.”
Jones broke her silence on Ojeh’s death by sharing her colleagues’ on-air tributes via Instagram. “Thank you, for all of your love and support ,” she wrote alongside the clip on Friday.
Couric went through a similar experience as Jones when she lost her first husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer at age 42 in 1998. The spouses, who wed in 1989, shared daughters Ellie, 33, and Carrie, 29. She found new love with her husband, John Molner, whom she wed in 2014.
'Today' Hosts Get Emotional Over Sheinelle Jones' Husband’s Death
Couric became a grandmother in March 2024 with the birth of Ellie and her husband Mark Dobrosky’s son, John. Her grandson was named after Jay, whose full name was John Paul Monahan.
Earlier this year, Couric exclusively told Us Weekly that her husband’s legacy lives on through their kids and baby John. “Now every time I see Baby Jay, I think of my Jay and Ellie and Carrie’s Jay,” she shared in March while promoting the Cologuard Classic by Exact Sciences golf tournament to help raise colon cancer awareness.
“I always think of how proud he would be of them,” she added. “So, we think about him a lot.”
