Being a Real Housewife can be messy, including on camera screaming matches, legal woes and event arrests. However, there are only a few franchise stars who have actually gone to jail for their scandals.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah began a six and a half-year prison sentence in February 2023 after pleading guilty to her role in a telemarketing scheme that defrauded hundreds of victims.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa Giuidce, meanwhile, spent 11 months in jail after being involved in a federal fraud scheme. (Her now ex-husband Joe Giudice also served time for the crime, 41 months in prison.)

In February 2025, The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Karen Huger was sentenced to one year in jail following a 2024 DUI arrest.

Scroll down to see which Real Housewives women have been behind bars:

Teresa and her then-husband, Joe, pleaded guilty in 2014 to 41 counts of fraud, including mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud. She served 11 months in prison for her involvement after being sentenced to 15 months. Joe, meanwhile, was sentenced to 41 months in jail. (Joe also admitted that he did not pay approximately $200,000 in taxes.)

After Joe completed his sentence, he was taken into ICE custody in March 2019 and was deported back to his native Italy that October. He has since moved to the Bahamas.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star was arrested at the Beverly Hills Hotel in April 2015 and charged with public intoxication, trespassing and resisting an officer, Us Weekly confirmed.

Four months later, Kim was arrested for shoplifting from a Target store in San Fernando Valley, California. She was suspected of leaving the store with items costing $600. She spent one night in jail and was charged with a misdemeanor. Kim pleaded no contest for petty theft and no contest to resisting arrest. After being released on bail, Kim was hospitalized and later entered rehab in 2016.

Us confirmed in December 2017 that Kim would avoid jail time after completing her required community service for her April 2015 arrest. She was on probation until September 2018.

Tinsley Mortimer

Tinsley was arrested in April 2016 prior to starring on The Real Housewives of New York City. She was charged in Palm Beach, Florida, with trespassing at the home of her ex-boyfriend Nico Fanjul, whom she previously alleged had been abusive during their relationship.

Tinsley explained in April 2017 that she was arrested after trying to retrieve her purse from Nico’s home. According to the reality star, she and Nico fought, and the police were called to the premises. While the charges were later dropped, Tinsley did spend a few hours in jail.

β€œI feel like after something like getting a mugshot and having it plastered all over every paper and all over the Internet, I felt like I hit rock bottom a little bit,” Tinsley told Bravo’s Daily Dish in April 2017. β€œSo I just felt like there was no hesitation to join the show. I was like, β€˜What can go wrong at this point in my life?’ I’ve been arrested. I was in jail for three hours, I think now this is fine. I think I can handle the Real Housewives.”

Luann de Lesseps

Luann was arrested in December 2017 and charged with battery, trespassing and disorderly intoxication in Palm Beach, Florida. She spent one night in jail β€” infamously telling the Bravo cameras, β€œI’ve been traveling, I’ve been to prison” β€” before her release. The Real Housewives of New York City alum accepted a plea deal in August 2018 after completing two rehab treatments.

UsΒ confirmed in May 2019 that Luann confessed to drinking after her second rehab stint after an alcohol test was conducted in April 2019 by a New York probation officer. When Luann declined the β€œopportunity to immediately enroll in outpatient treatment” because her relapse happened amid her Countess and Friends cabaret tour, a judge ordered her back to jail for violating her probation.

Luann agreed to a plea deal hours later, which included weekly phone sessions with her treating psychiatrist as well as monthly in-person sessions and keeping a β€œbreathalyzer monitoring device” with her. After accepting the new probation terms β€” which included taking an alcoholism medication prescribed by doctors β€” she was released from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star was arrested in July 2020 alongside 86 others after protesting Breonna Taylor’s death in Louisville. (Taylor was fatally shot earlier that year after police came into her home with a no-knock warrant and had the wrong address. She was 26.)

Williams was booked and held in jail with no bond. Williams was charged with felony intimidating a participant in a legal process, disorderly conduct in the second degree and criminal trespassing. The felony charge was later dropped and Williams didn’t serve jail time.

Williams was previously arrested in April 2014 when she turned herself in to the Fulton County Sheriff. At the time, she was booked and released on a simple battery misdemeanor charge after getting into a fight with Kenya Moore during season 6 of RHOA. She paid $2,000 bail in cash.

Jen Shah

Jen was arrested in March 2021 along with her assistant Stuart Smith for their alleged role in a nationwide telemarketing scheme. Jen and Stuart were booked on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star changed her plea in July 2022 from not guilty to guilty, which cut 20 years off of her maximum prison sentence. She was sentenced in January 2023 to six and half years in prison and five years of supervised release.

Jen’s prison sentence was reduced for a second time in January 2025. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate records, she is scheduled to be released in November 2026.

Karen Huger

Karen was involved in a March 2024 car accident that led to her being charged with a DUI and DWI negligently driving a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner endangering property, life, and person, as well as recklessly driving a vehicle. She was found guilty in December 2024 on all the charges except for reckless driving.

In February 2025, she was sentenced to one year in jail after initially facing two years behind bars since it wasn’t her first DUI offense. Karen’s official sentence is two years in jail with one year suspended, meaning she only has to serve one year.

Did Love Is Blind's Brittany Tease Which Season 8 Pairs Are Still Together?

Did Love Is Blind Brittany Drop Major Clue About Season 8 Successes

Many fans have speculated that Love Is Blind star Brittany Dodson subtly spoiled the results of the season 8 dating experiment.

β€œWho would’ve thought?! Can’t believe it’s been over a year! From the Big Apple to the Mini-Apple, y’all have made this journey so much more interesting,” Brittany, 35, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, February 23. β€œIn the words of my mama, β€˜You always doing something’ … and honestly, this something was worth it β€” for the most part, haha. Love y’all!”

Brittany, who was notably involved in a pod love triangle with Devin Buckley and Virginia Miller, uploaded a carousel of 20 photos post-show. In a group picture of members of the cast, eagle-eyed fans wondered if there was a telling sign that two couples are still together.

In one corner of the image, Mason Horacek wrapped his arms around Meg Fink as they beamed for the camera. The pair were involved in a love triangle with Madison Errichiello before all three left single. In a trailer for the Friday, February 28, batch of episodes, Mason, 33, and Meg, 31, were spotted holding hands while entering a cast party.

Why 'Love Is Blind' Season 8 Uses Real Music, Has Longer Pod Episodes

Moving further down Brittany’s aforementioned image, Taylor Haag was seen sitting on Daniel Hastings’ lap. The pair got engaged sight unseen in season 8 before alleged Instagram activity threatened to ruin their post-pod getaway to Honduras. Taylor, 32, was adamant that Daniel, 30, followed her account before the experiment and, thus, knew exactly what she looked like. He denied the claims and they swept any doubt under the rug.

Up until the finale, Taylor and Daniel’s romance has continued to go smoothly. Whether they make it down the aisle still remains to be seen in forthcoming episodes.

While it’s not known when Brittany’s photo was taken β€” she has not addressed the fan theories β€” there is another clue that it could be recent. Kylie Schuelke and Brian Sumption posed next to one another in the shot. They had also found love in the season 8 pods but weren’t shown in any of the episodes.

β€œFrom the pods to realityβ€”what a journey,” Kylie, 28, and Brian, 30, wrote in a joint Instagram post earlier this month. β€œGrateful for every moment, every lesson, and everyone I met along the way. Love Is Blindβ€”you were a wild, unforgettable ride.”

'Love Is Blind’ Couples Status Check: Who Is Still Together?

Love Is Blind was not able to follow all of the pairs who found a relationship during the experiment. They opted to focus on five engaged pairs β€” Daniel and Taylor, Devin and Virginia, Joey Leveille and Monica DanΓΊs, Dave Bettenburg and Lauren O’Brien, Ben Mezzenga and Sara Carton β€” and the two love triangles.

β€œI talked to Ben for 20 [or] 30-plus hours [in the pods]. You literally talk about everything under the sun. You talk about family, you talk about all your interests, your background,” Sara, 29, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this week about her experience. β€œI did talk about values, which is shown basically for every conversation that we had, which is fine. We just had good banter. We were able to make each other laugh so easily. And honestly, every time I walked into the room and I heard his voice, I instantly smiled and my heart felt warm. It just felt like, overall, a really great connection. I love that we were able to talk about everything.”

Love Is Blind is currently streaming on Netflix. New episodes drop weekly.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s experience in Hollywood wasn’t always filled with glitz and glamour.

Ever since she rose to fame as a child star in the 1996 movie Harriet the Spy, Trachtenberg had the opportunity to work on many projects including big TV shows like Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

While the actress may have experienced the joys of red carpets and premieres, she was also open about the pitfalls of fame.

Before her death was confirmed on February 26, 2025, Trachtenberg experienced social media trolls. At one point, she felt compelled to respond to users’ comments questioning her appearance in recent social media posts.

Michelle Trachtenberg Through the Years: Her Life and Career in Photos

β€œI’ve received several comments recently about my appearance,” she wrote via Instagram in January 2024. β€œI have never had plastic surgery. I am happy and healthy. Check yourself haters.”

Long before her death at the age of 39, Trachtenberg found herself reflecting on fame in Hollywood and sharing the ups and downs of growing up in the spotlight. Keep reading to see what she had to say about her public life:

Michelle Trachtenberg Was Bullied in School

After finding fame at a young age thanks to the 1996 film Harriet the Spy, Trachtenberg admitted that kids weren’t always kind in the classroom.

β€œBack in my day, all the kids had to write a bullsβ€” Valentine’s Day card to everyone in the class,” she wrote via Instagram in February 2020 when recalling her holiday memories. β€œI never got one on purpose, everyone got a valentine card. No one ever gave me one and they thought I didn’t need the attention. The kids and staff all laughed and thought everyone else should get one, being an actress since I was 3, apparently I didn’t need one. No one gave a thought I was helping my family pay bills. I was just the girl on the tv, it was just that their kid wasn’t on tv.”

Trachtenberg said she still has β€œscars from being thrown down stairs and slammed into lockers head first.”

β€œI write this to every child, teen, person out there who is bullied,” she continued. β€œYou are something. Do not put your value in someone else. Not letting them win, is your win.”

Trusting in Rosie O’Donnell

While filming Harriet the Spy, Trachtenberg found great comfort in her costar Rosie O’Donnell.

β€œI turned 10 years old on the first day of principal photography of Harriet the Spy. Rosie was my biggest supporter,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October 2021. β€œThere was a lot required of me. I’m extremely grateful for the experience.”

Long after filming wrapped, the pair remained in touch with Trachtenberg singing her praises over the years.

β€œ[Rosie] protected me so much,” she told ET. β€œI held her first baby, Parker, on set on Harriet.”

Between 2000 and 2003, Trachtenberg had the opportunity to play Dawn Summers β€” Buffy’s sister β€” on the hit series.

After the show wrapped, series creator Joss Whedon faced allegations of creating a hostile and toxic work environment. (He has since denied toxic behavior allegations made by Buffy and Angel cast members.)

β€œWhile I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,” Sarah Michelle Gellar wrote via Instagram in February 2021. β€œI stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out.”

After seeing Gellar’s post, Trachtenberg decided to share her costar’s message and thank her for speaking out.

β€œI am brave enough now as a 35 year old woman….To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behavior….very. Not. Appropriate. So now. People know,” she wrote via Instagram that same month. β€œThe last. Comment I will make on this. Was. There was a rule. Saying. He’s not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again.” (Whedon has never publicly commented on Trachtenberg’s allegation.)

Making Memories With the Stars

Up until her death, Trachtenberg was active on social media, sharing selfies and posting on Throwback Thursday or Flashback Friday.

In April 2023, the actress shared an unforgettable memory from the red carpet premiere of Inspector Gadget.

β€œLong hair don’t care! 13 year old me at the Inspector Gadget premiere with the awesome Matthew Broderick!!” she wrote via Instagram. β€œI turned 13 on the set of this movie. A wonderful experience. I still have the @betseyjohnson dress I’m wearing in my memory closet. πŸ’–πŸ’š @sarahjessicaparker #flashbackfriday.”

Another throwback memory was posted in October 2022 when Trachtenberg had the opportunity to try on Eartha Kitt’s wig from Harriet the Spy.

β€œI love hearing your comments how Harriet helped you go through hard times, or how Harriet inspired you to be a writer because she was so strong and stood up to bullies!” Trachtenberg wrote via Instagram. β€œFor everyone going through covid digital school right now, learn, laugh at the bullies, and read! Books are real πŸ““πŸ”ŽπŸ’› #throwback.”

Trump administration to cut 92% of USAID foreign aid contracts

26 February 2025 at 20:29

The Trump administration is cutting 92% in foreign assistance-related grants to save nearly $60 billion as part of budget cuts drive across all federal agencies, the State Department confirmed on Wednesday night.

The big picture: It plans to terminate nearly 10,000 contracts and grants given out by the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), per a Wednesday court filing from administration attorneys.

  • It's the administration's latest effort to cap U.S. spending abroad, after a federal judge this month ordered the administration to resume $1.9 billion in foreign aid payments β€” which the Supreme Court temporarily paused on Wednesday night.
  • The impacts of the freeze on aid have been felt by organizations across the globe, as has the upheaval USAID, despite Secretary of State Marco Rubio announcing waivers for "life-saving humanitarian assistance programs."

Driving the news: Nearly 5,800 USAID awards and another 4,100 from the State Department will be cut, the filing states.

  • Some 500 USAID awards and about 2,700 State Department ones will remain.
  • "USAID evaluated 6,200 multi-year awards with $58.2 billion in value remaining," a State Department spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Zoom in: The State Department conducted a 90-day review of foreign assistance at the State Department and USAID that saw it examine 9,100 grants valued at $15.9 billion, the Washington Free Beacon first reported.

  • "At the conclusion of a process led by USAID leadership, including tranches personally reviewed" by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the spokesperson said "nearly 5,800 awards with $54 billion in value remaining were identified for elimination as part of the America First agenda."

What we're watching: Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts granted a stay and requested aid groups that sued the administration respond by 12 noon Friday ET.

  • Meanwhile, the State Department and USAID is set to undergo a process in consultation with Congress to reform the way the U.S. delivers foreign assistance.

Supreme Court could lower bar for white workers to sue for racial bias

26 February 2025 at 14:03

The Supreme Court seemed receptive to a woman's argument Wednesday she was discriminated against at work because she is heterosexual.

Why it matters: A ruling that allows the woman, Marlean Ames, to pursue the claim would open the door for men, white people, and heterosexual people to sue for job discrimination in the future.

  • The court's receptivity to Ames' case comes as the Trump administration has purged DEI across the government, triggering legal fears for corporations, schools, and local governments across the country.
  • Ames' case also comes in the shadow of the court's 2023 ruling that overturned the use of affirmative action in college admissions.

What they're saying: The court's conservative supermajority and at least a few of the liberal justices seemed open to hearing the case.

  • "We are in radical agreement," Justice Neil M. Gorsuch said about the court's consensus that the same legal test should apply to all discrimination claims β€” including ones from straight, white, and male workers.

Zoom in: Ames was an employee at the Ohio Department of Youth Services who filed a job discrimination lawsuit in 2020 claiming that she was discriminated against in favor of gay co-workers.

  • In one instance, she claims that she was removed from her job as an administrator in favor of a younger gay man.
  • In another, she said she was unfairly passed over for a promotion in favor of a gay woman who was less qualified.

Context: Almost half of US appeals courts require that members of majority groups (heterosexual, in this case) claiming discrimination meet an additional burden of proof that their employer is an "unusual" case of discrimination against majorities in what's known as the "background circumstances standard."

  • Before Ames' suit went to trial, lower courts ruled against her, finding that she was unable to meet that standard. Ames argues that the standard is unconstitutional.
  • Conservative legal groups, the Biden administration, and the Trump administration have all supported Ames' argument.
  • Ashley Robertson, a lawyer for the Trump administration, said on Wednesday that the underlying appeals court's ruling was essentially, "Tell me your race, and I will tell you how much evidence you need to produce."

The other side: The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund argued in a friend-of-the-court brief in the case that different standards were appropriate for majority and minority groups because minorities are historically the target of discrimination.
